Not worth the effortThis app has a lot of potential, but it's honestly not worth the effort to set up. The developers don't really seem to "get" iOS app design. For example, when creating a database, there are 100 possible fields in a database, which are presented in a list. This list cannot be reordered, so if you need to add a field between the current field 3 and field 4 in a list of 20 fields, you'd have to change every field from 4-21, instead of adding one field and just moving it to the position you want it to be. Another example: when entering data in an integer-only field, the app doesn't bring up the numeric keyboard, so there are extra key presses required every time just to bring up the number keys. It may be a good database, but the interface is so bad I never really got to the point that I'd be willing to use it..Version: 4.9.073

Form editor worthlessBasic app appears to work somewhat well on ipad2 but still crashes occasionally when adding or saving a new record. Paid the extra $4.99 for the in-app form designer/editor and it is totally unusable. Crashes every time you attempt to modify a form field's properties using the settings menu and crashes frequently whenever you try to move or reposition a form field or tab. Tried reinstalling the app several times and still crashes enough to render the app essentially useless for my needs. I rarely, if ever, take the time to review iPad apps, but this one has been such a disappointment that I felt that I had to. Hopefully, a future update will make it more stable, but not holding my breath..Version: 4.8.6

DisappointingI had high hopes for this but I found it very limiting. There is very little customisation of fields and the interface is poor and unattractive..Version: 0

4.7.9 and STILL no forms!Seems good BUT the bad error when trying to purchase in-app forms is still in place despite the emergency update! Fix this, then rating will be tops!.Version: 4.7.9

App crashesUPDATE: Last night I searched the net, and a lot of ppl are having the same issue with this app. So I called Apple Canada today and explained the issue with the app. They washed their hands saying it is passed 60 days, no refund. I said I wanted to speak to someone about how Apple chooses the developers who can sell apps on the app store. I said it is unfair that people pay good money for apps that are bug ridden. The guy hung up on me and I was not being rude. ORIGINAL POST What a waste of money. It seems every time there is an app update handbase crashes when you try to select a database. 3 times I have lost my information and had to redo everything. I contacted the developer and they are non-responsive. This developer should be pulled off the App Store. Apple is no help either. Buyer beware....Version: 4.9.075

Update?I noticed that it has been a year since the last time anything has been done with the app by the developer. A lot of things have advanced since that short time ago. Is there any chance that there will be a Major update to the HanDBase app? I use this application quite a lot, and every time I open the app l am reminded of Windows 95 or maybe the version just after dos 3. Please bring the app forward since the start of the GUI and present us with something new and fresh. Please..Version: 4.9.078

Feels unlovedThis seems to be the only 'real' offline database app for the iPad at the moment (not an exhaustive search - happy for someone to correct me). It offers relational fields which the nearest competitor doesn't so I'd love to make this app the one for the job I need to do. However, the interface feels like half a job. An attempt to make it 'friendly' but only superficially. There are odd little things which don't work such as the spanner access to the database properties doesn't work when hide db is set for example. A general sense that this app has been rushed out and/or abandoned pervades it. Sum up: not easy to use despite the attempt at a friendly interface. Shame..Version: 4.8.710

ImportI see no way to import a CSV file into Handbase on a iPad without using a pc or mac. How is that not possible in 2021. If I would have known I wouldn’t have purchased the software. The software is worthless to me. Congrats, you beat me for $10..Version: 4.9.078

DisappointingHaving recently converted a number of job costing, inventory systems and security databases to this APP, getting started was easy. I deployed my databases to number of iPads and iPhones. Development was really easy and everything was working well. The ability to integrate photos, scanning student ID cards as barcodes is impressive. The email feature to send the database updates between devices works very well. However after a recent update to version 4.8.3., the Database program continuously freezes, buttons have stopped working, the ability to edit the forms (an extra in app purchase) no longer functions and causes the APP to exit when a form is edited. I created the databases on an iPad, then ran databases from an iphone. Only the iPhones that have not been updated to the latest version are still working correctly. Problems have been reported to the developer but I have stopped using this product. It is caused too many crashes in which i lost data. I really hope the developer can resolve the problems. I have tested database on last version of iOS 4 and iOS 5 - the problems still persist. - So disappointed after having such a great start..Version: 4.8.3

High hopes BUTThis app appeared to have everything (nearly) that I wanted in a relational database. The known limitations were field size for DBpopup which made it difficult for me to use in my applications for report writing with a phrase picker. I spent a long time writing an application on it but eventually gave up because there appear to be serious memory allocation problems. There are frequent crashes and my DBpopup list would not take on the view that was set up for it making it useless as you can't see the various options in the list view. The application appears to work in the PC windows desktop version of the programme. I am disappointed that the developers have not been able to make this app stable enough to use except in the most basic of applications..Version: 0

No chance to send emailsIf you define email for your clients in a field, you cannot use them to send emails. I contacted support and they said such a feature does not exist in their app. You also cannot transfer phone numbers to your iPad or transfer iPad phone numbers to this app.Version: 4.7.3

Used for a long time but support is now disappointingA useful app that I've depended on for years. Recently had a problem with crashes that rendered all my data on the iPad totally inaccessible. Fortunately was able to transfer data to my iPhone. Otherwise I would have lost years and years of accumulated data. Still trying to get the app operational on the iPad again but email support response in almost nonexistent. Very disappointed!.Version: 4.9.073

Backup and syncThe latest update "fixes syncing issues." A fix for me would mean cloud syncing between iPhone and iPad. It's a pity that this expensive app still needs a desktop to sync between devices, making the app seem outdated. Otherwise I like it..Version: 4.8.3

Do not waste money: Clumsy Stone Age softwareIt appears to be a useful software but its UI is tedious, difficult to use, really Stone Age. It does not make use of IPAD capabilities. And, it lacks some badly needed features: 1) Ability to import & export records / data in CSV & XML formats across IPads, 2) Ability to create custom reports in desired format 3) Ability to save the database on Cloud 4) Some essential fields/ controls such as audio, slider, stepper 5) Better UI, something similar to Bento for IPAD I will appreciate if these requested features are added to Handbase ............................................ I have repeatedly requested for these badly missing features, but no one is properly responding. HanDbase has strong relational capabilities. But otherwise, it has already lost to Bento database for IPad platform. I cannot share data via CSV format both for import & export, on IPAD platform. HanDbase guys tell me to use a PC instead, which is the worst idea. HanDbase has its roots in DOS of olden PC days. I need a database that can use IPAD capabilities like Bento for IPAD. Conclusion is, do not waste money on this software app. Its DOS based Form Designer makes no sense on IPAD. Company wants to make money by keeping all the platforms. They are afraid of developing universal app that works on IPAD, IPhone or PC as standalone app. HanDbase may die away with time or continue to exist as proof of concept, Stone Age database. What a shame! Alternative: Bento for Ipad, Tap Forms.Version: 4.8.715

Limited capabilitiesI have been using this for a while. At first it seems fine then you bump into the fact it has limited capabilities. I tried to get help from the forums but the moderator does not respond to posts and after 3 days my question is not posted nor has the help desk responded. AVOID would be my advice.Version: 4.9.071

Does Not Work on iPadOS 15 — Why Is This Still in the App Store???I’ve used this app on my various iPads for years but when I bought an iPad Pro last year, and restored my apps to it, I discovered that this app cannot be synced with a Mac because it does not ask to access the local network, so it says there’s no Wi-Fi. The iPhone version works but the “zoomed” interface is terrible..Version: 4.9.078

Buggy. Support UnavilableLongtime HandBase user with a few bumps along the way, but the new iPad app is causing me serious issues. In one file created with iPod version the first two, critical fields do not show in the list view, although a backup file with the same settings shows perfectly. There is no longer any direct support for the product. A support forum is inaccessible due to a flawed captcha process (sign in security). For four days now the requests for sign in support sent to the address provided have bounced because the mailbox is full. The separate form creator, which is essential for good data base usage, was purchased but does not appear to have downloaded or be about to. HandBase for iPod appears to be more limited in db control than its predecessors. The icons for field editing in the menu view are unresponsive. In the iPod version, furthermore, the contents of one file disappeared completely. (ergo the backup file). This seems to occur occasionally. Suggest researching similar products before committing to this. It is one of the few software products, apps I know which has become less user friendly over the years.Version: 4.8.5

Bugs and no supportAfter finding a number of database update bugs in the app, I went to the support site to report them. After trying numerous times to submit the report form and being rejected, I gave up! It makes you think the developers aren't really interested! I'm now looking for another app!.Version: 4.9.03

Unstable! This app would be brilliant if it weren't for a few irregularities. I rotated my IPad mid-creation of a database and it deleted it. Very frustrating. I expect more from an apple endorsed product..Version: 4.8.715

Limitation with picturesPictures can be stored in the database but it's often useless since they can only be viewed as thumbnails. It's not possible to zoom..Version: 4.7.3

Infuriating, Otherwise PleasantThis app is infuriating when it crashes and I lose hours worth of data input. When it doesn't crash, it's actually quite pleasant to use. It has an easy to use interface. I love its ability to have pictures with each record. It would be nice to have a button to make the left third of the screen disappear to see more fields. The app has gotten less buggy over time with all the updates, so I've had crashes less often, but it still happens. As a possible crash prevention method, I'm exiting the program every 5-10 minutes..Version: 4.7.2

It's OK but...I've been using this for a while. I found it quite easy to write a database for my comics collection. But it's too fiddle to back up data. You need to open an IP address in your browser before the app will back up your data😳 Erm...Dropbox anybody? There also seems to be a woeful lack of output options. You can email your records as plain text. You can print to an Air Print printer. But I can't fin any nicely formatted PDF reports (for example). I may have to abandon this, and start again with another app..Version: 4.8.5

Adam HillAppears to be an untested port of the iPhone app. You have to keep closing down the keyboard to access the 'Add New' button because it is hidden under the keyboard. This applies to adding fields and records. This should be addressed v soon!.Version: 0

Wish it would "catch up"I've been using different versions of this great app for years.... iPad, iPhone, Pocket PC (remember them) and my computer. It is a great app that I use in so many ways all day long. It is easy to create new databases and forms but, THERE IS NO CLOUD. I am shifting from iPad to iPhone and have to constantly email these different databases to myself, and there are several databases tat I use. I've been loyal for a long time but am looking for a new mobile cloud based database. I would pay for an upgraded version rather than move to a different one. Come on DDH, GET WITH THE TIMES!!!!!.Version: 4.8.715

Jim MitchellAfraid the emergency fix hasn't worked for me either - same error message. Disappointing but hopefully fixed soon?.Version: 4.7.9

Crashes 24/7Waste of time just keeps crashing.Version: 4.8.5

Needs iCloud syncing or savingHandBase can create databases easily. Love how can update on the fly by assigning new field types and views. Would like to have option to store db file on cloud service to use with iPhone and iPad..Version: 4.9.075

Loved it before iOS5I loved this app; I've used it since the early days of the Palm Pilot. However, it now routinely crashes on sync and crashes anytime a decimal is used in a calculation on both iPad and iPhone. Additionally, the log shows it trying to erroneously sync images that aren't there and does not recognize iDevices on he same WiFi network. Let's hope hey fix it soon..Version: 4.8.2

Great concept, mediocre executionI really wanted to like this app, especially with the cost. The database aspect appears to work well. The form designer, however, does not live up to expectations. The form designer for the desktop works, but is very cumbersome. There are frequent errors, and placement of objects is difficult. The form design app for the iPad is actually easier to use than the desktop editor. The iPad form editor, however, often crashes. I was an hour into a form edit when the app crashed and I lost all of my work. After the total expense for this app, including the iPad app, the iPad form designer (in app purchase), and the desktop component (web purchase), I expected a much more stable and professional product..Version: 4.8.5

This used to good. There is no way to save on newer iPad. Worked just fine on my old one..Version: 4.9.078

No goodRelational links are poor, and cannot backup.Version: 4.7.1

HanDBase for iPadThis app crashes for no apparent reason. Difficult to edit a record without app shutdown (which loses all data in the record). If I edit a record, I have to choose "+" (new record) and completely reenter the data. It is impossible to ediit an existing record. User manual is not very helpful in discribing what is happening on the iPad. It speaks in generalities that assumes everyone buying the app has an throrough understanding of database software. It think the app has potential, but it's not ready for publication at this time, too much "tweaking" involved to keep a stable, working app..Version: 4.8.5

Very limited in what it can doI found this product very limited in what it can do and genuinely regret this purchase, especially for the 10$ price. My expectations where significantly higher on field and table manipulation. I can't recommend an alternative at this point, but I'll need to keep looking because this product isn't it ! If I could, I would sell my license for half price. Anyone interested ? :-).Version: 4.8.5

List managerReal database software allows more than a single table in a database. This is a collection of lists with a clunky mechanism for "linking" lists and naming it a "relationship"..Version: 0

Doesn't get the job done for my IPad 3Im used to working with real relational databases application like Microsoft Access, SQL Server and MySQL. This database manager is nothing short of disappointing. The interface is clumsy, cannot establish relationships between databases, there are no tables and it is difficult to navigate. A spreadsheet application like Numbers serves the purpose of storing data better than this application. Still looking for a true relational database for my IPad 3..Version: 4.8.5

Useless for picturesNot a cheap app, and I bought it to specifically keep a database of paper reports, photographed on the iPad. Tiny pictures, can't be expanded or zoomed. Not impressed..Version: 4.8.710

A big problemIf you are considering this app for your business, think it twice, this app crash often, and lost information every time that it crash. Not trustful to manage your data As a data base just allow you to create tables and some relation between then, really simple data base. No synchronization with access format. It works only with CVS FORMAT..Version: 4.7.3

Waste of money - I want a refund !What a lot of rubbish ! Can't get it to do what it said it would - waste of money and if I knew how I would demand my money back !.Version: 4.9.03

Old friendI keep coming back to this app for my solutions because of how personal I can make it. It's not the easiest to use but its functionality makes up for that. Big issue for me unless I am missing something is ICloud ! I run an iphone, ipad and a desk top version of Handbase so why can't I update a database seamlessly rather than importing/exporting? iCloud for me would give it the extra 2 stars.Version: 4.8.710

Can't enter date before 1904The DATE field does not allow an input of any date prior to 1904. If I had known that I would not have bought it. I wanted it to collate genealogy research but restricting the earliest date to 1904 makes it useless. I now need to buy an alternative! They say they can't do anything about it..Version: 4.9.063

Nothing you can't do in a spreadsheetWhoever has designed this doesn't understand databases... I thought this would be a great way of managing product costs based on unit prices of elements however its doing nothing I couldn't have done in excel with a few vlookups.... Waist of money.Version: 4.8.710

MRubbish, serious crashes. Refund Please!.Version: 0

Crashes and looses your data. This App is not ready for prime-time. It often crashes and looses data (or whole databases) that you entered. It is also overpriced for what you get. The web access is nice to upload your databases as CSV files. However, it doesn't seem to allow merging new data into an existing database. (There may be a way to do this but I couldn't find it.) Instead you either have to create a new DB, or append the data onto the end of your existing one. Deleting all the old records of a large DB is a major pain. I found the method to link one DB to another to be clumsy and nearly incomprehensable. There are four field types: DBPopup, Link, Linked, and Relationship. They all access the other DBs in different ways. I never did figure out how to use Link and Linked - the documentation isn't too clear - so I used DBPopup to populate a field and Relationship to access the key in another DB. Why do I have to burn two fields to link to a key in another DB? I didn't find anyway of displaying the data other than as a simple record list. Also, there doesn't seem to be anyway of formatting the text in a field (it is always centered.) These things may exist but I can't find them. I gave this 2 stars because it is a good start to a useful App. It needs a lot of work though..Version: 0

Should be betterI bought this app when it first appeared on iPad, but quickly gave up because it kept crashing. I have just tried the latest version, which is more stable, but has crashed twice in the last hour. I think it will be fine if all you want to do is work with a single table (database in HanDBase speak), but trying to link tables causes problems. Bento is better for simple applications..Version: 0

Crashes a lot!Difficult one this. I really like the depth of the app, the potential uses and the flexability. It does, however, crash a hell of a lot. Fix the stability issues and I'd give it 5 stars. At the momemt I would say don't buy until it is fixed..Version: 4.7.3

U like manual input logs? Then this is it.Excellent database program. Easy to create & use. Fix a few things and this app can easily deserves a five star rating. See suggestions and feedback below. Click the 'more' button. 1. Quite buggy, please continue to fix: a. Freezes frequently b. Crashes on occasion c. Forgets field order settings when sorting d. Sideway scrolling choppy and buggy - allow touch anywhere to scroll sideways. 2. Sync Provide the capability to sync either via a cloud or directly to the iPhone iPod Touch 3. View Provide the capability to a. shrink the doc two to five sizes b. reduce the folder list to a button when in landscape view This will help bring more info along the horizontal spectrum into view and reduce the need to scroll sideways 4. Folders Provide the capability to a. reorder the folders and sub folders b. modify the colors of the folder labels 5. Date Allow a date opt where the date a. starts with a two alphabet day of the week b. and along with that has a three alphabet month.Version: 4.7.3

PoorThis app makes claims that appear to be false. It says that it is a relational database that can be created on the ipad, as far as I can see it can’t. You can create a db but not the relational part. The help system seems to bear little relationship to the application, for instance the field roster is completely different. I even bought the forms version thinking that this would solve the problem, it did not. Unfortunately I did not read the most recent review which is three years old. A definite complaint is will be submitted to Apple..Version: 4.9.078

Form capability neededYou really need to implement forms, listing the database puts us in the position of scrolling up and down constantly. With the big screen of the Ipad, it would be great to be able to place all the data on the screen that you can see. That would be sweet. This also includes the child records. Please also implement calculations across linked files. Very easy to create simple or complex databases. Please also make the signature field full screen for larger drawings..Version: 0

BuggyOverall, this feels like a beta application. It crashed and lost data in the first 20 minutes of use - a big problem with a database application. The underlying theme is hard to see and use, very dark on the iPad. The classic theme is buggy, with transparent windows that make it hard to see the information presented. The home screen looks nice, but has little practical value and is not clear what it does-very much a form vs. function tradeoff. The databases are very easy to create, and fairly straightforward to populate, although there is a bit of iPhone style sliding menus. Overall, it has potential, but only with significant improvements..Version: 0

Not worth itThere is no query function in this database, without that function it is just like using a spreadsheet..Version: 4.9.078

It's a pretty spreadsheet...It's hard to fault this app for what it is and considering the competition. Expecting a fully fledged Database on the iPad seems a little unrealistic at this stage. This program is essentially a very nicely presented spreadsheet with the added bonus that you can create and reuse pop up lists of items for entry in a particular field. This makes this appextremely useful if you don't want to go through the normal filling in of the same information multiple times. Unfortunately though, you can't do many of the things I would like to be able to achieve with a proper functioning Database app..Version: 4.6.2

Does not Worth the 10$Don't spend your money for this. Keep using Your spreadsheet to simulate a DB..Version: 4.9.03

It is very useful !It would be great if we could sync through Dropbox or iCloud..Version: 4.9.03

Forewarned is forearmedVery good, but you download the iPhone app, then pay for the iPad app, then think you'll get the desktop app, which is a third purchase, then find you need to buy an enhancement to sync this with your iPad and iPhone, so a fourth purchase, which is crazy - why would you buy the desktop version except to sync to your mobiles? Finally, if like me you also have a Touch and fancy syncing to that too, you need to dig into your pocket for the fifth time. This is the first app I've ever bought that won't run on iPhone and Touch with one purchase..Version: 4.8.5

Used to be recommendedThis used to be one of the top goto database apps for a range of PDAs and systems but hasn't kept up with the times. For a while I had it on my iPhone, iPad and iMac (the OSX version) but have lately removed it from my iPhone and will shortly dispense with it altogether as it just won't sync reliably. The only reason I still have it on my iPad is because I haven't yet found another program that gives me a simple (flat file is fine) database that I can sync between the various bits of hardware. I'll probably switch to Evernote and work with simple documents....Version: 4.9.063

CRASSHHHEEESSSIt show stupid tutorials and it crashes please fix it please.Version: 4.9.078
