✓ Not bad, but still requires some work.Overall, this is a nice version of backgammon, but there are a few things I'd like to see improved: 1) If you undo a doubles, you lose the doubles, it's like getting 2 of the same number, not 4. 2) You have to move the topmost piece on any point. That's just irritating. 3) It would be nice if there was an indicator that a roll can be made. After a player's made their turn, a button appearing that says "roll" would be nice. This has already replaced the board we'd used to play this, and with some improvements it could be fantastic. As it stands, though, it's merely not bad..Version: 0
✓ The game comes with baloney...The baloney is ‘the pitch’ they make about the game. Just play a few games and see for yourself. Just play the first two rolls and see ‘the fairness’ for yourself BALONEY! My earlier comments still apply... This figged game shld be pulled from the App Store. Don't believe the nonsense about the impartiality of the dice rolls, that is not what happens in this game. In practice almost every other roll is another set of doubles, or the same result as the prior roll. And of course the developer cannot let his game be defeated, so there are the constant predictable rolls when the app is losing...the last minute double sixes or double fives, ...the ever present 'in off the bar" but always including a hit on any open piece. This app never used to be so blatantly rigged but has degraded with each subsequent release, such that it is not worth playing with a cheat as an opponent. The only time any of these dice games will ever be impartial is when the 'dice roll' routine is provided by a user selected independent provider at run time, and linked in through a standard interface. ✓ FreezesThe game is good. I think the AI needs a little work. However the over-riding concern that should preclude purchase is that the game becomes unresponsive for moments or permanently. At times I would try to move the pieces and the game was slow to pick up my movements and last night it froze altogether and had to be taken off and reinstalled. I am sure the authors are aware of this response slow down and freeze and are working on it. However I would not purchase it until it is fixed..Version: 0

✓ All we want are randomized dice rolls!This backgammon is just like the rest of them…laughably predictable dice rolls to the advantage of the computer. If you leave any uncovered, they will get you. If they leave any uncovered, you won’t get them and their next roll will neatly match up so they’re covered. If they get you out in the second half of the game, there is almost zero percent chance you will roll anything to get back in. The computer gets back in on the first or second roll. What’s even funnier is that 9/10 times, you’ll get a high doubles after these little entrapments, after the computer is well on their way to bearing off. Please—just give us randomized dice rolls. Edit (after getting the developers canned response): The AI knows the upcoming dice rolls too. Which is why they know exactly which spaces to leave open because they know the human will not roll the correct dice. This happens often: the AI leaves multiple marks open (even in home) and my dice sold never allow me to hit them. The only explanation is that the program watches the upcoming rolls and adjusts accordingly..Version: 5.05
✓ A big disappointmentWith its history and credentials, this game should be dominating the multimillion dollar backgammon app community. Instead, it’s a mess. Online play against random opponents does not work. No matches. It uses Game Center which is the old way of doing things and I have yet to be matched with one opponent. Standardized backgammon rankings are absent. No customer support option is offered. With all these deficits, this is one of the only apps which charges a fee to download. What is more is that it then asks you to make in-app purchases on top of the original cost. What a shame! Were this app offered for free, it would achieve the critical mass of members needed to have online matches. Then it could charge for extras — like standardized backgammon rankings, and all the frills on which other games are making a killing. Or ... just license out your credentials to one of the companies that is doing this right. I’m sure this is all well-intentioned but it is clear there is no sense of how to make a viable app in today’s “free economy” (where they can make obscene profits (good!) and give us the game we want))..Version: 4.39

✓ Cheater!!!I've played this game over and over becasue I like backgammon, but be forewarned, the game is a huge CHEAT!!!! Every game starts with a short note warning you that it appears the game is cheating by playing with loaded dice..... BECAUSE IT IS!!!! This game will definitley challenge your skills as a player as you try to plan different strategies, but no matter which strategy you play, the dice almost ALWAYS work in the game's favour. Yes you will win games, but the game will frustrate you when it constantly pins you deep with many rolls to get back in, and when you think you have it pinned deep, it ALWAYS finds a way out within a couple of rolls. I would have rated it lower that the 3-stars but I like backgammon and this game allows for quick matches and I play it a number of times every day..Version: 4.02

✓ Don’t buyThis is a good app if you don’t have enough aggravation in your life. I have never been connected to an available player online, therefore, I’m left to play the computer. I’ve won plenty of games, but on any given day, it’s a bit ridiculous. If you find it fun to play 4-5 games in a row where every roll is the worst possible; often yielding the only combination that leaves you vulnerable. The computer immediately rolls multiple doubles that manage to hit you and cover up open points, and wall you in. I don’t have a problem losing a game, but it’s boring to repeatedly have games with the same, bizarre results. Try rolling two dice and see how often you can roll 5-6 times and not manage to get one 2 or 3 or 4. I was hoping for more realistic outcomes than what you get with a free app..Version: 5.09
✓ Loaded dice!!!!!This app was good to start with but the more you play the more the computer starts to win with lots of doubles and rolls that are hits every time you have a piece open. It is very frustrating to lose over and over to constant rolls of doubles and it seems the only time you roll doubles is when you are out and cannot use them . ✓ It’s a shame. There must be a better app.I really enjoy the game however the “random“ dice generator is simply not believable. I’ve just been playing and the computers opening throws were double 1 twice followed by double 2. It’s not that the computer always benefits from the dice. Quite the opposite, the computer often loses because of it, which is also frustrating as it’s reduces the impact of skill in the game. As another reviewer advised, I often abandon games because it’s no longer fun. I can’t believe this this problem cannot be solved. I have been playing backgammon all my life and you get a feel for the way the dice fall and sometimes it’s laughable. I don’t play the game to win but to keep up my skills and so I take amusement from the ridiculous luck the computer someone has. As a game I write down the unlikely dice needed to gain an advantage, before the throw and low and behold, the complete get the exact dice. Best not to take it seriously. ✓ Programming IssuesSince the update to 5.0.2, I notice a situation when playing the computer and the human wins the first roll, when you touch the screen to make your move, the dice roll again allowing the computer to move first. Happens maybe 15% of the time. It also has occurred a few times later in the game. And now today, the computer was moving pieces off the board. It had a blot on #5 and #6. It rolled a 6-4 and moved both pieces from the board! I was stunned as I sensed that this has happened before but dismissed it thinking I imagined it. It was a strategic moment in the game as I had a piece on the bar and couldn’t believe it risked leaving the 2 blots unnecessarily..Version: 5.02

The number of time the computer wins the first roll is not true to life, give you Double 6 when you need to get back on the board is ridiculous, it forces you to leave open singles and you can guarantee it will roll the correct dice to kick you off, also you can guarantee it will get the correct dice to get back on board within 3-4 rolls while it can take you up to 10.Version: 4.35
✓ Non-random rollsIn the “causal mode” the play appears fair, but the computer makes poor choices and is easy beaten. In the “advanced mode” this program consistently gets the better rolls. It wins the initial roll about 80% of the time. The computer rolls more doubles and uses them to rapidly block out it’s inner house. The human will always get odd rolls that force an unfavorable split. This pattern is so predictable that it cannot be random. If you want to win, you can simply peak at the next few rolls (as the program does) before choosing your next move. If you reinstall the app, it takes about a dozen games before it learns to cheat. ✓ Dice get loaded against you fairly regularlyI won’t repeat what others have already posted, but the dice definitely get tilted toward the computer. I feel like I’m going crazy with how one-sided it can get, and have pulled up the dice projections, to check. The recurring theme is that, the computer will win the toss (80% of the time) and then load their end within 5 moves. And I think that’s it, the dice follow the projection, it’s just that the computer gets a very favorable set of projected dice. I admit I like the game, but once the computer starts winning the toss irregularly, you know there’s nothing you can do about it..Version: 4.37

But what I have learned is always ask yourself what is the one roll that could really ruin you, either for your roll or your opponent? Because that’s what is going to happen, almost every time. It won’t work in your favor. Always against you. The only thing that could save your opponent is a big set of doubles? Here it comes! The only way you can lose is an unlikely run of 1-3 and 1-2 rolls? Guess what you are about to roll. ✓ Not really randomThe developer insists that because you can see the programmed dice rolls ahead of time that the rolls must be random. However, I believe that the AI learns what moves you are likely to make with your rolls, which it knows based on the dice list. It then fills in the computer rolls based on your typical moves. I was playing at the medium level and winning most of the time at first. Then went to expert mode to see how it differed. Won most of the time at first, but now not very often. I believe the AI has me figured out and plans the rolls accordingly. Only true fair way to play is manually. UPDATE. Done with this one and not wasting my time. ✓ This game is a cheatThere is no way in the world that the dice are generated randomly. When the game needs a double (or even 2 or 3 doubles in a row) it gets them. It is so predictable when it will happen (even my wife who hasn't played backgammon before can't believe it!). You can be on-top and near guaranteed a win and hit the doubling cube and it will pull doubles out to win (therefore hardly any reason to actually double in the first place!). Also if you have one single checker it will usually (8 out of 10 times I calculated) get the right dice to get you and then it will only let you get that checker back on the board when it wants you too (and not before). Two of us have calculated these chances and the possibilities don't stack up (there is no way these dice are random). For example, what are the chances of getting double 6 in a game let alone 3 double 6's in a row followed by another double to win when the cube was on 8 ... these stats are unprobable. PLEASE, PLEASE provide a game with a truly random dice. If you want I can record a game where I will tell you what the game will get to prove my point..Version: 3.01

✓ Biased towards the computer.I read the reviews and decided to give it a go as I’ve tried most of the other free apps and fine they too are biased. The developer says there is no point pleasure developing an app that always wins, this may be true but in the development there must be a point when a decision is made as to how smart is the computer is going to be. ✓ Don’t waste your $2.99Played about 50 games in 2 days. I’d say the computer has won 90% of the time, and I’m a great player. The computer rolls double after double, I’m constantly rolling a 2 and 1. I’m deleting this one and downloading another. Updated review: I gave this one a second change. Also noticed that when I select the hard setting, the bots seem to get better rollls and more doubles but doesn’t play as aggressive. It’s a choice between what feels “unfair” and what feels a little too easy. Developer (and other folks) say it’s impossible to rig the game to the benefit of the computer. The 5 spot is empty. 3 spot has 1 black chip. Game will allow me to play 5 to the empty spot but won’t allow me to play three and knock off the one black chip. This was not the first time the game would not allow me the option to move a chip to an allowable spot - empty or filled with one of the opponents chip. Very frustrating to have a move and be unable to make it because of flaw that system can’t see the move. You can almost put money on what the AI will roll - exactly what it needs to either cover a singleton, land on your singleton or a double. The players rolls do seem to be random - although very few doubles. Again, you can predict that once it’s too late in a game - the AI just about to go out or as you are bearing off but only have s few pegs left- THATS when you’ll get a double 5 or 6. Also very predictable that as you are bearing off you will get at least one low number every go just to slow you down. Very disappointing that to make a level harder, the AI doesn’t make smarter moves based on strategy or probability - the game simply cheats and leaves you frustrated. Shame. ✓ The way these dice roll is ridiculousHaving played this game for quite a while I can definitely say that the developer has changed the equation. It’s mostly all to do with how many games the computer will allow you to win before it will win time and time again regardless of the improbable chance of it throwing the numbers! FOUR doubles in a row after doubling…..yeah that really happens….keeping two blots off the board even though you have three points available for SIX throws whilst the other side sorts itself out? And meanwhile he will have one point available and slot everything on it that you knock off time after time? His favourite technique for winning is keeping a knocked off blot off the board whilst he is bearing off until half or more of his are off, even though half the points are available, and then let you back in on 6 so you can’t do a thing. Real games rarely work this way so consistently. Unfortunately it has become an unrealistic game as I really used to enjoy playing it, and don’t believe the whole try with ‘try with your own dice’ thing….Version: 5.06
✓ QuestionableAfter playing around one hundred games, here’s what I’ve recorded: When playing the computer, it will win almost every first roll, about 5:1. The computer will also roll more doubles about 5:1 as well. These dice rolls have nothing to do with player strategy, they are supposed to be random rolls of the dice and should be as random as real dice rolls. Take a real set of dice and roll them for one hundred games and your opponent will not roll doubles approximately 5 times to your one. And, they will not win first rolls approximately five times to your one. But the biggest thing that reveals that the rolls are not random, is the fact that there is NEVER a first roll tie! Never. If the rolls were truly random, first roll ties would occur statistically , and they don’t. Period. Try it and see..Version: 4.37

I may be just playing badly because it is so distracting to play. You have to ask it to roll the dice every time, even when the other player (the computer) is done. There are numerous examples of things like that that simply slow every game down to a snail's pace, and when I'm playing backgammon on a phone I want it to be quick and painless. ✓ Why do the dice change?I’ve played 100 plus games in True Backgammon and I’ve seen about ten times where one die changes while a player is contemplating a move. Sometimes it’s to the players benefit sometimes not. Why is this happenings? Thanks for the response, but: Here’s the latest on the random dice change: I now state the die values after the roll, out loud, and in one game alone, three separate times after I rolled my dice, one die changes. It’s usually a six to a four. Others have changed as well. Sometimes it benefits me and other times not. I don’t believe this is deliberate but you have a coding error/glitch. My wife has witnessed it too. Also, as I noticed the human rarely winning the opening dice roll, I started keeping track and over 100 games the computer won 88 of them. It can’t be that random. It’s a really good app and I’ve played over 400 games against it but you have bugs in your system like it or not..Version: 5.08
✓ Cannot transfer from Mac to iPadThis is a good game. Clear and well-structured. I bought it on my Mac and assumed that it could be transferred to my iPad. It cannot. When I found it impossible I phoned Apple - it cannot be done, Apple also suggested that I told the seller of the game that this was very poor. It is. The game is worth 4.5 stars and this lack of flexibility worth one star. Hence the 3! I like the game and have had to pay twice. Clever but really unfortunate..Version: 4.39

✓ Frustrated but hookedI loved playing this game when I was in high school and recently found that love again. I’ve downloaded most of the backgammon apps and by far this app is the best. That being said, I believe that the app has a huge problem. The dice favor the computer. Every once in a while a notice comes up about how their algorithm is not in favor of the computer but that is not true. The mere fact that the notice appears shows that too many players believe otherwise. I play a lot and it is too coincidental that the opponent ALWAYS gets the perfect move. I believe the computer lets us win once in a while to make us come back to play but the dice are loaded. 😬.Version: 4.35
✓ Sorry developer….computer dice get WAY too many breaksI paid my app fee thinking this version would have more integrity in the algorithms for computer versus my rolls. Countless times the computer magically gets doubles just when it needs to edge ahead of me. Or rolls that are too just fortuitous to believe. The developer keeps putting a message in the app swearing this isn’t true yet I see zero evidence of “fairness” when playing the computer. It takes away the enjoyment of the game when I’m playing well and ahead but then the computer quickly gets the miracle dice rolls to move ahead. Sorry, I had better luck with the “free versions “ despite their advertising. This game is just too frustrating. And the developer keeps hearing it from users but nothing changes..Version: 5.06
✓ Longtime userI withheld judgement on the fairness of the dice to get a long term analysis. Ridiculous to claim the this works entirely at random - pay attention next time you leave a piece exposed - like clockwork the computer gets you, try gaining a substantial lead and then use auto finish… say all pieces at home with computer having 5 pieces outstanding; simple probability says you would win in this scenario more often than not, however with this app the opposite is true, computer wins probably 7 out of 10 times rolling multiple doubles in a row every time. Also the number of times the opening rolls are matching is preposterous not to mention the subsequent rolls often coming up as doubles. You can literally predict that if you get ahead the dice will immediately favor the computer by falling in perfectly favorable ways to very specific moves. Used to be good now it’s junk and not a good way to practice and relate to the real game as strategy here is based on knowing if you leave a piece open the computer will get you virtually every time..Version: 5.02
✓ Statistically ImprobableIf you play this game long enough you will be left scratching your head. The computer gets way too many perfect rolls. In addition if you are trying to get a token back onto the board..... the computer has 2 positions blocked. Odds are 1 in 3 rolls should get you back in play. I have consistently rolled 5 plus times to get back in play. Consistently. The computer rarely has this issue. As a matter of fact it rarely goes to 3 attempts for the computer to renter a token when 5 of six spots are blocked. ✓ Frustrating... yet another al biased game!Our desire for a decent fair game app to pass away spare time for pleasure leads us into the same old trap. We want a game app to behave as a human, yet it isn’t possible in my opinion. It’s a computer, a machine which can only work/respond on any form of human input. It cannot think (like a human). It calculates from your input and responds accordingly (not always). Dice numbers are 1-6, how random can It get? I had installed a very good card game app which had lots of different games to play. Everything about the app was excellent, super smooth graphics and gameplay apart from the al. It played like it knew every card in my hand. I’ve now accepted however good the game is in idea or graphics, it will never, never give you a fair game, and my failure as a human is, I keep on searching..Version: 4.37
✓ Great but unfairAs per other reviews the computer definitely gets better dice rolls. I play the whole time and I’ve only seen the computer have the first roll, it’s always me for some reason. Secondly it’s started to glitch. For example it left one of my pieces off the board when setting up and I couldn’t move it. But when I tried to take my pieces off it wouldn’t let me because not all my pieces were home (but I couldn’t touch that piece). I know they say they have a button to change the dice sequence and I often press that but that doesn’t mean the computer can’t use a way of working out the future moves and the best possible dice. I beat the computer a lot more with a manual dice..Version: 5.06
✓ Not a fun way to play backgammonThis game feels more like playing slots than backgammon - it’s all chance and no strategy and clearly weighted in favor of the house. Rolls and moves are fairly predictable and, more often than not: (1) the computer will win the 1st roll, (2) the computer will quickly block your two checkers in their home board, (3) if your checker is exposed and there is only one possible roll for the computer to knock it out, the computer will roll that combination, (4) if your checker is on the bar, no matter how many possible rolls would put you back on the board, it will take you multiple turns to get off the bar, and (5) you will roll more doubles when your checker is on the bar (and the doubles can’t be used) than at any other time during the game..Version: 5.09
