Spirit Island for Positive User Reviews

Presence Bug?I am playing as Shadows Flicker Like Flame. I have 1 presence in a Sand Zone. I am trying to target the zone with Quicken the Earth’s Struggles which has a range of 0. The zone does not light up as targetable, but all other zones I have presence in do light up (as well as zones with Dahan) Very confused - possible bug? Also cannot use my inherent ability in that same sand zone. Starting to think the game doesn’t realize I actually have presence there in that zone..Version: 1.5.4

Great port of a great game.Makes Spirit Island and easy solo game, and a great way to practice for group games..Version: 1.4.6

Great adaptationWorks nicely on phones..Version: 1.4

A great gameI love spirit island and this is great game. I haven’t run into any bugs like I see in other reviews and it can be a bit overwhelming learning all the rules, but once you get the basics it is a very multi layered game that I think any tactic player would enjoy. I do hope multiplayer is in the works for the future though..Version: 1.4.3

Finally, a true solo SI experience!I have never played this board game but heard they were porting this into a solo digital app, so I got it as soon as I saw it pop up. Tutorial is fantastically smooth, and gives enough information at the right time so as to not overwhelm new players. I also like that they give some strategy reasoning in the tutorial as well. Sounds, UI and overall game flow is smooth and the gameplay is seriously fun. Thank you to the entire team for the work you all put into this!.Version: 1.2

Great adaptation PLEASE add multiplayerRuns great, looks beautiful and is an absolute blast to play. I know I could get so many many more people playing this if it had multiplayer functionality!.Version: 1.4.6

Great digital adaptationSpirit Island is easily my favorite co-op board game, and this is a great way to play solo without the setup and teardown and adds rule enforcement (digital versions are great to learn rule intricacies). Game plays very smoothly, and the UI is well designed. Even the base game prior to expansions has lots of variety and branch & claw and jagged earth will make that even better when released. The purchase model is great as well - free is enough to get the feet wet and understand the game basics prior to buying the full game. Late game with four spirits crowds the screen when lots of powers are played and could be nice to lay out the power card by spirit one at a time similar to the growth stage to make it easier to see the map, and multi-player would be a welcome addition..Version: 1.2

Great free gameExcellent game and more amazed that the starter game is free. I am just using this to learn the game because I already have the actual board game, it was just too hard for me to understand. this tutorial is perfect..Version: 1.3.1

Really great adaptation of a great board game!Excellently executed..Version: 1.3.2

Thank you!Yes, it is expensive, but thank you for making a great digital version of this game. I appreciate that this is a fairly niche game and you need to pay people’s salaries. Keep up the good work!.Version: 1.3.2

ImpeccableAnother impeccable port from Handelabra. Can’t wait for the expansion..Version: 1.2

Great implementation of a complex gameThe worst thing about Handleabra’s implementation of Spirit Island is it teaches you how you were paying the game wrong. For example, the Ocean spirit can’t push an invader into the sea during an event action. It’s not an easy game to learn on the phone, and reasonable on an iPad. That said, once you know the game you can play it dozens of times and still discover new tactics. Spirit island is a game that has both incredible inherent and emergent complexity. It can be hard, at first, to understand what’s going on and what to do. Then, once you do, you can see incredible possibilities and interactions. Great implementation of my favorite game of the past five years..Version: 1.5.4

Patch notes claim offline support is fixedChanging review to 5 stars now that offline support is fixed according to the recent patch notes. I haven’t tested yet, but exciting to see responsive devs..Version: 1.6.1

Great GameThis is a brilliant game. Very very deep with decisions. The rules are actually not that hard to learn, it’s the depth that is challenging to think through and play well. The game has a tutorial which is great. The free beginning is a nice touch and I’m glad I dove in and bought the whole pack. Never played this in tabletop version before but loving it on iOS. Unfortunately looks like one reviewer did the old classic “3 stars, I’ll come back and update my review once they add multiplayer”. Well they have added multiplayer, but no update from old mate. This game deserves more than 3 stars easy..Version: 1.5.4

The best way to get familiar with the gameSpirit Island is great. I love the theme, the mechanism, it’s all top notch. I find the game can be a little long with more players, but that could be the people I’m playing it with. The app is wonderful. I’ve bounced off a lot of app implementation of board games, but the user interface was easy enough for me to understand without having to go through a tutorial just to understand the layout. Fantastic work on development. I highly recommend this app as a good way to learn the game. The app corrected one of my rules errors I made that changed everything for me. I really enjoy choosing your spirit; the game shows not only the spirit board but the starting cards too. It makes it much easier get the gist of what the spirit is about. My only complaint is a lack multiplayer. I would love to play this game with my friends that are socially distancing or just live far way..Version: 1.4.6

Great free contentI haven’t purchased this game yet but I’ve played the physical. So far with just the free demo version I’ve been able to beat the 4 starter spirits solo. Nice implementation and nice you can turn off animations..Version: 1.4.6

Same Great Game Minor ProblemsVery polished and with just having recently added multiplayer to play with people online, I’m impressed. Have yet to run across a game breaking bug and the options are as endless as they are fun. The lack of a 5th star is simply do to the game not translating well to iPhone as opposed to IPad. They have come a long ways in this regard but, in specific, selecting which spirit you want to control while dual playing spirits single player is very cumbersome. Often times selecting the spirit board instead of passing growth or card choices back to the other spirit seems like an exercise in futility. In fact, when the selection does go about correctly on the first click I’m shocked. Other than that it’s a barrel of fun and replayability..Version: 1.5

Expensive but goodI see several people complaining that this app is expensive in the comments, and compared to what is now perceived to be the average app price it is. You also have to pay extra for Branch and Claw (the expansion), but the app is a faithful conversion of the board game and because the board game is so good this is great too. I have played this a lot, it takes away the admin of the board game allowing you to focus on the card play and this makes it a better experience. Playing solo 3 or 4 spirits becomes very doable and you great synergies between the spirits. The only caveat is when playing 3 or 4 spirits the screen runs out of real estate and the cards are too small when unplayed and too large when played. If you like the board game this a great buy..Version: 1.4.3

Amazing Port of an Amazing Board GameSpirit Island is one of my favourite solo and coop games out there, and Handelabra has done an incredible job making a perfect automated copy of it complete with cross-platform online multiplayer. It also features a sensible multiplayer dlc policy whereby to use Events and Tokens only the host needs Branch and Claw, and to play a Spirit in a multiplayer game you just need to personally own it. You can also safely ignore the reviews complaining about offline play, since that was due to a bug that recently got patched; you can absolutely play this game with all purchased content while offline..Version: 1.6.2
