Most iPhone games one gets bored of after a while, and can certainly play for no more than 10 minutes at a time. However this one was genuinely enjoyable, and kept you thinking. ✓ Fun PuzzlerI am a fan of the Fire Maple games. Lost City benefits from the forethought that went into making the puzzles fit in with the story and the environments. Solving puzzles by changing seasons is clever, and so are many of the puzzles themselves, which are at a medium level of difficulty (just hard enough to make you think, but far from exasperating). This game, like all of Fire Maple’s games, is a welcome relief from the gloomy, creepy settings and atmosphere in most of the games in this genre. The music is pleasant and the visuals are colorful, which makes for a stress-free puzzle-solving experience. The journal and the map are useful features, as well. Overall, this is a nice, calm way to spend a few hours, and scratch that puzzling itch..Version: 1.13

✓ 8 bit nostalgiaI've worked for various video game companies/magazines so this game was a bit if a nostalgia trip. What I like about the iPhone is that we are able relive the 8bit days without being bored. This adventure game is much like the days of old but with better graphics. I finished the game in 2 days and I'm now looking for more. The only improvements I would have made was the game logic of the rope. And the map should have changed seasons also..Version: 1.01

There's also a handy hint system and helpful map, great for adventure newbies! Not much of a story, instead it has more of a meditative puzzle feel. Graphics are clear. Sound effects are crisp and effective. If you love to quietly explore and solve puzzles at your own pace or just getting started in adventuring then Lost City is a great start!.Version: 1.03

✓ The best adventure game by farThis game was our first adventure game and we haven't found another to get near it. In other games there are obvious hints and routes to follow in a set order - follow the order and the game unfolds. With The Lost City, you must wander around and collect clues and ideas about the place which then become obvious as you do other things. This means you need to use your memory and grey matter to unlock the puzzles. There is a map to guide you round which only builds as you enter new screens. We had trouble getting past the first three screens but persevere and the way the game works becomes clear .... And that is only the beginning!! Please make another game like this as soon as possible. This truly is the benchmark..Version: 1.03

✓ Nicely Polished Exploration-Based PuzzlerThis puzzle-adventure is fantastic; reminiscent of Myst, but composed of simpler puzzles, it requires simple logic (and a bit of backtracking). Great again is the transformation aspect that lets you change the seasons to solve puzzles and explore areas that you may at first think to be off limits. While that may sound vague, I'm really just trying not to spoil anything for you. Settings and soundtrack are tranquil and meld well, and the actual game interactions demonstrate how well a game genre that used to be considered "point and click" adventure works in a touchscreen interface - especially the way this developer has done it. ✓ Good fun for a few hoursI played Grisly Manor, enjoyed that so bought this and it was just as good. The game is a lot bigger, a little bit harder and I had to cheat a couple of times to work out what to do with the machete. Near the end, there is a clue that does not make much sense. It is the *spoiler* flower box part. The flowers with 1 leaf should be colored red, the flowers with 2 leaves should be colored blue, and the flowers with 3 leaves should be colored green. So clockwise from top left, it should be red green blue red blue green. I still don't understand how it works but it does. I hope the clue is made clearer on a later version. Also it would be nice if you could click on the map and teleport to that location. It gets a bit tedious try to find everything towards the end. So overall, good fun, worth getting for 69p if you like puzzle games..Version: 1.01

It’s the painted Easter egg on first page and torn number on the facing page. I thought it looked familiar but I could never find it in the game. Later I realized it’s from another Maple Fire game, Grisley Manor I think. I replayed the game and did not have those pages in my journal second time. ✓ Very Nice!Very well done game, pleasant to do, no time limits, no tedious hidden pictures, no frightening or violent elements, just wandering around solving a wide variety of puzzles in keeping with a story line. A journal automatically tracks clues you will need to solve some things, a map of every place you've been is built in, as well, and essential to find your way if you've never played before. The only downside is the brevity of the adventure, but it's still worth 99 cents. Or maybe I just wanted the adventure to go on forever. I actually would pay more for a longer adventure. Regardless, I've found Lost City to be a great stress reliever with an almost meditative quality now that I have played it often enough to know how to solve all the puzzles and get around without the map. This was a very nice follow-on to Grisly Manor, which was quite short but free. GM is very much a "practice" run for working the types of puzzles you'll find in the Lost City. ✓ The Lost CityTried game and liked it a lot. It does however, need some small degree of understanding of how it works, but this can be picked up quickly as long as you use the hints. I can see how some people give up at the beginning because it is not immediately obvious what to do, but once you get going, you can complete it in a day or so. I particularly liked the picture rearranging puzzles, and would be interested if there was an app that just had those puzzles on it. The graphics are also excellent. There are some frustrating parts in it, but once you find all four statues and write down what season they each bring, you are well on your way. I thoroughly recommend this game. Unlike most "escape" or "point and click" games, this game allows you to explore the beautiful world, unlock new areas and never leaves you feeling frustrated at the puzzles. The control scheme is very intuitive and well thought out. The in game map helps you navigate through the world with ease to find the puzzle that you just found the solution for without the frustration of searching for it until you happen on it. The clues are well done and are never over thought making the enjoyment outweigh the frustration. Unlike grisly manor (which entertained me for about 40mins) this kept me going all day and I was thankful for the hint guide, which I would normally try not to use but turned out to be immensely useful when I missed a step early in the game and had to go back and find where it was. Also love the journal, which keeps track of your clues and codes and can be opened up at anytime when trying to complete a puzzle. Whoever said this wasn't worth 99c is an idiot. With the amount of work that has gone into this it's an absolute bargain; I'd be charging $3-4 if it didn't effect the sale of it..Version: 1.01

I was completely stumped by the flower snake puzzle, but as soon as I got it (trust me, when you get it, you'll kick yourself how obvious it is) I was charging like a loco, after that. ✓ Excellent, but not for everyone.The only problem is one others have mentioned already: if you don't know how to play this kind of game, you're stuck. A quick tutorial needs to be available on the main screen. It's a "point and click". There is no real action or animation; you click (tap) on the top/sides/bottom of the screens to move to the next screen. You never see your character on-screen, nor interact with any other players or non-player characters. If you love different types of visual puzzles and beautiful graphics and don't mind doing some frustrated head-scratching (they do include a hint section in the journal) you will most likely find this game to be a good time-waster. Don't expect a big dramatic ending, either. This game is about the journey, not the destination. If you prefer action, lots of animation and a third-person view of your character, then this probably isn't for you (note for a couple of other reviewers: just because you don't like it or didn't understand how to play it, doesn't mean it's stupid)..Version: 1.03

The graphics are breathtaking, the puzzles are clever, the music is fantastic and whilst the story is a little thin, it ties it all together. ✓ Great gameWe loved this and were stuck on the tin flower box for a day until the update came through telling us to look at the leaves. Absolutely disagree not worth your 99c. The graphics, sound and problem solving were excellent. One suggestion, perhaps move the hints to a hide/show option in the settings. That way we wouldn't be so tempted to cheat ourselves! ✓ Great gameI'm only giving this 5 stars because I love this type of game and I want to encourage the devs to keep making fun puzzle adventure games. There were a few problems that I would like to comment on though. First of all the map system sort of forces you to think of the game as "tiles". Did you ever get lost in Myst? No, because the scenes flowed together and formed an atmosphere. I'm not saying this game doesn't flow well; I just think half the tiles could be rearranged and still seem like they are in the right spot. Even when you've been everywhere navigation is bothersome. The other big problem I had was one of the final puzzles. The one with the outer ring of like 16 blue dots and inner ring of 6 orange dots. ✓ Surprising enjoymentI was surprised with this game. It allows you to freely roam between locations to find all the puzzles- I love it when you get to explore good locations with good graphics. I liked that I wasn't bombarded with a tutorial and had the choice to follow the simple instructions from the menu. The hints were easily acceptable and you were not held to a meter of any kind- I found I only had to use it once or twice. The brain bending comes in locating all the pieces to get to some of the puzzles which I really enjoyed. That being said, I got this game for free due to their new game being out. I wouldn’t pay full price for this as it’s a bit outdated but that’s to be expected as it came out in 2012. I did need the hints and the map every now and again as I did get stuck, did something in the wrong order or just got lost. My only other gripe was, you had to go through the different places repeatedly, their are no short cuts. So if you left the rope at the cliff and not realising that you need it elsewhere and don't uput it back into your pack, you need to go through all scenes to get it. I wish the hint icon was set off by itself. I kept hitting it by accident when I meant to hit the bag. 3. I wish the hints were more subtle. Instead they tell you exactly what to do. ✓ Enjoyable puzzle adventure and no hidden object!Exactly what I was looking for in this type of game, wanted the puzzles not the usual 'find these 10 objects' every few scenes. Storyline is good, answers to the puzzles are all there along the adventure path but at times you do find yourself wondering which of the many unsolved ones you come across you should be trying to tackle next - it's quite back and forth. An extensive amount of screens but the map with thumbnails of the visited areas was good for navigating. I too thought it would be good to just click a specific screen on the map to warp there but later decided that would make it all too easy. ✓ Peaceful and Pleasant to playIf you're looking for some hardcore, gun blasting, vehicle crushing action, then no, go away now!!! If you're looking for something peaceful that's going to have you thinking, then this is where you need to be! It's nothing spectacular and the story is a little bit on the lame side, but this title will have you so engrossed in solving it's (simple but some brain power required) puzzles! No frustrating hidden object segments to artificially pad out the game play! As much as I love blowing away zombies and smashing a few skulls, I would love to see some more of this on here, I know there's a few other games like this floating about in the app store, but the ones I have played are simple brainless puzzles, that just involve you hunting down small objects that are barely visible, then playing where's Wally! This game is much more of a puzzler than "see that tiny little red dot hidden in the red lava pit, well that happens to be the key"! ✓ A beautiful world to get lost in for a few hoursIf you loved the myst series of games, or want something different to shooting aliens or catapulting birds across a screen then immerse yourself in the beautiful world of the lost city. Enjoy the beautiful graphics as you wander round a wondrous landscape solving the cleverly thought out puzzles as you go, which are just tricky enough to require some though but not so difficult you'll give up! I love the way you have to change seasons to solve different puzzles, and when you do the whole island gets transformed from a winter wonderland with frozen waterfalls and lakes, to a summers day with blooming flowers, or a verdant spring morning with drops of rain gently falling. Talking of rain - this was the perfect way to while away a wet weekend and for just 69p outstanding value!.Version: 1.02

✓ BrilliantReally enjoyed this game well worth the 69p I was addicted! got stuck a fair few times but was able to figure it with help from hints only puzzle I was totally stuck on was the snake box I was convinced mine has broken!!! if you want my help read on....... After seeing the snake hint that is stored in your journal look at the numbers with the leaves.. then look on the background of the snakebox to see them all match up.
