✓ Fair-maybe was harshAdded- have played for another 2 days on and off with no issues maybe it was just a one of I upgraded my rating a little more tweaking to get it up to date would have earned the last star having fun... Never played before, was enjoying it, the dungeons are rather large, it plays a lot like the originals, save save save then re save don't trust the save state lost about 2 hours of game play which for classics is normal I remember saves not working all the time back in the day so this keeps that real classic vibe. Don't enter a dungeon unless you are gonna play it through and use the games built in save along with the save state and all should be fine I did pay the 2.79 which was a bit annoying cause I only paid to get rid of the ads when I save which I feel was the down fall never had any issues when I had to watch the ad to the save.Version: 3.0.2

✓ Works great, except it won't save when bad internetEdit: as of 2018, the game is fine, except for if one doesn't have internet connection, saving will not work and the game will freeze. I'm glad I edited my review. I'd love for an offline mode saving, like on Steam. Great game. Original review from 2017: I love Phantasy Star 2, but as of June 2017, the app store's version will regulary lose your hard-earned saved game data. I'll change my review soon as an update comes. It is still frustrating that every time I want to save I have to use the save-state function because the in-game save doesn’t work. ✓ Where Is PS 1?I have played all of the Phantasy Star games,and I LOVE them! Phantasy star was the game that got me into video games in first place. These are great, but please tell me, where can I get the first one? It was the first video game I ever beat, and I would LOVE to play it again. ✓ Read this for SAVE option fix!This has been the best download for me during quarantine and great to relive the best of all RPG games... I completed IV and III and currently working on II. For anyone with issues on saving for PSII the trick is to save the game in the data center in the actual video game, and NOT use the top right hand save button that the app gives you... I was using the top right button at first which makes you wait the 30 seconds every time you do so and midway through the game it would freeze and stop working and reboot. I was devastated thinking I couldn’t continue this complex game without save but I tested and went to a data center in the actual game located in the town (the logo outside the building looks almost like a division sign with dot and lines)... save in the slot there and then once you exit and restart the game you can access it that way by clicking start when PSII comes up. IT WORKS and is better and faster than the app button which is faulty anyway. And when you are further into PSII and have Shir the thief steal the visaphone from the headquarters in Paseo once she is at level 10, this device lets you save ANYWHERE and at any point in the game and yes, it works!! You can thank me later!! Enjoy your playing! This app has brought back so many great memories of the late 80s and early 90s for me. Totally worth it for free but I would’ve paid..Version: 4.1.0
✓ Neisword problemI’ve been playing this game for a year and I have to say that I love this game. The only problem is that when I get to the last stage, whenever I use the neisword, the game freezes and I can’t do anything except for exiting out of it. It’s nothing serious I just want this glitch to end. If you could please fix this glitch I would be really appreciate it..Version: 4.0.3
✓ Great ports!Phantasy Star III starts now, so...great! And the folks complaining about adds? How else are game devs gonna make money to keep making games? To expect to play a FULL game for COMPLETELY FREE is kinda unrealistic, $1.99 for add free premium is really cheap, console games are $10-$60 a piece, and back in the day could be up to $80! So what’s with all the 1 Star reviews? I mean...really? Anyway, great ports SEGA, all Phantasy Star games included run great! Now...where’s Phantasy Star 1? For example, if you are playing offline and catch signal, you’re no longer able to save during that session and the game restarts. ✓ AwesomeI’ve played this game so many times. Initially on Sega Mastersystem, next on my PC and now on my IPhone. This is such a fun game. I immediately paid the $2 to get rid of the ads and it’s been great fun since. To everyone nagging about ads, this game was $50-60 when it came out. Now it’s free with ads or you pay $2, so zip it! ✓ Great blast from the past!It's hard to believe this game came out in 1989! Back then it was the largest cartridge game ever but memory was still a limitation so it came with a 100 page manual with maps, hints, descriptions of weapons, techniques, etc. The iOS port is pretty much an exact replica so I recommend finding that info on the web (unless you like frustration!) One cool addition is the cloud save feature which literally lets you save your game anywhere! I even saved the game during the closing credits! It's a good thing too as the regular 'data save' feature quit working about halfway through. The most annoying thing was the control buttons blocking large portions of the screen. I didn't find out until my last day playing that you could adjust the opacity! Oh well... Another bug I found: whenever I tried to use the Neisword to return to Lutz, the game froze and I had to exit and restart from my last save. (I am on an iPad with 10.3.3). I just used Hinas to get back so it wasn't a big deal. Five stars to Sega for allowing me to relive a small portion of my youth! One more thing, I paid to remove the ads and there was only one Sega ad that would pop up when you first start the game. Not as annoying as the reviews led me to believe..Version: 3.1.1
✓ Good game but why can’t I play musicI really enjoy the game but to be honest the sounds and music are super repetitive. If I try to use any other audio program in the background (Pandora, iTunes, Audible) it cuts out once I move back into the game. ✓ Great games, not so great platformFirst, Phantasy Star is a great series. I was a Sega kid back when these came out and loved them. Having on the phone is terrific. You can’t go wrong playing these games if you’re a fan of rpgs. The sci-fi/sci-fantasy art direction, characters and story are great and a refreshing change from standard fantasy and as a kid, really set my imagination running! But! The Sega Forever platform isn’t great. Requiring online for saving is not ideal, local saves please! No matter how I configure the virtual dpad, I often end up zigzagging like a distracted toddler. Also, ads. Many of them. I didn’t mind paying to remove them, because the games themselves are worth it, but before I did, they seemed pretty intrusive. Still, the fee wasn’t obnoxious. My biggest wish to make this great series complete would be to have Phantasy Star 1 on here. Please! Complete the series! Complete the series! Complete the series!.Version: 4.1.3

Seems to have added emulator functions like save anywhere, however if it disconnects from the server and you try to save it will freeze and you'll lose all progress from your last save. ✓ Better, don't trust old reviewsI previously rated one star due to how bad the port was, but SEGA still persevered and kept updating the game, now it's way better, also with PSIII and PSIV. There are still some performance issues, like some slight slowdowns here and there, but it's miles better from what it was at launch. ✓ My Frist JRPG.I remember that I played PS2 on my friend's Mega Drive. His father did a lot of international travel and bought it for him. Sure, it was in Japanese, but I didn't care. I never saw anything like it before; I fell in love with it. A few years later, I brought a Genisis from my friend, and wouldn't you know, he threw in PS2. I played it non-stop for years to level everyone up. When I saw this was available for iPhone and Ipad, I had to get it. It is precisely how I remember it being I'm falling in love with PS2 all over again. Thank you to the developers. Please work on the Segs Ages remake of PS1 and 2..Version: 4.1.3
✓ Excellent port!This review is for the old-skool Genesis/RPG players. If you're like me and feel PS2 was a genre-defining game and is still one of the best RPGs of all time, don't hesitate. Get this now. Details: Stability: 10/10. I'm currently on the Climatrol stage of the game and the app is rock-solid. No crashes yet of any type. Graphics: 10/10. Graphics look like an exact port of the Genesis game. Sound: 8.5/10. What made the Genesis a console leader in its day was its superior sound. The music in this port of PS2 is very close to the original but is not exact for certain tunes (some notes have been dropped out of the score = less channels on the ipod?) Very occasionally the music skips, and to my memory it sounds a little more 'digital' for certain tunes, but overall this is worth buying for the retro music alone. Gameplay: 10/10. There were perhaps two instances so far where I experienced game slowdown on my gen2 ipod. There is built-in functionality that automatically saves the game state whenever you power off your device or toggle out of the app, so you no longer have to visit data memory to save the game. When you come back into the game, you're prompted to continue from the virtually-saved game state or revert to a manual save. Otherwise this game is like having the Genesis version in your pocket, which for me is very valuable. I hope to see Sega porting many more games of this quality from the Genesis to the ipod, and bravo for the effort! (Phantasy Star III and IV, Sword of Vermilion, Beyond Oasis, Thunder Forces?).Version: 0

✓ Black screen every minute or two after updateI bought this title several years ago and it worked flawlessly. Sometime in the past year or so they updated the game giving it cloud saving. Ever since that update, I have extremely frequent black screen issues. If I press the home button on my iPhone 7 Plus it goes right back to where I left off, but with this happening every minute or two it’s essentially broken. ✓ GreatI think many people having issues are just dopes - I have no issues at all, works perfect. The sound quality of the emulation isn’t great - that’s really the only complain. If you don’t like ads then buy the game - pretty simple solution - this isn’t a free to play, it’s a port of a Genesis game. Also the control options are good - and you can customize them, I’ve had zero performance issues, and there are no issues with iOS 12, including betas. Overall this is a great game and hopefully Sega releases the rest of the series AND even more importantly I hope they create a new classic Phantasy Star game - not that garbage Universe stuff - but a proper PS5, Octopath has proven there’s a big market for these games still..Version: 3.2.2
