The ratio of options to intuition is impressive - I had built and tuned several mixes within 10 minutes of starting it up for the first time, just by looking over the UI. The sound quality of these clips are first class. No annoying background artifacts, and increased volume barely creates distortion. There are a few sounds that do, but a slight decrease in volume cleans up well. I'm recommending the paid version because it provides a great range of sounds vs. the free app. I'm happy to flame bad apps, but I sleep better at night after posting a 5 star review. I was very impressed it had very good sounds that could all be mixed to suit your needs. I quickly upgraded to the pro version and the additional noises were perfect. I use a simple mix of rain on porch/thunder nearly every night. Another plus is the timer because you can set as many sounds as you want to run for as long as you want so do one sound or mix for 8 hours or do eight different sounds or mixes for an hour each. This is a great option that is customizable for your tastes and likings. Personally I like the thunderstorms, the rain and or the waves breaking at the beach. When it's noisier outside I find the train tracks pleasant too. For just a few dollars you get many options. I also have a fire app for ambient noise but this one is so much more with all the choices, looping a bit of music too. Nice that you can make mixes, as during the day when the baby sleeps less and tends to sit awake (yes, his pattern is unusual but awesome) he gets restless after awhile if it doesn't change out. What was a surprise was how much better I sleep with it on. It is now indispensable for any business trip abroad, where I have never been able to sleep right (strange bed, flight cold, etc). I ended up buying the app just to show my gratitude, as the free one did the trick, and the added features made it worthwhile. The only thing I'd ask the developers to add is an alarm clock feature. This is so helpful for sleeping, it would be good to have a feature where it turns off and then the alarm kicks in. I use different versions of white noise almost exclusively (although the purring cat noise is always good for a lift). I've used other apps for white noise and find that sometimes background noises become apparent in the recordings, which is really annoying. That has not been the case with any of the white noise options on this app. My favorite by far is the waterfall because the noise is uniform, loud, and just the right pitch for sleeping. This app has saved me from having to cart around an actual white noise generator, and with the right set of earbuds it's the only thing that makes day sleeping in hotels possible. This is basically a decent sample player with a timer. To make it a great app, there are some things that should be done. 1. Allow more than one sound to play at once, preferably with a volume mixer between the two sounds. DONE. 2. Cross fade between sounds in the play list. It can be jarring to go from ocean waves to frogs chirping suddenly. A gradual fade would be nice. Even nicer if the fade time can be adjusted from a few seconds to a minute or more, 3. Allow volume levels to be set per sound. Some of them are at such different perceived volumes that it actually wakes me up when it switches. DONE. 4. Provide for user generated/recorded sounds to be used. Maybe I want to use the sound of my wife snoring, for instance, to make me feel like I'm at home. 5.
