Backgammon NJ HD for Negative User Reviews

Cynical programmingChu has researched his game. The computer play is adequate, but certainly not superior in the expert mode. What enables the computer to win is consistently perfect rolls--against all odds. The computer was able to bear off in one game in which I led by rolling three doubles in a row. 216 to 1. The human is given inferior rolls ostensibly to provide the illusion of expert play. Too bad. I had high hopes for this one. Wasted my money..Version: 6.0.3

Randomised RollsI find it hard sometimes to believe that the computer’s rolls are completely random..Version: 6.2.1

Fixed dice on expert level🤬🤬🤬It’s such a shame that a site as good as this has to fix the dice. Why does the creator continue to insist the dice are random? How the system works to time such convenient dice I don’t know. But, I like so many other seasoned players can clearly see/feel! the probability being incorrect. I have actually gone as far as to move blatantly the wrong counters (even leaving 2 blots)when faced with a bad throw while moving my final pieces into my board. Sure enough the computer threw the obvious dice and so missed my blots. What I find equally irritating is when playing matches of say to 25. A few of the games seem stacked unnaturally in my favour. Me throwing the perfect dice when running or hitting the majority of blots in a non random fashion. I can understand it is in the interest of sites which take a percentage of money games to fix the dice to get the doubling dice moving, But why fix the dice in flavour of the computer in fun games - the dice to one side, it’s the best site I’ve found so far. The computer plays a good game! so shouldn’t have to cheat to get the upper hand!! Dickie.Version: 6.3.9

Great for 2 Player Games, Bad for 1 Player GamesIn expert mode, the game is expert at rolling dice. It is easy enough to show. Forget about how good anyone is as a player. Just count how many times it takes to get off the bar with three spaces open versus how many times it takes AI to get off the bar with three spots open. See how close or how far apart those counts are. Or as a simpler statistic, just count how many double sixes you get when on the bar and the AI has only the six spot covered. See how close it is to or far it is from one in 36. Or even simpler, count how many 6-6 or 5-5 or 4-4 you get versus the AI. Those and plenty of other stats have nothing to do with how good the player is. Read the web page in the developer response, then do your own math and see what is actual reality. It is great game to have fun on the iPad with a friend in a 2 player match. But it is just not fun against the “AI”..Version: 6.3.9

Hu can jump in a lake… it cheats like a motherThe complaints about the stacked dice rolls is totally legit. I don’t know why the developer chose to do this, it just make the game un-fun to play and it really doesn’t help you improve. How can you improve when your opponent has God-like ability to roll the perfect combo every time? Plus, who can win when the computer does 3 to 4 doubles on the walk out? Honestly Jimmy, just put an option for a real-time totally random dice generator and that would fix this. Otherwise the game is a 5 star. For beginners, it’s really good. But for experts it’s a waste of time. Also, you can’t rely on the online play to fill the gap because everyone online just bails when the game turns against them… toolbags….Version: 6.3.9

Use real dice and you will be fineThe dice rolls are skewed in the computer’s favor. I’m convinced of it. I also don’t accept the developer’s explanation for it. I’ve played countless games using the computer roll and then started playing with physical dice, making manual inputs. With actual dice rolls, the various computer plays make sense. But using the computer generated rolls, however, the computer lands the perfect roll almost every time. Sorry, I don’t buy the randomness claims, so be sure to use real dice if you buy this app as the app allows you to make manual inputs from actual physical rolls, which is its only saving grace..Version: 6.1.1

Complete rip-offPlayed 1000 games, checked the stats and this is a cheat plain and simple. The reviews pouring scorn on doubters are fake and the dev is plainly deceiving punters. Don't be fooled. I have a maths PhD and happy to challenge anyone regarding my analysis. The devs “proof” is logically nothing of the sort - his “proof” is based on sampling that will not be statistically significant. The game consistently gets runs of 10-15 games when it is unbeatable even when I play at 90%+ accuracy, and as soon as I pull level it has another magic run?.Version: 6.2.1

It cheats! If early in the game you find yourself with a 50+ advantage, whatever you do, don’t double, because you will lose! The algorithm will conspire to ensure you lose the game. For example, whilst the game allows itself to hold open checkers in the home zone seemingly without threat, should you dare to you will be hit immediately! And whilst you will have no luck in your dice combinations, the algorithm will always deliver itself exactly what it needs almost every time. Incredibly frustrating and not useful as a training tool because it always wins despite playing “badly”. Avoid..Version: 6.3.9

Great but it cheatsThe computer cheats very often at all levels. Not fun at all. A real scam. They say it doesn't cheat but they are lyers. They obviously built an algorythm that favors drasticaly the computer..Version: 5.3.5

FrustratingI don’t care how random they claim the dice rolls to be.... I’ve played this app often enough in expert to predict their rolls, anticipate my own rolls, and can pretty much guarantee that I’ll win the Crawford game when 4-0 down. The number of doubles the computer throws for itself is ridiculous at the start. Problem is you start playing super defensively, as any risk taken is penalized!!.Version: 6.1.1

PatheticWhen lounging I flick to this. I was first introduced to backgammon as a game 40 plus years ago. I know how to play backgammon, and how to bet on it. Notwithstanding - I can’t win with this version. I must have forgotten how to play backgammon after I fell upon this -.Version: 6.0.3

Either dice rigged or life rigged....So much is written about randomness of the rolls, but its so painfully obvious that (game play aside) the types of rolls supposedly randomly rolled by the game too often look nothing like the type of rolls we experience playing with a real set of dice. Why is that? It’s not just perception. So something is out of sync between the randomness of playing with a real set of dice or the randomness of the dice generator. You all can keep spouting “here’s the proof”, but we all know that data and statistics can be manipulated and skewed to support any point of view. Despite playing for 40+ years, I cannot remember a single game where a player rolled 3 consecutive rolls of double 6’s, yet it happens all the time here. That just is not realistic nor is it random. On the other hand, I do believe that the game does not look ahead, but rather calculate odds to a degree that no (or few) human minds can, so it’s just going to be that much better in expert mode..Version: 6.3.9

OK, but as others have observed...It cheats. It's not even subtle. After a dozen matches even the simplistic statistics built into the game show 20% better rolls. If you don't expect a fair game then it's fine for a half hour. I measure my performance by how often it rolls the 5-3 or whatever it needs to pick off two blots, followed by some nice doubles to build a sudden 5 or 6 point break..Version: 2.5.2

PLEASE ReadI have owned and played this for more than 1 year. The game is good; however when you increase the difficulty, the computer cheats by giving itself the perfect dice roll each time and ensuring you don’t get what you need. (This is based on your win/loss ratio All that aside, it is nice and proper when you play online against other live people. So if you don’t mind bad programming done by lazy programmers that chose to cheat on dice rolls rather that enhance the computer player strategy, then this game is great for passing time..Version: 6.1.1

Great game but room for improvement !!!!I’ve been playing this App for many years now in expert mode. When I look at the dice statistics, the odds clearly show the dice overwhelmingly in the computers favor. 5 doubles in a row 4 times? That’s only the beginning. The dice show higher than expected doubles sometimes by double the %. Additionally the computer makes some highly questionable plays only to be bailed out by consecutive doubles repeatedly which leads me to believe it is aware of predicted rolls. That’s fine we can all hone that skill in theory but the amount of doubles really bothers me!.Version: 6.0.3

Loaded diceI don’t care with the developer says, if he is using a random number generator it certainly doesn’t behave that way. It is very frustrating to play with the game, where you rank up and play in the harder Or expert levels, instead of the Backgammon computer AI player getting better it’s just the dice rolls. That being said unfortunately this is still the best backgammon game on the market. The controls work well, and the game goes fast. Many of the other games are so enamored of the cartoon of dice rolling that they forget about the game..Version: 6.1.1

GarbageSad when you can predict the rolls the computer will make. This is NOT AI..Version: 6.1.1

Computer game too biasedWhen playing (hard level) against computer and doing well, it always fills up its home in successive moves making it impossible to win. It certainly doesn't feel like random dice throws. Computer is never left trying to get back on for more than a couple of throws either. So I just wait for real games, which can be slow arriving..Version: 6.2.1

Very annoyingI rate this game as an online version, however the AI is painful. It’s either too easy or on hard the dice are just plain rigged. You may win occasionally but the computer rolls exactly what it needs at key points in the game and makes it very frustrating to play. Disappointing game.Version: 6.0.3

Needs iOS 12 updateNice app, I liked it on iOS 11, but does not respond to “home” gesture on new iPhone with ios12. Update: The developer is correct, the “home” gesture in a landscape app is from the long side of the device rather than the short side. Poor UI design from Apple IMO rather than a mistake by the developer as I thought earlier. A point I should have made earlier is that it would be good to have a setting to never use Game Center so the Game Center Error dialog would not come up every time the app starts if, like me, you don’t want to use Game Center..Version: 6.1.1

Amazing (sarc)This app reassures me that I am a really good Backgammon player. I know this because the computer cannot beat me unless rolls doubles at least 4:1 ratio. DEVELOPER: “The game doesn’t cheat.” LOL. Of course it doesn’t. How many times did it happen to you that you start a new game. After the VERY FIRST move you double and the computer immediately resigns. LOL… of course it’s because it doesn’t know he moves already. Gimme a break. Ever played a human opponent who resigns right after the first move? Sure, tell me a story… I can print out the rolls. Seriously? Who cares? The fact the computer resigns right after the first move is an indication of it’s “honesty”. It’s entertaining, though..Version: 6.3.9

Very FrustratingIf you are a serious player this App is not for you. At expert level it's very badly designed. The dice rolls unrealistically too well. On the take out it never leaves a chance to counter attack. The designers can't be serious players themselves as they would know at Expert level the rolls are not realistic..Version: 6.0.3

Highly unlikelyI think it plays unfairly.Version: 6.3.9

PGMIn expert level it’s a one sided affair computer throws unfair dice.Version: 6.3.9

Not AgainExcellent app with a lot of options for learning & gaining insight into ones game. However, I’m still not convinced that the dice generator is truly random; as the A.I seems to have an uncanny way of rolling doubles at a rate of about 3:1 & similarly getting numbers that get it out of trouble a little all too easily. I checked this by using an external number generator & manually feeding in the data & ‘surprise, surprise’; my ‘wins’ significantly increased. I still play it with the odds against me as both a training tool for dealing with a ‘Flakey/lucky’ opponent &/or when I just need a dose of frustration & humility. - Dellazorro.Version: 6.3.9

Crashes a lotDeveloper said it was an issue with IOS 10 but same thing happening now with IOS 11 and no other apps crash like this one! Very annoying as I imagine it appears to your online opponent that you have deliberately disconnected to avoid losing or whatever..Version: 6.0.3

Great app but doesn’t recognise all backgammons and few gammonsGood but lack of recognition of wins is frustrating.Version: 6.3.9

Unplayable in expert modeThe game is adequate in terms of AI and you can learn a lot from it and can improve your play. Except in expert mode were the AI is massively supported by incredible dice rolls. If you manage to win a match (I play best of 7) the next few games you are toasted, it is like the AI is exacting revenge on you. Played around 23,000 games and never got above 1650 ELO, sometimes asking myself why playing this piece of crap..Version: 6.0.3

UnrealisticIn expert mode the dice always result in the perfect roll for the computer. If I knock out a piece it always returns the correct dice to get back in the game. Even with one column open it always returns that number and double if the computer has 2 pieces out. When my piece was out and there was 4 columns open I went 10 rolls without getting back in until the computer had closed off all possibilities. Expert mode does not mean better AI logic just perfect rolls for the computer..Version: 2.2.1

Addictive, and sort of fun. Computer programmed to win in certain scenarios - pityDon’t bother playing the computer, moves are not random.Version: 6.3.9

Dice rollsEverything everybody is saying about the random number generator in this app is true. With the manipulation of the true odds, all of the fun is taken out of the game. If you are lucky enough to be able to play the old version of this app (not the HD version) the dice rolls are much more normal and I believe random. I have had enough of playing against the app where they get four(4) rolls of doubles in the end game. Difficult to win against that type of random. Will never purchase another app from this supplier. The rolls are so one sided that it takes all fun out of playing the game. The app rolls what it needs to win, get on the board or knock you off. One game the app rolled five(5) doubles in six(6) moves in order to win. People who are smarter than I am in math and back up their comments with facts are right on the money. When it comes to calculating odds, I am quite knowledgeable. The odds in this app are just not possible..Version: 6.1.1

CheaterThe game is fun but it must cheat. The probability of the computer getting exactly the roll it needs, time and time again, far exceeds what fair odds would suggest. Still fun but I got awfully frustrated when miracle after miracle gets rolled by the computer..Version: 5.3.5

Backgammon HDThis is a great game for older iPads running IOS 9 or earlier. I also have a new iPad running IOS 11 but the app crashes quite often as it does for many others running the same IOS. I have been playing many hundreds of games over several years and therefore discovered that despite other reviews there is a plethora of doubles thrown against you when you play the computer. So YES, IT DOES CHEAT. Apart from that the UI has excellent graphics and wide ranging statistics. This is way and by far the best Backgammon game for the iPad. Don't waste your time playing against the computer. Playing others on the Net you will find the dice rolls are sensibly random..Version: 6.1.1

Dice are loadedDev takes great pains in claiming dice rolls are random (over large sample size) but on a per-game basis they are heavily loaded in favour of the app. There’s an unusually high number of consecutive doubles and duplicate rolls. Dev should add a true random number generator rather than continue claiming his scripted dice rolls are random..Version: 6.3.9

"They" say they're not cheating, but . . .I say they are and here's why: 1) I've played bg for years, I'm pretty darned good at it and I know I should do better against this app, particularly as one reviewer noted, at the upper levels of play 2) the computer's ability to get just EXACTLY the roll it needs, just when it needs it, is uncanny. it does it over and over. "I'm going to take this chance because the only way he can hit me is if he rolls a 2:5. ... "2:5"!!! OK, but this time, he'd have to roll a 4:6. ... "4:6"!!! Or I'll make a move, leave a man open and think "just don't roll a 4 and I'm good". ... "4". I get back in and think "don't roll a 6". ... "6". I don't get this "luck" nearly as much as I should. 3) Finally, and i've saved this for last. the programmers keep touting that we can print out a list of all upcoming rolls for the game, just to make sure it's not cheating. So you're telling me all rolls are rolled ahead of time and they're predetermined? So why shouldn't I think the computer is looking at the upcoming, predermined rolls thinking "Next I'm going to get a 3:2; take the human off and close my 5-spot, then the human will be getting a 5:5, which will by then be blocked, then I will be getting a 6:6, which will enable me to close my 4-spot off and take another of his pips off the board. Hmmmm, I think I'll DOUBLE!" I say it cheats..Version: 6.0.3

Cheats!!Finding my game is suffering as I continue to take fewer risks, knowing the computer cannot fail to hit my single blots, should I dare to leave any! Absolutely rigged, too many repeated doubles on the other side. Just allows the occasional win to keep you playing but if you are considering buying this as a ‘non-cheating’ app, don’t bother!.Version: 6.3.9

Crash centralEnjoyed this app for a couple years but just can’t anymore. Because it cheats? No, it doesn’t. But because of the frequency of crashes. Getting a crash when in multiplayer is more frequent than hitting doubles, especially if you dare hit the chat button. Want to congrat the other player for well played game? Instead you crash out, looking like you rage quit. The chat button goes blue? Don’t answer it, as you have high probability of crashing out of the app. Also, avoid multiplayer on slow connection, you will frequently drop or cause frustration to other players as it will take ages to communicate your move. If you want pure solo it’s reliable and exceptional. Playing network play is like leaving all your pups open across the board.Version: 6.1.1

Loaded dicePlaying against the AI it routinely throws exactly the numbers it needs and a ‘better than chance’ number of doubles. Changing difficulty in the game alters the ‘luck’ element but there’s very little skill involved. Lots of options to choose from but it’s really unclear how to play online..Version: 6.3.9

Definitely DistortedIt's a real joke. This is not a neutral game, even at Easy level. The interface is nice, but it absolutely produces absurd advantages to the computer, very occasionally offering equally ridiculous wins for the player. Dice patterns repeat comically and predictably. Computer wins the opening roll 90% of the time. Computer gets exactly what it needs...and you also get what the computer needs. Computer always gets multiple doubles just as it's bearing off. Forget about getting back on the board from the bar no matter how open, though the computer gets back in immediately no matter the odds. You have to consider this an abusive backgammon exerciser, and not a neutral game. And it really makes you hate Backgammon. A real joke..Version: 6.0.3

These dice are loaded..I have been playing long enough to know that one player cannot have that much luck, the dice rolls should be random but this game is obviously designed to frustrate the player into playing game after game when there is little chance to win. I will be deleting this game..Version: 6.0.3

SEVERE Cheating AppThis app cheats bad. I am a fairly good backgammon player and have never encountered a human opponent who rolls this timely and well. The developer touts that the way to prove the game does not cheat is to see that it’s next 100 rolls are pre-determined. That’s fine. What he does not say is the following: 1. The player rolls are NOT pre-determined. The human player rolls are determined by game situation. You are consistently given sub-optimal rolls, typically in early- or mid-game points. Knowing the AI roll to come, you are forced into making decisions that the AI will almost always pounce on. 2. The AI gets off the bar significantly faster than the player - always. I have had games where it takes 10+ rolls to get off the bar with multiple pips open. Even with only one in my home open, the AI gets that roll quicker because, in the pre-determined rolls, it ensures coverage of all sides of the dice faster. 3. The AI wins the first roll 75% of the time. 4. The AI gets doubles twice as often in normal play. To “even up” the average roll for the player, your doubles come when on the bar and with pips you cannot play on - even if 3 are open. 5. The AI gets early game doubles much more frequently than the player. Also, never accept the doubling cube when initiated by the AI; they will win that game 19/20 times no matter the situation. Absolute cheating. At its finest..Version: 6.3.9

Fine when it doesn’t crashIt’s a well done game, but it crashes every few minutes. That’s particularly annoying when playing online. Not updated in ages, and the developer obviously doesn’t care..Version: 6.3.9

Only ten reviews in 4 years??To me this says a lot. There are inconsistencies in the “scoring” throws. The computer has more “Beneficial” throws than the player: Both in the board play and the paring off play areas. To illustrate the point; when pairing off there are more doubles rolled by the computer than player. Approximately 70% /30%. This was taken from a random ten games over a week. I have been playing this app for several years, and have to have a break when the winning streak gets to me. jd.Version: 6.3.9

Good game but not worth costI find that despite claims of Radom dice, there is a pattern to certain situations that suggests otherwise. I scanned upcoming dice rolls looking for double sixes. More turned up than skated. I like being beat by computers. When something seems unfair it triggers addictive behaviour. I instinctively get rid of such games..Version: 5.3.5

Hmmm…After playing for the last few weeks, I have found this game to be challenging and changed my rating. Interestingly, if you reset the statistics after each game, the algorithm for the dice rolls seem to be less “suspiciously perfect” for the computer and I am winning more matches. Hmmm!.Version: 6.3.9

Totally rigged on expert modeI have played Backgammon to a high level for over 30 years and the expert mode is completely rigged. Don’t believe what the developers say about predetermined rolls as the reality is that one slight error and the computer player destroys you..Version: 6.3.9

Found a good bg appAfter 2 years of Lord of the Board and the cheating rolls, it’s a relief to have random rolls. Good game on expert. After a few weeks on it now, I see how it’s done. If you go hard or expert the computer rolls aren’t random and the computer gets doubles when it needs. Shame it would have been a good game..Version: 6.3.9

Algorithm is definitely set in computers favourI have played a number of Backgammon apps. In terms of its being challenging this is by far the best. However, once you move beyond the “easy” level, the number of occasions when the computer rolls the exact number required to remove my piece and block me from the board is, well uncanny, and not in keeping with the reality of actually playing a human opponent. I’m sorry I don’t care how often you claim it not to be true it just is. I’m Getting rid of my version after this. I emphatically do not recommend this app..Version: 6.1.1

~sigh~I was willing to give the developer the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the subject of cheating. In fact he goes to great lengths in the app description to emphatically state and re-state that his app doesn't cheat. He even has testimonials from bona fide champions endorsing this app. However, after playing close to two hundred games, all I will say is that it's absolutely uncanny how many perfect rolls the computer gets time after time after time. I consider myself to be an advanced player, having won (and lost) a few tournaments, and I have never seen any human opponent roll anything remotely close to what I regularly see when I play at the expert level. So, does the game cheat??? Hell, yes!!.Version: 0

Great APP in terms of functionality BUT........If you’d like an un-biased playing experience DON’T PURCHASE THIS APP. It’s heavily stacked against you, the player..Version: 6.1.1

Best Backgammon ApExcellent ap. Too many idiots out there in live play, who bemoan their luck and throw insults. End game option too slow to activate when opponent fails to choose whether to play or not. In computer mode, computer simply must know what's coming up in expert level.Version: 6.0.3

New felt graphicsNew felt graphics a big step backwards .... please fix ....still rigged.Version: 6.3.9

Game cheatsI always have a good laugh when people write reviews that claim this game can’t cheat because it rolls the dice in advance and provides stats on the number of doubles for both players. There is nothing to stop this app from generating dozens (or even hundreds) of rolls before it picks one set that favors the game. I’ve played 100s of games on this app and win 48% of the time. But if you pay close attention as you go you’ll see how remarkably “lucky” the game is at consistently get the just rolls it needs to turn around an unfavorable board. It is a smart app but the smarts are all in generating 100 rolls that makes it hard to beat..Version: 6.3.9

CrapThis app is crap. The dice rolls are far from random! Make the dice rolls truly random and then ya have a decent app. Plus players can simply disconnect their wifi and avoid a loss. Find a way to stop this and or put penalties in place for players that disconnect instead of taking the loss..Version: 6.1.1

HmmmDespite the fact that the game appears rigged on expert setting, I am swayed by the indignation of the developer that it is not. The uneasiness remains that over many, many games I am convinced it gets into a one to 3 point Board far, far faster than I do. Nevertheless, what I would say is following the hints is to be done with extreme caution. When it appears the hint suggests a move that is high risk, beware. They usually lead to catastrophic defeats leaving one wondering why take such a risk? The dice may not be loaded, but the hints are a road to ruin..Version: 6.1.1

Too many glitchesI love the interface of this app and have been playing for a few years. You can work your way up the rankings ( ELO ) to see you improvement. Unfortunately on several occasions the app has dropped my ranking by over 100 points. Clear evidence ( match files saved on app ) show me losing the same match 16 times. App developers say there is nothing they can do about it as it's run by Apples Game Center. It can take up to 6 months to gain 100 points on your Elo. If your competitive and want to rise up the rankings be prepared to accept you may get relegated back to the bottom for no reason. Very frustrating..Version: 6.0.3

InconsistentThis is the best of a bad bunch of BG apps but it is very annoying. I know the developers deny it but it is definitely not related to real life. Every time you leave a man unguarded the computer hits it and I have counted up to at least ten tries to get back in. When computer loses a man nearly every time it gets back in on the only space available within a couple of throws. When bearing off I have seen five doubles in a row for the computer but rarely any for me! This needs work from programmers. I get so frustrated I regularly uninstall it for months at a time until the memory fades..Version: 5.2.1

The App Cheats - DON’T BUY ITIf you’re looking for a fun and relaxing way to spend a few minutes, don’t buy this App. As many, many other reviewers point out, the App cheats. The App gets dice rolls that no human player would ever get, such as 3 consecutive double sixes and, invariably, always the roll needed to win the game in the last turn when you’re about to win (usually you have 2 pieces left, the App has 4 pieces, and, no surprise, the App rolls just the double it needs). No matter where you have an open piece, the App gets the perfect roll to bump you. And what is most frustrating is that when you bump one of the App’s pieces, it typically gets comes on the board on its first roll - and usually in the only open slot on your side of the board. However, en the App bumps one of your pieces, you may as well concede the game because 15, 20 or more rolls later your piece is still bumped and you usually can’t get back on the board until the App is on the verge of winning. The developer must have a major inferiority complex to build an App that always has to win..Version: 6.1.1

A thoughtQuite a number of people believe that your app is stacked against them. How about instead of just blindly defending yourself, recognize that whether you are right or they are right is almost irrelevant. People feel that it is unfair. How about you try to adapt some to what is being said? I play on your app because it’s fun sometimes and mostly become a better player. Maybe also enhance your hint function to teach more. In this electronic world perception is reality. Thank you for considering..Version: 6.3.9

Rolls go against odds at higher levelsI have to agree with other reviewers. While I think the app is good to force you to play your best to win, it also regularly beats the odds when it matters in the games. Even the most cynical player has to acknowledge that 1:216 can happen once in a while, but play enough and you will see the program get the rolls in high leverage situations more often than not..Version: 6.0.3

Great gameProblem is in expert mode it cheats roll after roll in favor of the app. They will tell you to review the rolls it's always in favor of the app. It even can beat the computer. There is no possible way to get those rolls when you are casting. Sure they will reply look at the rolls but since the app knows the rolls you'll be had every game. Of course they have some gammon expert on their site stating it's the best game but if you ever watched pro gammon players they would never take chances like the app. Why because they don't know the next roll. Even it you change the multiplier in the app it favors the app. Start a game and hit auto finish it will time and time again win. Don't waste your money..Version: 6.0.3

Not Random, not AIScripted dice! This is not "big blue" calculating moves. Its pretty well laid out in prescripted dice rolls, with limited ai, if any. Increases in difficulty level means poor rolls (eg. 5/1 vs 6/1), and the computer gets better rolls, more doubles. I suspect the scripting even continues on live play, why reinvent the wheel. The algorithm use for dice rolls is a joke..Version: 6.3.9

Scam!!!Ppl let me tell you this is probably one of the worst Backgammon games I've played where the AI are given pretty much every roll it needs to beat you with. The developer begins to tell you that the rolls are generated randomly and the app is fair, and I can say after playing this game that is utter BS. I could care less when the developer sits there and says go to this link and here's proof that it doesn't cheat. I've been playing backgammon all my life with ppl in person and on apps, and have never seen roll after roll after roll given to the AI to beat you with its ABSURD!!! Dice not randomI am 61 years old and have been playing Backgammon at a high level for over forty years. I have read that many feel that the dice on this App is not random so I purchased the full version and we ran a test of 40 games. On 28 of the games at 'expert' level we were going to have easy wins where the only way the computer could redeem its situation was by throwing certain exact numbers for at least the following two throws. This the computer did on the 28 occasions. On one it threw 6 doubles consecutively, and on 8 other occasions whilst bearing off it threw 4 doubles in 5 throws. The conclusion is that the dice is not random and we would advise against buying this app..Version: 6.1.1

OK, but computer definitely cheatsYes, it has 100 rolls ahead, but remember it knows what's coming up and you don't! If you set it for high difficulty, though, expect it to let you win fewer times. Not great, just OK..Version: 2.5.2

Dice are loaded against the computer.Look at you dice stats and you’ll see how bad it is… playing against fake roll does not teach you proper skills.Version: 6.3.9

Stupid Game at Harder LevelsIf you play at the harder levels the computer opponent continually gets wonderful dice throws eg at the death lots of doubles. Don’t insult me by saying this is chance. I’ve played this game regularly during covid quarantine and I’ve seen the patterns. The problem is that your Backgammon play gets worse not better as you adjust to the wonderful luck your opponent has and take fewer risks.Version: 6.3.9

DiceWhy not use A random generated dice and not a script.Version: 6.1.1

The Developer has some explaining to do!How do you get doubles six times in a row? How do you get three double 5 in 4 roles? The odds are not normal comparing to real life! The doubles come in a streak! The program for rolls needs to be modified to simulate real world dice odds! I have been playing backgammon for over 40 years and have never seen the kind of dice roles that this App gives a player!.Version: 6.3.9

Avoid - this is not a good AppWhilst the App is technically ok (i.e. it won’t crash) the programming relies on fixing the die rolls to beat you when you play against the App. Some reviewers (I don’t know how authentic they are) will try to convince you that the die rolls are random. They are not for the higher levels. Increasingly biased die rolls are used as a pretence for the App having incrementally better skill. So, you get the illusion of playing backgammon but.... don’t be fooled!.Version: 6.3.9

Too many coincidencesAt the beginner level, I was quite happy to accept that I needed better strategy and that was why I was being beaten. When I began to win games consistently, I moved up to the next level. The number of occasions that the computer just "happened" to throw the exact number to take my pieces defies coincidence. I like a challenge and was enjoying the game and learning its strategy. It ceases to be a challenge when the computer beats one by continually rolling the correct number to take one's counter in the closing stages of the game. I am now looking for a review of a different version of backgammon that does not display such bias..Version: 6.0.3

Lots of features but dodgy algorithmsA full featured backgammon game with lots of controls and options. The hint feature can be useful to learn more and progress but my main complaint is that this game definitely 'cheats' (I know, the makers go to great lengths to point out that the dice rolls a preprogrammed and don't change in response to the game circumstances, but... I can still manage to get around 50% of wins in expert mode but only after I worked out that the game is programmed so that if you get pinged you will virtually never be able to roll dice numbers that gets you off the bar...so it favours pinging your opponent even if you leave yourself exposed as he will take numerous moves to get off the bar enabling you plenty of time to cover your exposed pieces or block him in further. After playing backgammon regularly for over 40 years against all sorts of opponents both human and computer I can tell you 'Real world' backgammon isn't like this so while this game is a fun and interesting challenge it isn't like playing the real game..Version: 5.2.1

Unrealistic, having to watch the next 100 rolls to level the playing fieldJimmy, I got your response and my feelings have changed slightly. If I’m watching every other dice roll, appears to be following the next 100 rolls. That being said, since I’m watching the next 100 rolls, like the AI, I can plan against the upcoming rolls. Now I’m winning at a higher percentage....so what. I want to play backgammon, the real game with some skill and some luck of the roll. Playing a real game of backgammon I would never be able to plan against upcoming rolls, so the game is unrealistic. If I can review upcoming rolls, so can the AI, just saying! It should be completely random for both me and the AI. Who wants to constantly be jumping out of the game to review the next 100 rolls. My opinion! I changed my rating to 3 stars..Version: 6.1.1

Ripoff!Computer cheats regardless of what the developer may say! Don't buy it!!.Version: 6.0.3

It cheats and so it gets 1 starUpdate from Jimmy response: After 76,000 rolls, the computer has better stats in every major category: avg per roll, frequency of doubles, getting out on 5 point board, etc. They spend a lot of time proving the game doesn't look ahead, but they don't deny the rolls are unbalanced (random and unbalanced are two different things). His "proofs" don't address the following: Pips/roll are 8.15 vs 8.17, doubles % are 16.5 vs 16.9, 5pt board are 29.3 vs 31.3, 4pt board is 55 vs 55.8, 3pt board are 74.6 vs 75.9, 2pt board are 88.1 vs 89.5, and 1pt board are 97.5 vs 97.6. The 5pt board statistic, this is nearly 3 standard deviations from the mean and therefore statistically improbable. Add to that stat that the computer leads me in every stat and in every case the computer beats the mean expected and I think it proves cheating. Update: Up to 221k rolls and all the above holds true. Computer rolls have led human rolls in 1. Opening rolls 2. Entering from the bar in a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 point bar. I don’t know the statistical odds of this, but it seems improbable after 9000 matches. Seems to me the rolls would even out over time, but it doesn’t happen..Version: 6.3.9

Not coolToo often opponents quit in the middle of a match or you are left waiting while they effectively stop playing during a match (although sometimes they might have lost internet connection). The last 5 or 6 matches I played I was not able to finish the matches due to opponents quitting before the match had ended. Highly annoying! Can people who deliberately keep aborting matches please be booted off?.Version: 5.0.3
