Backgammon NJ for Negative User Reviews

UnfairI guess you can't expect the computer to play smart. So to win it gains some funny advantages. For example, I hit the computer piece, sits right back in, even if i have only one spot open. If the computer hots me, I may stay out for even five rounds, while many spots are open... yet magically gets closed as I am trying to get back in. And guess what, I get so many doubles while I am out... double sixes, fours... Finally, if i am trying to stay in computer's zone to possibly hit it, i keep getting sixes to get out, but right after two and ones roll in.....Version: 6.0.2

UncannyUncanny how when AI gets all in home row that double after double come up, turning a close game into rout. Uncanny how after accepting doubles AI nails you, without fail. While I enjoy the challenge once you play enough and get nailed by this pattern enough sometimes you just need to put it down for a month. Just played a game where my set up coming home was well placed. The AI then offers to double. I accept. And the only combination that could have nailed me was rolled. There in followed six straight rolls where I could not get in with two spaces open and only when the six spot was open all the other spots were covered then I roll of six. Gammon. All you can do is laugh..Version: 6.0.2

The worse ever!!!!!!It’s not enjoyable to play, it’s stressful!!! Computer gets 3 - 4 doubles in a row. Gets the exact number to get your man every time. I’ve had this game since 2010. I like the look and it’s just plain backgammon, no fancy graphics and as junk like most game apps. I like being challenged but when I can only move one or two men at a time in and he moves four several times in a row when I was ahead to start. It just takes the fun and challenge out of the game. I will be deleting this app. It’s NOT random rolls no matter what the developer says. It’s too bad because I’m mostly bedridden and really would like to play this but not worth it, too frustrating. It’s not about winning at all, it’s about playing fair. Hate this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Version: 6.3.8

MikeWhy are the dice so one sided not very realistic, the computer gets 4 to one doubles and always at the right time not realistic very frustrating. Please don’t try and convince people that the dice are random, they are not, and the game also knows what’s coming next so it can anticipate the next move. The plus to this game is that it has improved my game 10 fold. I’m actually a very good player now and challenge your app to a game with no doubles for either the computer or for me, and I believe I would win most times. I would just like to add, when I eventually get doubles it when I really don’t want them and if you know the game you will understand. PLEASE STOP STOP TELLING PEOPLE ITS NOT FIXED, IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop..Version: 6.1

NaaaaaHigher difficulty levels, dice rigged. Appreciate what you’ve done as proof, but even with Pre recorded ‘random’ rolls there are situations that can be created that most good players would likely get themselves into, that you can rig ie assume at an early point in the game a checker would be on the bar and ALWAYS throwing the only double corresponding to the only point that is closed so you can’t reenter..Version: 6.3.8

RidiculousAbsolutely pointless playing this game. AI magic dice...every time. It's just astonishing. Like banging your head repeatedly against a brick wall....but nowhere near as much fun. Avoid. Do not buy. Or if you do, be prepared for the damage to your walls and phone when you are compelled to fling the device as hard as you can away from you in sheer frustration and rage. Human opponents are NEVER as lucky as this thing. Unable to express how bad this is..Version: 6.3.8

Game cheatsDoesn’t take the greedy move during auto bear-off, even when it’s risk free to do so..Version: 6.3.8

Plays okay BUT cheatsThere has been too many times when this game ‘cheats’ to win..Version: 6.3.8

BrutalComputer rolls perfect dices most of the times. Almost impossible to win at expert level..Version: 6.0.2

Surprised that many years on still not stable.Surprised that many years on still not stable. Drops out way more that the games I could play full against online opponent. The computer does feel bias, but that doesn't matter if so as you have to practice against harder opponents anyway. What gets me is that it is a paid game. So ask for $5 or 10 more but give an ap that works perfect..Version: 6.3.8

Good app but dodgy diceThe computer constantly throws uncanny lucky throws. Why oh why would the developer make it so the computer cheats?? Could also be much better if there was some quicker way of communicating with online players..Version: 6.3.8

Do not buy!Anytime a game's AI has a 50/50 chance of winning, logic dictates that half of the people playing will suspect that the game cheats. So I paid little attention when I read user reviews implying that this game was rigged. Secondly, logic also dictates that anyone creating a rigged app would have to be crazy... He'd be frustrating his paying customers. Not a good business practice. However - and this is where I risk sounding like a conspiracy theorist - this game consistently gets ridiculous rolls against all odds. Now, please understand, I highly appreciate the AI built into this game. However, I cannot say the same of the rolls of the dice. The developer has gone to great lengths to try to 'prove' that this game doesn't cheat. And his arguments seem solid. Yet, after playing hundreds of games (I know, I'm a long-suffering fellow who needs to get a life), when I need a specific number on one of the dice, it very rarely shows up. Yet, the AI too consistently rolls the exact number it needs. There are even times where I seem to catch a break, only to see the 'computer' go on some odds-defying tear to rip my heart out. And I haven't even touched on the AI's selective rolling of doubles... So many aspects of this game make me want to throw my mobile device out the window in frustration (but I'm a long-suffering fellow, remembers?). Save your money, this game is so illogical that even this review defies logic... Save hours of frustration and keep looking... This is a terribly frustrating game. The only reason I've not deleted it is because I believe my review could be deleted as well. I just wish I could give this app zero stars... One star is one star too many. UPDATE: Found another backgammon game with AI that doesn't consistently roll exactly what it needs... Keep looking, the truth is out there (I don't think reviewers are supposed to direct to other apps in a review so you'll have to do some digging)..Version: 5.1

MrIn expert mode the dice conveniently falls on what the computer needs. I suspect cheating in order for the computer to win.Version: 2.4.2

CheatingI suspect in exert mode the Game is cheating with the dice.Version: 2.3.1

Excellent game impossible rolls for computerRead reviews thought many were sour grapes poor backgammon players but have to say after playing over 3100 games whether I am a horrible backgammon player or not it is impossible for the computer to get “out” as quickly as it does with one opening when my player can be bumped for 5-7 turns with three slots open as often as it does. My win percentage hovers around 35% on expert which is a trigger number for “hope” in most studies for failure. Again I may be a miserable backgammon player but I can tell you the roll the computer will get when I leave an open chip or have computer bumped more then not. Would love to see computer get locked like I do with 50% open slots but after 3100+ games it is not likely to happen. Empirically the game cheats and that is not because I lose but because I have yet to see it run into a stream of bad rolls like I get (and anyone would get if playing a regular game). I have seen the “risk management” arguments and I dismiss them because it is not about losing (I have a friend who pummels me when we play about the same as the computer and I can get him on a bad run of rolls like I get, not the computer). Anyhow it seems by reading the reviews the developer has no interest in “fixing” this so play and enjoy if u can..Version: 6.1

Yes and No! I am fairly confident it shows bias to the computer when it’s behind.I am not convinced that the computer doesn't load throws to suit itself. When I count the doubles the engine gives itself they almost always exceed the number of doubles it gives to me - sometimes, when I have closed the programme to generate new numbers for me or the computer opposition, it has taken over thirty restarts to get just one dice to show what I require - statistically, nigh on impossible! . The engine is very smart and quite capable of setting up its human opponent, methinks..Version: 6.2.2

Don’t buy it - awful UXCan’t play in portrait mode Can’t play with one hand as it lacks cruelly of automatisms Really disappointed and I don’t know whether it is possible but would love to have a refund and I would certainly buy another game.Version: 6.3.8

Waste of a great interfaceThis game would be joy to play if it was fair. All rolls are predetermined at the start of the game. You are able to look at these to "prove" the game will not cheat - unfortunately the game can also look ahead. For instance it will often leave two blots open in your home table while you have one on the bar - and get away with it! This happens all the time even when much better moves are available. After 30 years, playing nearly every day, I know when the odds don't add up..Version: 4.1

The stats don’t lieThe stats don’t lie … even on Easy mode the dice are biased in favor of the computer AI. The computer consistently rolls 1.5 to 2x the number of doubles than the human player. The ratios for computer vs. human rolling 2 doubles in a row or 3 doubles in a row is even more absurd. The game is still enjoyable as long as you understand the dice will usually not roll your way..Version: 6.3.8

Worthwhile but flawedI am downgrading this review from 5 to 3 stars - still recommending the game, but as you get better the obvious dice skew in the AI’s favour starts to become genuinely annoying. My guess is the AI choosing the best order of its next ten rolls. By ‘better’ I mean I now play respectably in tournaments, but am by no means the best player there. This is a great shame as the UI is slick, the game’s AI plays superbly without it and, if you can be bothered with manually rolling - which is an option - it’s a great pleasure and more than strong enough to be the better player anyway..Version: 6.2.2

Do Not BuyThe dice rolls are not random. The only difference between the easy and expert levels is that they control dice outcomes (for expert level) to make it more difficult for the player to win! Such a waste of money..Version: 3.0.2

CheatsVery annoying as it cheats with the dice. You know this is the case as you can beat it if you roll your own dice but when it decides the dice it seems to get lucky.Version: 6.1

100 percent dishonestI don’t care how many times these app creators say the dice is fair they’re just not saying the truth . I’m a very good player and I have a hard time beating it sometimes . . I mean the computer gets 6 :1 4 times in a row to hit me because if it didn’t it would definitely lose the game . 4 times in a row same numbers . Ok . For the app makers you’re just insulting people’s intelligence ..Version: 6.3.8

Good butI’ve been playing this for many years now and I am just about fed up with how the app appears to just ‘cheat’ in order to balance wins. It says that all dice rolls are random but I don’t believe it. The app just gets too many consecutive doubles at just the right times to be random. When I am waiting to get a piece back in play I often wait 6 or 7 moves whilst the app rarely waits more than 2 moves. I’m not sure why I have put up with it for so long really! Also, if you set hard it is impossible to win more than 1 in 10 games, which is just boring. And anyway, how can you set a level of ability in a game that is pure chance (dice game) without doctoring the roll?? I’m finally going to look for another one..Version: 6.3.8

No wayI can not believe the dice rolls are random. Anyone saying otherwise is a plant for the game seller. I give it 1/4 star, unfortunately, like winning the game, that rating is not an option. For $4.99 I want a refund. Btw, nice graphics, but you can't tell a game by its cover. I agree. Almost every situation at the end when I’ve blocked in a blot or two and leave one open on next roll it sends it back and I loose..Version: 6.2.2

SatisfiedUnsatisfied that dice rolls are scripted and predetermined. Unrealistic combinations and repeat doublets are a source of consternation. Needs real-time dice rolling algorithm! After several hundred games I feel I am improving, albeit slowly. Wish there was more strategic guidance or tables of rolls/percentages to reference (though pointless the way dice are implemented here). Online can be okay though plagued by amateurs doubling at odd times, preoccupied with accumulating match points and not focused on the game in front of them. Some players slow to move or abandon games- should be penalty/forfeit here. Maybe this is implemented, it’s been along while since I played online. There are good books on the game which detail strategy and risk management. I suggest looking into them and playing on a real board to fully realize what a nice pastime this addictive game can be..Version: 6.1

Rolls definitely slanted for computerI don’t care what the description says, definitely gives better rolls for the App. I started counting, and the app gets way more doubles than the player, in addition to the seemingly low probability perfect rolls the App always seems to get when needed (I didn’t count those though). Not a lot of fun to play a game you constantly lose too. Started trying other backgammon apps, and I found out I could actually win my share of games. With this app, it’s the miracle once in awhile I can win a match. Definitely pass this one by..Version: 6.1

BackgammonIt crashes a lot.Version: 6.1

The jury's still outSeveral points: 1) when I play on Expert , the computers error rate is supposed to be 0.0 yet three times now I have gammoned it because it chose to make a move with a stone already in its inner rather than bring its last stone into the inner and avoid the gammon. This is a real head-scratcher as I don't see how a perfect player would willingly double its loss. 2) despite having read the authors claim that it doesn't cheat, I'm still not totally convinced. If the odds of rolling doubles are 1:6, the odds of rolling unusable doubles (doubles where the computer has the point on its inner) on the first roll after having a stone 'hit' should be somewhat less , yet it seems staggeringly high. At some point I'll start documenting it more exactly and report my findings. This is most noticeable with double 6s as the computer naturally has that point from the start. There are other instances where all too often I need one of two rolls (1:9 chance) and I know I'm NEVER going to get them before the computer kills me. The computer also SEEMS to know this as it will leave stones exposed that I can't hit. 3) despite 2) or probably because of it I have become a stronger player. Update: further to my issue in 2) I played about 20 games this morning and got unusable double 6s 4 times first roll after being hit (twice in one game) and I would guess I had maybe 30-35 hits in that time. The computer doesn't seem to have this issue..Version: 6.0.2

Disgusting AppIn real time play, the app FREQUENTLY disconnects. Get ready for frustration. Also, in spite of developers denials, when playing against the app, this will very predictably get the precise rolls it needs to get out of a jam and beat you. Developers claim to allow you access to the next one hundred rolls to refute any claim of dishonesty. Don’t fall for it. This game will even use poor strategy and still be you more often than not..Version: 6.3.8

It’s not like a real gameI’ve been playing this app for quite a few years and enjoy it but frustrates me sometimes. Dice rolls are nothing like a real game . So many doubles. Anyway I suspected for some time it knows what’s coming . Today I had proof . I had 2 counters left on the first position to bear off and the computer had 4 pieces in the 3rd position to bear off . So I asked it if it wanted to double . It could only win if the next dice was double 3 or above . To my amazement it accepted the double . Then threw double 4 and won the game . I think that says enough ..Version: 6.1

Good game butDice are pretty unfair when you play hard against the computer.Version: 5.0.2

Cheats, but I keep playingI laugh every time when the game is even or slight player advantage and it offers a double. You pause, ask yourself what the worst role could be, and it gets that role every time. Or when it takes insane chances, and you can be sure then that you won’t get that role. Bottom-line, the computer knows the roles 1 or maybe 2 turns ahead. But still enjoy the game if you don’t play too often. Definitely gets annoying if play too much..Version: 6.1

Plays well but unrealisticI believe that the look and feel of This backgammon app is the best out there. I have read many other reviews and I have noticed that the developer is maniacally defensive about comments that the game is skewed toward the AI. I have to say, though, that after having played literally thousands of games on this app, there is absolutely no doubt that it is skewed toward the AI. Yes, I have a slight winning record but the incredible number of times the AI gets perfect rolls is just ridiculous. There is no risk a human player can make that will go unpunished and no opportunity for the AI that will go unfulfilled. I've also noticed that the game is "streaky". When I realize that the streak is in my favor I know I can make riskier plays, and play more conservatively when the streak is against me. The game has such good motion, appearance, and fluid motion I have been reluctant to give up on it. The time has come, though, where my frustration with the game has superseded the positive attributes. When the developer makes changes in logic to achieve more realistic outcomes I will gladly come back, but for now I am done with this game..Version: 6.0.2

No point in playing. These dice are fixed. No way they are random.Version: 6.3.8

The dice can not be randomThe computer wins the hard level mostly by receiving at least 3 sets of doubles when bearing off. I have played hundreds of games and it doesn't seem random to me..Version: 6.0.2

Ridiculously weighted in computers favour! This game ought to be great... but isn't. I concur with the previous reviews entirely who highlight the same issue. If the computer offers you a double, don't accept as you will not win, no matter how strong your position!.Version: 6.0.2

Frustrating for beginnersWhatever the statistics and the expert players say, if you're a beginner this game will *seem* like it's cheating and/or extremely lucky. It may be great practice for more experienced players, but is so frustrating for newbies that you'll probably want to delete it. I'm not questioning the integrity of the game or the developer, just suggesting it may not be the right app if you're new to backgammon. To the developer: how about an easier level that lets newbies win enough that they are inspired to keep playing?.Version: 2.5.3

Says it’s fair, definitely cheats!Dice rolls are not natural. Smooth game, good way to learn, but no way this is random or fair dice rolls..Version: 6.3.8

Cheats at expert levelThis plays much the same game at every level. Slightly better tactics as the level increases. Easy to beat at all the first three levels. But at expert level the dice are manipulated or the game looks ahead at the dice table. There’s a pattern to it. Time and time and time again it throws a series of 6-8 throws from a position of hopelessness to winning the game. To those claiming it doesn’t cheat. Look closer at the expert level dice throws. Ignore the author’s claim to the contrary..Version: 6.3.8

Really bad BG App.The AI rolls/moves are not completely random. They might be randomized with given probabilities (ie odds in AI's favour) which makes playing a fair game difficult and frustrating. I would certainly not recommend that anyone spend any money on this game..Version: 4.0

So-soThe gameplay itself is fine, but it's pointless, you can't accept a double and even have a chance to win, as soon as you do, the computer will have you primed out in a matter of two or three rolls. And when you have the advantage and a double is the obvious choice, the computer will take the double against the odds and get exactly the rolls it needs to pull it off. I've played enough times to predict what the computer will roll. This needs to be fixed! *the only legit way to play is to manual roll which defeats the purpose.Version: 6.0.2

Cheaters ruin itThe online play is flawed by cheaters. Even after the latest update. All you have to do is wait for the advantage to be in your favor and let the game time out. You will win the points. Too bad it ruins the online play and there are so many jerky cheaters. Sorry to the developers but there has to be a way to fix this..Version: 5.0.2

FrustratingI have played this off and on for years. I always play it for about three days and the get fed up and delete it. Then i download it again after a few months—it’s rigged. It cheats. The computer gets amazing rolls, always what it needs to take your pieces and then when it is a race to the end, suddenly the real player’s dice are always low. The game never crashes. It is pretty, but it is an exercise is masochism. Only play if you enjoy losing. (I am a very good backgammon player except when I play this app. Then, I’m the world’s biggest loser.).Version: 6.1

Cheats on playing optionsI started noticing that sometimes if you roll a 2 and a 4, for example, it won’t let you move 2. I’ve taken screen shots of this when it happens. It just happened and the 2 it wasn’t letting me move was to hit. Very frustrating! I’m happy to send the screenshots to whomever. I couldn’t figure out how to post them here. I will for sure send you screenshots of the disputed plays. I am familiar with the rules of backgammon and await your opinion on these situations. I only wish I could post them here..Version: 6.1

Online good. Offline cheat.Online play against real folks is goo but the off line vs computer seems to cheat..Version: 2.4

Dices should be randomized all the timeNice.Version: 6.3.8

Play against the oddsThis algo cheats in the most blatant way (even though it claims not to be). Just roll your own dice to compare. Not sure why developers don’t make it a fair game. Don’t waste your money ....Version: 6.1

Frustrating! After reading the mixed reviews, I thought I’d give this app a go. I have used a different programme for years and play Backgammon daily, but I wanted to find something more challenging. In some respects, this offers some challenge and it is possible to beat the computer (I’m referring to the most difficult level, by the way). But this is rare as the dice throws are completely biased, always coming up with the ideal throws and finishing off with copious doubles. It’s a waste of time (and money) really. Is it really all that difficult to come up with a programme that offers a true challenge without resorting to biased dice throws for the computer?.Version: 6.3.8

AI Dice CheatsIt saddens me to see the AI cheat so obviously on dice rolls. The app claims that since the rolls are pre-determined before the game is played, that somehow prevents cheating. It does not mean the pre-determined dice rolls arent already stacked! It becomes painfully obvious when playing on the higher difficulties. You have 31% odds to roll a given number (below or equal to 6) in any given roll. But any time you need a given number, it will take 5-10 rolls to get it. Every time. Never once will you get it in the first 3 rolls as the odds predict. Counter to the computer side, they will roll a needed number MOST of the time. Can only roll a 5 to get back in play? They are rolling a 5, guaranteed. This is proven by simply doing manual rolls. The AI is incompetent and easy to beat when you plug in manual rolls, further proving they need loaded dice to win..Version: 6.3.8

Online gameplay is brokenThis is by far the best backgammon app I have played on the iPhone, kudos to the developer. I play against the computer and online, but always prefer to play real people. Unfortunately the online game has been broken by players cheating the game. When in a losing position, players have discovered they can simply “go offline” / disconnect from the internet / and rather than lose the game, there is a “connection lost” error which doesn’t penalise their rating in the same way. If they do it early enough in a game there is no change to either players’ rating. This would be easy to fix - the party that “loses connection” should be penalised as if they had lost a game to backgammon. They would learn to keep playing and be honest very quickly. Unfortunately this is so prevalent now, it is almost pointless to play online games. Kudos to the few remaining players who have a sense of honour. To the Developer - please fix this! You have a great game otherwise..Version: 6.3.8

Okay, but cheatsThe game cheats, and is aware of upcoming dice, using this to its advantage. I have calculated, across a sample of games large enough for p<0.05 that for 1/6 probability outcomes, the computer gets such an outcome 1/2 of the time. Conversely the human player gets the same 1/6 probability 1/6 of the time. You can easily this for yourself by playing first with automatic rolls, and then using manual rolls from your own dice or an external RNG, or by resetting the "next roll number" in Settings. You will then find that the computer fails to get those incredibly lucky rolls that land so often on your blots. It's a shame as whilst the game improves your play to a point, it encourages a very conservative risk-averse style of play, utterly unsuited to real world opponents who, of course, don't have the benefit of knowing upcoming rolls. The developer's various claims about "fixing" do not address the fact that the game can see future dice rolls. None of the developer's supposed proofs address the possibility that the computer is aware of the upcoming rolls of its opponent, and uses this to predict play and thus win. The irony is that if you play unpredictably by making mistakes, you're more likely to win. Don't waste your money. And don't pay too much heed to the supposed expert players leaving positive reviews..Version: 6.0.2

FailEven though you write that the computer doesn't know the coming dice rolls, it still plays as if it does. It would never raise if the overall dice roll is against him. I've even had computer decline my raise in mid game. How does it calculate?.Version: 2.5.3

This game cheats 100%The biggest issue with this game is the dice roll. It is definitely not randomly generated as claimed. I have been playing at expert level over the past year and have noted on certain plays the identical dice roll is always generated. It is so obvious now that I can predict most dice rolls. Despite this cheating I still give the game a run for its money. It is a shame because in comparison with other bg games, this one has a nice Interface. However, it had come to the point now to cease playing a game that cheats..Version: 3.0.2

Slimier than a lawyer.I have never before been subject to such a ripoff. The only good thing is the auto finish feature, just start a game and hit auto finish and watch the idiot AI cheat amongst itself. The developers are blatantly lying when they say the computer does not know what the next dice rolls are. Very very upset. It's time the App Store changed its policy and allowed seven days trial of any App and only charged you if you did not delete it at the end of that seven days..Version: 2.5.3

The undo??I move my final piece into position to start rolling off the board, change my mind and hit undo....suddenly I’m 2 moves back from My pieces all onside, cpu hits my exposed guy, I can’t roll back into play...cpu gets +3pc all in and off loading before I get off the bar....but wait, I was WINNING and just wanted to correct positioning within.....and I lose. That happened 2 times in 5 games. F-ing joke..Version: 6.3.6

The computer cheatsLike a lot of other reviews, the game is very similar to actual backgammon with the exception that the computer definitely, unequivocally rolls better numbers than the player. The more games you win against the computer, the more the computer traps the user into a lose-lose cycle. It’s infuriating and reason enough to quit using this app completely. The engineers need to STOP ignoring the users who keep complaining about this. We cannot ALL be wrong. Start listening to complains and create a product worthy of praise..Version: 6.1

BackgammonI'm not a pro player. But the computer seems to get a lot of perfect rolls at the correct time..Version: 5.3.4

Too EasyDon't mind winning all the time, but when the game app. makes such dumb moves at times, can be annoying..Version: 2.4

Not for iPadSays it's iPad compatible but it's just the zoomed in iPhone version. Had I known I would have opted for the HD version. Why should "HD" be $3 more, anyway?.Version: 5.3.4

Fun but CruelThe gameplay and interface are excellent. For me, the best backgammon interface in the store. However, the settings are confusing and poorly worded, and it took a while to figure out what would work best for me. Many users have complained about the random rolls the computer gives itself and the player. I have to agree, no matter how the developer substantiates the algorithm. In any mode from medium or higher, rolls become frustrating. Sometimes you get on a realistic streak, but often you’ll get many poor rolls in a row. So if you want to have fun playing backgammon, set this to the easy mode, otherwise it might become frustrating..Version: 6.1

Had enoughThe only saving grace of this game is the online play feature as I am sick to death of the AI cheating on the expert level. It's not even subtle. Wish I'd read other reviews prior to purchasing Developers, please listen to the many comments that are unimpressed with the way the computer fixes the dice. Shame because the game has potential but the computer gameplay is inexcusable.Version: 2.5.3

Backgammon NJI've played a lot of computers but this one takes the cake for playing one sided. Wish I could give it a -5!!.Version: 5.2

Doesn't cheat???Maybe you've got some convoluted way of 'proving' this game doesn't cheat in expert mode, but what about the lower levels. The number of times I've had this thing on the ropes, then a series of extremely unfortunate throws for me followed by incredibly accurate dice throws by the CPU and I go down like a hooker on Hugh Grant. It's happened too many times to be just bad luck. It doesn't cheat, you say? Prove it with the lower skill levels also!.Version: 0

(Sigh) more dice manipulationWas hoping this one would be different…no. Last game - I’m on the bar, 3 points covered, 3 open. 50/50 odds right? I missed SIX TIMES in row. Six! As an experiment, I accepted the double and kept re-doubling until the points maxed out at 64 - then the dice went totally bonkers. Computer got doubles FOUR times in a row when bearing off. And somehow, magically, when I had 2 & 3 chances to hit an open piece - miss! Every one. Not surprisingly, that game ended in a backgammon. Nothing to do with player skill, pure probability and the higher the stakes, the higher the cheat. So the AI side is a joke, I’ll just look to play other players online. I hope that isn’t rigged also with fake bot players..Version: 6.3.8

Dice are loadedWhen playing at hard level, the dice are loaded. To prove this, I did 115k. And 20k rolls on auto finish (therefore, the computer plays against it self) when analyzing rolls, the stats for doubles or entering from the bar is consistently ~3% higher for ALL stats for the computer vs. player. Statistically, it’s almost like I’ve played head or tails and got 50 heads in a row… possible, but highly doubtful. Loading the dice does not teach you to play properly.Version: 6.3.8

Game cheats; developer won’t reply! The game cheats, and the developer will not provide a response, as they have to others… This is because they have no answer… QUESTION FOR DEVELOPER: Auto bear-off sometimes declines to take the greedy move even when it is safe to do so. Yet, I have never lost a game because of this, not once! How is this possible, unless the game already knows I have won or lost?.Version: 6.3.8

CheatingThis application is a total cheat. The computer always gets the best combination of dices. The human player does not have any chance at all. You can play until the morning, still waiting to get something fair but the computer will get 4 6's or 4 5's, whatever necessary. I will remove it soon..Version: 0

Nothing good to say don't waste moneyAt first i thought this game played hard but fair but as soon as you go to expert level every roll favors the AI in terms of bearing of, covering single pieces, blocking markers return to board, forcing moves leaving single pieces open, then getting exactly the right roll to take them off. So disappointing this is not just about great gameplay. The positive reviews can only have been written by vendors own people or someone without knowledge and experience with BG. This APP is completely misrepresented in its description. This is the first time I feel I have been ripped-off completely in the AppStore..Version: 2.5.3

Inauthentic playThe computer makes moves that no human player would take. Also the "hints" it offers is the same - no reasonable player would ever make those moves. Computer also gets the perfect roll nearly every time while I get stuck with really bad ones. Especially infuriating when I ask for a hint, take the suggestion and then computer gets the exact roll to know me off. 1 star because it's a pretty looking app but just too unreal to be a legit game..Version: 6.0.2

Don’t waste your moneyDon’t waste your money - there is never a situation where the computer can’t play because it is blocked. This makes it impossible to play strategically. Don’t purchase!.Version: 6.3.8

Why separate appsI had already purchased BGNJ HD on a different device and when searching for backgammon I found this. A bit confused, I ended up paying again for something I already own. I have no recourse so 1 star for confusing branding and options..Version: 6.1

The dice, oh the diceOk. Raising difficulty setting just increases favourability of dice rolls to cpu. Opening moves, strategy etc. are the same regardless of difficulty setting. Purchased this to improve my game but the only thing I am learning is that cpus can have biased dice too. I am a statistician, so understand perception of probability etc..Version: 6.1

BackgammonThe dice throws are seldom random at hard level and have a bias towards the computer. The percentage throws where the computer has exactly the right numbers is over 80% as against the player where it can be as low as 20%. When one number is needed, statistically, the average number of throws would be 3, however, for the computer, this is below 2, but for the individual it is over 5. The dice throws do not have any level of randomness, they just seem loaded to the computer as the level gets "harder". Not very satisfactory. As such the game does not develop skills in playing. The computer often takes risks whereas an individual tends to be careful because the computer will normally get the right combination of numbers to take you out whereas you will usually have the wrong numbers! Has anyone added up the scores from the dice rolls for the two players? Similarly, have you noticed the number of times the computer gets doubles in a tight end game as against the number you receive?.Version: 6.3.8

Des dés pipésC'est évident les tirages sont pipés en faveur de l'ordi ne gaspillez pas d'argent pour ce jeu.Version: 5.0.2

Want to like but games are rigged.I really want to like this game but can not recommend it. Unlike the real world where the computer player responds to the moves made by a human player as best it can, in this app the computer player knows the players dice values at least several turns in advance. This means that it pretty much controls the entire game, unless you play at the ‘idiot’ level. It knows what your moves will be and has moved its pieces to the best places in anticipation of this. There seems to be the odd random throw once every so often, but beyond that, it is a really bad game..Version: 6.1

Poor interfaceFor £5 I was hoping for a lot better. The games themselves are fine, it's the way you move around the menus on the app, it's very clunky. I've been trying to get some turn based games going, (which is not easy) and you're forever having to navigate menus. Other turn based games are a lot more intuitive. And the notifications don't seem to work. Poor for a paid app..Version: 6.0.2

Computer Definitely CheatsLove the ability to play with other friends who have this app. Like many of the other reviews of this game I too believe the computer cheats. Playing on Hard and the computer will get all the exact rolls needed to win after a double is accepted. Last game I played I was up 50 pips to 115 pips. Offered a double to close out the game quicker. In 5 moves by the computer including 3 straight doubles, it managed to knock out one of my pips and fill in its home. I lost with the computer getting a gammon..Version: 6.3.8

Looks nice - Totally unfairThere is no way that this game is not skewed towards the AI. The AI gets to start most of the time and gets always the perfect rolls and a unrealistic number of doubles, it is so frustrating. Why would someone make a game like that and insist on that it is fair? No Way is it fair. Can someone please make a fair Backgammon game? Is it so difficult? Luckily I only paid $ 4.99. I guess you get what you pay for. So now I am getting a response from the developer who again claims the game is fair! Come on! Is this guy reading the reviews? There is absolutely no way this game is fair. The AI knows every move and controls every roll. Once in a while it let's you win or no one would play it anymore. Mr. Hu, I love the layout, the sounds and all that but, could you please make it a fair game?.Version: 6.0.2

Promotes dull playI’ve had this app for many years and play it regularly. It does have a ludicrously uncanny knack for getting the most unlikely and extremely lucky (...?...) rolls. Sadly this just promotes dull, predictable play. It cheats. Don’t be sucked in by the developers claims to be able to provide proof that the rolls are random. Sort your algorithms out developers..Version: 6.1

The 'computer opponent' receives a disproportionate number of double throwsI really enjoyed playing this game - I play against the computer at the. I moved to the ‘hard’ level quickly. I started to get the impression that the 'computer' opponent was getting a disproportionate share of the 'double throws'. So I tested it. I recorded the double throws in 54 games. The computer opponent got 300 double throws, and I got 221. ie the computer receives on average 35% more double throws. The computer opponent got more double throws than me in 34 games, and I got more double throws than the opponent in only 16 games (it was the same for 4 games). I was under the impression that when you played through the levels that the opponents play became more ‘sophisticated’. I felt that I had been playing in a similar way (similar moves and exposures as the opponent), but winning about 1 out of 3 games (on average). Now I realise that the degrees of difficulty though the levels are controlled by controlling the ‘chance’ aspect of the game, rather than building in more sophisticated plays. I was looking for the challenge of more sophisticated play, rather than playing from a disadvantaged position. It’s ruined my enjoyment ☹ I’m now going to look for another backgammon game. Very disappointing. The auto complete function also isn’t wonderful. I use it to move quickly through sections of the game, eg when I’m blocked out. The computer will decide to resign me, when I wouldn’t decide that at all, but it’s too late. Auto finish should do just that – finish the game through the throwing of dice and making player moves..Version: 4.0

Dice not randomEasy levels are ok but at the higher levels there is no way the dice are random. Only approach is a totally defensive game. Tedious..Version: 6.2.2

Real shame about the non-random diceWhen you go back to play a normal game of backgammon you realise how much you've dumbed down after playing this one too long. Strategy is often futile in this app as the dice are ALWAYS in favour of computer - It's a real shame about the dice as there is no way the amount of times that it rolls the EXACT combination required in the computers favour that the rolls aren't factoring in the position of the pips. It makes the game uninteresting when you know it's not a random throw of the dice Not sure why the developer isn't listening RANDOM DICE pretty pretty PLEASE.Version: 2.4.2

Good but “still”cheatsUpdate, however random you say this game is, the fact remains that if one of my men is taken off it usually takes several shakes to get back on, if the opponent is taken off it always gets straight back on again. I have played almost daily for months. You say that the analysis program is proof that it’s fair. You quite obviously don’t know as much as you think you do about either the analysis program or the game itself. I agree with beef major, I also have played backgammon for over thirty years, and I do know that in the real game there is luck involved. Here's the deal, If one of my men is taken off, it can take several shakes to get back on, if the opponent is taken of it gets back on immediately, I'm not complaining though, I do understand that every good thing in life has its niggles, I mean I like swimming, but I can't stand getting so wet, and it happens every time, just makes me angry. I digress, sorry. Moving men is good, although not as slick as igammon app, I used that for the last five years but the developer hasn't updated it to latest iOS (that one cheated like a spoiled child too) So, this game is very good, and yes can buy the analysis package for like £2.99 but......who would really do that. God bless you all..Version: 6.0.2

BackgammonVery nice playing game, but cheats like crazy. Use manual dice throws..Version: 3.0.2
