✓ A few important things to mentionThe crashing issue at the opening loading screen is fixed if you redownload the game. There is also a button to restore purchases when you click the shop icon meaning you do not have to pay again to play the later episodes. ✓ I love it ❤️I'm a massive Professor Layton fan and I've played all the other games. I've been waiting ages for this to come out in the UK as it looked great! I wasn't disappointed as it's an amazing game. It's totally different from the other games but I still loved it! It's worth the money to unlock all the cases and it has many hours if fun as the cases are long not short. It is well worth buying and I'm so glad I played all the cases as the storyline is great. ✓ Incredibly GameI’m a big fan of the Professor Layton series and have played all the original games multiple times, and to say this game floored me would be a massive understatement. It’s such a lively, enjoyable game, and I had fun sitting up to all hours in the dark playing through the cases each night. Each case is unique and creative, and I loved the thrill of piecing together the evidence to try and figure out who the murderer was. It was always so satisfying to see the clues all come together to shatter an alibi. The characters where amazing, they all had personality and charm, and it was very obvious that the creators spent time making them feel like real people rather than just pixels on a screen, much like the original series. I also adored Alfendi's "darker side" and the way Lucy and the others began to act around him, becoming used to him and essentially incorporating him into their lives and cases. I loved the story behind Al's change, and getting to see so much of his split personalities throughout the whole game was a welcome change from other games, where the "second half" is barely seen, often used as just a small plot point and then discarded. I’m just disappointed that the game doesn't have a sequel. I can understand that the way it was left allows it to be open to the played, for what they choose to imagine happens next, but I think the fans, as a whole, would love a little bit of closure, and if not that then definitely more cases! The gameplay was really fun and I’d love to see more of it in the future. Overall this was a fantastic game, it truly kept me on the edge of my seat and entertained the entire way through. ✓ Engaging and thrilling!This game has my favorite style of investigative gameplay: forensic investigation followed by a logic test in the form of questions. It has a very subtle way of putting on the pressure when no one’s checking your answers later on. The music and atmosphere and characters are all great, too. If you’re a fan of Layton lore, this game is an excellent supplement to the Layton experience. It takes you on all sorts of twists and turns and left my biting my nails over certain conflicts. ✓ Great!This is a superb game! The idea is incredible, great graphics as well! There are a few things which could make this game even better. For example, including a more 3D view of things, so you can actually physically move instead of just saying in that office, if you understand what I am saying. The second thing is to be more ways of solving the cases, i have yet to improve on my second example but the first example should definitely be a good idea! ✓ Fun to play again and again!I'm not a big fan of the Professor Layton series but when I saw this game I couldn't resist. I love Alfendi's twisted backstory and many cases (for example the walking corpse) gives me the chills but somehow doesn't stop me from playing. Out of all the things I've become a serious fan of I'd give this a record breaking five minutes after playing it as the least amount of time before becoming a fan. I love the design of the characters, the stroyline behind the cases and the charm of the whole Layton world. I so wish there were more cases to complete, however I can't seem to be able to finish the last case because it keeps crashing at the same point. However, I still rate this as a 5/5 star game because of how thoroughly impressive I found it. While some people were bored by the amount of dialogue in this game, I found it explanotory and quite intriguing, as there was clearly a large amount of thinking that went behind the cases you are required to solve. This game has less to do with the bizarre puzzles of the Professor Layton series and more to do with the criminal investigations of the Ace Attorney saga. And it is every bit as exciting, challenging and glorious as those titles. You play as Lucy Baker, the new assistant to Alfendi Layton, son of the eponymous Professor Layton (they were initially original characters but retooled into the Layton series, but who cares). Together, the duo investigate mysteries and solve seemingly impossible crimes. The gameplay is very much like an Ace Attorney game. You search for clues, break down inconsistencies, and confront the criminal with incriminating evidence. The puzzles are intelligent, if sometimes obtuse, but unlike the AA series which deliberately pads its length by having annoyingly slow text crawls, the text here is fast and smooth, and the artwork is creative and stylistic to keep you fully engaged from one mystery to the next. The highlight, however, is the soundtrack. Once again, like the Ace Attorney series, the music is excellent. The jazzy, bebop-ish soundtrack changes to suit moods and scenarios, and certain tracks will have your blood pumping as you break down the criminals before their very eyes. For those of you who were disappointed with the less-than-stellar IOS port of Ace Attorney, you can pick the full version of this game for 1/3 the price, and it is worth every penny..Version: 1.0.0

✓ Very short, especially when you figure out the culprit early (which is easy)In a lot of the cases, it’s easy to figure out who the killer is, which makes the whole case easy to figure out. Because of this, the cases are very short, only took about 5 minutes each when paying full attention. Also, I was confused by a cutscene at the beginning of the prologue, which says something like “that night he killed me”, and it appears as though Lucy is the speaker, because of what is said after - “detective Constable baker! Are you paying attention?”. Despite this, she never dies? So why does she say that Layton murdered her if she doesn’t die?.Version: 1.0.2
✓ Love love loved it: more please!I have always been a huge professor Layton fan and I loved this spin off game too! I don't usually write reviews for games but I felt like this one was getting a lot of undeserved hate. Part of what I love about the professor Layton series and this game too are the intricate and interesting story lines. Some people have been complaining about all the dialogue, story, and clicking but I think it's part of what makes the games unique and interesting. If you were expecting brain teasers and cute little puzzles like the professor Layton games you may be a bit disappointed, I would recommend you try out "puzzle agent" (I loved it too: great story, fun puzzles, quirky graphics, 2.99) this is more of a crime investigation game, it is challenging, but the game also helps you out if you get too stumped! As always, I loved its uniqueness and the interesting characters (with written accents in this game haha) that the Layton games come with. My only complaint would be that I want more episodes!! I highly recommend you download this game, especially if you enjoyed the professor Layton games because it is uncommon for video game companies to create an IOS version and I would like to see that supported so we can get more. The graphics and sound are excellent with a story line so thrilling you are constantly on edge. With great characters and a brilliant new way of solving puzzles this game really is perfect for previous Layton players and even newbies to the game. ✓ Good game, horrible dialogueAs much as the mysteries are good, the cringeworthy dialogue is just too much. Why does Lucy have to speak like such an idiot? ‘It were nowt’, ‘he were’, ‘prof’ ‘by eck’, ‘int’ ‘that sounds dead good that does’. I can’t take any more, it makes me gag. The fact that I have to play as her and be the one talk like that is really annoying to a student of TESOL, English and linguistics. ✓ Not a classic Layton but I still loved it!If you are expecting a puzzle game like the classic DS Layton -- it isn't. This is more of a murder mystery game which involves exploring crime scenes, finding evidence and heated confrontations with the accused. Alfendi Layton is a fresh, original character that isn't just a mini Layton. Oh no, he's someone else altogether which I like because we're not our parents and I don't think I'd want a Layton replica anyway. I know many people have complained about the in-app purchases but I prefer it that way. The first two cases were like a taster and from there you could decide if you want to continue with the game, which I did and I think I got a good deal, considering that I got 8 hours of play overall after purchasing the extra cases. I thought it was generally a smooth, well designed game and it is one of my only apps where me and 3 or 4 of my friends can sit and play along together, debating evidence and weighing up suspects. It is completely different to the Professor Layton games, but different doesn't necessarily mean worse; I actually preferred Mystery Room to the previous Layton games as it had a better storyline and the main protagonist, Alfendi Layton,is more interesting than Professor Layton. After finishing the Phoenix Wright series I started looking for similar games; a search which, until finding Mystery Room, had been rather unsuccessful. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who has enjoyed the Phoenix Wright games. You would usually expect to pay upwards of £20 for a new DS game, so even taking into account the two in-app purchases Mystery Room is still a fraction of the price you'd expect to pay. Although I think that more mysteries could have been included, I believe that this game is good value for money. It’s really unique from any other murder mystery game I’ve played, as you get to investigate the crime scene for evidence and work out yourself who the murderer was and how they did everything. The only improvement I’d say is perhaps providing more suspects to make it a little harder to choose from, and being able to interview more than just the prime suspect. There is no possible way to fail. If you make a mistake you are just prompted to retry and eventually you'll stumble across the right answer. There is also a LOT of reading. It's mostly necessary information, all stuff that is essential to the storyline, as well as some funny one liners. However, it would capture your attention more if it had voice overs. The storyline is interesting, with a twist that carries through the entire game, making want to finish the game. ✓ BEST GAME EVER!!!!!This is THEE greatest app on the App Store!! As a HUGE fan of Professor Layton, obviously I was intrigued by this game but OMG its practically better than Professor Layton! (That was really hard to say :0 ) it's got an amazing story line and sub-story line and the 'prof' is soooooo brilliant!!! I'm obsessed with this because of this 'dark side' that really makes this game so great-if it were just the murders with no sub-plot then it really wouldn't be as good (though the cases are still really super, I love guessing, investigating and being shocked over and over again!) It's JUST SO FREAKIN' FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you bring out more case packs (ASAP! im almost done!) and even though I almost never pay for games and have never indulged in in-app purchases before- you can count on me to continuously purchase the case packs as long as you continuously give a one-of-a-kind storyline, addictive puzzles and gruesome (or tragic) deaths! ;) If you're a die-hard fan of professor layton or not, this game is definitely worth the money for extras as it continuously exceeds expectations and delivers fabulous new cases with stunning art work, as well as being a unique and valued addition to the App Store!!.Version: 1.0.0

✓ AMAZING! DEFINITELY WORTH GETTING!I finished this game ages ago and have only just thought of writing a review! I love all professor Layton games so I loved this. But after you've got through all the cases, you've finished the full game. As I said I finished the game a while ago now so am not sure what to do with it, I keep think maybe they'll do an update or another game following on from this (A Mystery Room 2, or something), as they left the story on a cliff hanger, and I would love to know what happens. I don't think I'll be deleting the game anytime soon though, just in case! 😊 Over all it's an amazing game that is full of surprises and really tests your instincts, so definitely worth getting!😋💭.Version: 1.0.0

✓ Music is Back!Layton Brothers: Mystery Room is an excellent, story-driven game. Compared to other Layton games, it plays more like a visual novel and definitely has a different style (don't be expecting puzzles), but that does not make it a bad game at all. The characters are well-developed, the cases are terrific, and the overarching plot keeps players coming back for more. If the first few free cases interest you at all, it's well worth spending a mere $5 for the rest of the story. There was a bug that kept the background music from playing, but the team fixed it shortly after I contacted them! I'm glad to have the music back; it just wasn't the same without that sweet jazz. ✓ Cracking detective adventureTakes the best bits of the DS Prof Layton games (characters, plot, dialogue) and the best bits of the Ace Attorney games (hunting for clues, drawing conclusions) and combines them together into a satisfying whole that kept me happily sleuthing for several days. Definitely worth the two in-app purchases to unlock the additional cases and complete the story - all up it took just under nine hours. ✓ A good game that's missing somethingAs much as I enjoyed solving the mysteries and playing through this game in it's entirety it bothers me that the motive is very rarely explored. Some cases provide a satisfactory epilogue, but I don't know why more than half of these murders occur and apparently that doesn't matter. For a game so carefully crafted with attention to detail, this seems like a glaring omission. Still, it is a highly entertaining puzzler and well worth playing..Version: 1.0.0

✓ Great! But...This is truly a great mystery game. People who are saying its terrible haven't gotten the extra dlc's. (Buy It) But the only thing you could give to the game is some stability. I'm on the iPod 4th Gen (And its pretty close to brand new) and I'm on the final level. Case 009. But as soon as the screen goes black with Lucy walking up the stairs it crashes.
