✓ Another crap version, where has the ‘Away’ and delete chat choice gone?Please bring back the ‘Away’ status!! The option of ‘do not disturb’ is not the same it implies that no one can leave a message while you’re in the other room or doing something else for a bit. ‘Away’ means just that, it is temporary. Also, I need to be able to switch Skype off. That choice has been taken away too, so now it is always on?? ‘Invisible’ is not turned off, and the annoying blip, blip sound every time someone leaves a message is really disturbing when I’m doing something else on my Tablet. Also, we cannot swipe left to delete the chat if we want to, we are stuck with it, nor can we swipe right to make a call or other options :( Upgrades are forced on us, if we don’t upgrade it stops working properly. Microsoft have ruined what was a really good, simple communication tool. It just gets worse and more invasive, with less choice. I kept with Skype because it was not like Facebook, WhatsApp etc. Now it is just copying all the worst bits about all the other Apps. :(.Version: 8.29

✓ Ipad pro bugs - saving pics?Generally Skype is okay and works for me, but I just spent an hour trying and trying and trying to save or share a pic someone sent me…. Saved them each at least three times. Can’t find them anywhere. The “share” button on individual images just doesn’t work at all. Nothing comes up when you choose it. So photos sent to me just sit there in the chat, useless. Why is such an obvious thing overlooked? When I press and hold on the image, there are no options that DO ANYTHING useful. “Save” may or may not save, but God know where to, on my ipad pro. There is no “Share” option on that menu. ✓ The other side cannot hear meI have tried to call a landline in Germany via skype for the past three days; the other side (the receiver) cannot hear me. I tried the skype app from my iPhone, iPad, iMac and MacBook (all very recent devices). Nothing. Microsoft eventually helped me and told me to use skype via the internet - this worked brilliantly and the other side could finally hear me after days of frustration. The help desk person on the skype chat did say they were having problems especially with the Big Sur upgrade on Mac and that they are working on an upgrade of the current apps. I’m afraid this is not good enough especially since I pay Microsoft for this service..Version: 8.70

✓ Never Had Problems Prior to the UpdateThis new update is terrible. I used to Skype on my phone until they updated the iPhone version to this confusing layout. Now I have no choice but to use another group calling app. First off, I’d like to say I’m giving this 2 stars solely because I never had major problems before the update. As soon as I opened the new updated Skype app on my iPad, all of my contacts were gone other than the favorited ones so I clicked “sync contacts” and it put all of my contacts from my iPad on my Skype. Also, all of my recent messages were gone. The last one was from March (yes I have used Skype plenty of times since). I don’t know how to work this new app layout, I don’t know how to access the chat (it’s not as easy as it was where you could swipe once and it’d be there), and I don’t know how to get my messages back. The least you could do is explain why you did this to us, how to use it, and give an option to go back to the old version!.Version: 8.25
✓ Various defects and two apps?It’s unclear why Skype and Skype for ipad are two distinct apps available for the ipad App store. The numpad is sluggish in both (when making phone calls) and Skype is still plagued by this difficult where some of your devices are not ringing when someone is calling, while others are. Spoiler alert; the one you need the most will actually not ring and you’ll be left losing time from your meeting, either that is a piano lesson, therapy or whatever. Finally, a video uploaded in a conversation successfully played/fully downloaded on the Skype app but didn’t in the Skype for ipad app..Version: 8.88

You can talk it works and you can even test to see if your sound is working its super fun there is a together mode so you and your friend can go on a adventure ! ✓ Losing the plotSkype used to be a useful, functional service that was easy and intuitive to use and focussed on its central purpose, I.e making calls and sending chats. Now the whole thing has been dumbed down in a way that presumably appeals to teenagers with mobile phones. The whole clutter of emoticons, bots, inscrutable alerts and notifications, suggestions for unwanted additional contacts, etc etc now make using Skype a pain. No, I do not want every contact in my e-mail address book listed as someone I might like to invite to a Skype, I have no wish to chat with my plumber or the tax office. Sadly in the hands of the current generation of developers this app is just getting worse and worse, not only on the iPad but on Windows and presumably everywhere else too. I am now abandoning it in favour of wire and Signal (until they go down the same track too)..Version: 8.33
✓ Not that good.Once you finally get to sign in you can call your friend or whatever and the camera quality is poor and most of the time it just says connecting and doesn’t ring them or it says ringing and the Skype ringtone doesn’t play. My friends voice sounds really odd on Skype kinda like a robot. Also why does it have to make you say “give me a call when your back” sometimes she accidentally declines it then it makes me say give me a call when your back or I have to wait 10 years trying to delete each letter please remove that it’s really annoying. A lot of the time it just goes silent while calling or even worse it just signs you out with no warning or reason mid call luckily I remembered my password but can you imagine the hassle of someone having to make a new Skype account then trying to find all there friends again. Can you at least warn us before you sign us out. And sometimes it’s says she read my messages even though she hasn’t that can be annoying as well. Other than that Skype is ok ....Version: 8.66.1
✓ Has it’s problemsI’ve been using Skype for a while and have noticed problems - the main one is that GIFs just don’t work half of the time. It will just give a little error screen in place of the GIF. More recently, I received a notification that this Skype app will no longer be supported, and that I should ‘download a new, unified Skype app for your iPad…’ The link takes me to the iPhone app! ✓ SkypeI have paid for Skype for about 20 years. It was highly functional initially. Ever since Microsoft bought it it has been slow to load the app & open up, slow to display the key pad, slow to respond to the touch, slow to dial, slow to hang up even. By slow, I mean that I often wait 15 seconds for the app to open & it regularly takes me three attempts to dial a number correctly because of the delays in key pad response. Just switching from calls to texts can take touching the button half a dozen times before it responds! I could say more but I think you get the idea. It is barely functional the last few years. Also, I have my settings so that calls will forward to my cell phone if I don’t answer on my iPad within 20 seconds & even when I’m expecting a call & I push the button on the first ring it forwards the call anyway-very frustrating. Today I was expecting a call so a I went on my computer to stop the call forwarding and received a message telling me that services were not available. The call I was expecting came & I answered it on the first ring but it forwarded anyway so I had to call the person back (I had texted to notify her that this might happen before she called me so she was prepared for it but it takes time to set that up too). I know the delays I experience are not necessary because for years Skype was not like this so it disgusts me that it is like this now!.Version: 8.83.2
✓ Good quality, dumb video formatWhile the audio and video quality are quite good, Skype continues to get silly with the video format. Since the latest update I can no longer zoom out the caller’s video. Previous this was possible, though it would randomly zoom the video back in. Microsoft most likely did this to remove the black bars in landscape mode, but let the user make that decision for themselves. The preview window continues to be reversed, yet another option a user could have. This has been suggested in the Skype forum for years by many people and continues to be ignored to this day. If you want to see the full video from your caller when they’re in landscape mode, you have to be in portrait mode. Slowly but surely, Skype is getting worse at video options..Version: 8.46
✓ It's great - don't 'improve' it please!Just reviewed the new Skype for iphone with one star, gladly the ipad version is still the old Skype that I know and love. I am urging the developers, please PLEASE don't 'improve' this version into oblivion also! Five stars - but only under the above condition :-) Edit 14 July: Unfortunately you have decided to improve the iPad version for the worse also, same as you did to the iPhone version. There is no proper contact list anymore and no on-offline status switch. People constantly try to call me via the PC telling me I appear online, but in fact I am not. Except on my Mac, I cannot switch properly to ‘offline’ any more, for my friends to see. Shame on you for disregarding user feedback and making the once professional looking and powerful video conferencing software into a supposedly ‘modern’ Snapchat clone trying to appeal to 12 year olds. Why do I need to ‘synchronise’ my contacts? I had a Skype list in the old Skype version that showed me perfectly who is online and who not. Not it is all a jumbled up mess that doesn’t show who really is available. Not everyone on my phone is on Skype and there is a reason for it, could you please appreciate that, thanks. ✓ So angry about the new updateYes, the update makes skype more like the one for phone. I do like the fact that I can change to dark theme. EVERYTHING ELSE I ABSOLUTELY HATE! Because of all the new changes, I think skype is now ugly. I don’t like that you have to wait to send a reply because if you don’t you’ll accidentally hit ‘send location’ after you have typed something. It’s soooooo laggy and buggy. Sometimes I’ll write something very long and meaningful to send to another person- and normally it’s important, and then skype will reload. ✓ The WORST!Skype is the worst! I don’t use Skype anymore. So I signed in. Took me a while to find the “Close your Account” typed in my Skype Name, password and then “Verify your identity” I would love to verify but the email which is still on file, is an old one no longer in use. So I tried to change the email in my Skype account. Took me ages to get the codes to my new email. After I verified the new email, I tried it again.. And WOW, the old Email is still there. Still on file. I can see the new email but obviously Skype takes ages to sync to Microsoft ?! This is horrible and unacceptable!! I want to close my account!! ✓ Screen goes completely blankOnce you’ve brought up the keyboard, simple navigation like minimizing it or switching to another contact turns the screen completely blank. ✓ Unnecessary gimmicks, unintuitive UI, mediocre sound qualityBefore Skype was acquired years ago by a giant corporation its sound quality was head and shoulders above competition. UI was simple and uncluttered, pure joy to use. Since then following changes happened - the sound got much worse (even though average Internet speed increased dramatically) - UI is very difficult to comprehend all the while lots of irrelevant features being added trying to catchup to modern competitors, like the Chinese one whose name starts with Z... Remaining reasons to still use Skype are laziness and the fact it doesn’t require a phone number, like most competing solutions. ✓ A Microsoft farceEver since Microsoft bought Skype it's gone down hill, but particularly on the iPad, probably in a cynical attempt to damage the competition (Apple). The online status function is broken and keeps resetting to online (so much for privacy), file/image sharing is also broken, so you get diverted to the website, messages are still a case of pot-luck if they arrive, the send button for messages is so small it's a joke, but at least were spared the intrusive banner ads from the desktop version. Also, most chat messages aren't delivered for days, weeks, or at all. I've given up using Skype and use Whatsapp instead..Version: 8.40.1
✓ Ruined SkypeEach update makes it worse. Since Microsoft took it over it keeps changing and not for the better. I'm slowly changing everything to Apple. Not been happy since XP was replaced. I gave away a six month old laptop on windows 7 which I hated. I now have 8 but will not have 10 so will be forced to buy Apple when laptop packs up. Microsoft seems to take over good software and ruin it. The things I used to love about Microsoft have gone downhill since it started copying Apple. Now it's just a third rate copy of Apple. He made me tear up I reported and blocked him. Now this guys dad got on the call and said I was a stupid B I’m not stupid I’m Acing school. His dad is a cyber bully too I’m not talking to this person anymore . ✓ Typical Microsoft rubbish...Be prepared to be disappointed. This app was once great, then MS bought it and the trend has been downhill at an ever increasing rate. They are more interested in gathering your conversations to on-sell than provide a reliable comms app. It is soooooooo slooooooooooow now to the point where every time I answer it hangs up on the caller before the app can answer even if I answer on the first ring! ✓ Newest version (8.27 & up) on iPadAs others have said, truly the worst update of any app I have ever seen. It took an acceptable app and made it almost impossible to modify data even if wrong. Has a help button that is very hard to find, must less a smart help. How do you add a second number to a contact? The entire man-machine interface is a farce, with no intuitiveness, or useful menus. I hate to say it, but as someone who used to design hardware and software, I would fire the entire group of people who are responsible for the man-machine interface on this latest version, and start over. Or at least go back to previous man-machine interface. ✓ Skype for iPad is flaky…I have been using Skype for several years- ever since it was published and long before it was acquired by Microsoft. It was my favorite tool for communicating with family and friends around the world. More recently I’ve been having all sorts of problems with Skype for iPad. The problem started a few months ago when suddenly I was unable to log into my account whenever i tried I get a window asking me to provide Microsoft permission to view my conversation and other use of Skype. I deleted the app and stopped using it after talking to Microsoft representative who told me the problem should be resolved in a couple of days. Now it seem every time I try to type something there is a pause or delay after every letter or word I type. Sometimes I start getting clicking sounds like a typewriter when I write my text with delay after each key stroke. Not sure if this is a problem with Skype or there is something going on with the iPad. I don’t have similar problems with other apps on the iPad which leads me to think that it’s a Microsoft/Skype issue. I also think Skype needs to modernize and incorporate some of the functionality available in Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Thanks.Version: 8.79.2

✓ Notifications are disappearing??I’m not sure what it is. The notifications will come in on my home screen,but when I go into Skype itself,I don’t see any of the messages or missed call etc. showing up in the chat history. Sometimes I’ll even call someone and the call just won’t go through. The person on the other also says they’ve been trying to call,but no call ever came in on my end either. This has happened several times with multiple persons. Because of that,I’ve missed calls and messages that simply don’t even appear in my chat history. Not to mention,I’m on iOS but my friends devices are android,so it seems less of a platform issue and more like Skype just needs to fix something in the app right across the board. Other than that,the call quality is actually ok. Gets muffled whenever it claims the connection is poor,but I don’t complain about that. It always goes to black screen when I perform several basic functions I wanna try to highlight text or go back and write something constantly going to black screen so I have to shut down the whole app and start it up againIn order to see anything at all. ✓ Well done Microsoft I'm dumping SkypeThe recent 'upgrade' requires iOS 10. I'm on an iPad 2 and 3 neither of which will upgrade to iOS 10. So I'm now locked out of Skype and will find an alternative app and also uninstall Skype on my laptop and phone. I'm sure the core functionality would not require iOS 10. I have no interest in or need for all the extras and changes that have been made. Neither will I buy a 3rd iPad just to use this app. Given the spyware that is Windows 10 I imagine all the messages and images sent through Skype are stored permanently on Microsoft servers with open access to all. ✓ Why does screen sharing fail all the time?This app used to be fine, but now every time I do a video call on my iPad, the other person who is sharing from a computer has to push the screen sharing button 10 to 20 times before it works, with no obvious reason why not, just a grey cross and a black screen. Sometimes her video keeps showing, and sometimes it disappears, when the screen sharing finally and randomly starts working. ✓ A horrible company (Microsoft)Had to use Skype for a scheduled business call. Started Skype and was blocked by a mandatory, not circumventable “get it now” upgrade screen. If I wanted to make the important call I had to immediately upgrade. Upgraded, and now stuck with garbage software that I didn't want or need. It's pretty bad. I’m now looking for an alternative to Skype. I’m old enough to remember Microsoft in the age of Windows 3.0 refusing to allow deletion of Internet Explorer, covertly installing a “Super Cookie” and other sleazy tricks. And more recently their tricky covert installs of Windows 10 even when you clicked the “don't install” X-button. I suppose they looked at what Facebook has been successfully doing and decided “hey, we can be bullies again”. My advice is: find an alternative to Skype and leave the Microsoft ecosystem behind. ✓ Doesn't like older iPadsStopped working because older iPad runs on iOS 9 and won't upgrade higher. So Skype newer versions don't work anymore on iOS 9. Surely existing fine program should be able to run without upgrading itself out of compatibility. ✓ Major issuesFor the last month or so, there has been an issue with color transmitting between my friend and me. It’s fine on his end, but on my end, the color of his camera stream is completely messed up. The color channels are not being properly aligned on my end. What I see is greyscale, with some blue and red channel information offset in weird places (for example, you can see his arms in red moving at the top of the screen even though they’re at the bottom). This issue is intermittent, but very annoying. This only occurs with the camera; screen-sharing is fine. With this latest update, there’s a permanent dark grey rectangle across the top of the screen. Not sure if this is supposed to be a feature, but it looks stupid and just takes up a bunch of my limited screen space. My thumbnail doesn’t fit in the rectangle during video chats but does with screen-sharing, which makes me think this is a bugged feature..Version: 8.68

✓ Clunky and unintuitive for 2018Even after several years under the ownership of Microsoft, the Skype UI remains abysmal. A good UI should present an obvious path to get the job done - in this case 99% of the time that’s making a call from a contact, saving a contact, or just pulling up the keypad for a one-off call. This is not rocket science. There are acres of unused real estate where primary functions could be highlighted. Instead you have obscure drop down menus, tiny fonts, and miniature icons lurking in odd corners. There is also a strange logic to how things are done. ✓ Lots of issuesI have many reasons for this 1 star review 1. I do online art class on Skype and when I’m using a guest account it kicks me out every 10-20 minutes even though the guest account says it lasts 24 hours 2. I did make an account to stop that and I used it for 1 day then it kicked me out and won’t allow me to sign back in 3. The quality is bad — sometimes the audio will glitch out or my the screen will go black (my art teacher shares her screen) there have been times when it even muted her randomly. She also got kicked out a few times 4. I downloaded Skype on my iPad but recently whenever I click a Skype link it brings me to safari with 2 options: “Download Skype” and “Launch it now”. Since I already have the app I click “Launch it now” but nothing happens. ✓ Very Irritating IssuesI’ve been using Skype for iPad a lot for online lessons and there are constantly annoying problems coming up. For one, screen-sharing is a nightmare. My teacher has to turn their camera off before screen-sharing and then turn it back on again for some reason, in order for it to work. Secondly, if I tap the screen a little too far left when I’m reviewing the video I recorded of the Skype lesson, it just immediately transfers me to the previous video (which is already irritating in itself), but then when I exit and re-click the video I’m trying to watch it comes up as an error and I have to refresh the entire app. These issues literally happen every single time and I’m on my last straw. I still use it now and then to communicate with the few people who don’t have smart phones with access to better, newer apps. It still kinda works, but it feels like Pac-Man in a Fortnite world.. ✓ It’s mehSo I’ve been using Skype for at least 5 or so years, and in those 5 years I’ve noticed some things that are good and bad about it. Let’s start out with the good. Good -Reliable: Overall this is a reliable app with texting and calling about 75-80% of the time. -Simplicity: Skype is really simple to use and pick up on. -Effective: When I am using Skype for calls with my friends, it generally is effective with video and audio. ✓ Update makes it more difficult to useAdded Microsoft login, meaning a Skype account alone isn’t enough anymore. During video call, buttons are much smaller on screen and harder to use. The video windows of own front facing and the other persons camera are very limited regarding moving around. ✓ Was perfect became absolutely nightmareSkype became to difficult to use. Also without users permission all of my contacts showed up in Skype without the possibility of removing them again! I had Skype contacts since those were the people i used to call, with all my other contacts being there, it became completely impossible to even find your original Skype contacts. ✓ How hard is it?I only use the app for educational purposes. Because of this, I can immediately see that Skype isn’t built for education. The chat takes too long to load properly. The chat for some reason “teleports” while it loads so I either have to scroll repeatedly or I overshoot it. Files on the iPad immediately uninstall once I exit out of them (so if I have to switch from looking at the teacher’s whiteboard to looking at the file numerous times, it gets annoying). Most importantly, which is not specific for education, WHY does the app ask permission to use camera app but not actually use it? Apple cameras are pretty decent, so I don’t get why it isn’t being used correctly. It doesn’t even focus meaning the slightest shake/quiver of the hand will result in my text being dramatically blurred. Some changes are good, I like the dark theme; but overall the changes made recently have ruined my experience. The inability to post images (from my iPad storage) in the call chat is the main one that truly annoys me. To elaborate, clicking on the chat icon in the left corner of the call does not bring up any camera or locally stored image options. ✓ Very GlitchyThe app has recently become very glitchy such as disconnecting you from calls and saying that people are active when they are not and have not been for a while. Calls have been lasting a minimum of 13 seconds and a maximum of about 20 minutes, for children this is annoying as for example they are playing a game and also on chat, they keep having to leave that game to be able to call back and for adults that are using it for work meetings it is extremely important that they are able to keep the call. The issues are extremely distressing and I would not recommend this app as it is currently. I think some major improvements need to be made.
