✓ HB and iPad are a matchI'v owned HanDBase on Palms, Windows mobile devices, and BlackBerry for years, and now on iPad for four months. I tend to use simple flat-file databases for personal things, not complex relational databases and fancy forms. Using HB on other mobile devices has been quirky and sometimes difficult, not always very intuitive. It basically worked, and has been my mainstay database app for years, but although I've had trouble from time to time, especially migrating between devices. I can only imagine how tough it has been for developers to keep up with the whirlwind variety of operating systems, so I don't fault HB for that kind of experience. When I couldn't solve the problem myself reading the manual or online, tech support was always a responsive email away. I was very pleasantly surprised with the easy of buying and installing HB through the iTunes App Store, but then I was already familiar with the easy iTunes app-buying experience is so easy). Then I wondered how to port a database from my BB. I wondered if I could merely drop a HD database from my BlackBerry's folder in Windows Explorer into the HanDBase window in my iPad's space in iTunes on my desktop, as I learned to do with QuickOffice and GoodReader, so I gave that a try. I clicked Apply in iTunes and presto -- the database was there when I opened HB on the iPad. The whole look and feel of HB on the iPad seems easier and more intuitive than one other mobile devices,. HB uses the iPad's conventional user interface rules that I've already learned using other apps. It's like HanDBase has finally found a home on the iPad. The trick with iPad is to not expect it to be a laptop replacement, so my comments will not apply to building and maintaining relational databases, which I normally do not need to do for my mobile device. I gave the app 4 stars because there is no automated option for syncing to the desktop on my iMac, and the iMac desktop is not very functional (unless I'm missing something). One can email the database to oneself from the iPad. There are three ways to transfer databases between the iPad and the iMac, but none are slick and easy to remember. But for collecting all kinds of useful data I need in my life, HanDBase and the iPad are made for each other..Version: 4.8.0
✓ ☀Great database app☀📌NB: For those having problems with crashing, make sure that you don't have other apps running in the background. A large, relational database is likely to use a large share of the iPad's memory. I've been using HanDBase for years, originally on my Palm. It's the only fully relational database app I've found for iOS and they've really worked hard to make it work well with the iPad's UI. An important feature of any app, for me, is that the data isn't locked up in it. HanDBase can export and share data (pdf or csv formats) with other apps and other iOS devices. The ability to share databases with a team and automatically send updates to them is also a massive enhancement ✅. It's well worth the in-app purchase to get the custom forms designer. ✓ Thanks Dave!About a year ago I sent an email to Dave H. asking for two things. CSV output/input to allow using Numbers or Pages as a value added feature, and an option for iCloud integration. The latest revision adds CSV output, and app file sharing with apps like Numbers, Dropbox, Cubby, and Files Connect. Although there is no iCloud sync at present, I still hope to see that as an option in the future. That said, what has been added enables HanDBase to more than compete with any of the other DB apps on the App Store. It is MUCH more functional that ANY other DB app available, and the forms feature is second to none. There are no other relational DB apps on the App Store with this one's ease of use. ✓ Outstanding!Being an SQL and relational database person from back in the day I have been wanting a tool like this on my iDevices for a long time. Ran across this by accident and am glad I did! It has everything including the kitchen sink. One warning though... It is not for the database novice or the faint of heart. A solid understanding of the concepts is required. But if you have that, and are willing to spend some time with the documentation and the forums to find answers, this product will be everything you want or need. I am putting the finishing touches on a restaurant ordering, costing and inventory database since there is nothing out there that even comes close to what is needed that doesn't cost a fortune! HanDBase hasn't let me down yet and I'm a novice with it. My only wish would have been a much more comprehensive set of tutorials geared toward iDevice users. Maybe starting with a simple database and adding more and more bells and whistles to show the versatility of the app. That would have saved me a lot of heartache from making wrong decisions early on. ✓ Very useful app with excellent tech-supportPurchased this app so that I could keep some daily records for my business in a much more organized manner. This app allowed me to do just that. The database was easy to set up, and the forms at that I bought along with it let me to create a form that was easy to use. I also purchased a copy of the application to use on the PC so that I could keep the record synchronized and use the database either on my mobile device or my PC. I did have some problems with the synchronization between the phone and the PC. I contacted tech support and they were extremely responsive and very helpful. ✓ Hurray For HanDBase iPAD!Finally, the solution to portability with all of my data. As a long time user of HanDBase and new iPAD owner, I am thrilled with this new format and version. As an owner of a medical management practice, I need to always have my patient data with me and the ability to communicate this information with other health care providers. Not only does HanDBase for iPAD allow me to do all this, but it does it with an exquisite interface. awesome graphics and other new features never seen before in HanDBase. The wireless sync conduit and desktop connect work flawlessly. I have had no crashing problems as a few others have stated. ✓ Amazing App With Support That Is Second To NoneI have been a HanDBase user for many years now - on Palm, Windows Mobile & now iPhone & iPad. I use HanDBase to run my fencing club and my own fencing competition results databases. The combination of pseudo-relational tables and the forms designer mean that I can have an actual application that doesn't just manage lists - it allows me to build a simple (but powerful) system to record my data. I then export the data out to MS Access and I have full reporting facilities. As I say, it runs the fencing club equipment ordering system and the invoicing of members for ordered kit. Without HanDBase my life would be considerably harder. Whilst the product itself is amazingly functional and stable, the support provided by the developer is incredible! The forums are very active, and if you post a question or a query you usually get a good response from the developer within a couple of hours. And you don't just get a fobbing off - if they can't answer immediately they will get you to e-mail your database to them and work out what is wrong. And they will reply in a few hours again. The documentation is not always as up-to-date as I would like, but I would rather have a quick turnaround on queries than a fully up-to-date manual. HanDBase is a must-have app for me. I have looked at other similar-sounding apps but none have the richness or functionality of HanDBase..Version: 4.8.6

✓ Update June 2023 Needs WorkI've used this product for years and like it, but it has some challenges, especially on the iPad mini. The newest update broke my most important form with some sort of dimension change. The title bar is very hard to read in light mode with blue on dark gray. ✓ Aww c'mon!Been waiting for forms support for ages, finally released and now there appears to be a problem preventing download due to some code problem either at apples or DDH's end meaning we can't download it, requiring another release submission! Once this is sorted out I'm sure this will be as good and probably better than all other versions of this program but it's becoming frustrating. I am waiting and not using other apps because this is, IMHO, by far the best but really, really infuriating that it's not quiet there yet, next release......maybe! ✓ Solid databaseI have used this program on multiple platforms and it has always met my needs. I have progressed from Palm, Windows Mobile, and now the iPhone and iPad. It is my database of choice no matter what the platform. The developer is responsive to your requests and is currently working on implementing forms into the program. Once that is complete it will be as visually appealing as it is functional in it's current state. I love the ability to email my work between devices which enables me to have the latest version of the database wherever I am. I've never had a technical problem but contacted support to ask 'how to' stuff and received quick response with great advice on using the apps. ✓ ExcellentSaw; bought; played with! I've not used it on anything but the iPad. Seems to be quite easy to use and versatile. My needs are simple though. One thing I don't like is that the database list takes up about 1/3 of the screen in landscape mode and I don't see any way to close it. This results in a narrower work area in landscape mode than in portrait mode (most annoying). I haven't tried anything with multiple databases or complex views but it looks very promising. ✓ Great Database AppA while back I tried using this on my iPhone to enter observations of employee performance. I liked it then, but for what I was doing it really didn't work on the small screen. Now that I have an iPad, what a difference! And I really like the forms addition. Overall, it is a great application. Also, I like that fact that it seems to have a robust support system and a user forum where the developers actual respond to posts. As with any app, it has a few bugs. I would give it a half star less for those, but since I can only give 4 or 5, it deserves 5. And these guys seem to be really good about working out bugs prety quickly..Version: 4.8.6
✓ We've only just begun...I can hear the Carpenter's singing "We've Only Just Begun" when I use this app. It has so many possibilities, many capabilities, and I just know it is going to make me much more efficient and productive. I've used it for several months, and still feel that I have barely scratched the surface of what it has to offer. It can be a little tricky at times, and some of the features are a little difficult to figure out. However, there is good support documentation and message boards that help a lot. ✓ Latest version is brilliantThe latest version is brilliant - because you can now add and delete files in the 'Files' section of iTunes on your iPad or iPod Touch. Before I am sure you could keep your iPod Touch, iPad and PC all synchronised but I found it very complicated to follow all the different syncs and now (for me) it's just easier to overwrite files using iTunes. So what was a terrific app on the Palm is a terrific app again and I can start using it without being worried I was going to overwrite or lose my data. Now to try and work out how to use it properly instead of scratching around - and to investigate the free apps on the website (which is a real bonus)..Version: 0
✓ Great ProgramI am baffeled by the negative reviews I see. I use the program extensively on my farming operation and regularly keep track of all kinds of things in multiple databases. The addition of Forms makes the utility much stronger. Alternative products I've looked at don't offer such power and versatility at a comparable price. ✓ Excellent DatabaseThis is a really easy to use program that can create simple or complicated databases and has lots to offer those who want to tinker and create more involved/linked databases as well. I purchased Bento and was totally disappointed. It is a waste of money as far as I am concerned. You CANNOT import and export from it while with this program, Handbase, transferring files back and forth is a breeze. You can use the desktop companion version of Handbase but you don't have to. If you have Access or Excel (or similar programs) you can convert those databases or spreadsheets into csv files that will upload to the ipad without issue. I have been using the Handbase demo desktop version which is actually an easy to use program in its own right (although not as slick looking as the Ipad version). I find this progam easier to understand and set up databases then in Access. It does relational and linked dbs as well! I am very impressed with this program so far and find this new version to be very stable. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking for an easy to use and transferable database that has the ability to grow with you as you learn..Version: 0
✓ Over 4,000 Records I can bring with me!I have a large database with my customer records. I am in outside sales and many times I am in my car when a customer calls. I used to have to pull over, get my laptop out of my trunk, loaded it up and in 15 minutes I can be online and have my customers ansers. Now, I still pull over, but my iPad is instantly on and in 15 seconds I have my customers answer. Great program, I was able to move my records from Microsoft Access in just a couple of minutes. ✓ The Mother of All (OK, many) Apps, literallyUpdate: still getting better & better! *********** I have been a longtime user of HDB Palm, Windows Mobile, & Windows desktop. I find it is easy to use, useful, and versatile. I am not skilled at creating databases (I am especially relationally challenged), but I have been able to use the many free templates to create grocery lists, journals, prayer list and devotion guides, maintenance logs, etc. This app can be used to create many more apps, like password safes, time/billing, & world peace (got carried away there). Before you buy a new app, check DDH's catalogue of templates/applets online. They often have something that can be tweaked to just what you want (& even my clumsy customizations usually do the job). So then I save some money for that fancy iToilet Paper app I just have to have. A desktop sync program is also available, for extra $ (but worth it for sync & bu, & for importing/exporting with my nemesis, MS Access). Good tutorials on the website, & the developer seems responsive. I give it only 4 stars because the iPad version is still so new & they are still rolling out features (like forms creator/manager, which I don't know how to use but know I need).Version: 4.8.6

I use it for my "paperwork" in my practice and have had negligible problems updating/transferring my databases to and through the various platforms, and ALL WITH A MAC!!! I received an iPad for Christmas and purchased HanDBase for it and again, no problems. I can now share my databases between my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro, makes my business life so much easier! Using multiple databases, I track preventative maintenance, laser changes,etc. HanDBase helps turn the ipad into a serious business tool. ✓ Finally a real databaseI've tried FMTouch, Tap Forms and Bento. Handbase for iPad blows them all away. It's better than Bento for Mac. Much easier to understand and really easy to construct, sort and adjust configurable table views. It doesn't lock you into a database or reporting/viewing structure (like Bento). Multiple views and sorts on the fly Beautiful interface Desktop version is very basic. I use it just for syncing and backup. It would be nice to have a better desktop app. I would also like to see more font sizes and choices (field based, not global). Lastly I'd like to be able to adjust the width of the database selection window when in landscape mode. I use this app a lot. I've had one crash in about 2 weeks. If you are looking for a hugely customizable database, then this is it. I searched for alternatives but nothing comes close to this app. Also, the developer support is simply great. ✓ Best iPad databaseI've been using this app for a couple of years now, and its really an excellent database. The latest update has a lot of improvements and I prefer the UI now that it is more consistent with all the other iOS7 apps. Designing a database, including linking and relating is pretty intuitive, and the Forms designer is worth purchasing too. Getting data in and out using pdb and csv files with Open-In and AirDrop works great. It does take a little time to pick up all the little tricks, especially for the Forms designer, but its worth the effort because it adds huge flexibility in data handling and display. ✓ Easy and Flexible to UseI have been using this database product since I got my first handheld - Sony Clie - years ago. It has only gotten better and better over the years and now I am using it on my iPad. I was just assigned new responsibilities to oversee part of our organization. My first step was to reach for Handbase and setup some relational databases to track issues and finances. Within a couple of hours I had databases setup, entering data and tracking everything that I needed. The ability to create Forms on the iPad has streamlined my workflow. There are a couple of thousand databases loaded to the company website over the years to use as samples and starting points. And - what is key - is the Forum and the Support. ✓ Excellent barcode scanner!I've been a long time user - since Palm Pilot days and have been generally happy with the capabilities but have not stretched to product - just use it for general databases. I had a project which required the collection of a large number of serial numbers from equipment with barcodes. I tried several dedicated barcode scanner apps on the iPad without much success. I finally decided to check to see if HanDBase had any scanner capability and after a few minutes on the DDH forums, found out how to create a database with fields populated by the built in scanner. The database suits my purpose and the scanner is very accurate and reliable. The ability to sync with my Mac and then export the data in CSV allows importing into other systems. This product has a lot of capabilities that are not well publicised but fortunately the forums are really helpful. If you are looking for a database manager with more than just basic functions, this is definitely worth the money..Version: 4.8.715

I have created new databases using the desktop application, iPhone version and iPad version. ✓ One of the best apps for the iPadI have been using HanDBase since the early days of the Palm Pilot. When I switched to a Blackberry I became quite upset since the application never worked very well on that platform. But with the iPad the application once again deserves 5 stars. HanDBase is a general purpose database program that I feel has significantly more capability than Bento, although the basic installation is devoid of pretty graphics. But if what you are looking for is a rather complete package with the capability of defining your own fields, linking to other databases and records, computed fields, and reasonably complex searching and filtering, then you can't beat this program. There is also a desktop version that can read and write databases generated on the iPad and vice-versa. There is much more capability in HanDBase than I will ever use. ✓ Sharing databases is a breezeThe ability to email a db to someone, such that it is merged with their existing copy of the db is brilliant! I'm not quite sure I get the UI complaints. It's a database app! It allows you to create, view, import, export and share databases! It is not, at least yet, designed to be a presentation app. The ability to have fields which access other dbs is not present in any other app store application. ✓ Not slick, but loads of functionalityI have been searching for months for an app that will do the things that this app can do. The overall functionality of this app is superb, however it is a bit glitchy in places and is not particularly polished. The ways of achieving certain outcomes are not obvious. However, with a lot of perseverance, I managed to eventually create precisely the database and forms I wanted to, albeit that some of the solutions for making it work in the way I want it to are a bit clunky. I just downloaded a copy for my new iPad and after a little practice and getting used to it I love it! I couldn't get along without HanDbase. ✓ Nothing comes closeNothing comes close to this database program! Many database programs are out there but they are typically the database that you would create with a spreadsheet rather than a database application. You can create simple to very complex databases. If you are up to it you can basically create a lot of apps typically on sale on iTunes. The downside of this complexity and infancy of this app is the occasional crash. This typically occurs while "programming" the database, just like a bug. The UI is nice. I am just not a fan of their graphics(their icons,file cabinet, home screen). It makes this app look cheap and less professional. Although forms was not implemented in this version of the app it is said that it is in development. I am looking forward to that. This app already has a large following on other mobile devices and there are a lot of database files to choose from. You can share these among other mobile devices and desktops. Support is very good. They respond within a day on questions posted on their forum. The price is just right for me. I am giving this 4/5 stars because I hate the graphics and because of the occasional crashes..Version: 0

✓ Excellent APPLove this APP. It does everything I need it to do and if you use the add on desktop pc programme you can sync directly into Microsoft Access databases. (More money but well worth it for me). The forms designer works well. Purchased Bento to begin with, but that is totally unsuitable for data collection or data import onto a PC. A lot of the bad reports of this APP appear from earlier release. I have had no crashes. ✓ Nice Database ProductBeen using this for a couple of weeks now. So far, so good :-) The stability issues mentioned in the earlier reviews seem to have been fixed. The latest version for the iPad added a form designer (in app purchase). It's a little bit fiddley to use, hence 4 stars rather than 5 but it works well enough. Given this is the first iteration of the form designer on the iPad I'm sure it'll improve. The creator of the app is very responsive to posts in the support forum. There were some recent problems getting the form designer addon to work in the Apple Store, and he pulled out all the stops to get it fixed. So if your after a database app for the iPad, you should definitely have HanDBase on your list of apps to try..Version: 4.7.92
✓ Phenomenal app, worth purchasing an iPad for!!I needed an app to track a fairly complex business process that I have and I was initially deterred by the seeming complexity of this product, as compared to other iPad database offerings. However a day into development using a different product I hit a wall due to its shortcomings. I returned to HandBase (having purchased it, after all) and began to read the manual. After a fairly short learning curve (three hours) I began producing an app which over the past week has blossomed into a a fully relational database app with multi-tabbed forms. It is a great app. Although I am relatively new to database programs, this one is easy to use , powerful, and very flexible. I'm already using several databases I've built. ✓ Super awesomeYea that's right I said "super awesome". This is hands down the best program for keeping a database of your small business customer list. Tried to use pages but list wouldn't even scroll after too many entries. HanDBase allows an extensive list with all the options I need without even having to manually enter some fields due to the easy to use drop-down boxes. ✓ Excellent Personal DatabaseI was worried that this app wouldn't give me the power or customizability that I needed...it does. Highly tunable databases and easy interaction with all of the fields etc. The reports and searching / query options were better than I expected in an iPad app. This app alone makes my iPad purchase worthwhile. ✓ Very Good DB App -- ButI've been using HanDbase for many years on many platforms and it still remains the best available, IMO. There are MANY HandDbase DBs available for use which enables users to be productive with it -- Day One. However, it needs updating to make it a 5-star app for iPad. It is too "pre-2005" now in that it requires access to a workstation. (This is a problem that Apple also needs to overcome with its "iTunes" requirement so I cannot blame completely blame DDh) -- Sync/backup or copy to the most popular Cloud Services like Dropbox or Google is a necessity. -- All form design options need to be available on the iPad -- Integration with other iPad apps - we should be able to directly transfer online or local worksheets or HTML tables to and from DBs. -- Directly download and use of HandDbase "free" databases - again you need a workstation to unzip and load..Version: 4.7.3
✓ Great Product & Customer Service!I loaded HanDBase onto the iPad2 I'd received for Christmas and right away had a minor issue with one of the databases I had manually created. I sent an email to HanDBase support and expected to hear back after the holidays. Turns out the issue was of my own causing and I solved it shortly after sending the email. However, I received a friendly email pinpointing my error from Brian within 24 hours on New Year's Eve. Outstanding customer support! ✓ Can't Do Without it! Very Useful.Handbase is very useful for creating databases you need. They can be simple to complex. There is a lot of help available from the developer’s website and other forums that have great information and tips. This app can replace a lot of the other apps that are available.
