It's just so nice to be able to create a little program without all of the usual paraphernalia associated with programming these days. ✓ Perfect for what I do.Okay, to start with, yes, the internal text editor leaves much to be desired with how it jumbles the lines rather than keeping things straight. Despite that imperfection, Basic! truly is a throwback to my childhood when I used to program Basic on a PreComputer 1000. However, instead of short text-based RPGs, I use Basic! for creating stochastic music. (Protip: it's best to use a text editor with Dropbox exporting to program your stuff and then copy/paste into the Basic! app to run it. The Basic! app itself has limited slots for programs internally, and can't upload to Dropbox. These features would be nice internally, but squashing bugs and improving stability are more important.).Version: 3.5.9

✓ PerfectThis app is incredibly fun and enriching. It is one of the top five reasons I switched back to an iPad after trying another tablet; I just missed programming with Basic! too much. As primitive as the BASIC language is, with this app and its ability to give you access to the advanced features of your iOS device (accelerometer, touch screen, etc.), you can do some really cool things, especially with little homemade games. It's also easy to share your creativity with other users on the Basic! forums, from the app itself. Five stars forever. ✓ Great!!!I go all the way back to the Atari 800 and Basic was the first language I learned. Then came the PC and Basic, Basica, and Qbasic. I used them all and continue to do so whenever I want an answer to something without having to construct a compicated GUI just to get it. Just some notes. 1. Not all the commands are listed in Help, for instance- GOSUB/RETURN, so it's worth testing a command out . 2. You can SAVE whatever is currently in the Editor to any <filename>.bas. DIR in Terminal Mode will list all *.bas programs. You can LOAD any of these programs back into the Editor. 3. You can work on a pgm in any text editor (Notes- for instance) and COPY/PASTE it in in Terminal Mode for RUN testing. (The line editor in BASIC! is a bit clunky.) After tweaking you can EMAIL whatever is in the Editor back to yourself to work on it some more. 4. There are many Basic languange reference manuals online which may differ somewhat from this implementation but they can be useful for learning or as a refresher. WHILE I look forward to a more complete command set, WEND the day is over this is a great addition to idevice apps and more than worth the two bucks!.Version: 1.3

✓ Basic worksThe program works and so far I have not found any major issues. Weak points are editing and error responses. Editing is line by line and awkward. The errors are given in run-time and sometimes are a close to the real error, but might take a few modifications before you figure it out. Still it works and gets the job done. Keying in a long program would be pretty exhausting. I assume I am missing an alternate way to edit, either that or Apple has the interface locked down..Version: 1.3

✓ FantasticI'm a 15 year old girl who has recently got into programming. I learned from Turing, but wanted to try something new. (Turing is more basic than Basic hahaha) Basic! Is the perfect solution, better than I could have hoped for. I used to just play video games whenever I was on the bus, and now I find myself spending the entire ride programming on my phone. Love this app! There are a few bugs, such as some that crash the app as soon as you open it, but they are usually fixed once I close it and open it again. One suggestion I would have (Though I know it would be hard to do) would be to tell you what the syntax error is, just like Turing. It has a few things that it tells you is wrong, but I would like a few more. Guess that's all. Keep up the great work!.Version: 3.5.9

✓ Really excellent app!Excellent app! I've been looking for a good programable calculator to save time (and errors) in keying-in long and tedious equations. I know I could use a spreadsheet for the simple stuff but iterative calcs are almost impossible - until now. This app let's me write complex algorithms in basic just like I did at university. It's really easy and quick and I can save them for future use in a simple menu and even share them with collegues via email. If you're looking for suggestions for new features I'd probably request functions and sub-procedures along with local variables - but this app is still brilliant just the way it is. If you need to write a simple program to solve a math problem or you want to teach your kids programming without worrying about all the complexity that modern languages entail, this is the app for you. ✓ Really Great ProgramI previosly wrote a review in which I recommended some additions. The changes since then included one of those changes along with other great changes. Two changes I suggested that were not added which would be nice are a cursor postioning command such as movetoxy, gotoxy, or locate to posion the cursor on th screen. The other was logic commands, and, or, and not, that work with parenthesis. In the graphics area, a means of inputting data. Other additions that would be nice are: An inkey$ command to get a key input on the fly A tab command to place the cursor at an absolute position on the current line A pos command to return the current cursor position A def fn command to define a callable function A on goto and on gosub command A select case command In the graphics area, a command to test the state of a pixel These are all commands that were available in the retro basics It's a great program and I enjoy using it. ✓ Wicked, a superb blast from the past...Imagine my surprise when I saw an interpreted programming language on the iPad. Apple had supposedly refused to allow this kind of app on the iDevice product range. Well not anymore. Nice to stroll down memory lane, where the world does not work at break-neck speed. Only disconcerting thing for me is the interpreters desire to autocomplete a line, even if I wish to add something to the end of the line. I can use line numbers, but it does not auto sort the order, instead it leaves them out of order., as it is not entirely dependant on the line numbers for program execution This means that a program you thought would work in line number sequence, does not. The programs are also reasonably fast, not blistering, but still not a slouch for an interpreted language. I presume future updates will help speed things up, as well as adding new functions..Version: 2.0.3

✓ ExcellentI have been looking for BASIC for iPod ever since having it on my Palm Pilot. This one is great, especially with the new full-screen editor. I have used Basic for many years - it is great for writing a quick program for tryying out ideas, yet is capable of quite complex applications. Customer support is excellent (and fast!) It could still use more instructions - a one-line FOR-NEXT and "ON x GOTO" are two examples. Hence only 4 stars at this point. But keep the updates coming! Jan/17 - It looks like this app has been abandoned by MiSoft. The forum is gone & no replies to emails ie no more support. So the remaining bugs will never get fixed. A good (free) replacement is Smart BASIC, by Mr Kibernetik. It has many more features & an excellent support forum..Version: 3.5.9

✓ Nostalgic FunI love this app! I grew up programming my old Commodore Pet using BASIC and it's great to see the iPad turn into a green screen vintage computer. There are a few little things I'd like to see changed, such as when you're coding in the editor, every time you enter a command you have to touch the screen to enter another, but that's just minor. I'm amazed at how much BASIC I can remember, and just how much fun it is to program in BASIC with this app. This is one app that is certainly worth the money. As a teacher this is an app that may be very useful in my work too! ✓ Nearly perfect.Having grown up with Microsoft's AmigaBASIC, I was able to pick up this version of basic immediately. You should be able to copy any old-school command-line basic program verbatim, and have it work, but you are able to use labels rather than line numbers if you wish, and there is a nice array of graphic and sound commands to do more interesting things. The implementation of touchscreen user input makes it a BASIC that is pretty unique to the iPhone, although it would be nice to be able to use multi-touch and accelerometer in your programs. Also, being able to access the camera, microphone and iPod library would open up whole new worlds. Having different oscillators to choose from would make this much better for making more listenable music - an 8 bit drum set would be nice....I hope v1.5 will see some of these additions, because the current version is very powerful, but has this app has the potential to be the superlative quick coding app for iOS..Version: 1.4.5

✓ Found an old friendI am in my 80’s. I got into computers and programming as soon as home computers arose. As slow as these programs ran, amazed at how fast and accurate the results were. Windows introduced object oriented operation adding more confusion etc, so I stuck with top-down C language. Computer processors grew and Basic fell into the dust, unable to run in the 32 and 64 bit processors. How nice to find this quality Basic package, I often run into mathematical projects. I could use a spread sheet, but for small or simple projects, this could be inconvenient. This Misoft Basic fills this need and conveniently runs on my iPad. Kudos to the developers..Version: 3.8.2
✓ Brilliant appWish you were back in the 80's? This is a brilliant and full implementation of BASIC with a comprehensive instruction set and a whole load of functions specific to the iPad. Access the iPad's accelerometers, sound and screen! But it's seriously useful too and not just for fun. There are full set of graphical commands, file input/output, all the trig functions so there's no limit to what you can program. I've had no problems with the program at all. Most of my library of legacy BASIC programs run with little or no modification too. There is a comprehensive Help section and several example programs to let you see how it's done. ✓ Fan-freakin'-tactic!I've had this app for a while now, and it just keeps getting better and more useful. My BASIC was a bit rusty at fitter, but now I find myself writing helpful little programs. ✓ Programmable at last!Anyone that thinks the iPad isn't a proper computer is simply wrong, and this app is one of the reasons why. Now you can write your own programs right on your iPad. Ok, you're not going to knock out the next Real Racing with it, but hobbyists can finally create their own programs from engineering calculations to adventure games. You're only limited by your imagination. This takes me right back to the golden age of Atari and Commodore in the eighties. Updates are regular and support is responsive. If you're an aging BASIC nerd like me you'll love this. If you've never programmed before, give it a try, it's wonderful. You may just get addicted! ✓ Old school fun!I just bought this app and have been having fun trying to remember my old C64 programming. It works well on the iPad. I would have given it 5 stars if only it would have had the feature as described below:- I it think would make programming easier if the text editor was altered to allow you to copy chunks of code in instead of single lines. This would allow one to cut and paste useful bits of code from other programs or from other sources and make the whole process more efficient and fun. Testing out ideas, doing calculations, or just goofing around with code - the memories come flooding back The interface for the code is a bit unexpected, but it does allow for the easy reordering of lines. It would be good though if each line did not have to be entered into it's own dialog box. It would help if you add a short explanation of what all the keywords mean along and add an interactive, step-by-step tutorial on how to use the app. Also let you use the words "to" and "and" within PRINT. ✓ A good startI am delighted to see that Apple is allowing at least BASIC on IOS for a programming language. This is a good app. I would like to see more development so the language moves towards QBasic or QuickBasic and has functions and return types. More tutorials would be nice. Exactly how is a sprite defined and loaded to the app? I would like to see it to a point where you can create an app with its own icon on the desktop. That is up to Apple and not allowed at this point. But if the tablet is going to replace computers then there should be a development language. This is a great first start..Version: 3.1

✓ Excellent and comprehensive version of BASICWhile it does appear that it does not work with iOS 8, I have every confidence that it will get fixed. Under previous iOS versions, I used it a lot to parse various log files, due to BASIC's "near natural speaking" commands are easy to remember and use. Someone once said that time heals all wounds, I'm sure that's the case with BASIC! One of my gripes with Apple is their total lack of backwards compatibility. It seems as though their attitude is, hey, if you'll just buy a new machine, you won't have these issues...... for a month or two. I would imagine it's very difficult for anyone writing IOS apps, to maintain compatibility..Version: 3.5.6
