✓ Just deleted gameI’ve probably spent around $400 on in-game purchases (gem packs) over two years of playing the game. I try not to spend on games, but sometimes it’s hard to resist and I justify it by having not spent anything on consoles or console games. That said, I track when I make in-game purchases and how much. Today, a purchase was billed against my account during a time that I wasn’t on my phone. (No, I don’t have kids or other devices with this game). I’ve since deleted the game. It was fun while it lasted..Version: 3.5.0

✓ Really tried to love itI love DQ and this game is great. However, I can see I play this less and less, the major pain is the artificially slowed UI, a lot of button pressing for meaningless steps, slow transition among UI, some daily routing caused 10 min in other games might cost you a hour here…… I do not know if it is the developer is not capable of doing his job or the PM is new to this industry. ✓ Your usual gotcha game (if not worse).So I’ve been playing the game very day on my lunch break and when I get home. I rather enjoy the tactical gameplay and the characters are actually charming all in their own way. You could even say this game has a Pokémon vibe, but with the DQ enemies. However I have to admit that this games micro-transaction are rather heavy starting off. The rate you earn gems (this games premium currency) feel rather greedy, especially when you compare this to one of Square Enix’s other games, FF Dissidia. In fact that’s the case for a lot of this games aspects. This game even includes the concept that your paid gems won’t give you the same rewards as earned gems. Then there’s the “Passport”, which is this games subscription. Usually we’re use to the aspect of mobile games slowing us down, and offering us experience and gold boosters to speed up the process. However this game took it a step further by legit making the game and animations slower, and then offering us the “Very Fast” option in its monthly subscription “Passport”. I actually enjoy a lot of aspects of this game including the sound track, gameplay, and even charming monsters, but if you’re looking for just a good FREE-TO-PLAY JRPG mobile game, try Square Enix’s other mobile game FF Dissidia, because that one is far more free to play than this one..Version: 1.0.0

✓ CASH GRAB!When Dragon Quest Tact released it was fun, the characters were likable and resembled their pst and present forms. It felt you were engaging in nostalgia. However after only being released for two months in the US it’s apparent that Square Enix does what Square Enix always does. It makes their players spend ridiculous amounts of money just to be competitive. Asking players to spend on average $50 a month. The drop rates for acquiring the top tier characters is completely against you. Working hard and grinding levels to build your squad is part of the enjoyment of this game. But those characters can’t get you past certain points unless you BUY the top tier. The opportunities to acquire top tier characters are limited to twenty one days, then oh here you go try again with a completely new character and start all over..Version: 1.1.0

✓ Great but why stamina?A very enjoyable gacha with cute graphics and a nice reroll system for your first ten monsters. Lots to do, and therein lies the problem. Stamina is needed for pretty much anything from levelling up, equipment upgrades and events to name but a few. This means to progress you will probably need to buy gems, or get left behind. Such a shame they did this, hence only 3 stars as I probably wont play anymore..Version: 1.0.0
✓ Gotcha!This game would be so much more playable without the energy system. It adds nothing to the experience and only serves to stand in your way, so that they can drip feed you just enough content to keep you engaged while never leaving you satisfied. Otherwise I’d say it’s pretty cute, but lacks substance. Edit, after only a week of daily playtime I have drained the game of all of it’s content. All that’s left for me to do is daily quests, equipment and skill upgrades all of which are incredibly tedious and unsatisfying. Sometimes an entire day’s worth of work is only enough to upgrade one attack. The tactics never require anything more than a basic rock paper scissors understanding of how the elements work, and if your party is even a little over leveled you can pretty much ignore strategy all together. It would be really nice if the game gave you more rewards for using a team that’s a little under leveled to encourage more tactical play, but there is never a good reason to use anything other than your strongest team, and the auto battle feature makes gameplay totally mindless..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Really poor gameThe game is so slow, can’t skip animations which take so long after every stage clear. I almost uninstalled before getting to 2.1 to try the free 3000 gem pull. Couldn’t even understand how to do that. The UX is terrible and unintuitive..Version: 1.0.0

✓ Fun tactics game ruined by micropaymentsThis could have been a fun strategy game if you’d just been allowed to pay like £4.99 for it. Instead it’s “free to play” but to get anywhere you need to pay for stamina to actually play, Paid Crystals (seriously they don’t even try to hide that they are rinsing your wallet) to level up, and tickets to unlock stronger heroes to win..Version: 1.0.0

✓ Horrible supportI love this game to the point that I played it hours and hours a day when it first launched. I recently changed phone and I wanted to play it again since I had more storage. When I went to load my game my backup data had been deleted. I tried contacting the support staff but in order to do that I have to have my numerical player I’d memorized along when numerous minute details of game play that no normal person would remember, just to send in a ticket for help. ✓ Rose colored nostalgiaThis is my first review on an app or game ever. I just wanted to say that I really really really tried to give this game a chance. I’m very fond of Dragon Quest having grown up with the series which is why this game leaves a rather notable sting. I desperately wanted to like this game as it has everything to love about Dragon Quest, minus the micro transactions, but the constant crashing of the app, sluggish response even with everything set to a minimum, and eventual pay wall to progress just got to much for me. I don’t mind an app to have micro transactions but when it becomes mandatory to actually play the game that kills any and all enjoyment for me right there. Any DQ game I get from now on will only be a port on my phone or a dedicated title on a console..Version: 1.0.0
✓ Very generous in the beginningDQ Tact was very addicting in the beginning. You get lots of level up materials, upgrade materials, etc. Once that’s over, the grind begins and the game becomes a chore to play. All you can do is progress the story to a certain point (before it becomes too hard) and play all the little side missions. Playing in the arena is tough as you may only be matched with people way above you. Their teams are like 4 S rank (level 100+) characters that new players likely do not have. You just get wiped out and it doesn’t rematch you to a lower level team. There’s no way to progress in some of the arenas. That being said, I still do enjoy playing from time to time. Log-in bonuses can be great, such as free scout tickets for S rank team members..Version: 2.7.1
✓ Shame on you Square Enix!!!I am so sick of these PTW games. This format is the reason these big game companies do not make any real games anymore. I was initially excited for this game because they made it look like it might be more like a real Dragon Quest experience. Sadly, I was wrong once again. Same old crap as always, stamina limits, pay to get characters, etc. This one is really devious about the PTW scheme as it seems like you are getting plenty of the currency needed for getting these items in the games “new launch event”. However, you will soon find out that the gems you get are different from the “paid” gems (which are not given without paying), which are the ones required to actually get anything. ✓ Good game butGame if decent, but the reward system is dumb, you claim rewards from missions then got to claim the rewards again from the present tab and have to confirm multiple times, and have to claim rewards after each fight as well. Why not just make the rewards from the fight go directly into the inventory, like the gold. To me that is the main down side to this game. That and load screen times are pretty long. And they need to add info for attacks like which attack is buffed by wis or agility so we know what weapon to equip and what to shoot for. Maybe even add way to remove spells or abilities not just change out the learned ability cause there are some ability that just seems useless. Potentially really great game just needs lots of work. ✓ Great game, annoying server disconnectionsVery fun gatcha game, that doesn’t require pay to win for enjoyment. Great for people who love the dragon quest genre. But I am having consistent, and annoying server timeouts after completing battles. Many of which are not acknowledged when I reconnect. Resulting in wasted stamina and battle rewards? I made it to Chapter 9 Stage 3 so, I’m not just someone who played for a few hours and is giving it an average review out of spite. The story has been pretty bland and generic so far. The Dragon Quest 1 event has been as well. The only redeeming thing to me is the Dragon Quest Monsters themselves. Their fun Toriyama designs and animations are not enough to keep me playing. ✓ Was impressed….untilThe opening of the game is great….classic Draqon quest just as I remember…but once you get through some pve and unlock the pvp arena….there is zero balance…..I go in with 8k cp after a pretty decent f2p run…only to be matched against 51k in my first match…39k in my 2nd, and 76k in my 3rd. ✓ Mediocre game horrible backup optionsI have played this game in the past and wanted to get back into it. I linked my account with my google account awhile back, but now I got a new phone and when trying to access my old account I get an error. “ A backup cannot be created. Backup save data for a different device is already associated with this account.” After researching this, I have to delete or do something on that old phone which I don’t have? Why? What kind of stupid and old/ antiquated way of logging in is this? I was going to give the game another shot, but I’m not starting over (especially when I payed a few into my last account) I shouldn’t have to go through so much trouble just to sign into my account!!!! ✓ Don’t buy gemsDecent game, even if it is a straight up reskin of other App Store games that I have tried, like Dungeon Boss with Dragon Quest graphics. However, I decided to go for an in app purchase and they trick you on how many paid gems you really get. There’s a distinction between paid and free gems in this game that I’ve never seen before, and if you purchase gems the bonus gems are considered free and any gems earned through the game are the same. In this way, they keep you from using the paid in game currency (gems) so that you can’t use them for the best items or the best monster draws such as guaranteed Rank S draws since they aren’t paid gems. The most whorish paid currency schemes I’ve ever seen in an App Store game and upon finding it out I immediately uninstalled. Don’t waste your time and money..Version: 1.0.3

✓ No multiplayer or real live service elementsTypically this would be fine but since it’s a mobile gacha game it just feels sort of off. Most would likely feel no reason to spend any money with nothing to compete for and it’s f2p. Typically in gacha games there are competitive modes and some sort of chat both of which motivate you to send a little to compete. I love dragon quest and gacha but it’s a bit boring with those elements missing and no exploration and real story like a real rpg. It’s missing the things that make either of those great. I think it’s greedy and does not honor a players time invested in to the game. There should just be “gems.” You can either earn them by investing time in the game or by buying them, but there should not different classes of gems. ✓ QoA and could be much better.Auto repeat for phone users!!!! Hatch man is a terrible ability, make leveling it increase accuracy instead of potency. The exp and gold to stamina ratio is terrible, either make codecs easier to acquire, or increase stage exp. Look up some FG3000 videos on how to improve this game, cause after the honeymoon phase(2weeks to a month), I don’t see anyone playing this except those that spent a fair bit of money. Plays like a mobile game from 2015....when games like genshin impact, and seven deadly sins exist. I don’t see this game being successful (as it currently stands) and lasting to much longer than a year, for the global players that is. Only reason it’s even on anyone’s radar is the name dragon quest and the company sqaurecenix, if a no name company produced a game like this, it would be dead on arrival. 2 stars.
