✓ One of the best games on the iphoneI first played Slay back several years ago on my PC and on my old Windows Mobile PDA, even back then it was such a cool game, and I didnt mind one bit handing over money for the full version... I'm pleased to say... nothing has changed since! This game is an amazing port of the original windows version, if anything its better! The graphics are great and it works really well with the touch screen... the ONLY thing is think is missing is the ability to get more maps (something coming soon??) and any sort of multiplayer options (again - is this coming soon?)... dispite any of this, im still giving this game 5 stars, its amazing value for money, can be played anywhere and has great replay value.... ✓ Great game for 10+ yearsGreat, simple, "it just works" game that can kill 10-20 minutes very quickly. My only complaint after like 10 years of having this game and playing it every now and then, is that AI blindly yolo at the user player. Sure, I'm on expert, but when myself and another AI have small territories like 25% and the other AI has 50%, why is the other 25% doing literally nothing fighting the actual threat, and going for me instead? Makes for some frustrating scenarios, where they give up cutting the larger AI territory to take your tiles instead... -Even animals understand the basic concept of the larger threat, even if we don't work together specifically we still need to leave each other alone or else the larger will just swamp both of us..Version: 5.3.4

There is vertually no elements of luck and the idea of supporting your troops through the total state mass you own equals your army to an appropriate size. Simple game but quite addictive. A while back you changed it so that if you accidentally bump it or scroll between turns you have to manually zoom back in every time. Please make this optional or just go back to the old way. ✓ Great GameThis game is a ton of fun and gives you about a years worth of maps before you need to make an in game purchase. The ai is also well designed, the only suggestion I would make is for the ai to do better in the late game. It doesn’t recognize long chains so it doesn’t cut your land in half to wipe out your army if you attack too quick, since the player can counter the ai with this strategy I would like to see the ai be able to do it as well..Version: 5.2.1

I’ve been playing slay for a long time and back when I could play it on PC, and now that it’s been in the App Store I’ve been playing it for years. A bit disappointed that there was no animation or message when I finished all the easy maps and again when I finished all the maps of the medium level. ✓ Great gameI've been playing this game for about nine years, starting with a desktop version. Definitely a a great way to pass the time. One suggestion: all the pieces dying from loss of land "starvation" could be changed to 'starvation first for the lowliest pieces'. For example, if a territory has a spearman and a peasant and has 8 hexes, then the hut hex is captured taking the total down to 7 hexes, the peasant would die, but the spearman would survive. Alternatively, if the number of hexes were reduced to 5, the spearman would perish, but the peasant could survive. Either method makes more sense from a thematic point of view than everyone dies. ✓ Fun but simpleThe core gameplay is fun and nuanced. Every level is beatable, but some are fiendishly hard and take many tries. But there really isn't too much to this game. The major missing feature is any sort of multiplayer, even pass around. The AI is very easy to trick once you understand it. There are a few bugs. Sometimes it crashes randomly. Some maps have territory right up to the corners where the top menus are, so when you click those areas you hit the menu. The only workaround is to zoom way in. The AI can cheat by removing expensive units without having them killed. I'm not sure if they just disappear or get their cost recycled. Occasionally I have the option to take a hex that should be off limits. I'm not sure what causes this one..Version: 3.3

At the time I contacted Sean to tell him what a great game I thought Slay was and how much I enjoyed playing it and in response Sean sent me a link to download a free and full copy of his entire suite of games. What a great guy! What a great find to come across a copy for my iPod touch and I sure don't mind paying for a different platform version of such a great game. ✓ Fun gameI have played this for years. I like how simple it is to learn yet challenging to master. For added challenge I like to give myself a few extra criteria for winning. For example I consider it to be harder to win if I can get the AI to surrender to my dominance while keeping each starting color alive. Or I like to have my territory touch each shoreline of the four cardinal directions and each lake as well before the first surrender is offered. Although I give this game a 5 star rating I don’t like that the recent update seems to color the whole map my color when I accept surrender. I might be weird but I liked looking at how the island looked with each color after accepting surrender. I also think it would be cool if I were able to choose my color to play with (Like it was available on PC). I think another fun challenge is to beat the same map with each of the six color options as it is a different experience for each color even while playing on the same map. ✓ Great apart from one annoyanceI’ve played this game a lot over the last couple of years, it’s the perfect game for taking a break from work for 10 minutes. The one thing that gets in the way of it being perfect is that the touch immediately scrolls, so if you are trying to place a man, half the time because there was very slight movement when touching the screen it scrolls instead of placing. If it had a small delay before scrolling to give placing priority it would be perfect. I try really hard to make quick touches, but it’s impossible, at least on this iPad Pro. ✓ It’s time for more maps!I need to leave a review because I’ve finally played through every map available and want the developer to know its time to add another row to the available maps. And by “played through” I need to clarify that I’ve played them twice: once to just win and a second pass through to get as low of a score as possible (fewest turns). This is an excellent game, possibly the one I’ve spent the most time with over the years. After much thought, the best feature is that every map is “solvable,” meaning that the AI is not random, but instead reacts to your moves the same every play through. Some plays are only better in how they make the AI react a turn or two from when you play them. If I can make one suggestion: add another difficulty level where the human player goes last. Having the benefit of first-play is huge...I bet this will make some maps unsolvable, but I’d love to try. Thank you for this game. Simple to learn (even the wife now is addicted) and progressively harder as you go through the levels. So glad to see this game on iPhone, if you like an an absorbing strategy game with a simple premise then this is the game for you. The game really shines on the harder levels with some maps being fiendishly difficult to conquer. The iPhone version has some graphical improvements over the PC original and the way the game automatically saves your position when you exit is a nice touch. ✓ Strategic MasterpieceWhen i first got this game, i was annoyed that it seemed so simple. The reviews i had read had hailed this game as the coming of jesus. However, as i stuck with it, i realised that it wasn't simple, it has stripped the game of all the non-essentials leaving a streamlined game that does not allow mistakes. This game is a miraclous answer to other RTS games on the iPod touch, whose only skill requirement is that you can press the 'create tank' button a gazillion times. With this game, it is easy to learn, but difficult to master. Every move must contemplated unless you want to watch your fledgling empire swamped by enemies or your troops starve to death. ✓ 6 stars, for a great long running game.On mobile I’ve come to accept games come and go. In many games the content is short lived. Even if you find a game you continue to enjoy, games often disappear without warning when developers stop updating. Even expensive $50 games can disappear without a trace (I’m looking at you EA). But not Slay has been around FOREVER and is still kicking. Still just as fun. Still plenty of content. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed any mobile game as consistently and for as long as Slay. There should be a button to jump to the next available man or village without having to scroll around looking for him. Also an option to turn off the map inertia when scrolling would be great. You make changes that i haven’t liked too much, but i adapted, whatever. But you just made a shape/colour/texture change that hurts my eyes now. I’m 26. This shouldn’t be bothering me on my iphone 6. You have all these weird diverse options, even the isometric, which doesn’t seem really beneficial at all. How about a : old classic map style? Your current map update is just too much for me personally. Also the new really thick rotating red lines (to where you can place players) are a huge distraction. Thin it out? Turn off the rotation? ✓ My suggestionGreat game, I have a suggestion. Often I find myself counting all the hexagons of a large enemy territory, then adding up their costs to see if a move would kill them. Seems like it could be intuitive to click on a territory of 8 or more and the calculations would appear, “32 Income, 28 Cost”. I do love to play on the Master level, but some maps appear to be impossible to beat on that level. Not a big deal. Some of these maps are incredibly fun and if I could mark favorites maybe? Finally, in your game, Mother of all battles, a replay summary of each turn is replayed. It would be cool to see that on some of the tough victories..Version: 5.2.1

Pros: - Heaps of levels - easy to play, difficult to master Cons: - No AI players - No muliplayer - No tutorial, only rules - It's a great game, but not worth a price of $5 (esp if the iPad version is the same as the iPhone). For a game like this I'd expect to pay around $2-3. It needs a lot more 'polish' to give it a price like that... My advice: Try the Lite first as $5 might be pushing it as it currently stands. Here is what I'd love for the developer to add: - different colours for each of your different opponent's people (all the peasants look the same!) - a tutorial at the start (explaining all the components of the game and screen). ✓ Oh no - more wasted money......I thought I was safe using the iphone but I was wrong. I even checked iTunes for Sean O'Connor games and there were none - it was safe to purchase an iphone. I first discovered Slay, along with the other Sean O'Connor games many years ago when I had a PDA. Slay quickly became my favorite game of its type and still is, (I've even got the PC version). Easy to learn how to play (ok - 10 mins at most) but many different levels so once you've mastered an island at one level you can up the anti and see how clever you really are. And when you turn the game off it saves your progress, even mid island.... So all I have to do now is dump all my other game apps, and explain it to the wife.... ✓ Minimalist and deep turn-based strategyIs it Chess? Is it Risk? Is it Civilization? It's all 3!! This is a deep and rewarding turn-based strategy combining military, economic and territorial elements with excellent AI. I've been playing the Windows version for years, finally it's found it's true home on mobile. Games last 10-20min making it perfect for a quick blast. Presentation wise, it looks a little ropey, but don't judge a book by it's cover, this will be the best couple of quid you spend for a long time. With nearly 400 islands to go at, it'll be a while before you beat them all on the hardest AI level. And you will want to beat them all, this game is strangely addictive, it has that "just one more go" factor about it. Please please please provide online capability in a future release. The AI is good, but it's not that challenging for a veteran like myself ;-).Version: 0

✓ Great GameSuch a great game, I managed to get this when it was free but would deffinetly buy it. It's very tactical and strategic like a giant game of chess. There is a big difficultly leap in going from easy maps to hard maps (haven't been able to find any medium maps). There is also a ridiculous amount of maps and some of them can easily take half an hour to an hour to complete so there is plenty of playability. I also like the feature of all your oponents surrendering when your obviously going to win, as you don't have the boring task of clearing up.
