I’ve found that never accepting a doubling throws this scheme off. But yeah, I need convincing that the game doesn’t look at future rolls to keep its rating magically consistent. ✓ Best backgammon app on an iPhoneI have played a large number of the other BG apps, they either cheat to win or play weak hands, this one feels like a competent real opponent. Easily the best mobile BG game I have tried - recommend without hesitation if you are looking for a paid BG app. After downloading, the first few games made me suspicious of the dice rolls, but having played a bit more, I have also had long runs of good dice, and the AI has had some very bad luck - I am convinced that the dice are fair..Version: 6.0.2
✓ Rock Solid. Thanks for manual dice mode...Used to be a fan - not so much anymore. Users' experience is that the game cheats and developers response is that users are not as good as they think. WRONG. Developer ignores the subjective user experience, which is just bad business. Overall I like the game and have played thousands of games. I think the flaw in AI design is the 4 levels: easy, medium, hard, expert. The only way to pragmatically make these levels appear to act progressively more advanced is to choke or open the competitive advantage granted to the computer (in my opinion). Regardless, the end result is well described by hundreds of users and that is a bias that the game feels as if it has an unrealistic advantage. This can get tiresome. NOTE computer rolls 7s to enter board from bar like crazy. To compete you should avoid being uncovered on 7. The developer should spend some energy trying to address this common user observation because just as he asserts that his game does not cheat, I would like to assert that all of the users' experiences cannot be dismissed either. So I believe there is room for improvement - but I also imagine it would be a tremendously difficult programming problem to solve..Version: 6.1

It shows a list of all the moves in a game and the error level. Customer support has been great. The game interface has improved a lot in the years since I first got this. I love the analysis list. I do have a request? Can you add a 2 ply mode? I think phones are fast enough now. I have been playing another 2 ply game and I like this interface much better. ✓ Best backgammon game availableThe graphics aren’t as snazzy nor are the sound effects as crisp as some other BG games but there is no equal to the uniquely realistic gameplay in BGNJ. The AI is superb, the gameplay is fair. Any reports of “rigging of the dice” is a delusion in the mind of the player. Tutor modes and game analysis allow you to see your errors and really improve your game. Another highlight, the “league” of players is small but highly skilled and devoted. Best of all there is no constant “buy in” for chips or coins. You buy the game once and that’s it. The rest is playing and improving your ER. There is a crashing issue that seems to be a function of Game Center, so says the developer. It’s still the best game out there. One suggestion: open up the microphone. Then players could talk to each other in real time. Would save typing in the chat window and would make the game very social..Version: 6.1

I tried a few others and they were all rather lame-brained compared to this one. You get a wealth of stats on your playing, and in just a few days by asking for the odd hint and watching what the app does with certain spins, I have increased my rating from 1200 to 1600 and fought my away back to more than 50% wins at the Hard level. I can't really imagine how this game could be improved. Think it cheats on the initial rolls? There's an option to swap the first rolls with you. The AI is superb, and the different difficulty ratings are well spaced. Those who say it cheats are plainly mistaken. Rather, it has a good strategy engine. If it truly was playing with advance knowledge of the dice rolls it would sometime make moves that seem silly in order to set itself up for future rolls. This never happens. It just plays so well it can make good use of whatever rolls it gets. I’ve used this app and then deleted it and then came back to it,mostly because of a few smaller things that’d make this really worth the money: Wish the Animation of checkers was smoother in regular play, pretty abrupt movements right now. the auto finish I wish it could go slower and respect the same animation so you can actually see how the game finishes (hard to tell what each roll is) In multiplayer chat, you should be able to send a message after your turn. ✓ CheatNot sure how the computer does it. Has an amazing way of rolling the exact dice it needs to smash me. Then giving me amazing dice when I can't use them to keep the dice statistics semi even. This occurs even when you employ wildly unique usernames. The fact is the game is merely ok (3 star at most). ✓ Great game for real BG players.This is a terrific game. The whining about "fixed" rolls is silly. Read the developer's notes. You can see the computer isn't looking ahead. You can even manually enter in your own dice rolls and watch the computer beat you. It's just a VERY SMART PLAYER on expert level. It doesn't make mistakes. It plays best plays given every roll and board position (on expert level). But if you want to become better, play this game. You can see hints for optimal play. ✓ Suspicious diceThe computer consistently rolls 5s (or other doubles) 95% of the time it uses the doubling cube on hard mode. The higher skill levels just give the computer better rolls. Either way, its still a fun & solid practice game.Version: 3.0.2

Except for, I believe, when it doubles: it seems that at these times the AI sometimes peeks ahead and knows how good your next roll will be. Not sure though. There is an option where you can roll your own dice on your kitchen table, then plug the numbers into the app - as a way to prove the app doesn’t cheat. In any case I play on Medium for a challenging game with the CPU! Loads of options. The most solid backgammon app at the store. Recommended! Still… by far, the best backgammon simulation out there. Only observation is that the app is highly conservative with doubling decisions which I take advantage of.
