✓ Could be better, much betterGraphics Fantastic, the motion of the players looks real, like they used motion capture. It is easy to get caught up watching and rooting for your troops. Story Pretty simplistic, a little weird how much this brother and sister love each other, but maybe it's just me. Sound Standard fare, nothing shocking. Whatever is good is offset by the horrible over reading of the story text. My wife is Japanese, and she said this dramatic style is typical in story reading, but as an American it is over the top, and the Japanese accent seems forced. I disliked the execution on this. Gameplay This is where it could use improvement. Can't see all that much of the field at one time, and to recruit troops you have to touch the building you placed. This means that you have to swipe a few times back to the home camp, wait for the troops to be recruited, and then place them. It really is cumbersome, and timing is important for moving. Moving is also a pain, where the troops automatically stop to attack a building but don't continue. Can't go backwards, so you better be in the right row because you and only move left and right after the movement bar refills, painfully slow. It's cool to upgrade troops and the super general powers. Troops deployment is painful too. Can't move through your own buildings, placing is limited to your 40% of your field. Nice game, but poor execution at key points..Version: 1.4

✓ Very F*^>€*'g FrustratingThe main game mode is great so the campaign and the story line are very good allowing you to progress and grow in talent and equipment the game I've been looking for entertainment I like to play skirmish games as well.... But these are just WAY TO HARD even on normal setting.... You cant set up before your over whelmed, you attack and they produce new troops behind you and attack your base and you can't move units backwards... Units of the same type fight but yours get slaughtered in seconds... It takes to long to collect resources even when I've fully upgraded the gold mine so lose your units and cant replace them but the enemy simply multiply and wipe you out, they seem to have access to units/structures I don't that kill you from other side f the board, and you deploy your very limited and expensive troops and all of a sudden 10 Emmy units walk right past you as you cannot produce enough to defend your base because the map too small... Skirmish is just not a fair fight... I'm not saying I always want to win and it be easy but fair and possible please.... I tried it on shogun just to see how hard it really could be I had not even been playing 10 seconds before I was attacked and only deployed my citadel... Come on please give us a chance!! ✓ Too hardI like this game- it is fun and exciting to play. I just wish there was an easier difficulty setting! Even on the easiest setting you always feel rushed and never seem to have time to properly plan your defence or attack. On the back foot from the start. ✓ Scam - keep your moneyI paid full price for this app, but after the first two or three tutorial missions, the game becomes nearly impossible to beat ! You have to spend "experience" which you can only earn a ridiculously small amount of, before facing missions that are impossible to beat. But the developer, Sega, makes sure you're aware that you can BUY more "experience", to get the upgrades needed to have a fair chance of beating the game... Sega wants you to shell out another 20 to 30$ to have a playable game !!! (The first ten dollars wouldn't be enough to make it a fair fight) This is outrageous and should not be encouraged. Sega isn't the respectable game company it used to be in its glory days... Furthermore, the game mechanics are much closer to a slow version of Plants vs Zombies than a decent and somewhat rich and deeply layered strategy game. In short : look elsewhere or be ready to pay 25$ to 35$ for the actual game. (Also the campaign is probably quite short as well from what I can tell). personally I'd rather buy a platinum console game for that price, or at least a game that has a high replay value. ✓ Massive TW fanI was delighted to see that final there is a total war app. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it - I feel so cheated. Whilst I play this quite a bit (hence 2 stars) the fact of the matter is that its so far from the pc game in the the action is very one dimensional and doesn't allow the creative, strategic game play we have come to love. Some of the levels are more like puzzles rather than a war game which left me feeling like I wish I hadn't paid for it. I have recently got another another app, autumn dynasty, which has surpassed my expectations of what I thought this game would be. The multiplayer is again, one dimensional, and leaves you wanting. I'm sure using the same engine as the original shogun total war would have/could have been used as a platform for an app development. Ths apps follows similar characteristics however feels more like its third cousin, once removed. The one that no one talks to at parties, or gets too drunk and people avoid them. I would happily pay for another attempt as I love the total war series soooo much, but in this case I'll not be playing it again. ✓ Looks great, poorly designedAwful game design. Game difficulty regulated by having to do levels without certain units that you'd won in previous battles. Stupid 'building placement' puzzles made harder by not showing which hexes are already taken, and by terrain features blocking some hexes. I want my $2 back. ✓ Fun, but I'll reserve 5 stars for when it's FinishedThis is a really great game, it's fun and challenging at the same time, which is a balance not many games achieve. Whilst it is technically a real time strategy, I also agree with other reviews in that it's not such a game in the context we would expect. It is simply a line defence game. Think a Japanese version of Trenches, just with far less manoeuvrability. Furthermore, the absence of a skirmish mode really dampens its longevity, as after the 5 hour (at most) campaign is over there really isn't anything to encourage you to replay. So yeah, it's a great game, but I wouldn't have released it as it is. With the skirmish mode and more campaign (play as enemy?!) it would definitely be 5 stars and worth the slightly outlandish figure of £4.99 (again, when compared to the likes of Trenches)..Version: 1.1

✓ DullLooks and sounds great, ... but the gameplay itself is really dull. First of all there's a pointless puzzle element at the start of every mission. You have to line up buildings in a tight space with rules about which can go next to what. Why?? And more importantly, why must I sit through this over and over? Then there's the combat part. It's not flat-out irritating like the puzzles, but it's hardly engaging. You send your troops wandering off to the right. And occasionally tell them to stop. You can never tell them to go left. And they can't even turn to fight someone just next to them but slightly behind. Deep strategy it ain't. A side note: it seems like the makers want you to spend your way to the end of the game, if you can't win. You can buy points which you spend on upgrades to buildings etc, which makes it easier to beat levels. I disapprove of this ... in fact I wish I hadn't given them the initial price of the game..Version: 1.1

Well, they don't care, you STILL are forced to be online to play the game in any way. Every time I tried loading the game up without being online the game immediately crashed. ✓ Online connection required?? Or what..First I will start with how much I enjoy the play style. The units and building have very unique and enjoyable art style. The combat animations make the combat all the more exciting as one would expect from a portable TW title. Unit movement and placement is all the challenging with the "no step back" play-style. The down side is game progress seems to get lost when not connected online. The story and hence your progress limits units you are able to use. Therefore only a few battles allow for all unit combat. $6.99 is a fairly high price for an app but I felt it was and still is worth it. But the addition for in app purchases for experience cheapens the title IMO. All this feature does is point to greed. I would very much like to see wifi or online multiplayer as the current single device version dumbs down the game. What I don't want to see is people having an unfair (I bought my exp) online matchup with exp bonuses. This is a good start but I feel if EA wasn't involved leaching every $$ possible; would have been a much better game. The strat wargame market is rip for the pickings on the IOS. I have bought instant war banner production upgrade with 800 exp but instead of producing immediately, it freezes to zero progressions, not evening progressing to normal rate. Do they start at "crazy difficult" and then just get harder, or what. You can't afford enough units to combat the enemy and what you can buy just get slaughtered. I assume the "solution" is to pay for enough experience to upgrade but as I object to that, on the basis of it being a thieving b'stard approach by the developers, I guess I shall stick with the campaign and consider the game to be incomplete and overpriced..Version: 1.2
✓ DisappointedI have been a fan of the total war series for many years, and when I saw this game come up in the app store I immediately investigated and then purchased. After a couple of days I must say I am disappointed. The game has almost no strategic level play, the vast majority of the game is strictly an tactical level RTS. For fans of RTS, I am sure they will be well served by this game, but I was hoping for a stronger strategic level to go along side the tactical level, much like all other TW titles include. The graphics of this game, and the animation of the characters is outstanding. The plot and voice acting is first rate. The polish of this game is really quite good. The game looks fantastic on an iPad retina display. I felt let down by the game play itself, and the cramped feel of the smallish battle field. I play this game exclusively in a 3rd gen iPad, and don't contemplate ever trying it on an iPhone. It seems as though the developer made this game to work on the smaller screen and in doing so it seems unnecessarily cramped on a larger iPad screen. With that said, the game looks great, and I am sure many will enjoy this game. I am not one of those, despite a real effort on my part, I just could not find any part of the game play to enjoy..Version: 1.1

As soon as the ipad is connected to the wifi it will play. This makes is useless for playing while travelling. Sega sort this error please or i have wasted my money. ✓ A strategy game that requires you spend real money to win!The makers should be ashamed of themselves for producing this product for many reasons but the top two must be to claim this one has anything to do with the total war series and secondly that the game offers no ability to win some levels unless you are willing to spend real world money on the in game unlocks to try to improve your army's skill. I was so convinced the game is a con i set my college students the task of doing some statistical analysis on the hit rates etc. in the game and it appears that as soon as you better your side the enemy gets better too (even when playing the same level post-upgrade) which proves to me what a con actually paying for in game credit is. Why do so many games makers feel they must cheat their customers with fake difficulty factor set-ups and-in game unlocks that do the player no benefit? It seems just to be a money spinning con for the games makers. I have now concined the game in my collection of those I shall no longer play but despite that the makers have really already won as they have my money despite my dissatisfaction with their con of a product. If you cannot win the game and/or levels without paying for the minor benefits of the unlocks why bother with the game at all. Also if it is nearly impossible to earn the unlocks without spending real money that too shows what a con the game is. Utter rubbish and a con to boot!.Version: 1.3

✓ Not badFun play dynamic and a much needed RTS for iPad. The game is engaging and I went through the campaign quickly. The controls are clunky and can take some getting used to. I found myself not caring about the story at all. Seems like they could have gotten more creative with animated cut scenes to make it more engrossing but I guess I understand not wanting to spend the money on that. But I guess I feel a little jaded though that it costs so much to get all the upgrades. Unlike many apps I see in iOS you can't get all the upgrades without spending some money in the in-app store. And it's very expensive to buy the EXP. I'd be more likely to pay if it were more like $5 to get the highest package. I don't mind paying I just think it is overpriced..Version: 1.1

That said, I find that if I start playing a game on my wifi iPad 1 and then continue it once I'm out of wifi range it will always crash. It seems to crash at the end of the next level. ✓ Good but very unstableThis is a great game and would have a five star rating if it worked properly. Unfortunately the game crashes if it is not connected to Wi-Fi therefore if I am on a plane or on a train underground or in any place where there is no connection including aeroplane mode the game crashes. Please release an update as soon as possible to fix this. I play this game most whilst I am travelling so it is extremely frustrating if it doesn't work when signal is lost. This is such an obvious and glaring bug that I am very surprised that the developer has not noticed it. As far as the game is concerned my only criticism is that it feels as though it is leaning slightly towards the pay-to-win model. I like it even less now than I did before to be honest as its a £5 game and to get everything you have to pay for in app purchases which takes the biscuit on what is an allready overpriced app. the good, the bad and the ugly... ✓ Too hardI'm not some incapable 10 year old that's struggled - I'm normally pretty good at these kind of games but it just doesn't give you a chance! The gold required to build troops doesn't come quick enough, and before you have chance to build enough gold producing buildings, you're attacked, so you waste all your resources that you could use to make that building on creating troops to defend yourself. What's worse is that the cost of troops increases over time making it simply impossible to build enough of an infrastructure before you're attacked to be able to win. ✓ I like the game, but...Having only played skirmishes this is my experience so far. I find that the game isn't so much a strategy game as a reaction game. I feel that the Total War folks need to adjust the AI here to give one a least a fighting chance! There's a few things that are a bit annoying about the game, one being trying to figure out the proper placement of the structures. You can use up quite a bit of time doing this and by the time you've got your village laid out you're being over run by waves of opposing samurai from the other village. They completely out produce you and you just can't keep up. Perhaps others have had better luck coping with this but I have not, it just gets ridiculous after a while. I'm not looking for the game to be a roll over, I want a challenge but at the same time I'd like a fighting chance! They also should include some kind of guide so you know what structures do what and what the troop types are etc. Perhaps a training module or something, but it needs something. If they could fix this, the AI gameplay and make it so the village could fit together a bit more easily I would definitely add additional stars. Another thing is the inability to move backwards but thats a minor point. I do give 5 stars for design and overall visual quality, it's a nice looking game and other than the above issues I like it quite a bit..Version: 1.4
