✓ Poor application.I travelled to India from New York JFK airport via Abu Dhabi past week. boingo was almost of no use, even when there was free wifi at airports it would not find a signal. If I connected manually using my phone’s settings then bio go would happily report that I was connected. Other times, like in April 2018 and January 2019 when I made a similar trip, I would even get a message “ no internet is available on this device” . No kidding I did not have internet, what I was trying to do with the bio go app is to get internet. All in all not a very useful app - perhaps someone can tell me how much I should expect from this app. Thankfully I am not paying for this service because based on my experience over the past year, I would never pay for this. Frankly airports now have free wifi and this app is of less relevance now that it may have bee sometime back. If someone from boingo reviews my usage logs please note that at any time you see internet is because I connected using alternate means and then boingo figured it out and claimed success..Version: 6.17

✓ ConnectionThe auto connect often doesn’t work. Take many minutes showing trying to login but often ended stuck on that screen until you give up or it just fail to connect. For Wi-fi hotspot that have connected before, sometime it will auto reconnect, but more often a pop up will say Wi-Fi is available, press login to connect. Not much point having the app for auto connect when you often have to go in and manually click connect..Version: 6.6.3
✓ Hotel Log-in BROKENWhen traveling through UK and France last week my iphone would never allow hotel WiFi log ins. In my settings screen, I can connect to a hotel network, but the WiFi signal strength bars on the upper left of my iphone are missing, I am never offered the pop-up hotel log-in screen at Marriott properties. ✓ Boingo actually prevents me from connectingThe staff of the Marriott in San Ramon, CA told me that if I wanted to connect to their Wi-Fi I had to delete my Boingo app first. They were right. As soon as I deleted Boingo, my phone connected immediately. I’ve had this same experience in airports & hotels around the world for a couple years now. ✓ Double charged scamI downloaded this app hoping to be able to use when I travel but the app is confusing and the service is horrible. ✓ Worst app on the planet! Uninstall Wi-Finder!!What a crap of an app. Worst ever. It never does anything useful ... you can find WiFi networks just fine under “Settings —> WiFi “. But it actually PREVENTS you from getting on WiFi networks! That’s right! I now had been at several hotels, couldn’t figure out, why I could not log on. The check mark next to the WiFi symbol was there, but my IPhone won’t connect to the WiFi network. I spent HOURS trying to find a solution, resetting all passwords ( painful! ), etc ... nothing worked. I tried all the tricks I could find. Until ... I noticed that it said “look for Boingo WiFi” under that check mark. I open that app, now it connects me ... but I have no idea whether it is using its own plan to pay for it, or the plan I already paid for at the hotel. I went ahead and tried to delete it ... it is not under “Boingo WiFi Finder” but under “Wi-Finder”. Deleted it now, and now, everything works like a charm. But those lost hours of my life ... ✓ Can’t use many WiFi connections when installedUpdate to developer re fix: the problem is not that it doesn’t work when you try to connect thro the app. The problem is the iPhone will not connect to certain networks because the app is on the phone, but there is zero indication that this is anything to do with Boingo. No mention of it appears in the wi-fi connection screen. You just see a check mark next to network as though it’s trying to connect but you never get the WiFi 3 arcs in the top right; it never fully connects. How are people supposed to know to go to the boingo app to fix this in the first place? ——- I’ve had this app for 2 or 3 years and only just discovered it’s the cause of an inability to login to some networks. I see from other reviews now that it’s not just me. In many hotels I simply cannot log in to their networks, I get no indication that it’s because of the boingo app, instead it just hangs trying to connect with a check mark on the network but never actually getting any further. Only recently did I discover if I go into the app I can connect, but I had no idea the app was even something to consider, there was no indication I should be using it - I already was given free WiFi but the hotel. Same thing has just happened now in another hotel chain, although in this case I need to set the app to ignore the network as it can’t connect to it. ✓ Two iPhones. The one with Boingo...I have two iPhones. One personal, one work. The one without Boingo remains connected to Wi-Fi even when locked. The one with Boingo always reverts to cellular when the phone is locked and I have to launch Boingo and reconnect every time I unlock my phone. The iPhone with Boingo has used 90% of my data allowance, because the background processes use cellular. And yes I agree with the comment - non of that sounds right, but are the actual issues with the app... ✓ Boingo breaks login pagesThis has become a routine occurrence. I cannot log in to hotel landing pages. Boingo tried to make this sound like some sort of “one off” but it happens all over the place and disappears when you revive the app and the profile. I recommend removing this junk ware. The developer has replied that they “have limited control over certain hotspots” and like in other cases are trying to portray this as some sort of one-off problem. But this is a widespread problem, it basically interferes with any network that uses a landing page. Hotels (Marriott, Starwood, Hilton etc.), airports, and other places all over the world for me, it’s a systematic and consistent problem across networks and devices and has been going on for a long time. They need to make their app compliant with international standards and either won’t or can’t. I’ve deleted their app and the problem has disappeared. (Yet, oddly, still shows an overall high rating). I can attest that this app breaks at least 2 free WiFi spots with captive login verifications, as reviewer MrBen123 stated. One of them is certain Hilton HHonors WiFi, so fairly wide spread. It is a serious concern for frequent international travelers, as the breaks cause by the app are not easily identified and one is left to diagnose it in environments with no internet connections. The developer’s response (to MrBen123’s review) of a fix is irrelevant/inaccurate/incomprehensible at best, since, in their current version, pretty much none of the mentioned options were present. ✓ Ok but bit hit and missOnly had it a couple of months. When it works it works but 50% of the time it either fails to connect or you have to go round the loop of connecting to WiFi in settings then waiting to be told to try Boingo only to be told to select a network etc etc until you are successful or give up. When it doesn't work at all there is really no way to know why. Stayed in a hotel a few days ago when it said on phone "use Boingo here" and yet never once connected. I really only need it for foreign trips as I often find WiFi performance in well used hotspots is worse than 3G. ✓ Pretty much useless now.Used to be great. Almost useless now since Apple removed the Disable Auto Login option in iOS 6. Logs on to Boingo Hotspots ok but affiliated ones don't work even if the App says Boingo is available on their network. The Safari Login Form appears which inhibits WiFi until you input the user and password etc. This makes the App think you are not on WiFi so won't connect! Customer support is awful. Every time you email they give you a phone number to call. Every looked at the cost of a call from Angola to a US 'freephone' number? Eyewatering to put it midly. ✓ Good overall but has its issuesI like the app and the service BUT here's a few issues I think you should work on. International Toll free number doesn't work so have to call the US number when I have an issue which can be very costly. Told customer service multiple times but nothing has changed In certain airports it takes forever to log in. Amsterdam for one on the KPN line. The most important issue to me is Germany. You guys need to do a deal with T-mobile who is market leader and has the wast majority of the hotspots there, if not all (certainly feels like all). You don't have a deal for the mobile service as my app always says no Boingo whenever I am on a t-mobile line. Thanks. ✓ Nearly great!Where there are actual Boingo hotspots with a powerful (ie not less than than two bars), the App works well, no complaints other than it does not seem to understand when the iPad is already connected and starts searching for a hotspot ... without an internet connection....some genius! Also when it finds that there is an existing live 3G connection when it gives up. The previous version of the app (without the intensely annoying map of the USA!!!) worked much better, especially irritating is the VPN feature which seems to be really badly implemented from a users point of view. The big issue is that Boingo are being scammed by their so-called roaming "partners", particularly in France and southern European airports which generally prefer the monopoly rip-off business model. So far I have rarely successfully connected using the App where the local provider offers Boingo as a roaming partner, there seems to be no standard login protocol and the App does not seem to be capable of negotiating the often very peculiar dialogues..Version: 5.0.0072

I then used the app for the first five days and it worked well. Then it stopped working. I contacted Boingo and heard nothing in the 1st 24 hours (they do state 48 hours). I contacted them again after 48 hours and sometime after that I was finally contacted to advise I had used it too much! You can’t use it too much, because the app disconnects you when you lock your phone. They have refused to reactivate the account because I am either using it for commercial purposes or as a residential replacement!! Not happy at all! ✓ Breaks Hotel LoginsSo just to echo what everyone has said if you install the app, there is a very good chance it will break the ability to login to a Marriott property. And you definitely won’t be able to add your iPhone if you have high speed internet as part of the Marriott Rewards program. ✓ Sometimes troublesomeI regularly travel through airports, so the ability to connect is tremendously useful. I've had some difficulty connecting and with drop-outs at airports, but this seems to have been resolved. However, the number of airports at which Boingo can be used is extremely limited. The service was fine until I left my job at the airport and tried to cancel my subscription. After submitting two requests to cancel my service they did not and continued to charge me. ✓ Battery killer - updatedIOS has a great feature to see what apps are constantly running - this one was so bad that it only let my phone charge to 80% as it was constantly running overnight in my house. Why does this app need to run in the background at all? When I need it, I’ll load it. Waste of time when you’ve already put the Boingo config profile on your phone. Added May 10 - the app is the latest version. I have a screen shot of battery and app usage for the day I deleted this app. Before 4 am, race condition, 60 minutes of background usage every hour. For instance it will try to connect you to to a hotel network and never actually connect you without giving an indication of an issue. ✓ Decent application, but poor customer serviceThe application works well and and can save you a fair amount of money when compared to hotel wi-fi prices or international data roaming charges. I found a decent number of Boingo hotspots in Europe. However, the customer support for the service is quite poor. The websites's password recovery did not work for me, so I had to provide address and credit card details to get my password reset - this took several days. There is no function in the website to cancel your subscription, so you have to phone or email to get this done. Using email, this took a week and a half to get done. Altogether, cancelling took over 16 days. Also note that the fine print on the contract requires five days notice of cancellation before the end of the billing cycle, or you may get charged an additional month..Version: 0

✓ Its only "alright".My experience thus far with Boingo on ios devices has not been great. The app works, but you must manually connect to the wifi first and then open the app to connect. The app does not actively flag up the SSIDs in the vicinity which are compatible, and the map of known hotspots in the app is not accurate in my experience. The biggest frustration however, is that when travelling globally and using Boingo in many airports, I find that my connection is regularly dropped, meaning I need to go back into the boingo app and connect again and again. This is extremely frustrating....on some occasions the drop occurs after only a few seconds of no user activity. There does not appear to be any keep alive option. Drops are guaranteed if the iPhone/ iPad is locked, meaning that you cannot rely on the boingo service to deliver that critical email or message when the phone is in your pocket. I gave it a try on in few countries to have a connection success rate of less than 25 percent. Coming back from one of my trip, I reported to the company the difficulties that I had at a specific location where Boingo advertised services to be told that I should call from that location on a toll free number. I gave that a try on a following trip, after 40 minutes of answering questions and trying to fix the problem with a technician I had a temporary fix (as it didn't work at the same location on a later date).
