ZRX: Zombies Run + Marvel Move for Negative User Reviews

Needs More For Serious RunnersIt's quite likely I'm not the target audience for this app, already being quite into my fitness training, but I love zombie stuff so grabbed a copy. I feel it falls down in some pretty key areas: 1. No geotagging for real mapping of runs. You can't see where you've been or share your route - and it really disagrees with trying to have something like Nike+ GPS going as well (sensor contention?). 2. No ability to tune the interval training mechanics. I went for a 25 minute run (which the app incorrectly logged as a 2 hour 21 minute run of zero distance) and I had exactly one zombie chase - right at the end. Why can't I say, "Give me intervals of 30 seconds every 90 seconds," or whatever. 3. The music track overlay behaviour is sort of broken. It can't randomise playlists (or use "now playing" to let you do it yourself). It always starts at track one and has weird behaviour with supply pickups and song ends. 4. Supply pickup notation overlay sounds bad - its hard to work out what the synthetic voice just said I got. On the plus side, the game structure seems ok - but in my view it needs quite a bit if work to make it useful. Overall I couldn't recommend this as a running app, you'll keep bumping against what it *could* have been when finding out what it *is*. I hope the author does a revamp and makes it a better tool for runners rather than a niche product for motivation-starved couch potatoes..Version: 1.1

Paid version contains adsI loved this program, until they added unskippable ads. I refuse to pay for something that forces me to listen to ads..Version: 10.2.1

App now sucksI’ve been using this app for over 7 years and it’s been great. Updated it and now content I already had access to I have to pay for including episodes I already had downloaded. Thanks for ruining this Marvel..Version: 12.0.5

Great Concept, Buggy AppI really love the idea behind this app -- the narrative storyline does a great job keeping me motivated to get out running consistently, and the writing is funny and engaging. The app also has a decent amount of free features like the settlement mini game and item collection. Unfortunately, the app is really buggy and the amount of bugs really minimizes my willingness to pay a subscription for this service. For instance, in the seven weeks I've been using the app: it counted chapter one twice, it only randomly calculates calories expended per run (and sometimes not at all), the zombie chases seem really inconsistent in whether it senses you speeding up (even if I'm all-out sprinting), and sometimes you get two zombie chases that overlap each other so that I can't tell what's going on. I really wish they would polish the main functionality and fix these bugs before trying to do spin-off apps or make people pay subscriptions for content. If they did that, it would be a killer 5-star app. But as it stands, it's just a decent app that I don't think is worth the money for the premium features..Version: 6.0

Brilliant app with some issues.Zombies, Run! is a great app for keeping track of your runs while enjoying an engaging story. Unfortunately for my use case, there are some minor annoyances that add up very quickly over the course of a run. I tend to listen to podcasts over music and because the app just decreases the audio of other apps instead of pausing it completely, I often get two concurrent audio tracks, (one ZR story and one podcast) that overlap and sometimes leave each other completely unintelligible. This can happen 5-6 times per 30 minute run. It's not a massive issue but it does really bring down the enjoyment of a run. This is also an issue with the Radio mode at the end of a run. It's wonderful how much great work has gone into the secondary story of that mode but it would be great to be able to turn it off. It works great with music but is a bit weird otherwise (I feel like this used to be a feature but isn't anymore). ZR is a great app but it's let down by some small but very distracting issues..Version: 9.3.0

Doesn’t work with Apple WatchWhen you go for runs, it’s very annoying having to carry your phone with you. Why can’t the app work on Apple Watch? What the point of downloading it your watch if it doesn’t work without your phone being in Bluetooth range? People don’t like running carrying their phones..Version: 10.1.0

MehJust didn't enjoy really at all. When running I like my mind elsewhere like a good audiobook or music playlist. This app makes you constantly aware you're running with all the discomfort that brings. Voice acting was not good either. They've worked hard on this app so I don't begrudge them the relatively high price. Not for everyone though..Version: 1.2.1

New App Doesn’t WorkI loved this app until the new update comes out. It no longer functions. The missions don’t play, when I “stop” my run, I just have to exit the app and it doesn’t get recorded. It’s just a big mess! Will no longer recommend to others and am looking for an alternative that actually works. Or, just go back to the old app that worked perfectly fine!.Version: 12.0.2

QuestionNot a review, but a question.. Will the app work if I use a stationary bike?.Version: 10.1.0

Why did you change it ?I have used this app for years ! It was amazing. Now with the new update there is no audio and no story, so I don’t see a point to using this app anymore, it’s just like another gps tracker instead of an adventure run motivator. Too bad as I have been recommending this app to all my running friends..Version: 12.0.0

No stand alone watch appI don’t want to carry my phone on runs so this app is useless..Version: 11.0.3

Be great if I could, yenno, use it :(I downloaded this app on my phone. When I click the app icon, it opens a load screen then quickly crashes. I tried on my Apple Watch. It just says Connecting ensure your phone is in range and “Buetooth” is enabled..Version: 10.0.0

Needs workI like the idea, but the story line is pretty vague and there is no personalisation. Also at 4;30 per km, I am still unable to outrun the zombies. Logic needs tuning. No run map upload options, just silly hashtag post to Facebook..Version: 3.1.3

Latest update is an insultIn an effort to get Zombies subscribers on to Marvel Move, the developers have foisted a new app on its paying customers that does not include any of the features we pay for. The watch app is gone, the personal statistics are gone and I couldn’t even get it to work for my run today from my phone. I am extremely disappointed with this and feel like I am paying for nothing. This is not a minimum viable product, it’s not even fit for Beta release. You need to make this right with your customers..Version: 12.0.1

Crashed!Great app but it crashed towards the end of mission 1 with no data saved! Don't really want to do the same mission again :(.Version: 4.0

Iwatch issuesLove the app just had issues with iwatch so had to remove app from iwatch as it never ran smoothly and I could never end my run on the watch.. app on iwatch kept continuously opening and starting a run even when I had stoped it on my phone and exited out of the app on my watch.Version: 6.0.1

New version is very buggyTo begin, I am a long time user of Zombie’s Run. I love the special content with characters that get you very drawn in to the story, and make going for a run an absolute joy. However, the new version is buggy as all hell. I cannot get audio to play, at all. It says it’s playing, but nothing happens except the gps tracking and the timer. When I try to quit out of the run, it hangs. And everything in the app now is very very slow. Syncing takes forever, if it succeeds at all. The able township screen lags and is choppy. I’m on an iPhone 13, not some 5 year old phone. Plus, they cut out a lot of content in this version, like intervals. It breaks my heart, but until (if?) they bring the app back up to production quality, I can no longer recommend it..Version: 12.0.0

Great concept, awful app!No, awesome concept, one that really has motivated me to run, something that I really despise doing. As a result I would be happy to upgrade but the fact that the app is nothing short of an eyesore is preventing me from doing so. The UI looks worse than my daughters bedroom, with as much stuff crammed in as humanly possible. I refuse to pay to support this kind of app development. Once it is fixed I’ll be there like a shot!.Version: 8.0.5

Long time user, howeverLong time happy user, however since last summer running set times are not accurate. I go and set a run time of say 20min and story doesn’t adjust or end run prompt isn’t there. So continue running until story ends. Even if time is set to “story length” run still ends up longer. It is really frustrating to get a proper route mapped out when I have no idea how long I am actually going to be running..Version: 12.1.6

Overcharged me and are refusing to refundI was double-charged for several months of premium membership due to technical issues and the customer support team is refusing to refund me. Pretty terrible customer support, so I'll be switching to a different running app..Version: 6.0.3

Problems with the new app changesI usually don’t write reviews but with all the problems the app is having at the moment I decided to write this. It’s been taking a long time to start up, crashing, zombie chases glitching out and tracking has been off both on screen and with the audio. Also when the chase audio plays and you hear the zombies, normally the audio would play and warn you about the incoming zombies. During this and the 20, 50 meter warnings the audio would muffle your music. Now it’s just completely muffles the music even when no audio is playing and zombie chase are 100 meters with tracking not working correctly so I’m sprinting far more then I’m supposed to. Zombie noises would never muffle the music. They would slowly increase in audio as you got closer to them without the muffling. I’ve been using the app since 2015 when I was in middle school running track and cross and never once ran into a problem. Now with the app change it’s been doing all of this and making it impossible to use the app to train. Please I hope this gets fixed because I don’t want to stop using this app because of all the sudden problems. (Once the issues have been fixed I’ll switch the rating to a 5 because other than the problems it’s having the app is super good. Just that the problem make it practically unusable for some who’s been using it for years.).Version: 12.0.2

It used to be loveHonestly, I bought this app when it first came out and it was THE BEST run app. I told everyone. People I ran with, people who were just starting to run, strangers. It didn’t matter. I told literally everyone. Then I had a few surgeries and couldn’t run for a bit. Came back to find that all of my progress was gone and it was now a subscription. So I started over. Or tried to. This is where the glitches made it impossible. Music crashes happened on every run, progress didn’t save, miles weren’t accurate, run times were off and no matter the pace, you couldn’t outrun zombies. I’m talking about a pace increase from a light jog to a full on fast-as-you-can sprint, without being able to outrun them. It also doesn’t work on a treadmill, which is a bummer for people who need times to run with softer impact. I truly loved this app. I’m still trying to, but it doesn’t look good. The concept is amazing, the designers are talented but the cost is absurd. Especially for something that crashes on every run..Version: 8.0.5

Will get you started…I tested it out for free for a month and liked it enough to subscribe for 3 years. The storyline was successful in getting me out and running early on, and it encouraged me to stretch my runs from 2 miles to 3 miles, 2 to 3 days per week. But I really didn’t improve my time or fitness. I augmented this last year with a Garmin watch and the connect app. That really has helped improve my fitness way more than sporadic zombie chases. I let my subscription lapse this year for 3 major reasons: 1) The app has been upgraded to allow marvel runs, and a bunch of old features broke or were removed. Main storyline is there, but missions don’t download automatically, no interval training or airdrop, and new features are behind a second pay wall. 2) I got tired of the LGBTQ+ storylines. It felt I was getting more sexual drama than zombie action. I really don’t need that when I’m running. I want action! 3) I needed to augment my runs with the Garmin training program to see significant physical improvements. This will record your runs, but it isn’t a very good virtual trainer. I’ll still take advantage of my free weekly mission on my easy run day, but I’ll go back to music and podcasts for background engagement during most runs..Version: 12.0.8

Crash problems persist?..Despite the recent update that was sent, I still experience crashes. I'm using an iPod Touch 4th gen, and it crashes between radio transmissions, I'll be listening to music and JUST as I hear the sound of a zombie, presumably to indicate the start of a zombie chase, it crashes. I've tried to turn music off to improve performance, and no apps were running in the background, but it doesn't seem to help..Version: 2.5.1

Hard to integrate Apple Music and podcastsIt gets glitchy.Version: 10.2.1

Absolute GarbageIt’s a great idea, and the stories are great but the app is completely undesirable. Not a single run hasn’t crashed that I’ve been on. When I go for a run, I don’t expect to have to diagnose the app for 20 minutes. Garbage..Version: 8.0.5

It’s ok...Pros: Interesting stories and concepts. Cons: no heart rate info on the watch app, no cadence, and real time pace info is way off (it can fluctuate from 5 to 10 min / km in seconds). If you just want to add some fun to your run, try it. If not, you are better off with free ones Nike Run Club..Version: 9.2.2

DifficultWant to start off by saying I downloaded this app back in early 2016 and it still has not lost its touch, fantastic app being able to move both in world or in gym on a treadmill and I would have given it a 5 star rating due to its charismatic storyline and fun, run to collect resources scheme, but I’ve had to knock it down to 3 stars since for some reason on the IPhone 7 (be it may just be my phone) the app will only Work once after first installing the app but will then continuously crash every time I try and re-open it. Very disappointed that I can’t play it due it crashing..Version: 6.0.4

Great app but NEEDS a VITAL updateLet me start by saying I love this app. Zombies, Run has a great story and amazing world/app that made me actually excited to work out and dive back into the next episode or work on building my base. The issue is you MUST have your phone always. A big problem if you have the Apple Watch with cellular and prefer to run without lugging your phone around. There is no reason why I shouldn’t be able to stream just the basic aspects of the game, running and the audio stories while tracking my progress, on the watch and then work on my base, etc. after my run is over and I’m back at my phone. This is an update I hope they are working on as it is the only thing that is keeping me from using this app as much as I like, every time I run outside and not on a treadmill I’m not taking my big iPhone plus with me. If they added this feature, it would be an easy 5 stars no question. PLEASE put some thought into adding this feature to the watch app!!.Version: 7.1.0

InaccessibleHad heard so much about this app – then found that with VoiceOver running the app is not accessible at all! Don't recommend for anyone using assistive technology.Version: 11.0.3

Great phone app no Apple Watch supportI love the app but the Apple Watch function doesn’t connect at all. I’ve tried re installing and everything I’m very disappointed:(.Version: 7.0.4

I love this ideaI really like the stories I have just recently started using this app. I would really like to see it being used with the Apple Watch though so I don’t have to carry my phone when I’m on the treadmill. I would buy a subscription if I could have that option..Version: 12.1.5

Was 5/5 before rebranding…Now it’s 3/5. I’m sure I’ll get used to the layout changes, and I’m sure the bugs will be fixed with time, but it really is unfortunate that they had to rebrand the entire app for a Marvel partnership. I was under the impression that Marvel Move would be its own app, and I would have MUCH preferred that. Instead, I can’t access my race missions without losing my progress each time, can’t do interval training mode, and can’t do hardly ANYTHING without the app crashing. All for a tie-in with a media franchise I care nothing about that costs extra to even have access to. EDIT: Removed a star. I spent so long fighting with radio mode trying to make it play me the episode I’m actually on instead of a random one I’ve already listened to that I literally ran out of time to work out this morning. This app has gone from motivating me to work out to keeping me from working out. EDIT 2: Removed another star. Audio is straight up not playing for me now. The bugs seem to be getting worse instead of better. This is really disappointing… I used to love this app..Version: 12.0.6

Could be amazing... but it’s crap. The idea is amazing and the storyline somewhat intriguing, however the bottom line is... the effects are awful. The monotone ‘zombies approaching’ voice really put me off. It needs much better sound fx. It could do with an option to import a route so you know how far to run to get an item as it’s otherwise completely random whenever you pick something up. For the future I think this could be integrated with AR so you can hold your phone up and ‘see’ the zombies behind you and ‘see’ items ahead of you. A fantastic idea but not pulled off very well..Version: 6.0.1

What they don’t tell you...Basically you can’t EVER get a new phone if you aren’t paying the yearly subscription fee to access all episodes, as everything you unlock as a free member is LOST. I spent TWO YEARS unlocking episodes weekly to play once I finished season 3 (I get S1-3 included as a legacy member), now I’ve had to switch phones, all these missions are inaccessible and they expect me to spend another two years unlocking them again or pay the annual subscription. Of course, this isn’t stated ANYWHERE. Lost all respect for this company - seems their success has gone to their heads and they don’t care about the people whose support and $$$ got them where they are..Version: 8.0.5

Don’t get Version 12Do not download/update to version 12! If you’re lucky you’ll get an app full of glitches and with some features removed but if you’re unlucky then you’ll have an app that completely fails to work and crashes whenever you try to do something. Why on earth has Six To Start removed important features even though, they claim, they’ll be bringing them back soon?.Version: 12.0.0

Not what it use to be..I have been a Runner 5 for the last 9 years and the new version of the app (September 2023) is riddle with bugs: It’s really slow to open, like slooooooww I use my Apple Watch when I run/walk and every time I have a message for each km done, the app cut the sound to my AirPod and use the IPhone’s During the pauses in the mission, when the mission start again the music continue in the background. Etc.. I think this is the last year I subscribed to it, I so frustrated because of all this.Version: 12.0.3

VERY annoyedAfter waiting a week to be able to unlock the next episode I was up to, I now have to wait ANOTHER week. I pressed unlock and then pressed download and was waiting for ages for it to start downloading. I thought I must not be connected to the internet so I exited the app, saw I was connected, then went back on only to see I would have to wait another week to unlock it! thank god for decoy runs or I probably wouldn't go running as this app is the best motivation I have for running..Version: 4.0.2

It’s decent, but the story leaves a lot to be desired.I tried really hard to like this app, I thought it would be the one thing to make going on walks actually enjoyable. Unfortunately as the story progresses you quickly realize that, although the story is supposed to involve you personally as the main character, I find myself constantly frustrated by the fact that I have no agency or control. You know if a character is going to betray you almost immediately upon meeting them, and yet the other characters are so blind that the events of the story just seem like everyone is bumbling along and things just somehow work out. Not only that, but they try to incorporate ‘you’ in the story more and more often, and more often then not instead of ever fighting back ‘5’ just rolls over and lets things happen while I shout from the back row to just punch someone in the mouth already and get things moving..Version: 11.0.3

Wtff????This app installed itself on my phone either yesterday or when I was asleep somehow, how tf is that even possible?.Version: 12.1.0

EhI’ve been supporting this app since a month or so after its release. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but I remember getting rid of it on my old phone because I needed space. Back from my old phone, this app had an interesting twist for a running app, immersive story, unique characters, and a cool book. (I really recommend the book.) But coming back now? What the hell happened? Look, I’ll cut to the chase here, I’m a student. I can’t afford to pay for a monthly or yearly subscription for content that should be accessible for free. The radio station for example, used to be free. Now I have to pay for it? I have to pay to see my own statistics? That’s a foul move. I understand that having a free app needs to have some sort of way to make money, but this is really a slap to the face to those that supported this app from the very beginning, and to those who really can’t afford to spend four dollars a month..Version: 6.0.3

I like this app, but…So it’s pretty good, except I need to update and sign in EVERY time I open this app. It’s really annoying, especially when I forget and am about to set off, but oh no now I need to update the app and log in again, usually takes like five minutes. Really, really annoying and kills my motivation..Version: 12.1.0

Just my own musicI got this app because I was tired of listening to music and need something engaging and exciting to run to. This isn’t it. Each piece of the ‘mission’ is about a minute long and then it just runs through several of my songs before going on to the next minute. Potential to be great, but currently isn’t..Version: 7.0.5

Very glitchyAs others have mentioned, the new version is very glitchy. I had to restart a mission five times before I could get the whole thing to finish. Really takes the enjoyment out of it..Version: 12.0.1

Terrible script - my music was way more entertainingI really wanted to love this and based on the reviews was excited to try it. Initially, it was ok; characters were a bit boring but not too intrusive and I enjoyed collecting supplies and building the base. By the end of season 1 though I was well and truly over it. It got to the point where I just wanted to mute the storyline and only gather supplies as the pointless chatter, unfunny jokes and annoying characters were ruining my music. I have to deal with enough annoying idiots at work so don’t need them running with me too. Maxine especially did my head in and the only thing that kept me running and listening to this game was the hope that maybe she’d get eaten by a zombie. Alas, she was still alive at the end of season 1 and still moaning about Paula in that annoying drawl of a voice. Disappointed I spent money on this but even more disappointed that this app was such a massive let down..Version: 9.0.2

Major update with major problemsStart a workout then… nothing. Can’t end the workout - the stop button does nothing except stop the music. Have to hard quit the app before I can do anything in it again. At least selecting the season takes me to the right page now, rather than landing me on season 1. But the app is sadly totally unusable for me now..Version: 12.0.2

ZRX has ruined Zombies RunI’m gutted about the latest update as I’ve been using this app for 10 years and loved it. I know that some of the functionality has been restored since the big change to integrate Marvel but it’s still a substandard product that feels like no one is testing before update releases. I can no longer hear clips well as my music is playing behind them, the Home Screen is cluttered, and navigation is confusing. I tried one of the Marvel episodes and the story was weak and confusing so probably won’t bother with any more of them. It has meant that I have even more Marvel tiles cluttering my Home Screen which can’t be edited or reordered. I will edit my review if improvements are made but for the first time in a decade, I’m considering parting ways with my favourite app..Version: 12.0.6

Glitchy and no storyI subscribed to this app because I loved the stories and the zombie runs. It really helped me get out there and stay motivated. But now there is no story and it’s glitchy. I unsubscribed and won’t resubscribe unless the story is back. I am so disappointed..Version: 12.0.1

So glad I didn’t pay for thisCan’t use this at all, crashes during stage 1 every time. I have the latest version on the latest iOS and it’s worse now, crashes a few minutes into the run. Pretty much useless.Version: 7.2.0

Awesome idea, but way too buggyI’m training up for a 10k run, so I thought gamifying my training would be a great way to go. This app is solid idea, but massively let down by a large number of really serious bugs: * “Internal” music player doesn’t seem to play music from your Apple Music playlist, leaving you to run in total silence (just use the “external” player, always) * Apple Watch app is incredibly buggy, connected during the first run but never gotten it to work since * Runs don’t always pick up your heart rate * Training course runs don’t attach to the right day * Premium (paid) sync feature is atrocious, when it works it only syncs some data but not others * Tried reinstalling the app to resolve some issues, lost my most recent run and all of my “Training Course” progress At over NZ$40 *per year*, I’m gonna have to give this one a hard pass due to the poor quality of the app itself. Shame, it was shaping up to be an awesome way to get fit....Version: 7.2.1

Disappointing customer supportBought the original version, returned after a few years happy to read that I am able to get access to the original content still. however, for unknown reasons my app won’t provide access. Support didn’t seem to care and just blamed apple, which is a bit hard to swallow considering everything is linked to their own account system. Considering the response was essentially a shrug, I am not confident in paying them an ongoing subscription for content i had already bought let alone new stuff..Version: 9.0.4

Great, but some real problemsUsing the app is great. Over time, the story gets confusing, and the characters run together. This is especially because it’s playing while you’re exerting yourself and only ever paying partial attention to the details. Still, the zombie chases spur you on and keep running fresh. The watch app is absolute garbage, and has been useless for years. It hasn’t worked in about 5 versions of this app, and I’ve been running the latest hardware and OS on both the phone and watch. The watch app never loads, and when it did many years ago, it still required the phone to be nearby. The watch is no longer new tech, and there’s no reason this shouldn’t be fixed by now. Unfortunately, the problem with the watch app is causing me to use the app less and less, and pretty soon I’ll probably discontinue my paid subscription. It also should have better integration with popular tracking apps like Strava or MyFitnessPal. As of now it only links to RunKeeper, though those things can meet in the Apple Health app..Version: 8.0.5

Doesn’t workAfter the latest update episodes no longer play, and ironically the email support button is broken as well :( please fix this bug!.Version: 12.0.1

Let down by lack of cross platform supportActually this is an ok app which many people will find motivating. I did. However when I changed platform for my mobile I discovered that there is absolutely no way to take the app with me. That lack of cross platform support is old fashioned in my opinion and also suggests to me a distinct lack of willingness to help customers on the part of the game company. They offer no way to help that transition. It’s buy it once from us, and then buy it from us again. Hence 2 stars..Version: 7.2.2

Sad to see this happenIt really pains me to write this but I just had to add my voice to the other recent reviews. Since switching to ZRX, the app has gone from one of my favorite fitness apps to unusable and not with the effort to work through. I’ve been a VIP subscriber for years but at this point, I’m not going to renew my subscription unless the app is drastically fixed. Since the switch to ZRX, the app has trouble loading at all and often hangs at start-up. Even when I do get the app working, I’m not a fan of the new interface. I was never interested in Marvel Move and suddenly I feel like I had to go digging to pick up my ZR storyline. There are even small nuisances like music now stopping when you end a mission that just irritate me enough to miss the good old days with ZR. It’s really sad to see this happen to one of my favorite apps. I’ll still fondly remember all the runs I did with Sam and the crew at Able Township..Version: 12.1.0

Nice idea... but -Did not execute very well at all using iPhone 7 and Watch 4. Had to stop several times during first run to restart. Could not get background music working. App went silent half way thru challenge. Actually ruined my run for the day..Version: 7.1.0

Fantastic concept, but tracking issuesLove the idea of this app, and the stories are really engaging and pretty creepy (you’re brave if you run with Zombies, Run! at night!) I love that you can have music/podcasts playing at the same time, as I was worried that the zombie episodes would be constant for my entire run, but the interruptions are quick and interesting, and aren’t too frequent to break your tempo. However, I’ve had massive GPS issues when using the app, which I haven’t suffered using other fitness apps. Apparently I ran 1km in about 3 minutes, and my overall run ended up being 2+km more than the route I planned. The zombie chases also seem to be geared towards elite runners who begin running at a faster pace, as even when speeding up from 6min/km to 4min/km there seems to be no difference in my inability to outrun the mob - I suspect this ties in with GPS issues. Once the above is fixed, as well as allowing standalone apple watch functionality and Strava integration, this will be a great app. But for now I have to run Strava simultaneously, which unfortunately Zombies Run interferes with anyway..Version: 9.2.4

Ruined by the latest updateI’ve been a big fan for 8 years, but the update to ZRX has ruined the experience for me. A lot of the functionality has been “temporarily” removed. Most importantly, GPS tracking is not working, so you can’t see how far you have run. Secondly, instead of pausing your music to play the story clips, the story just plays over your music so you can’t understand anything. There is no option to even adjust the sound balance. When you remove these features, this app has no benefit beyond just listening to your music through a basic audio player. Therefore I won’t be renewing my subscription..Version: 12.0.3

Great idea, but lack of real Apple Watch SupportWhen I first got into running, way before I got my Apple Watch, this is the app that kept me going. Living in a virtual zombie infested world, with great voice actors, thrilling missions and survival elements, this app has it all. Then I got my Apple Watch. I didn’t need to run with my phone anymore and was thankful I could leave it home on runs. I always get the chunky boys (I own an iPhone 14 mega beast) so being able to run without it was great. But after 3 years still no standalone app for the Watch. This is NOT an Apple Watch app, as it’s completely useless without your phone. Without true Apple Watch support, with standalone downloads for the missions, I can’t recommend this app for Apple Watch users..Version: 11.0.3

Just one problemI haven’t had the app for too long, but from what I know already it’s pretty good. It’s fun and it really motivates me to run. The only problem is that when I pause, the zombies still chase. I pause because I need a break and then I lose supplies because they catch me. Losing supplies makes me mad because I worked for those and I need them to build my town up. I have Athsma so I can’t run for too long. When the zombies are chasing I speed up, but I can’t go that far because I can’t breathe. When I pause I expect a break not a loss of well earned items..Version: 9.2.1

New ZRX very buggyI purchased the app just before Season 2 came out, back when some episodes required certain buildings in your town be completed (I liked that the town mattered back then). I really enjoy the app, but this ZRX stuff has just been a mess. A lot of issues have been fixed, but at least twice, including yesterday, I would start a run, it would play the first audio clip, and then… nothing. Not my playlist that I had selected, not the next audio clip, just silence while I collect items. So disappointing. I can’t troubleshoot this app’s issues while running! I just have to quit the app, turn on the playlist in my music app, and hope it works better the next time. It’s a good thing I don’t rely on ZRX to track my running (I just use it for the audio)..Version: 12.1.0
