That principle does not in fact expand to give the second player an entire row or the board because it is not simply a sum of impartial games and is not quite an impartial game itself (though it is close enough to be examined with Sprague-Grundy theory). If each of the boxes was separate from the others, your point would be correct, but they are not. Plays in each box affect the others. Elwyn Berlekamp has done a decent amount of work analyzing the game of dots and if you are interested you can check it out, but it is *not* necessarily a game that the second player should win with perfect play (it depends on the size of the grid), and while it has been solved for up to a 6x6 grid last I checked, the first player was at an advantage most of the time..Version: 0

First off, this game should include the option for bigger playing fields. If you include bigger fields you should also include zoom in zoom out for easier play. The only problem with playing against a computer is that the game itself is totally dependent on errors. That is, mathematically, in a correctly-played game, the first player will ALWAYS lose. Consider a game of one cell - there are 4 posts, and the 4th placed post will win the box, so it goes player1,player2,player1,player2 wins. That principal scales up such that player two is always the first to win a box if no mistakes are made, and moreover, player two will win ALL the boxes in a row if no mistakes are made. Therefore, I'm giving it a 4 - everything that the developer can control is good, but the game itself is flawed when playing against a computer..Version: 0

✓ Great for what it isThis app is exactly what it says. It's basically the squares game where you draw lines between dots to make squares and whoever completes the most squares wins. There are difficulty levels for your opponent so you can challenge yourself when you're good at it. It's quite simple to place lines once you get the hang of it -you have to tap and hold your finger around where you want it and then drag your finger so it goes in the right place. There's also an undo button which is handy for if you've accidentally put your line in the wrong place. Overall, very good..Version: 0

✓ I prefer this app's line-creation methodI have another free Dots app on my iPad, and it's much better looking and optimized for the iPad, but it doesn't have this app's game-play interface or difficulty settings. It's much easier to create lines in this game--simply tap the area between two dots to have a line drawn between them (the other app requires you to touch each dot to connect them, and the dots are fairly small)--and it has two difficulty settings for the computer. Dots isn't a fancy type of game to begin with, but this app definitely delivers a solid, basic gameplay experience..Version: 1.41
✓ Great, but easyThis game is so much fun and a really great version of dots. Playing with others is great and easy and it's pretty rare that I'll put a line down and have it go somewhere else, which is pretty common in other dots for the iPhone (plus it has undo if this ever does happen) BUT the computer is way too easy! Medium is just not challenging enough. I haven't lost once yet, but all my victories are so hollow TL;DR it's a great game but it needs harder difficulties.Version: 1.55

✓ Great Dots Game!I used to play Dots years ago and it was a lot of fun. This game is better than the old pencil and paper method in every respect. Beautiful graphics, very fast game play. To make it even better, I'd like to see: 1. Ability to change colors for me and my opponent. 2. Various difficulty levels for the computer opponent. 3. WIFI play against human opponents. 4. An undo button -- sometimes I mean to tap in one place but I'll be a bit off and it will draw a line where I did not intend and have lost some games this way -- something which would never happen with paper and pencil. So when this happens I'd like to undo. All in all great version of Dots and you can't beat the price..Version: 0
