Yoga Studio: Classes and Poses for Negative User Reviews

Was great but not anymoreLong time customer, the app used to be great. Now I cannot access without a subscription this is terrible. I read a response by developer that says you can press restore to go back to use the app without subscription but when I tried it says restore failed. Why ruin a great app very disappointed.Version: 4.0

Difficult new layout for original owners of appSo my initial review left me upset due to me loosing access to my content, which I purchased at a fixed cost, once they updated their app with a ton of more premium subscription based content. There was no notification of the changes to the owners of the application and when I submitted a review, like many of the other upset reviewers for this app have stated, they notified me to update the app which still did not resolve my issue. However, I did fix the issue by deleting the app and reinstalling it. My current complaint with the app is not the new content but the cluttered presentation I have to sift through to get to what I purchased years ago. Being an early adopter and buying the original app leaves me feeling like I’ve been dusted in the red carpet to get walk on by customers shelling out monthly subscriptions. To the developers, first of all, I appreciate your communication to the not so happy customers such as myself. It would be great if you could separate the Gaiam content vs you original content in such a way that makes it easier for finding classes and organizing content..Version: 4.1.4

Can’t access new contentI would like to give this a 5 star review but I paid $16.99 CAN to purchase the new content to try for a month such as Rodney Yee. Unfortunately I can’t access the new content even after I paid 🤷🏻‍♀️..Version: 4.3.21

FreeIs there no free classes anymore?.Version: 4.3.33

I'm outWhile they have made tokenistic changes to their instructors, this is still a highly culturally appropriated skinny white chick exercise yoga platform. I got tired of the same old. My body is not represented here. Had enough. After several years being a user, I realized that this was damaging to me. I am out. Cancelled my subscription..Version: 4.3.28

Terrible for old customersI have had this app for years. Used to have access to all the content. Went to use it and have access to nothing now. Went to “restore” and it no longer works. Terrible for one of the longest standing customers such as myself..Version: 4.3.3

MehIf i download one more “free” app that tries to get me to buy a membership the moment i open it im going to throw my phone into a vat of acid then set that vat of acid on fire.Version: 4.4.14

Don’t waste your timeUsed to be a great app but now everything is subscription and no option to do the basic workouts. Head to YouTube instead..Version: 4.4.10

Good yoga app but has irritationsI’ve been using this app for years, first unpaid and then as a subscriber. For yoga I think it is excellent for guided sessions. However it is very irritating to be prompted to add push notifications every time I open the app. I can only select ok or maybe later. Now they have introduced comments 😩 I don’t want half my screen taken up with “great” , “amazing” and blocking stuff I do want to see. If you was to add features great but make them OPTIONAL. If I pay an £80 subscription I want to be able to turn this OFF and I definitely do not want to be irritated by this nonsense just before my yoga class 🤷‍♂️ This would be 4/5 stars for yoga but for me this is unacceptable in an expensive app so that’s why the rating is 3 stars.Version: 4.3.25

FrustratedHaving discovered this app long before it became trendy or dared to become a subscription based model, I could not say anything bad about it. As a blind user the way it seamlessly integrated with Apple’s voice-over was particularly valuable, not to mention how well done the narration of the classes themselves - allowing the user not to have to watch the screen while practising their poses. Which when considering the true functionality of yoga, is what makes this app stand above the rest. However after recently changing phones, The restore button not working, and several unanswered emails regarding my purchase I have nothing good to say about this app. Not only is the customer service appalling, but the app doesn’t work quite as easily with voice-over as it once did. Don’t update and definitely don’t buy it..Version: 4.3.2

Use to love it until you tripled the price of itI use to live this app. I paid for it when it first came out and even thought I paid for it I still have to pay a subscription to use it which is a rip off..Version: 4.2.6

Stole it but gave it back only to take it away again....The new content should be under a new app. The original content should stay with the original app for people who obtained this app years ago and have been using it successfully and happily as it was. Now you’ve taken away any other option other than beginner or 10 minute classes which is so unfair. It was perfect just the way it was and I didn’t need or want anything more or extra. I already subscribe to an online service for yoga and do not need this app for that. This app was great for when you are short on time but don’t want to do the same practice each and every session. Now you have successfully ruined it by updating and “upgrading “ it. Really weak and lame by all involved- extremely unhappy and dissatisfied. I did as was suggested in your response but unfortunately the same still exists as there are no advanced classes at all like there used to be and there are one or two 20 minute classes but there are no 30 minute classes etc. it’s 10 minutes beginner or intermediate relaxation -quick yoga fix – the rest of the good stuff is gone..Version: 4.0.6

Subscription now? Really?I purchased this app years ago and like other people have said, loved it so immensely that I ended up recommending it to everyone I knew! It’s easy to follow routines helped me gain flexibility and strength at home. The fact that it is now subscription based, with absolutely no acknowledgement of the previous fee paid for the app or the fact that it ever was non-subscription, is ridiculous to me. And the subscription is not even on the cheap side! Just seems silly and manipulative, especially considering the large popularity it had accrued in its first incarnation. Needless to say I do not recommend this app to friends anymore..Version: 4.0.6

Not impressedNot a well written app. Most of the features do not work. Editing info is inconclusive… overall unhappy ..Version: 4.4.4

Constantly logged out of the appI have had this app for years and had paid a fee to get this initially. Was very happy with the content and practice available. However, the problem began ever since the developer decided to charge subscription. Initially I was logged out and after repeated emails to the customer support and waiting for months the issue was resolved and I could access the original content of the app. Now recently ( a week back) the app has again logged me out. I am asked to login and my details don’t work. I can understand I might have forgotten the password but when I provide my email details for the password, it says that this email is not found in their records and I should try again. I have tried putting both email addresses I have and still get the same response. It is clear that there is some discrepancy at their end. I am sorely disappointed as after paying for the app I have to constantly face these issues and can’t access the app when desired. Why do I have to update my login details when I don’t need to? Why is the app asking me to subscribe when I have already paid for the app? It is clear that greed has taken over the developer and they don’t value their original customers and want everyone to subscribe. This is appalling..Version: 4.2.8

Why?I have been using this app, happily, for over 3 years now. Then today, it’s making me pay for a subscription... as per your responses to other reviewers, I tried to ‘restore’ without success... so disappointed.Version: 4.0

Still unhappy...!My previous review related to the switch to a subscription based model, which as an original purchaser was dubious practice and unfair. This was eventually sorted out as the force to subscribe was against Apple Developers rules, and our, ‘legacy’ users access restored. Broke a lot of faith and trust in the developers, but we still got to use the app we had paid for... Unfortunately every update seems flawless for subscribers but causes untold issues for us oldsters, you know, the people that used the app from the beginning, spread the word, gave the app it’s incredible rating, you know, the people that supported its development. I had no access for the best part of two weeks... And subsequently when the app was patched and access was regained the painstaking custom classes I created for my personal practice had been deleted... Bravo Yoga Studio developers, many thanks!.Version: 4.0.2

Not the cleanest upgradeI’ve been using the app everyday for the last three months. It’s one of the better yoga apps for sure. The upgrade from version 3 wasn’t that clean. I had previously purchased the “full content upgrade” early on in version 1 and that would restore all the original yoga programs through version 3. With version 4, that purchase will not restore, so I was forced to sign up for the subscription model to access the app content. I also had all my yoga sessions tracked in the calendar for the last three months, which was nice to refer to to track my consistency. That data did not make it through the upgrade from version 3 to version 4, so now I have an empty calendar view. I’m assuming that data is now lost for good. It would be nice for the developer to honor my original upgrade purchase and unlock the content, but they may be forcing everyone to the subscription model; many developers are doing that now so they have a more sustainable revenue. The new version of the app seems to work well with the exception of a few rough edges in the fit and finish department – some of the images used in parts of the app don’t look optimized for large Retinal displays like the iPad Pro 12 or the iPhone X. Given the issues with the upgrade and restoring pervious purchases, I’m lowering my rating to 3 stars (from 5).Version: 4.0

Used to be My Favorite AppUpdate: I love this app but am disappointed in the new subscription change. I first got this app a few years ago and paid for it then and have had no problems. However, with this new update (4.0) it requires you to pay a monthly subscription, and while I understand this, it’s frustrating considering I paid for the app when I got it and have been using it for years, so I feel disappointed as a long time user. I have tried to restore it, but it keeps telling me “restore failed”. Yet to decide if it’ll be worth it to pay for a subscription. Original: I did yoga petty regularly a few years ago, but started to do it less and less as I got busier. Having this app is so convenient because there are so many things you can do with it! Whether you want to go through a whole class, just try out some poses, or even meditate, this app has you covered. It's relaxing, pushes me, and is an enjoyable addition to my day. I LOVE this app!.Version: 4.0

Too bad they liedUpdate: thank you again for your reply. Turns out the 42 sessions were removed from the studio by the next to last update. I did find them with your tip, so thanks for that. Perhaps steps can be taken to ensure future ‘updates’ do not remove existing classes from the original users. Took almost an hour to restore the 42 missing sessions. Have upgraded to 2 stars based on customer support. Update: thank you for your reply. I have NO 60 minute classes remaining in the studio and only one 30 minute class remains. I purchased this app in 9/13 and loved it for years! Then they started having problems with updates screwing up the app, and then went to subscription based services and didn’t grandfather in any of the original purchasers. They said they weren’t going to mess with any of the “old” classes, only that we wouldn’t get any of the new additions or subscription updates. They lied. Now every time they do an update, they remove a couple of the original classes from the studio. Today’s update removed the last of the 30 minute classes, previous updates removed all the 60 minute classes. I’m going to stop doing any updates to this app before I lose all of my originally purchased features..Version: 4.1.3

DisappointedApp seems purposefully designed to make it difficult to figure out subscriptions because there doesn’t actually seem to be anywhere in the app to look at the different subscription models and what you get access to. You have to be prompted for a subscription by the app by trying to access a paid resource. I looked everywhere in settings on the app and the closest thing they have is the Subscription Info section which basically tells you how a subscription works but doesn’t actually provide details or give you an option to select one. The only place you can actually do it is through the Purchases section of your iCloud settings AFTER you’ve already signed up for a trial subscription which conveniently is not explained anywhere on the app. They defaulted me to the yearly subscription so I am grateful I found it before my trial ran out. Wasn’t satisfied with the courses either. I am new to yoga so I started with the beginner courses that did a pretty good job of explaining the starter poses in 10 min sessions but then after a few classes jump immediately into stuff I’m not experienced with in a 30 min session that went way too fast for me to figure out what I was supposed to be doing and added tools to the workout I conveniently couldn’t find out would be used in the next class until after I got my subscription. I’ve cancelled my trial and will be seeking other resources..Version: 4.4.1

Yoga Studio or Big BanksDishonest, irresponsible, lack of accountability and transparency. Yoga Studio has gone from being a beacon of what a Yoga app should be to a major disappointment and empty promises. My iPad can't update to Yoga Studio 10 so I, as do many people, have no access to the App and lessons I purchased when the App was a fledging marvel. I am continually being reassured ' we are looking into restoring access and thank you for your patience'. I've been waiting a month and the problem hasn't been rectified! I am concerned Yoga Studio will also increase subscriptions because just like Big Banks they are able to do so without impunity. Very Disappointing..Version: 4.4.14

A one time good appI have both owned and rented this app for 2/3 years. When it worked it was helpful. I initially bought this and used until the developer decided to “upgrade”. This involved adding extra videos and Asanas, unfortunately the upgrade failed and they send emails explaining you had to use the restore function if you didn’t want to rent the new version. The restore failed and they updating the software advising to use restore, this happened more than 3 times each one I tried failed with me and from what I can see with many others. I bit the bullet and decided to rent their new version, it was under $2 a month and gave extra content. They sent an email stating I could upgrade again to a fuller version at $9 but I ignored this offer. Final straw came today when I could not access without an email and password. Entered the email and pressed “forgot password”. Message received saying “oh no, something has gone wrong, try again”, only to go into a continuous loop. Unsubscribed. Don’t really need this app but it was a nice to have at one time..Version: 4.2.5

Best yoga appIt was devastating to suddenly find out about the subscription system after having used the app for years. I tried the restore button several times but it kept failing. And finally I gave in out of frustration. The subscription is still much cheaper than going to local classes anyways and I love love love the original classes and routines. They are so calming and well structured. Yoga Studio really has been a stellar app for home yoga. But it was disappointing to find out that there isn’t much of new content yet. I understand the need to expand the content and the app but wish it were done more gracefully with significantly better platform or content. Before the update I was satisfied with the same classes over and over because i thought that was what I paid for as a one time purchase package. With the new subscription system, i expect more classes and routines to be updated frequently and continuously. But still, Yoga Studio has been the best home yoga app and I hope this update will help the app to keep the best title..Version: 4.0.1

They got greedy😢I’m a Chiropractor with a private practice in a Yoga Studio. For years I used and LOVED Yoga Studio. I recommended it to all of my patients as well as everyone in the studio as their go-to app to use at home or while traveling. The original cost was very justifiable for the quality of the content you received. Unfortunately for the new version I cannot say the same. Honestly I feel robbed, if they gave the option of having access to the original version, which I paid money for, as well as an option to do the new subscription version then I would still highly recommend this app. But not only did they steal my money, they also stole one of my favorite apps. The volume of content on here now is minimal compared to what they had before. The flow of the app is a lot less efficient. In general the app just lost what made it special (cost, simplicity, efficiency) just because another company saw how great it was and knew it’d be easy to monetize. At the current price points I can not recommend this to my patients or fellow yogis and it breaks my heart because it was really sooo good..Version: 4.1.3

Best yoga app we have tried... but disappointed with the updatePurchased this yoga app years ago (like many others) and have loved using it. My wife and I have done 100s of classes at this point and they are still our go to for relaxing yoga at home. I love how customizable the app has been with respect to classes, poses, and even music. I recently updated the app and was very sad to find that they had moved to a subscription model for all new content. This would not be too bad on its own, as I have wonderfully benefitted from updates over the years with new content, and I've long thought the developers of the app deserve to be paid for their new work. However, I am particularly disappointed that I am unable to download any of the content that I previously had access to, unless I had already placed those classes in my studio. This is particularly frustrating as there are certain types of classes where I had not progressed to intermediate or advanced, and it now seems I will not have the chance to. I hope this can be rectified in future updates, as I have been a huge fan of the app previously and have recommended it to others..Version: 4.1.2

UPDATED: Yoga convert (but not happy now!)Updated: paid for this app as a one-off payment when it was initially released and then got locked out of all content due to the updated monthly fees. I think they should have made some of the content accessible to people who already paid to have the app, and for that reason I'm deducting 2 stars as the developers have thought little of their existing users. Previous review: As someone who has been to yoga classes before but is still relatively new to practising, this app has helped me understand the true physical and spiritual benefits of practising regularly. I live in Hanoi and yoga can be expensive to access here, so after purchasing a mat I'm able to complete calming yet dynamic yoga sessions at home in my room. I now try to do at least 15 minutes a day and actually look forward to rolling my mat out after a busy day at work. The app is accessible for everyone from beginners through to yoga 'masters' and gives video illustrations of the whole session which makes it easy to follow and provides you with just the right about of guidance. For anyone looking to start exploring the benefits of yoga or simply wanting to develop their inner yogi, this app is worth every penny..Version: 3.8.0

Amazing. Educational. Motivating**update: The subscription fee isn't my problem. If you charge for new classes and features, fine. But, it's basically bait and switch on the app I already bought. I should be refunded my purchase or allowed to continue with original functionality. I did not update anything and this automatically has killed the app and is unusable without a subscription. I love this app! Here's what I like: the beginner studio takes you rough a variety of poses and gives you tips as to proper positioning and things to do to enhance the moves as well as what to watch for to avoid injury. I love that the moves graduate to intermediate and then to advanced, though I'm not to that level yet. I love that there is a bank of positions that you can wTch and try individually without doing a whole class. I like that there are classes of different length which encourages me to yoga even when I'm short on time. The music and calming voice is perfect for allowing me to calm my mind nd spirit. I like that there is a calendar that tracks my yoga days and classes performed. I have been doing the beginner classes for about 2 months now and I definitely feel better, more flexible and stronger. The classes download quickly and don't take up much space on my iPad. This app is phenomenal. I have never Been happier with an app purchase than I am with this..Version: 4.0.1

Not impressedI bought the app and have enjoyed using it. Recently they have introduced a subscription model and I have lost access as a previously paid member. Not impressed..Version: 4.0

Avoid or pay up frontUnless and misleading - EVERYTHING on this app needs you to pay/subscribe - I am happy to pay for a good app but I want to know it is worth it first - and I really object to ones that say “includes In- App purchases” when they really mean “subscribe or get nothing”! After spending too many useless minutes trying to get some sort of trial of ANY class to work & just getting subscription notices, I gave up and deleted the app- I will go find another that is more transparent and user friendly!.Version: 4.1.3

Restore doesn't work.I paid for this app before the subscription model was implemented. I redownloaded it this morning after a few years and was faced with the "give us more money" rigamarole. I went to the dev website (which is broken and difficult to navigate) and to the FAQ, which says that people who previously purchased the app on iOS can restore functionality by, quote, "Please utilize the restore button located on the subscription screen (top right corner) to gain access to original collections." Friends, there is no subscription screen in the top right corner, either on the developer website OR the app! On the app, under settings (top LEFT), there is a "Subscription Info" tab that contains instructions on how to purchase a subscription, and finally, at the bottom of settings there is a "Restore Purchases" button! Problem solved, right? Except the button is dead. You click on it and literally nothing happens. Like, am I being gaslit right now? This feels like an elaborate runaround to make people think they can't get a refund because they still have access to the original app, while also preventing them from having access to the original app at all!.Version: 4.4.16

Bought the app now I can't use itI bought the app and al of a sudden they don't let me use it any more because it's moved to a subscription based model..Version: 3.7.0

TOTAL SCAM!!!Yet again, the money grabbers at Yoga Studio have locked out its loyal users who paid full price upfront. Now we have to pay an additional fee each month for something we’ve already bought. Restore fails to work... AGAIN... funny how that keeps happening when the subscription button works fine. Don’t take the latest update and don’t get involved with this app if you haven’t already. There are so many other decent yoga apps out there who are happy to provide you with the content you’ve already paid for. All Yoga Studio want is to get you hooked and then force you to pay more and more. They’re the App Store equivalent of the neighbourhood crack dealer...who’d have thought there’d be another software company that could make EA look ethical!.Version: 4.0.3

IT staff need to admit the limitations, cannot get all the classes on MacBook Pro with the M1 chipI have been using Yoga Studio (YS) since 2017 and was really happy receiving it on my iPad until my iPad filled up (YS files along with others were big) then January 2021 I got a MacBook Pro with its M1 chip. To my horror I discovered that YS on the MacBook was missing at least 40 classes. I wrote to customer service and some classes were made available. Then I noticed that the moving banner on YS site was advertising classes with Kimmy. I couldn’t get these so I wrote again with no success. Very recently I noticed Warmup classes for Walkers. I cannot get them either. No amount of writing to customer service seems to work. I suggest that it is from the IT department I need to get an answer. Last week I got a new iPad and guess what? I can get all the classes on that device! Please customer service, admit that not all devices can deliver your classes..Version: 4.4.4

Paid for it and it stopped workingI bought this app a long time back and suddenly it stopped working and is asking me to pay again. Restore purchases link does nothing..Version: 4.4.18

I already paid once.I’ve purchased yoga studio years ago to help with flexibility and core strength and used it intermittently as I needed. I decided to jump back on the app to find that I no longer have access to all of the basic classes that I once could use because you have changed to a subscription model. I really don’t think it’s fair to ask someone who purchased your product on the understanding I would have access to several set classes and features for different purposes to then be told I need to pay more. This is such a great app I was happy to pay the original price but to be a loyal customer and then get told I know longer have access to the features I paid for in the beginning is really disappointing. Ironically this is bad form..Version: 4.3.39

UnethicalI had purchased this app before and now I have to pay to use it! The restore option does not work as indicated in your response to other reviewer. You should have launched another app for your subscription instead. This is unethical! It’s a shame to see this in the yoga business..Version: 4.4.4

Paid full price for this app and now they changed to subscription without any noticeI bought this app and paid full price for it because I knew I didn’t had to sign up for a subscription. Last year they decided to change it to a subscription plan, and without any notice they upgraded the app. You expect that at least they will advise old costumers or provide unlock access for those who already spent money. But instead errors pops out saying that I was unable to sign up, obviously they want me to pay for the monthly subscription. Very disappointed with how this was done. Lost another costumer and will not recommend this app to any of my friends. I wish I could give 0 star rating. Karma is a bit*** and I believe their greediness will come back to bit them..Version: 4.0.3

What’s happened to this app?I’ve had this app for a good few years and paid for it but no longer seem to have access to all of the content I previously had. I have a long term health problem which means I can’t always do as much yoga as I’d like so there are times when I don’t login to the app for a few weeks, however, having paid for it in the past, I expect to be able to access everything I could before. The content I am able to access is brilliant and the absolute best yoga app I’ve come across in the app store. Instructions are clear, videos show the poses well and the variety of yoga sessions to suit my needs has been excellent, but that no longer seems to be the case. It seems greed has got in the way and the app developer now wants everyone to subscribe monthly regardless of whether you’ve previously paid for the app. Not all of us can afford a monthly subscription. However small it may seem to some people, for others it’s a cost that we can’t justify, especially after already paying for the app in the past. To say I’m sorely disappointed would be an understatement. The only reason I haven’t rated it 1 star is because the content I can access is really very good and I wish I could still access everything I had in the past..Version: 4.1.2

Update destroyed trust in the brandFirst, like other reviewers have said, this used to be hands down the best app on my phone. I recommended it to literally anyone who would listen. I paid a flat fee for it up front, and used it on a regular basis. But then at some point they forced an update that locked me out of my account for several weeks. After loads of emails and updates, they finally have the app functioning again, but I have not been able to recover my custom classes. I’m really frustrated with this whole experience because they made a very similar transition on their meditation app but without all the nonsense and without blocking you from using it for any length of time. I understand asking us to pay for content, but you can’t change the terms of your purchase agreement without some kind of advance notice. Based on our original agreement, I owned the app as it previously existed on my phone. The original app experience made me think quite highly of Gaiam - a brand that really wasn’t on my radar before. But after this whole mess, I’m really disappointed and feel like they don’t work with integrity to spring this kind of change on a product that’s already been purchased without requiring opt-in agreement prior to any changes. I won’t be buying any other Gaiam products anytime soon..Version: 4.0.8

Not impressedHave used this app for years after paying for it and now I have to subscribe and pay again? Tried to restore and it keeps saying restore failed. Not impressed.Version: 4.0

Meditations don’t work nowClick to use the mediations, they close the app, they don’t work..Version: 4.4.18

Ripped offThey took $100 from my bank account when signing up for one free week. Literally signed up today and they took it out of my account today. Don’t recommend this app to anyone go on YouTube instead..Version: 4.3.48

Good content but...Good content and easy to follow but paid for lifetime membership when it first came out which has not been honoured..Version: 4.3.36

Started well, then went downhillAt first I loved yoga studio. It began as a free app, then it became full of commercials. I moved to the paid version. Now they want you pay additional fees for every class within the paid version! What a hoax!.Version: 4.4.19

Don’t waste your time!!! This app is SCAMCustomer service does not care about helping you. Don’t waste your monies here!! Was a good app, had good ppl running it years ago, but the good people are gone as they must have sold it. This is the lowest of yoga apps. Move on. It’s a joke. No support from gaiam. Will be making a full report to Apple to boycott this app. updates changes your access, app crashes when you click settings. What more can go wrong..Version: 4.3.24

Loved it when it first came outWhen I first started using this app it was the only and best app I have ever paid for. I loved (and still do) the different focuses- strength, flexibility, relaxation and combination. It’s allows me have used it so much and it’s been amazing as I am not a fan of yoga classes. Although the content I would rate 5 stars, the app itself has changed quite a lot which I have found a bit confusing. It changed a year or so ago where you had to then pay monthly (£1.79) which I thought was fine because I used it so much. In the few months, I have found it has changed again and I don’t seem to be able to download any new content with paying..Version: 4.1.3

Misleading pricingI was disappointed to find that it shows as a free app with in app purchases... until I installed it, created a password & account. Then it tells me how much it’s going to cost me :( There are so many poor apps out there that I won’t purchase anything until I’ve tried it commitment free If you’d been upfront with cost & offered a free two week basic access (BEFORE forcing me to choose a plan) so I can see if it’s as good as advertised I might be a client..Version: 4.3.28

Don’t love endless requests to buy subscriptionI am a long time user, and must say that this app has helped me to practice yoga at home with short lessons. I was really irritated when they went to a subscription model and that they locked me out of the classes that I had bought, but that has since been fixed. I am a pretty simple user and don’t really need all the new content that they have posted, so I have stayed away from subscription and just kept what is working for me. I must say that every time I click on new content that might be interesting, the app takes me directly to offering the subscription model - doesn’t tell me what the class is or what it is about. It just begs me to convert to a subscription. Since I am such a simple user, I might be interested in buying a series - maybe desk yoga, but don’t need 90% of the new content offered. I was going to recommend this app to a friend of mine, but didn’t feel comfortable because I didn’t want her to come back and tell me that she was hounded to buy a subscription. It was much better when you could just buy the app at one price like I did, or if you could buy what you needed and not have to pay for stuff that you won’t use via a subscription. Too bad - it was such a nice app at one point..Version: 4.2.2

No longer free :(I’m a legacy user and have tried all the update options I can see in response to other reviewers but I’m constantly asked to pay - “restore” can’t find me. I used this app for years and I love love loved it, but just can’t bring myself to pay the monthly free now. It’s such a shame as over the last few years I’ve completely got out of the habit of yoga because I can’t get along with other apps - Yoga Studio remains the only yoga I enjoy - I’ve tried getting this one back time and time again as I can see other legacy users don’t have to pay but sadly this has never worked for me. Miss this app, gutted they moved to a subscription model. Would have paid a one off £20 or something to have kept it but the subscription is just too expensive for me. Would be 5 stars but 1 star only because I just lost it one day with no warning after updating my contract and handset..Version: 4.4.13

DisappointedI was really excited to try this app, but deeply disappointed when I did. You can only search classes based on “focus” (strength, flexibility, relaxation, etc.) and “level” (beginner, intermediate, advanced). There’s no search through styles (Hathaway, vinyasa, yin, etc.) This was the really disappointing part for me because I’ve been looking for a good online subscription yoga service that offers prenatal classes due to the lack of them in my rural community. I decided to give it a shot and do the intermediate relaxation course, but didn’t even make it halfway through before I was told to lie on my back for a pose (which is a big no no for prenatal). The other big disappointment that could probably be an easy fix for the app developer is the lack of a chrome cast option. If you expect me to pay for your subscription service, I expect to be able to send the picture to a screen bigger than my tiny phone. Overall, I’m sure this app is great for people who are new to yoga. But for people looking for a more intensive experience, I wouldn’t recommend it..Version: 3.7.0

Used to love it now I am just angry and cannot recommend. This used to be one of my favorite apps and some thing I used on a continual basis. They updated it now after I paid for the original which I loved. Rarely do I take the time to write a review but this one was worth it. Now they changed the app and took away the classes I have been using and want me to pay for it again and again in a monthly subscription. They added more functionality which I did not need. Perhaps there should be a more premium subscription service but I would like the original app that I paid for along with the classes that went with it back please. Very displeased. (Old review) Love it, can't think of anything to make it better. I don't write many reviews but this is an app that I continue to go toand I love it sometimes more than some live yoga classes. I love the way you let me customize things and I love the way I can use so many different classes and fit them into the time schedule that I like. The music is good; the voice and cadence is good. This is just really well thought out and put together. Thank you. Namaste..Version: 4.3.28

Sorry too see it succumb to subsI'm another long-time user who paid for this outright. I get that the only real way for an app developer to make money is to either sell more apps, or move to subscriptions. And once you've largely sold to all potential customers, that really leaves subs as the only alternative. But...the folks behind this app don't rely on this solely for income. Or at least, they didn't. They owned a well-regarded and successful yoga studio in California. Maybe things have changed. Maybe Gaiam pushed 'em out, and it's just a money-hungry corporation pushing the change. I'd like to see the option of retaining the original level of access I bought, OR choosing to subscribe for new content. But locking me out of what I bought seems churlish. I will be looking for a new yoga app..Version: 4.0

Great when it worksLately the app has been acting up more and more. Try to install, delete it, reinstall and it just keeps closing out on Apple TV 4K. Can this be addressed please! Needs an update on the Apple TVOS..Version: 4.4.6

Here we go again...UPDATE: Once again, Gaiam rolls out an update for subscribers that fails the people who purchased the app prior to the subscription version. Once again, I have found myself dressed for practice, with my mat rolled out on the floor, while I fiddle with app settings trying to access content for an app I used yesterday without issue. An app that I have actually been using for over a year. Why, oh why, did I leave autoupdate on? My comments below about the app still stand. It’s a good app. I like using it. I’m just a bit fed up with losing access for several days each time there’s an update. Developers: The “Restore Settings” option results in a message saying “failed to restore”. —— Being brand new to yoga, I bought this app on the recommendation of a friend who's been practicing for years. I was not disappointed, and have found the range of entry level classes a great introduction into home practice. The teacher's voice is soothing, and not all distracting during my practice, although the same cannot be said for the music, which is a bit "tinny" and canned sounding. Perhaps the best feature of the app is the ability to preview the poses in each class, a feature that I understand is lost in the most recent subscription-based versions. I decided not to update for this reason..Version: 4.0

Infuriating**UPDATE: 4.0.4 appears to have finally fixed the restore function as I’m now able to access the content. Have no idea what took so long. I’m still quite upset with the developer and have lost faith that it will continue to function since this is the second round of being locked out for weeks at a time. We’ll see what happens, but for now it seems to be working.** **UPDATE: still unable to restore after 4.0.3 update, but the app no longer crashes instantly. Just can’t get past the forced subscription page. It’s like this: you pay cash for a car and a couple years later the dealer disables it and tells you they decided you now have to lease it - in perpetuity.** (Original review): Another legacy user who can no longer open the app - it simply crashes every time. Where else can you purchase something for an agreed upon price only to have it disabled (stolen) by the seller at a later time?! This is the second time this has happened with their “updates.” Whether it’s incompetence or greed or both, this company has managed to infuriate many customers. This used to be a great app (and hopefully will be again), but at this rate I’m forced to look for an alternative and ask for a refund due to commerce fraud..Version: 4.0.4

From love to 'meh'I love the original app. So much that even when they introduced the subscription I signed up for a year. That's when problems started. After paying the year's subscription, I couldn't login or access the app for weeks, I emailed Gaiam many time but no reply. So frustrating! Finally I read somewhere to update the app, then I could finally login. But all the content I previously saved were gone and I couldn't restore it. Now every time I launch the app I have to login entering email and password (didn't have to previously). It's not the end of the world but when you try to squeeze a practice in early morning before work, every second counts, it's a nuisance! The new content from Rodney is fine. But there were no warning we need props in the beginning, have to stop half way to find props. Also there is no preview of poses like the previous one which was very helpful..Version: 3.7.0

ConfusedI upgraded and half asleep went through some process but didn't even notice I was signing up to a subscription service! Obviously this is partly my own fault for being an idiot but I don't remember seeing anything telling me I was now going to be charged. Only when asked to rate the app and reading other reviews did I find out. I have happily used this app for years and understand they might want a more regular source of income but conning your entire customer base doesn't seem like a smart move, maybe they will rectify this before we all go yoga app shopping..Version: 3.4

Incredible app - Poor Customer Value (Legacy Users)Let me start off by saying that this is the absolute best yoga app on the market! I've used these classes for years, almost religiously, and could not be happier with the smooth interface, plethora of focus-specific classes, and overall simplicity of the app. It is very user-friendly and guides you through each pose, indicating specifically how to mantain proper form. That being said, as many others are, I am extremely disappointed to see that your company does not see the value in their "legacy" or "long term" customers. This is pretty unethical and has truly destroyed this lovable, iconic app. I would've been more susceptible to donating if prompted to keep the app free; it was such a success. I purchased the app in one of the earliest versions and have used it ever since. I would love to see you guys show your appreciation to your original legacy customers by giving us full access to the app without paying for a subscription, or at the very least offer a permanent subscription discount. However I know that I, personally, will not change the company's decisions and reasons for doing so. Just sharing my thoughts. Thank you for an amazing app and I sincerely hope you can once again share your love for your long time customers..Version: 4.0

Want my money back! This is my third attempt at posting a review - the other two reviews, both one star reviews, having mysteriously disappeared. I purchased this app some time ago, prior to the subscription pricing change and all these botched updates. Although I’ve had some use out of the app, the constant ‘bugs’ mean that my purchase has now been effectively rendered useless and this isn’t the first time this has happened either. I didn’t pay good money just to see a subscription opt in screen! I paid good money to do yoga. This cycle of updates and lockouts for grandfathered customers is wearing thin now. I’m no expert at software design or programming, but I just find it hard to believe this restore ‘bug’ is genuine. So, even if I wanted to continue to use this app, even if I was prepared to do so on a subscription basis, I’m afraid I’ve lost any trust where this developer is concerned. How can I be sure that subscribers wouldn’t be hit with some app busting bug in the future? Given I can’t use this app, and haven’t been able to for some time now, I want my money back. Such a shame, given how good this app could be, without the seemingly suspect business practices from the developer. Shocking customer experience all round..Version: 4.0.3

Paid for app it does not work. Total rubbish appSTILL NOT WORKING after doing the RESTORE as suggested. I'm still not happy. Paid for app that is useless. Are the developers working on fixing this? NO STAR RATING. Despite having received an email from Apple I still can't restore this app. The subscription section does not come up for me nor does the RESTORE option. I can't even get that far. I can only get app as a guest. How long will that last? As I said previously paid for this app and can't use it. I'm not happy. App still not worth ANY STARS. The 1 star is too much. Paid for this app and now they want more money. Not happy. Now they say you can restore from the subscription HOW!!!!!! Don't bother getting app, very disappointed..Version: 3.8.0

No mistakes?!?!This app has some pretty decent classes...but I was doing the Yoga Nidra class, which was classed as a mental health practice, and the guide kept saying over and over again- “no mistakes! If you make a mistake, start over” in reference to breathing exercises. It wasn’t like ‘there are no mistakes, you can’t make a mistake because because there are no mistakes’ it was ‘don’t make mistakes, if you make a mistake you will mess it up’ Who on earth thinks it is a good idea to promote a practice as a mental health practice for anxiety etc, and then make a mantra out of telling people over and over not to mess up the breathing in negative language? Literally, i would be in a rhythm and the guide would say “no mistakes, if you make a mistake start over” and of course my breathing would get disrupted at that moment and I would start to feel stressed about not messing up the breathing. There is an obvious lack of training here on the part of the instructor. All she has to say is ‘if you lose count, don't worry, just start back at the beginning’ and the importance of the counting is conveyed without a reprimand or judgement statement. I think this is a huge oversight and the yoga nidra practice should be re-recorded without the unhelpful negative language..Version: 4.1.3

Not much hereAlthough there’s more content here than Pocket Yoga, it’s still just about three months of content (at your level of expertise) if you do a session about once a week. And even then, at least 50% of the sessions are just sun salutations. So save your money and just do a million sun salutations on your own. In response to the developer’s response, I was a subscriber for a few months and I have no idea what they’re talking about. As far as I know, I did almost every intermediate class above half an hour and almost all of them featured some version of Sun salutations. I tried the custom class creation thing, and although I love the idea, the technology’s just not there yet. The class is choppy and weird if you do it without transitions, but if you do enable transitions, they’re too long and boring. It’s also very difficult to make changes once you reach a certain number of poses, and the poses don’t contain instructions on how to do them. Maybe it’s possible to make a good custom class, but it would take hours of work..Version: 4.4.8

App crashingSince the last version upgrade; my app keeps crashing and I can’t watch any yoga classes.Version: 4.4.2

Restore purchases vanishedI tried to get the app connected to apple health app, but settings was no where to be found. I tried a fresh install and now my purchases are gone and not recognized by the app. I had this app for 5 years and now it’s gone …AGAIN. I see the “restore purchases” but it does nothing. Boo!.Version: 4.4.3

Pricey changes are a shameI bought this app and used it a lot! Great value. Then all of a sudden now that I’ve updated I have to pay to access all the material I’d previously downloaded! I’m locked out with no warning. I think I need to delete this app. What a shame.Version: 4.1.3

Subscription basedIt’s been a while since I used the app. Disappointed to find out that they have moved to a subscription based model, considering that I paid to get it years ago..Version: 4.3.19

Paid user lose all the content.I bought the app years ago and the basic content are no longer accessible without subscription. No way..Version: 4.4.13

Old customer CANT restore purchaseI also can confirm, if you bought this app before the changes, you can’t restore it! They say click restore on pop up page, it does nothing! Don’t support crooks!.Version: 4.4

Wish but no luckThey entice you with a too good to be true annual or monthly subscription deals only to find out they are in US dollars (very fine print at the very bottom of the page) and there are actually 7 other subscriptions deals to confuse you with. So you play safe and subscribe to the cheapest to make sure you’re not being taken for a ride only to get billed twice for the same amount. I bring up the issue up with iTunes and then find I have been unsubscribed by them in the process. Total rip off and customer service were arrogant to deal with..Version: 4.3.36

Robbed, terrible communicationPurchased this app full price however it has been updated as a subscription service. The restore option is greyed out. I've emailed and messaged the app for tech support or money back with no response. I shouldn't have to pay the subscription when I paid full price to purchase the content outright. At no time was I informed that my purchase had an expiry. UPDATE my last issue was finally resolved however it has happened AGAIN at last update. Tech support asked for screen shots which I have provided and restore purchase does not work. Unethical and unprofessional app. Once screen shots were sent there was no further follow up. I’ve been trying to use the app I paid for for three weeks without success. It’s theft!.Version: 4.2.5

DisappointingMe and my partner have been using this app for many years after we paid the full price for the app. It is a great app. But Now we have to pay again and monthly? Way too much. Very bad form :( at least let those who payed before the change still have access to the previous functions? ... I suggest to future buyers only buy this product if you don't have access to you tube as similar content is easily accessed from there...but if you don't have access to you tube or the developer returns the product to its original price I think $6 all up or if there is significantly more content added regularly.......then it would be worth a buy.....Version: 3.6.1

Moved to a subscription based model and now I don't have accessFeel a bit like I had money taken from me. I am now being asked to pay for a monthly subscription to gain access to something I already paid for. It doesnt feel right not to honor those original supporters of the app who paid into it at the start..Version: 4.0.3
