FilmBox by Photomyne for Negative User Reviews

It’s a shameThe developers clearly have some talent, but marketing and customer service isn’t among them. What are otherwise pretty good apps by photomyne are spoiled by their snotty responses and confusing messaging. I have paid subscriptions to two of their apps - FilmBox and SlideScan. They do a pretty good job of digitizing photos from negatives and slides. I’d like to use their cloud service, but apparently - from all I can gather from their short, snotty responses and referrals back to their faq (which does nothing to answer the questions) you must have a Photomyne Account to do that. And it appears that purchasing one or two photomyne apps and registering both with an email address via their in app purchase, does not constitute having a photomyne account. You *also* need to purchase their Photomyne photo scanning app in order to have access to the cloud storage. Three things are consistent throughout the Photomyne app experience - you can see this in the reviews of all of the Photomyne apps: 1. The apps core functions are well designed. 2. The cost to get the promoted functionality is obscured by the developers almost to the point of being a scam. They will deny this, and further obfuscate their intentions by saying “we clearly told you so” when in fact, nothing is clear. 3. The developers responses are rude and generally unhelpful. I’d give the apps a 4 star rating, the cost is plenty once you figure it out - so that part gets a 2 star rating, and their communications are so bad that overall this barely rates one star..Version: 2.3

DéceptionL’essai gratuit m’a permis de faire quelque photos très très floues. Ça ne donne pas envie de payer pour ça..Version: 2.9

Blurs the scansNot suitable for serious work. Good for quick scans but that doesn’t justify the price of $62..Version: 3.4

Unclear paymentI was excited about this app then before i know its taken a $30 payment I’m now trying to cancel and pretty disappointed that it was unclear about 2 year subscription.Version: 2.3

Payment plan periodI would be interested in purchasing this app to capture some old negatives but I don’t need it for 2 years at such a high price. Could you please consider offering plans for shorter periods eg 6 months or 1 year at a reduced price. This would make it much more affordable for most people and I would certainly buy it then..Version: 2.4

A message to the developerOk then. I’ll brace myself for your response. Adobe Creative Cloud costs £8.99 per month. For that you get Lightroom, Photoshop, 1TB of cloud storage and other software. This costs £5.99. 2 thirds of the just for one piece of software that does just on job!!! How the heck do you honestly justify this!!! Right I’ve strapped myself in. Now go for it!!!.Version: 2.1

Misleading..A one-time-payment has always meant, you pay for the app outright, and then you own a license for that copy. However and according to this developer you pay for it outright, £29! and then AGAIN in 2 years time! How is this a one-time-payment? This is a subscription model.. period! It is NOT down to the customer to support the business model of the developer, especially when the app itself is not using any 3rd party services that would otherwise have on-going costs to the developer. I’m sick and tired of developers ripping is off with this type of wording and subscription models that are not warranted. Moreover, if the image storage is 3rd party and is the developers on-going costs, then surely the customer should have the choice to opt out of this, drastically reducing the costs to the customer? After all, I’d much rather have my work stored on my own servers (or ones I use) than servers I’ve not used before!.Version: 2.4

Low qualityQuality is really low compared to what the ads show you. Followed instructions exactly. Held the film 2-5CM away. was just so blurry.Version: 3.5

Not real picture after scanningThe quality of the photo after being scanned looks like a painting, not as real as advertised on the video..Version: 2.4

Yeah, nahOne of the worst user interfaces I have seen to scan a negative you have to click the button to add photos. Then you have to click through four screens EVERYTIME you want to scan a slide. It’s ok if you just leave it in scan mode to quickly determine what the content of a negative is before you scan it on a proper scanner.Version: 3.3

Works but quality is trashGarbage quality scans. I highly suggest anyone who wants to scan negatives a proper scanner. They would look 1000x better than this app. You’re getting 2 megapixel scan when you could get 30..Version: 3.3

Three day free trial, my a*#Three day trial blocked me within the first 10 photos ( half an hour at best). Unless I payed their $60 fee. Couldn’t save, upload or take any shots unless $$$$ . Could be an ok app once you pay a yearly fee but how many negatives or slides do people upload per day. I only wanted to do a few. In the end I got nothing..Version: 3.2

Too Basic for meI found this app way too basic for me. Too time consuming for not great results. If you have a couple of negs to scan and don’t mind the quality then try it out for sure. But for me, with a mountain of family slides and negatives to scan it just won’t cut it. I also had an issue with my subscription which wasn’t resolved and has resulted in my paying for a year’s subscription I just won’t use. Customer service just said ‘take it up with the app store’…..Version: 3.6

Not worth the priceTerrible quality. Colours are completely wrong. False advertising to say the least. Should be a free trial, even just one scan worth. But they’ve got my money, so why would they care to fix the issue?.Version: 3.0

Rip off appDon’t bother ask you for money right away.Version: 3.8

Great Idea but Didn’t workSorry guys, as great as the apps are in theory, no matter what I did just the pixilation just wouldn’t stop, tried every tip i seen on the reviews, regardless how far away etc i was very grainy and pixeled images. Will purchase a proper scanner to do my photos as need good quality to print them for scrapbooking etc.Version: 2.9

Absolutely HorrendousWell. I had hoped this would help me digitize my old film from high school. The app is horrible. There is no other way to say it. The FREE app from Kodak is far superior to this. I don’t know if it was their first attempt, but it went horribly wrong somewhere. Not even sure HOW it got released! I tried it two ways with the same bad results. I tried the suggested screen method, and I used the little cardboard “mobile film scanner” from Kodak. Color casts abound. Skin tones were awful. I even tried using a professional light box (remember them?). Sam results. Big disappointment, especially knowing how well their Photomyme app performs. I think they got ahead of themselves. It might do ok with black and white, but the free Kodak app work well, and it’s not $6 per month. And, fwiw, subscription software should be illegal. If I don’t need server services. Why do I need to pay for them?? We left Adobe and went to Affinity over that crap. And we loved the switch. Just putting it out there!.Version: 2.0

Wouldn’t recommendColours are horrible and pictures not clear when enlarged. Overall poor quality..Version: 3.9

UselessIt’s not users friendly,I have follow all steps which you mention then also photos colours combinations is so bad and it’s looks like very dull ,I don’t want to waste my money ,kindly disconnect me and refund my money.Version: 2.1

Quality appalling, scanning process inadequateAfter watching the promo video, I was very impressed with the apparent ease of the process and the excellent scan quality. Frankly both are appalling. For the former, it is far to fiddly. I have tried to use various techniques to keep distances from backlight consistent, keeping negatives flat, etc. None have worked. The resultant quality versus original prints is atrocious and no amount of post scanning manipulation would render them anywhere as good as original. Very, very disappointed and angry after paying so much. Simply put, advertising doesn’t. Represent reality. I would not recommend..Version: 2.4

Terrible app.Not worth the time and effort in downloaded. Terrible quality. Better off buying a negative scanner to get better results! I don’t recommend, not even the three day trial!.Version: 2.1

Bad recognition software and nothing is freeEverything requires a purchase to actually you. You can’t save or send your scans without buying the subscription, and they’ll also watermark your photos if you try to take a screen shot. The photo cropping and recognition is pretty bad, so you have to go through manually and so it all yourself. Very pixilated scans..Version: 2.4

Didn’t workJust simply didn’t work it wouldn’t let me in the app just kept making to the tutorial over and over again it’s a good idea tho.Version: 1.0

Not good enough to spend money onI was curious to see if my new phone camera and a good app could combine to offer a more convenient way of scanning old negs. Previously, I’d used a 12 year old scanner (mid price) which was heavy, noisy and took a bit of setting up. It quickly became very clear that even with the best adherence to the instructions, the best quality you will get is no more than 10% of a flatbed. The quality of the images is so poor, it just not worth having them unless you have no other option. From what I’ve already discovered, there are other free apps so paying anything for this one doesn’t make any sense to me..Version: 2.3

A useful ToolA little tricky to use as the quality of the end result relies on the steadiness of both hands. The voice command is a great tool to achieve this but it seems to need refreshing after two or three takes which is frustrating when you are all set up to say “go” and it fails to work. So back to the beginning, refresh voice command, set up to take the shot and go. I’ve tried a tripod and trying to figure out a way to have the slide held 2” from the screen that doesn’t involve a shaky hand. Open to suggestions..Version: 2.4

ONLY $5.99/monthHi there! I came across this app and thought it was too good to be true. I wasted my time DL-ing the app and then wasted more time to watch their intro, and then come to see “try 3 days free then $5.99/month”, don’t waste your time DL-ing this app if you’re NOT gonna pay to use this feature. With $5.99 I can just go get my pictures develop at the store and the pictures quality are probably 1000% better. I was a little disappointed that I cannot try it free for the first time, to see if I really liked the quality of the picture. Imagine taking a picture on your computer monitor screen, the picture is distorted or blurry, or just bad quality. I would not recommend this app, and oh yeah I deleted the APP in a split of a second..Version: 2.0

Very poor qualityMight be fine for a quick view of old negatives but the resolution is very poor - it doesn’t come close to a proper negative to digital converter and I wouldn’t bother subscribing. I know the developers talk of 2mb quality photos but (a) that’s not great and (b) I suspect to get that you have to be in a dark room with rock steady hands..Version: 2.4

Expensive!I loved the app so I got the colours feature. And bought the subscription. I added the slide app and now have been charged over 7.09 Canadian. It didn’t say I would be charged. On top of that the slides didn’t work. The live aspect maybe that was where the extra video feed came in. I was going to give this a rating of 5, but the fees should be clear so you aren’t being charged with extras you don’t want..Version: 3.1

Not good.I looked at the feedback the developer gave others to make sure I was using the app properly, but it still did not work well. I figured it wouldn't work well, it seemed too good too be true. Scanning is very tedious at home, so I thought it was worth a shot. Considering this is a monthly paid subscription it definitely doesn't work well. My worst amateur flat bed scans are 1000x better than these photos. I would give this app a better review if it was free or one time fee of a dollar. It wouldn't produce useable results, but it could be used for a simple preview if a back light is not available. I could also see a free option be useful for someone who quickly wants to show their older family members some kind of image of their old negatives, but I'd never post or show any of the images I got from the app. The advertisement video is very misleading..Version: 1.0

Can’t use it - has a quick start demo then won’t let you do anything else dodgy afCan’t use it - has a quick start demo then won’t let you do anything else dodgy af.Version: 1.0

Terrible app. What a waste of $40!Don’t waste your money. Followed all instructions and photos are blurry, colors are horrible and lines everywhere. I want my money back.Version: 2.9

Automatic cropping is terribleWe found a treasure of family negatives - relatives that died long before we were born. We found this app and it’s amazing - except the auto crop feature is bizarre. Every single time it crops out all the faces - all you get is an elbow or a belt buckle. You can go recrop manually but what a waste of time. Why have this feature at all? I know how to crop photos - leave it to me to decide what to keep and what to cut. The AI does a terrible job..Version: 3.8

Not what is advertised and have to pay first for 1 yearI couldn’t try it without purchasing a year first and when I did, it was TERRIBLE quality. Have sent three messages to customer service and nothing. Scam not scan…Don’t waste your money like I did..Version: 3.0

Works fine-ishWanna be nagged by “helpful” pop ups every time you so much as think about using the app? Want it to arbitrarily decide to crop a photo without your input? Want an app that’s pushier than a car salesman at the end of the month? Then here you go! It works fine most of the time, but I’m the three days I’ve been trying to evaluate it, I’ve spent more time being nagged to buy or click out of “helpful” instructional popups than I have actually getting any meaningful results. If you plan to immediately buy, it’s probably less baggy about that (but don’t forget the ads about all the stuff you can buy to go along with the app; gotta have those!).Version: 3.6

Scanning negativesIt is a user friendly app that allows scanning of negatives, both colour and black & white, with ease. Conversion of negative to positive is swift. Unfortunately, the resolution is poor, compared to the original negative and as a result even slight enlargement caused pixelation. An area to be developed by the tech people!.Version: 2.1

No free trialA free trial is when you try before you buy Having to give iTunes payment details prior to trying is nothing more than the usual parasitical ploy of sucking money from people via monthly auto debit long after they’ve forgotten they paid for it or until they go into subscriptions and stop it.Version: 1.0

UnusableHow this developer has the cheek to have a expensive subscription model for this app is unfathomable. 95% of the time it never finds the light source- just continually searches. If you do get lucky, it then over crops a 35mm neg to a square format. Magic? I think not.... UPDATE: Stock answer to mine and all criticisms of the app from the developer, “Reach out to support” Why? Look at all the reviews! It’s too expensive and actually either fails to work or creates badly cropped images of poor quality. They only thing I’m reaching for is the delete button.....Version: 2.1

Doesn’t work. Money grabDownloaded this app, scanned negative, guess what! It saved as a negative. Searched the F&Q looked in the support pages. Nothing. Don’t bother..Version: 2.1

Not worth the moneyI followed the directions, thought I was following them wrong so went back to trouble shoot. Spent over an hour adjusting how I was holding the phone, making sure it was the correct distance from the backlight and the camera. Put my phone on a tripod so I wouldn’t shake it, made sure the photos were 2 inches from the back light and still everything was grainy, extremely washed out, even with adjusting the backlight, and just super low resolution. Took my negatives to my scanner and found a website that reverse the colors for free and now I have hi res pics. Sorry this app was a great idea but it’s just not there yet..Version: 2.1

Scam warningThe three free days here is a nonsense - once you give your credit card details there is no way of cancelling this , i am going to have to cancel my credit card !!!! All over 9.95 - this is nuts - do not touch this product with a barge pole.Version: 2.1

Lots of issuesIf you have a great old b/w film negative this can work well. Negatives from the 70s and 80s produce such poor quality they are completely unusable. Also, unless you have perfectly preserved (and totally flat) 35 mm negatives the cropping tool is both random and cannot be overridden, so “scans” come out with half the photo missing and or incredibly warped. I am a professional designer and have worked on computers and scanning photos, negatives, slides, etc. for decades so I know what I’m doing more than the average Joe. Save yourself some headache and heartache and find a better option..Version: 2.9

PixelatedFairly disappointed, I have the Photo scanning app and love it, but when I followed all their instructions the photos created from the negatives remain pixelated..Version: 2.6

Limited access don’t buyI paid in my opinion a lot if money for this app. Now I can no monger access it as it’s asking me to renew! I understood I was paying £30 for unlimited access with options for in app purchases, but no, just another stealth dishonest app! Plus the quality is rubbish!.Version: 3.6

Difficult to find all premium optionsWhy do you only advertise the $30 price?? I came here to write a bad review because there were no other payment options, and had to find out about the monthly option from the reviews? Just bad marketing, honestly. Features are fantastic especially for how easy they are to use (only with premium). I recommend the $6/mo to start unless you’ll be using the app consistently for 2 years. Bummer they don’t have an in between. I wish the auto crop feature was a little better considering I don’t have a single negative film that has holes. I’m scanning photos from 1933, not the ‘90s. I’m considering drawing strips of fake holes to place next to the photos so I’m not spending a full minute to hand crop each photo after scanning..Version: 2.4

Doesn’t workMost expensive app I’ve bought and it doesn’t work. Photos are washed out and pixelated despite trying multiple different ways. Save your $$$ as this app is a scam..Version: 2.4

Honestly terrible. This app is quite awful to say the least. The so called “auto cropping” feature only seemed to work once out of my several dozen tries. The colours are supremely off compared to scans I have done with the exact same negatives using even amateur equipment, which for me is the biggest issue. Also the scans from the app seem as though they are altered to be more grainy and have more noise in the images than there should be, almost like those vintage Super 8 emulator apps. Even just taking a photo and reversing the negative in photoshop myself is significantly better and only takes marginally more time and effort. Would not recommend unless you don’t have any other options to scan negatives. edit: After receiving a response from the developer with their typical “negative has to be two inches from computer screen and the camera needs to see the side holes” response that every review gets, I have a bit more to say. It isn’t a problem with the distance from the backlight or the framing of the negative. I read the instructions before trying to scan my negatives and when I had poor results I read the reviews. Holding the negative the supposed proper distance, or closer or further, has little to no effect on the grainy results and even less on the washed out and dull colours. Upon further consideration, would give zero stars to the app if I could, and negative stars to the copied and pasted response nearly every review gets from the developer..Version: 1.0

Only a trial appThis seems like a pretty good app except I couldn’t scan more than about 10 negatives before I was refused access to the app until I had “upgraded for unlimited scanning.” for $37.99 a year. I didn’t have time to fully explore the app so I’m undecided at this point. I also have quite a few old negatives that don’t have the film sprocket holes so it doesn’t work very well with them..Version: 3.4

PhotomymeNot the best app fir the money I excepted better. I am disappointed I paid for a year. Doesn’t work as it says. Won’t work on slot of pictures.Version: 3.1

Absolutely not worth paying the shocking sum of $40.Buy a flatbed scanner, yes it is five times the price if you pay for unlimited use of the app, but the images out of this app at best are a low quality 2 megapixel image that is not even good enough for Instagram which already absolutely crushes photos. This app would be overpriced if it was a one time payment of $5.99. But they expect to charge you that amount every month. Most people I know who need to scan film, either old family photos or photos they are actively are taking will have enough film to justify spending the money on a real scanner. A flatbed scanner pays for itself after only 20 photos or so compared to having them scanned by a lab. DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THIS APP..Version: 2.1

Does the job but?Worked fine, However you photo’s are only stored for the duration of your first purchase then it expires and you have to pay again to reactivate for another period. Bit of a rip off really. Not happy. When first purchased it should be for a lifetime. Will not be renewing..Version: 3.8

Don’t bother subscribingI’ve followed all the steps for the backlight as recommended & the quality of the pics are no way near as good as the ads say! Also, I‘ve subscribed & the app has locked me out of my own subscription by not allowing me to scan more than 11 negatives even though I have been charged!! I’ve rebooted my phone & still the same issue - will not let me scan more than 11 negatives & I’ve also tried to delete the free 3 day subscription as well ... & still nothing! **UPDATE** Have been advised to email the support team via email. Been there done that nearly 3 weeks ago ... no response to date. As mentioned prior, don’t bother subscribing - it’s not worth it. Ohhh ... & I’ve been charged for an app that doesn’t even work. Figure that one out!!.Version: 2.1

Very grainySorry was disappointed as result was very grainy and Nat at all what I wanted. Might be because of free/trial version but not wanting to pay at this time due to examply.Version: 2.0

Total rip off - 100% con - don’t buy!!DONT BUY All this rubbish does is tell you to open a white page on a separate computer then hold your negative over the computer screen so it acts as a backlight then you have to capture the negative you are holding over the white screen with this app which just uses your camera. Not worth the outrageous price. Unfortunately my mum got this without realizing it was a rip off designed to take advantage of people, it’s real value would be free with no ads or at a push 10p but I’d feel guilty charging that too. The developers and apple should be ashamed of this on their store. There are professional negative scanners that work on usb for less than this that would do a good job, the results with this even if done well are appalling. Take it off the App Store. DONT BUY.Version: 2.3

Truly dreadful workflowSerious, has the designer ever scanned a pic? Here is what is wantedp: 1. Scan pic 2. IMMEDIATELY preview pic at full screen size and if not ok, delete (or save if OK) there and then and straight back to the scan window NOT disappear into the corner forcing you to navigate away from the scanner, use a menu to delete which then goes to the next saved pic rather than back to the scanner. 3. Rinse repeat until ready to view. 4. Export to Photos app (not google). And absolutely no nagging about colourising. And not ripping us off for more cash just to bin announcements. Subbed for a month. There won't be a second. Oh and no "You forgot a backlight" EVERY SINGLE TIME (I didn't). Great idea so badly implemented it beggars belief..Version: 3.5

Waaaay too expensive !The quality is very low, but the app works fine. Fun to get a quick look at negs you haven’t printed yet. It does some weird cropping and takes a few goes to get the right framing. The price is just way too high for both the subscription and the one off payment. They should take the price down I’m sure more ppl would use it permanently. There are free competitive apps so I’m not gonna pay this crazy price..Version: 2.1

Can’t try it at allI’m not one to sign up to test an app and risk getting spammed. So you get a one star review because you wasted my time..Version: 3.5

UselessPoor quality, can’t even save a photo if u don’t sign up It was advertised as a free app.Version: 3.1

Not badTook a while to get best distance and orientation. Still sometimes truncates negatives. Tedious work..Version: 3.5

Shareholder greed has broken a good thingApples insatiable appetite for profit has led companies down this ridiculous subscription route. I don’t care if something works or not, I refuse to participate in death by a thousand cuts.Version: 2.1

Very disappointedI was so looking forward to scanning and saving all my 35mm negatives, but either I’m doing something wrong or the app operates in the reverse of what I was hoping to enjoy. I scanned Color negatives and during the process the photo scans as color for an instant but then goes straight to black and white! Why??.Version: 2.1

SadUPDATE....After receiving a response it said I could contact a developer. I sent an email With my comment & a copy of response. All I got in return was the identical comment as the first time. The support system is totally useless! I downloaded this app today to do 6 negatives. I had to try each a couple times. After approximately 12 scans it would not let me scan any more without upgrading, even though it said free for 3 days. It was less than 3 hours! The scans I did were not that great even following the directions. Not happy with the app & not worth $5.99 a month. I have deleted app from phone & definitely will not be using it again..Version: 2.1

Not worth a monthly subscriptionThis is a great little app but I feel the low quality from cameras phone isn’t worth a £5.99 a month subscription! These subscription models are a popular business model these days but most are not worth it unless your using them from a professional point of view, a one off purchase would be worth paying for in my opinion. You would get better quality from a flat bed film scanner, however the convenience of this app makes it great I would suggest if you are using your iPad as the white backlight lay some tracing paper on the screen then lay the negative on top that way you won’t get a pixelated image, again great app wrong pricing model!.Version: 1.0

Requires login prior to any actionRequiring a login is bad enough. Requiring it before we can do *anything* is an instant deletion..Version: 2.8

Far too expensiveCould be a great app, looks ok but only able to try a limited number before it wants a high subscription price of nearly £30 a year or £8 a month. Fine if you have hundreds to do but I’d like me you have just found a few old negatives and wanting to keep them this is very high. I’ve scanned a few but can’t see what quality is like saved as it won’t let me save them without subscribing..Version: 3.3

Gouging paying customersI can’t believe I have just paid $62 for a phone app and immediately bombarded ads for add ons and then An option to remove them for an extra $1.62. What a gouge, shame on you..Version: 3.5

Don’t waist your timeDon’t waist your time if you want to scan more than 5 photos. The app work pretty well. It’s Easy to use and definitely scans the pictures well. I was surprised how well it worked, and I think it’s so cool that this app exists. However, it’s definitely not worth the $30 which is what you have to pay every year if you don’t want to be able to scan only about 10 photos then i will make you pay. And the most ridiculous part is you can’t even save YOUR OWN pictures unless you pay. And, if you try to screenshot a picture it will watermark all your pictures and make to to where you can’t remove the watermark!.Version: 2.9

GoodDoes what it says.Version: 2.8

When it works, it’s great! Way too many glitches…Sometimes it scans and crops just right, but about 70% of the time, it will scan an entire negative and then when it crops it, it only gives you a small strip of the picture. I have had to rescan my grandma’s high school graduation photo about 30 times, rotating and flipping the negative and moving my phone to different angles only to have 30 pictures of just her feet and some grass. Very, very frustrating. This has been happening more and more often lately..Version: 2.9

Fun to ID old negs, but…..Like I said, it’s fun to identify old negatives, but very difficult to keep the negatives flat and everything from not moving even when you buy the stuff that they constantly hawk to you. On top of that and the worst thing for me is that I find it very cumbersome and difficult to actually load these images to my computer. So far the only thing I can figure out is I have to email it to myself and then download it from there each image. Too bad I was pretty excited about it when I first found it..Version: 3.10

UselessUseless app, takes picture of negative, shows it’s negative and then doesn’t transform it into a usable picture, no setting/options to do it either. Don’t waste your time or money on this..Version: 2.6

Excellent app, way too expensive! This app is great. However, having taken about 10 pics, it locked itself & rendered itself unusable unless I pay £6 per month. Now, I will simply delete the app & they make no money. If the app was say £3, I would pay & the developers would make some money. Unfortunately, as with all thes ‘in-app purchase’ apps, the developers get greedy & charge way too much for an app you’ll probably use about 10 times a year. It’s a poor business model that prices itself out of the market before the app has even proved itself. Very sad.Version: 2.1

Very poor qualityI have used your app with the light of a computer screen and the photos come out grainy, if at all. I have worked with natural light with no improvement. My negatives have been stored in a safe so are still in perfect condition. Unless you can advise and alternative way of using your app I will be discontinuing my registration.Version: 2.1

Need more controlI have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, this app does not allow me to choose which lens I am using. It appears the app is using the ultra wide lens. I have a moment micro lens which I can only attach to the wide or telephoto lens and I can’t use it because the app doesn’t give me control over lens. Also the sharping tool over sharpens to the point where the image/person looks cartoonish. Lastly the app seems to auto crop my images even though I have turned off the auto crop feature, I have to go in and un-crop the image. If the developers correct these features, I’m willing to give it five star review..Version: 3.4

Not as advertisedAs a professional film film photographer with years of film scanning experiences. I was really excited to try this app. It looked super fun and user friendly. The quality of the images is no where near what the adds show or what the tutorial showed. The camera doesn’t focus well, there a lot of motion blur with the handheld phone and the color is super muddy. I spent some time with it and really tried not make it work by troubleshooting to the best of my ability. I couldn’t get any images to scan well or look anything like what this app says it’s capable of. Not impressed, pretty disappointed, I want my money back..Version: 1.0

Get (for free)Why do these apps have the ‘get’ option making out its free when they’re not? I would rather it state the price in the details, saving me downloading it to find out I have to pay. I have a few old negatives to try, so I don’t need to use it ongoing and it only allows you to take a few photos and then you have to buy the app for £35 or more. Be honest, put the price on the app!.Version: 3.1

DisappointedI was initially impressed with how well the app scans in most negatives HOWEVER I am SO unimpressed with the reliability of 1) the scans actually saving, and 2) them actually showing up in FilmBox so I can download them. I’m afraid to scan in more than 10 negatives without checking to see if they’re going to save and then be downloadable. I have had to rescan over 50% of the negatives and some of them I’ve had to rescan more than once. It’s a very frustrating process. It might be okay if you didn’t have a lot of negative to do, but if you do, at this point I couldn’t recommend you use this app..Version: 3.8

So many memoriesI’m happy to finally get rid of my massive box of negatives and have the pictures. You do need a steady hand..Version: 2.5

Good app but...This app works and is useful, however holding your iPhone with one hand and negative with the other is exhausting and tiring!.Version: 2.1

Warnings/notificationsThe instructions/warnings/etc within the app while trying to take a picture are beyond frustrating. I don’t need a notification about finding a white backlight every time I want to take a picture. It’s unnecessary if I’ve already successfully completed. The same with the stupid notification about holding the film strip close: yeah, got it the first second twentieth time you told me. App not worth the $40..Version: 2.9

FilmBoxWorks well for showing negatives but is really lacking in the sharing of same. Absolutely not as easy as they say it is which is frustrating as hell. Could not transfer to my computer for printing or sharing or even editing. Thought they were saved to my computer and deleted them from my phone only to find them unavailable on my computer. A real waste of time and money..Version: 3.1

Subscription 👎👎👎👎When will these companies realize that no one wants to rent software! Update after the maker of this app reached out to me, it seems that not only do they not understand that people do not want to rent software, they contacted me to inform me that in the description of the app that it says “ In order to have access to all the features the app has to offer, you would need to subscribe”. Apparently they think that I can’t read and comprehend the English language, when it’s quite clear that they they may have wanted to pay more attention in kindergarten when they were teaching reading..Version: 2.9

Works pretty wellWorks well, good usability. No lifetime purchase option is a problem. If I could spend 40-60$ CAD and use the app indefinitely this would be a 5 star review..Version: 3.6

Excited … then not so excitedThe App demonstration looked great and the quality of the images scanned to the negative brilliant. I tried and each scan. They were so blurred or so faded that you had to squint to try and make out what you were seeing. Absolute rubbish of an app.Version: 2.9

BojiAlanOK gang I’ve used it for about two months. Paid the fee to get a monthly usage – – the consistent pop ups reminding me for $.99 a month I can no longer have pop-ups – – the somewhat clunky ability to save your photos – – purchase the overhead arm, hanging photo, shoot device for 1499 on sale – – waste of money– – probably had 200 photos to do. I’ve now given up after about 20 to 25 and taking it to a professional studio to have done – – been a newspaper photographer for 40 years. biggest problem continue to get random shadows no matter how I take photos. I’ve got four $3000 light tables soft back lighting all the drills and my phone 13 pro just won’t pull it off so just a heads up I guess it was worth 25 bucks. I’ll bill my client such as life..Version: 3.5

No need for this app. This app is an expensive scam. You can get better results using your normal phone app, and converting negative images into positives using any number of free apps for iPhone or PC. Eg for windows irfanview. Of course with photo shop type editors you can tweak and correct colors etc to perfection..Version: 2.4

Bad qualityIt didn’t recognise the backlight despite it being from its own website, and all the photos came out with low saturation and were incredibly blurry and grainy when the actual prints are high quality. Wasn’t expecting perfection but expected better than this.Version: 2.1

QuestionIs that 39.99 a one time fee?.Version: 3.4

Works well but not worth a subscriptionThe app is pretty straight forward to use and it does a good job auto cropping the picture. It is hard to find a good backlight source where you don’t pic up other objects with glare. My biggest complaint is that you have to be on subscription to use it. I will never buy an app on subscription unless it is per year. This app has no reason to be on a monthly subscription, other than to take money from people that forget to unsubscribe. There is no update content or development that happens beyond regular updates for iOS system updates. I would gladly pay a set price for this. $5-10$ is fair, in my opinion. Reach out to me developers if you want to make a one time sale. It would improve your rating. 👍🏻.Version: 1.0

Backlight reflects phone into pic/negativeNo matter the lighting I use, the backlight reflects the phone camera into the negative. I’ve used multiple different angles, and moved negative away from backlight, doing everything as recommended with lighting and can’t get it completely gone. If I move negative or camera so that you don’t see it, the quality deteriorates tremendously. I just updated the app after scanning negatives and now it keeps telling me I forgot a backlight and I am using the same backlight from your website I was before the updates. Very frustrated with this. Don’t waste your money like I did..Version: 3.5

DisappointedDespite the rather snarky responses to other negative reviews, there is no way to get high quality photos with this app. I have used the app-provided backlight source, followed the instructions given to a T, and still ended up with grainy, low-resolution photos with colour different to the actual prints themselves. Do not recommend..Version: 2.3

No goodThey won’t let you download or save a test pic unless you sign up and pay.Version: 3.5
