They almost all have smartphones and I think an iPhone dictionary is more useful and cost effective than many other reference materials. ✓ Great resource for Spanish learners at all levelsThis is a great app which I’ve had for a number of years as I’ve been learning Spanish. It has been a very easy to use dictionary from the the beginning of my language learning until now as a more advanced student. It’s particularly good as a reference for verbs and way more helpful than a standard dictionary. You can look up different conjugations of verbs as they appear in text, and find out the infinitive (or base verb) then find out all of the conjugations of that verb by pressing a button. The support from Vida Lingua, the app developers is excellent. I was having difficulties with intrusive ads and they responded promptly to assist me to resolve the issue. ✓ Saved My Life in Spain!This easy-to-use app allows easy translation between English and Spanish. It does not require an active Internet connection to use. While in Spain, I broke my ankle on a Geology hiking trip. This app was the only one (out of four that I had downloaded) that would work without an active Internet connection. Using this app, I was able to learn enough basic Spanish to communicate effectively with my surgical team. I was able to use this app for five days, while in the Spanish hospital. ✓ GREAT Dictionary App!I have bought multiple versions of your app in a variety of languages that I study. I LOVE it! I have tried many apps — but I LOVE the consistent format you bring to these apps in the various languages. The BEST part — it is all beautifully linked. You type in the word you are looking for, and the app automatically finds definitions in whatever language you typed (without having to change the language, as most other apps require). Also, the VERB conjugations are wonderful! You look up a verb — click on "conjugate" in the upper right — and you instantly have access to ALL conjugations in all tenses of that verb. NO other app I have tried comes close to convenience for rapidity of verb conjugations (and I have tried MANY other apps). This dictionary is not as good for longer translations (I use another app for that ... ) — but for everything else, it is the best iphone/ipad app I have found for very fast and accurate translations and verb conjugation review. Thank you! NOTE #1 — The non-paid versions are inferior. But the adds go away and the dictionary greatly expands if you get the paid apps (well worth the money!). NOTE #2 — Someone mentioned they had trouble hearing the words. I did to until I shut off "Go on-line for better quality" — after which I heard the voices well. Two features that I would rate highly are the ability to see the full conjugation of the verbs and the link to the Internet which brings up other meanings of a work together with sentences in which the word is used. It also has verb forms which is handy—if the word you need is a past participle, it says so. The only little thing I wish for is Latin American Spanish. ✓ This has become my first go-to Spanish English dictionaryAlthough I had been using another dictionary, because of the phrases and idioms that are so helpful in that dictionary, I have switched to this dictionary as my first go to resource. That is because this dictionary incorporates some of those things as well, while also offering a variety of other helps, such as the test and the conjugations. The layout is easier to use because you don't have to manually switch back-and-forth between languages. This has become my first go-two dictionary, although I still use the other one for phrasal application. ✓ Very handy, mostly comprehensiveI find this to be very useful - it is quick to look up words, the conjugations are very good (though missing the informal imperatives I think). There are a few relatively common words missing (eg "soler") which is why it gets 4 instead of 5. The quiz also could be better - it seems to repeat the same obscure words over again rather than focusing on either the most common words, or those the user has looked up before, or (ideally) progressing as the user's Spanish improves. Easy to use, and reasonably-priced compared to similar "stand-alone" translators (those that require no connection to the internet to operate). The translations and verb conjugations are spot on and there is an impressive vocabulary included as part of the full app. I'm equally impressed with the timeliness of updates as well- I've found in the past that competing apps take too long between updates which can lead to runtime bugs. I have been searching for a similar app for over a year, specifically the need for correct translation, as well as access to the vocabulary in areas where I'm unable to connect to the internet. As a Brit who speaks no other language I started with the Dictionary and have now moved onto using the Verbs. My Spanish pen pals have understood me! ✓ Twice as pleased!I originally got the Ascendo dictionary for my iPhone and I have been satisfied with the depth and breadth of the vocabulary. Then I purchased and iPad and decided to buy another copy, but after clicking on Buy Now and following the prompt I was alerted that I already purchased it and didn't have to pay again. Not all my apps work like this so I checked and Ascendo's dictionary is a universal application so it can be downloaded onto several devices without paying for multiple copies. ✓ Nice programThis is more than just a dictionary. It has a quiz feature where you can match words and full conjugation of some of the most difficult verbs. Switching from English to Spanish and back again is as easy as tapping the icon on the screen. The phrase feature is helpful - I found the "Flirting" section to be kind of humorous! ✓ Great Spanish Dictionary, even betterThis update improves the layout of dictionary, placing noun genders at top of Spanish > English lookup instead of just in English > Spanish translations. Phrases are ten times better and you can search them by keyword. Got my iPad last week and started looking for apps to study Spanish. Getting a dictionary was first on my list. I choose Ascendo because it has lots of features and takes good advantage of the iPad screen. I like the split screen so you can lookup words one side and see the definitions on the other side. Ability to see verb conjugations from within the definition page is fantastic; ability to click on translation words to go to that definition; ability to add notes to words; ability to search for any conjugated form of a verb (i.e. you don't have to know the root to look up a verb-- searching for "voy" will take you to the root "ir"). That last part needs a little troubleshooting because not all conjugated forms are currently searchable. Once that is fixed it will replace both the dictionary and verb conjugation app I had been using--well worth the money to have it all in one app and not have to switch back and forth. ✓ Great app!This is a wonderful app. It is more than a dictionary, really. It gives lots of useful examples of all the listings, and there are thousands of verbs conjugated. If you are connected to wifi or cellular you can get the word or expression pronounced. It is really easy to flip through the screens, and it keeps a history of your recent searches so you can easily go back for another look. ✓ Phrases rockSlick little app. Being able to jot down a few notes is a great idea and a welcomed addition. The fact that this is right there on my cell phone makes it very relevant in my day to day needs. I needed something like this after I graduated college and was traveling europe for 2 months. I could have used the german and french versions too. Maybe they could bundle them. I especially like the phrases section. ✓ Vidalingua PlusThis off-line dictionary is excellent with online reference (usually to Wikipedia) for unusual local or slang words not included in the offline section. The support is excellent. I did find for my uses that I required the plus version which has a larger dictionary than the free version. For many people the free version will probably be quite adequate. I use both the Spanish and the French versions which I find equally useful. I have found no other off-line language dictionary to come anywhere close to the usefulness of these..Version: 8.3.14

✓ Ongoing student of SpanishOk, this is not a translation tool. It won't translate sentences or documents (and the ones of those I've tried generally fail miserably). But as a dictionary, it has upgraded itself from the original version and now seems to have all verb tenses available, AND it's a snap to hit "conjugate" while you're in the dictionary, and there you have the whole verb, all conjugated. I have noticed that it lacks the "imperative" tense, as in, "Listen"! The only other lack I notice (and I suspect this could be a tough one to arrange) is in the food and menu items that are NOT listed, at least as far as the many regions of Spain and Mexico I've traveled. And I love how you can tap on any word from among those in the definition, and you are immediately now in the definition of THAT word. Easy to get back, as well. I have one translation app I use occasionally, and have used two other dictionaries; but this one is my default. I am very happy to have it and I use it daily. Thank you, whoever you are! ✓ AdsI have nothing but good things to say. The developer responded very quickly and sorted this out. As for the app, I may as well add that I find it excellent. It is a dictionary, along with verb conjugations and in that it is really helpful. I wish I could say my spanish was anywhere near as good😏. Like the last reviewer, I am now getting harassed by ads for an app I paid for. I see the developer has responded and is hoping for a fix soon! Well I certainly hope so but that doesn’t help me now. ✓ Complete, Quick, Phrases TooI visit clients in central America on a regular basis but my Spanish could be better. This dictionary has helped me improve a lot faster. For one thing, I used to forget my paper dictionary but I never go anywhere without my iPhone. It's a lot faster to look up words by tapping a few letters than searching through a paper dictionary so I'm more apt to do it. The database is comprehensive and the definitions are very complete. There is a button to add comments to definitions. I wasn't sure how to use this but now I jot down things that help me retain words that are difficult to remember. The travel phrases have been improved in this update and you can add your own now. That's a real nice addition because no phrase book can have everything and it's nice to add phrases you learned on the road. All in all this is a useful application and I am very satisfied..Version: 5.2.9
