Ticket to Ride: The Board Game for Negative User Reviews

Nausea inducingGraphics movement is rough. No option to disable the constant zooming in/out or simplify the view. Board in general is difficult to view and play on with the over complicated colors and route highlights..Version: 1.0.11

BugsToo many bugs. Keeps kicking us out of the games.Version: 1.0.11

Just waitThis game will be good, but it freezes on me, boots me, or fails to load because it is new and there bugs to fix. Just wait and download it after some time for them to fix the game.Version: 1.0.12

Doesn’t work like old TTRMany glitches, too many graphics slow the game down. Maps from previous purchases did not transfer over. No ability to rejoin game after you leave when it glitches..Version: 1.0.11

Seems like a good game if I could play itGame crashes about 66% of the time when I try to play it, so I pretty much wasted $5 as of now..Version: 1.0.11

Terrible pricingIt’s 8 AUD to download the app, which is already a lot. Then when you enter only the USA and Europe map is available to you, and the Europe map costs 11 AUD. Overall would be spending 20 bucks for two maps with slow gameplay (no need to reinvent the wheel!) whereas the previous application had every map (bar Japan, Italy, the Old West, and the city maps) available to you for only $2 each..Version: 1.0.10

Regrettable Downgrade from a Beloved AppI am compelled to express my disappointment with the recent rebuild of the Ticket to Ride app. The original app, known for its stability and enjoyable gameplay, has unfortunately been overshadowed by a new version that fails to live up to its predecessor. The most disheartening aspect is the removal of expansions that loyal users had already purchased. To regain these expansions, users are now expected to pay an exorbitant sum of $35. This not only undermines the value offered by the original app but also disregards the investment of long-standing players. In terms of usability, the new version is a step back. The interface, though visually appealing, is less user-friendly and intuitive, making the game more difficult to navigate and enjoy. This shift towards a flashy yet less functional design is a major drawback. A critical point to note is that while the old app is still operational for existing users, its online multiplayer functionality, a vital component of the game, has been disabled. This effectively diminishes the playability and enjoyment of the app for those who preferred the original version. In conclusion, this update has significantly detracted from the Ticket to Ride experience. It’s disconcerting to witness a well-loved game lose its essence and playability. As an avid player, I hope for a return to the quality and customer consideration that once made this app a favorite..Version: 1.0.12

Suggestions for improvementThe map graphics may look pretty, but the important game information is obscured by the aesthetics. it is difficult to see the train cars to see which routes are taken. Difficult to see which destinations are in my hand of tickets. please simplify and clarify the graphics. good maps in general, show only what is necessary in a simple way. this is extra important on a small phone screen. The swooping animations are distracting and add little value. total count of cards in my hand was not evident. i love ttr in general. i hope that this game will be improved..Version: 1.0.11

Very glitchyFreezes mid game. Even restarting does not fix the issue..Version: 1.0.12

Dumb. This app is horrid compared to the old version, PLUS I had to repay the $4.99 to download it. Completely ridiculous. The tracks/trains are too hard to see, they blend together. You can’t “skip” the train animation during play or at the end. And there’s only the one map & Europe. The Mega on the old version was the most fun and now it’s all ruined. Very disappointed in the entire thing..Version: 1.0.11

Definite DowngradeThe original app was perfect! This version is so bloated, slow and buggy. Weird that it doesn’t even let you see the whole map on the screen. Bring back the original! Deeply disappointed!.Version: 1.0.12

Terrible design and makeoverIts as if they asked people who barely played the game, gave them a crash course over a day, and asked them to design. The result is what you have here, terrible visibility and feels more like a fantasy game than a strategy game. The previous app was lot better than this..Version: 1.0.12

“Play with family” … elsewhereI’m not sure what the developer’s obsession is with online play, but you’d think that a family board game advertised as offering a “play with family” option would include pass & play. Nope. Solo vs. AI or online only. Weak..Version: 1.0.11

Difficult to seeRoutes are hard to see.Version: 1.0.11

Visually HorribleI was so excited for the rerelease of this game. I was a daily player before. They have done way too much to try to make this game graphically appealing. It’s almost impossible to see the routes that have already been played at a glance because the map is far too busy. It really impacts strategy. I can’t imagine playing this game as someone who is visually impaired or color blind. I would highly encourage the developers to make an option to simplify the graphics for better visualization. This game is almost unplayable for me now. I was ready to repurchase all the expansions, but I’m glad I played a game first because I don’t think I will until something is fixed..Version: 1.0.10

Total FailThey shut down the online capability of the old version that had problems, but worked pretty well. MOST of the time. Then they replaced it with this pile of doggie doo doo. The new game crashes. The new game has no support for ranked play. Ranked play is the ONLY reason the old game was “sticky”. You could play (often familiar) opponents and the game would keep a running “rank”. Great incentive to get better… The new game is lame. The create game function gives me 2 opponents when I specifically set it up for 2 player. What? Game play is slow w/ no option to speed up animations. Did the developers outsource the new version to the lowest bidder? Horrible. Just horrible..Version: 1.0.12

Seriously?No local multiplayer. For a board game..Version: 1.0.10

Online doesn’t work; app crashes all the timeI am excited about the potential for this new version of the game. I like the presentation and even the music is nice. I find the placed routes are more challenging to identify at a glance (usually need to zoom in to confirm) and there should be an option for 2D or some easier option to see trains. Finally, the online games don’t work. I’ve tried a realtime and asynchronous game and both failed to load once joined. It just says “waiting for other players to play their turn” and often the user interface doesn’t load. I don’t get notifications re: my turn and there isn’t an option to approve or edit notifications settings in the game. I even had offline games fail to load and the game crashes. I hope it can be updated regularly. I won’t invest in additional maps until I can trust the game will work as intended..Version: 1.0.12

Day 1. HopingThere are so many glitches at 1st release. Let’s hope this gets sorted soon. Tried to play a game with a friend. Unable to pick tickets or even see the cards. All I got was a map and then nothing. I’ll wait and see.Version: 1.0.10

Accessibility nightmareThe new map is so hard to read, especially on an iPhone (vs an iPad). The tilted view, the overly detailed and colored map, the way that it’s hard to tell which spaces have trains on them or not… the numbers on the cards for having more than one of a color are so tiny they are almost unreadable on a phone screen. Please offer a “simple” map option where at least the background can be flattened to a plain color?? I used to play the old version daily and I can’t even get through a single game on this one without getting a headache..Version: 1.0.11

Disappointed 😩I was so excited to play this game because my other ticket to ride app is having connectivity issues. I realize the game has only been out for one day, but some major improvements need to happen before I become a fan. It is difficult to see where trains are placed on the track. It is difficult to see the pins that indicate which tracks/cities we have chosen. Too much effort was spent in the game zooming in to see where opponent laid their train track. This makes it difficult to see the entire board so you can plan your next move and strategize in advance of your turn, especially since the trains are hard to distinguish from the track. I am keeping my fingers crossed that there will also be some sort of ranking system so beginner players aren’t playing advance players. I do like the speed of the rapid play. I will remain optimistic that this will improve as it is updated. I will write a new review when changes have been made..Version: 1.0.11

Worse than the previous appI’ve played the version before this one and it’s better in lots of ways. The previous version -had achievements -the AI was actually challenging This version -I beat the ‘hard’ AI by at least 100 points every time -crashes a lot and playing with friends is glitchy (though as it is a new game I expect this) -the colors on the board and the ‘matching’ train ticket are different shades -customizing your train style is a nice touch, though.Version: 1.0.11

Bring back the old version.Unfortunately, this new edition of TTR is vastly inferior to its predecessor. There is such a lack of features comparatively, this new version feels rushed and incomplete. Less customisation for the games and no online ranking system are amongst the plethora of the missing features. This game even manages to surpass the older version in terms of the amount of bugs and crashes. The newer and updated graphics are welcome, and I hold out hope that much needed updates will come thick and fast. However in its current state, the void of features and overall character will disappoint fans of the previous game, I’m sure. Sometimes new isn’t better..Version: 1.0.11

So sadMy family is scattered around the country, and we have played ticket to ride for years(previous game). It helps us stay close in spirit. We’ve been waiting for the new game to continue play-however the creators forgot to put a way to invite friends on the game. DO NOT BUY if you intend to play family and friends. You can’t..Version: 1.0.12

Same game; worse UI & color schemesThe game is the same minus there being very few maps available as of right now. But my primary complaint is just that it looks so.. blah. The colors on the map don’t pop on the screen and easily blend into the background. The pins of your cities can only be noticed if you focus. The colors of the train cards are all just… off. They’re almost like a neon holographic color and it gives me a headache trying to stare at them. Lastly, when you draw new train tickets, they cover the other players’ information. Which means you can’t see how many tickets, color cards, or trains they have. All of those things are critical to being a strategic player. They actually only let you see that information when each player takes their turn. So on your own turn, you can’t see anyone else’s stats. I wish they’d de-bug the old game because it was a significantly better experience. I downloaded so many maps on the last app and played everyday. Can’t imagine I’ll be playing this hardly at all..Version: 1.0.11

What have they done?I am heartbroken. I have spent years using ticket to ride to de-stress and now it’s been ruined. I loved the game just as it was and so did so many others. Now there are no ratings, so it’s pointless, it takes ages to play, there is no reward for most routes. The game was perfect. Why ruin it? Clearly it’s been redesigned to look pretty but without any understanding of the game. Please restore it to its former glory..Version: 1.0.11

Wow…this is really badI was a fan of the previous incarnation of the app. I played with my friends constantly. However, this app is…terrible. They tried to add a bunch of graphics and features that look interesting but make the game more difficult to play and navigate. It’s hard to read. It’s annoying to play. I regret that this is the version we are left with..Version: 1.0.11

Large step backwardsWish I hadn’t purchased this. Forced to create a Bubble account to enable certain features such as multiplayer. Nowhere to claim the supposed free map if you owned previous version. I could go on, but honestly, it’s already been deleted. I never normally leave reviews, and do not feel the need to type more negative comments, but I have many...Version: 1.0.11

Don’t buy until they have fixed bugsNot an improvement on the old game, very hard to see the board or lay trains. But I ran out of trains and the game kept going! And there is no way to see who wins or what the score is when you quit. Obviously zero bug testing before release.Version: 1.0.10

New lots of potential …If you are a fan of the board game then you will like this version. However, like any new game it was released without all the kinks or bugs worked out. Hopefully they will fix the stalling, freezing and getting kicked out. Lots of potential and I look forward to seeing how they improve and hopefully add expansion packs..Version: 1.0.11

CrashApp keeps crashing mid game… kind of frustrating, and can’t go back to the game!.Version: 1.0.12

No chat is bad, no rankings / ratings / progression is worse 😡The removal of any form of chat, after the gradual failure of the chat function on the original version of the game is probably not surprising, but definitely disappointing. Worse, this new version has also no implementation of any player rankings or ratings, removing the pull and longevity of the game (at least for me). The UI is also fiddly, train placement especially. I want to know how good the players are I’m playing and see my in-game progression. Playing random game instances gets boring quickly. Disappointing waste of £4.99, and with no developer road map other than a £30 in-app purchase for 10 expansion packs (only 1 of which is released) - I’m not sure I’ll be back..Version: 1.0.12

Promising but incompleteThe game is as fun to play in the app as it is on a table. However, it’s missing several features the older/other digital app version had: namely, the ability to play offline (pass and play), and the ability to play without crashing. There is promise, in terms of new expansion packs to come (I pre-ordered these which should have given me access to Europe- I have access on one device but not the other). There are glitches when inviting a friend to play- if you invite them more than once, they’re told the game no longer exists when they click accept. I still love playing, but will enjoy it more when it’s seamless..Version: 1.0.12

Took away the best function “local” playThey removed the “local” play. Now I cannot play on a train or plane with my son who is using another iPad sitting in another seat not next to me. That was the best part of the game. Please add back. Internet is still not available everywhere. Not everyone lives in an urban area where there is high speed internet available everywhere..Version: 1.0.10

Very poorOlder game was much better. Slow to use and difficult to see stations. Wouldn't recommend buying unless they solve these issues.Version: 1.0.11

Work needs to be doneWhen playing against computer players the game crashed a few times but overall worked okay. However multiplayer doesn’t work. If you do get a game to start it freezes on someone’s turn mid game. Work has to be done on this game…...Version: 1.0.11

Poorly Designed / not readyIf you played the older version of TTR by a different company, you will most likely be very disappointed with this version. To begin with, it’s very glitchy.. wouldn’t let me play, would freeze up, would draw cards versus make the play wanted. There is no basic chat, it’s hard to see your routes with their choice of markers. The animation can’t be turned off, there is a timed aspect but you can’t see the clock (except for you on your turn). The cards are oddly designed/colored. No ranking. I was really excited for a new version but unfortunately it’s not worth the $5. Maybe with some fixes and upgrades. Only time will tell..Version: 1.0.10

Sad downgrade from the old gameI’ve played ticket to ride online for almost two years, almost every day and I was excited to try this new version. Nothing but disappointment. The graphics are awful, I get nauseous with the movements every time I drop a route. There’s so many unnecessary animations that are distracting from the game. The colors on the cards and trains are really weird and not true to the game. You can’t see the map well at all. When you go to drop your trains you have to line up an arrow directly onto the route. The counting at the end was lacking. I liked in the other game how you could see the cards as they were revealed, it gave satisfaction of knowing where you blocked someone and how the game went. This one just tallies the numbers with no real visual. Overall, I’m SO sad with this game. I want to play the board game online, this is taking it in a really weird direction and it’s really not doing it for me..Version: 1.0.11

This is not the physical copySo many in app purchases, totally ruins the whole ticket to ride experience that you would get with the board game version. Nothing special about this version compared to the previous ticket to ride app that was taken down.Version: 1.0.10

KEEPS CRASHINGPaid $5 USD for this app, and it keeps crashing! Haven’t been able to complete more than one game with friends. Aside from that, the game is fun and makes it so much easier to play “Ticket to Ride”… it it’s working. Hope the developers can fix the bugs soon..Version: 1.0.11

Marmalade has lost their wayLast couple releases by Marmalade have really missed the mark… like what on earth is going on over there. You all started off strong! It’s too bad too because I was so excited for this release. Other people have said it, but this game is visually a nightmare. It’s very challenging to see what’s going - especially once the trains get out there, I’m straining to see what lines are open. The “perspective view” is working against the visuals and the detail on the landscape is a lot visually too. The menus are not the most intuitive (why a separate lobby for async, what if I want to track a friend - not public - and play async with them?). The playable characters are sort of strange brand add- it would honestly be better not having characters at all. The whole thing is just disappointing. and the worst part of all….? The previous app was SO GOOD. Granted, it was getting old, but they really understood what players wanted. It feels like Marmalade really doesn’t understand their audience and their needs. Really too bad cause Ticket to Ride is such a great game..Version: 1.0.11

BuggyThis has so many bugs and glitches it’s hard to play with family when it glitches and won’t go to the next player. There are times you run out of trains and it won’t end the game just buggy…….that being said if the bugs get fixed it will be fun!.Version: 1.0.12

Way worse than originalNo mega maps and they took a game that had no flaws and made it way worse..Version: 1.0.12

Terrible. The new ticket to ride by Marmalade plays way too clunky, What was somewhat of a fast-paced game before (could finish a 4 player game in less than half an hour) now plays slow due to the constant unnecessary animations. Not only that, but the visuals are just plain awful. It’s pretty hard to tell which color of train card is which, and route markers just kind of blend into the game board due to those unnecessary visuals. Don’t fix what isn’t broke, Marmalade..Version: 1.0.11

The other version was betterWhat a shame. They came out with a “new” version and charges again for the game. There are no improvements, in fact the game is worse than the original. Especially for colorblind folks. Refund is going to be requested….Version: 1.0.11

WORST GAME MAKEOVER EVERWow. I never leave negative reviews as I usually try to just give people credit when do. But this is unbelievable. The previous ticket to ride version of the game was great. I have literally zero good or better improvements to this game. It is awful. I couldn’t even finish my first game. For the example you literally can barely see your routes that you’re trying to connect with trains on the map. Even when you’re trying hard to find your trains, the route cards you choose, are so tiny and hard, see that you don’t know what routes you’re choosing, there’s no timer, the map looks like it never changes cause you don’t know who’s routes are where or what routes or cities you’re trying to reach. It is, such a bummer I love this game and I want my money back immediately for this new version. I don’t get it the new developers. Why would you take over a game if you’re not even trying to make money or make a good product product that was already good. honestly I’m so confused. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY WAIT FOR THIS VERSION TO FAIL AND NEW DEVELOPER TO UNDO NEW MISTAKES.Version: 1.0.10

Sadly disappointing, missed the mark on an epic gameI have played the previous release of this app for more then 5 years, and you have missed the mark on a re-release focusing on items that don’t add to the gameplay for the user. I don’t need to see trains “fly” into place on the board, these animations are unnecessary and slow down the game. An option to turn this off would be beneficial. I don’t need the board to zoom in and out when pieces are played, I need a board that I can see during game play. The text font is too small to read. The board is too cluttered. The route markers are hard to decipher and blend in with the rest of the board. The expansion prices are ridiculous, the previous cost for the Europe expansion was $3-4, but 10.99 for the expansion is crazy, and $50 for expansions that have not even been developed yet, when previously I purchased all the expansions for less then $20 is insane. Get back to the basics of the game play which is what players want. We don’t need fancy graphics. We need a game that runs in a reasonable time and doesn’t waste time watching animations. Very disappointing.Version: 1.0.11

So disappointedI LOVE ticket to ride, my mom and I would play daily multiple times and we both loved playing in general in our free time. I was nervous about it being redone because it was already so good! I bought every map on the old one and have felt like I got my moneys worth out of it. This one I don’t. It makes me so sad to think when the old one shuts down I won’t get to play anymore. The way it keeps throwing you out randomly, you can’t see your route, even seeing my trains on the board is an issue…it’s all too small. I hate that I can’t turn off the animation, it takes forever to play one game and I don’t have that much time normally. You can’t see if your friends are online to play with, you don’t have a ranking to check out your competition, you can’t chat with your friends in game, and so much more. 😭 the only thing I like is my character and choosing a color was easy. Save your money. Please developers just put it back like it was!! Functional and efficient is so much better than pretties and animations..Version: 1.0.12

Major downgradeThey complicated the app in the most frustrating of ways. The previous version was simple, clean and fun. This game is confusing, slow and sloppy. I’ve played two games and it’s crashed both times. One of my biggest issues with the game is that you can hardly tell where the trains are on the board. To make matters worse, they’ve added very similar colored trains which makes the game nearly impossible for those that are colorblind. Sheesh. Worst $4.99 I have ever (re)spent!! 👎.Version: 1.0.12

Ticket to rideIt is difficult to see the trains laid on the screen, sound effects are boring, would like to see the map as the final scoring is completed. At this point, can’t figure out how to play with a friend online..Version: 1.0.11

Slow and hard to see mapOld version was faster and easier to read.Version: 1.0.12

Update is huge step back!!Very unpleased with the new app update. After purchasing all the maps in the previous version, I am stuck no longer being able to play them and now have to buy maps all over again on this version at a much higher cost. Ridiculous. There should be at least a discount for those who already purchased maps. Also the app only has Europe and US maps. This update is a huge step back..Version: 1.0.12

DowngradeThe last ticket to ride app was so much better. so many unnecessary animations make each turn take so long. map is difficult to see trains and routes because of the conflicting colors. only 3 options for the online timer instead of being able to select the exact amount of time you want. there’s so much more i dislike but not worth typing it all. i hate everything about this app. will be using the old one until the servers are shut down..Version: 1.0.12

IncompleteNo notifications, previous version had them. Ongoing asynchronous and friend games get stuck on bots and never can finish. Haven’t finished a game yet under this new version. Pretty useless. Graphics are a big improvement over the previous publisher….Version: 1.0.12
