Oticon Companion for Positive User Reviews

Sound equaliser still has the old lookI cannot get the new look of the sound equaliser. All the rest looks like in the pictures but the equaliser. I asked the audiologist for an firmware update and I have been told that there is nothing to update unless the laptop is telling to do one. Also, keeps disconnecting from the app alternatively, not both at once. The app itself noticed this issue and I was asked for more information, so I did. Waiting now for a response. Please advice with regards to the sound equaliser. Thank you!.Version: 1.2.2

Big improvement over Oticon OnHaving used both apps with More and Real Hearing Aids the companion app is a significant improvement. It is still not perfect and it still suffers from disconnection issues but these mostly occur in busy environments and as such are an issue with the HA’s connection to the Apple device rather than the app..Version: 1.2.2

Functional with a need for more featuresOn a good day, this app fulfills most of the functions you need to do with your hearing aids. There is nothing really special included This is an update to the previous app which functioned similarly. This latest version, which just came out, functions very well and is pretty much the same as the original Oticon app. This UI is a bit nicer though. I’m hoping when iOS 17 releases there will be additional features added to the app. Note: If anyone experiences an issue with either Oticon app, it is possible to do most everything the apps do using the Apple accessibility menu, which has been updated albeit is pretty featureless..Version: 1.2.2

Big improvement over oticon OnI never write reviews but I feel compelled to because there are so many negative ones which is very different from my experience. I installed this in iOS 16 and now using in iOS 17 without issue. I have an iPhone 13pro -I’ll start with the biggest improvement which is the Apple Watch complication (it’s called “companion”). The previous one required using the Digital Crown to change volume which was very imprecise. The current complication has a + and - button to push which is much better. Also it has a toggle for the speech booster function which is new. -the iPhone app itself is about the same as the prior version, very responsive and connected to my oticon miniRite hearing aids easily. -The app shows estimated battery time (ie x hours ) remaining on the hearing aids in addition to the percentage charge remaining I almost didn’t download the new app because of the poor reviews but I’m glad I did. I’d encourage you to give it a try and decide for yourself..Version: 1.2.2

Early daysNot bad will improve . Disconnects often when opening app then have to close and reopen. Although triple click on Apple iPhone is a better option which I love. Small problems that will be ironed out I’m sure..Version: 1.2.2

Better After ImprovementsThe Companion App was first downloaded around 13 - 14 September 2023. I experienced the same problems noted in previous reviews. Companion app deleted and Oticon ON reinstalled. I really liked ON and the symbols for different features. Today I discovered that ON was no longer available. Oticon Customer Support was called. After a wait (no unusual for any customer support), I was connected with LeAnn (sp). She informed me that app changes had been made and to delete the Companion app and reinstall upgraded version. I did and she walked me through the pairing process. Now the Companion app is working as it should. Although I liked better the way the ON app allowed feature changes. I advise deleting the Companion app if you have had it for a week or more and reinstalling from App Store. Good luck! Now in October 2023, after over a month of use, I must say that I am not happy with Oticon Companion App. The app drops one or both hearing aids throughout a day. Sometimes restarting a hearing aid works, other times I need to delete and reinstall the app. Very frustrating. Love my Oticon in-ear hearing aids. The Companion App, NO. Derry Virginia.Version: 1.2.2

Nice!I am liking the new app! The only thing I really enjoyed was “hearing fitness”. It registered how much time each day I wore my hearing aids. Definitely a plus and something you should add back. My only other problem is switching my “more” hearing aids between my iPad and my iPhone. By default, they should be connected to my phone. But it seems that the app goes in alphabetical order (pad comes before phone). And the hearing aids stay attached to the iPad until I turn off Bluetooth on My iPad (which I don’t want to do… other things need Bluetooth!) as soon as I turn Bluetooth back on on the iPad, the hearing aids switch back to the iPad. So, I deinstalled the iPad app and will use Bluetooth headphones instead until this gets fixed..Version: 1.1.0

Making steady improvementsI have the Opticon Real 2’s. Yes, I do get some connection issues from time to time. I find it’s easiest to force quit the app by dragging it off the screen in multi-finder mode, and then it’s fine. The old Oticon On app had a nicer interface, and seemed more solid with my Opn2’s, but there are also new features in the Oticon Companion, that have really changed how I use hearing aids, and what I’m getting out of them. Admittedly, some of this may be due to the expertise of the audiologist in tuning and setting up the hearing aids. I also used to be in computer tech-support, which I suppose helps. At this point, I would say that the Oticon Companion app is not only more than adequate, but it takes advantage of new features that weren’t available on previous hearing aids. On newer hearing aids, it’s probably worth it to check for firmware updates with your audiologist as well..Version: 1.2.2

Improvement suggestionI’m generally happy with this app to manage my miniRite R aids However, there is one issue that could easily be solved. Often, when I am in a concert theatre with very poor mobile coverage, I want to change the hearing program. In those circumstances, the app is completely unresponsive unless I turn off the phones mobile data connection. It’s clear that the app is waiting indefinitely for a network connection to report the location of my aids, but this never completes. The best design pattern for this would be for the location reporting to take place in a separate thread so that the UI was not impacted at all by this process. Alternatively, you could provide the network connection with a short timeout to limit the period of unresponsiveness. Thanks..Version: 1.1.0

Clear and easy to useI’ve had no problems with this app since updating it last year. It connects with my hearing aids within less than a minute and gives me information in a clear, well laid out format. But then I only have the phone to connect to. If I do want to pair the hearing aids with the computer then I have to unbluetooth them from the phone but I don’t think that’s anything to do with the app, and it’s only a minor inconvenience anyway..Version: 1.2.2

How can we disconnect from the app without switching hearing aid off?Have not try this new app yet but thanks for letting me know. Just a question to the developer is there a way that you can keep your hearing on and switch it off from the Octicon on your iPhone? When I need others to hear a conversation on my phone I have to switch off my hearing aid I order to disconnect.Version: 1.2.2

Good but could be better!I’m loving my new hearing aids! I can now connect them to my phone, which is a game changer. However, it is so easy to lose the connection between the hearing aids and my phone, just walking out of the room where my phone is is enough to disconnect them. Each time this happens to have to open the app and reconnect. Also the app needs to be open on the phone all the time, if you close the app it will not run in the background. I hope these issues can be resolved so the hearing aids can operate like other Bluetooth devices..Version: 1.0.0

Amazing but….Takes WAY too long to connect hearing aids in the app. Way too long.Version: 1.2.2

A few commentsAs a graphic designer I appreciate the more contemporary look of the new Companion app. However, the bold magenta volume control against a sea of white background is too striking to be used discretely. The gray and magenta combo as used in the Oticon On app would be better or the app needs to have the option to be run in ‘dark mode’. If I’m in a public setting, dining with a group, at the theater, etc. I wish to access the app discretely to make adjustments. My other issue, which has already be documented by others, is the unacceptably long loading time the app requires. It makes the app totally unusable in everyday use. Until this issue is resolved I have no choice but to use the Oticon On app. Update: Kudos for the updated AppleWatch app! It’s excellent - layout, color combo and functionality! Please make the phone app look and work more like the watch app!.Version: 1.1.0

2nd reviewThe App was changed without providing instructions to customers on what to do. I only realised when I remembered my last visit to my audiologist where I needed to repair my hearing aids to the app after one was repaired and returned to me. Prior to repairing my aids this app didn’t connect. Seems simple but it won’t work if you just download /update the app. Oticon should have stated this in the message they provided when the old app would no longer open and they directed us to this new app. To repair on iPhone go to Settings, Accessibility, then Hearing devices and select ‘connect/pair’. You mat need to select ‘forget this device’ first. As soon as I did that my aids connected and the app works really well. I’ve dropped 1 star for the missed opportunity to communicate but I should have dropped 2 stars. Tried but couldn’t go back. I’m happy with this version, it does more and is more user-friendly. I hope Oticon takes this feedback and realised that consumer engagement is key!.Version: 1.2.2

Works fineYesterday I gave it a 1 star review but I found the problem and now it’s working fine. You need to make sure the hearing aids are only connected to one device. I had them connected to my iPhone and iPad and it gets confused. I disconnected them from my iPad and now the app works fine and hasn’t disconnected..Version: 1.2.2

Firmware Upgrade RequiredInitially my Oticon OPN 1 BTE PP hearing aids were not compatible with this new app, after working great for many years with the Oticon ON app. There is a notice on Oticon’s support web site that warns that OPN hearing aids may need a firmware upgrade to version 6.0 or later. I had the firmware in my hearing aids upgraded and the app now works well, with similar features to Oticon ON for OPN hearing aids..Version: 1.2.2

Apple Watch complication missingFinally started using this after several warnings that Oticon ON will stop working shortly. I’ve also deleted the old Oticon ON to prevent any issues it states may happen if using both. No issues with connection so far but will update if it becomes an issue later. My only issue so far is that there is no Apple Watch complication. I used to be able to add the Oticon ON complication to my Apple Watch face for very quick easy action to change volume and also programs. On deleting the old app, the complication disappeared so when editing watch face and trying to add the new Oticon Companion there is no option to add it. I can still add the Oticon Companion to the dock but would appreciate if you could look into fixing the issue and reinstating the complication feature so it can be added to watch face..Version: 1.2.2

Useless appI have spent thousands of dollars on the hearing aids, plus accessories such as the hands free devise, and the TV connector. The hands free device is rendered useless as when I answer a call, the app knocks the volume to an in auditable volume which I can’t adjust which drive on working at heights in construction industry, this causes me to lose customers and jobs. I used to TV connector yo be able to listen to the television without complaint from family or neighbours that the tv volume is too high, yet my hearing is rendered unless as the app keeps disconnecting constantly to the point it’s of severe frustration and I have to j go I’ve up watching as I can hear or follow what’s being said. I have followed all the advice to make sure there are no conflicts with other appts or devises as per appt instructions Re fault finding , words cannot express how disappointed with this app, your developers should hang their heads in shame..Version: 1.2.2
