Eclipse - Boardgame for Positive User Reviews

Good space strategy gameThis game is based on a great board game of the same name. The game is all about conquering a series of star systems, researching cool tech, and blowing up your neighbors. This is an excellent port of the game with some minor quibbles. First, the game seems kinda complicated at first, so if you've never played it, your brain my explode a few times. Don't worry. Just follow the tutorial, play a game, and then read the rules. All should become clear. It's actually simpler than it seems. And a great game. Second, not everything bout the port is prefect. Space battles need to be more smoothly conducted, and the graphics in the battles could be nicer. I expect the producers will keep working to smooth out the kinks and make this a 5 star game..Version: 1.0

This is no a paid reviewThe game is beautiful and takes a while to get use to. My favourite game Neuroshima is from the same developer and I had no hesitation buying this one..Version: 1.0

PerfectTwenty four hours after purchase and loving this game. The only quibble I have is that, as someone who loves board games but hasn't played Eclipse before, I would have liked a rule book where it was easier to find specific information. Otherwise, top notch..Version: 1.0

Oooh Baby!I have been waiting for this puppy. Eclipse is based on the brilliant board game of the same name. The board game is so brilliant. Explore space, develop a fleet of spacecraft and then take the fight to the enemy. The first few rounds play out like a euro and the last few rounds allow you to take the fight to the enemy and test out what you have built. Choose different parts to improve your ships. This version adds the convenience of a no hassle set up and some gorgeous visuals which augment the original aesthetic very tastefully. Every board gamer needs this game! Everyone else too. If you have not experienced the joys of the new generation of board gaming bliss and you think of Monopoly, Scrabble or Game of Life when someone says board games, try Eclipse. You have wasted more money on worse junk..Version: 1.0

Awesome app version of the board gameAfter playing the board game at a friends house I was looking for ways to help improve my game and tactics this is ideal. Great for showing new players how to play and develop tactics. Also as a fellow app developer I can see this has been built with the highest quality. Great job guys, hoping the expansion is coming soon as I would gladly pay again.Version: 1.11

Excellent gameVery true to the boardgame and so fast to play. Love it..Version: 1.11

Most fun you can have on iOSThis is easily the best board game on iOS, and one of the best games in general on iOS. I'm not an "Eclipse expert" or some board game strategy genius. In fact I had never even heard of Eclipse until I saw it on the App Store (the 5 star rating caught my attention, and it definitely deserves the praise.) And while the learning curve is very steep at first and there are a lot of rules to keep in mind, if you stick with it, you'll get the hang of it. The tutorial can be overwhelming, but you have to be willing to play a couple games to really get the feel for how the mechanics work. If you expect to read the tutorial text and know how to play correctly and strategically, you will be sorely disappointed. It's a game you must experiment with and contemplate. This isn't Monopoly or even Catan, and it's most likely not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but if you have the patience and interest to learn how to play this game, you will find it to be one of the most rewarding iOS experiences out there..Version: 1.0

Great strategy gameGreat mechanic and pretty easy to play when you get the basics. Can't stop playing it :-).Version: 1.11

ExcellentExtremely good adaptation of the boardgame. Impressive AI. In-game manual barely covers the rules so if you are not familiar with the boardgame you will likely have a hard time! Nitpicks: no endgame VP breakdown, no way to determine fleet make-up at a glance (other than largest ship), all fleet UI (building, moving, combat) requires a lot of tapping..Version: 1.11

Great conversion!I'm a big fan of the board game and this is just about as good a conversion as you could hope for. It plays quicker (all admin taken care of) but I'd still take a physical game over one on the ipad when possible. Can't beat pushing round little spaceships and seeing the pain in your opponents eyes as you push into his home system! Main niggles so far: you're not supposed to be able to undo explores, but you can and it's a pretty big exploit; victories as Hydrans don't register as achievements (won two now); unless I'm missing something, there's no option to randomise opponents. Now, back for another game....Version: 1.0

Very good board game adaptationThis board game adaptation is perfect for introducing friends to the game. have them complete the tutorial and majority of the rules are explained. aside from that, the game itself is solid. there are a few bugs here and there, but overall, the production value is high. would recommend to everyone, from fans of the board game to people interested in a great strategy game..Version: 1.11

GreatGreat game and good iOS implementation. There is one major issue stopping this being 5 stars for me. The combat screen has the 'range section' popping up between each shot which is very distracting as each section grows and shrinks constantly. Also if there is only one ship left I would like to auto shoot..Version: 1.0

Well made appGreat transfer from cardboard to the iPad! Easy to use, a bit of a learning curve but that's just because of the complexity of the game..Version: 1.0

Grows on you...Hard to start, even with the excellent tutorial, have played about ten times now, and now just starting to get to grips with it, still have some confusions, but have never played the board game. This game is highly rated for a reason. If you like challenging games get it.........Version: 1.0

Excellent implementationExtremely good implementation of a complex and engrossing boardgame..Version: 1.0

Good, but short. This is an amazing game, I enjoy playing it so much alone and with friends. It is so well polished for an Ios game and deserves all the praise it is getting. Anyone that is a fan of strategy, 4X type games, and space games can easily enjoy this. My only issue with the game is the fact that the games are far too short. You can only play for 9 rounds, and each round is over when every player 'passes' their turn, which happens quickly due to the influence mechanic forcing you to either stop doing stuff or go bankrupt and lose all your sectors. I think this game would be truly complete if it had options on the games you play, like, for instance, how long you want the game to last, the percentage of those little yellow buggers that spawn, how often a certain kind of planet spawns or how many times everyone can explore... The game NEEDS options like these when creating games, and if the creators of the game want to make their game even better then it already is, they really, really need to add these options. I love the game, but I would love it so much more if it let the users play it how the want to play it, for as long or as short as they want to do so. TL;DR : Awesome , but needs option to change the length of the games..Version: 1.0

Great port!Bought the board game and loved it. Found out about the app and got it two days later and love it as well! The colour scheme is better than the board game for starters, the turn sequence has been flawless for me and I've learned a lot from watching the various AI play their respective roles and strategies. Good job developers!.Version: 1.13

Excellent digital representation of a great gameThis was made quite a long time ago and disappeared from the app store for years. When it popped back up and I finally got to buy it, I wasn’t really expecting much, especially compared to some newer games. But this blew me away. The interface is fantastic and the AI is quite good. This is one of the best board game adaptations I’ve played, at least single player. I haven’t tried multiplayer and can’t comment on it. The only issue I have is that I’m VERY suspicious of the dice rolls. Maybe I’m just comically unlucky, but I might start keeping track of the dice results to make sure..Version: 2.2.3

A space governance sim you can play in an evening.I'm a fan of these games going as far back as ascendancy and masters of Orion. A friend got the board game a while back and I like the 9 turn structure to the game which means it's done in a few hours. So when I saw the padd version I Was convinced that price might be worth it ( in my world £5 is a lot for a potential fad that I might play only once ). However as with the game I was Bold and made the jump. I've played it twice so far all the way through! Only got it two days ago... And I like the fact I've finished it! Took about an hour the second time... :) Now to try the online features. :).Version: 1.0

FantasticI was planing to buy the actual board game, but thought I'd check out the app first. Amazing game. Takes a bit of figuring out (even with the tutorial) but once you get your head around it, it's fantastic. Runs a little clunky on an iPad 1 but still quite playable (and who uses them anymore, right?)..Version: 1.0

Definitely recommended from me!Takes a little while to learn the moves etc and a long while to learn the strategies needed to win (still not really there!). Great fun even though I've not played the board game. A few little bugs need to be ironed out but I'm happy with my purchase still....Version: 1.0

BrilliantWell done guys. top app. One of my fav boardgames lovingly reproduced. Not found any bugs. Top stuff. As a future enhancement I'd like to see a radomize option for players and ai. Hats off to the dev team..Version: 1.0

So glad this is available again!!!This is such a great game. It’s been unavailable on the App Store for years but I’m glad to see it’s back again. Looking forward to the release of second dawn..Version: 2.2.3

Amazing!Incredible that this game has re-appeared on iOS after 4 years in the wilderness. All appears to be fixed now and seems stable. Thank you so much Brettspielwelt!!!.Version: 2.2.3

Excellent 4x game! This is a great adaptation of the board game. Excellent turn based strategy game of science, exploration, and domination..Version: 2.0.5

Awesome gameReally awesome user interface, challenging AI, one of the best IOS adoptation of classic boardgames. Love it!.Version: 1.11

Really good implementation.Big Daddy’s Creations always does a great job on their adaptations, and this is no exception. The game is gorgeous and it generally plays very fast. My only quibble is the lack of an undo/back button when you are forced to balance your influence costs (Warning: the following will mean nothing if you’ve never played the game). Currently, a single wrong tap during the “exchange resources” step can accidentally put you in an unfixable situation with no option to go back and redo your resource exchange. That’s a MAJOR problem considering how the entire game hinges on the resource management/push-your-luck mechanic. But other than that one problem, I am very, very happy with this game..Version: 1.11

Almost thereOne serious bug: I've already had two games crash and when I try to resume the game it crashes again so there is no way to finish it. It seems to come up when taking back moves or changing your mind with ancient tech choices. Very frustrating after investing over and hour and a half in a game. Another time the game got stuck when one of the faction got wiped out. Again frustrating to throw away that much time. Other than that, pretty amazing. I haven't played the board game, but the tutorial and rules are enough to get started. Expect a bit of a learning curve. Looking forward to trying out some multi-player. Great job, Big Daddy Creations, but fix that bug! If it happens too many more times, I'll probably shelf this game until it gets fixed... My poor heart can't take too many more lost games....Version: 1.0

Complex but massively rewardingI played the board game once and was horribly confused. Yet I was compelled to play it again. I bought this and after playing through the incredibly helpful tutorial I finally figured out how to play. This game has, for me, the right level of complexity and challenge. This means beating the AI is very rewarding rather than just a grind-fest. The variety of player types gives the game a high replay value. Coupled with pass-and-play as well as asynchronous online play makes this game a must have. That and the board game is $150 so $9.95, for the same experience, it's a bargain :).Version: 1.11

Excellent gameVery good translation of the board game. A few non-game-breaking bugs are known and need to be fixed but I'm sure that will happen. Will rate 5 stars once fixed. Runs slow and sluggish on iPad 1. Fine on iPad 2-4..Version: 1.0

Everything I had hoped forAt first playthrough I felt a little overwhelmed by what seemed like a huge array of choices to be made but after completing the tutorial and occasionally referencing the manual everything quickly slotted into place. This game has had me hooked ever since I downloaded it, truly a strategic masterpiece. Can't wait to start multiplayer..Version: 1.0

Great!Great game! Only downside is excessive taps required (auto skip in battles... Please!).Version: 1.0

A superb job! Step it up, other companies!BDC has knocked this one out of the park! The fit and finish on this game make it one of the best apps I've ever bought. There's a lot here, and if you're not familiar with Eclipse, it might be tough to learn, but the tutorial does a pretty good job walking you through it. Every board game adaptation should have a great tutorial like this! It's a little laggy on my iPad 3, but there are settings available to limit graphics-intensive functions, especially for older iPads. No iPhone support, but I have no clue why anyone would want that for this game. There's barely enough screen space on iPad to fit everything. But BDC has a great graphic design crew. If I were the Planta, I'd give it eight chloroform'y tentacles up!.Version: 1.0

Good gameFaithful to the board game and an all around excellent strategy game. However the dice rolling is HEAVILY slanted towards the AI. I have played roughly twenty games so far and I have to say if must bring overwhelming firepower to any fight because the AI will always out roll you..Version: 1.11

Great game, online multiplayer needs workThis is a good port of an excellent game. I haven't played the physical version yet, but on the strength of this, I'm considering getting it. The app is worth it for the local and single player version. A couple tweaks would help though, as people have mentioned, like an option to speed up the animations. However, the online multiplayer needs work to become playable. The overwhelming problem to fix is that if any one player stops playing, the game just disappears after a few days. It's like a digital mechanism to "flip the table" for sore losers. I have started several games which have all ended this way! A possible fix would be to replace the player with an AI opponent. Also visible stats including player time-outs would help to disincentivise this behaviour. Fix this and more people might come back to the online version..Version: 1.13

Great! Get this and learn how to play. One of my favourite board games finally on iOS. As a first attempt this is brilliant. Gameplay is smooth, interface is good although took a little while to get used to it. A few tweaks like randomising AI players would be good but generally and genuinely one of best board to iOS games I've played..Version: 1.0

Totally worth it!A fantastic and faithful conversion of this brilliant board game. Worth every cent and stacks of replay value including multiplayer..Version: 1.0

Good gameGood strategy game. Manual could be a bit more detailed about resource management, research, and general game mechanics. It takes a little while to figure out the nuances of the game, but once you do, it's quite fun. You may want to introduce a mechanic to skip over the empires in the turn order once they have passed their turns (including human players). This would speed up the game quite a bit. Good job on the game, I really enjoy it..Version: 1.11

Best strategy game in the App Store to dateThis game is amazing. Seems complex at first, but do the tutorial a few time and you soon get the idea. An easy game to learn, but difficult to master. The game is very well finshed..Version: 1.0

Never played the boardgame - love the appDespite having never played the physical board game, the fact it exists and is highly regarded means a well balanced game, which in turn has been beautifully realised in digital form..Version: 1.0

5 stars game with a 2 stars tutorial/manualAs my title said, this game is clearly worth a 5 stars on gameplay but the tutorial and manual need some serious work..Version: 1.11

Very ImpressiveSharp, polished adaptation of a brilliant board game. Faultless for my money.... certainly going to have to keep practicing!.Version: 1.0

Retains the elegance and depth of the board game.Have played the board game for over a year now. This allows me to play anytime! There is much to learn to play it well and yet new players will still enjoy exploring the features and strategies. Beautifully presented and true to the original, but now the game calculates your income for you... Which allows you you to spend more of your mental energy in dominating the other puny inhabitants of the universe :) If you like the board game you will not be disappointed. Buy it. If you haven't played the game before, take a bit of time to get to know it, you won't be disappointed, buy it! See you in the galactic centre..Version: 1.0

Great conversionMy only issue so far is that the only option I have in space combat for assigning hits is Autoassign. Selecting enemy Dreadnaughts so that they have a black background and are enlarged still makes me shoot Starbases. Not played the actual game so not sure if that is intended..Version: 1.13

Good game!Very challenging and lots of fun!.Version: 1.0

Fantastic board game, fantastic appThis is a really well executed conversion if a board game on the iPad. It deserves five stars, but there are two things I wish it did better. 1. In single player games, the undo button should be more useful. As long as you haven't ended your turn, you should be able to redo your whole turn unless if invoked getting something random. It's aggravating when I see something and realize I read it wrong after already in the middle of action, or even worse, I just hit the wrong thing on the iPad. 2. You should be able to look at your stats and everyone else's between turns. I accept that the game should have the option if letting you see everyone else's turn, but in single player at least it's a waste of time. I can survey the aftermath on my turn, I should have to go through 3-4 passed turns just watching the app. The best thing the game could do is let you look at your research tree, ships, and income so you can plan out your next turn (like you do with the real board game!)..Version: 1.0

Great gameVery good recreation of the board game, it would be nice if you could see the opponents moves in online games, when you come back online. That being said still love the game..Version: 1.11

An excellent portDoesn't quite match up to the experience of playing 9-player eclipse with RotA, or even just 2-player physical eclipse, but having AI is still wonderful!.Version: 1.0

Good game, but missing better online experienceNever played the board game, but I bought and learned this game from the App. It's good, but I'm disappointed in the online play. First of all, you can't see what the other players did on their turn. That's a drag. Second, there are no timers that can be set for online play. I'm already involved in a few games where the other players stop taking their turns for days. It would be nice if you could set a timer of 2, 4, 8, 12, or 24 hours that the next player had to take a turn. Otherwise, it would automatically pass for that player. That's fair and reasonable. Third, when I want to do research, I wish the technology had all the details about it when you clicked on it. Important details, such as if it costs energy to use that part, is missing. Otherwise it's a fun game with lots of strategy. I give it 4 stars, and will raise my rating if these online features are added..Version: 1.0

What tutorial? The game looks fun but that has got to be one of the worst tutorials I have ever seen. I had more questions than answers as I went through the tutorial. They really need to hire someone who understands how to break down gameplay and provide an explanation of what is happening. Sure I was doing what the tutorial was asking but I had no idea why or what was going on. Thankfully there are good manuals online to clear things up..Version: 1.11

Unbelievably goodNever played the board game, but it doesn't seem to matter. It's pretty easy to pick up the basics but it takes a while to get good. The time investment is worth it though... This reeks of class, one of the most polished apps I've ever seen. Brilliant..Version: 1.0

Rise of the Ancients ?Really nice ! I'm thirsty for more. Do you plan to offer the expansion as IAP eventually?.Version: 1.11

Nice gameVery nice 4x game. A campaign mode would be nice though.Version: 1.11

Excellent game, but asynchronous multiplayer needs workAn excellent board game which adapts well to the iPad. I do have a couple of gripes which would seem so natural to implement that I don't understand why they aren't there: 1) a random race button at game setup. 2) the chat function in multiplayer only works if your opponent is online at the time 3) a turn summary log is essential. In multiplayer especially it is frustrating trying to work out what the other player did.Version: 1.0

Very GoodGreat balance between depth and playtime - meaning that it doesn't drag out forever, and yet you still feel like you've made significant decisions. Be warned: this game has a learning curve and the tutorial is only OK, so you will likely need to play few times for it all to sink in. The Interface is good but could be improved by allowing research items to be dragged back to the research track without having to cancel the research action. A detailed scoring summary at game end would be great too..Version: 1.11

Imperfect but good portThe board game itself is very solid and I highly recommend anyone interested in board games to pick this gem up. It looks like it has a high learning curve, but it's actually not nearly as bad as it seems once you understand the basic mechanics. As far as the port is concerned, it's generally quite nice with a slick UI and a very clear and concise presentation. The biggest problem I have with it is the general sluggishness. Things like panning the camera and zooming in and out cause the game to stutter, and animations look jagged. This should not be the case on a game that isn't quite so graphically intensive. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out, it can be extremely frustrating to lose your colonies or not trade resources when you accidentally press the wrong button. I guarantee it will happen to you at least once after playing a 1 hr plus game and it will make you very angry. Finally, they need to have a better breakdown screen at the end of the game. It only shows total victory points for each player and it would be really nice if they broke it down by each source (hexes, research bonus, monoliths, etc). Overall, I really recommend it. Once the gameplay smoothens up little bit and they fix the aforementioned frustrations this will be flawless..Version: 1.11

Great 4x board gameWell polished adaptation of the board game with good tutorial for those uninitiated newcomers. Well worth the price if you like 4x or Space Strategy games.Version: 2.0.5

CloseI would have given this game a 5 star as its very enjoyable and after a short learning curve fun to play. BUT! There is one major bug that occurs almost half the times I enter battle, I will be going good, winning and then when I tap the attack button the fight will stop and it will say all my ships have been destroyed. REALLY a game kill.Version: 1.0

Well doneA very nice adaptation of an amazing board game. The tutorial and manual need some serious work though, it didn't cover tons of material.Version: 1.11

Similar to board game, good fun!Whether you've played the board game or not you'll like this game if you are a sci fi and strategy fan! Online play needs some work, a time limit maybe? Hoping for future expansions..Version: 1.11

Great app of one of my favorite BoardgameSimple to play, yet hard to master. Very good mix of skill and randomness. I hope someone put energy to add expansions AND create competitive online. Would add a lot of replay value. Enjoy!.Version: 2.5

Best board game port over everSo once you get past the using the interface, it's an awesome game. One of the best AI for a board game too..Version: 1.11

Great implementation of an excellent board gameReally enjoying getting to grips with this game. AI is quite effective though I've learnt how to beat them one on one as humans, now moving on to aliens. Any chance of upgrading to cover the Rise of the Ancients expansion?.Version: 1.13

Wow!Finally, a real good space conquest strategy game. Never played the board game but totally hooked on this one. Works so well on the iPad. Well designed and balanced game play with plenty of gameplay. Well done guys! Buy it as we need more games like this instead of all those other copies out there done to death..Version: 1.0

Eclipse ReviewFantastic Apps. I feel that it's a improvement from the original board game. Worth the money for sure. Enjoy.Version: 1.0

Great gameGreat game, loads of fun.Version: 1.0

FantasticFantastic implementation of a great boardgame.Version: 1.0

Sooo good!!I used to play with eclipse boardgame with my friends. I found this app terrific and perfectly close to the real game! The best money I have ever spent for an app!.Version: 1.11

Great gameExcellent adaptation of the board game. Different races and strategies make it a lot of fun; many different ways to win. Only qualm is that AI takes a while, so large games can be long. Still well worth it..Version: 1.11

BrilliantIncredibly well designed 4x game. Was undecided about buying the full board game version so picked this up. I'm told the board game version is even better so will absolutely pick it up now :) highly recommend, the app takes care of the more complex side of the rules too so I imagine it serves as a great intro to the main board game too.Version: 1.13

Great adaptation of a great board gameI really enjoyed the board game and the app is a great adaptation.Version: 1.0

WonderfulThis really is a wonderful adaptation. If you love board games with some real depth, this is the game for you. Can't fault it..Version: 1.0

ExcellentExcellent..Version: 1.11

Why max turn is fixed?Should add a mode of infinite turns.Version: 1.13

Very Impressive! If you enjoy multiplayer strategy board games or considered buying the "Eclipse" board game but we're put off by the hefty price tag then buy this app! This is a very well implemented version of the original game and due to its online and AI capabilities you will never struggle to find players again. Do yourself a favour and click the "buy" button right now - you won't regret it..Version: 1.11

The best iOS board game conversion… everThe fact that you're still reading reviews and you're not buying and playing this fantastic game makes me think you might be mentally challenged..Version: 1.0

Space Empire Strategy done rightI hadn't ever played the physical boardgame, but I've wanted to. I think this game is going to become something I play regularly and invite other players into. After doing the tutorial and 2 plays vs the AI, I'm very excited to play more! There seems to be so much strategic depth and replay potential in this game, without being overly complex and inaccessible. I can't wait to compete against some online players! The amount of data displayed in the user interface is incredibly rich, but at the same time impressively clean and well done. The tutorial is very succinct and well thought out, and does a great job of putting the player right into the action. The space theme is really well captured in the mechanics as well as the art and interface. A+ implementation of what I suspect is a great game!.Version: 1.0

Flawless implementationGreat.Version: 1.11

Great Game, Great PortJust as good on mobile as on the table-top. Hoping they add the expansion though..Version: 1.13

A little complicated, but fun once you get it.I haven't played this board game, but I suspect the rules and record keeping are complicated, so thankfully we have this iPad version to handle most of this for us. If you like these kinds of board games, you will like this app. Even with automation, there's a lot or complex rules to learn. I recommend playing the tutorial a few times. Once you get the general idea, the differences between the races mean you have a lot of playing time. The reason I don't give this app 5 stars is some usability issues: I find myself in situations where I'd like either more undo capability or more feedback. Particularly in end of turn bankruptcy - it's hard to determine if I'm better off exchanging resources or uninfluencing sectors. Unfortunately the game implementation forces you to choose one or the other without letting you experiment or see the full board. Similarly for choosing whether to accept diplomatic relations since the dialog doesn't allow you to see your resources or the board..Version: 1.0

Incredibly deepI've played the physical board game and the iOS version is a superb recreation. Many different paths to victory are possible but patience is required..Version: 1.1

ExcellentGorgeous and elegant design. A must buy for fans of the board game or fans of strategy games in general. A little daunting for new players as Eclipse has a lot of depth and options in game. But with the solid tutorial and a few games you'll be up to speed. Support good app designers. Buy this game..Version: 1.0

Buy it!This is a must buy for any self-respecting strategy gamer. It took me three games plus two restarts just to win on easy against one A.I. This game has depth and is the reason it's in the top ten on Boardgamegeek. Please add the expansions. This is a beautiful game..Version: 1.11

Faithful adaptation - in need of the expansionThe expansion balances out the Plasma Rockets..Version: 1.11

A masterpiece 4x board gameI'm so happy to enjoy this board game on IOS. This is the surely one of the best 4x board game as well as the best ported IOS game yet the game system is difficult and not intuitive for newbies. As other revews already mentioned, it's getting quite often frozen not like previous version. (even during tutorial mode! Definitely update is required to fix them) But if you are real board gamer, you'll agree the game is too good to be underrated due to the bugs..Version: 2.0.5

GreatFantastic game, made well for ipad. It could run a little bit more smoothly (3rd gen) and I would like to se a quick overview/comparison screen to help me gage how I am doing. Also, when choosing artefact and such I would like to have the ui accessible to help me decide what to choose. I only say this because I care, not because I want to complain about it. I am perfectly happy with it as it is..Version: 1.0

Great gameGreat conversion, runs fine for me, I haven't experienced any crashes that others have reported, but I'm confident any bugs will be ironed out. Can't wait for patches and dlc!.Version: 1.0

Top boardgame adaptationVery well thought out game design which articulates well to the iPad.Version: 1.0

Good game.Interface a little clunky and some minor bugs but otherwise an excellent strategy title. Can be quite challenging... Nice to see a decent sci-fi strat game in the store..Version: 1.11

Must haveIf you like turn-based strategy, and you like the 4x space theme, this game is a no-brainer - get it. The AI is not bad, as far as AIs go, the boardgame this is based on is solid and fun, and the GUI is decent, especially after a few games when you get use to it..Version: 1.0

Excellent adaptation of the boardgameTrue to the board game and well implemented..Version: 1.11

Buy nowExcellent adaptation of an excellent game..Version: 1.0

Complex game. Simple UI.I own the board game, but my friends rarely feel like sitting through a game due to the long duration. I'm loving getting to play this game whenever I want! If you've never played Eclipse, consider this a warning: it's complicated. However, if you like complicated board games, you gotta give this a shot! The app does a very good job explaining the rules and getting you started. I'm pleasantly surprised by how good of a job they did translating the gameplay to an iPad. Considering how many pieces and options the game has, I wasn't expecting it to work well. I was wrong. I hope future board game app developers take a look at this as it is a prime example of how this platform is going to revolutionize board games..Version: 1.0

Excellent!Excellent iPad version of the boardgame. Intuitive interface at least if you need the game. Not complicated to learn..Version: 1.11

Expansion!!!! Where it at?I love this game... both in the original Board form and the App for iPad. I would REALLY like to see the expansion for iPad PLEASE!!!! It would be super awesome to have. Do it!!! =0).Version: 1.11

Good to meI have the board game and the expansion. The design undergirding eclipse is one of the best in gaming. I have not had any issues playing the app..Version: 2.2.3

Like it a lotPlayed the board game for the first time last night. This app is a really great port and does so much of the math for you. Will be playing this tons.Version: 1.13

Well ProducedPerfect adaptation of the boardgame..Version: 1.11

Board Gaming at its finest4x space games suffer from a repetition of strategies from one game to the next, and micromanagement hell in the late game as you manage the production queue of hundreds of colonies around the galaxy. It makes perfect sense that the 4x space game that overcame these genre problems came from the board game world - where a clear and economic set of rules is necessary if anyone is going to play the game - rather than the video game world where bad game design can be hidden away from the player by keeping things under the hood. Eclipse is a tightly designed game where every decision matters because the time and space allowed in the game are so tightly constrained, while retaining the hallmarks of the genre (exploration, resource management, technological research, modular ship design). The iPad port is the best board game port I've seen yet, and I hope sets the standard for future ports..Version: 1.0

Gets you thinking! An excellent strategy game to test your grey matter. I've not played a board game port before and am really impressed. Compared to the likes of Civilisation this has no fat - every decision is important and meaningful. The user interface works really well. Great value for money. Plenty of replay value..Version: 1.11

Faithful conversionAfter playing the board game, this conversion didn't disappoint and captures the essence. The battle scenes are fun to watch. My only criticism are the crashes - which can occur in the middle of fairly invested game. More patches please!.Version: 1.0

Gold standard for iOS boardgamesThis is an almost perfect implementation of a fantastic game, with well thought out touch controls and decent AI. Well done!.Version: 1.0

Very slick adaptation of brilliant boardgame.Great interface and production values combined with the existing brilliance of the core game make this unmissable..Version: 1.0

Great conversion but terribly dullThis extremely faithful conversion doesn't for me at least make a scintillating game either for local or online play. Despite asynchronous online play, I have never yet finished a multiplayer game, with games taking hours and hours. Against the AI a game still takes upwards of a hour, and the rewards seem slim with lots of tedious assigning of shots, endless ship movements, and mundane tech upgrades. It's Eclipse - but it just isn't that enjoyable as a video game..Version: 1.0

BugsAwesome game, sadly blighted by a bug which won't allow me to continue playing online games. It was fine before this latest update, but now, it just won't let me back in to online games. :(.Version: 1.12

Fantastic gameThis game is just amazing. 4X strategy distilled to its essence, with the long, dull and predictable parts boiled off. Highly recommended. Minor annoyances with the game: frame rate drops as the game progress make the interface less responsive; one thing I expect from strategy games is lightning UI at the speed of my thinking. This game doesn't (yet) deliver that. Expect a bit of tapping and then waiting to see what the game registered. Also a few crashes have begun to plague my larger games. Autosave is there but the annoyance is too. Finally, I think the visualization is a little too close to the board game, which makes the board a visual mess. You can't just see who controls what sector, you have to hunt for icons. The visualization of unpopulated advanced colonies and populated colonies is too close to distinguish without looking and thinking about it. These would be easy to fix with color shading instead of relying on tiny dots. When I see a board, I want to understand the board, unfortunately this game inherited the visual clutter of a mess of tokens which is a drawback of the physical game that isn't necessary in a computer implementation..Version: 1.0

Not perfect like the board game but still an amazing gameKudos to the developers for adapting one of the best board games in history, Eclipse captures all the 4X good things but in a compact and abstract manner that won't require long sessions, while still providing satisfaction and replayability! However, the board in this iOS version is bland, it lacks a more varied color scheme for the players and feels too generic. In the original table-top version the single hexes are more characterized and almost all the player colors stand out much more, so you can better concentrate on strategy. Apart from this downsides, which when worked out could rise it even above the physical version, it's one of the best games for iPad!.Version: 1.11

AmazingPerfect replica of the board game, loads of fun. Only improvement would be a way to speed up the AI players as in large games it can take a long time to come round to you again..Version: 1.0

Perfect implementation of a strategy gameEclipse is an excellent 4X board game, and this iOS version is a great balance between the original board game and computer interface..Version: 1.0

Great game, needs a few tiny improvements.Overall a great game with a lower than expected learning curve and competent AI. I agree that it needs a proper breakdown of VP's points when the game ends, akin to Lords of Waterdeep where it's very easy to know which parts of your strategy worked and which didn't, and I'd like the AI moves to go by a bit faster, during solo games a full compliment of AI can bog down the total round length and I don't need to see every little thing they do. I'd like to point out that gameplay feels solid but not as smooth as it could be; I'm not sure if this is due to the UI or general slowdown, another minor quibble. All-in-all another fantastic board game conversion for iOS and I can't wait for the tabletop expansions to make they're way over..Version: 1.11

Great game, almost thereA really good implementation of the board game. Still crashes on certain interactions! Will upgrade to 5 stars when resolved. Would like to see minor changes in implementation of end phase Sequence but a minor issue for how well the game runs..Version: 1.0

Simply WickedThis is the most value for money I have had from something on ios. Have not put it down since launch. A must for strategy fans. Simply a must buy..Version: 1.0

AwesomeWow this game was one of the best board game to iOS I have ever seen. After a bit of bug fixes this game will be incredible. Love it.Version: 1.11

AwesomGreat game..Version: 1.0

Excellent port of the boardgameI was recently introduced to Eclipse, played two games in real life that took several hours; this is a great digital version - 100% accurate, fun for all the same reasons and a great training tool for going back to compete with live players.Version: 1.11

Fantastic implementationHaving played the actual board game I am floored with how well Big Daddy has been able to implement this gem of a game. The AI is astounding, I have played 3 games now and they have used different strategies every time, including baiting me with fast ships, grabbing essential techs early, and even the dreaded missile spam which allowed one Orion dreadnought to wipe my entire planta fleet off the central hex! If you like 4x Space Strategy in board game form, this game is an absolute MUST BUY. It may take some time to wrap your head around the mechanics if you've never p,aged the board game before. My only gripe is that it can sometimes slow down a bit on my ipad2. I am hoping future updates fix this... Or I may just have to upgrade to a faster iPad, Eclipse is just that good..Version: 1.0

Excellent portWonderful faithful port of the board game with a few niggles. But these are far from deal breakers for some one who really likes the game but can't get people together to play, this is the app to buy. It's only been out for a week so I'm sure this excellent start will only reach a 5 star given time to grow. Can't wait for the expansion & harder ancients.Version: 1.0

Almost more fun than the physical versionI have a copy of eclipse - big fan, but it's hard to find people willing to sit down and play a game, especially if they have to slog through the rules first. To avoid getting to far into the game mechanics (which are not nearly as complex as they appear on first blush), the app really shines in taking some of the tediousness out of the game - no tiles to sort, no dice to roll, no fidgety little boards to deal with. It also does a great job displaying calculations for you - the VP range of your opponents and the probabilities when exploring. For the bad, I didn't like that you have to open up the ship menu to see the power requirements for a certain part - would like to see that when researching. Also, it wasn't quite as easy as the physical version to keep track of my resources - the little mats may slide around a lot but they do an ingenious job of keeping track of your production, the app makes it a bit harder to visualize. All that said, absolutely phenomenal job in translating an elegant game with lots of bits and chips to an elegant, uncluttered app. Amazingly done..Version: 1.0

Great with 1 flawThis is the best wee board game I've played in ages! Brilliant design and thought behind it. However it crashes sometimes on my ipad1 when I try and explore twice in the same turn. A tad annoying but overall game makes up for it ;).Version: 1.0

Great PortA really good, user friendly version of a good board game, haven't tried online mode yet. Not sure if asynchronous play is supported. Get it if you like the original..Version: 1.11

What a gameThis game is a brilliant conversion, well done to all programmers.. Only fault.... Took long enough, been watching ur website for ages awaiting its release..... Only kidding... Great work.Version: 1.0

A+++ would conquer space againThis is even better than I dared hope. Well done devs for taking the time to make this a great product, not just a good one. Hopefully the AI stands up to multiple plays. Look forward to trying multiplayer as well..Version: 1.0

Great for anybodyThis is one game I thought would be too much for my brain to process. But it's actually not too complicated. Be brave, try it. It will come in time. There are a lot of options for what you can research and put on your ships but only certain technologies that are available each round. So this makes it easier because it reduces your options. I still find the scoring a bit complicated but thankfully it adds it up for you, though I really have no idea if I'm winning or losing in my games til the end. I hope to get better at figuring out how I'm doing. I do love old school and new XCOM but space games usually aren't my theme because of how space games are usually done with loads of 3d graphics.. But Thanks to this game I might give other turn based space games a try. Though I don't need to now. I think eclipse will remain one of my favorite games of all time. It really is a perfect snowflake. I think it will be the best space board game on iOS, just a hunch but I think I tried the best first! If like me you're sitting there worried it will be too much for you and be boring, I urge you to try it. It's really very well done and I don't regret it one bit. One of the best iOS games as well made as carcassonne..Version: 1.11

Great gameI'm really enjoying this now I've got the hang of playing it. It's hard to read some of the text on an iPad mini as some of it is quite small, and the game runs a bit slow in places, but it's good fun and has a lot of depth. I bought it to learn how to play the boardgame itself, and it's done a great job of that. I should probably mention that I've not tried multiplayer yet, only single player vs AI opponents..Version: 1.12

Elegant but dying.....Such a well balanced game, beautifully designed, and with AI. However, the active player base is just dying. And the game has been left to wilt away. So sad. :-( It's a faithful translation of the board game, however, I feel a lack of opportunity to use the advantages of this being in a mobile format were missed. Eg. Turned based is good, it how about it being timed based per turn to keep the game pace alive. Waiting for idle players kills this game. Fortunately single player is worthwhile..Version: 1.13

BrilliantI have never played the original boardgame version of this but been very tempted to buy it. The reviews for the boardgame are excellent, and having watched a game in play I was intrigued. But a large table is needed. Now for a few pounds or dollars I can play against up to five AI or live players on a tiny iPad! Amazing. And even better now that bugs are ironed out. A superb iPad version of a superb game. Well done! Also, the AI is so strong I have yet to win!.Version: 1.1

Great AdaptationA great adaptation for a great board game..Version: 1.0

Possibly the best tabletop style 4X on iOSI think this game is ace, unlike lots of other reviewers I have not played the original tabletop game, but I am aware how well it is regarded (8+/10 on Gameboard Geek). I’m playing on an iPad Mini 4 and don’t have any issues reading the text, so not sure why others are? Top game, with Online playability. If I could give it 4.5* I would..Version: 2.0.5

GoodIt's a fun game but they should have some kind of game mode where victory occurs after conquering other empires. The game currently ends at 9 rounds, just when things are starting to get interesting..Version: 1.11

WonderfulWhat a perfect way to enjoy this awesome board game!.Version: 1.0

David Dickenson, eat your heart outThere is no reason not to buy this. It is a more beautiful version of an already gorgeous board game. And it's a bargain at £55 cheaper than the original.Version: 1.0

Not for the casual gamer...If you've never played the board game, this is a tough game to get into. It's hard to learn this epic masterpiece in this modified digital version. But for those of us who already know how to play, this is an insta-buy. This is an amazing adaptation of the game. Where it differs from its counterpart, it differs better. Very short learning curve to theUI and lots of elegant design decisions..Version: 1.0
