✓ Was a five star app, no more - in-app advertising is poorI concur with other reviewers lamenting the introduction of in-app advertising and the US-centric FDA warnings, etc. These are not features, they do not add to the program, they are annoying and add bloat. I wrote to the developers and they said they needed to have advertising to pay for developments, fair enough in principle, but how many features do you need in a shopping app? The first screenshot is a classic - Cook with Carnation Milk - no I don't want to buy carnation milk... considering abandoning and paying more for an app that doesn't invade my shopping lists a la 'ReachEverywhere'..Version: 0

✓ Ruined by bad developmentThis app started out with great promise but got worse and worse with every new upgrade. The development cycle is geared around squeezing more revenue from existing (paying) customers. New "features" are geared around the American market with tacky widgets that would still be pointless even if they did work in New Zealand. It would been impressed if the developers focused on improving core functionality. For example, adding more category icons as I now have a very huge list of "miscellaneous" category items. I would also like to see support for two iPhone owners to share a single shopping list. At present, each person (usually couples) have to manage thier own individual list which the other person has limited access to. Now looking for a suitable replacement..Version: 0
✓ Do NOT PurchaseI have been a shopper user for many years. Currently pay for the app at Gold level. I recently had a syncing issue with the app, contacted customer support, no response. The telephone support number is disconnected. I deleted the app and reinstalled trying to fix the issue - now I can’t log on. Contacted support via email, said they will get back to me. Now some two weeks later and several additional emails -no response. As others have said, it is time to find another app and cancel my subscription..Version: 10.8.717

✓ This App is pure garbage!This app was recommended by Canadian Living, so I figured it would be tailored to the Canadian market. Not so! First thing I did was enter my Canadian postal code and enable this app to know my location. Upon searching for nearby grocery stores the only listings it came up with was every Canadian Tire and GNC store. Notwithstanding the fact there are numerous Metros, Longos, Superstores…etc. in the area. I tried everything in the app settings and nothing worked to resolve this basic issue. The flowing is a genuine review from a ripped off customer:- I paid for this app, then they snuck in the advertising. I feel ripped off! Curious that Apple allows a non-performing app with so many issues and no updates stay available for downloads. ✓ Now it is too much[u] I can't stand this any more. It is too slow to load compared to what the app used to be. Even the 'done' button when putting in items into the basket isn't working. Do not waste your £0.59 on these unless you're sure. Try other lite or free shopping app first. I could recommend this before the latest major revision but NOT ANY MORE. FAILED. Docked 4 stars to 1 for being over-engineered. -------- Used to be the best (from about 4 similar apps that I owned) but now it is getting fatter with all the extra features of which a large part of it I don't need. Things I don't like: Start (home) screen now in grid (the user-defined option although working is taking too much steps. Badge icon (can be turn off in the iPhone global setting tho) - before, if we left the app outside of the shopping lists ie. not quitting the app while in a list, the badge icon won't display the number of items on that list but now when you select some of the store setting in the app it will. ✓ Ads - no thanksBefore I used to think this was a really good app. Did all I wanted. Recently though they have introduced so called warnings about foodstuffs and also flyer type ads. I just want a basic shopping list that I can tick off as I go down the aisles, a good list & way to add/edit and maybe the extra's list. The most common task of adding something to a list and shopping it could be more intuitive. Shame favorites/reminders can't be synced; and favorites & items can't be tagged to a particular shopping list eg: so if we need cheese and a paint roller we can just tick them and one finds its way to the groceries shopping list and the other finds it's way to the hardware list ie: we shop by store/category not by item.Version: 8.9.61

✓ Well, it use to be nice..For a 59p app it WAS fantastic. Did everything I needed it to do. However, new features are useless!! Ads in a PAID APP??? £1.19 in addition to the 59p I already spent on it to turn off the ads and useless tips?? You have got to be kidding me! Requiring a postcode is rubbish as well, its none of their business where I live, and having to email for a way around it was just insult to injury. Needs a clearer way to opt out - WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT. Stupid. Adding things from the website is a nice feature - now that I would pay a little extra for - however if you edit anything existing on your list through the web page it deletes your aisle and price settings in the app! Useless!! The developer wont even address this issue and has ignored emails about it. I wouldn't bother buying this. ✓ DO NOT BUYAs has been mentioned by umpteen other reviews, it seems very rude to have ads in a paid for app. That asides, items disappeared from custom shopping lists and the app showed an extremely annoying update badge which could not be removed and there was no apparent way to update after searching the app (logged in) for quite a long period. I initially purchased this app for BlackBerry and it seemed very good at the time. It would appear that virtually no thought has gone into the iPhone version and the App certainly does not appear to have improved over time......very 'Windows' and not desirable in the Mac environment, where things 'just work' pretty much all of the time. ✓ Great app, but...Great shopping app that I’ve used for years now, but it's been many, many, many months, and despite a handful of updates the app still hasn't been upgraded to work correctly on the iPhone X, Xs, or Xs Max. Please fix your app so it works on the new iPhones and understands safe areas. If you’re reading this review on an older phone, I’d definitely recommend this app. If you have a new iPhone with a notch, however, please note that it’s been 11 months since the iPhone X was released, and the developer has totally failed to support that device. I guess I should be used to it, as it also took them nearly a year to support Plus-sized iPhones too. Since then, it has become more and more annoying with each update. ✓ Serious Syncing IssuesMy family has been using this app for a few years, and recently we’ve had a lot of extremely inconvenient issues with syncing. We will set up lists with detailed notes on one of our phones or through the computer interface, get to the store, and find that all of the extra info (like how much fat content the recipe says the ground beef should have, for instance) will have disappeared. ✓ What this app teaches youIf there's one thing this app teaches you, it's always check what the updates are before updating. I also bought this app at the original full price of 3.99 and it was my absolute favourite app. Once they started putting unwanted features in I stopped updating. ✓ Recent updates killed my customizationI have been a gold subscriber for years with this app and have loved it till the most recent update this week. A few days ago, I received a notification about my upcoming subscription renewal. It asked if I wanted to cancel or keep. I selected ‘keep’. Right after that the app completely disappeared from from phone and I had to redownload from the App Store. I just went in to add some items to my grocery list and everything is different. The custom pics/order I had for aisles are all gone...and food items that should be in the same aisle aren’t grouping by that aisle. Items that I had added and frequently buy are no longer even on my list. It has completely changed everything and the original reason I purchased this app. Also, annual subscription jumped from $5.99 to $8.99...really...a 50% increase? ✓ Ad based revenue in a paying app?Shopper was the very first application I bought on the App store but I'm sorry to say that I will be looking for a replacement from now on. It was one thing when the system got more and more complicated with features that were targeted for the US market only. But now, having banner ads appear in my selection window when I'm creating my lists is too much. I'm sorry to hear the costs have overrun, but I don't think that adding advertising into a paying customer's application with no way to opt-out is a solution that will keep your customer base. ✓ Once was great... :(What was one of the earliest Apps I bought and used all the time has become slow, bloated and LESS functional over time. they have changed the interface a number of times. only when they revert back does it work as it should. it doesn't get straight into my list like it used to (and I thought I'd found a menu option to do that!). adding items now ends up with two DONE buttons and one doesn't clear the screen. i keep pressing each item to know whether it was been added or removed or whether it's editing it now. it's just a usability nightmare compared to what it once was. i wish could go back about 5 versions. and not upgraded. ✓ Development is off trackI've enjoyed Shopper from MidCentury for many months now and have found it incredibly flexible and useful, having configured my regular supermarkets and I think (probably wishfully) that it's made shopping faster and has stopped me overspending on things I don't really need. In a misguided attempt to eke revenue from existing customers, the app is now filled with ads for American products, FDA alerts and sponsored "flyers" that have no relevance to users outside of the USA. This is a regrettable bait and switch from the developers and is making the app very frustrating to use.
