No Sound?!This is a great game but for whatever I have no sound. I have tried reinstalling but nothing seems to work other wise this is a 5 star game..Version: 1.4.3

DisappointingAs a board game this is great - as an app it is appallingly unbalanced. Luck is the only factor here when it comes to winning this game. Don't waste your money on this like I did..Version: 1.0.1

1.1.3 clearly NOT working with DLCHaving previously loved this app, and having bought and paid for all of the in app purchases (particularly the Call of Cthulhu add-on), you can imagine my disappointment on finding that the app no longer registers my purchase of CoC and wants me to buy it again. Jog on! This is intensely annoying and as such I cannot recommend the app to anyone at this time. God knows when this will be fixed, or if I will be able to get a refund. The app store's great right up until you hit a problem like this, then - boom! - you're on your own. A terrible shame..Version: 1.1.3

If you haven’t played the physical game, do not buy this! This app is one of the worst board game adaptations I’ve ever seen. No tutorial, no tool tips, really no indication that the ‘glyphs’ you ‘summon’ are dice being rolled. No convenient reference showing which dice have how many of each result. I had to read about 20 pages of digital rule book to even guess at how to use the UI, and even then, things like items you can buy in the shop appear as plain icons with no text description of what they do until after you buy them. Really wanted to like this game, and have given it multiple tries..Version: 1.5.0

Won’t openLoved this game but now it won’t open. Hoping it gets fixed....Version: 1.5.0

Do not buy this gameWhile almost everything is excellent about this game- graphics, style, music, interface and more- it is simply to hard. I bought the game dismissing the reviews as people just not being good enough (yes I apologise for sounding like a douche) but the game is so stacked against you that winning is not skill it's luck..Version: 1.2.7

Good game but RNG is BSI know luck happens but this luck seems manufactured..Version: 1.5.0

This game will laugh in your sad face as you fail.Great art and atmosphere. Very addictive. However, only play this game if you have a masochistic streak. You've GOT to self hate because the Azothoth and Cthulhu levels are beyond difficult. Most gamers like imagining that they are being faced with challenges that could send them to the asylum and don't want to play a game that could ACTUALLY put them there. When the text in the screen shot above (at the time of this writing) says "Test your sanity" THEY'RE NOT LYING!!!! "Challenging" is not even the word. Sometimes you'll have as little as 5 glyphs that you have to, by chance only, match precisely with 5 glyphs... IN ORDER!!!! What?!? And that's on Azothoth level. The Cthulhu level is harder. The chances of getting that hand in glyphs is like winning the lotto, but theres no money to be won. And when a penalty at midnight event appears exactly AT midnight, and you still have to pay the penalty, the iPad becomes very light in my hand and comes dangerously close to being launched and shattering against the wall. Games are only fun when there is some chance of winning, or unlocking cool stuff. I finally beat Azothoth and unlocked one puny character after all of that. The nearly impossible Azothoth must be defeated again and again and it seems that all hope is lost. A fun play but the win/lose ratio needs some work..Version: 1.1

Rp gameWaste of money!.Version: 1.5.0

BlahMight be fun for fans of the boardgame. But not easy to learn, and taking away the tactile fun of rolling dice makes it less fun than it otherwise is. Also not an intuitive game to learn to win. Will require dozens of plays before strategies become apparent. More time than most will want to invest. I own dozens of FF board games and have played boardgames-to-apps I love like neroshima hex b/c the app is better, or at least as good/fun, as the original. This is not. Again, it will likely appeal to fans of the cooperative boardgame especially those who play solo. For me, a wasted 6 bucks. FF, an in-game tutorial would definitely be helpful to noobs. Videos and encyclopedic rules just don't do it. If I want something I must to study to learn, I will choose a boardgame with rules that are handy..Version: 1.4.2

Stacked against youThis game has lovely art and a decent interface but, damn, are the odds stacked against you! Fighting the easiest monster (normal) sees you getting battered over and over again, I haven't even come close to winning a game after several hours of play. I suspect the dice rolls are very slightly loaded against the player, you always seem to get exactly what you don't need after what you did need has been coming up multiple times when you didn't want it. Plus the random spin in Lost and Found manages to land on the 2 damage results a bit more often than the 2-in-6 chance would warrant. I like a challenge but a constant drubbing is tiresome. Please make the difficulty spread a bit broader by adding an easy or more realist 'normal' foe. Or at the very least change the dice results algorithm as it is a little suspect in my opinion.Version: 1.2.7

Very very hard, even when you know the game.I have owned this board game for over a year and played MANY games with friends, and a few solo. This version is beautifully constructed in all ways, but MUCH harder to beat than the board game. Some of the rules and play are different too but not in a bad way. Anyone not knowing anything about the board game is going to struggle. So three stars - one deducted for the difficulty and another for not updating this. Come on FFG!.Version: 1.3.7

Play Balance?Way back when the Earth was still cooling game designers had a concept called play balance, with the goal of making the game challenging and interesting without being frustrating. Apparently those days are gone. This game is too random, like a Vegas slot machine, with advanced challenges thrown at the player at any level and often in the very first turn. The result is that you can have a lot of experience with the game and think through every move and still get sandbagged early. Not fun. Been a Mythos fan since the age of ten..Version: 1.5.0

Should have been iPhone/iPad universalThe gameplay screens are IDENTICAL in every way except for the higher resolution graphics. I have been playing the iPhone version on my iPad this week and can attest to the fact. There has been no change to any of the graphics, including the death or insanity animations. The cut scenes are also IDENTICAL to the iPhone and iPad versions. These appear to have been mastered in one resolution to run on both devices. So what do you get for your extra dollars? A VERY attractive version of the game running in an appropriate resolution for the larger iPad screen. That's it. There are no other benefits to be had from buying both versions. Scores are not centralized through Apple's game centre so you end up with different score sets on both devices. It would have been more considerate for FFG to release both iPhone and iPad versions on the same day so that prospective customers could pick a preferred version at the time. Spreading the two releases over the week encouraged fans of the game into buying one version, then the other. Bear in mind too, that Australian customers were gouged an extra 50cents per app. When our dollar is near, or slightly over parity with the greenback, this just adds insult to injury. All this has done for me is to make me very wary of future software releases from FFG. I will more likely not be an early adopter, in order to avoid unnecessary expense. Just for the record, I own the physical copy of the game too, and I paid full Australian retail for it. It is an excellent product, like most of FFGs catalogue of games..Version: 1.0

This game is broken on iPad 2I love Fantasy Flight, but they are prone to doing some sloppy work, especially when it comes to their rule books. However in this case the problem is that the app randomly quits out all the time. Also, I don't know if they were trying to re-create the atmosphere and sense of doom from Arkham Horror that is brought about by the difficulty of the board game. However I feel in this app they have gone a little to far, I like a challenge in a game but this is just stupid and seems more like bad coding used to random the symbols, more often than not they don't even change at all. If you a fan of Arkham Horror or Mansions of Madness, then checkthis out, but don't ever expect to win lol.Version: 1.0.5

Not a RPGNot a RPG, people. Very disappointed as I loved the other COC RPGs apps. Very expensive for what it really is..Version: 1.3.7

ImpossibleThis game could be great, the graphics are good, the opening video is fine to watch once but upon multiple games is annoying and you can’t get rid of it without disabling all videos. Now the real problem of this game is that it’s almost impossible to win, I have played over and over and it’s heavily bias towards the computer winning. The upshot is that it gets frustrating and pointless, and seems largely to be down to sheer luck rather than any skill. Could be a whole lot better..Version: 1.5.0

Constant crashing on original iPad.I seriously doubt that this game was tested on the original iPad. Of the five games I've actually finished, the average crashes per game is 8. I've rebooted, cleaned the memory so that I had a maximum of over 100mb free on the iPad, and still nothing will keep this game from constantly crashing. It's a shame that more time was spent developing the app, since the game itself is really, really good. Though right now, trying to run the app is turning out to be insanely more challenging then the game itself. More quality control is definitely needed. I own many boardgames from Fantasy Flight, and just hope that they can put as much quality into their future apps as they do with their boardgames..Version: 1.0

Fix the dice roll generator!!!The game has an eerie feel to it, the music adds to that, even if it has been used in other games. The game made me go out and buy the board game, which is far superior all because of one thing... The dice roll generator. Like other reviews point out, it just seems awfully coincidental that you can't seem to get the die you need to win most of the time. In the board game you stand a much better chance rolling what you need. This game makes you feel the odds are stacked in the games favor. If you want to do that, make it a game mode. Fix the dice roll generator and this will be a much more fun game. As is I hardly play it and would never consider the expansion..Version: 1.4.2

More carrots, fewer sticks please. So I've played this maybe 30 times. I've only won twice. Once on easy, once on normal. This is not fun. It is mainly based on luck. It looks amazing and the gameplay is smooth but it's just not a good time. Once things start going south and you've lost investigators and you don't even have enough dice to complete an adventure there is really no point in continuing. There comes a time in all games when you have to decide if it's worth your time. The challenge vs. fun ratio is not in the player's favor so I'm going to delete this one and move on. Too bad really. I'd stick with it if it dangled a few more carrots in easy reach..Version: 1.4.3

Unfortunately, it's boringI am a fan of Lovecraft world and the artwork and tone of game is great. But let down by gameplay - the adventures are super repetitive and no distinction between them other than artwork and title; game is very luck based with little skill element so fun wears out quickly; bit of a learning curve to understand gameplay system (not mechanics, as its luck based) and no real reward for getting it. I enjoy FFG, Talisman is great and I hoped for much more with this one..Version: 1.4.2

Good but frustratingExcellent graphics and background music create a suspenseful atmosphere, but the slot machine-like play for the glyphs (needed for completing tasks) is frustrating, and feels entirely too random. I would like to give the game a higher rating; I'd like to play it more, but the randomness of the glyphs is what hurts the game in the end..Version: 1.2.3

Core game fun, Cthulu expansion notI enjoyed the core game, though the sensation of have the dice roles literally taken out of my hands makes it feel like the devs subtly stacked the deck against me. Some VERY "coincidental" dice roles always seem to pop up at the worst possible times, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The Cthulu expansion on the other hand feels down right rigged. No matter how much of a beat down I've given Cthulu's minions in the museum, I ALWAYS get trounced in the second part, in the Pacific. Funny how a midnight effect seems to crop up after my fourth investigator has completed his turn, giving me NO opportunity to respond before getting hit with some crippling effect, like "Doom +2", which of course seems to happen jut after the "Doom +2" Cthulu effect. To make matters worse, the explanation for how that second part works is fuzzy. I know I sound like I'm spewing sour grapes and I'll be the first to admit that I have presented just one person's opinion, so buy it and play it if you want, just don't consider it a viable replacement for the board game..Version: 1.4.2

Desperately needs a tutorialI want to like this game but as is it is unplayable. The instructions/help are useless. The developer needs to add a tutorial. I've tried half a dozen games and have absolutely no clue how to even play..Version: 1.5.0

No, absolutely not funI like the Cthulhu mythos and normally enjoy these types of games, but definitely despise this game. The slot machine quality of gameplay on normal difficulty felt rigged in a weak effort at simulating the kind of challenging play that is traditional to games in the mythos genre; I did not bother to experience the undoubtedly more extreme rigging that must take place at higher difficulties. Wow, am I disgruntled over the wasted money on this fraudulent experience. Thankfully I didn’t throw away any more on in-game expansions. 👎.Version: 1.5.0

Bug not fixedThe bug that was supposed to be fixed still occurs when playing the expansion. After entering the ocean scenario and playing a few rounds the game froze. When the game was closed and resumed the game had not saved properly... This is really disappointing to say the least..Version: 1.1.3

In principal an OK game butThe odds seem so completely stacked against the player as to make the game no fun at all. I will soon give up and delete it..Version: 1.2.3

Too shallow for ArkhamAs a fan of Arkham Horror I thought this would be an abbreviated and portable version of AH. However, it is not even deep enough to be considered "Arkham Lite". It is essentially Cthulhu Slots. With 95% luck involved, the strategy consists primarily of choosing the correct character for the correct mission. The professor goes to lore heavy rooms while the gangster goes to skull heavy rooms. The weapons, items, and spells are all the same dice. No variations exist except for food giving you health back etc. Basically you just spin til you win...or lose. This could have easily been rehashed into a thousand other themes and been Star Wars Dice or Warhammer Roll Battle or Lord of the Rings War of the Six Sided Cubes...but in the end it is just mindless rolling. The dice mechanics are fun in the way that checkers or tic tac toe are fun. The theme is mildly amusing for the first few playthroughs. But I would have figured his would be free or at most 99 cents. Save your money and get table top simulator on steam. You can get all the Fantasy Flight Games for free and then some..Version: 1.4.3

Too difficultWay too hard. Removes all the enjoyment of playing to constantly have the dice stacked against you. Shame, the board ham version is fun.Version: 1.4.3

Too difficultCould be a great game but is far too difficult, why make it this hard on the easiest setting? Makes it pointless having difficulty settings if it's too fu###ng hard on the easiest one..Version: 1.4.3

Flawed, but better on the iPadI scored this lower on the Mac, but the intimate natureof the iPad makes the lack of multiplayer much less glaring and the touch interface works much better than the mouse interface on the desktop. Also, videos and tutorials being broken by multitasking is less an issue. That said, this game has the same basic gameplay issue that it has on other platforms: sheer randomness. While there are places you can apple some strategy, randomness determines the outcome y fat more than any other factor. In face, the gameplay could best be likened to a slot machine: pull the lever and find out if you won. Still, the beautiful presentation is worth something. If you simply must have this game, the iPad port is probably the best method..Version: 1.0.1

Balance is offFirst let me say this is an awesome game. The app version is very well done as well. Where I fault it is, the game can swing to not your favour very quickly. I had the game advance doom by 6 in just one turn. That is over half required to lose the game. Something like that should not happen. It takes the back and forth struggle out of the game. Too bad as this could be epic fun every game..Version: 1.5.0

Terrible GarbageThe teaser images declare: "Test Your Sanity"... no kidding. This dull, random, painful experience will also test your patience. I had hopes that the world had finally made a decent Lovecraft-themed game. Doing so shouldn't be difficult, but alas, this is yet another disappointment. In attempting to improve upon the dreadful boardgame counterpart, Arkham Horror, the app only succeeds in streamlining the pain, distilling it to a pure form. After wading through the quagmire of instructions, gameplay basically boils down to a single button tap, which produces a hopelessly random result. It's like fending off a horde of zombies by playing Russian Roulette. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!????? Beautiful graphics, and the fact I can't rate zero stars, are the only reasons this gets a single star..Version: 1.1.3

Too Hard = No FunI enjoyed the game when it first came out but it was impossible to win. I enjoy a challenge but it is NO FUN losing all the time. I'm not an elite gamer, but I'm not that bad either. Then they came out with a "normal" campaign and I had fun. It gave me a challenge but I usually could beat it. Again, that's fun. A few months back came another campaign and here we go again, VERY HARD. Not just hard but VERY hard. Now yet another campaign and guess what?!! I wish the developers would realize they would reach a lot more casual gamers if they offered selectable difficulties are at least offter something other than VERY HARD. Very hard is too hard. Maybe I'm the only one but I won't buy any of the added content because of that..Version: 1.2

If you don't have good luck, well, good luck to you...This game does a great job capturing the oppressive sense of hopelessness in both Arkham Horror and the larger Lovecraftian universe. But holy cow, it doesn't feel like Cthulhu hates you so much as the game when character after character loses a whole slate of glyphs hoping in vain to get just one clue token and it doesn't happen. Oh, and another thing — I've played for an hour and the game has crashed to desktop six times. I hope a fix is in the offing soon..Version: 1.0.1

Unbalanced and random.Great graphics and sound and looks much like the board game (which I love), but this game is largely all about random dice rolls which are nearly impossible to win much of the time. Not only must you roll certain results (glyphs) but you must often roll them in a specific order and a lose a die with each try. It would be nice if some more strategy were involved and it was less like a slot machine..Version: 1.4.3

Used to be 5 star but now has a major flawI thought this app when it first came out and was one of my firm favourites until the 64 bit upgrade. Since then you are forced to sit through the introduction video every time you start the game, which gets very tedious. Would it be possibility to have the ability to skip this again, please?? Aside major glitch aside, Elder Signs is still a fantastic app..Version: 1.5.0

CrashesSeems like a neat game, but I can't really tell as it's crashed 5 times in ten minutes. Not worth $7..Version: 1.0.5

Most frustrating gameThis could have been an awesome game if it was at all possible to win. I know it is a game of chance but I can honestly say there is no chance of winning, the odds are unfairly stacked against you. It is not worth the money or the frustration. The board game would be more enjoyable..Version: 1.3.3

Too Difficult to be EnjoyableFirstly the iPad implementation - this is excellent, maybe a little bit unclear what you have to do at first, but in all a faithful and well executed version of the board game. Also it takes away the monotony of managing the myriad of tokens that you get in the board game. The big problem I have is with the board game itself. It is simply too hard. I have only played it at the simplest level, but in the many times I have never won. Heavens knows what the two higher levels are like. Okay, it's good to have a challenge, but the problem here is that I have never come close. Games like Forbidden Island and Pandemic are difficult to win but each time you come pretty close which keeps the tension and excitement up till the very end. With Elder Sign most times I am part way through with a feeling that continuing is pointless because my characters are so close to dead or insanity yet I have so few Elder Signs collected. If you don't have enough time but fancy a quick game, try this as a simulation. Throw 5 D6 dice. If you get 5 sixes than well done you have won. Otherwise you have lost. I have plenty of other games that are difficult to beat but because they let you get tantalisingly close each time I keep coming back for more. With Elder Sign though, I am fast losing interest. Nigel.Version: 1.1.3

Pretty, but very crashyVery nice looking game, but it crashes often and takes a long time to load after crash. Th combination means I have wasted $7. Please fix..Version: 1.0

Fun....butOk so this is a fun game but it is massively...massively...massively stacked against you. There is a small amount of skill and concentration required but the majority of the game is based on what Elder Signs you get and what order they appear in, which is randomly determined by the game. Not a bad game but could be better..Version: 1.2.3
