Zombies, Run! 5k Training for Negative User Reviews

Crashes frequently mid workouts. This is the only app that crashes on my iPhone 7+. I've killed the app and restarted my phone several times during the workout. Please fix asive paid for the full app. Unimpressed..Version: 2.1.0

Worried about run planI'm not sure it will train me to be ready for a 5K in eight weeks when the first week is limited to 15 second running intervals and the second week brings it up to 30 seconds.Version: 1.0

DisappointedUPDATE: app crashes and loses my workouts after I finish them. I can’t even fast forward through it again so it can be marked as complete. I just let it go through it again while I go about my business. Annoying AF. The walk/run cues are not working correctly. It was "run for 15 seconds ok great now walk". I ended up counting my own 15 seconds just to do the workout. Has nobody heard of a soft opening? Have people try it and then work out the bugs before you release it? Very disappointed in you all. Get it together..Version: 2.0.7

DRM music failThis would be a good app if I could play the songs I've legally purchased from iTunes. Instead I'm told I need to use iTunes Match because I have DRM restricted songs. The songs that are listed as being "restricted" are from albums I purchased from iTunes, it'll play other songs off the album but the ones listed. Fail..Version: 1.0.2

A little buggy but I can get over itI really enjoy the original Zombies, Run app and decided to buy the 5k app to improve my running as it’s pretty poor. I ended up buying the full version so I could do all of the missions, which I probably wouldn’t have done if I knew it was going to become so buggy after the fourth week. The timer doesn’t always work right, so I’m stuck unlocking my phone to force it to the next segment if I wonder how long it’s been. It’s almost like the game times out and doesn’t give you the prompts to run or walk. Once I turn on my phone though, it will “catch up” and give me ALL the prompts at once. It isn’t normally more than an inconvenience since it removes one cycle from my workout, but my runs routinely go 15-20 minutes over the time they should now, which I have to account for so I’m not late for work in the morning..Version: 2.1.1

Buggy as all get-outI'd love to give this app a great rating, since from what I've heard it's amazing, but it crashes every single time I try to open a mission. At the moment, this app is a complete waste of $2 since I am unable to access anything interesting or useful. Until this is fixed, don't make my mistake. All I can think is, thank god I didn't buy the full version..Version: 1.2.1

Contains more bugs than features. After a third mission where it stopped giving instructions or gave nonsense updates like telling me I'd run 15 seconds when I'd actually run slightly over 60, I'm ready to give up on this app. Whatever fun you get from the story line is completely ruined by having to watch the clock like a hawk so you know when it has stopped working. Buy one of the other 5K training apps instead. You'll very quickly lose confidence in this one..Version: 1.0.2

Great app, shame about priceI love this app and the story has made me really enjoy running. The training seems to really work too as I feel much fitter. BUT I wish it had been clearer from the start that I’d have to pay a subscription to unlock runs after week 3!.Version: 2.6.3

They really bombed this updateEats battery like crazy, timing in workouts is all off, doesn't show workouts as completed, restoring purchases is a nightmare. Don't see why this had to be updated, and I feel like they didn't do any testing before release..Version: 2.0.3

Cannot reach supportTrying to use Zombie 5K training as I purchased Abel Running for 1 year. But I’m unable to get a zombies and or whatever login ID. I can’t send a support message without that ID. Tried to give it my email address now to set it up but it doesn’t work. Tried to do the same and restore purchase as it’s all through the Apple App Store, but it tells me to enter a real email address. It absolutely a real address in working order. This is the only way I hope I can receive tech support..Version: 2.5.2

Disappointing silenceGreat story, however, whilst on the treadmill the story line just went quiet. There were no instructions telling me whether to run or walk. I moved on to workout 1 and was so annoyed that the instructions were pretty much 'okay, go and walk for ten minutes now, we will tell you when it's over'. I really expected a story line during the walking and running sessions to keep me motivated - after all, this is a paid app. I also had to look up instructions for adding a playlist as this wasn't easy to figure out. I'm quite disappointed in this app..Version: 1.1.1

Software Crashes, Run!The little ap that could (but doesn't). I'm onto my final week, and must say this should be an excellent 5 star trainer. BUT it has not been updated since 2014, and it crashes. ALOT. Like some times 4+ times a run. Sure you can start roughly where you let up, but you have to stop mid run, and lose your distance, time and playlist tracking. This is an ap killer - pretty bad for a paid ap! Please update this back to its former glory!.Version: 1.2.2

HmmmMusic didn't play during the running section and every time it told me to run it said walk immediately after, just didn't seem to work properly. Music playlist had some type of error even though its the same playlist I use for Zombies, Run! Hopefully future updates will improve app but great idea and more interesting then other 5k training programs!.Version: 1.0

Where has the completed notification goneEnjoy this running app and now on my fourth week. Helps to avoid boredom of running with the scenarios. However for some reason the app no longer marks up on the screen to show you have completed that run. You have to remember where you are up to otherwise I would have given it a 5 star rating..Version: 2.2.0

Good but needs moreI love the idea of this. However i was a little disappointed. I really wanted a game to play whilst running and it seems more like an audiobook. If I wanted an audio to keep my mind off of the pains of running I would buy an audiobook. What they could do to improve this app is to combine their previous app game of zombie run. Use the maps and location as a tool to make it more interactive. When running away from zombies plot the zombie on your map and have it run after you. If you have to run to a location plot a point on the map to where i have to run to. And as an additional feature you could have an overview of the calories burned and distance per minute like the other running apps have. Once you have these features it would become an AMAZING app. It would be getting the computer geeks like me out and running whilst playing a game not sat on a bed or sofa..Version: 1.0.2

Good Content, Bad AppThe content of this app is really good quality, and really helped me improve my fitness. However, the app itself is awful to use. It’s so slow to open, and almost impossible to scroll across through the training modules. This makes it incredibly frustrating to use, which just makes me want to find another app. I wouldn’t recommend it unless they fix these issues..Version: 2.6.3

Bugs, run!Awesome ideas but keeps crashing, can't finish the first mission..Version: 1.0.2

Okay app overall.I loved this app! I’ve never been a runner. The only time I’ve ever run was in P.E. class in school! I’m 29 now and decided during quarantine to try to be more active. I was supposed to start week 4 today, however I was disappointed when the app asked me to upgrade/purchase a subscription to complete the rest. I’m not looking to pay for a subscription at the moment and was led to believe this app was completely free. I wish I would’ve known they’d ask you to purchase in the middle of the 8 week program. At least, give people 4 weeks then ask us to subscribe and put a clear warning in the first tutorial off the app! Overall, I do thank you for helping me get to where I am at this point..Version: 2.5.2

Full of bugs, run!Not worth $0.99 until serious issues are resolved. -App stops playing for no reason. News to pause and un-pause to wake it up. -music stops playing randomly occasionally kicks back in but then the track will play over itself. -my last run had no soundtrack at all. -timer has issues keeping time so intervals are all off. -compared to the original Zombies Run, content is weak. A shame since content is what drives this product more than functionality. These are a few of the major ones. There are more. Stick with free apps as they pretty much make this one look silly and rushed..Version: 1.0

Would be good... if it worked.I did the intro run and everything ran smoothly. I’m not really into zombie stories but I was enjoying the characters, voice acting, etc. Then I started the Week 1 Day 1 run, and it worked great... up until the very end. Just as I was finishing the run, my entire phone restarted. No data was saved. I was frustrated, but I’d finished the run, so I went on to the next day’s run a few days later. Started the initial walk, and then wondered why the scientist was silent when it had certainly been 10 minutes. Checked my phone to find the app had crashed. I restarted the app and started the run again, but there was no way to skip forward past the parts I’d already completed (a feature in the last C25K app I was using). On top of that, it wouldn’t even finish the intro before the app crashed again. On top of the crashes, the app is an enormous drain on my battery. The previous C25K app I used did not have that problem. It’s a good app in theory... but I can’t use an app that crashes like this. If the devs fixed the crash problems, they’d have a great app, and I’d have fun. But until this is fixed, I’m going to have to go back to my other C25K app..Version: 2.0.9

Great concept if you can get it to workI loved the concept of this. The intro was a lot of fun and I couldn’t wait to get I to it. Tried the first “workout” and it kept freezing up and crashing. Finally got to get through the whole workout and it crashed again, erasing my progress. Decided to just not worry about it and went on to workout 2 on the scheduled day. Crashed twice and here I am now. Really wish I could use it but it’s just not working for me..Version: 2.0.9

Good in concept but doesn’t workThe story is cute and the prompts are good but it won’t save my runs. I complete the audio and it says I’m done, but No matter what I do it says there’s a run in progress if I try to end the run. There’s no way to end and save it. I even left the app open an hour thinking it would maybe end automatically but no. Can the developers let me know what to do to get this saved and track my progress? Thanks!.Version: 2.5.2

GlitchyI was really enjoying this up until week 3. Then the audio became very glitchy and started off halfway through the run. Also on parts through week two the audio would drop out for large parts of the run and then come in all at once. I’ve upgraded the subscription to see if week 4 was any different but it’s not. A great pity as was enjoying the app and feeling motivated to continue. I like the variety and the story. If they fix the app I’d happily give 5 stars as it’s great for what it is. With glitchy audio though, I could give any higher that 2 really. A shame..Version: 2.6.3

Great idea, but will not play music...The app gives you the option to listen to your own playlist, but unfortunately it doesn’t work..Version: 2.0.9

Was great, but not so much nowI really enjoy this app, especially when it started syncing with my Apple Watch and could accurately record my workouts but since the update, it doesn't do that anymore. Disappointing..Version: 2.0.7

Great idea but ruined by bugsThis really is such a good idea and a lot of fun it's a such a shame at the amount of bugs I've encountered. The music player barely works, it randomly stops all the time, on a couple of occasions the instructions stopped as well, forcing me to stop running and restart the app. Often the timings of drills were completely off, I would jog for two minutes and then be informed that I had run for 15 seconds! I wrote to the developers twice but have no reasonable response as yet. This really would be a 5 star app minus the bugs and I hope it can get fixed. Meanwhile I would save the cost and get one of the many free trainers that actually work..Version: 1.0.2

Good training plan despite problems syncingI started the training plan and am really enjoying it. My only complaint is that I lost data from one of my runs bc the data did not save properly. It would be nice to have a feature within the app that lets you log a run after the fact in the event that syncing problems happen..Version: 2.0.9

End of workout is unclear / app freezesDid the intro and Week 1 Workout 1. Neither seemed to end properly. W1W1 final message audio didn’t play. The message when you press stop seemed to indicate I’d lose progress. When I did press stop and continued, the app froze..Version: 2.5.2

Buggy!Intro mission consistently crashes for me on my iPhone 5s as soon as the music starts playing..Version: 1.1.1

Story Stops in the middle of missionsI really enjoyed this app at the start, however am noticing that issues with the app keep repeating. The story/narrative would randomly stop in a middle of a mission and then you wouldn’t know what to do next. The time keeps going but you can’t complete the mission. So then it fails to record that you have completed the mission..Version: 2.6.1

Fun but buggyI've had the audio cut itself off more than once and there's currently no way to replay the unlocked audio tracks to hear what I've missed. This is a pretty big flaw in an app built on telling a story. It's really inconvenient that the only way to hear story elements that I've missed is to do the entire mission over again and I'm not really willing to give up another 50 minutes just because the audio bugged out..Version: 2.0.7

Fun, but buggyThis app is such a great concept! I have enjoyed using it when it worked. However, there are a few persistent bugs in some of the episodes that really need to be fixed--ie, when the prompt is to run for a minute, the program glitches and the minute NEVER ENDS.Version: 1.2.2

No ability to skip ahead.I wanted to like this app. I've had the main one for a few weeks now, and am trying to get back into running after an injury. Pros: - Like the interface, and like the web site (Zombie Synch) Cons: - no ability to skip ahead. This program assumes that you are starting at absolute zero, and that 15s running intervals will be difficult enough for you that you need three sessions to progress. There's no option to jump in at a level more appropriate for where you are at. This will be a giant waste of time for me. - it would be worth it if the runs progressed the Zombies, Run story at all, but they don't. You don't really learn anything about Abel Township, or the history of the zombie apocalypse. You don't even collect supplies you can apply to the main app. - No Zombie chases! This to me was the whole point! Basically, this is a limited 5K training app, where the time cues are given to you by people in their Zombies, Run characters, suitable for people who are total beginners..Version: 1.0.1

Great fitness app, but doesn’t track run distance/speedI absolutely love this app and the original Zombies Run, too. The voice acting is great, the characters are fun and varied and the storyline is quite touching. It really motivated me to get out and run regularly. My only gripe is that the app is waaay overestimating how far and how fast I’m running. I mean, it’s perfectly possible I’m covering 13km with a steady pace of 4minutes30 per kilometre... but then I probably wouldn’t need to do a Couch to 5k program! If they can get the tracking fixed, I would happily give this 5 stars..Version: 2.0.9

Needs some work- but ok so farGiving it a 3 because it crashed- and although it didn't bump me to the very beginning of the run I was still annoyed that I got bumped back to do another sprint that I had just finished. It also recorded my time from when it crashed- it didn't take me 12 min to complete the first round (should have been around 35min)- so it'll be hard to track progress. I would also like to be able to see a generated map of where I ran from my phone. Think it'd be nice to see on a map after... As well as a map to show all completed runs so I can eventually see how much further I got each time. Would also like the app to be more integrated- and not have to log on to website. I will up the stars when these happen. I have a few other integrated work out apps that track progress / make specific recommendations so I know it's not far fetched. I do like it though and haven't given up on it yet. there is room for improvement... but it did get me out of the house early to actively run from zombies, there's also a good story line too- like someone is reading a great book to me ... Takes my mind off of how embarrassed I am trying to run in public ;).Version: 1.0.2

Just want to purchase the 5k app rather than subscribeI have got to week 4 and cannot continue as it is asking me to pay for a subscription, why can I not just pay for the 5k one and then if I I want at the end of the 5k training choose to subscribe to the other app. My wife has the full 5k app open and is not signed up to a subscription. Really disappointed with that!.Version: 2.5.2

Audio glitches spoil an excellent programmeI was really enjoying this until about halfway through week 2 when the audio cues got messed up and started playing in the wrong order. Shame really.Version: 2.6.3

Buggy updateI had been happily using this app without incident, when this morning I tried to use the updated version on my run. It crashed four times in the space of five minutes, leaving me to recreate the planned workout manually. It made me realise how much I've come to rely on this app; please fix the issues with this latest update so I can get back to enjoying it..Version: 1.1

CoolGood game so far. you need to make a place to save the first run (I want to review all of my runs Including the very first intro run.Version: 1.2.2

Great app but keeps crashing!!The app is great but it keeps crashing at random points in my run, then when I reopen it I can’t swipe at all..Version: 2.6.3

Developer doesn’t care that app not workingThis is the response I was given after I notified the developer that the app didn’t fit my screen correctly, I’m running IOS 12.4.1 and it shows compatible with my device in the AppStore, “The app is compatible with iPad and will generally run normally on the iPad, we don't have any plans to change how it displays on larger screens. I'm sorry to disappoint you there.” This is horrible customer service, they obviously don’t care about their app and have no plans to keep developing it. Uninstall. This is latest response from the Developer below, he/she isn’t interested in updating the app to fix resolution for iPads, even though it clearly indicates this app is compatible with iPads, they are asking iPad users to settle for mobile phone screen dimensions on an iPad screen, which is beyond insulting ; Hi, Thanks for getting back to me! The app works fine on iPad. It will still play the audio and track runs. The only difference is that the screen size remains at mobile resolution. All the best, Ciaran.Version: 2.2.0

TemperamentalI was loving this app for the first few weeks then discovered it kept glitching. Sometimes the audio decides not to come back on for a while so your left running or walking far longer than your supposed to. Recently it's crashed completely near the end of my run losing all my data and not showing that particular session as complete. Very frustrating..Version: 2.0.9

It used to be goodUse to really enjoy this app, but it hasn’t worked properly for months — i.e. won’t start, which is really frustrating when you’re trying to get out the door for a run..Version: 2.6.1

You finish the run, but it doesn’t log anythingThis is great for motivation to run. However it doesn’t log the runs and doesn’t give you credit for completing the workouts. You just have to remember which ones you've done. You can’t compare to prior workouts unless you have a fitness tracker or something. It says the gps signal is good, gives me voice cues about how fast I ran each mile, but then when I try to look at my run logs it says I haven’t done any..Version: 2.1.1

Can’t tell if the app is working correctly.I started the first run and heard the story start and the first instructions from the radio operator. I started my run and then... silence. The app never told me anything. I ran for about 26 minutes (the app said the workout takes about 22) and checked my phone. When I opened the app the story resumed. I can’t tell if it was conflicting with my music, which it shouldn’t, or what but it doesn’t say how far or where to go- it will probably let you run forever unless you take your phone out of the running case and ask it what to do next. Expected better..Version: 2.5.2

Do not give access to Apple healthFor the love of god, don’t give it health data write privileges to this app. Multiple times it has completely screwed up my activity data and even beyond that it only decides to actually record that you worked out about once in a blue moon to Apple health (both times it’s done so to me have been when I unfortunately forgot to end my run and it decided to write a 99 hour work out to my health kit which took forever to fix).Version: 2.5.2

BugsIt's a great experience until you reach 4.9k and then the app crashes and you need to restart with no progress saved..Version: 2.0.2

Nice presentation but unbalanced running planThe presentation was good, with a fun story to work through, easy to use menus and good integration of the music library on my phone. I didn’t have any problems with glitches either. What lets the app down is that actual running plan, which is it’s core function. I felt the first 2 weeks were far too easy with a huge ramp up in week three. It also relies quite a lot on ‘free runs’ (where you can choose how much to walk and how much to run) at the end of early sessions. I think other apps have a more consistent difficulty level..Version: 2.1.1

No way to start :(Won’t let me sign up says my accounts invalid when it’s not ever been. It’s really frustrating because this app looked promising. I’m meant to be running for a charity and this looked like good way to train since sometimes I’ll be training alone..Version: 2.1.1

Can’t unlock the runs without subscribingWas really enjoying the app just finished week 3. Was happy to pay £3.99 to unlock the rest of the runs as stated is possible on the AppStore. However seems that option no longer exists and am not prepared to subscribe to a the running club why was the option of unlocking the training on just this app taken away. Was looking forward to completing it such a shame they changed the model and this is not clear on the AppStore which clearly lists the option to unlock all runs.Version: 2.5.2

Complete disappointmentThe prompts stop once the screen locks, it's a serious battery chewer and it pauses any music you're playing on iTunes when the voice prompts play. I'm a gamer and I thought this would be a neat way to get into running. Instead a woman's voice tells you when to run, to 'imagine' a zombie is chasing you. I thought it would have waves of zombies with proper zombie sound effects. Wish I could get my money back on this lame disappointing app..Version: 1.1.1

I was really enjoying this app...However, I’ve just started week 3 and the time announcements are really off putting. It might not seem like a big deal, but when you’re trying to keep pushing yourself to keep running, having, i.e.,every 15 seconds of a 1-minute drill and 2 minutes into an 8-minute free run announced means you lose focus. The hardest part of a run is the middle and when you’re told you haven’t even passed the quarter-way-through mark it’s really tough, mentally, to push through to the end. Please add in options for when the time is announced!.Version: 2.6.1

Great concept but super frustrating deliveryThe story line is awesome and it’s such a fun and interesting idea. However, I’ve had the app freeze and then crash continuously. This wouldn’t be such a big deal if there were some way to skip sections like in other c25k apps, but instead you’re totally stuck redoing your run over and over until the app stops crashing. I eventually just deleting and downloaded something else. It’s too frustrating to be halfway through a run only to find out the app froze long ago and you have to start all over. I would totally download again if they found a way to fix the issues. Bummer!.Version: 2.0.9

Glitch enough?Any interruption makes the app stop the mission and you can't even continue. You have to start from the beginning again. Had to buy a different app which has no glitches and has made this one obsolete. I'd like my money back but that ain't gonna happen. Thanks!.Version: 1.0.2

Used to be AwesomeI have to re download it before every run because it just crashes on start otherwise. Garbage..Version: 2.0.5

Loved this app butIt’s recently started getting bugs I guess? I did a run the other morning and had every piece of dialogue repeated around 3 seconds after the first time I listened to it. I didn’t want to restart as I was already so far away from home but it’s making me hesitant to use it again and I’ve loved this app since I first got it..Version: 2.1.1

Missing heart rate, occasional crashesI’ve occasionally had the app crash on me when running in the background. It’s annoying because you don’t know immediately - you just get suspicious when you haven’t heard any audio cues in awhile. There’s no way to start the mission where you left off either, so when you restart the app, you have to start the mission over from the beginning. At the very least, it would be nice to skip the warmup walk. One request would be to track heart rate via the Apple Watch. Surprised this feature isn’t in the app already. Otherwise, a nice couch-to-5k app that’s more interesting than most!.Version: 2.0.9

Still buggyDespite updates between now and the last review, the app still crashes frequently when unlocking the phone during a workout. Thankfully, the app saves at the last voice prompt so you can pick up your workout where you left off, but it's treated as a second workout by the app's tracking website, ZombieLink. Some of the recordings are mistimed, as well, particularly during the running drills. Which is a shame as it's otherwise quite decent. The 'corkboard' menu doesn't look promising, but the exercises are more varied and flexible than other 5K apps, and the central premise - that you're being trained to locate and ferry supplies during a zombie apocalypse - does inspire a sense of panic and excitement during your workout, especially when zombie problems start intruding on your instructions. The story-based approach might have caused trouble for intermediate runners, but the workouts are adaptable depending on your skill level and energy..Version: 1.1.1

Needs fixingThe story line seemed like it would be fun to do, although, there are glitches with the app and music that just over lap and it's just not worth it since it ruins the walk/run you're trying to do..Version: 1.2.1

This program won't work for mostI wish I hadn't bought this. It's useless to new runners. I know because this is my second new start. The first time I used C25K and it was fab. I became a good runner with that as a base but I wanted to try something new. Someone who hasn't ran before needs structure such as run for 30 seconds, walk for 90 seconds etc. That is how one learns to run without overdoing it. To be told 10min of free run is just doomed to fail. I love the main zombie run app though but I wish I could get my money back on this one. Utterly useless. I'll go back to C25K..Version: 1.2.2

Extreme privacy invasionDemands access to your media, location, and motion tracker before allowing access. None of these permissions is necessary to perform the core functions of the app..Version: 2.5.2

Subscription model is a bit of a scamGreat idea, but a monthly subscription at $10 is rich enough, never mind it barely gives you enough time to finish a couch to 5k routine in four weeks. Would be better if it paused audio. Would be better also if long stints of activity had some sort of audio... the story feels so disconnected at times I found it hard to keep interest led. Probably would be great for a simple $5 app, but $10 a month subscription for about 60 minutes worth of audio certainly doesn’t feel like value..Version: 2.6.0

No Update In Nearly 3 Years‼️This app is looking old and the integration with iOS10 is non existent as it hasn't been updated in nearly three years. It would be good to have better compatibility with zombie link and HealthKit, Apple Watch. But the creators have seemed to have forgotten about this app..Version: 1.2.2

Free runs are a poor ideaPlease include the ability to turn of the mindless free run segments. I just end up walking them. The third week starts with near 20 minutes of free running. It’s pointless, you might as well reduce the run time by 20 minutes..Version: 2.5.2
