✓ A Bunch of Greedy FokkersIt's not surprising that so many of the other reviews focus on the micro transactions in this game, as other than that, there is really not much to write home about. The screen scrolls, you hold your finger down to shoot and move your aeroplane slowly right to left. Very little interaction is actually required to complete most levels. One of the two planes you can fly is small and quick, underpowered and weak. It may be a Spitfire, I'm not sure. The other plane, which I think is supposed to be a Mosquito, is hardy and powerful but slow. In my experience, given there are numerous times where you fly through a wall - quite literally - of enemy fire and planes, and manoeuvrability is completely irrelevant - you want to stick with the Mosquito. A few upgrades and this famously quick and wooden aircraft can lumber about the screen soaking up endless bullets. Historical accuracy is hardly a prerequisite for a scrolling shooter which features jet aircraft in the Battle of Britain, "ghost" planes and giant flying panzer tanks, but taking a plane like the Mosquito and making it sort of aerial Tiger tank struck me as lazy, wilful inaccuracy. The game basically completes itself at this point, anyway, other than the various boss battles which end each of the three themed sections. These boss battles are as annoying, unempowering and dull as every other boss fight in the history of games. They also constitute a severe jump in difficulty. A special shout out goes to the last one which is particularly unfair. Now to the contentious bit. In order to progress through the game you must earn Crosses from downed enemy planes. This in-game currency is spent on upgrades for your aeroplane as well as unlocking further levels and the Mosquito. In order to earn sufficient Crosses for the later upgrades, you will either have to grind through the lower levels repeatedly or buy Crosses in packs through the Store. I expect the game is beatable without purchasing Crosses if you have the time and inclination to churn through the lower levels over and over again but this entire approach to game design, particularly for such a shallow, retro shooter smacks of pure cynicism, a way for the developers to make more money from their product and artificially extend the games woefully short lifespan. The spikes in difficulty come across as especially deliberate as they effectively bait you into throwing more money at this slight, underwhelming experience in the hope that you might wring a few more minutes of fun out of it. I'm not a connoisseur of IPhone retro shooters but I am sure there are hundreds out there which are longer, more interesting and more entertaining. Spend your money there..JachapVersion: 1.0.0

✓ Achievements don't workDecent game, brings back memories if 1942. Fun enough to play although it is not very deep. Ship upgrades are very easy to obtain and most levels you will conquer in one try. ✓ Don't expect too much.It looks like it is good game, but some of the graphics is not that high res. It has a tendancy to crash repeatedly -- It did for me 4 times before the first game, and 3 times trying to play the second level. It looks like a 1942 clone -- but they use the collecting of crosses to unlock things -- which you can also buy if you don't want to do it the hard way. An all to common method of paying for free games. Not sure it works here until the stability issue is handled. After managing to complete the whole game apart from the last boss (which is impossible) I found myself frustrated. Until this game is made slightly easier and with more levels. ✓ Not worth itI had some issues when I first started the app, including a few crashes. After that, I had to figure out some of the mechanics myself, as it's not a super-intuitive design. After spamming a boss fight for some upgrade coins, I got stuck on a level with no instruction. The difficulty curve is somewhat ridiculous, to say the least.
