Elder Sign: Omens for iPad for Positive User Reviews

Solid gameI haven't played the card version, but this is a solid game that's plenty of fun. I wring my hands about the dice rolling and complaining about odds, but I still dig it. It has limited replayability once you complete the Cthulhu campaign, but does layout how more interesting scenarios could be crafted and sold as add-ons. Add some more elder ones to fight and some tools for crafting more game out of this great structure. The big complaint--I hope this looks like a five star review so far--I have is that it doesn't really feel creepy. The terror effects are frustrating as heck, but more storytelling of some sort--narration and video work well--could really ramp it up. The Wasted Land totally gets this right by putting story up front as a major concern ands the Cthulhu campaign hints at how this might work better here..Version: 1.1.3

Good gamePleased to see that the developers rapidly fixed the DLC problem. Good game; atmospheric and addictive..Version: 1.1.3

Still one of the best board game adaptionsAfter many years, I still keep coming back to play this. The difficult level is hard, but that’s good - you keep coming back for more! Background music is excellent and it’s simply a nice little game. Wish there was more content available but doubt it will ever happen! Recommended..Version: 1.5.0

FantasticGreat iOS version of a fantastic board game! It's tough but the atmosphere and mechanics will keep you coming back..Version: 1.2.3

Awesome valueOne of the best games on the store, the production value of this game is amazing. Very professional art and gameplay. The difference between a board game company converting one of their own games, to some small startup, Elder Sign is a great game..Version: 1.4.2

ChallengingCan be fun but also quite a challenging game and it leans a bit too much on the luck side for my liking. Hopefully Fantasy Flight will release Arkham Horror for the iPad sometime in the future..Version: 1.1.3

Great, but why so hardI love the game, and a Call of Cthulhu game was missing from the app store until now. graphics are really good, perhaps a bit more animation could be used. gameplay is simple and easy to follow, but the randomness of the action phase I'm finding practically impossible to succeed. I think I've completed only one task in any game, before going insane or dying. I realise its is hard to thwart the mythos, but shouldn't be impossible. But a great first effort. Multiplayer would be good upgrade..Version: 1.0

Great Alternative to Eldritch Horror!I played this game. Loved it! Then bought all the expansions! I really loved this game way more than I thought I would. :) I bought it on a $0.99 sale. In retrospect, it is definitely worth the full price. This game definitely scratches the same itch as Eldritch Horror (board game), because it offers a storyline with each game. And best of all, this game can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of Eldritch Horror. I've not played Elder Sign the physical board game, but I can definitely imagine how the app is better. No worries about setting anything up, or problems with rules. The music in the game, sets a great eerie mood. The graphics are really well done. Together you they give you a great atmospheric game, something that can be hard to achieve with a physical game. Compared to Eldritch Horror, this game is easier. Both games require a fair amount of luck with the dice rolls, but I found this game easier to manage bad dice rolls, than Eldritch. But don't get me wrong.... this game is still quite hard! And there is definitely some important strategy when picking your characters at the beginning of each game (example: The Ithaqua expansion I finally figured out a proper team of characters to beat the game after dozens of plays, and one character was especially needed to win because of their special ability!). After playing this game, I decided to sell my copy of Eldritch Horror — And I think that says a lot too! The best thing about the expansions to this game is the story lines. I love the pictures and audio narration. In the future, I hope that Fantasy Flight Games will release a game that blends both Elder Sign and Eldritch Horror together. What I mean is.... take the dice mechanics (the different symbols and locking dice) from Elder Sign and mix it with the globe trotting experience of Eldritch Horror. I think that would be truly epic!.Version: 1.4.3

Crash at startup fixedDelete and fresh install fixed the problem.Version: 1.5.0

Great GameI really like this game. It took me forever to learn how to play it though. Some things I'd like to see: - an easier level to help with the learning period - the ability to turn off some of the animations (i.e. the ones introducing the museum, the ancient one, etc. - the ability to see how many tokens each investigator has along site their stamina and sanity.Version: 1.2.2

SuperbThis game is simply fantastic. I had glanced over the Arkham Horror board game before, and so I decided to give this game a shot. I couldn't be more delighted. It incorporates Lovecraft's work seamlessly into a creepy tour of the mythos. The game itself is very well executed. It is straightforward enough to quickly pick up, and yet complex enough that I am driven to replay this over and over again. It has proven to be a great experience whether I am playing it by myself or passing it around in a group. For me this game has reshaped what games on the iPad should be. As soon as finances allow I am very eager to check out further products from this company!.Version: 1.1.3

Fun and Challenging and very LovecraftianI am a veteran of many years of the Call of Cthulhu RPG (many years ago), and the Arkham Horror board game. Both of those games required lots of time to set up, and friends who wanted to invest lots of time playing with me. This gets me my Lovecraft fix... it's faithful to many of the Fantasy Flight game mechanics, which in turn borrows on the old Chaosium RPG sanity mechanics. Very cool. Clean art. I like the varying strategies (picking your team) and the tactics (matching the investigator to the adventure...). The game feels fresh on replay, as there is enough randomness to make you shift your tactics. Fun and very balanced, and probably my favorite game on the iPad right now. SANITY CHECK!.Version: 1.3.3

Great game - one of the best iPad board gamesI purchased the board game recently after watching Wil Wheaton play it on Table Top. After playing the board game, decided to buy the iPad version. It's a great implementation of the board game - slightly simplified, but still has all the features. The graphics are great. The gameplay is great. The instructions are all videos, extremely well done. I find it gives me the exact feel of playing the board game, but it keeps track of everything for me and plays a little faster. If you like the board game, you'll love this implementation. If you've never played, watch Table Top (Wil Wheaton's bi-weekly web series where he plays board games with internet celebs)..Version: 1.1.3

One of my all time favourite iPad gamesAs always, great game, please restore the option to 'fail' an adventure voluntarily, having to play through all the dice when victory is impossible is just a waste of time..Version: 1.2

Excellent, but a little priceyElder Sign HD is a very nearly perfect iOS implementation of the Elder Sign dice/card game. The game play is fluid and engrossing, but quick enough so you can run through an entire session in about 15 minutes. The tension as you get close to sealing the gate while the doom track rises can be terrific. There are a few odd changes from the original (e.g. Spell locks are lost at the end of a turn just like focused dice, plus there is no chance to fight should the Great Old One awake) but none of them are game wrecking. The only real down check (and hence only a 4 star rating) is you only get half a game for your initial purchase. You have to fork over another $5.98 to get the better GOOs, including the best known baddie Cthulhu, plus the rest of the investigators that should have been in the base game. I'm not against paid DLC as a rule, but this stings a bit. Lower the DLC to $0.99 (or he base game to $2.99) and I would recommend this without reservation..Version: 1.2.7

Beautifully made and challengingThis an excellent iPad game. It works smoothly on my iPad2 without a hitch. It's not easy to succeed in the game, even on the easiest level! You have to first learn how to play the game, then pay attention to the special abilities of each character (e.g. The Prof can monster glyphs into scroll glyphs) and then pick a team that works well together and then choose the challenges strategically to get the best overall chance of success. Once you get the hang of all that and your dice rolls aren't too unlucky, you can win. I've played it about a dozen times now and have won two of the last three (on the easiest level). I almost gave up on the game after some hopeless losses but I'm now enjoying it. There aren't many iPad board games out there that look good and play well. This is definitely one of them..Version: 1.2.2

Thoroughly EnjoyableWonderful artwork and fun game mechanics are your traveling companion, as you descend more often than not into madness..Version: 1.3.3

OutstandingThis game is great, the presentation from the very moment you launch it is very professional as you would expect from an establish board game company such as Fantasy Flight Games. They have made some small changes from the Elder Sign board game and this does not hurt this version, though personally I would like them to consider an bringing an expansion where the missing elements are brought back into the game such as the other ancient ones to battle. That would be an instant purchase for me. The game has both tutorial videos and a rule guide to help you find your way and even if you have not played this style of game before you will soon be up and running. You can play 1-4 player in this and as a single player the best experience is selecting a team of four Investigators and playing each in turn. The game is balanced enough to provide some very tense finishes and you never feel cheated if you fall short of success. Likewise when you win you do feel a sense of achievement. The artwork is outstanding and the background music helps add to the atmosphere. Easy game to recommend and hard to put down I look forward to Fantasy Flight Games next venture onto IOS with anticipation..Version: 1.0.5

Rigged? LolzIt's funny listening to some reviewers complain that the game is rigged, that somehow the dice rolls are stacked against you. Why would the developers do this? What would they gain? It's not logical, unless it's a freemium game and they are trying to sell you powerups, new weapons, spells, etc. To the reviewer who says none of the campaigns are winnable, I've won all of them multiple times. In the case of Yig or Tsathoggua, I can win almost every time. Don't confuse your poor strategy with a rigged game. I'll grant you, some campaigns aren't easy. It took multiple tries to win Cthulhu, and Ithaqua is insanely hard as advertised. Keep at it. And don't blame the game for your shortcomings..Version: 1.4.2

High qualityFantasy flight is known for high quality board games. I am so glad to see that translating to their mobile products. That said, I have never played the board game version of this game so I cannot speak to how well it compares. This game is very polished. Great mood music and graphics really set the tone. I had always resisted any game in the Lovecraft worlds because I am not really into scary/horror stuff, but this was much cooler than I expected. Cut scenes, great help (some even with video), good strategy/luck blend.. This game really is a very nice piece of work. My hats off to the whole FF crew. As for downsides.. It did take me about 5 games to really understand what was going on in this game. If you are willing to invest the time it is worth it. The games are a little long but it does save your progress if you need to stop and I have enough board games on my iPad that are short. This scratches a different itch. It took me about 8 games to win my first game against Yig (the easy one).. But I am sure that it was just my slow learning curve.. Okay.. Now for shameless begging.. Please please please FF, keep bringing more titles to iOS.. Blood Bowl Team Manager would seem a port-able game.. But most anything in the catalog would be good.. This was a fantastic first effort!.Version: 1.1.3

It Gets No BetterLike the card and board games from which it was adapted, "Elder Sign: Omens" is brutally unforgiving. The odds are completely stacked against you at every turn and you are doomed to fail more often than not, often in spectacular fashion. You are not going to win every time. Maybe not even half of the time. However, it never feels unfair. It only serves to make each win that much sweeter. The games are long, intense and use the Lovecraft mythology in a spectacular fashion. Of all the games that I have played on my iPad, this gets the highest recommendation. It works wonderfully as a single player or as a play-and-pass experience. The art, the pacing and the replayability are all top notch. I certainly hope that it continues to be supported with more content. If you have no experience with this series or other similar games, I would say that it should take you no longer than 1 to 1.5 playthroughs to grasp the mechanics. If this is your first experience with the series and you want to branch out into something even more challenging and grandiose, I recommend giving the "Arkham Horror" board game a try..Version: 1.1.3

Elder sign: omens hdPlay 2 times. Can't finish because crash and freeze. Now the game is stuck. Restarting my ipad2 does not fix the problem. Please update to fix. Otherwise I like the game so far..Version: 1.0.1

Elder sign, uncommonly goodI rarely write a review for a game, though I chat about Cthulhu and Lovecraft a lot on YSDC CBC. I played this a while on the basic version and was hooked. I bought the upgrades, very satisfying game play. Challenges are strong and characters/abilities balanced so that the grey matter has a really fun time. Thanks to the designers. I do have a suggestion, . could the spells, clues etc be swappable between PCs if they are in the same location?.Version: 1.5.0

Wonderful gameThis is an excellent game and as a Lovecraft fan you can't go wrong. It's also got a great level of difficulty which makes victory all the sweeter. Kudos to the team that produced this..Version: 1.0.5

Brilliant game!Makes you want to play again and again. Also makes you want to buy all the expansions (which I did) which are really good. The porting to iPad is almost perfect..Version: 1.3.3

Excellent! And spooky too.Firstly, I own the Elder Signs board game, and this has helped immensely as a learning aid for playing that. Secondly, this is really an excellent game. Produced to a high standard and very fun to play. Its a challenge to win certainly. But then, so are all of FFG's co-op board games. Doesn't need multiplayer in my opinion, but GameCentre enabled leaderboards are a must! Please FFG, add those GC leaderboards. Throw in a few achievements as well eh?.Version: 1.0

FantasticWe'll done. Great implementation of a fun game..Version: 1.4.1

Good funI really like this game. It is challenging (very challenging in to the new comer), but once the game play clicks in to place, this is an addictive and fun distraction. The presentation values, from the graphics to the sound are extremely high. The difficulty level is very tough, but the more you play the more you start to figure out the mechanics and strategies required. I've not played this style of board game before, but it works really well in the digital format on iPad. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it's not too steep, and by the third or forth game it should start to make sense. Well worth it. If you like board games, you can not go wrong with this one. I hope we see more expansions in the future..Version: 1.1.3

Fun Single Player GamePick an Old One to battle, gather your team of investigators and go at it! It’s pretty easy to play, with rich in-game help. There are some differences from the board game, but they are pretty minor. The investigators are limited until you unlock or buy them, but it’s enough to have a good game. Obviously, some combinations of investigators are better than others; but again, that contributes to the fun. Be aware this game is all about the dice rolls. Crappy rolls will beat the best team, and vice versa. I’m still terrible at it, but I found: You need to take out effects like monster generation and dice locks ASAP, or it will add up fast. Go for the Elder Signs whenever possible. Use the investigator’s abilities and inventory items early and often, especially clues. More dice is better. If others have better strategies or tip, please add them to comments!.Version: 1.4.3

A shame that it seems abandonedI like the game but it has bugs and could use some love. Twice I’ve completed all the conditions of a task, and it won’t complete. You either have to fail it to get out or feed dice to the abyss even though there is nothing left to get. When the game is over, the summary needs to be better, and it would be nice if it tracked your progress with the monsters..Version: 1.5.0

Get it now!Fantastic game that feels right on the ipad..Version: 1.2.3

Great gameFun game, playable with 1 to 4 investigators. On iPad no serious bug or crash issues for me after 100 plus games. Stats on my first 50 are on the ffg boards. The insanity sound effect creeps out my wife, so that shows how good the art and sound is. Hope they unlock/come out with expansions soon. Once you get the hang of it, you win more than lose which is just wrong for a Lovecraft theme game, the Old One is Azathoth, which generally in these games is the easiest. So, I hope to shudder in terror when the King inYellow and others arrive..Version: 1.0.5

Great.. but needs update!I really enjoyed this game. Scratches the Cthulhu itch. It is true it feels very random at first, like another reviewer who compared it to a slot machine. However, you will soon discover the luck mitigation required to improve your performance. Use certain characters abilities to improve your chances - Gloria to visit other worlds and get free yellow and red glyphs, Harvey Walters to take on lore heavy tasks. Graphics and atmosphere are nicely done. However, I'm now getting warnings that the app needs an update for the latest version of iOS and I don't see any update available. Developers - don't let this clever little game become defunct!.Version: 1.4.3

Great Strategy GameI really love this game. I have not run into any of the problems with the application that you read in the other reviews. I have played it about 30 times so far and have not run into any lockups or crashing of hte application. What I like best about this game is that there is a strategy aspect and a randomness aspect to it. Even after you have figured out some of the tricks to making it easier to beat the game, there is no guarantee that those tricks will work each time. The randomness aspect to it keeps things up in the air and non-deterministic. While you have strategic decisions to make about using the best investigator with the right equipment for the particular events you are going to try to handle, and decisions as to whether the negative affects of failing an event are outweighed by the bonuses, as well as whether you should try to beef up your equipment before handling an event, or getting rid of midnight effects prior to midnight coming, there is also that randomness that makes it possible that all of your strategic planning may get screwed up and you have to adapt. Again, I love this game and highly recommend it to anyone who is into strategic board games. This one ranks up there with Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, and Ticket to Ride for me..Version: 1.0.5

Great new Old Ones, but a reward bugI love the new Alaska Old One. It is an actual challenge that adds a good deal of replay ability to the game. My friend bought the game for her IPhone as well. She won the new Alaska Old One (the new Very Hard) on her first try. I won after five tries, experimenting with different investigators. The investigators that walk all over Cthulu I have found have a much harder time against the new tough campaign. We both experienced a frustrating bug, though. A new investigator is supposed to unlock when you beat the Alaska Old One. For both her IPhone and my IPad (1), we won but the investigator failed to unlock. Someone else complained in a review that they should not have made a new Very Hard mode Old One. Keep in mind they also gave away a new easier Old One as well. (Although, I don't understand why anyone would want something you can win essentially every time you play or even call it a "game", but that is just me. Wouldn't a chess grandmaster get bored quickly only playing against, well, me?) On the other hand, if you want a really hard game that makes Cthulu look like a fluffy kitten, I can recommend Ghost Stories..Version: 1.2

Super tense board game with great productionI got hooked on this a couple of years ago. Recently started playing again, and you guessed it - hooked again! The margins of success are tight and you need to take some risks, assessing your probability of success. The art is lovely and overall the conversion has been handled really well. Big thumbs up!.Version: 1.5.0

ExcellentThis is a fantastic implementation of the board game!.Version: 1.5.0

AwesomeOne of the best games I have played on the iPad. If you're equivocating on purchasing this or not, think of the game like Clue meets sudoku then throw the randomness of a dice or card game on top of that. Not in that the game is about numbers, but the logic behind sudoku is what I'm referring to. You have to plan out moves, saying "ok, I have to save that midnight effect for the next guy because this girl isn't so good with skull icons and he is". This is a really fun game that takes a few tries to understand, but once you do you'll want to play again and again. If I could change the game in any way, it'd be to add even more adventures and heroes (shut up and take my money =] ... I'll buy any expansion you want to give if they're as quality as the Cthulhu one) and don't make me retype my name every time I get a high score. That is getting annoying. Oh and an idea for a hero I had: a backstabber who can take one inventory item from other heroes once a turn. You can have that idea for free, and if you need a name, William is a good strong name. =] Otherwise, great game and well worth the money..Version: 1.2.7

Great game!Very high quality reproduction of the board game. Have had zero crashes. Highly recommended to any board game fan!.Version: 1.0.1

Brilliant!!!Excellent, just like playing arkham horro but with no fuss, very polished, and its not easy to beat. Would love to see expansions for this and maybe tannhauser? Thanks ffg great port to the electronic media. Oh im glad it hasnt got mp, it would take too long for a turn, with wifi connections etc, you can of course just pass around your mates if you want..Version: 1.0

Good gameReally enjoyed this version of Elder Signs. Good fun alone or with friends..Version: 1.1.3

Lost my sanity rollThe first time I played the game got stuck because it needed me to discard a glyph to move on, and I only had a locked glyph left so that is the end of the game right there. But after playing a bunch of times i haven't gotten it to misbehave that way again. I have been playing some version of this game since the very first board game, that looked like a gothic version of shoots and ladders. There were events like: if you win your roll, you chew your own hand off, if you lose, your hand comes alive and kills you. The new harder god and encounters remind me of the original game. If only there was a way of cheating.....Version: 1.2

Great for Arkham horror fans! This is a wonderfully scaled down version of Arkham Horror! While I would have given it five stars if it was a complete re-creation, fans of the board game should certainly pick this up. I would love to see more board game to iPad translations from Fantasy Flight, Tide Of Iron being the first on my list! Good job Fantasy Flight!.Version: 1.0.5

Exactly like boardgameAmazing conversion from the boardgame, it play great and never crashes on a ipad2. One little complain i wish i could choose the elder i get to fight. Only Azatoth is there by default. I love better the boardgame version when friend are over, but when am alone this app is amazing...now could fix my complain..Version: 1.0

Absolutely perfect game!!!I really enjoyed playing it on iPad. During these 3 days Since the time of purchase, I have played it nearly a hundred times. It is really addicting. I am definitely going to buy the physical game as well..Version: 1.5.0

Allot Of Fun!Great game that incorporates some of what the board game has. Mechanics are easy to pick up and easy to teach others. Just a heck of allot of fun. I too hope that Fantasy Flight will digitize more from their incredible games library as their is a big market for these games..Version: 1.0.1

Excellent, with only minor flawsUpon the recommendation of a friend, I picked this up earlier today. Having gone through and completed all three of the scenarios, I must admit, I've never had more fun losing my sanity while sealing away eldritch horrors of the deep. There are some notable flaws that cost me a few extra sanity points, though. Specifically, the portal is just a touch too slow to respond when working through tasks quickly, and the disjointly modal UI leads to a couple problems in content being obscured on the screen (for example, when a player is checking their inventory on the Adventure selection screen). I also had great difficulty finding gems on the Cthulhu campaign during Adventures (I assume this is deliberate and RNG-related), and I noticed that while Sister Mary may notably ignore the glyph locks from Ryleh, she failed to ignore locks in some cases where multiple monsters locked the same glyph. I would presume that while the former pair are features (making her the intelligent choice for a trip to see Old Uncle Cthulhu), the latter is probably a bug. Overall, I am quite pleased. This build cries out for more of the Ancient Ones found in the box set, and I hope they, along with additional content and expansions, break the seals that bind them sometime soon. Brill AppLove it and works well. Old iPad died and missed it. Now got new one, so good to get back on the game!.Version: 1.4.3

Great artworkChallenging and unique..Version: 1.0.5

Good but hardI love this game, don’t get me wrong. But the chances of winning are about one to a million. I never played the board game and I don’t know if it's that hard, but I feel there should be a way to better customize the level of difficulty for each monster. Other than that, the graphics are beautiful, the atmosphere delightfully gloomy and it doesn’t crash anymore. Good game overall, but be prepared to get frustrated with the amount of loosing..Version: 1.5.0

OutstandingElder Sign is my favorite IPad game ever since it came out..Version: 1.5.0

Great gameSeems to work without issues now. Very addictive, polished game - brilliant!.Version: 1.0.1

Hands Down My Favorite iOS BoardgameSo many boardgames that make it onto iOS just don't capture my imagination, but this one's different. Maybe it's the fact that it's cooperative rather than competitive. Maybe it's because winning is so rare that you can enjoy a good game even if you lose. Whatever it is, this one's my favorite, and I'm glad they took the time to update it to 64-bit..Version: 1.5.0

Almost 5 starsThe game has an excellent atmosphere! The gameplay is not so deep, but I am completely satisfied with my purchase. It's like having an Arkham Horror lite in your pocket (or…bag). My two issues (hence not a 5 star review) are: - The game crashes when all investigators go insane. If I quit the app and resume the game, then then game continues on the previous round (which is strange, because I could alter my progress) but it crashes again before going to the next round. - I cannot skip the intermediate short clips: presenting the next player, when the night effects are being applied, or when a new monster appears. At least they should be really easily skip-able by just tapping the screen. And a small feature request: Game Center. I would definitely want to keep track of my score against my friends and in the future to also play with them via the internet!!! Except those issues, it is a game which will definitely keep some of my nights busy - taken in mind that I cannot find company for Arkham Horror… :( I can't wait for more releases of FF like this! keep up!.Version: 1.0.5

Excellent Single Player Strategy Adventure Game!!This is a very well-made and fascinating strategy adventure game for a single player (...made even more fascinating if you are into the creepy crawly Cthulhu Lovecraft saga). It's basically a manipulation of cards, dice and characters who each have their own special abilities. Your mission is to stop an ancient, timeless evil from entering the world. Very, very hard and it just gets harder. It took me about a week to finish the Cthulhu expansion and I was having bad dreams about it during the process! It's a scary, intense, atmospheric and story-based ride with cool art, nice movies and difficult gameplay. The learning curve is about a day and if you like single player story based gaming (I'm a Baldurs Gate type myself...) then you will dig this. Just make sure you have plenty of time to kill because it gets addictive after a while. Just started the Egypt expansion and its been hellishly challenging..Version: 1.4.3

Cool gameVery close to the boardgame. Lots of fun and high replay value..Version: 1.4.2

In the same locationThe characters should be able to give items to others characters in the same location..Version: 1.2.3

Awesome solitaire strategy gameElder Sign: Omens is a solitaire cousin to the popular cooperative board game, Arkham Horror. This version relies on a dice-rolling mechanic to advance through various adventures as the player races to stop the machinations of the evil Elder Gods. Time pressure takes various forms as events unfold, slowing your progress in some areas, but opening other avenues to explore. The player will need to acquire and ration resources as circumstances dictate. Failure is a very real threat; success requires planning, judgment, and just a hint of good fortune. And if you master the base game, the expansions take the challenge to the next level. The iOS adaptation is splendid, with rich visuals and smooth animations, as well as interstitial video to move the plot along. My only minor gripes about the game are the selection gesture, which relies on drags where taps would suffice, and a bug that can lock you out of the UI (if you leave your inventory exposed while the clock ticks forward to midnight). The game would also lend itself naturally to both achievements and leader boards; hopefully Game Center integration will be added in a future update. Finally, it should be noted that a full game takes a while to complete (upwards of an hour, or more for the expansions). Still, the core game is so cool, challenging, and satisfying that I'm giving it five stars easily..Version: 1.3.7

Five Stars Despite a Couple ShortcomingsI'm a big fan of the boardgame, so I was pretty excited at the news of an iPad version being released. As far as gameplay goes this version does not disappoint. The rules have been tweaked a little, but they certainly do not take away any of the enjoyment of the boardgame. The interface is very intuitive and beautiful. It's a real treat to be able to see the artwork in detail as opposed to the fairly small images featured in the boardgame. I daresay the iPad version is a bit more atmospheric because of this. The music also helps in this regard. On to the negatives. This app is in severe need of better explanation of the rules. Coming from the boardgame, it was fairly simple for me to figure out how to play the digital version, but I can see how someone new to the game would be very frustrated. Even a link to rules at the FFG site would be a great addition. Secondly, I'd like to see more GOO's (bosses). There's definitely enough here to keep me busy for a while, but please FFG, let's see some added content. An all around great job!.Version: 1.0

Excellent with one caveat.Got this because we love playing all the Arkham games. This is a fantastic (albeit slightly simplified) version of the board game. We've already spent hours playing it, while doing Airplay on the TV. But therein lies the problem. You'll not I said "we" several times. With the quality and nature of this game, it is an absolute travesty that it doesn't support web/network multi-player. I was so bummed to discover that even the PC version doesn't. We love this game. It is what board game translations should be like. If it simply had web based multiplayer, it would easily be 5 stars and one of the best ipad games I own..Version: 1.4.1

Great iPad Version and Expansions! If you have played the board game version of this, you'll be pleasantly surprised with this version. There are a few rule/mechanic variations than the physical game, but nothing that makes it feel different in any sense. The core game lets you choose/play against four ancient ones with the option of buying expansions at 2.99 a piece. Don't be afraid by other reviews claiming the game is rigged. Trust me when I say this that the developers most certainly wouldn't waste time trying to stack the rolls against you. This game is supposed to be difficult and require some strategy. You will win some and you'll lose some. This game can also be played with others in person. You can select four investigators, so you can pass the iPad around per turn. As for the three expansions, play the core game first and see how you like it. I absolutely love the expansions because they give you a fresh new take on the game, adding new gameplay objectives and definitely more challenges..Version: 1.4.2

FantasticEven if you are not a fan of HP Lovecraft and Call of Cthulhu fantasy games. This is a well crafted and absorbing game, full of challenges and variety..Version: 1.4.3

Yeah Baby!Love this game but started to lose interest. Can't wait to try expansions. Truely awesome game that's challenging and has great artwork.Version: 1.1

Nail BiterIncredibly suspenseful board game adaptation. Send your team of investigators into a museum that is a hotspot for the return of eldritch horrors. The strategy is being able to pick which team members and which items you've gathered are best suited to the available, randomised encounters. Encounters and monsters keep springing up as you go and all the while a doomsday clock is counting down to the return of some dread abomination that will consume all of mankind. Play solo or share with friends. Engrossing and fun..Version: 1.1.3

After all these years...It is still my most loved iOS game. Hands down. Just a beautiful game all around. Fun, difficult, frustrating.....while my family plays the board game too, this version is perfect for the times when I can’t get the kids to play.....absolutely great game!.Version: 1.5.0

Fun Game!Let me preface my review by saying I haven't played the board game. Judged on its own this is a great game to play. The learning curve is a bit steep as there is no undo button if you mess up. The mechanics are simple and the random nature keeps each game fresh. Hopefully they will add more soon though as I'm getting better and not losing that much anymore..Version: 1.0.1

Latest update causes new crashesI absolutely love this app, though it can be frustrating, especially when both the yellow and red dice are locked at the very beginning of the game and two or more locations have midnight effects. I like what the latest update is supposed to bring, but I've experienced a few crashes since installing it. It crashed when I tapped to bypass an investigator load screen. When I restarted the app, it gave me the option to resume the game. However, it also crashed when all my investigators went insane. When I restarted the app, I wasn't given the option to resume this time. I didn't get a score or end game breakdown..Version: 1.0.5

Good, but frequently crashes. This is a very good game, marred only by frequent crashes… It's possible to resume a game after re-launching, but it does get very tedious. I don't agree that it's a waste of money, but it does need fixing ASAP..Version: 1.0.1

Incredibly Well DoneNever played the board game, but love board games on iPad so I picked this up. Really been a pleasant surprise, this game has been polished to perfection. Warning: the game itself is very challenging, you will not win your first game (or maybe even a few after hehe.) But it is fair and it can be won once you understand the rules and gameplay better. Very high quality graphics, music, and never had a crash. Multiplayer would be a good addition, as well as a purchasable expansion. Bottom line though is if you are on the fences and don't mind a good challenge, give this game a shot. It's definitely worth it..Version: 1.0.5

Gorgeous and wonderful version of the gameI love this tabletop game and so I was very interested to see how this would translate over into an app since it is so involved. This app did not disappoint and is a perfect version of the game. I would even say it really clears some extra questions I had about the board game rules up too! It's clean, the graphics are great and it plays easy. I love playing four different investigators and using their abilities. I found it was much easier to almost win. Definitely worth the price!.Version: 1.5.0

An Excellent, Challenging Game! This game is a genuine masterpiece: as someone who loves the genre (and has played CoC for thirty years), I was NOT disappointed, so a big well done to the games designers! Atmospheric, challenging, complex. A lot of people have complained about its difficulty, but (1) the Lovecraft world is meant to be one where humans die a lot, (2) while it may FEEL bad when you've invested an hour in playing to fail, my success rate is about 2/3 on the first ten plays, which is fine, (3) there are LOTS of little tricks to work out to improve your chances, like putting several characters into the same scenario, which ups the number of glyphs you can lock between conjures, and finally 4) don't despair if you end up down at a single character with lots to do: the game dynamic means that they do all the work which means that they can accumulate a lot of clues, extra glyphs etc that would otherwise be distributed amongst many characters, so they become very powerful. The last is seriously nail-biting but if you play it right you can have a seriously heroic ending! Enjoy!.Version: 1.4.3

Oh dearPurchased new old one immediately. Unfortunately, the game won't restore my earlier Cthulhu expansion. Sniff... Looks like a text string bug. So hoping for a fix soon. Otherwise, great game. Thankyou..Version: 1.2

MjumjumjumjumjuWrote a bad review do to a couple of problems. Developers rapidly sorted the problem, thanks got your five stars back..Version: 1.1.3

Great but does crashFirst off, the app seems to want a lot of memory. If you run a lot of apps you will need to reboot your iPad to clear up memory for the game to run. I suspect that the first two reviewers haven't tried rebooting their iPads. The game does crash from time to time and this can be frustrating but the rest of the game is worth the irritation. The game is based on FFG's Elder Signs card game and uses artwork and characters from the wide range of Cthulhu games that FFG produces. The game looks great and the music and atmospheric audio effects really work to create a chilling atmosphere. This is a challenging game and requires a good amount of strategy. You'll need to think to work your way through the game and it clearly rewards thinking. The number of characters, random nature of the task solving and the random order in which monster and adventures appear give the game a lot of replay value. Well worth the cost. hopefully they can get the memory bugs solved to stop,it crashing but its worth it even with the odd crash..Version: 1.0

FantasticThis game is just as good as the board game, but even more atmospheric. Beautiful art, exciting gameplay, it's my favorite iPad game right now..Version: 1.0

Complex but addictingI have never played the TableTop game but this has got me hooked. With complex mechanics, replay value and an excellent art style, it makes me want to play more..Version: 1.4.2

FTAGN !!Playing your first game, you will find it a little bit abstract. But after a while, you will enter its dimension and the atmosphere will take you to very top of the Lovecraft best gaming experience.Version: 1.0.1

Fantasy Flight never failsI have never played the board game version of Elder Sign, but I have played its "big brother" Arkham Horror, and I am a huge fan. Omens is extraordinarily fun to play by yourself or with others, it is intense, exciting, and very streamlined. The Call of Cthulhu expansion is well worth purchasing and is, in my opinion, the most fun of the three game scenarios available. Newbies to the franchise, be aware: this game, like its big brother Arkham Horror, is meant to be challenging, and can often be frustratingly so. You will not win every time. It took my friend (a veteran tabletop gamer, like myself) and I 15 attempts to defeat Cthulhu, but every attempt just made us want victory even more. If you don't deal well with spine-crushing adversity, you will not like this. Even Yig's Anger (the easiest scenario) can throw so much oppression at you that your only option is failure. This game is meant for people who love a challenge. That being said, this game easily lives up to Fantasy Flight Games' standard of excellence. It will take a game or two to learn, but it is well worth it. For best results, play with a partner..Version: 1.1.3

Great game and now stable!*UPDATED AGAIN* FFG has done a great job updating the app and adding new content. I have been very impressed by their efforts. Can't go wrong with free content updates! Love the new free as well as the new in app purchase campaigns. They really add some new dimensions to what was already a fun game. I would love for a retina update for the new iPad, to support the enhanced graphics, though that certainly won't stop me from enjoying the game immensely. Certainly hope that this App is only an Omen of good things to come! *UPDATED* I went ahead and deleted everything I said about the game crashing, FFG did a great job updating the game very quickly and seem to have added a lot of stability. I have had no crashes since the update and am very very happy with the quick fixes. This game is definitely 5 stars and worth the price. They did an excellent job porting this board game title to the iPad. Like I said in my first review, if the game were fixed it would deserve 5 stars, and it delivers. The audio/visual experience is well thought out and very good looking. An excellent job was done stream lining some of the game elements for the iOS devices. I only hope that the good customer reaction inspires FFG to port more of their titles to the iOS devices, because I will certainly continue to follow them!.Version: 1.1

Awesome game, Great presentationLove it as much as the physical board game. Fun solo or with friends with great artwork and theme.Version: 1.2.7

For the love of Cthulhu, let us skip cutscenesOtherwise, the best game on iOS. Period.Version: 1.5.0

Tricky gameThis is a fun little game however fantasy flight games tend towards a longer duration than some might be used to, and a point of difference to other games on the iPhone/iPad is that your characters will die easily. My advice is to take it easy at first and play a single character like Joe diamond and then branch out into the other characters. the supplied help file is not as clear as it should be, remember to browse the rooms before entering to get the elder signs you need. Killing monsters is a bit easier than beating a whole room. Good luck!.Version: 1.0.1

ExcellentThis game is amazing. You need to balance probability and luck to win. Very fun. Was a bit easy but with the new patch it is just perfect. Note that installing the patch will reset your high score though..Version: 1.1

Great gameThis game is great. The odds are stacked against you but that is the nature of the game. You get a real feeling that unknown forces are trying everything in their power to thwart you. No joke I played this game while lying in bed and ended up dreaming I was playing it... Now that is messed up!.Version: 1.3.3

Great game!Great game with very smooth interface for the iOS. I haven't played the board version, but this implementation is incredibly streamlined. I highly recommend it..Version: 1.4.1

More expansions pleaseLove this game I need to get the physical copy next. I own quite a few Fantasy Flight Games. Thanks for updating to 64bit..Version: 1.5.0

Great atmosphereI actually feel really uneasy when playing this which is great. The overall quality of this app is very high ranging from the beautiful artwork to the slick interface. The dice rolls do feel like the dice gods are out to get you. Of course there are items and skills to help improve your odds but even then sometimes things clearly won't go your way. Still...losing is fun and it feels nice to improve your high scores..Version: 1.2.7

Would be perfect if it let you skip cutscenes or had online multiplayerHaving online multiplayer would be nice, but not being able to skip cutscenes by clicking on them or hitting an X or something once you’ve already seen them is really annoying. I know you can disable them completely but then if I ever run into a new ending or midway point for a dlc mission I’d miss out on a new one. And chance of this changing?.Version: 1.5.0

Great fun and very hard!Love the atmosphere in this game!.Version: 1.2.3

Excellent GameCool game with nice special effects. Play is fluid and very addictive. Well worth the money..Version: 1.0

Make a difficulty settingThe game is good but it's to hard play l've lost like 18 times so can you make a difficulty settings for causal and hardcore players so can you do that for the next update please?.Version: 1.3.0
