True Backgammon for Positive User Reviews

Great gameGreat game.Version: 4.33

Excellent.!I’ve been using this app for a number of years now and have played 1000’s of games and have learnt a lot from playing it. I recommend expert level, fast speed, first to 5, it hones your game..Version: 4.37

Enjoyably for an eveningAttractive looking game with nice sounds. It’s not that the dice rolls are rigged as one can play through in the sure certainty they are randomly generated thanks to the ability to preview the dice rolls in advance playing against the computer. It’s just that it appears the AI also knows the dice rolls in advance and plays accordingly. Therefore the only way to play this game is to make a note of all the dice rolls coming and play accordingly. Totally boring and futile..Version: 4.39

Unfair losses. O sound after upgradeVery interesting but instantly after first opportunity computer gets unbelievable trows exacrly to fit the need. Otherwise very happy. M..Version: 4.30

Very goodI am an expert player with over 30 years experience with this game and mediterranean versions of it. I have tried all the games i found on the app store and this is one of the better ones. The dice are not skewed and the play is straight forward. The layout is excellent, no wasted space, it's all about the game, no b.s. Sometimes it feels a tad slow and i would prefer to have one touch automatic moves. Played in the real world, this game can and should move fast but this one sometimes feels like it's made for old people and little kids..Version: 2.01

PerfectThis is the best electronic version of backgammon I have come across. There are times that the software seems extraordinarily lucky. I’m not sure if that is built in or not. The randomness of dice throws seems to be in favour of the software. Maybe I’m a sore loser..Version: 5.06

Cheating diceI don’t care what the developer might say, these dice are not random. I play a LOT, and I can count. The odds of hitting a particular open point on your outer table are 17%. But the dice allow the computer to make that roll at about 80% of yhe time. And, they provide lots of other low-odds moves on certain games, but not all. Couldn’t be too obvious. I figure if I can beat the game with cheating dice half the time, I must be doing ok anyway. And, I object to getting an offer for some ultimate dice engine for extra $$, when I am already being cheated..Version: 4.39

Backgammon AppGreat game. I have never played before and bought this iPad version to learn to play it. Has lots of alternative options but I stay with the standard configuration. I have become a bit of an expert and win one in three games against the computer at the moment - depends on how the dice are rolled! It has been a great learning experience and challenge and I enjoy it very much..Version: 4.30

Minimalist gaming excellenceClassic game with a minimalist style format the way gaming should be... perfect.Version: 4.35

THE BEST DIGITAL BACKGAMMON BOARD FOR IOS1. It has the BEST looking boards on the platform, 2. It is the only backgammon app I know where the individual checkers can be dragged from one place to another, making it more realistic, enhancing the experience 3. The green dots which indicate where the checkers can go are unobtrusive and great for helping beginners and advanced players alike 4. The dice is not biased, it is as random as can be, one can even replace it with one’s own dice if one has any issues. 5. I have bought a few of the dlc, the orient boards, the leather board, the bg blitz tutor and ai, all of them worth it, every board has a unique feel to it and makes the numerous games feel fresh. The ai tutor is extremely helpful and it can be set to only show the best moves you could’ve played when asked! Obviously, there could be improvements made, but they are minor and do not detract from the rating If there is one thing I’d like, it would be a detail and resolution increase for the existing boards That’s all for this review, it is worth every penny.Version: 5.09

Very good.....except for expert.First things first, this is the best digital backgammon game I’ve played............as long as you don’t play expert. The advanced level plays as I have come to expect from playing this game for decades. Sometimes it goes for you, sometimes not. Good fun. The expert level is ridiculous. Every time you leave a stone on its own, it’s hit. Every time you only have one open hole for it to get in, it gets in every time, first time. If you’re hit and half it’s board is open it takes at least three throws to get in. Doubles galore when it finishes. Every time it needs to cover.........you get the message. I know the programmer will say the dice are preset, but you can still preset favorable dice. Despite this, very happy with the game..Version: 4.39

Really enjoyableWell presented options in the game with a good AI opponent.Version: 5.09

Great app butI love this app, the backgammon game is great but man oh man, the dices are loaded … every time I play the computer and I get a winning streak going the computer starts throwing doubles or just the right dice to get out of trouble and the next thing you know, it came from behind and won the game … I have even recorded some of the computer moves and it’s pretty amazing at how lucky it is to throw so many doubles… any way the game keeps me entertained and it’s a good app.. who knows may be the next update will make the computer act more like a human and not be so lucky.Version: 5.07

Great implementationThis really feels like playing backgammon on a board, with the multi-touch and the sound effects. AI not bad, but probably not challenging enough for a pro..Version: 2.01

Oh really? This is the best backgammon app I have come across so far. However to claim the dice roll is random is a wish. I have analysed the dice roll in advanced game mode against the computer. The number of doubles the computer gets is close to 6:4 the double it gets is ‘routinely’ of a higher value. Doubles are such a huge bonus in this game. Nonetheless as I say, the best I have tried so far..Version: 5.07

Nice backgammon gameDice seem fair to me - you can even see all the dice rolls ahead of time if you want to or roll your own dice. It’s a nice implementation too (looks good and plays smoothly) and I’ve tried lots of crappy backgammon apps to get to this one. Overall, a good job. The purchase of the extra AI and tutor mode make it even more worth while. (A quick guide to what all the numbers mean when it rates your performance would be useful). I would also like to input my own dice seed so I can replay the exact same game again - that would be highly useful. Thanks, :).Version: 5.09

Dice don't seem right, but great gameGreat game. Simple and clean. No ads. Tutor function is great. This was perfect for me. However... I know the developer is likely doing all the right things, but the dice do not seem 100% right. I am tempted to record the dice rolls over the course of 100 games or so to see if I can "prove" this, to myself mostly (and my doubting spouse too). The "problem" I notice is repeat rolls. I somewhat frequently (1-2x per game, maybe more) get the same roll repeated 2-3x. So my rolls will be 1-6, then 1-6, then 1-6 again. I was never good at likelihoods/stats, but I understand there is a good chance of this occurring - it's not as rare as one might think. (Maybe 12.5% chance?) It just doesn't seem like it should happen quite as much as it does. I know how this sounds, but I swear it happens too frequently for the randomizer to be working correctly. Ok, ok, I'm probably wrong. It could be what is frustrating is just how frequent dice rolls can screw up a well-played strategy. This isn't much of a game of strategy - it is both some strategy and chance. I've never played on the most difficult setting, but I'm sure it would trounce me, even after a few hundred games using the tutor function. (Tutor function is like 90% great, 10% overly intrusive.) Great game. But the dice do feel fishy. I wish they didn't!.Version: 4.37

Nice engine, curious diceI know the developer has commented on the fairness of the dice engine in the past. And if I was even an average player, I would likely concede them a fairness level. Ive now played several 3 game matches against the computer and am holding my own but in the losses, I get hammered with rare dice (2 in 36 chance thrre times in a row with exactly what the computer needs) on TOO MANY occasions. And when I hope to be as fortunate and get out of jail on my first roll (with identical coverage), I seem to rarely get out. I’m not convinced the engine is fair dice, sorry. I still like the game but....Version: 5.02

Only one little niggleI am enjoying playing this AI and, unlike others, feel sure that it “plays fair”. What I criticize is the AI’s use of the doubling dice - it seems to work only on the pip count and doesn’t take account of the position on the board. Several times it has accepted a double because it has an advantage in the race even though it was trapped behind a prime. It then resigns a couple of throws later. Otherwise excellent..Version: 5.05

Best I’ve seenThis is the best backgammon out there by far, IMO, for several reasons: 1. The UI. The pieces, board, and sounds are great. I can “feel” the smooth, heavy pieces as I slide them across the board. You can also tap and touch to move. 2. The choices. You can play black or white, left-to-left or right-to-right, single games or matches, with another player or alone. 3. The computer opponent. You can set it to beginner to advanced, and it doesn’t “cheat” by giving you too much of an advantage or getting too lucky with the dice. I beat the advanced setting maybe 60% of the time, which is a satisfying percentage. FWIW, I have not encountered the issues with the dice rolls described by other reviewers. Sometimes in a real game, dice rolls can be funny—turning up the same combination two or even three times in a row. That rarely happens when I play. All in all, an excellent app! ETA: After playing for a while, I am now getting a bit suspicious about the randomness of the dice. I played a game in which the computer rolled doubles 7 times in a row, out of a total of 13 rolls. In the next game, I rolled 5-2 four times in a row. Maybe this is not statistically suspicious, but it does make me wonder..Version: 4.39

Solid version of the game.I’d give it 5 stars if it did stats (this might also let see that on average you’ll get equal doubles). also occasionally the game will freeze after i have viewed details on suggested better move.Version: 4.37

Good gameThis is very entertaining even for a good player. It lacks a few touches, such as doubling if you roll the same dice in the beginning, using the max number of die points when taking out, and London rules like beavers and raccoons. But despite those three details, I play this a lot because it is fun also for someone who plays a lot. Peter.Version: 5.06

Not a fair dice thrower. We have played 5000 games on this app And the random dice is clearly not random. The Program clearly also knows in advance the dice you will throw and the dice it will throw in advance 70% of the time. The user interface is great but after a while you never want to play this game again..Version: 4.33

Great backgammon gameThis is a great backgammon app to play. During play the graphics and user interface are just like a real backgammon board. Dragging the pieces around (on the iPad) is very intuitive and there is a tap-to-move interface that is functional for the smaller iPhone screen. There are three skill levels you can choose from. I used to find the previous version too easy to beat, but I like the "expert" level in this new version because it plays a nice strong game. I can still beat it about half the time, so (unlike what other reviewers claim) it is certainly possible to win. I even hope a future release will have an option to increase the difficulty even further, to make it even more challenging! Backgammon is partially a game of skill and partially a game of chance. Set it to a level that you like to play at. The only negative with this app is that the user interface for the setup and options are very text based rather than icon based - they are very clear and functional, but it would be nicer if they were more visually oriented and less used options are hidden away. But during game play you don't see these buttons. During game play you are just immersed in the game... and that is what makes it great..Version: 3.01

SuspectI have been playing this game for a while and it cheats, too often to be random..Version: 4.20

Great gameVery good if you want to improve as a player. However after playing over a hundred games the computer is favoured. The programme tends to roll the dice that will give you no option but to leave a chip unprotected. When this happens the computer will roll the exact number required to take you. In the last game I played the computer they was had 1 chip that had been removed and the computer left 1 chip in it’s home area unprotected. This chip remained unprotected for 3 rolls of the dice and then the computer was able to protect it. When a chip of mine is unprotected it is taken on the next roll of the dice. This does improve you as a player because you know that the computer will not let you take a chance. Overall I think it was a good purchase as I continue to play it on a daily basis, it can be a bit frustrating though when you have built a very strong position only to be undone by unfavourable roll of the dice though..Version: 5.07

Wow!I’ve finally end my research for my next backgammon partner and teacher. An after my first backgammon match I can say WOW! 🤩. During my research I’ve consider many app with: 1. Great customer service: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟. Marcus answer all my email questions promptly even if I didn’t buy is app yet and he give really good answer. 2. Artificial Intelligence (AI): Didn’t not test it yet, but after my research about BGBlitz I’m convinced that I’ve found a strong Tutor and adversary to have fun with it for long time. 3. Tutor: I’m looking for a mentor to bring my Game to the next level and many more. I’m confident that BGBlitz tutor is my new tutor, only the futur will tell because I didn’t try it yet. 4. Best experience for playing on my new Apple M1 iPad Pro 12.5 inch 2021 5th generation: The graphics are so nice and the board look like a real board, like if I’m playing on a real board without any distraction. So simple to use. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️. 5. Amazing dices system available, a real random dice system and you can also use your special real lucky dice if you like, so no more wasted time discussing about the dices system cheating and more fun playing backgammon after all, backgammon is a game to have fun. 💫 💫 💫 💫 💫. I will update my review in the futur. I really hope a long life to Marcus and True Backgammon. Thank you so much Marcus for your help and to program this amazing True Backgammon App. HO! And one more thing: The welcoming tutorial when you lunch the App is so well done. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️..Version: 5.07

This is not a fair gameWhen you choose advance setting against the computer, the opponent move should be the best move and I get that. But I believe the dice should be random. In this game, all the dice is controlled. This is not a fair game. When your chips cleared each other and you are in a race to finish, the computer gets three doubles in a row and you get 1-3 four times in a row!! You've got to be kidding! that makes you feel like you're cheated. It is not under the random fair game but rather playing against "difficulty" level of dice Ai. I like backgammon so I give one extra star for this app..Version: 4.20

Passes the time and that’s it really! If you play the program game, it isn’t one of chance and luck. The program generated moves are predictable and work in favour of itself. In appearance and in speed, this is a good app but the predictable behaviour of program generated moves leaves much to be desired..Version: 5.02

Extra AI Available At A Cost For ExpertsI tried three other apps before falling on this one. The other apps were too simple or had technical glitches. This app is simple to use and the dice roll appear to be fair. The hardest level is moderately challenging to the expert, but a harder AI can be purchased for $3.99. For the expert, it’s totally worth the cost. It’s quite challenging and I’m winning only 1/3 of the matches. At the included hard level I won half, and anything below that I won 95%. Additional boards can be purchased for $0.99. They’re not necessary but add some interest to the game..Version: 4.38

ExcellentI've played against many Backgammon apps, and have walked away from all of them either because of a poor interface or in some cases the ridiculously "fortuitous" and highly coincidental rolls that the computer would get, often over a long sequence of rolls. I've been playing this app for several days now, and have enjoyed it immensely. The interface is well thought out, provides multiple options for playing a match, and most importantly I've never once felt that the dice rolls were anything other than random. Yes, the computer does get some lucky rolls, and I can get some unlucky sequences of rolls, but the same happens in reverse and it appears to be balanced overall as you might expect. I particularly appreciate the developer's proactive and honest approach. He is clearly very passionate about this app, and goes "above and beyond" to help users understand his approach. I'm going to offer some suggestions for improvements, but this is more about ways that it can be made even better: - sometimes the interface can be slow to respond. For example, in high-low mode I may have to touch a stone several times before it moves. This may be about the touch position rather than responsiveness as such. - the time for long presses (e,g, initiating autoplay) seems to be extraordinarily long (may be related to the first point). - for high-low mode, it might be easier to allow the user to touch anywhere on a point rather than a specific stone, and then move the top stone. - it would be nice to have cumulative scores to plot progress over several matches with a particular opponent (including the computer)..Version: 5.03

Better than most but dice don’t seem fair.Computer consistently gets exact rolls it needs in almost every scenario. I have had 5 of 6 points covered when putting opponent’s piece on the ledge and 80% of the time, opponent rolls the exact number necessary to get back in AND take an uncovered piece of mine in the SW quadrant. Also, if the dice are truly random, why are there 3 skill levels? Random dice are random, right? Computer wins opening roll ¾ of the time and rolls doubles at least 3x more than the player. Computer consistently gets a 66 when there is a close race to finish..Version: 5.00

Fun to play, but...Been playing this game for years, but since disabling the doubling cube a few months ago, I win waaaaay more often against the BGBlitz-2 engine. I know the developer will have some technical explanation for why this is so, but I’m just saying you’ll find this game much more fun to play *without* using the doubling cube. Obviously, the BGBlitz engine uses this to its advantage. I’ve read everything this developer has written regarding proof of random dice throws, and I accept it as honest. However, perhaps it’s psychological, but this game just ‘feels’ rigged, and I guarantee you will never quit a game as often as this one...just sayin’. And I should add that I quit even when up 4-0 in a match to 5 playing against the BGBlitz-2 engine...that’s just how skewed it ‘feels’ sometimes. Only someone familiar with the opening scene in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” could accept the “randomness” of these rolls..Version: 5.13

Everything is perfect except for…This backgammon game could be the best one if it weren’t for one small detail: moving the checkers requires pointing to a specific checker rather than just the whole point (triangle) where the checker is. This makes it cumbersome to use. It requieres too much fine motor coordination. It is especially tricky to use on a small screen or on a triangle that has many checkers. I think the solution is simple, when using the high-low move mode, the interface should work by just clicking on the triangles (this is the same way in which Backgammon NJ operates and it’s much easier to use). But apart from this interface issue, I really like True Backgammon: it plays very well (particularly with the BGBlitz extension), the interface is simple and well thought out, and analyses and recommendations it provides are strong and useful. If the interface was fixed in the way I mention, this would be the best backgammon app for the serious players, above NJ and XG..Version: 5.20

BrilliantThe AI feature has improved my game massively and I’m enjoying playing like never before, the only reason this isn’t 5 stars is that I’m unable to get a network game as it never matches me with anyone, also I don’t know if it’s possible but if the AI could explain why one move is better than another it would add another layer to the coaching aspect.Version: 4.35

Great appWell designed and enjoyable to use..Version: 5.08

Roll your own diceIn critical situations, for the love of God, roll your own dice. If you don’t, the program will get exactly what it needs almost every time. If the computer needs a double of a specific number to save itself, it will almost always roll it. I’ve had this happen too many times to be random chance. I took statistics in college, so I’m not an idiot..Version: 5.07

Dice is loaded to favor game! This game is constantly frustrating because it is so heavily biased in favour of the computer to win. Once you get knocked of the board, it takes an average of 7-10 rolls (or more!!) to get back on, while computer gets back on immediately with favoured dice, usually doubles. The 3 different levels are a bit of a joke, from exceedingly simple & childlike to just more and more loaded dice favouring the computer. The game also seems programmed to give computer lots of doubles when bearing off at end of game. And I have never rolled so many doubles and double 6's when bumped off and trying to get back on the board. Very rarely have I seen a game so heavily slanted in favour of computer. I give it 2 stars for being pretty and having a few nice features..Version: 4.02

Top gameI can concur that the dice are not loaded with this game. I’m as lucky as the computer! Also I like the human to human option ! Great App. Davo.Version: 4.35

Simply the bestStylish, uncluttered graphics (I use the leather look - in-app purchase) and an elegant user interface that’s really nicely thought through. Easy to view/play on my pretty small IPhone 6 when out and about. My wife and I play over Bluetooth on two iPads whilst relaxing in the same room and it works great. My only gripe is that when connecting our iPads together over Wi-Fi, the connection is lost every few seconds, for some reason, but we found that if we switch off Wi-Fi on both iPads, the app seems to default to Bluetooth and the connection is rock solid. The single player AI is as difficult as you like and the learning mode (in app purchase) is nicely implemented too - giving advice on what it reckons would’ve been a better move, after you’ve taken your turn, and allowing you to follow the advice or not. Only thing I’d like to see added is an audio ‘ping’ to let you know when your opponent has confirmed their move, and it’s now your turn, but I’m splitting hairs - If you enjoy backgammon or want to learn, this app sets the standard imo..Version: 5.09

Very nice but interface needs workThis is a very nice game but it’s not my go-to backgammon game (I play exclusively against the computer right now). I much prefer the one-tap movement found in the backgammon app by Adikus than the tap-tap movement in this app. You wouldn't think fewer taps would be a big deal but it really is, the other app’s interface is smoother and I can fly through a game in half the time. The other app also has the undo button on the screen, I don’t have to expose hidden buttons to undo a move. I’d like to be a better player so I’m intrigued by the BGBlitz tutor but I won’t buy it because I find this app’s interface somewhat annoying. This game is prettier though. I’m not a good enough player to comment on the relative strengths of their engines..Version: 4.33

StraightforwardSimple design. Easy to use. No ads..Version: 5.00

Great game - good-looking too!I tried out several backgammon games before settling on this one. I’ve been playing it for several years now and still enjoy the battle of wits with the computer. It is entirely fair - the dice roll really is random, as you can check by rolling real dice and comparing the results over a run of games. No ads, no interruptions, and the classic wooden board is very pleasant to play on..Version: 5.06

Finally a Fair and Enjoyable Backgammon App!I have tried several Backgammon apps and this is the best. The developer’s explanation and proof that the dice throws are fair has been backed up by the several games I have played so far. Also, the user interface is clean and easy to use. Highly recommended..Version: 5.04

Can you add player stats? This game is certainly way better than the other backgammon apps available. For one thing it is less fussy and the interface is more attractive. It is also less fussy in other ways. It would be even better if it supplied stats, i.e. games won by player and by the iPad. It was a feature of the only other backgammon app I liked (but that was only iPhone and anyway was not developed for IoS 10 and above, so I could no longer use it.) Could a future version have such player stats?.Version: 5.00

Great app!!This app is fun, fair and a good way to learn the game. I’m a beginner and have tried many backgammon apps. This one is the best I’ve tried…no distracting ads, graphics, and nice layout. One thing I’ve noticed reading reviews of this and many other apps is that backgammon players always seem to believe the apps are cheating them. I have to admit I saw some weird patterns myself in another app I played. But this one seems to have no motivation to cheat and the developer has gone out of his way to show that he isn’t including the option to roll your own dice. I read some words of wisdom that placing your checkers in the best position gives your rolls the most chance of leading to good outcomes. Makes sense to me! In my opinion this app is well worth the small fee..Version: 5.09

Big Fan unless....I am a big fan of the program and layout with the following provisions 1. It needs a resign function that allows the opponent to reject the resignation. Shouldn’t be able to resign a game for one point if an obvious backgammon will happen. 2. I do not believe the dice as as random at the BGBlitz levels. In order to achieve a harder game, the appear to have given the computer better rolls. It may be a test of ones ability, but not a fair one..Version: 4.38

ExcellentOnly backgammon app with real dice throws. Am 28 -7 in 5 point matches and loving it online against people.Version: 5.20

Excellent backgammon game, ignore the whinersEVERY backgammon game on the App Store have a huge amount of reviews complaining about “the computer cheats.” As someone who played backgammon frequently as a child on a physical board and dice, while it can sometimes FEEL like things are rigged, that’s not at all the case. Developer of this app goes out of their way to prove this, even though it doesn’t really add any value to the playability. Speaking of playability, it’s fantastic. Graphics look excellent, animations are smooth, and sounds are spot on. You just can’t go wrong for less than 5 bucks, especially since they don’t collect ANY user data..Version: 5.09

Great game!!First of I don’t understand why people say computer has an advantage. It doesn’t! Computer is just better at calculating the moves. As it has been said there is an option to check the randomness of the dice. And guess what it’s random. I played backgammon for years and I think this is a great game. As long as you know what you are doing it’s a perfect app. There are some parts of the app that I don’t enjoy like the need to constantly press dice after each move even when I blocked the opponent. Or when I come back to the game I have to first check if it’s a new game or an old one. But those are very random things that it’s more me than the app itself. I’m just picky 😭 otherwise. Really recommended!! To top it all of. It doesn’t track you. Win 🥇.Version: 5.02

Good fun......most of the time.I enjoy the game even though the computer player definitely appears to have home advantage when it comes to rolling the dice. As an example, if you leave any counters exposed the computer rapidly finds a roll of the dice which means they’ll be taken off the board. In the reverse case it seldom happens as quickly. Trying to find your way back onto the board by landing on the computer player’s counter seems nigh on impossible. More often than not, if you ensure you don’t leave any counters vulnerable then you will have a very good chance of victory. However, if you play a slightly riskier game you will quickly find the computer player advances to a position of unassailable strength taking your counters quicker than you can say “are the dice rigged?”. Overall, it’s good fun but I find myself using the ‘Resign Game’ option very frequently as you can see what’s going to happen. This obviously wouldn’t be the case in a real human-human match. Overall, it’s a 3.5 to 4 out of 5. I agree with another reviewer who wrote that you can predict what the computer player will roll before they actually do and this takes the shine off what could be an excellent version of the game..Version: 4.37

I enjoy this versionI use to feel that the version was others that I had played, that the game would get the right combination it needed to win. That was my feeling until I started on the advanced level. This level allows for zero mistakes by you. The reason I know it is random, is because at the end of most games, it comes down to whoever gets the final roll of the dice. My only wish list item is stats, I would like to see how many games I have won, etc....Version: 4.20

We can't finish our game...I provided a 4 star rating because I like the application and have been using it for two-person backgammon for quite a while now, however the last update broke the game. Down to the last phase of the game clearing the board, I had a 6 and 2, it would allow me to remove the 2 but I couldn't remove the 6. There were a few other times we were not able to continue our moves without undoing the move in progress and then starting over..Version: 0

Clean and non-gimmickyLove playing this. Always wonder what the yellow [00] numbers are under the player score?.Version: 5.09

Love backgammonThis is the best of the rest. The one I played for years hasn’t updated to this IOS. Whilst I appreciate the honesty of this developer it would still be nice to win half the time as I did with the previous game. I play the easiest of games despite being fairly good at playing just to win occasionally! As I’m addicted I keep at it. Other features: love the board, size and colour of tiles and love just an ordinary game without ads. Perfect thank you.Version: 5.04

Dice are fairThe computer play is solid, the best BG I’ve seen. I love playing on this. But I haven’t been able to lose unless I try. It doubles very conservatively, so don’t ever accept a cube. I think it accepts cubes very aggressively, and I win a LOT because of (what I consider) pretty loose acceptances. You can “cheat” by resigning a clear, clear gammon which the computer will always accept and charge you with a single loss (according to current cube position). You can cheat by looking at upcoming rolls and adjusting your checker move accordingly. I don’t see ANY way the computer can “cheats.” It doesn’t. Promise. I win a fair amount of 15-0 matches…some 15-3 or 4. A few 15-10+. I’ve lost once, maybe twice. I question some plays: it hits loose in his (or her) back court at times, and skips some hits for reasons I’m not seeing. 1 game opened with 5-1 computer, which the computer used a standard open. The following roll was 4-4 played by the computer! It was not my roll. I tapped and the third roll was mine and game was fine thereafter (I won). But I stared at the 2-roll setup for a long time…assuring I wasn’t crazy. I’m about 95% sure that it took two opening rolls. I’ve never seen any bug since…I may be crazy…I’m ok with that. Nice work BG guy!.Version: 5.09

Fun app but....I like the game and I only play at the expert level. From what I have experienced....expert should not mean unbelievably lucky. After months of play that’s what I see with this game. So frustrating that I want to......I will say that the game play has made me a better player or a different player because I know that if I leave a piece open there is a 75% chance it will jumped. I have not tried roll your own dice b/c of slow play, though when I play person to person it shows that I’m a very improved player. This App is almost perfect except expert level..Version: 4.35

Good game butI really love the game, but seriously, computer dice rolls biased. Just finished a game with computer getting 5 doubles at put away time!!! These situations too common. I received a reply to the above saying the dice are pre chosen. Sorry but don’t believe it. Sort the ‘computer cheating’ before I lose faith..Version: 5.06

Best app ever! This app couldn't be any better. It's very clean responsive and let's you move multiple pieces at a time using different fingers. Buy this app I assure you that you won't regret it..Version: 3.01

Great - and fairGreat app, really easy to use and visually perfect. I’ve progressed to playing against the computer at “expert” level, and yes sometimes I have bad luck but sometimes good luck, no reason at all to doubt the randomness of the dice. Thanks for a great app..Version: 4.33

After several years use I had to reload for the first timeTried cancelling and reloading yesterday as it no longer worked with counters getting stuck and the doubling cube no longer working. After feedback from designer Marcus I managed to reload today and so far so good..Version: 5.06

Same as the others!I like this game. It has the best possibilities of the most random play that I have seen. But I still say it favors the pc. On several occasions I will roll something that leaves me no choice but to have a man taken on the pc’s next roll. Several times I will roll the same numbers several times in a row that leave me bad choices and end up taking my man. Without being able to see the pc’s next roll it would seem very one sided. I still like the game and love the option of rolling my own dice. I will continue playing. Thank you to the people that developed it. I appreciate it..Version: 4.35

One of the best on iOSTrue Backgammon is absolutely one of the best backgammon apps on iOS. I would rank this one right up there with Backgammon NJ and XG Mobile. This one has the cleanest interface of the three, best boards, world class AI and fair dice. No glitzy graphics and ads. The in app purchases are totally worth it and if you want to play on the same device or online against others that is all there. I would like to see a clock option to simulate matches irl and like online on Galaxy and perhaps a real time evaluation engine option but even if these things aren’t implemented it is a near perfect app. Icing on the cake would be a built in clock and score card to use for live backgammon matches but this is probably outside of scope of what this app is trying to be. Developer support is up to date and communicative too. In any case I highly recommend this one. I only have 5 BG apps on my phone after sifting through the sea of apps out there. True Backgammon is on par if not a notch above NJ for general play and features. XG is probably best for analysis. Galaxy best for online timed matches against strong opponents and BG Buddy for my scorecard and clock..Version: 5.09

THE BEST!I love backgammon and this is the best version. I’ve tried others, but this is just like the real board! Does what it’s there for, nothing fancy, just proper play. My only problem has been that the game can, very occasionally, freeze and the match has to be aborted. I emphasise that this is rare. Great App..Version: 4.37

Where are the points? Part 2The program works smoothly but it is missing an important piece. It has a doubling cube but it has no purpose since it is not tracking your point score. The only effect of using the cube is to get the AI opponent concede—which is seems to do pretty easily. Thanks for your response, however it doesn’t get to the issue. In my playing of backgammon, using the doubling cube doubles the point values at the end of the game. So instead of winning by 4, you win by 8. In this app, the doubling cube doubles the number of games you win in a match. If I win a game and the cube is on 2, it counts for 2 games won in the match. Is this a legitimate variant? Also, back to points, there is no opportunity for gammons, or backgammons in the point total. Now that it has been explained to me, I added another star to my review..Version: 4.39

Finally -- a first rate Backgammon Game!I just ditched Backgammon Premium, which (unfortunately) I used occasionally for six years. It was full of tricks, glitches, and the rolls weren't fair. This program, however, is the REAL THING! I've played nearly a hundred games in three days at the Expert Level. and the dice probabilities are truly random. It does everything well and provides an honest -- unrigged -- challege to sharpen your skills. Herr Gömmell can take great pride in this exceptional programming and gaming achievement. Gut gemacht und vielen Dank!.Version: 4.39

Hard to believe the dice are actually randomI have played a lot of backgammon and have never played an opponent that can so uncannily roll exactly what is needed. It is hard to believe the dice can roll so perfectly for the computer when playing against it. I am not claiming to be an expert, however, I have a fair bit of experience with odds and it does not appear to be as random as one would expect. Both myself and my wife have noticed the same thing and have given up playing it. But..... if you want a challenge, albeit maybe not a fair one, this is the game for you!.Version: 4.39

Black more doublesHaving played this game almost every day for the past 8 or so years, I am now sure the bloody black gets more doubles, especially when checking out from home base, it’s ridiculous. Yes sometimes white will get a spell of doubles but nothing like the black….Version: 5.09

Great playExcellent gameplay, great graphics, much fun!.Version: 3.01

Love the gameplay. Dice are fair. The dice are fair. Period. And the tutor is outstanding. I’ve played Backgammon all my life. Felt I was pretty good at it, too. Then came the tutor. I nearly quit playing it frustrated me so much. Then I started playing against the AI determined not to need hints. After several hundred games, I can almost do it. There’s no doubt my gameplay is improving. As someone who prides myself on always looking for a “better solution to any problem”, this taught me I’m not nearly as astute as I thought I was. My only complaint, no one ever accepts a challenge. I assume that it’s due to a lack of available opponents. Hopefully, as this game becomes more popular, that will improve. I haven’t bought the “world class AI” yet but probably will soon..Version: 4.37

Best AI by farThis is by far the best backgammon app available on the App Store. The people ranting about the dice are clearly new to backgammon! People throwing live dice curse their bad luck as well. Why on earth would a software developer cheat to make their app win more often? Just think about that… The upgrade to the upgraded engine is well worth it and a bargain compared to other options, say the PC version..Version: 5.06

A brilliant way to improve at the gameEnjoying the tutor function. Really well done..Version: 5.02

Advanced Level UnreasonableAdvanced level unreasonably difficult in new version. Odds are definitely not fair. I have stopped playing. The board is tilted. Not fun. I just tried the “casual” mode. The board is still tilted in favour of the computer. Far too difficult to enjoy. Now the developer has asked me to Google “does your bot cheat”. I am insulted. I have played this game hundreds of times. I actually keep a log of my scores. My average over every 100 games has always been at least a .600 winning percentage. But with the first 200 games with this new version, it is less than .500. How do you explain that? The numbers don’t lie. This new version cheats IMO. Updated review. While I consistently beat the game at advanced level at a rate of 60% on average, the board still seems tilted in the following scenarios. One when I have open men in the home quadrant, the opponent hits them almost all the time. Second when the opponent has open men in the home quadrant, I almost never hit them. Fix these issues and I will give it 5 stars..Version: 5.09

Top teaching aidLike a number of frustrated BG players I often felt that somehow the dice were loaded. How could you POSSIBLY get exactly what you needed there??!?! Having set this game up with the BGBliz tutor on and trying very hard to see why it thought my moves were week whilst studying some classic BG books I am now suddenly destroying the game in expert mode; much more considered and making far fewer mistakes. Sure, I lose games, I still lose matches. But I win the majority I play against expert. More and more so as I learn how to use doubling. If you try to play against BGBliz you will be eaten for sure but it’s got statistical analysis in its favour and remember it beats even the masters!! Use this and books to get better and then find some REAL opponents 👍.Version: 4.35

Programmer won’t answer questionQuestion: If the dice are truly random, why does the first roll never end in a tie? Still waiting for an answer. My answer is the dice are not random. The higher the level you play, the bigger disparity in the rolls. At BB2, the computer rolls at least 4 x the number of doubles the player gets. If you trap the computer with only one move to get out, they always seem to roll it, especially doubles, flipping the game quickly. The higher the level of computer play, the more it seems the computer is just programmed to win. When you on trapped in your opponent’s board, good luck rolling a number to get out until the game has flipped. Please spare me the standard response about random dice and check the rolls coming up..Version: 4.39

Finally backgammon you can trustThere is another backgammon game, not this one, associated with a company named after a fruit that grows on trees and got a wonderful couple of kids in love kicked out of a beautiful garden, long time ago just for eating that fruit. THAT game, FAR away STAY from! my young Padawans. It is a down and dirty lying imposter that will have you on your last hair contemplating putting a projectile through your device. This game, on the other hand, is the opposite of all that and much joy create it will in you. My one and truly only wish is that it had a better way to quit the game. Quitting is rather clunky. Thanks to the coders!.Version: 5.10

I lost the tutor!I’m a fan of this backgammon app. I really like the tutor feature. However, I noticed that I was never being doubled by the computer. My friend, who has the same app told me that he gets doubled all the time. So I deleted the app and re-downloaded it thinking that might solve the problem. Unfortunately, now I have no access to the tutor feature which I paid for previously. I would love to somehow get it back. Other than this problem, I have found the app to be excellent in all ways. The graphics, randomness of the dice, everything..Version: 5.07

A challenge to beat itSometimes it beats me so easily that I think it’s cheating! Now I can win more often by learning from the way the AI plays. I take advantage of the fact that it will always allow me to resign even when it was about to win a gammon. It has made me a better player by being a very difficult opponent.Version: 4.32

Amazing game - doesn’t cheat!Of the many BG games I have played on the App Store this is the best one. It has a clean and simple interface, in-depth game info, and the AI/tutor upgrade is awesome. My game has improved substantially and I’ve had the app only a short time. I highly recommend this game for both casual play and improving your game. I’d like to comment on the cheating issue: The AI does NOT cheat. I did research before buying this game and I am completely satisfied with the explanations given by the developer. There are also tools in the game that prove it is fair. Besides, why “cheat” the players? There is nothing to gain. Who would spend money on a game that cheats? I do get why some think the game cheats. I would have agreed a few months ago. After getting owned by a friend and buying a book (Backgammon For Dummies) I realized I wasn’t as good as I thought I was. In hours I learned more about backgammon than I had in 10 years. I wanted a program to practice what I was learning and this one is great. I started to see that the bot was using strategy to limit the effectiveness of my rolls and increase the effectiveness of its own. This can lead many to conclude that something fishy is going on when it is not. Last thought: With some objectivity I realized that it is not a stretch to think that a world class A.I. could make me look like the amateur player that I am. Hehe..Version: 5.09

Challenging but fairI’ve been playing this version for years and consistently winning matches, either 100 points and the more statistically significant 1000 pointers. I generally win between 65% to 70% of the points. The programmer is definitely an expert player and his/her expertise is reflected in the strategies the program employs. The previous version had a definite weakness with regard to when it would accept a double and it was possible to trick it into multiple doubles when it did not have the advantage. This problem was eliminated entirely. That said, the program still has a weakness that you can exploit for extra points. It will not accept a double in most cases when you have a pip count of 8 in your favor. That said, the programmer’s expertise is so good that if you have to play expertly and avoid mistakes. In the past I’ve read reviews where the reviewer felt the game cheats. Yes, it looks that way sometimes but the law of large numbers prevails and in the end the dice favor neither side..Version: 4.33

Fair dice and TUTORING ($1.00) to become a better player.I have played many of the other backgammon games and this is by far the closest to playing a person that there is. Also there is a tutor element that you can buy for a dollar so you can learn how to play better. The dice are fair, not slanted for the computer to win. And you can prove it by checking the upcoming dice rolls. This is the absolute best backgammon I have ever played against a computer..Version: 4.33

Excellent in every respectHave been using this app for two years and it’s truly excellent. Cannot fault it. Strongly recommended! I have played thousands of games and believe the dice to be 100% fair. I run a quant company so have lots of experience on probability runs..Version: 5.13

Worth the small priceFirst things first. I came to this game having played several other BG games with weak AI that used “lucky” dice rolls to beat you. This game doesn’t. Early on I found myself getting whitewashed by the AI in Expert mode. The game then pops up a message regarding the dice software and claims that rolls are never loaded. Once I believed that I stopped playing ultra-defensively and began to develop strategic play and now I can beat the Expert level. More often than not, if I lose badly it’s because I made a mistake. No adverts either, which is a huge plus..Version: 4.35

GreatI love this game. Its a classic and works so well..Version: 4.30

Ok human to human but computer cheatsI used this game as a playing board and it was great. I've used this for around 50 games playing the computer and am now completely fed up with the amazing number of doubles it gets. Last straw... I was way ahead and baring off when not surprisingly the computer threw double six, double six, double three, double three. Are you kidding! I didn't get one double and I lost. The designers claim this isn't rigged but I don't know what you call it when the computer consistently gets twice as many doubles, I've been counting and it invariably gets exactly the right number if I leave a token expose. It makes me play a completely defensive game. Good as a board but no good to play against..Version: 4.20
