✓ Want the developers to see this...This game oozes quality and is definitely worthy of your money. But I want to echo the comments of a few others. The developers need to create a mode where time is not a factor. Like others I want to be able to soak in the environment and enjoy a leisurely game. I don't want or need to be pushed and I really don't care about achievements. Let those of us that want to enjoy your creation without pressures. It I wanted a twitch game I would download a shooter. 5 stars will be given when this mode is enabled..Version: 1.0
✓ FrustratingLooks great, plays badly. The level designs feel sloppy, as if someone who doesn't actually play games sketched the levels on a napkin, before handing them off to the 3D artists. I can almost hear this person's enthusiasm for the project: "A treacherous drop, onto a tiny rail?? Ooh, that will make a good challenge!! Gamers LOVE that sort of thing." One level in particular (Magma #8) hovers above a giant toilet bowl filled with lava. You will undoubtedly slip and fall into the toilet, dozens of times, due to the bouncy physics, skittish controls, unresponsive boost pads, and tiny platforms that you must traverse. After you slip, you will bounce helplessly for many seconds, before finally, mercifully colliding with the deadly lava. Or, you might get stuck on the way down, lodged on some crevice or behind a gear, which happened to me more than a few times. By default, you have a time limit. This feels acceptable on the simplest levels. Before long, the timer becomes a meaningless torturer, demanding the impossible, and robbing you of fun. Unless you invest days of your life in this game, will never beat the toilet bowl level within the time limit. It's just ridiculous. Thankfully, you can switch to "easy" mode, and disable the timer..Version: 1.0

✓ Boring, weak controls, unoriginalThough visually stunning, the gameplay of Gears becomes repetitive by the 3rd level. There have been many "roll ball through 3D maze" type games in the past, but Gears adds nothing to the genre. The touch controls - having to constantly hold your finger over the ball makes it almost impossible to see your ball and the surrounding obstacles. "Flicking" the ball will almost always result in it getting away from you. Overall, it's clear that this development studio has put more time and money into building a pretty game with fancy effects than focusing on actual gameplay..Version: 1.1
✓ Well made but....This is a game about control. Either by sliding precariously with your finger or by tilt which is incredibly difficult. The game freezes momentarily whilst your sliding your finger and then catches up and mistakes your movement for a fast flick which makes the sphere shoot off and then you have to restart because the levels are timed. Considering this is a game about control this is a major and very frustrating bug that needs fixing quite quickly..Version: 1.0

✓ YawnArbitrary time limits are a crutch for game developers who have a deficit of good ideas. take a look at Dark Nebula or Enigmo - time bonus=good, time limit=bad... especially when you are in the funnel when the time runs out. anything which makes a game just stop mid-stream, or causes you to constantly hit the restart option is just stupid game design. stupid, lazy game design from people who have nothing new or original to bring to gaming. it detracts from the enjoyment of the beautiful environments. it breaks the flow... a game like this should cause you to be lost in the fantastic world, and this game just keeps knocking you on the head. these guys had a recipie for a perfect cake, and then they added gravel to the mix..Version: 1.0

✓ Laughable (At Best)Don't let the flashy graphics fool you: Gears is a waste of your money, when it comes right down to it. Featuring a high crash rate and a very poor control system (tilt mode lacks the sensitivity and response time that a tilt mode demands and swipe mode is clunky and nowhere near fine-tuned enough to warrant its inclusion). Add to this the fact that the game lacks achievements and Gears is exposed as a poor façade for an iPod game that is by no means worth even the meager dollar it costs to purchase it. If you manage to run the game long enough to play a level or two, you'll soon see what I mean. A word to Crescent Moon: Perhaps consider a new line of work? The only way I can enjoy this game is by turning the game difficulty to the easiest setting to remove the time limit. The time limit aspect of this game is a total buzz-kill. There's no audio cue or anything, you'll be enjoying yourself, thinking you're doing well on a stage, and then you just explode. I think the developers would have been better off reducing your points to -zero- once this time limit has expired, rather than halting the gameplay and the player's enjoyment so abruptly..Version: 1.0

✓ Magma Level 9 glitched, no supportGears was once an excellent game, but the developers unfortunately seem to have abandoned this app as they fail to keep up with iOS updates. Magma Caverns level 9 is impassible now as the graphics that contain tracks and solid surfaces will not load, rendering the level impassible as only as the starting platform and the magma kill zones. Thus, no further progression in the game is possible. I still give two stars since all preceding levels seem to work, which is roughly two-thirds of the game, but it is horribly frustrating that I'm stymied in the middle of the game where it worked on my older devices. I attempted to contact Crescent Moon Games via their website, but the only support that appears to be available depends on an "FAQ" section that is actually a horribly-spammed blog with thousands of posts dating back to January 2013. If anyone from CMG can read this, please fix Gears, it was such a good game! If you are looking to buy, be aware that if you encounter the same problem, you're only getting two-thirds of the game until and if the devs ever fix this..Version: 1.4

✓ More frustrating than it should be.The controls for the ball aren't that great and can be awful at times. This is not a problem in the early stages but as the games continues, you'll find that most of the game difficulty comes from the awful controls and not the obstacles. There ate two methods of controlling the ball but you can't switch between them inside the stage, only at the beginning. There are certain sections of the game that lend themselves to a change in controls and it's a shame we can't switch. ✓ Good Execution, Needs workIt's always nice to see a good ball roller be released for iDevices. For some reason or another, I cannot have enough of these games. This execution of the genre, while exceptional, has a few flaws I'd like to point out. First, the timer. Ball Rollers and timers don't go together all that well. I hate feeling pushed from behind when I play a game. I like it more when I can enjoy the game at a slow pace, taking my time to solve the puzzles and enjoy the environment. While there are players who love a challenge and for whom the timer is the perfect way to get one, I think you should limit it to offering a medal or something if you finish the level within the time limit and not force the timer upon everyone. Secondly, I think having the environment tilt as you tilt the device is one of the worst additions to this genre. Sure, it looks nice and is a graphical feat, however it is distracting and quite annoying after an half of hour or so of playing. I definitely think this shold be toggleable. ✓ DisappointedPerhaps it is my utter love for last weeks 'Game Of The Week' that gave me unrealistic expectations for this one. I thought it would be beautiful environments, immersive gameplay and the like. Instead it was a Monkeyball clone that is just as impossible to play. Here are the flaws on this game's controls: Tilt isn't suited to the iPad on a game like this so I stuck with swipe. The issue with that is your finger can cover the ball and the direction you need to move in. There's not enough feedback on your input so the ball feels either leaden or too light. ✓ I really want to like this...But the maneuverability of this game needs to be smoother. The swipes, no matter the speed setting, send the ball tumbling off the platform - and I'm playing on Easy. It's really frustrating, especially running on a 4th Gen Touch, where the graphics are crisp, clean and the music is synonymous with gameplay. It's a unique platformer with great potential no doubt; but for this to be five stars, it needs a major control update. (The tilt doesn't work at all, despite several attempts at re-calibrating. I find swiping works best when you hold your finger down). Please devs, fix this issue and you'll have a Top 5 app no doubt. Levels often feel lost in themselves and I tend to find myself clueless on where to go. There's just not enough guidance and there should be more variance in the worlds, there's only three and they're not that different. ✓ Bad controlsIt's too bad because it is a good looking game. The controls are imprecise, taking all the fun out of it. The controls are inconsistent as well. Sometimes it seems that ball control is pretty good, and then it seems to take off out of control as if the game is already starting fragmentation. It is definitely no Dark Nebula and doesn't really compare to any upper end labyrinth game. If they can't get the ball control worked out, it's really not worth playing. Again, it's too bad. ✓ Needs to return to earlier versionsI got this when it first came out and got through several worlds, it was a fantastic game with stunning graphics and near perfect control(in swipe mode). However my iPhone 4 broke a few weeks after and had to be reset so progress was erased, I re-installed it along with my other apps but didn't go on again today only to find it been ruined! The controls on the first 4 lvls were fine but once I got past those the game became almost unplayable! The lag caused the ball to jerk about wildly, flying off in random directions and sometimes without me even touching the screen. I altered the graphics to their optimised setting, closed all other apps and turned off wifi/3G, I even turned off the music which helped until you get to the larger lvls in magma world where there's lots of activity, after that point the game is unplayable! Earlier versions didn't suffer from these issues to the same degree so something needs sorting - until then it's a broken unplayable game.Version: 1.1.1

✓ Pretty averageI thought this game looked promising and it's still not bad for a quick play bit frankly the controls are kind of annoying and the levels are usually very easy with the occasional frustrating part which has the tendency to make you just turn it off. Also the graphics are a little disappointing considering the reviews, it looks like a ps1 port with the strangely used polygon budget and the abundant use of coloured lighting. Good: idea, sounds, looks better than most games, has replay value. Bad: controls, some level design, feels like an old dated port. 3/5.Version: 1.0
✓ Not another timed game...I'm leaving this app on my iPhone in hopes of an exceptional update. I find problems with the control of the ball, how the ball reacts to the environment (always rolls or bounces in a direction that defies physics), the freezes, crashes, bugs, and glitches. I love the graphics, the complexity of the mazes, and it surprisingly has a decent plot line. The biggest problem I have with this game is that infernal timer. Too many times have I gotten to the end of the level only to restart because I was 1/2 a second too late. I have found myself resorting to using shortcuts. (Something I'm not proud of) I actually managed to beat 4 levels in a row, each under 30 seconds just by flicking my finger across the screen and hoping for the best. That is what this game has been demoted to for me. I don't even try to navigate the maze... Takes to long. Please fix these issues. ✓ I delightedly spent DAYS playing this on my original iPad BUT......it was bought, originally, as a one time purchase. The sale and subsequent “subscription revenue model” for game club are a deal breaker for me. Not because I object to subscribing, outright, but because of the sense of a broken promise. Once sold as an indefinite license, it should remain an indefinite license. I have a budget for subscriptions and I’m not spending that budget on anything that breaks a promise. Because ... why would I? The number one issue with subscription models is trust, and if the trust is already broken from the outset, that’s a problem. There are ways to rework this such that purchasers of the original game aren’t forced into the subscription. It’s implementable in the AppStore, and I’ve seen it work. This then constitutes an unforced error on Game Club’s part, having purchased it from the former developer..Version: 1.5.34
