Sonos S1 Controller for Negative User Reviews

App Needs More FeaturesI love the sound I get from my speakers, but the review isn’t really about the speakers. It’s about the app, which needs some work. The ability to access multiple audio sources is great. What it is missing though are the small details that make the apps from those services it is drawing from a better option almost every time. For instance, the Pandora app lets you view songs that have already played - so, if you were away from the device and heard a new song and want to know more about it, you could check later to see what it was. With the Sonos app, if you don’t check while the song is playing you will never know. With the Books from Audible, it’s great that you can play it in multiple rooms but losing the ability to speed up the playback means I won’t use that service here. The same (or worse) with Apple podcasts. The only way to access them is via the On This Phone option. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tap into the organization that the iPhone uses and just puts everything out there in a mess so if you have multiple episodes to listen to, it’s just a huge mess. This also needs the speed up option that the regular podcast apps offer. Again, I love my speakers and the music I play on them sounds amazing. However, I really hope the app gets some good upgrades soon..Version: 10.1

Could be BetterThe app works reasonably well and allows you to control the main functions of any integrated Sonos system but it is far from complete. It has a range of annoying glitches and is just not very polished. It’s as if Sonos take the view that any Sonos user is somehow a captive audience so they don’t really need to try too hard improving the app. A shame because some minor improvements and enhancements would make it so much better.Version: 10.6.2

Disappointing and MisleadingI bought this speaker a few years ago and I was just happy to have a high quality speaker. The first thing I noticed was that you can't play sound from your phone, you have to either select it from "on my iPhone" or use a streaming service that you have to pay a monthly subscription to, but I listen to podcasts more than I do music so no big deal. Then an update came where you could use air play to listen to things on your phone, this was what I wanted when I bought the speaker initially, only for that feature to be removed and only available to newer speakers, which was a clear marketing move to try and get you to buy a new speaker, even though mine works perfectly. And now the "on my iPhone" feature has also been removed, and my speaker can't get airplay, this means unless my podcasts are popular enough to be on a free radio app, I would have to pay for a subscription to a service... to listen to a free podcast... on a speaker I've already paid for... that now has less functionality than when I first bought it because of updates to the app??? I've cancelled my subscriptions to music services I use through the app and will be buying a beats speaker, because that speaker won't try to bully me into paying to actually use the speaker after the initial purchase and then take away features once they've already took my money. I'm disappointed in sonos and I feel taken advantage of..Version: 10.4.1

Lack of support for new sono speakers🙄.Version: 11.3

Big promise, not so much deliveryI have found the whole system to not be quite what it is hyped up to be. It is a pain being in a room and having to have a device in your hand to control the system. My previous system had a controller on the wall of each room I had speakers in. I get a lot of buffering. This morning it has decided it is not going to play any radio stations. Now I have to waste time trying to sort it out. It does not fill me with confidence..Version: 11.1

Amazing system, difficult app that keeps getting worseThe Sonos system itself has literally no real competition, so there's nothing much to say there. If you want an integrated wireless hifi system for your house that actually works, and supports all the major streaming/storage providers it’s the only game in town. The controller app, however, is a rolling disaster that manages to keep getting worse with each subsequent redesign. The latest major update apes the design of the iOS music app but it’s just an impossibly poor fit: there are two separate “room” interfaces and you will always, inevitably, pick the wrong one for the action you want to do. Volume controls are hidden in a slide-up “now playing” card which, when expanded, hides the shortcut links to everything. Getting simple things done is like swimming through molasses: someone at Sonos needs to sit down and do some actual user testing for this stuff. The good news is that they’ve mostly ignored the OS X/windows controller applications, so the interface there is still actually usable. And like I said, it’s the only game in town so what are you gonna do?.Version: 8.2.2

Sucks nowCan’t play the music off my phone anymore! Half the reason I bought Sonos. Unbelievable!!.Version: 10.3.2

A big step backwardsI've had sonos for a few years now. Once I overcame the spanning tree network issue that brought my entire LAN to its knees (I used an API hack to turn the wifi off), I happily made use of the sonos gear in quite a few rooms. A few months ago, my only criticism would have been a jitter issue that is noticeable, especially on my home theatre system. The recent changes to the iOS app interface are a huge step backwards in usability. The app is no longer intuitive. The app now requires more steps to get music playing then before. Like many users, I wish I could have the old app back. I would no longer recommend Sonos. There are better systems on the market nowadays and the very thing that attracted people to sonos (the highly functional app interface) has been changed beyond recognition..Version: 8.2.1

DO NOT BUY Into SonosUpdate July 2019: These Sonos idiots have decided that their hi-tech folks just can't keep up with iOS so playing music from your iToy will soon not be an option. Your options are streaming or your iTunes library on your PC: oh wait! ITunes is going away too. Grrrrr, a conspiracy? If you don't want to pay $10 a month for music you've already bought, or you want to listen music from your iToy, Sonos is NOT the way to go. I'll be looking at Bluetooth speakers. Too bad, Sonos One's have great sound, but if I can't play my iMusic library on them, I guess they'll make ok bookends. Sonos will soon be another burial in the tech cemetery: do not invest in their yesterday tech. Paired with Sonos speakers, you can sit with your iPad or iPhone is your easy chair, and select and play any music you own (if it's properly organized) and ... drum roll ... control the volume from your device. Selecting tracks and managing the queue is a breeze! The interface to iTunes for naming a music library is a bit clunky and can get out of sync if you specify more than one library on more than one PC, but if all your music is on the iPad, this is not an issue. Also, many popular streaming sources such as Pandora are supported. I just love this app!.Version: 10.3

Software malfunctionUnbelievable that the glitch in the software still exists... so tired of music skipping and stopping when playing from iPad or iPhone. I would never recommend Sonos to anyone.Version: 9.3.1

Produit non supportéVos produits ne seront plus supportés dans quelques mois ,mai 2020’ Votre département de recherche et développements n’est même pas capable de faire coexisté les anciens équipements avec les nouveaux. Vos produits ont une date de péremption prédéterminée. J’ai cependant beaucoup de produits Sonos, si j’avais su qu’il y avait une date de péremption je n’aurais jamais acheté vos produits Jacques Leblanc Very complicated product, Scam, sonos makes it complicated to keep sonos 1, Your goal is to make us migrate to sonos 2 I will never buy another sonos product.Version: 11.12

AirPlay 2 failure is a dealbreaker.I want to love my Sonos system, I really do. Unfortunately, the inability to use AirPlay 2 as intended (initiate listening session and control all aspects of playback, discovery, library manipulation etc from the individual native apps or, more importantly, assign playback location directly from iOS Control Center instead of through the slightly lacking Sonos app) is frustrating. Tried everything including a two hour “support” session with Sonos. Nothing but an admission that AirPlay is “hard to implement AND yet maintain control over the data”. I know it’s getting old to complain about but the insatiable business model focused more on how to monetize users and user’s data than simply developing a good product is getting ridiculous and it’s preventing consumers from getting what they expect and pay for. AirPlay 2 support for Airport Express is going to really hurt Sonos if they don't get this figured out quick! I just dusted off a few I had laying about. Saved me $600 (and lost Sonos the sales) since I already have good “dumb” speakers. My advice to Sonos: worry less about trying to make speakers “smart” and worry more about putting audio playback in its modern form (read:digital/streaming) first!.Version: 9.0

Horrible changes to the app.Been using Sonos daily for years now. Recent gratuitous app changes leave us cursing and swearing as we try to negotiate to the usual most used portions. Rather than optimise the app so that frequent operations are more intuitive and less operations to access, some bright spark had the idea to make everything even more difficult and less intuitive. Then there are the newly introduced and still not fixed issues of walking into the kitchen and being told there is no wifi here. I can run a network scan from the iPhone and all Sonos speakers show up but I have to stop and restart wifi and sometimes the app to get it to connect. Please fix this. We are invested in Sonos but if it continues to annoy and disappoint I will have to get a working solution..Version: 8.2.2

The worst software I’ve used for a speaker ever!Is everyone over there at sonos huffing glue? Tryin rearrange rooms quick, connect to a different network or god forbid to unplug your internet for a second! Every time i use this app i have to try to figure it out all over again and it usually makes me mad. All of my sonos products are for sale if i dont blast them with a shotgun before the weekend.Version: 11.5

Please bring back the old app!Sonos what have you done?! Are you actually reading the reviews of your customers on this dreadful, god awful "update" to your app?? Your speakers aren't cheap so you can guarantee that people writing reviews here have spent a lot of their hard earned money on them and we want is an app that works! Pretty much like the app that we used to use, not this useless, non-intuitive, slow, poorly designed excuse of an "app". It's honestly useless. Since installing it I'm continuously losing speakers, it takes ages for the ones that still work to respond and I've lost all my favourites! The app doesn't even let me add them all back in. If I bought my Sonos speakers now and had to deal with this rubbish app I'd be taking the speakers straight back to the shop. The only saving grace is that the desktop app still works perfectly but that doesn't stop the continuous frustration I have with this steaming pile of, well you can fill that bit in if you're even bothering to read these reviews. My advice - sack your developers and roll everything back to how it was, customers first for a change perhaps?? I honestly cannot explain to you how bad this app really is..Version: 8.2

Not impressedI have had Sonia for many many years. I am not impress.Version: 11.2.10

Great when it worksBrilliant app for Sonos system - rather than having a single phone connected through Bluetooth (as with out Bose speaker) and having to shut off Bluetooth if another person wants to use it, all family members have the app and can control the system as and when they want; queue songs up, control from a different room... However, in an area of spotty wi-fi, if our hub goes out then the music stops and there is no way of getting it back until it's reset. And then I can be playing music for a while when it starts skipping songs halfway through and connecting to others halfway down the playlist (yet when I go back to those songs it missed it plays them fine), and then suddenly the app just doesn't recognise the system at all. Rather than reboot the system (we have the surround sound with the bar, sub etc) I have to delete the app and reinstall. Works fine but have to do this every other day which gets REALLY tedious..Version: 8.2.1

Difficult to impossible to play podcasts now.It works well, except for the odd update issue when the app won’t sync with the wifi correctly. A lot of windows to navigate between. I’m really disappointed that I can’t play podcasts now. I have tried to save files differently to play them but still can’t access them through SONOS. Please fix this!! I am thinking of defecting for this reason. Don’t make it difficult to play podcasts. People don’t have time or energy to faff about with it..Version: 10.6.2

Latest Update messed up my speakersWhatever you did.... undo! The app update knocked out most of my speakers including my surround sound The app is hit and miss as to weather or not it picks up rooms Had my system for a year (playbase, three Sonos Ones,Sonos 3, and a subwoofer) and love it, normally But this latest update was amateur hour....Version: 9.3

Very poor eng’gI was a very early adopter of Sonos. Spent over 2k in products. Then they did an update, was no longer able to stream directly from my iPhone..Version: 11.4.1

This used to be good but now...Just uninstalled/reinstalled this app on my iPad Pro again. Why you might ask? Answer: to get it working again. Prior to this the app just presented me with a black screen saying “searching for your Sonos system on your Wi-Fi” and then offered me the comforting advice “you need to add one or more speakers” to get started with music! I’m not aware of anything changing since the last time I used the app so why should its suddenly lose knowledge of my bridge/ connect and speakers? The previous update to this app several weeks ago caused me huge problems and I had to set up the system again as if from new. I just checked and the app behaves just the same on my iPhone 7+, so no doubt I’ll be reinstalling that next. The really bizarre thing is this: all the while I’ve been doing this and writing this review I’ve been listening to music from my Sonos system because this app is working just fine on my old retina-iPad which I keep just to run this app! Hey Sonos, I used to tell my friends about how rock-solid using your products was (a few even went out and bought Sonos gear). I don’t do that anymore..Version: 9.2

FrustratingFinding music is really frustrating. It was much easier to see a line of CDs organised by genre or gender or whatever and see what I want or something I’d forgotten about. Your meta data is incredibly frustrating!.Version: 11.0

I feel totally connedI feel totally conned by Sonos. I’ve spent THOUSANDS of dollars on speakers. There have always been issues with songs cutting off when played from iOS devices. Despite changing wifi frequencies I never managed to resolve this. It’s a common problem. I lived with it. Now we are advised we will no longer be able to play music from iOS devices. Um ... really ? So I have to pay for a steaming service and can’t play my own owned music unless I use a desktop ? Hardly moving forward. I also have some older speakers and some newer ones. The older ones are now just a glorified radio. What a con. What a waste of money. I’m moving to Bose. Avoid Sonos at all costs..Version: 10.3.2

Lip sinkOver a period of 1-2 hours you notice that the sound out of the speaker slowly becomes delayed to the point it can be out by half-1 second to what is on the tv. Have to turn the tv off to reset the sound to the same time as what’s showing on the tv.Version: 10.4.1

Love the speakers, but the app is terribleFor a system with such slick hardware that I love, the app is a continual disappointment. It has really gone backwards in the last two years. 1. Constantly demanding updates, often preventing the playing of music until updated. 2. Navigation/menu system. Too many taps to just get a song going 3. No control from lock screen. Have to unlock phone, swipe to page with app, open app just to control volume. Frustrating that this basic functionality which existed when I bought the speakers is no longer available. 4. Playlist songs and albums frequently stop being available - this is possibly a fault of Apple Music, but there’s no warning and it means deleting and re-adding music to favourites..Version: 10.3.3

Sonos makes their App more difficult to use with each updateI used to be a fan, however the latest revisions resulted in a non-intuitive, difficult-to-use app that frustrates me every time I open it. Many of the features present in the PC and Mac Interface are simply not available in the IPAD App. In both the PC and Mac Interface, one can no longer add Pandora Stations to the list of stations - they must go into “SONOS Favorites” instead. Context-sensitive features that used to be available via the “...” link on each page have now been moved to other non-intuitive parts of the tool, or have disappeared completely. Major podcasts with hundreds of thousands or even millions of users are not available through the Sonos search feature, and they’ve been added to the “My Radio Shows” section, which is somehow confusingly distinct from the “Podcasts” section. Sonos, you had something that worked pretty well before. May I request in all seriousness that you go back to the drawing board and earnestly begin work on a rebuild, based on actual users and user groups, and flush this current version down the toilet as soon as possible?.Version: 10.0

Playback stops regularly using XsWorked perfectly for the last 5 years but since changing to iPhone XS from it has never worked well when playing from ‘this device’. Have tried different wifi channels, disabled bluetooth, updated everything, don’t use Airplay anywhere in the house but still can’t play a full 3 minute track without interruption. Still works perfectly on the old iPhone 5, which is why 3 stars, with the same 10.0.1 version controller Please fix the latest update for the Xs.Version: 10.0.1

Kids in charge but not the customerOnce again we have a product that makes great sounds - but the software is woeful - I write this after switching off my 'control phone' I could shoot it or drown it, but Sonos keeps playing track after track - the only way to stop the noise is to unplug all the sonos speakers as they think I want to hear music 24/7 and I don't have a job or business to run. Google 'thinks' it knows your habits, sonos 'thinks' it knows your next song choice (and refuses to be silenced like a teenage child) one day someone like Mr Musk will just explain the principles of intelligence - it's not knowledge, it's being creative. And Sonos your software is not fit for purpose. The idea of signing in to my own hifi to play music is a pathetic barrier - it's my house and my system ~ if your speakers can be easily hacked and keep me awake requiring a password for my stereo, then pack your self into a compact vessel and book a flight on space x, for permanent disposal..Version: 8.1.1

Poor integrationI really like the idea behind Sonos but after having the system for a few years I am beginning to regret my decision. With a wired system it just plays and you don't have to worry about wireless connection issues etc. With the Sonos system there is always something that isn't working. Some days it will be connecting to the network and other days some of the speakers drop out and on other days everything works well. Continued trouble shooting is a pain. You also can play music videos with the system because of a built in delay which means voice and video are out of sync. The app is also poorly set out and does not integrate well with other app such as iTunes so on the whole not great..Version: 7.4

Performance and stability degradationEnjoyed Sonos at first, but over the years have seen a steady decline in system performance (time to load and change songs) and stability (app crashes, volume function not working and inconsistent states)..Version: 10.0.3

Less than 1 starI would never buy a Sonos system ever again. The trouble you constantly face and it’s a very frustrating one is that it’s connectivity is hugely unreliable. If the kids have fiddled with the router or extender the Sonos system always needs to be reset and this doesn’t always work as most of the time there is some glitch saying the speaker can’t be found or the network can’t be found. It’s incredibly frustrating and half the time it lies idle due to connection problems. Bring back the wired system anyday, at least there 100% reliable, with Sonos you’ll end up bald tearing your hair out most of the time.Version: 10.0.3

They have totally screwed this appThe last update added the functionality to connect third party devices. The problem is that adding that functionality removed the ability to control the volume using the external volume controls on the iPhone. Of course, no one told me I was making that trade off before the update or I wouldn’t have updated. HERE’S WHAT’S WORSE: while playing songs from the music app, it skips to the next song before finishing the one that’s playing. Tech support via Twitter was no help and referred me to the 800 number. I waited on hold for over 30 minutes on three different occasions. Finally, I spoke with a tech who tested the response times of all the devices on my network. Conclusion: my iPhone isn’t responding quickly enough. Solution: use the iPad. He told me that I could start music playing on my iPad and then use my iPhone as a controller. However, when I do that, the skipping returns. So, the net is that the update made things worse, tech support was difficult to reach, and nothing has been fixed. If this was just a matter of switching to a new service, I’d do it in a heartbeat. But, I have a healthy sum of money invested in Sonos hardware. Not so easy to make the switch..Version: 9.0

Long time ownerDisappointed to say the least. The last S1 software update has bricked nine devices. Currently we have one new generation device that works. Following the help section & restarting all devices on a existing system was fruitless. Setting up a new system is our next step, which has been done twice before & I’m too frustrated for that again. Such a pain for the money spent..Version: 11.2.4

Hardware good; company poorThe Sonos speakers have a very good sound for the money. But this S1 app represents everything wrong with a company turned sour. As a company Sonos has gone downhill from its promising start, once it realized that vast money can be made from data mining — surveillance capitalism. Within a year of buying a Sonos Five, Sonos made that speaker legacy. Why? The answer is surveillance capitalism. With the new speaker and new app, customers can use Alexa or Google Assistant, which data mine who you are and Sonos makes money. Again, the new speakers and software offer Sonos radio, which again is a monetary rip off because it sells ads and you cannot advance past unwanted songs. None of these features were demanded by customers, but they allow Sonos to make more money. Finally, not to be overlooked, is the now horrible customer service, which consists of getting somebody who knows nothing about the product and reads off a prompt from a screen. (One day I wasted an hour with a service rep insisting that I needed second-tier help, while she angrily insisted that I would be told nothing that she had not said. Just as I thought, she was the wrong and advanced technical help solved the problem in under 10 minutes.) What once was a terrific customer oriented company had become bloated and utterly money oriented..Version: 11.4.1

Hate that I need separate appsLove the speakers, hate that I need two apps after literally spending thousands of dollars to outfit my house over time as I could afford it..Version: 11.2.9

Good but not greatWhat happened to Control4 integration? The lack of singular app control for our home is very frustrating, Sonos think they are too important to play well with others..Version: 8.5.2

Wont connectIt won’t connect anymore. Going throw this entire system in the garbage! Glad I spent $3600 only for it be Obsolete in 5 years! Never buy Sonos as soon a sales drop they upgrade equipment and discontinue products and stop supporting it. Nothing like a company that is concerned about the customers, reputation and environment!.Version: 11.2.4

Used to be amazing...But since they stopped supporting the older speakers and released the new app for the newer speakers it’s become incredibly laggy and has frequent trouble connecting to the speakers. I find it interesting that the app got terrible almost the second they announced they were launching the new one. Almost like they’re intentionally making the old speakers unusable so you have to upgrade. The truth is the old speakers are still great so there’s no real need to upgrade unless you want the new features. That’s fine, but I don’t need the new features and I begrudge that they’ve made an app that used to work perfectly now work terribly. If, like me you’ve invested in the system I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect Sonos to keep that system working properly, especially as the speakers are only a few years old. Love the speakers and used to love the app. Disappointed that they value their customer base so little..Version: 11.2.3

No longer worth the moneyI hate that they force you to upgrade. In the past I have been forced to upgrade when things were working well and after the upgrade they didn’t work well. Make it optional, don't force people to do it. I can no longer listen to the podcasts on my iPhone. It seems brutal that they took away the ability to access content on your phone except if you buy newer versions of the speakers..Version: 10.4.2

Constant frustrationFor many years Sonos used to be the best thing I ever owned, 5 stars, which I would always recommend to my friends. These days am I too embarrassed to show it off when people come round because most of the time it fails to start and so I then spend half an hour turning the wifi on and off, resetting the system, updating, reloading, unplugging the wifi, in a vain effort to restart it. Then, after finally getting it working, it will fail again after 5 minutes "unable to play...". It is unbelievably frustrating and not to be relied upon. I just want to turn it on and press play, so most of the time I end up playing a CD! I don't have this problem with any of my other wifi devices, they all work perfectly, I even have a bridge but that doesn't help. Sonos, I've spent a lot of money on this system, please get back to basics and make it work like it used to, instead of constantly redesigning it. Otherwise I'll have to switch to a system that works. It's the only thing you do - so do it right!.Version: 8.5.2

BrutalI have to listen to ads before public radio plays. Dirty pool sonos. Greedy..Version: 11.2.4

Frustrating!!First of all - I love my sonos speakers. I mean, they cost me over £700 of my hard earned cash so I’d be really stupid not to. Except... I basically have £700 black ornaments sitting silently on my shelves. Unusable due to the awful app. It can’t find them..oh wait..there they are! You want to play this track?..ok..you can have 7 seconds of it and.. lets play this one now!...oh, we can’t find your speakers...etc etc on it goes. I’ve just updated it, in the hopes they had sorted the problems of late. Nope. Half way through the first track it stopped and refused to even entertain the notion of even attempting to play another. Is this the improvement? Seriously giving up now. Further to this earlier comment - had the update installed for a couple of hours now and it’s even WORSE than previously! Won’t even get 20 seconds into the first song and then stops completely. On both iPhone and iPad. I would really appreciate some comment back from Sonos about this..Version: 10.0

New interface for iPhone app is a step backwardsI'm a big fan of the sonos system, and have the speakers set up in 4 rooms. The sound is more than adequate. The ability to zone different tunes across the house or switch to party mode is fantastic. However, the latest version of the iPhone app (v8) is far less user friendly than the previous version. Gone is the intuitive interface. Oversized icons results in only 2 icons being visible on screen at a time, resulting in annoying left to right scrolling when trying to browse through playlists and radio stations. Hopefully sonos bring back the "sonos favourites" in the future iPhone app updates..Version: 8.0

Not goodConstantly crash. Im started to think that they inserted some stuff im the code to make the app crash so much…and force u to “upgrade” so sonos 2.Version: 11.6.2

Hate that you have to connect to Sonos server to do anythingThere’s nothing more annoying than getting excited when your new pair of ones arrive, and the. When you try to add it to your existing beam and sub, you somehow need to sign in your account for some reason. For what!?? And if you’re going to do online integration for everything, the least you can do is have a reliable server and connections. My internet is fine, I’ve test it over and over with login to other sites via browsers, trying other apps. However despite my best efforts, when I tried the add speakers function, it gets stuck in a loading cycle for 5 mins. After rebooting my phone and trying again, I can finally get to a login page, which when I try to login, repeatedly prompt me to check my connections. My connections are fine Sonos, maybe check yours instead???? Seriously, a $1500 system all in and I can’t even set up a stupid 5.1 system without jumping through loops. GET IT FIXED! December 12, 2019. Seriously regret buying Sonos. I need a reliable speaker system, not whatever experiments you’re doing with your wireless network crap. Anyone reading this, just buy Bose and get it over with. I will not buy another sonos system again, and will probably sell mine. This is bs.Version: 10.6

SonosCan be a great set up but also limited. Unable to pair front speakers to a play bar is a drawback when trying to achieve full surround sound. Also not supporting playback of music stored on your device anymore makes little sense..Version: 10.5.2

Great hardware. Poor software. The title pretty much says it all. I’ve had Sonos for a few years and I love the speakers. For their size they put out a very good quality sound. The fact you can have several different speakers in different rooms playing the same song at the same time wasn’t possible with Bluetooth speakers when I was looking around. Where this system falls down, is the controller. The interaction between mobile device and router means you are constantly troubleshooting some sort of problem. Most annoying is it constantly skipping songs and Sonos’ answer? Check your hardware. Funny, I’ve never had problems with my hardware before. Might as well go back to listening to scratched up cd’s..Version: 10.3.1

Stupid productShould simply connect with bluetooth and play but the product is stupid. Developer should use it in his/her wedding 👍🤌.Version: 11.4.1

Seriously Sonos, sort your app out!!!!I have the Beam and One speakers, Beam in the Living Room and One in the bedroom. Only had them a few months and the sound quality is great. However, my 1 star is purely for the app which you’ll lose hair over. Unfortunately, when I’ve unplugged from the mains when I’ve gone on holiday, or my internet has had a glitch, there’s always one speaker which refuses to be found, first it was the One a few months back, then it’s the Beam. The app is about as much use a chocolate fire guard using its “Find missing product” option. You’ll spend hours tearing your hair out trying to get the speaker to reconnect to your network. It even tells you it’s created its own network you need to connect to, no idea where this network is as it’s not on my list of WiFi connections! This should be a simple process to reconnect a speaker, I’m sat right in front of it and your app can not find it. I’ll spend hours trying to reconnect and the most frustrating part? You’ll wake up the next day and it’ll find it in an instant, but only when you’ve spent hours the day before threatening to throw it out of the window. Loads of people seem to have had this issue for years, yet Sonos don’t seem to have come up with a solution. Today, the app cannot connect to any of my speakers, despite the tv sound coming through the Beam, so it’s obviously connected! Seriously, SONOS, you charge enough for your speakers, at least develop an app capable of working them!.Version: 11.1

Used to be good. Now useless.Okay, so now you’re forcing me to create an account, use a terrible UI and making a worse product. At what point do my expensive Sonos controllers become a brick. Well, I won’t be buying any more hardware from you guys..Version: 9.1

Poor continuitySonos changes versions frequently so bridging to my stereo is not simple and trouble free. Changing the OS version on my Mac computer also destroyed connectivity with no straightforward way to fix it. Earlier versions were more stable and had better playlist functionality.Version: 9.0

Great sound. Terrible systemIve had these Sonos speakers for over a year now. They sound great when They work. However, because they work over wifi only, i’m often left without sound. I also, can’t use them like other computer attach speakers. So i have to have a completely separate set of speakers if i want to play other sounds besides music/spotify/itunes. When i do play music the Sonos never works 100% of the time. Often not finding my music library or cutting out. I really dont enjoy the Sonos experience and am trying to sell my speakers..Version: 10.6.2

Great When It WorksWe put Sonos in our new construction home three years ago, and while the concept is fantastic, we’ve had several issues in the three years since it’s installation. The two most frustrating issues have been: 1) It does not sync perfectly with the music library on the device from which you’re operating it from; for example, I tend to use my iPad Pro with my ENTIRE music library on the device in iTunes, yet there are several songs that cannot be found through the Sonos app, and after spending several hours and multiple calls to Sonos tech support they blame iTunes and threw their hands up. The music is clearly on my device yet the Sonos app can’t “see” all of the music “on this device”, very frustrating! 2) Often when we go to use the Sonos app on any of our devices (2 iPhones and 1 iPad) it cannot connect to the network and will not come up on the device, suggesting that you reboot the router. This is a hassle and inconvenience, and it happens about 50% of the time. Overall, love the concept and it’s great WHEN it works, but it’s quirks and functionality have made me question whether it was truly worth the investment we made when there are so many Bluetooth devices and streaming services available on the market..Version: 9.0

Love Sonos...not Crazy about the appI have had Sonos since it was first introduced. Initial the App was easy to use and straight forward. With each update and added functionality it has gotten more confusing and less intuitive. My poor wife doesn’t even like using it anymore..... the app is packed with options, but for everyday use it is a pain. Unless you have something saved in your shortcuts, you have to rethink how to select and find music channels that I want. I consider myself somewhat technology literate and find myself pausing trying to figure out how to do things. For people who are confused easily by technology this app will drive you crazy. I know .... I hear from my wife all the time. I think Sonos needs to use the KISS methodology (keep it simple stupid ) and redesign this app and let the average person test it and not a bunch of engineers. I wish I could rate the Sonos speakers and system separately because I would give it five stars. The app needs to be easier to use for basic functionality for the technically challenge. If you make it easier to use....my wife might let me buy another speaker….Version: 9.3.1

FORGET ABOUT USING YOUR IPHONEI jumped on the Sonos bandwagon back in 2013 because, at the time, the sound quality of their sound bar was better than anything I auditioned. Adding on their subwoofer and Play 3 speakers got as close to my $$$ B&W THX system as I could find. And the fact I could stream my ever growing music library from my iPhone put me over the moon. But in the last year, the honeymoon came to an end. Somewhere in the all too frequent annoying deluge of upgrades they shove at you, playback from my iPhone became problematic with frequent skips (reminiscent of my vinyl days) and queues that stop playing. After contacting Sonos they provided a work around (turn off the auto off feature on your iPhone) that worked for awhile. Now they’re removing the playback feature from your iPhone and have proposed some other (more complicated) work arounds which have so far proved unsatisfactory (their desktop controller failed to incorporate my entire music library). My question is with all the apps being developed for an iPhone and iOS, why can’t Sonos get their $&@ act together and get something that’s simple and works flawlessly. You’ll find my Sonos soundbar, subwoofer, Play 3’s (x2), bridge, Sonos connect and connect:amp in the trash. I’m done! HEOS here I come..Version: 10.3

Sonos s1 no longer works and Sonos don’t careI spent about $15k 8 years ago wiring my new-build home and it worked fine until s2 arrived. Nothing has changed from my end other than the updates but the playablity of the s1 steadily got more difficult. Now the s1 system has given up entirely. It won’t connect and the app sends me ‘round in circles trying to get me set up again. I have a bunch of photos and screenshots proving I’m doing it correctly but I won’t bore you with them. Suffice to say I refuse to pay twice by buying the s2 system - why would I knowing it could be rendered obsolete like the s1 once Sonos decide to launch an s3?.Version: 11.2.10

Bit LumpyWe have some heritage Amp style Sonos units which limit us to Sonos-1. The need to replace the units is frustrating especially since they’re not cheap and having paid for good quality gear; And the upgrade / replacement supposed deal Sonos offers gives little acknowledgement to the investment already made and is expensive. The Sonos-1 app is functional enough but it can take a while to do things especially with the interface with Tuned-In. Have also been unable to get the app to work on the Mac..Version: 11.2.9

Use to be Amazing now it is Garbage.I have thousands of dollars worth of Sonos equipment that has turned into pile of junk because now all of a sudden things don’t work the way they use to. App is constantly loosing connection. When you change songs there is a unbelievable amount of latency now. Many times songs don’t play. They will literally go bankrupt if they don’t fix this pronto. This is their bread and butter. I even bought the latest Sonos amp, I have two play:5s with Subwoofer. I have playbar and 2 Sonos 1 in 5.1 setup with sub. I have two Sonos play:1 in bedroom. I am panicking because I have several holiday parties scheduled at my house and I am completely dependent on Sonos system. I could easily play any music I wanted from any service and I bragged about Sonos a lot. Now I am going to have to eat my words and afraid my parties are going to be ruined. My home is laterally Sonos showroom and it is definitely going to do unrepairable damage to their reputation and ruin my holiday parties. Worst part is their customer support is non existent. I called in there was an over an hour wait. Now they are closed on weekend. They make y’all claims about 24/7 support don’t believe any of that. They ask you to post in their forums and hope someone like a power user replies..Version: 9.3.1

New interface is a beta and not fully functional!Love my Sonos, and the old app was okay but always hard to find your music source apart from the ones you saved as favourites but only being able to save a few items was an unnecessary limitation. The new app looked promising, especially the My Sonos feature, but unfortunately it lists only one item in each category, things I’ve not listened to in ages and am not interested in having listed and I can not find a way of adding new items! For example, I’m listening to Angus and Julia Stone Album, I like it and want to add it to my Sonos list. No functionality is available to do this! I’ve searched under all the different things I can find, three dots no, touch the album cover no, swipes up, down, left and right no! Very frustrating interface and really doesn’t feel like it’s been tested on users. Come on Sonos, your hardware is the best in the industry, your app is pants!.Version: 8.1.1

Poor quality move portable speakerI bought the move speaker was in he worst experience I ever had in potable Bluetooth or wireless speakers. The battery level went to zero even when the speaker waa totally switched off. I called Sonos fir support and fir the last 2 months still testing it remotely . Every time you call them they came with different test scenario . Very disappointed if the poor quality of portable move speaker and even more disappointed with Sonos technical support . I paid $640 for it but you know I should go back to Bose where I have them in use for 20 years and I even never I had to call them..Version: 11.2.3

Not happyThe latest versions don’t allow you to play music you have on you iPhone. Now you have to upload your music to a steaming service and pay 9.99 a month to play music you already bought..Version: 10.4.2

SonosWhen I first bought my Sonos I thought it was the best thing until approximately 3 years after I purchased it and Sonos was using planned obsolescence well I had bought just over 8 speakers which was extremely expensive but when I woke up that morning. I thought it was a another Sonos day running around reconnecting everything only to realize I was going to be last for a customer who in turn was experiencing the exact same problem turns out that morning Sonos purposely disabled (bricked {industry term}) all speakers that were purchased 3 years earlier and then started a sale that offered you 10% off your new purchase of another Sonos speaker (which by the way was up 20% ) the idea of a speaker and even the software allowed you to play from Alexa Siri and even Google but more importantly from your phone even computer but after the Sonos obsolescence only option there was is the Sonos radio station, it’s connectivity is great too bad the reliability is down right criminal as this would be like buying a car and the dealership saying after 3 years your car doesn’t work we will give you 10% off your next purchase if you buy another one from us for three years personally Sonos can screw itself after spending $$$$$ to not have anything left that works I started buying UE Boom and Bose to replace my Sonos systems. Friken garbage thieves for the price you pay.Version: 11.3

Google HomeThe connectivity with Google Home is horrible. Sonos must have rushed the Google Home connectivity to market....it doesn’t work. Very poorly executed..Version: 10.2.3

Unsupported app with adsAds are invasive. App is no longer supported..Version: 11.2.3

Too many updates and over again even moreCan you leave things alone for a little while it is ridiculous how many updates are happening!!! I am sick of the updates!!!.Version: 10.2.3

Ads?So I over pay for a speaker system, then this company will just brick your devices at will and claim it some how helps the environment. Now I have F#*!ing ads being pushed on to my app when I want to listen to music!! Cause I guess I didn’t pay enough money to this amazingly junky company!!! I can not get away from this company fast enough. 0 out of 5 is my true rating. If you are just starting with Sonos you should get your money back, and leave this company. You will truly be better off. *update* Enough F#*!ing ads!!! Oh and let me delete your junk radio station!!! Run away from this garbage!!.Version: 11.2.4

Poor redesign for Alarms screenIn Version 10.4, the screens under the existing 'More' option have been redesigned and replaced by a new set of screens renamed 'Settings'. The Alarms screen has now been buried down a level under a 'System' sub-menu, is now quite laggy and waste a huge amount of screen space so that you have to scroll to see everything. Ironically the selection buttons are now smaller. Compared to the old it's harder and more time consuming to find, and more difficult to use, especially if you have a disability. Sonos justify the change saying that Alarms are set and forget (they are not for those of us who use them as an alarm clock). Brilliant speaker system let down by some poor app redesign decisions which take away the joy of using the system and make it less accessible..Version: 10.4

Sonos continues to disappointCumbersome software. Problems using S1 system that never seem to end. An investment in products down the drain. A stock market manipulation..Version: 11.2.3

Not impressed.Rarely connects and always drops out. Very frustrating system. Have tried reloading in fact reload the app everyone I use it. Try reconnecting etc. Not easy. Not simple. Super annoying..Version: 8.4

RadioSuddenly I’m not getting “Radio by Tune in” ? Why ? What else are you censoring?.Version: 11.8

SO upset & disappointedBought Sonos speakers in 2014: Playbar, Bridge, 3 Play:1s, and 1 Play:5. Absolutely fell in love immediately and was truly grateful for such reliable and incredible audio throughout the house. We use them every day. Picked up a One SL a few years ago and it has had a few issues with connectivity with our existing speakers but still great sound. My complaint is with all the newer Sonos products and the Sonos app updates—I’ve had problems with speakers randomly turning on and off for at least 2 years now and it’s pretty aggravating. I would’ve expected the Sonos team to have ironed out these bugs by now, but perhaps it’s intentional. There’s nothing wrong with my 8 year old speakers, so why is Sonos pushing me to upgrade to their newer models? I say pushing because of their campaign to get customers to return their older models and use them for a discount towards newer ones, even warning that the older system would not be supported going forward. ?? That’s such trash. I’m so disappointed. I agree with other reviewers that this is about corporate greed. Why else would a company stop supporting their fine, slightly older products and strongly recommend upgrading system components when it’s unnecessary??.Version: 11.3

DisappointedAlthough I like the idea of the system, I am disappointed with the service. Why? 1) in 2018 it was supposed to be compatible with Google home. Each time I inquired about this I was told a scripted story. I bought the system because of the compatibility. To find a couple of years later it will never happen is a waste of my money. 2) this year I found out that my I Pad mini cannot get updates to the app so now I can’t connect through my I Pad. A disappointing purchase and I won’t recommend Sonos to other people..Version: 10.2.3

Big step backwardMore than 3 years with Sonos, have Bridge, Play3 & Play5. Overall everything was fine, I was absolutely happy. Happy till the latest application's updates. Sorry guys, but that new Sonos app for iPad is just a frustrating mess in comparison with what we had before. Cute, simple, very functional and streamlined UI for some reason has been replaced with an obtuse, tangled and distoted mock of a user interface, that manages to make sick even me, who is usually quite tolerant to any kind of developer's oddities. When I see it I feel nothing but disgust, embarrassment and bewilderment. What have you done? Why, oh why?.Version: 8.2.1

Can no longer stream via WiFi from IOS Devices?!!!I LOVED Sonos and have used their Sonos bar & speakers for around 6 years now. HOWEVER, I was astounded to be warned when using it yesterday that Sonos plan to remove the facility to play music via WiFi from your iPhone and tablet!!!! We only ever use our IOS devices to play music, as I suspect most users do. The alternative is to use a streaming service (I’m sorry, I refuse to suddenly have to start subscribing and paying for a streaming service to use Sonos), use AirPlay if your Sonos is compatible (I suspect not as our speakers are 6 years old and worked perfectly well so don’t need new ones thanks!) OR stream from our Mac (which is just way less convenient, and it’s old, and I have no idea how to stream Sonos from there in any case!). All in all, gutted Sonos are doing this and if I can no longer play music via my IOS devices, I will be changing from Sonos to another system that actually appreciates their users need to stream via WiFi from IOS devices. VERY UNHAPPY SONOS and think you need to sort your systems so IOS devices can still stream via WiFi!!!.Version: 10.2.2

Please Sonos read thisWhy is the app very laggy and not overly user friendly ie the sub could be set out as a speaker rather than going through 4 menus to switch off when not needed, changing channels could be made easier and also the equaliser is ok but could be moved with the plus and minus rather than a slider bar that’s quite sensitive so going back forth till you get the number you want is somewhat annoying, The search bar is a bit old school, why not have a search for everything and different artists and songs come up? The amount of times I’ve searched an artist only to find I’m on the “song” section 😡 could be fixed very easy just refer to Apple Music . Other than that a very nice experience speakers are brilliant and it’s nice to have music “on tap” I’ve been through many sound systems over the years and Sonos is defiantly up there in the top two of it wasn’t for the rubbish iOS app. Oh and I almost forgot taking away volume control on the lock screen was a big NO NO what were you thinking! Please put it back it was very handy , I’m now having to use a third party app to control each speaker .......Version: 10.6

Miss leading information. Sonos 5Its says you can connect through wifi (home net work) but no way you can connect your smart tv using wifi. Not Conncet with apple tv.Version: 10.4.2

Speaker is fine but the app is the worstWe have an older Sonos speaker, at least 6yrs old now. When we first got it, everything worked great. But then Sonos kept updating the app - like every month a new update. The constant monthly updates were frustrating, and over time the app was glitchy and stopped working consistently. Now it just doesn’t work at all (yep, I’ve tried re-installing) so now I just have an expensive speaker that I can’t use. Comparatively, I have a 10yr old Bose system that works like a dream - not a problem for the whole time I’ve had it - just plug in my device and play my music! If you are purchasing a Sonos just be aware that Sonos relies on their app software to work, and if that stops working for you then there is very minimal support to get it going again. If you are ok to spend a lot of money every 5 years to update your speakers, then Sonos is the system for you! Otherwise, I think you can find a few better options out there..Version: 11.2.2

Used to be a great productI don’t know what they’ve done in their most recent software releases but my Sonos is now so buggy, I can barely get it to work most days. I spend all my time resetting the controller, turning my router on and off, rebooting my playbar and player One and finally reinstalling the app - just to get it to connect! All this while standing 1 metre from the Sonos and my router. Despite which I’ve had to connect it in Boost mode with an Ethernet cable just to get it to work. Every other wifi device in my house works perfectly and I get 20mbps/7mbps average speed so I don’t know why Sonos is so buggy. Used to work perfectly until about 2 months ago..Version: 8.2.2

Auto updates are a MISTAKESonos discontinued the ability to use the first remote controller they made and sold without telling anyone. All customers lost the ability to use the very expensive controllers they purchased . There is a second generation controller they made which is fabulous and still works. People can visit my home and controller the music without having to let them into my wi-fi network. I have had more than enough viruses and such from letting people use my network in the past that I simply do not allow it anymore. So the ability to have a remote hardware control device is a godsend. I am super happy with it. In fact, I bought three of them. I am seriously careful about updates and the day Sonos decides to have the 2nd generation controller not be supported, will be the day I do not do anymore updates. SO.... auto update... is not for me. And the face that they are not listing exactly what is in the updates... well...that is just lazy. Since this system works over our home network with all our other devices and computers which we bank with and do other private things with... SONOS needs to tell us what is in these updates..Version: 9.3.1

Abandoned......After thousands of dollars of investment feels like I am flapping in the wind.....a lot of unhappy customers on the line with me. The same people that helped your business get off the ground.......Version: 11.2.4

New ipad controller is awfulI wrote the original review years ago and have been so appalled by the recent update v8.2.x that i just had to update the review. what was an intuitive and easy to use interface in older versions has become progressively worse with each release culminating in v8.2.x which has to be the worst of all. it is so unecessarily fiddly and inconsistent to use that i can no longer recommend sonos to any friends colleagues or customers. if i could give this version a zero rating i would. it seems sonos designers have lost their way and just dont listen to feedback. the app has all the hallmarks of a team following an agile development approach whereby small pieces of functionality are worked on and delivered in short bursts but with little focus on the overall design and 100% completeness. original comments below relate to v4 to v5 changes, but are still applicable today to v8.2.x The updated controller app ui screen is now dominated by 5 pointlessly large icons for infrequently used functions whilst the most important element, managing the queue of what you have lined up to listen to, is pushed away to a sub screen. Features are now so hidden away and are hardly intuitive. A huge step backwards in usability from v4. Did anyone canvass feedback from real customers before fixating on this Very disappointing design. Clearly it's been designed for a phone interface rather than an ipad..Version: 8.2.1

Buggy systemI have to reboot my system before using. Every. Single. Time..Version: 11.4.1

PoorThe sound of the physical speaks are good. I have nothing good to say about their app. Connectivity Smart wise User friendly Wifi only connectivity?? Loll Yeah non of those are good. Well good for me and my uses. Unfortunately i can not recommend sonos to anyone. Not for physical quality. But for the frustration times you’ll spent dealing with the app.Version: 11.2.3

Fantastic product, lousy UXI hate to agree with another reviewer that criticized the latest update, but as a professional app developer, even I struggle with he new updated app. I have eleven Sonos products throughout my house and have been using it so long that several of my products are now obsolete. And until the controller was redesigned, I too have been a Sonos evangelist, telling anyone that would listen that they need to get rid of their stereo and get Sonos. The steps involved in performing the simplest operations now require travelling all over the app in ways that are highly non-intuitive. We have replaced our alarm clocks with Sonos units and it's a maze to turn off my daughter's alarm when school is delayed. After many, many years using the system, I now fumble and frequently put my music in the wrong room, lose queues, and struggle to get the tunes that I want. The product is great. I love having all of my music from a wide variety of sources in one place. I love being able to control music throughout my house, and yard, and workshop with one system. The sound quality is fantastic. But the new UI has to be rethought and re-redesigned..Version: 8.3.1

Would never buy againWe invested $8000 in Sonos and now we have a system which doesn’t work like it did when installed and every month we get less and less from our investment. We made the mistake of purchasing 6 portable speakers in addition to the speakers in the ceiling of several rooms. When Sonos started changing over to Sonos 2, without telling us, they made any speaker that was unplugged from the wall socket useless when plugged back in. So the speaker we had used on our back porch in the summer would not work again the following summer when plugged back into the exact same outlet. I now own a $420 door stop and no longer have music on my outdoor patio. We are scared to death of dislodging a cord on any of the other 5 speakers or the woofer or the unit hooked up to our turntable because Sonos will unilaterally decommission those too. This goes against the entire idea of “portable”. My husband can’t access his music library stored on his computer (laughably the original reason we bought Sonos in the first place) and from what I read in chat rooms about other customer experiences with this Sonos 1 versus 2 issue, I guess we should be glad we are only out 8 grand - others have lost much more..Version: 11.3

Do not purchaseThis is the worst most temperamental system I have ever used, it needs updates all the times, the smallest of things will stop it from working and trying to get the music back on is a mission! Would not recommend to anyone ever!.Version: 10.0.3

Great, but with a caveatI live my Sonos, use it every day, have done for the past year. However, there are bugs. For example I have a Sonos 5 in my dining room which performs faultlessly. In the living room I have two ones in a stereo pair configuration and when you try and sync them altogether for an extended period using tunedin radio the living room pair will drop out periodically whilst the dining room hangs in there. Then spontaneously, it too will drop out. How did I discover this phenomenon you ask? I had the good fortune to be refitting a dining and hall way wooden floor. Two days of work with only my trusty Sonos to help prop me up when I was flagging, anyone doing DIY at home will relate. To lose music intermittently is incredibly frustrating hence the three stars. I still love my Sonos, but do hope future software and firmware upgrades will resolve something that clearly needs to be fixed..Version: 9.0

First time Sonos buyerLet me start with the positive. The look, ease of use and the sound are all amazing. The bad. The Sonos speakers are big WiFi hogs. Had I read the reviews and Sonos users portal, I would not have purchased them. The speakers consistently drop out. All due to the WiFi network. I’ve been through three providers and the outcome is always the same. I’ve called Sonos and they work some magic, all works for about 15 minutes. Of course this is after I’ve hung up with support. The connectivity issue is all you find on the user portal. It is a major issue with Sonos, If you have more than on speaker. I have the surround setup and when it works, it is amazing. However the sub, play ones and occasionally the sound bar all drop off. If I had to guess, I’d say yesterday with all day Christmas music playing, the play ones and sub dropped off 10-15 times for 10-30 seconds. Sonos tells me the fix is a new router. Not the crappy ones you get with your internet provider. Thanks Sonos for the help. Once again had I known what I know now, I would have bought the Bose. It uses RF to link speakers and one speaker hooked to WiFi..Version: 9.3.1

Good tech turned badMy speaker worked great for years. Now, because they are pushing a “new”, “more expensive” speaker that I can’t afford, they cripple my perfectly good speaker. Songs stop playing half way through. Search is artificially crippled. Ads in the app all the time now. Very, very, very disappointed..Version: 11.2.3

No support for play on this device!!I find it ridiculous that after purchasing Sonos speakers, connectors and bridges the functionality to play music from iPhone, iPod, iPad etc has been supported for les that 1 year before starting to have major bugs and skip music or stop playing all together!!! 3 years later after acknowledging the bug and having totally hopeless in fixing it, now Sonos is stopping to support the functionality ro push us to subscribe to streaming or buying new speakers. Shame on you. For sale a full Sonos system!.Version: 10.2.3

Love and Hate!Could be so much better! In most cases it is a great App however it has too many frustrating network issues. The worst is dealing with it during a dinner party and everyone is watching me deal with it…. with no music at the party..Version: 11.6.2

Horrific process to change Wi-Fi settingsDon’t buy a Sonos product if you think you might ever change your router. The process to change Wi-Fi settings is an absolute nightmare..Version: 10.2.1

Latest update not greatLove the speakers, love controlling them with the app. Now the bad. The latest update made it more cumbersome. Why oh why did you move the alarm control in the latest update?!?! The former tab “more” on the far right made so much more sense than “settings” because there’s a lot more than settings under it (pun intended). Now to find the alarm function you have to go to settings->system-> and scroll way down to alarms. For someone that uses 2 of these speakers as morning alarms for my kids and frequently turns the alarms on or off and makes adjustments this is SUCH A HASSLE. After the update I struggled to find the alarm in the first place because it’s so NOT intuitive. Initially I thought the alarm control was deleted. The Alarm control is a major feature for many people using these speakers and it should be in an intuitive and convenient location. Please move the Alarm control back to an easily accessed place that doesn’t require several taps and scrolling down to find it! And IMO “More” as a menu title was more accurate of a descriptor and way better sounding than “Settings”..Version: 10.4

Terrible connectivityHad my Sonos for years and have very poor experiences connecting to it on a day to day basis. I have had to change wifi on occasions, and I would describe this as the most frustrating experience I have had with any device that is managed via an app. I wish I could share a picture ... my phone with app saying it can’t find device while phone is sitting on top of device. I would never buy Sonos again..Version: 11.0

Doesn’t allow multiple devices to managePoor changing between different devices. We are a household of two, if one person is connected and using the Sonos app on their phone, the other person can’t turn music up, down or change without disconnecting and reconnecting to their Sonos app. This then makes them the main controller of the apps connected to the household wifi… well until the other person does the same thing! Crazy when it has different room capability..Version: 11.6.1

New App Version Ensures Your Speaker Cannot Be FoundI just updated the app again, only to find in doing so the speaker can no longer be found. There is no fix to this through the app. No matter what instructions I follow, it will not find my speaker. Not related at all to the wifi..Version: 11.0

Great speakers, terrible softwareThe sound depth and quality on Sonos speakers is superb - with a surround setup it’s just like being at the cinema. Sonos technical support is decent; quite responsive and helpful. Sonos software is appalling: not intuitive and full of bugs. When it works, you just have to dig through too many menus. However, often times it will randomly cut out during songs, tell you that half an album can’t be played because it’s in the wrong library, or simply fail to show an album at all. Given the high price of the speakers, this is unacceptable - please sort it out Sonos developers; you’re letting yourselves down on what is otherwise an outstanding product. UPDATE: the developers continue to amaze us all. They have just betrayed a great many customers who have already spent loads of money on their products by forcing them into subscription music services, thereby making them spend even more. To make matters worse, having done so, the functionality does not support streaming from Apple Music unless what you want to play is already in your library (oh, the irony!), the app does not support Audible, and they’ve removed the alphabet slider, so when you do want to play something in your library you have to scroll through for ages to find it. When will the software guys at Sonos start emulating the hardware guys in their company? It’s so annoying that such great speakers continue to be let down by such terrible UX....Version: 10.3

So annoying to connectI don’t understand why it’s so hard to reconnect to a new router or wifi of your choosing. The most insane setup. Wish I’d bought something else far more user friendly.Version: 11.2.13

Awful software, can no longer use speaker.Really angry and disappointed! Loved my Sonos speaker. Used it to play my vast music collection (off bought CDs mostly) stored on my iMac computer. And used with iPhone. Wonderful.... Then the stupid upgrades came.... since then the system could not find the speaker. Even when plugged in, right there!. Spent HOURS troubleshooting, following help steps, getting advice and suggestions, in forums, reconfiguring modem..... no luck. Useless!! Frustrating !!! Waste of money on an expensive speaker. Then with next update users found you could not run off a desktop computer, off phone app only. Many angry comments appeared on the forums.... Inconvenient backward step for what used to be sensible office set up. .... Still , for me, no luck connecting though. Now I believe one cannot play music stored on computer/ phone at all!! Why???? Sonos has lost the plot and keep losing it! Sonos is to be boycotted and avoided at all costs! So many loyal users let down. But they don’t seem to read the many user forums, or care. Stupid Sonos!!! Avoid. Buy something else..Version: 11.2.2

Keeps prompting me to use Sonos 2Cannot get to the S1 app because it is constantly trying to get me to upgrade to S2 and there is no way to dismiss the message. I only have older models so I can’t use the S2 app..Version: 11.11

It’s just... Okay (in app music searches kills the score)Listen, you’re shoehorned into using this app; regardless of whether you like it or not. That’s the price we pay I guess, for the luxury of having some of the best sounding speakers on the market. This app has multiple functions beyond just controlling your music. It’s also the tool used for calibrating your speakers and adding new ones to the ecosystem. It handles these tasks fairly well. When it comes to navigating your music, it’s just... okay. I can fairly simply choose to play different music in different rooms, which is cool. However I noticed I regularly just end up using AirPlay instead of the app; all because the search functionality is just awful. I could go into iOS music app, search for an artist, and be delivered literally everything I want from that artist. If I do the same in this Sonos app, I often scroll until I get so frustrated not being a old to find a song or album I want that I just end up going back to AirPlay again through the iOS music app. Same frustrations go for every style of search, be it album, song, playlist... the Sonos app very rarely offers me the music I want to hear from a simple search..Version: 10.6.2

Version 9.2Some years ago I was a hugh fan of Sonos and promoting its great sound and super ease of function albeit at not a cheap price. Over the years I deeply regret those people I promoted it to. I wish to apologise to them. In the early days I was right. Now it has turned into a IT nightmare, with rushed versions with complexity and numerous bugs. What was a super simple and brilliant system is now your worst nightmare. Spend loads of money and waste time trying to get the dam thing to work. Some versions deleted your whole system requiring you to readd your speakers one by one. Some versions deleted all your play lists requiring you to relist them. The latest version has deleted the add new speaker and individual speaker controls. Is this for the rush to incorporate amazons speaking fool? Don't touch Sonos please it's a load of c..p.If you are looking for support we can only reply to you not within 24 hours but much later as we are having lots of calls! Really? Right first time and check and check again fools.Version: 9.2

Ease of Use = Intuitive NavigationI hate this app so much. But I give 3 stars instead of 2 because they finally added alphabetical search to artists, albums and songs. I’m still baffled at how the overall rating is so high. The primary function of this app should be to both easily access your library of music and play it! That is not happening. Examples: 1. I add the songs from my Apple Recently Added playlist to “My Sonos” for alleged easy access. But I don’t have the option to play the music as a playlist. Navigation is My Sonos> (Recently Added) Record Cover>Play. It should be My Sonos> Recently Added> (Option to) Play or Shuffle. Compilations should also be treated like a playlist. Where’s the convenience in navigating back to a list to play each song? Why do I have to add each song to a Sonos Playlist when it already exists as a list?!? 2. I get a 1002 error message anytime I select “play” from my Apple/My Music/Songs list or directly click on a song from that list. To avoid that last error scenario I have to click on the dotted menu option beside the song title and select play now/play next/replace queue/etc....Version: 10.6

Frustratingly ComplicatedThis is the most overly complicated speaker ever made. Every few weeks it’s disconnects and it takes hours to re-set and re-connect everything. It won’t work unless location services are turned on, it won’t without an account that you have hand over your personal details for, it won’t work unless it’s connected to the internet, it won’t stay connected for more than a week or 2 then you have to go through all the set procedures again. That’s just for 1 Basic speaker, I can’t imagine how awful this system would be with multiple speakers in different rooms. Mines going on the bin and being replaced with something like a JBL that’s sounds great, is portable and is simple and easy to use. These things are an absolute joke..Version: 11.2.8

AlarmThe recent changes have buried the alarm setting function in the menu when previously it was a one step to get there..Version: 10.5

Great hardware, frustrating softwareWe use our system about once a fortnight. About every second or third time I use it I am forced by the system to do an update or to re authorise my streaming account or reset wifi to access my network storage... it takes 10 minutes of stuffing around to play a song. Hence... we use our system about once a fortnight. I’d use it more but the messing around with tech issues takes the pleasure out of putting on a song to listen to. Pity. Update - just downgraded to 1 star as recent app changes now render all my 5 Sonos speakers (2 x s1, s3, soundbar and zone player) useless bricks. Nothing will connect, whole system re set up also failed. So very very angry and frustrated with this company!!!.Version: 11.2.1

Unexpected DissatisfactionMy family has been a frequent costumer of Sonos, with over 5 speakers all over our house in a variety of sizes. For the past 6 years since we’ve gotten our first speaker, the sound bar, we have been very pleased with our (expensive, yet) great quality speakers. They will cut out every now and then, most noticeable during movies, but that was only a slight annoyance compared to what we are dealing with now. Perhaps it is part of a new update (we have the latest version, so the app being outdated should not be an issue), or simply the app crashing, meaning it will be back up and running within a week hopefully. But, since this morning, Sonos has let us down. An overall irritation, disappointment, and not what we paid for! The speakers (rooms) have been unable to group, and some speakers are silent, despite the loud volume it is set on (they are also all plugged in). We could select a song or artist or radio to play, but the speaker will simply not react whatsoever. Being a loyal patron of Sonos, my family and I are frustrated and hope this issue is resolved quickly, especially with the holidays. But to those interested in purchasing one or more Sonos speakers, they have overall been a great investment for our family. We have been spoiled with these great speakers scattered around the house, making it so that when they suddenly fail to do what they are supposed to, it is especially aggravating..Version: 9.3.1

DisappointingA Sonos 1 speaker cost me more than a week’s pension, and it just doesn’t do what it’s supposed to. Just Google “Sonos dropouts “ or similar and you’ll see that it’s been a problem for years- sudden lack of sound just when you want to hear something. Their troubleshooting solutions include changing the channel on your modem, or changing its IP address, for heavens sake. NO Sonos, just get your software right. It’s rubbish at the moment. When the sound does connect, it’s great, which is why you get two stars. Neither is for reliability..Version: 9.2

Sonos One with AlexaI have loved my Sonos however now adding Sonos One player to my group opens up all sorts of problems, Alexa dies not recognise my NewZealand favourite radio stations on Myheart or tuned in, plus Skexa does not work with my Apple Music in my computer!! Frustrating!.Version: 9.1

It used to workThis app seemed to work well for a year and a half. Now suddenly it doesn’t recognize the speakers. I follow the steps on the app to connect them. It tells me they are connected, then brings me back to the same pre-connection screen. Then I do it all again… it’s Groundhog Day and I’ve given up hope of ever listening to music on these speakers again. Thanks for the landfill and soon-to-be-deleted app..Version: 11.2.10

Used to be great but not anymoreThe Sonos system used to be great but the latest updates have totally screwed my system. Although my ZP100 is wired, streaming radio drops out all the time when it never did before. The volume sometimes goes to zero, no input required. I haven’t been able to access the music library on my home server for years even though every other system in my house can access it. And now they’re going to disable the Sonos remote that I own because apparently they own it. I was a Sonos fan from the beginning but no more. Update: Sonos has lost their way. With each successive release of the software more features are removed. I used to be able to see Sonos on my lock screen and adjust the volume. No more. (Yes I’ve seen the remarks about having other audio programs open which I closed although I didn’t have to do this before.) I used to be able to open the app and adjust the volume with the hardware buttons but now they’re stupid buttons and need to be pressed multiple times before they recognize they’ve been pressed. Changing rooms, overly complicated now. If you’re on the fence about buying a Sonos system I recommend that you don’t do it. What was once the best sound system available, bar none, is now an also ran due to the way they’ve crippled their app and forced you off the physical remote which still worked perfectly..Version: 9.0

Love the hardware, hate the software!Over the last few years I've invested in multiple Sonos products, mostly Play 1.. and have built several stereo pairs throughout the house. Sonos is simply amazing, offering high quality sound and super reliable playback. So I've spent a fair deal of money and the investment is well worth it. BUT - how did they decide that the latest app layout was easier or clearer to use than the original, or if it even added any value to improve the flow when selecting music? Ideally a software release having such a significant client base might be tested with real customers, and incremental small improvements added over time. However it seems that Sonos just slammed out this latest release without any thought to provide an option to turn the new behaviour on/off. Even with a background as an IT engineer I'm constantly getting lost within the interface. Please, please reconsider the layout and get rid of all of the panel swiping, and allow music selection directly from within the room/speaker screen. Finally, offering the ability to Airplay content directly from an app on an iPad/Mac to the Sonos controller would address a crucially missing functionality which is difficult to understand presently..Version: 8.2.2

GlitchesSonos often cuts out or ends a song before it’s done and skips to the next one when playing Apple Music..Version: 10.2.3

Getting worse everydayUse to be my preferred solution. If I wasn’t invested in Sonos speakers I’d dump it. Updates....usually goes into a loop of ‘needs to update’ to ‘updating’ then back to ‘needs to update’. Solution....quit Sonos app before doing the update. Deciding which hardware is compatible...using it no drama, older iPad. Apple Music still working fine, but then the Sonos team decide an update is in order. After the update...this hardware is no longer compatible. No update of OS, nothing changed by Apple, but Sonos have decided to force you to either buy new apple hardware or dump using its software. Basically, more arrogant then Apple itself. Wont buy anymore Sonos speakers, and given time, will dump the hardware I have..Version: 11.0

Stepping BackwardsI’m a massive fan of Sonos products and have a lot of them - but I hate the app. Sonos keep fiddling with it and making it less intuitive. Then the most recent ‘update’ did not recognise that I had a Beam in my family room HT set-up and just showed it as ‘?’. I had to faff around for over an hour after the update was ‘finished’ - trying to get the Beam back online. The Beam and TV are wall-mounted so this meant taking everything off the wall to reach buttons and power supply etc. Not funny Sonos. The same update did not recognise the PlayBar in my lounge HT set-up. Same issues - another ‘?’. Sonos stop fiddling with the app so frequently and de-bug properly before sending them out..Version: 10.1.1

InconsistentWe use Sonos in our office. We have four speakers over two floors. We do enjoy it when it’s working well, which is most of the time, but about once every two months we have to spend a few hours figuring out why it’s decided to stop working..Version: 8.5.2

Unstable and more than frustratingHaving spent now several thousand pounds on Sonos speakers over the past couple of years I cannot believe how unstable this system has become, constantly having to reset speakers, speakers not found, app not found, products not registered, so register then app says all products registered but won’t go any further and asks for them to be registered Come on guys you are taking a lot of money from people for these products, make it work for all.... currently at a point of ripping the whole dam lot out and selling which will lose me a lot of money but save me a lot of stress support only available Monday yo Friday office hours when strangely enough I am at work and not at home with the system.... even with a speaker connected via cable Sonos still can’t find it Think long and hard before you waste money on this system until they sort it out once and for all.Version: 10.6

Great when it works....We love our Sonos Beam it is the perfect size for our ‘corner tv unit’ most other sound bars were too long, we liked the option to add other speakers if required to create a ‘surround sound’ (the sound bar was replacing an old surround sound system) and we liked the idea of a ‘smart speaker’ (as we didn’t already have one). So for 3 months it worked great, then 3 months everything worked apart from the ‘smart speaker bit’ and after hours on messenger to Sonos it still didn’t work :( then a couple of weeks later the app couldn’t even find the ‘Beam’ .... so I had planned to spend the next day trying to sort it, but all of a sudden it was all back working again... I see there is another app update available.... but to be fair as it’s all now working perfectly.... I frightened to do the update in case it messes it up again.... as I still have no idea what caused the problem 3 months ago, or what happened earlier this week to fix it....!.Version: 10.5.1

Feature removal - spammingI don’t like it when developers remove existing features which work perfectly because they’re whoring for streaming providers. Sonos has been doing that a lot. I also don’t wanna see ads in my app, when I’m trying to play music..Version: 11.2.3

Updates frequently break the iPad appThe latest one simply removed the ability to play anything anywhere. Awesome! Update: one of my favorite features is that Sonos can almost never process any command without restarting the app. And even more fun, the play/pause button is unreliable after it restarts. It may be playing but only offer “play,” or it may be paused and only offer “pause.” Leaving the house and want to turn off the music on the way out the door? Better sit down, maybe pour a drink. I left the music on all night recently because of this. I left convinced that it was off after at least a minute of toggling and waiting. Silly me. One must, I guess, use multiple devices to verify that a simple “pause” command was evaluated correctly. Another great feature is the frequency of updates. I wish the updates would fix the problems, but they only seem to compound them. The annoying update notification inevitably lists something I don’t care about and then breaks some basic functionality. Whom exactly are you catering to, Sonos? Your customers? Someone else? What gives? Great, now Sonos works with all this stuff I don’t have or even want, but can’t manage any single task without a complete restart. You are optimizing for the wrong priorities. Take care of your customers or we will leave and never come back..Version: 9.1

Bad....Play 5 S1. Doesn’t connect. Telling me to reboot router and speaker. Needs rebooting every day now. No more support..Version: 11.2.4

Improvement neededGreat concept. Lots of stations. Actually too many to every go through in one life time. A nuisance with app is that you have to open the app to turn down the volume or to see who is playing. If music is playing you should be able to pause, play and control the volume without unlocking your phone. Other music playing apps like, grooveshark and radio paradise have this feature..Version: 11.5

Removed ability to play local musicI can no longer play music stored on my iPhone. Very disappointed, replacing Sonos soon..Version: 11.2.4

To many updatesI’m fed up with updating it so frequently. Each app update means a speaker update that makes it unavailable during the process... and the experience is just the same..Version: 8.5.2

Why can’t I play from my iTunes library anymore?I used to love my Sonos speakers but now that I can’t use them to play from my music library on my ipad and iPhone, they are basically useless to me. This is a classic case of taking a perfectly good product and “updating” it into a useless product. I don’t want to have to sign up and pay for a streaming service when the speakers worked just fine before with my music library..Version: 10.5

Clean and simple but a little unstableWhile the Sonos speakers themselves sound good for what they are, that quality was the second priority behind my purchase. The value in Sonos lies in the app and the SonosNet that the speakers create and cast. The system is remarkably convenient and has allowed to me enhance and rejuvenate a very good but aging setup. On this aspect alone I would contribute five stars. The rub, however, is in the application. While, for the most part, the app/SonosNet interface and communication work well, there are irritating moments of dysfunction. The problem that I most often encounter is that the app will fail to communicate with the speakers for intermittent periods of time during which I cannot remotely control the components of my system. Less often, but proportionally more irritating, is when the sound from my Sonos Connect (which I use to port my home theatre into the SonosNet) will drop out repeatedly during a Netflix binge. This usually coincides with the previous problem and the two together constitute a significant disruption to the system’s functionality. While the app works well and (for the most part) easily, small but significant interludes of instability lead me to lower my rating alongside my satisfaction..Version: 9.0

Functionality recently curbed. Buy something else. When I invested thousands of pounds on Sonos equipment under four years ago the understanding was that to play music from my phone on the speakers I had to own the music and for it to be SAVED ON MY PHONE for playback. So I have always bought phones with larger memories at greater expense to enable this. At that time it was not possible to play music from steaming services either so I purchased hundreds (perhaps thousands?) of pounds of new music and saved it to my phone so I could play it. Then in June 2019 SONOS announced that it would no longer be possible to play MY music from MY iPhone and my only option was then to stream it. This now means that all the music I bought is basically useless and I have to now pay a monthly subscription for a streaming service I do not want. Further, much of my music I digitised from vinyl and also recorded from CD to transfer to my iTunes library to play from my phone. A lot of this cannot be found on any streaming service. This is a disgraceful and deeply unfair situation to be put in. I am frankly utterly disgusted. Just wish I’d bought Bang and Olufsen or any other decent system other than SONOS at the time. My advice is BUY ANOTHER BRAND OF SPEAKERS as this is not a problem you will face with any other manufacturer..Version: 10.6.1

So now need 2 apps for sonos? So let me get this straight. Now I need two apps for music with sonos. One for the ‘old “ product..ie a few years old…and one for the new ones. What a bunch of bunk. Should have stuck with regular speakers and 8 track cassettes. They still work.Version: 11.2.12

Great products, shame about the companyI’ve had Sonos for around 5 years with a mixture of Play:1 and Sonos One speakers and a Connect. OK, we haven’t got the huge investments that some have made, but it’s still not an insignificant spend. Until this update, the system has been rock solid. The reliability was the main reason I’ve continued to extend the system over the years. However, the app now refuses to connect to the speakers on a frequent basis and drops out whilst playing. The main thing that has prompted me to write this review is the appalling changes to the name and logo for this app. People who choose Sonos are often people who care about aesthetics and style as well as the functionality. Indeed, being a lifestyle product is the basis for most Sonos advertising. With that in mind, going with a logo and app name that looks like it has been thrown together by the work experience kid at a Chinese budget home automation manufacturer is pretty insulting. There will probably be another “I’m sorry, we got it wrong” email from the CEO heading out at some point in the near future, but there are only so many of those that people will take before losing confidence. I completely understand the need to end of life products, it’s not that which grates. It’s the contempt that the company clearly feels for those customers who ‘dare’ to still be using any older speakers which is why I’ll be moving from being a strong advocate for to an advocate against Sonos..Version: 11.2

By far the worst technology I have ever purchased in all my life.If there's one thing I've learned this year, it's that the Sonos system is the worst thing I've bought in a very long time. Constantly cutting out, not connecting, not playing full songs, playing one speaker only. Basically everything that can go wrong, goes wrong. I have spent literally months on the phone to the Experts who have failed time and time to get anything to work properly. You can't even wire them together as a very last resort. Awful technology. I've updated everything, restored everything, bought a new wifi hub. A bridge. A boost. Everything there is that can be done, I have done it. And it's as terrible as they day we got it. Avoid at all costs. There is nothing more infuriating than music cutting out, and for a system which sole purpose is to play your favourite music, it's pretty shocking indeed..Version: 11.2.13

Sound BarCannot play songs from my playlist which are on my iPhone.Version: 10.6.2

Frequent Updates are FrustratingI have had sonos components for a few years now and have no complaints about the sound quality, though you do pay for this. My main issue with the system is the frequency of updates. The typical scenario is where I feel like listening to some music, open the app and it says “updates available” and so i am directed to the app store to download. 10 mins later it then tells me update the speaker software or else I wont get the full experience, or something like this. So another 15 mins later I am finally ready to play some music. Well sadly the opportunity has often gone by then. It feels a unnecessary and that it is a opportunity for sonos to gather your metadata rather than keeping the system performing at its best..Version: 10.0.3

DisappointedIt’s a shame when you haven’t even had the chance to use the speaker and your already having problems. It just so happens that Sonos doesn’t have tech support available on the weekends to assist when the average human is needing it. I’m disappointed at the fact that I thought it would be a nice touch to bring the speaker to a bridal shower at a friends house for entertainment purposes. Connected it to the WiFi at her house, finally got everything setup and then couldn’t even use it because the speaker couldn’t just link to pandora without having my password. I couldn’t remember it to save my life. So I get it home the next day, and try to re-setup the speaker on the network in my house, thinking that this wouldn’t be so difficult according to the instruction video in the app/controller. I’ve unplugged the speaker, the router, plugged the Ethernet cable into a wireless router and the Internet box directly from the ISP, and nothing will work to have the speaker setup on my own network. The app/Controller instructs you to plug the Ethernet cable up and then wait for the mysterious green light that never comes on or to go to advanced settings which doesn’t appear anywhere in the app, or my personal favorite when the app tells you to select the SONOS wireless network that doesn’t appear. So lesson learned don’t take your Sonos anywhere and set it up unless you plan to leave it there!!! Because you won’t be able to set it up anywhere else!!!.Version: 9.0

It's half genius half rubbishBecause it cost so much and it's all over my house, I can't go back. You're kind of tied to it. Wish for the price you could plug an aux directly into the speakers or at least it should be Bluetooth. The chances of my 5 year old using it is pretty slim as it's too complicated. Walking round the house just to get wi-fi just to turn something down is frustrating. Be great if there was like a 3G link with it. It's so wifi centric. Don't get me wrong, I have about 8 speakers all over the house, and when it works it's brilliant but sometimes it's frustrating. I'd recommend shopping around and looking for an alternative ....buy some wire, and an old school amp and start plastering! If you've got cash and can't be bothered doing that it's a good alternative. When they upgrade their speakers etc it's gonna cost me thousands to swap and upgrade, so I'm stuck with it now for years. I still love just sticking some vinyl on and it just works !.Version: 10.2.2

Good if you just want to stream musicReally disappointed that you can’t play music straight from iPhone or iPad as originally advertised. Play 1 is useless without streaming service. Sleep function is bit glitchy, Libby service is useless. Have to keep authorising and doesn’t remember your place in book and starts from the beginning. They have 24/7 support on Messenger which is handy to fix most issues but wouldn’t of bought a Sonos speaker if I had known they would discontinue being able to play music and books from iPhone. :-(.Version: 11.1

Great service. Horrible appThe concept of Sonos is great. Adding any/all music services to 1 platform that can play through the wifi and in sync sounds amazing … If the app ever connects. I’ve had Sonos for several years and the entire time I’ve had the same problem and they haven’t seemed to fix it. The app is extremely unreliable. “Can not connect to your Sonos network” is the message of my nightmares that I see 5 times a day. I will literally turn on a station on Sonos, walk away for 5 minutes and when I come back I can’t use the app because it won’t connect. (I’ve had this problem in multiple house with different WiFi’s) The system is working because music is playing it’s just the app says it cannot connect. It’ll take me 10-15 minutes of hopping off and on the wifi and closing out the app to try an troubleshoot the problem before anything’s works. But to be honest I think that’s actually doing that thing cuz it doesn’t always work. The app is just extremely unreliable when it comes to connecting with the system. At list point I just walk away and come back in 20min to see if it’s working again. Please fix this Sonos. I will buy an entire replacement product if I find one before this is been fixed. It’s literally been happening for years....Version: 11.0

I wish I hadn’t bought SonosI have had cause to comment previously and 8 now 8 am totally fed up with sonos. Since being forced to instal the latest update, it is impossible to play music other than radio stations. My playlist/artists/albums all play perfectly on my iPad and iPhone and yet when connect to Sonos, the files can’t be found. It is so annoying and I really wish I hadn’t wasted my money on Sonos. When it works, it’s great but there are too many issues too frequently. I installed the recent app update my iPhone and iPad yesterday. Both devices failed to play any music that I had transferred via iTunes. The message stated it was unable to play ‘xxxxx’ as the file could not be found. Very annoying as I had invited a friend for supper so had to revert to my Bose/iPod. This morning, the update had completely removed my printers WiFi connection - no printer found. After turning every device off and on, I can now play playlists and print. I can only deduce that you do not properly test updates before release. It seems customers don’t feature too highly on your product support radar having read all of the similar reviews posted in the last week or so..Version: 9.3.1

Loss of Functionality- 1 StarThe functionality of Sonos was great when it played content from the media on the phone. Losing this functionality is a big disappointment. My enjoyment of Sonos now is significantly reduced. I would not recommend Sonos as it forces one to subscribe and pay for content by a music provider if one wants to control the music they listen to..Version: 10.4.2

Needs to improve2020 update Our app has just been rebranded ‘S1’ and I understand that’s because my system is too old to receive updates. Or my Play5 is, at least. If this development means I won’t have to suffer a full system shutdown, followed by 3 days of massive functionality issues, every time Sonos upgrades itself, then THANK YOU! I hope it also means I won’t have to throw away components because you can’t be arsed to support them, and that my home network (using a NAS drive connected wirelessly) will continue to work semi-reliably. Let’s also hope you decide not to upgrade the app any more. Not because it’s perfect but because you are hopeless at upgrades. My 2016 review I've had a house full of Play 1s, 3s, 5's and sound bars for about 4 years now. During the first 2 years, the system was perfect. Then around 2014 it caused more frustration than enjoyment. Constant track skipping / unable to find library etc etc. The customer service is lovely but frankly useless. Great they can see my whole system from Holland in real time but rubbish that they can't solve issues. The latest app upgrade (July 2016) seems to finally acknowledge that you may have to reboot your whole system to get it finding your library (this is at least a twice a week exercise for us) but has gone no way to solving the core issues. Very, very frustrating..Version: 11.2

Restore lock screen controls ASAPThe recent update added something hardly anyone needs - AirPlay 2 support - at the expense of the lock screen controls EVERYONE uses. A staggeringly stupid decision, made worse by the impractical “solution” of turning off every Airplay-enabled device on the network. There are some niche use cases where airplay support in the app would be useful, but when most streaming services and podcasts connect directly to sonos equipment over the internet, I can’t see why airplay would be prioritised over something so key as the controls people use every day. Even if this is a compromise caused by Apple’s airplay spec, that should have been enough to stop your airplay implementation, or you should have found a more sensible approach (like leaving the lock screen controls in place unless the user actively says they want to enable airplay). Someone at Sonos needs to realise that decisions like these make your users more likely to jump ship, not less. I’d have bought 2-3 more speakers in the last 18 months if I had any faith that the next update wouldn’t be a backwards step like this one..Version: 9.0

Sonos removes features after you buy it!One of the main features that attracted me to Sonos was the ability to listen to music I keep on my iPhone around the house. Sonos then decided to remove that ability! It’s like I bought a car and the manufacturer decided that once I had it for six months, I can no longer drive faster than a bicycle. Don’t buy this product!.Version: 10.4.1

Constantly Needing to Reconnect DevicesOnce I month I have to reconnect all of my Sonos devices. Brutal..Version: 11.2.9

Advice to new ownersYour kit is amazing ! The sound quality reflects the cost ! On these points I would buy more ...! Alas Sonos does not have a direct update service from their own website leaving you to rely on the App Store to update your kit, so any issues with apple and you can’t update your system, which then locks you out of the functions within the sonos app rendering the system useless! You will get used to the connection to sonos not available banner popping up! Or the not able to play this song right now ! I have used BT and EE routers and the result is the same. So great build quality for the cost, reasonable sound quality, lush when it works properly, sonos need to add a direct update service, and provide new customers with a known issues reported from other customers and the known solution to rectify issues! then it would be world class!!! , oh a play 5, a sub, and two, 1’s sounds mint, I should of had two 5”s and sacked the ones . 👍.Version: 10.2.1

SearchSearch is no longer working for us - we can still play items that are favourited but search just “spins”. Please advise..Version: 11.3

Speakers are wonderful but app has gone backwardsI went from 3 speakers to 7 inc. Sub and loving it. I've completely replaced all my sound equipment, for surround sound and music. It's not cheap but I'm really happy with the quality and versatility. Sure, there are better pure audiophile speakers out there but in terms of balancing versatility and quality Sonos is spot on. I’ve had enough equipment over the past 15 years to know the difference. Unfortunately Sonos has taken a backward step when it comes to the App. It’s now not as initiative making it harder to group speakers and access my music. It’s also a little buggy on my iPhone X. With lock screen controls and hardware buttons not working..Version: 8.3
