✓ Not for m meWell, I guess this one isn’t for me. I tried to like it. I kept going back over and over hoping I’d finally “get it”, but no. Bottom line, I just can’t the hang of the controls. As basic as they technically are, I even looked them up online (which the very fact I had to do that constitutes a fundamental design fail), and even “knowing” what I’m meant to do, there’s an utter disconnect between those supposed touch gestures and the actual gameplay. Oh well - the game has enough excellent reviews to drive the point that to each their own. The second star in my rating is for production/design quality. That or you use the button mode in which case it takes enough of a second to kill you. ✓ UnsatisfyingI really wanted to like this game. Gave it an honest go for half an hour and just found it unsatisfying. I’m all in favour of challenging rhythm games. But if a game’s going to be challenging I at least want to feel a sense of accomplishment when I get it right. This game had none of that. At the later levels the game demands that during flight(swipe up) while also swiping left/right for walls and the game has trouble recognizing those gestures. ✓ Great until tilting ipad proI thought this was the epitome of the modern arcade game, maybe a bit questionable with the gesture response, but then I got to the stage where you need to tilt to change lanes and there are no options to modify the controls (how hard is it to allow a double-tap in the direction of the lane for a switch instead?). ✓ Good concept, not for touchscreen at allIn the end, it all came down to struggling with the touchscreen controls — this isn’t supposed to be the real challenge of the game, sadly. This game is great. It is intentionally designed to be hard and the fun is to challenge your reflectivity during the high-speed rush. Everything is cool except that you HAVE to use a controller or keyboard to manage everything. Your mistakes are only tolerated down to a window of less than one second which is way below the sensitivity of touch screen gestures. There is simply no way to make your swipes faster than the game allows, not to mention that you NEED to chain many such swipes in a perfect stream in order to move on since level 3. So if you really like this game, go play it on a PC or console, not on an iPhone or iPad. PS: I knew the game supports Bluetooth controllers. ✓ High learning curve - even the tutorialsI would love this game , but even with the tutorials the gestures are super unclear. I went as far as to google them. The “jump and pound” feature tutorial in level 3…. I followed the countdown for like 20 min….. got it to work once. The learning curve is high… it’s a game I would totally be into, but either the game is not as responsive as it should be with the iPhone, or it’s not easy enough to play. I can’t tell if there’s a lag between gustier input, but it kinda feels that way. Otherwise I’d give it a better review. And I’ve played Hexaflip, where the gestures input time is integral in game play, and it wasn’t a problem- so I feel like the app might need work. ✓ Good game brought down by bad controlsI really want to like that game, but the touch controls are very finicky and unresponsive, which is a major problem for a rhythm game like this. I keep getting stuck on this one level because the game cannot respond to my touch inputs fast enough, and it doesn’t register my swipe up motion if it’s preceding my another input. Even when I completely over exaggerate the swipe up motion, it still registers it as a tap and not a swipe. I don’t mind playing with a controller, but I shouldn’t be essentially forced to due to bad touch controls. ✓ Literally UnplayableI don’t mean the game is bad. The first time I started it up, it worked perfectly fine and I was able to play the first few levels. The gameplay is fast-paced, challenging, and engaging. What I mean is every subsequent time I started the app, I couldn’t get the menu to appear, and so couldn’t play the game at all. There are clearly some serious bugs that need to be addressed, and though I am able to hit the rhythm, the windows for success are small and I can see why others have trouble. Most rhythm games have an offset and/or automatic calibration tool, but this one has neither. With a working UI and some calibration options, this is a 4/5-star game.
