The Walk: Fitness Tracker Game for Negative User Reviews

Hopefully updates will fix this appI love the premise of this game but sadly it didn't hold up. I walk a lot but this app only tracked about 50% of it (compared to my Fitbit) and burned through the battery in the process. The story is fantastic but I had to constantly check my phone to see if I had reached a new story point, which was tedious. A vibrate notification at the very least would be better. I've uninstalled to preserve my battery but will look again when updates happen..Version: 1.0.1

Huge disappointmentI was expecting to walk along listening to an engaging story. Instead I got complete silence until I realised I was supposed to tap the speaker icon. After about a minute it was back to more silence. I got what I thought was a text alert, so stopped walking, wrestled my phone from my pocket and found it was just the app telling me the next part of the story had been unlocked. From there I had to do a couple more taps... only to hear the same audio again. As other reviewers have said, the story doesn't automatically continue once you unlock a bit. Each time you have to faff about with your phone and in between time you hear nothing. I felt silly, walking along wearing earphones that had nothing coming out of them. I wish I hadn't bothered paying for this. I want to walk without having to get my phone out every couple of minutes. I'll be sticking with the other walking/pedometer apps that do their jobs effectively and cost nothing..Version: 1.2

Definitely not for runningI suppose that should be obvious with a name like "the walk", but it's impossible to have the phone in your pocket or on your arm while playing because you'll miss things on the map. Also, the accents sound fake and are super annoying. To the point where I stopped playing after the second or third "chapter". Would be good if you get bored walking to work or school and don't like listening to music..Version: 1.3

Not for meI us d this app for the first time today. I didn’t experience any bugs and the voice acting and story in the first episode were good, but there were a couple things that I think will keep me from using it again. It was surprisingly difficult to figure out how to start the episode in the first place. But maybe that’s just me. My biggest problem is that I reeeeally wish the clips would play automatically as you walk. I really don’t like having my phone in my hand or looking at it while I walk, so I don’t think this will work for me. I want to like it, but it just doesn’t suit my purposes..Version: 2.0.3

UmDoesn't even recognize me walking so what's the point?.Version: 1.0.1

DisappointedI am recovering a foot injury and can only walk, I decided to try The Walk. As an Abel Runner’s Club member, I absolutely love Zombies Run! First, the stories do not automatically start when goal is reached. Second, the first challenge did not guide me to the sentries (map is extremely difficult to follow). Meaning I would leave the main path and towards the sentry or the item for pick up and my marker would not deter from the path. Third, I am always having to look at my phone, unlike ZR, it doesn't just start and go. Although, I am walking and not running I do not want to have to constantly look at my phone for cues or to start the next story. Am I doing something wrong????? I have gone back to ZR to and unfortunately, that sadly reminds me that I cant run☹️ UPDATE: I have been using this app continuously since June. I see where Six to Start has bundled all their apps into an annual subscription. This app needs a minor improvement before I would commit to a bundled sub. The biggest annoyances are as follows: 1. I have to continuously look at my phone 2. The story does not automatically start when I reach the milestone. 3. The time duration cannot be tailored for the walker’s availability..Version: 2.6.1

Don’t work anymoreI paid for this app which I liked very much and reset it to start again this week. Then the new update make me have to pay again, like I didn’t bought it in the first place. Please fix this!.Version: 2.6.0

5 free than you have to payLoved the free episodes but graphics and story not the best to be paying monthly subscription fees for.Version: 2.6.3

Misleading!!!I started the adventure due to being in quarantine, nowhere did it tell me that after 5 of the episodes I would have to pay for the rest. Imagine getting someone involved in a walking story just to spring on them that to finish the story they will have to pay, when they more than usually don’t have the funds too. Very misleading I’m more than upset. Thinking of deleting the app altogether now. Time wasted..Version: 2.5.4

Not worth itI walked an hour and a half and still didn't make it through the first episode. It was only supposed to take 33 minutes. I don't know if the app couldn't tell if I was walking or if it was the GPS. On top of that, the app crashed to where I couldn't even use my phone. I was really hoping this was going to be like Zombie Run where it played audio automatically as you ran. I was not a fan of constantly clicking on the map to hear audio. I just wanted to walk. Not stare at my phone the whole time..Version: 1.3

Would be a five star app with one small changeIt's pretty unreasonable to expect someone to drag their phone out of their pocket and keep checking it to see if they've reached the next part of the story. Please add an autoplay option to make it continue the story when you've walked enough!.Version: 1.2

Nice idea, poorly executedToo pricey with too many irritating problems. Biggest issue is that it doesn’t track time walked consistently. I walked for over an hour on a 57 minute route and it still says I have 20 minutes to go. The new story segment notifications don’t have an a,erg sound so you have to continually check your phone (do they expect you to stare at it all the time while walking?). Some of the icons are tiny and difficult to hit, they also sometime overlap with the controls (top left) so you often hit the wrong thing. Every time you access the app it show a summary screen, then often another screen you have to skip past before you can get back to the map. Thanks, but if I want a summary I’ll request one. Needs a lot more work before it can be fun and reliable. Very disappointing for the price..Version: 1.0.1

Waste of money for meI was looking for an app that tells the story while walking without me having to mess with my phone the whole time touching to listen to sound bytes and to "pick up" stuff. I wish it was more like the zombie apps from the same group. Also I had to delete the app because I couldn't make it stop running in the background despite changing settings. It was overheating my phone and draining the battery within a couple hours. Wish I could get my money back. Worthless!.Version: 1.3

I really want to like it, but...The story seems good so far, but it doesnt play automatically. So you have to stop and figure out ehere you are and press a little thing. To me it ruins the whole point. And if you are walking in the sun you cant always see the screen. I hoped it would be like zombie run. I dont understand the pount of it if it make you stop and fiddle with it..Version: 2.6.1

DisappointingApp doesn’t track accurately, is very buggy and not at all integrated in the same way Zombies, Run is. The story is good but the fact content is one minute long and you have to go into the app to listen to it each time is just a hassle when you when you want to be walking along enjoying the story/the walking. Also notifications don’t seem to work meaning I’ve missed out on supposed “bonus” content. Overall, the app is clunky and not that easy to use. Also, as someone who lives in Scotland, those Scottish accents are dreadful..Version: 2.6.1

Doesn't TrackThe app doesn't track anything when my phone is locked. I keenly want to do the story and all, but if it doesn't count my walking while my phone is locked and therefore can't unlock the story modules, it's just not working for me. I would also like to see an auto-play feature so you don't have to attend your phone every 5-10 minutes for each new audio module. I don't want to have to constantly be holding and interacting with my phone while I walk. ☹️.Version: 1.3

It's -20C !I gotta touch my phone to use this? I'll check back in the summer..Version: 1.0.1

Great ideaThis is such a great idea but in implementation it's disappointing. I totally expected to be able to launch it, put my phone in my pocket and then just walk and enjoy something based upon my movements. No such luck! The sound bites are short as anything and then you need to tap round the interface to make them play. I don't want to be walking around constantly staring at my phone. Then there's the fact it just goes silent in between, no music, nada nothing! Also technical detail, the audio player doesn't seem to release itself after finishing to allow the app to make a notification noise when the next bit is ready?.Version: 1.0.1

Useful ButA good app that's useful but if, like me, you prefer to go on one long walk each day the app needs to remember that an inbuilt music player is useful. All day tracking is fine but why after zombies run have the makers overlooked the iPod music player. You have to quit the app, launch iPod choose music only for the app to fade it out at the right time but not fade music back in again. I'd rather the story unfolded while I was walking rather than simply checking at the end of each day to listen to each unlocked chapter one after the other. Please learn from this mistake and improve in the next update. It is a fun way to improve walking distance but the lack of music functionality lets it down..Version: 1.0.1

It’s kind of a hassleI wanted an app that would gamify my waking regime and get me moving. This seemed like the thing, but it has too many problems. It doesn’t auto play when you reach goal - I constantly have to take out my phone and look to see if I’ve passed a goal, or gotten close to it. There’s nothing playing in between goals - Some signal that kept me aware of the passing distance, or some theme music, or something. I would rather just put on a podcast, but I don’t want to get out of the game. The biggest problem is that I can’t put my phone away, I have to be looking at it at all times to see if I’m close to a goal, or I have to play one when I reach it..Version: 2.6.2

Can’t purchase - just an expensive subscription modelSo initially a great app. I liked the cheesy storyline of being an unwitting spy, carrying a parcel for 500 miles & it was just something different to listening to music & podcasts Also impressed it had been built in conjunction and sponsored by the NHS In the App Store it also says you can buy the app for £4.49….. Once you’ve done the first 4 missions - which I did over the course of 2 weeks on and off - it asks you to pay for it. No problem, happy to pay, errr where’s the purchase button. Nope, their minimum subscription is now £5.99 a month. However their support site & website still talks about purchasing it but nope supposedly changed the model in Dec 2019 I don’t want to join a running club to be chased by Zombies & I want to do the app in my own time. Not have to pay £33 for a 12 month subscription (which I guesstimated it would take me at least) instead of a £4.49 one off purchase So guess I’ll go back to listening to millions of songs & podcasts instead and then listen to the Proclaimers once my phone tells me I’ve walked those 500 miles TL;DR Great potential - shady pricing model for 5+ year app..Version: 2.6.3

Love to love this but I can’t!Downloaded this because although I love Zombie Run, I don’t want to have to bust out running thru the hallways at work during my lunch hour. I’ve found it’s just too buggy! Some of the time, when I do get to listen to the story progress, it glitches and I get five seconds of story, then i get silence for five seconds and the story skips…..so I miss half of what they’re saying. I would GLADLY pay for an app like this….but not when there’s so much that needs. It’d be nice too if it just auto played when you finally hit a checkpoint..Version: 2.6.2

Needs Easy ImprovementI am a big fan of Zombies, Run, which lets you set a playlist and the audio narration will intervene, and afterward your music resumes. I can’t afford to have my nose in my phone while I’m walking because I am paying attention to my surroundings. It seems like this would be an easy fix, since this is the set-up for Zombies, Run. Unfortunately I won’t continue with this app unless it has the same set-up, but I will continue using Zombies, Run, which is much easier to use. I hope they fix this, because this seems like a very fun story!.Version: 2.5.4

Very DisruptiveIf you are out for a stroll and don't mind having to take out your device and interact with it every 7 minutes or so then this is the app for you. If you are trying to get a serious walk in, are walking in the rain or, in my case, walking in minus 30, then this level of interaction is annoying. After a minute in minus 30 your finger tips start to hurt. Great story that will keep you amused while out for a leisurely stroll. Otherwise stick with Zombies Run..Version: 1.2

It could be fixed so easilyIt would take a half of day of programming to make this app an enjoyable experience but sadly it’s just teadious. For something that’s meant to be less hands on than zombies run and more of a step counter they missed the mark with how they operate collectibles and achievements. Also I have a problem with the side missions. I draw a path and make an effort to be more active for 24 hours only to have the program reset and not track any of my progress. Zombies Run works great but it’s a subscription service with free bits. This that I paid for hasn’t served me well in the five years I’ve been using it. I just wish I could use this purchase as a legacy app for the zombies run subscription. Guess I’ll just keep slogging away at the free missions there and redownload another step counter from a certain game company with little alien seeds..Version: 2.6.3

Good premise, not convinced by the executionWhile I like the idea and find the story quite interesting the app is not particularly usable. In order to hear the audio clips that you’ve unlocked you are constantly taking your phone out to activate the next one and the interface for doing so is very fiddly to use while moving. In poor weather it becomes even worse, having to fight with layers and gloves in order to listen to what has been unlocked. It’s also not convenient to listen to music while running this app as you have to keep switching back and forth manually rather than the narrative loading automatically during the gaps between tracks the way it does in "Zombies, run!”. I would even prefer a system where the music is interrupted for the narrative to constantly digging my phone out. These flaws are not game breaking and may actually be things that draw some people to the game but in order to appeal to a broader church I would suggest that it should be possible to play around with this kind of thing in the settings, possibly keeping the existing arrangement as the default but allowing for those of use who like to get our heads down and plough on. This would mean that those who really appreciate the level of interactivity would be able to continue exploring the map to the fullest extant and would get additional bonuses and achievements for doing so as is currently the case while the rest of us would be able to concentrate on an immersive experience..Version: 1.1

Still needs a lot of workI really wanted to love this app. As a fan of other six to start apps I assumed it would be good. However, this is easily the most buggy/laggy app I have ever used on an apple device. If I check another app and come back, it often loses my progress and takes me back to the start screen. The story line is the only thing this app has right at the moment. There needs to be A LOT more development for this to be a reliable and enjoyable user experience..Version: 1.3

Frustrating pricing optionI really enjoyed the first few free chapters. I was happy to purchase further until I realised this was subscription only. Not interested in the complete bundle with the Zombie options. Just want the walk. Disappointing as not worth it as a subscription..Version: 2.6.3

Glad the app now loads in iOS 9However, the performance is really spotty. Since I know you update things very infrequently, I suspect I’ll have to live with this. The app freezes and then unfreezes. It doesn’t recognize minutes walked and then it does. It says you’ve got 23 hours left for a challenge and then the next minute it says the walk is done. Frustrating but usable and the story continues so I’ll consider these all just challenges set up by the Burn..Version: 1.3

Really wanted to like this..I deleted this app for two reasons: 1 - it doesn't seem to work with the iPhone music player very well (so either there is silence between story points, or I have to manually go into the app every time), and 2 - having to stop walking every few minutes to check my phone for new "clues", etc, is really inconvenient and kind of annoying.. I love Zombies, Run! If these things were fixed I would probably redownload this.Version: 1.3

Great Concept, but…I love the concept. I’ve been using Zombies Run for running and thought this would be fun to listen to while walking the dog. However, as one other reviewer mentioned, the clips do not play automatically and you can’t sync your music into the story as you can with the running apps. Makes me less likely to continue using it as I am not staring at my phone while out walking the dog..Version: 2.6.2

Zero support, doesn’t work with Apple WatchBefore you pay for this app, just be warned that support will not respond if you have issues. And there are issues. For all the permissions you have to give this app, you’d think it would be able to track your steps, but it’s count is consistently less than any other app counts. Also, if you’re not walking with the phone, it counts nothing. Even when you’re walking with a watch recording a workout. If you still want to get it, you probably don’t need a full year subscription to finish it. There’s not any updates or seasons like with zombies run..Version: 2.6.2

Apple Watch steps don’t count?I really like the idea and implementation of it. While I don’t see it as a stand alone app to use when I walk say 3 miles, I do see it more to encourage me to get my steps in for the day. Here is where it fails. In this day and age of trackers, especially the Apple Watch, to force me to pop my phone on walks or in my pocket to capture steps in my office environment is ridiculous. Why can’t this health app, like everyone else I have take my steps from the watch and apply it towards my goal or “walk” in this case. Please fix this so I don’t have to carry my phone in my pocket in the office, on a treadmill or frankly even outdoors..Version: 2.5.2

Kinda disappointedI’ve recently started using zombies run and was hoping this would be the same but for walking. I’m really disappointed that you have to keep getting your phone out to open content it is really annoying. Also would be nice to be able to listen to music without it cutting out every time the story starts!.Version: 2.6.2

BugsFound this app really good until I got to a later (?) stage of the game/story (perhaps as another reviewer suggested, the change to IOS 9). Now it closes itself frequently and the actual app is slow. Please fix because I've enjoyed it so far!.Version: 1.3

Needs workNo autoplay of story segments, no background music, a shockingly bad pedometer algorithm that picks up 1 in 10 steps (if you're lucky). I want to like this app, but until these issues get seen to - I can't..Version: 1.0.1

Not greatI bought this app to encourage more proactive exercise and to choose to walk rather than drive everywhere. I'm finding that it hardly tracks my walking, I walked for 20 minutes the other day with my dog and it told me is walked 3. I found that there was no real clear explanation of the app and how it works etc. Also, £2.49...a bit steep in my opinion. It's supposed to be designed for the NHS to encourage people to walk more and get healthy. The price will discourage many. I'll keep at it and hope there's some much needed future update..Version: 1.0.1

Upgrade has spoiled itCan’t restore purchases even after new update - not as user friendly since version 2.Version: 2.0.2

Awful customer supprt for buggy appLike others, I am having issues with this game involving activity tracking. Sometimes it works OK and other times it will hardly track at all. I have had this game for some time but haven't used it in about a year so I remember it working much better in the past. I contacted Customer No-Service and gave them many details, even the fact that it doesn't even track equally on 2 different devices. As well as not getting notifications from the app as I should. After several e-mails with as many details I could come up with to help them track the bugs, they finally replied with "So you're aware, The Walk has been specifically designed to be a pedometer, not an activity tracker. Because of this it will only detect walking movement, not any more general movement you do during the day." And a very long list of how I had to be doing it all wrong and how I didn't understand how a pedometer/iphone accelerometer worked so I wasn't using the app correctly. I sent them back an email addressing every one of their points on Saturday and today added a note that they should read the reviews on iTunes. I can't believe every one of us is so stupid we can't figure it out. If they get back to me with a better thought out response, even a "wow, we didn't know it was this bad" then I will give this app another star. If they get it fixed and I get an apology from them, then it will get more..Version: 1.3

Not bad in current form. But not great must buy either.I enjoyed Zombies, Run! enough that I bought this app without delay when it was released. But I have to say that in the app isn't much beyond a pedometer. You can take your phone out of your pocket every 15 minutes or so of walking to tap at a couple of things on the screen but as an interactivity element I'm really not happy with it. For one thing it is dang cold outside right now so my walking is done in such an environment that I'm not going to stop to scan the digital screen. You don't need to do this to complete the story aspect of The Walk so it is unlikely they will change this element either way. The story is ok. I prefer the way it comes in Zombies, Run! if for no other reason than it plays mixed in with my music/podcasts while I'm running. I haven't found a way to get it to play the story elements on its own, which makes sense as it also tracks my walking all day and I wouldn't want a story element to be played while I'm walking down a hallway at work..Version: 1.0.2

This is not fun. At all.I expected this to be something I would launch at the start of my walk and the narrations would play in real time and items would be automatically picked up. Instead, I have to constantly fiddle with my phone during my exercise, OR sit around for 15 minutes afterwards listening to little story clips and clicking useless white boxes. The special routes give you "collectibles" that aren't useful, funny, relevant, or interesting. I'm deleting it for now. I may download again later if they update this and make it useful and fun..Version: 1.3

Flawed...A good idea ruined by poor implementation. It is so frustrating to spend 40 minutes walking and then realize that this app has only logged less than half of it. This has repeatedly soured my enjoyment of the challenge to the point where I am ready to give up using it. And, yes, I have wifi/location /etc turned on..Version: 1.0.1

Where's the music?I like the story but having to check and tap every couple of minutes was really annoying. Why can't it just play a whole session like Zombies? And the silence between was boring! I couldn't see any way to add music. Zombies setup was much better..Version: 1.0.1

Good, but could be better…I love the story line, but being a dog mom with two large dogs it’s difficult having to stop to play the unlocked clips. I’d love to have a hands free option that plays the clip as it unlocks. I’d also love to be able to play my music in between clips like I do with ZR5K and Zombies, Run!.Version: 2.6.3

Objectively makes your walks worseIt’s a pity. The story seems fun and the production value seems top notch on that, but this app objectively makes your walk worse because of the silly UX. Notifications simply do not work, at all. And it doesn’t pause whatever you where listening to previously, so you are forced to continually check the app to check you progress, then play the story clip manually, then manually return to whatever you were listening to and all that fiddling around just slows you down and is a distraction from what should have been a fun story walk. I don’t understand why the app wants full always on tracking if it’s not going to pay attention and just play the clips. Make no sense. Same company makes Zombies, Run and they manage to fix that just fine but not this? Silly..Version: 2.6.1

Bugs in ios9Used to be a brilliant app but bugs in ios9 make it pretty much unusable. Please fix!.Version: 1.3

Challenges reset before doneI like this app for the main episodes but every time I try to do a challenge I get partway through and then the app resets my progress and I have to start over. This is extremely disheartening. For example, today I got more than an hour through a 92-minute challenge when it reset. The only way I’ve completed any challenges is by keeping my phone unlocked with the app open for the entirety of a challenge, which is ridiculous when it’s over an hour and a half long. Considering that I’m paying for this app, I’m very bummed..Version: 2.6.4

Loved but can’t download ep 31I got through first 30 episodes and now I am getting an error that I can’t download ep 31 either because my phone is full or due to a network issue but I have checked both those things and neither is true. I haz a sad. Update: After a few days, it let me download the episode but the app asked if I liked it right as I was having more download issues so am disappointed still.Version: 2.0.3

Has the potential to be amazing, but just too many bugs!I really wanted to love this app. I have Run, Zombies, Run! And it changed my life. The Walk could be amazing, but just has a few things I personally would prefer changed! I get that it's meant to be interactive, but I find it cumbersome to constantly be looking at the screen and tapping things when I'm meant to be walking. I wish there were a mode where audio played automatically when you hit checkpoints. I also wish it worked with your music, in the same was RZR does. I ended up giving up as it was just too hard to try and look at the screen and tap while hiking (and not fall over something), but I guess it would work if you were just on an even-ground gentle walk..Version: 1.3

Would be good if...It didn't eat 50% of my data in 2 days.Version: 1.2

With some updates this will rockAt this point I'm deleting this app. It's just not functional or fun. It is only picking up about 1/10th of my walks and the interface isn't great. The company that made it IS an awesome company... Check out their ZombieRun2 for evidence of that..Version: 1.0.1

A bit of disappointment...I am just getting back into fitness and in the between days of the Zombies, Run! 5K Training I thought I would try this. I did the first episode today and I have to say I really don't care for it. The story is interesting and I like the concept but I don't like the interaction of this. I liked that Zombies,Run! Tells you how much longer to things and the audio allows for my music to be played in between. The Walk doesn't allow me to do that and I constantly have to be staring at my phone. Would it be that difficult to start an episode and have the characters say like 'oh it should just be ahead a couple of minutes' and then play the story audio as you get to it? I want to walk and enjoy it, not walk and stare at my phone. Kind of wish I didn't spend the money on this....Version: 1.2

DisappointedI wanted to like this app - the premise of having to walk to get a story is great. But it works so poorly on my iPhone 6s. The map is slow in responding. I am on episode 5 and twice it has lost my days data making me wait again to get the story. If I read that they have fixed these issues I will try again..Version: 1.3

DisappointingProbably should have read the reviews first. The story seems interesting, but the gameplay is terrible. I expected it to be like Zombies, Run! but it's not. There's no integrated music player and you have to tap the story parts when you get to them. This also pauses any music you might be playing outside the app and doesn't automatically start playing it again afterwards. Also there seems to be a notification system built in that doesn't work. You have to keep track of how long you have until the next segment is available. This would be a much better game if it worked like ZR5K and played the story when you get to it automatically. I don't want to think about time or stare at my phone while exercising. Kind of disappointed I bought it. Hopefully the rest of the bundle is better..Version: 1.3

Like it but UI is garbageI liked the story and acting so i paid for it and don’t regret. However, the UI is pretty inconvenient. You can’t save in progress manually (but it would stay in the middle without it), the episode goes back to the episode 1 when you finishes playing a episode so you should go swipe further manually to start next episode, and the biggest issue is the challenges would be reset if you use other apps like music or phone call while you doing the challenges which take up to 90 mins. I’ve sent an email about this issue because I can’t literally play, but no reply..Version: 2.6.3

UmmmI like the concept of this game and the story. But it takes a very, very long time to complete an episode - so far, I’ve had to walk so many days (72+ hours), before one episode would complete. If it says 17 minutes, it actually means 17 hours or longer - time under 6 minutes, works but anything longer is in hours. Even walking so many kilometres, does hardly anything - adds/removes about 2 to 4 minutes from the map. For the tracking to not work properly, it seems that the app doesn’t actually recognise steps or distances - even though the steps are close to what’s been tracked on my pedometer, this app requires some other type of movement to make it move on the map. This is annoyingly frustrating and quite boring when I’m waiting so many days and have walked for so many hours, to hear one audio recording/story. If the game’s story was more like Zombies, Run! and had the same options ( such as distance/GPS, pace etc), I’d be hearing the story more often, instead of waiting quite a few days to pass beforehand - the distance between each story is quite a large gap, it also seems like it’s missing parts of the story... unless it’s suppose to cut off and leave us wondering and confused. The blizzard story was quite bad - even though I played the audio each time it became available, it sounded like I just appeared in that location (from out of nowhere) and couldn’t even tell what was going on at the time. An explanation of how, what, when, where and/or why, goes a long way. How it is now, it sounds like a conversation that started half way. EG. “Then when he was finished, he went home”. It didn’t explain who he was, where he was, where he was going, where he was suppose to be, if he was with friends, why he was there, what he was doing or anything else - it’s like there’s no point, purpose, reason &/or understanding of what exactly is suppose to be happening. All I know with this game is: A few of us were given a device that needs to be taken from Inverness to Geneva, while others want it and are hunting us. And Charlie is guiding us to the location. It would actually be good if we got more for our money, such as: 1) items that can be seen in a database, instead of being words on a map. 2) Add more to the story or more audio to current episodes, so we don’t have to wait so many days to hear each of them. 3) The items that can be collected (documents, files, photos etc), should mean something or be a part of what’s occurring - it just looks like random rubbish that has no purpose, like the collectables on the map. 4) The challenges and episodes should be in real-time and shouldn’t take so many days to complete. If it says 72 minutes, it shouldn’t take 72 to 720 hours - if there’s 10 items to collect/spot, then actually make it move to those spots when we’re walking. Just making the pointer (player) move with the recommended amount of time, would help and would make actual sense..Version: 2.0.3

The WalkI must say I am disappointed. I thought I could walk with my iPhone in my pocket and it would perhaps alert me when I'd reached checkpoints, but no, I need to carry my iPhone in my hand and constantly check it and manage it with bare hands. It's winter! It's -20 C! I froze my hands, dropped my iPhone in a snow bank when I fell on the ice, missed all the points of interest in the dark, (It gets dark at 3 PM) killed the battery, then lost all the data for my return trip. Now I can't seem to grasp how to even proceed with the third episode. I'd rather just simply go for a walk without the bother and frustration..Version: 1.0.1

Great writing but no musicI loved Zombie run, and this seems to have a similar high level of writing, but without the option of integration of listening to music and auto play when you've walked to goals, you're stuck getting your phone out of your pocket constantly to check if you can get the next bit. renders it unusable for me..Version: 1.3

Great idea but missing key featuresSomeone else wrote essentially the same review but I’d like to uplift it: this is a great idea and I love the Zombies, Run (ZR) app but there are some key differences between these two apps that make this one more difficult to use. (1) instead of automatically playing the story clip when you’ve gone the requisite amount of steps, which happens in ZR, you have to actually click on the speaker icon. This means that I have to be on my phone every couple of minutes, and for the bonus features you have to be on your phone even more. I’m usually walking my dog or just trying to take in the scenery so this makes me less able to use the app. Even if this were an option you could turn on in settings (to automatically play the clips), that would be great. (2) in ZR, you can connect your audio so that it plays in the background and is dimmed when the story line goes, and then comes back on automatically when the story clips are over. In this app, there are several minutes of silence and I usually listen to podcasts or music while I’m walking so the silence is kind of boring. If the story clips played continuously, that would be great but then it’s essentially just a podcast. Just having the option to hook up my music to the app so i can listen to both would be wonderful. This is already how ZR works so I’m not sure why it’s not included here. Otherwise, great story and the quality of the audio clips is amazing. Thanks!.Version: 2.6.2

Logical Next Steps...It is disappointing that this app has not been upgraded to work on the Apple Watch. It seems like a logical pairing. Something for future consideration.Version: 1.3

Beckyd33I wanted to love this app but am finding it quite un-user friendly. The story is great and I love the idea, but find it annoying that even when you've walked enough to listen to several parts in a row, they don't play automatically, you have to select the next bit to play. The map interface is clever but makes it difficult to see which is the next part to listen to. Also even though I walked 43 minutes today, because I hadn't selected the next episode it doesn't seem to have counted towards getting to hear it. The 43 minutes seems to have been added to an episode I already finished. Great concept but difficult to use..Version: 1.2

MehhhI am a huge Zombies, Run! and Superhero fan and was excited to try this game but I was disappointed. The story is great and very entertaining but everything else is sucky. The app itself is difficult to learn to use (no tutorial) and actually listening to the story is not easy. You also have to choose the option to keep your GPS on all the time even when not using the app and that uses my precious data. It would be great if there was a step counter but alas... The app also has a ton of glitches and runs super slow if it doesn't just turn itself off mid-mission. If you are on the fence to get The Walk, I'd choose no.Version: 1.3

DisappointingAfter the thrill of Zombies, Run! this was a let down. It's not intuitive at all to use, and it took me an entire episode of missed checkpoints and features to figure out even the basics. The app essentially requires that you have your phone in hand at all times, which simply isn't practical. I just started a "challenge," but the instructions were unclear and now I can't seem to go back, which means I'm likely to fail the challenge and have to go back. I'm looking forward to the return of Zombies, Run! I the spring. I like it much better..Version: 1.0.1

Great Idea with fatal flawsFirst off I love the idea and the story is fun and interesting. It keeps me motivated to go out on a walk so I can continue the story. However, it has a few fatal flaws. First, you have to stare at your phone while you are out walking. Don’t make me do that! Let me enjoy my walk and be aware of my surroundings. It needs to auto play the story clips or at least ping me that there is audio to play. Second, it is a horrible battery killer. I can barely make it through a 30-45 minute walk with the app running. Yesterday I had 97% battery when I started 35 minutes later I finished with 1% to spare. Last, after the third episode it requires a monthly subscription. Apparently it used to be a one-time charge of $5 but now it’s $5.99 a month. No thanks, I don’t want another leech sucking on me. Conclusion, I really like the idea but the execution is poor. So instead I found the adapted story as a podcast of the same name and I’m just playing an episode of that when I go out for a walk..Version: 2.5.4

Great idea, frustrating sometimesLove the idea, fun story with good acting. Motivates me to want to walk more. Just wish there was more content for the length of each episode. I would enjoy it a lot more and feel more engaged in the world and story if the audio clips were longer, or more frequent. It's really frustrating how the story is told in such little bursts so far apart..Version: 1.2

Good idea, but flawed.I'm trying to show this app some goodwill as I absolutely love Zombies, Run! and use it daily. However, this still needs work. Why? 1) No music integration - what if my headphones are in and I'm walking? Wouldn't it be nice if the story unfolded without me having to tell it? Also, if you are playing music, the story kills the music off whilst it's playing, but doesn't bring it back. 2) The app really hasn't been tracking my activity very well at all. Just walked for 15 minutes. The little dot where I am moved about half a minute. Now have walked for 20 mins today and the little dot isn't even at 2 mins. 3) It also seems to gobble battery regardless of what's said in the notes. 4) Sometimes, I've gone into the app after walking and it seems to have forgotten that I started the episode, so have to kick it back into action again. NOTE: I've changed phones. Now on a 6S from the 5S I had previously. The app has lost all responsiveness and the screen seems to update once every 15 seconds so you can't scroll through the map or get it to do... anything really. Any chance of an update?.Version: 1.3

WalkerI am really enjoying it but sometimes it’s not clear what you have to do like avoid the solidiers of collect them!.Version: 2.5.4

Buy zombie run or zombie 5k it's much betterI agree with the other reviewer who said this a waste of money. You are not able to play your playlist while using this app. You have to play the story line whereas zombie run, even zombie run 5k it's plays automatically. I guess I just could not resist giving six to start more money. Anyway if your not willing to pay the $7.99 a month for zombie run. I recommend buying zombie 5k instead. Don't be intimidated, you will walk/jog 3x a wk only and by the end you will run 5k. Since I finished 5k, I wanted to try their other app. Really this app still needs work. I guess their main focus is zombie run, since it makes more money (subscription). Hopefully this review helps you out. Wish I can get my $2.99 back :(.Version: 1.3

Massive disappointmentA friend told me about Zombie's run, so when I saw this I thought it was a given for quality. What a terrible terrible experience you've cooked up here. The app looks like it was designed explicitly to cause you to squint to find the controls and then rub salt in if you're coloured blind. Moreover, who's idea was it to make you get your phone out to listen to the next part of the story! I'm walking! It's in my pocket. So's my music. Why can't you do a simple Chain like story plays -> music comes back in -> unlock -> music fades -> play story -> music back in, ad nauseum. God awful experience.Version: 1.2

BuggyAs others have said, it's buggy. I still enjoy the story, but sometimes it basically resets itself. Thankfully, it doesn't lose all data, so it works if you check your phone often enough, then restart the mission as needed. The story itself is fun and engaging. You find notes and such in each chapter, some which provide clues about the story..Version: 1.3

Great story, could be more user friendlyLove the story, also love my Zombies apps. What's annoying about this one is have to stop and fiddle with my phone every so often to manually play the audio clips. It would be great if they played automatically at certain points like they do in Zombies. Also, the dead quiet between clips with no sync to my playlist has become an annoyance, as after every clip I have to flip between apps to play music. I was surprised and sad that the other apps by this company have this feature but this one doesn't..Version: 1.3

Barely usableThe story is fine, but the usability makes it virtually worthless. Simple operations like scrolling take from 5 to 10 seconds, and it's not even doing anything hard. Just updating a single location on a flat (non-3D) map, maintaining a timer, and checking with location services & fitness libraries so see if you are moving. The only time it is usable is immediately after rebooting the phone and then only briefly.'.Version: 1.3

Current version too buggyI'm enjoying the story, and wanting to find out the next part does encourage me to walk a little more (for example if I see I'm only 5 minutes away from the next story segment, I will get up and walk around the house until I get it) than I would have ordinarily. But the app is pretty buggy (I'm using iPhone 6S, iOS 9.3.2 currently but it has been this way for the last few iterations of iOS 9). My main issue is, that after opening the app about 3 times, on the 3rd try, the animations slow down drastically and are choppy, and the app is very slow to respond to touch screen input. Killing the app and restarting it does take care of it, but it gets annoying pretty fast. Also, restarting the app remembers my current place in the map but it resets the arrow/path chooser so several times I accidentally ended up on the shorter path and missed out on the collectible. Overall I enjoy this app, but wish it would be updated to fix the lagging issue..Version: 1.3

What is this about?!After reading the reviews thought this app sounded as if it was worth downloading. Umm no - it is, in my opinion, boring. The voices grate on your nerves and the story was totally uninteresting. As a pedometer for steps and time walked it seems ok but then I can get that on my apple health and other apps that are not as expensive as this app. I just don't get the point of this app at all..Version: 1.3

Good app with a hitchI have only had the app for three days and in that time completed three chapters. However at some point today the ZombieLink app stopped working and now its not linking back up. I’ve paid for ZombieRun and on the first day with The Walk all the lock buttons turned to download buttons, but now they’ve changed back to locks..Version: 2.5.1

Buy an audiobook insteadThis app is advertised as a story (and game) to listen to whilst walking but you have to get your phone out every 5 minutes to unlock 1 minute of content. It would be much better if it autoplayed as you unlock new sections of the story, preferably with music integrated as you spend most of your walk with silence otherwise. Tedious and disappointing..Version: 1.3

DisappointedVery disappointed with this. I personally don't need an app swearing at me. I also don't love that it is buggy about tracking my movement. It also is a huge battery drainer..Version: 1.2

Needs an updateSave your money, skip this app until it's updated. I use the Zombies, Run app from the same company and was excited to try this app out too. Waste of time and money. If you have one of the newest iOS versions skip this app as it doesn't run well. The entire UI is super slow, it crashes, and does NOT play well with music players. It's a shame because the story seemed neat, but the app is almost unusably unresponsive..Version: 1.3

So much potentialWhat could be great is just poor. Instructions are lack lustre and no interaction between targets. I don’t know whether I can listen to my own music to fill in the gaps between missions or whatever. Tried once and reset as instructions were poor. Tried a second time and being honest thoroughly dull. Don’t bother.Version: 2.6.3

Very buggyVery buggy. Would not recommend this app till it gets an update..Version: 1.3

Motivating, but too much down time in the storyThis ap is a great motivator to walk because the story is engaging. I wish the story were more continuous during the walk. It takes too long to get the next segment, even if I replay old segments in the interim even if I change the settings to make the walk “shorter.” I realize it’s not a book on tape, but an 8 minute walk between new audio segments when each segment is only a few minutes long is too much of a break and interrupts the flow of the story. The ap is pretty old, so I imagine they won’t fix this. It also likely isn’t a problem for people who leave the ap on the background all day and listen to the story later, not during a walk..Version: 2.6.2

DisappointingAs a fan of Zombies, Run! I was enthusiastic to try this new app from the same creator but I was most disappointed with it. You can't just put it in your pocket and listen - you have to constantly watch and tap the app. How can you walk properly while doing that? I also miss the music between the storyline that you get in Zombies. I didn't even finish the first instalment and won't be using it again..Version: 1.1

Great concept but...The audio and design of The Walk is fantastic, however the actual pedometer feature alongside that of the GPS is highly inaccurate. After completing an hour long walk it had only recorded 11min of actual walking. Clearly there is some issues with the pedometer and GPS which if fixed would mean this is a 5-star review, until then however, the most I could give is only 3-stars..Version: 1.0.1

Harder to use than it should beThe voice acting is top notch, as you would expect if you’ve played Zombies, Run! Some of the voice actors are also the same. However, the interface is not always intuitive. If you care about collecting the badges, you need to monitor the app and tap on hard-to-see landscape features (i.e., tiny, off-white squares that might not be easy to spot on lighter backgrounds). I’d rather focus on walking and not on my screen. Additionally, I’ve run into issues with the app not recognizing that I’m a subscribing member twice now, which locks me out of all missions beyond the first five. It really shouldn’t be this hard to use the app. Please address these issues!.Version: 2.5.4

Keeps losing progressSeems like it would be good if it didn’t keep losing progress..Version: 2.6.3

Interesting idea but with problematic implementationThe idea behind this app, and narrative-driven experience powered by your walking, is interesting and the story itself has an interesting hook. However the app itself is the biggest letdown of the experience, with frequent slowdowns and apparent crashes that really get frustrating on my fully updated iphone 6+. (Tip: if the map screen is laggy, close the app and relaunch it. When it's running again, it'll appear to have lost your progress - either wait or just close and relaunch again, and it *should* resume your progress, but YMMV) I'm going to stick with it in the hope that the performance issues will get patched out..Version: 1.3

Great story but frustrating to navigate the appNo matter which episode I’m on, when I open the app, it opens to episode 1. That means I have to swipe a lot to get to my current episode. Also, the episodes have longer, optional paths. I always pick them because I enjoy the extra bits and they’re not that difficult to complete. However, a few times I’ll open the app to check my progress and I’ll see that it switched back to the shorter path. I’ve walked past the fork so I can’t change it. The only way to complete it is to do the episode over and then I still run the risk of having it swap back on me..Version: 2.5.4

It’s ok, but needs work to be great.Downloaded yesterday, but I won’t be keeping it on my phone. The voice acting is great, and overall story seems good however I don’t want to fiddle with this when I am out taking my kids for a walk. I want to be able to just put in one headphone and have it play automatically. There is also no way (that I have found) to pause it in between actual walks. It just constantly updates. I don’t want to tracking my “walks” just in the house cleaning and such..Version: 2.0.3
