D&D Lords of Waterdeep for Negative User Reviews

Why Auto-Forfeit? And then I can’t view the game??So there I am—playing a game online with two friends, and I’m running out of time on the 30-minute clock that was inadvertently set by the person who set up the game. Then, despite being near the end of the game, and despite having friends enjoying that I’m playing with them, the timer runs out of time in the middle of my turn, and automatically forces me to forfeit the game. I try to go back in to watch the rest of the game, and I can’t do that either. But rather than just eject my player from the game, the AI takes over my game. I can’t play with my friends anymore; I can’t watch their game finish up; and they still wanted me playing with them. Why not include a way for the other players to choose to boot a player who has run out of time (like Board Game Arena), rather than forcing them out? That’s just dumb. Some of us like to take our time when we play. And it looks like they haven’t updated the fame for years, so it’s unlikely that anything useful is going to happen on this front. Dumb app design for a fun game..Version: 2.0.4

Game fun, app buggyExamples of bugs: 1. Playing a card, or using a tile that allows you to play on a tile occupied by another players token, doesn’t let you take the Ambassador from the person who was there first, and your move is wasted. Doing the same to Castle Waterdeep does allow you to steal the first player token. 2. Playing the Unexpected Success card (draw two cards and play them instantly) only allows you to play the second. The first card goes in your hand. 3. On the results screen, the wrong lord picture is sometimes displayed. Having the quest list/intrigue card hand display cover part of the map is annoying. Also it’s really easy to miss the play a quest phase, due to inconsistencies with the confirm action button..Version: 2.0.4

New version woesI love this game but this new version now has me feeling somewhat disappointed and frustrated. Playing the game with my phone sideways is good and all, but why take away the option to play with the phone upright, you know, so I don't need two hands to always secure my phone?.Version: 2.0.3

Bad UIThe underlying board game is good. The UI of this app is not good. It does not scale well for small screens; things are hard to read. There is no portrait mode. Grabbing items to drag them is unresponsive, so you need to tap about three times, or tap and hold your finger on the pawn for about 3 seconds before the game registers. Dragging objects should not be required; a simple two-tap interface would be better for phones. Sometimes, items will get launched off the screen, and then you just have to wait a literal minute for it to wander back and settle on the space you selected, unable to do anything in the meantime..Version: 2.1.6

Please change view backThis is a 5 star app but the change of view to landscape in this new version is really upsetting. I actually can no longer play it because the layout/view makes me dizzy after playing for more than 15 minutes. Please allow landscape view in next update (and 2D images would be great to). The old view was perfect and didn’t make me dizzy at all..Version: 2.0.4

Terribly long lag since updateLong long lagging when playing against AI since update 2 days ago. AI opponents take forever to complete their turn.??.Version: 2.1.5

One of the best! But...This game was one of the best board game port on ios. Happy to see the 64 bit update but i think portait mode interface was better and true to the physical version. Please , offer old portrait mode as an option to the player. EDIT: The new UI is clunky. I tried to play the new version and forget these changes, but hidden board behind cards is dysfunctional. I think we lost the feeling of the physical board with this version if we compare it to the old one. Please, bring back the old layout ( and i mean exactly the same because it was perfect ). I'm going back to the first version..Version: 1.2.4

Update was a downgradeThe game's updated UI covers important info, you can't see opponents' quests or cubes, the board can't scroll properly anymore and the game itself has slowed to a laggy crawl. Nigh unplayable. No longer enjoyable. Waste of money..Version: 2.0.3

App support doesn’t work and app isn’t working rightI’m in the middle of a game and it tells me I don’t have the expansion to play this game (undermountain). I sure do. I paid extra for it and have been using it for many months. I click restore purchases, nothing happens. I go to the App Store to email the wankers who created the game (and messed it up with the dumb board update) and it tells me the URL can’t be found, so I can’t even get in contact with them to explain my issue. I want my money back Apple. I’m about to call support and get a refund..Version: 2.0.4

Worst update everBroken a great game.Version: 2.0.4

Kind of boringI had just downloaded it and I was really hoping it was going to be a game like the old d&d. And maybe you guys could lower the price and that would be great.😁still a good game.Version: 2.0.4

Update is brutalGreat game, unfortunately latest update slowed it down considerably with animations, and cluttered the user interface..Version: 2.0.2

Ruined a Great GameThe switch to the new format has completely ruined what was once a great game. With the new landscape-only mode it is hard to navigate around and observe the board and see what other players have (both of which are really important in this game). Before the update this was a must-have but now it is practically unplayable on iPhone. Please bring back the portrait mode even if only on offline play (as this doesn't need to match the format on other devices). Then this game can return to being awesome again..Version: 2.0.3

Great game, weak UIAs many have already noted, the UI needs some work. Playing this game is a chore because the layout makes it hard to see or find the info you need..Version: 2.0.4

I want the unupdated version pleaseGame is unplayable- clunky, can't move, point of view is bad, display picture of characters not showing properly.Version: 2.0.4

Fantastic ideas, not explained very wellAfter getting this game it is obvious a lot of well spent time has gone into making every aspect of the game great. The UI is clean and doesn't clutter your screen with inessential information but remains informative and the art and music is perfect. Yet it has so many intriguing mechanics that it is really hard to get a grasp on. If you want a quality game and your not afraid to jump out of your comfort zone and in the deep end of the unknown, look no further..Version: 1.2.1

We need the old version backPlaydek, admit it. You screwed up. In your eagerness to make this a cross platform app, you ruined a great app and gave everyone this mediocre mess. I went to the online play, and it’s absolutely empty. Not a single game up. That should tel you something. When no one is playing your game online, it’s because it’s terrible. In the old days with the first version, there were lots of online games ongoing. It was never difficult to find one. Bring back “Lords of Waterdeep - Classic edition”. Just bring it back! If you are a fan of the original, tell the developer. Leave a message here..Version: 2.1.6

Address the Issue! Why do you continue to push updates fixing bugs in the animation blah blah blah. It's similar to replacing accessories on a badly dented and damaged car. Speak to the landscape lock issue. Explain if it can or will be fixed (or not), then either way apologize. Until then you are ignoring the elephant in the room with your silence. Planting fake favorable reviews isn't helping either. You have reset the reviews at least three times since the update. The feedback is overwhelmingly negative and unlikely to change the next time you reset..Version: 2.0.3

Portrait ViewEver since you forced the landscape view, it’s not fun to play..Version: 2.0.4

Great game ... at least it was.Great game, the in-depth gameplay does require some time and effort to fully understand, but it's worth it. This game has a depth lacking in most other app-level programs. And no stability issues, never crashed once despite hours of gameplay. 2017 update: the new interface is just awful. Gameplay feels laggy and the board and cards are much harder to read at the new resolution. This update has ruined what was a great app..Version: 2.0.4

One of the best BG ports is nearly ruinedI play primarily on ipad and agree with the phone users. The new layout is terrible, especially in comparison to the old one. LoW was the game that proved to me that boardgame ports could really work. This update trashes that achievement. This new layout doesn’t have an easy way to browse opponents’ resources, doesn’t allow zooming, makes it difficult to see the buildings, and - perhaps most importantly - covers part of the board when the quest/intrigue drawer is open. In the previous version, you could keep one of those drawers open all the time. And yet the new layout has huge tracts of whitespace! Screen real estate is badly misused. I first encountered the new layout on the phone, and thought it was an ill-considered attempt to use the phone’s more severe aspect ratio. I didn’t like it there, and it’s just painful on a tablet. One star for the minimum, one star for freezing less often than the previous version. I am so angry that they broke a paid app..Version: 2.0.4

Orientation bug, excessive expansion prices, online needs improvementGood implementation of the basic game. Can't comment on expansion as they are too expensive to consider given they are individually priced (real game is a bundle of all three) and add small functionality per expansion. Sadly the expansion pricing policy fragments the online player base. Online clock could allow extension by player agreement; too easy to run out of time on short time games due to mistakes, bad connection and time zone issues! There is a blatant bug that gets the screen orientation wrong quite a lot..Version: 1.2.4

Bug issuesThis app worked and now it doesn’t. Can’t even start an off line game. I’d like my money back if it won’t work….Version: 2.1.2

Terrible update and my expansion packs are disabledThe update was bad enough but now I cannot use the expansion packs of undermountain and skullport; without which the game is but a shadow of its potential..Version: 2.0.4

Updated version is inferiorThis new version is inferior to the older one. It runs much more slowly, and consumes more resources. It's almost unplayable on my old iPad, which ran the old version very smoothly. Still getting used to the new UI, but not sure if it's better. There are some problems, like it is hard to see at a glance if it's still your turn or not, and the action log is so hard to understand that it's useless. However it does have a nice new undo/confirm feature.Version: 2.0.3

Ruined by landscape updateThis was a really great game to play but the latest update converting it to landscape only has ruined it. You have to zoom all around the screen and then zooming in on cards doesn't even make the text large enough..Version: 1.2.4

Loved this game - update has ruined itWe've played this game hundreds of times and loved it but did the upgrade today and now it's awful. Why change a brilliant format? The animation is so slow, even though we've got it set at the fastest level. The landscape format is rubbish and we can't enjoy the game anymore. Is there any way we can go back to the previous version?.Version: 2.0.2

Was one of the best....Not sure how or why someone took an incredible game and then ruined it with the awful ui update! this game had a steadfast lock on my ipad, one of my favorites ( and both expansions) there is so much negative feedback to the new ui -CHANGE IT BACK! please, at least an option for ‘Classic Mode’ or something, anything! literraly one of my favorite games I never play anymore..Version: 2.0.4

First time I've ever 1-starred a gameThis was one of my favourite iOS games. Well done to the devs for updating to 64-bit. But they also made one of the worst decisions in gaming history by converting a wonderful portrait-orientation game to an unplayable landscape-orientation game. A pointless and stupid decision to ruin a perfect game. (EDIT: Two years later, it's very disappointing that the devs are ignoring everyone's reviews and continuing in their belief that the landscape mode is a good idea. It isn't. The game is unplayable. Please restore this amazing game to its former greatness!).Version: 2.0.4

Lost access to expansionsWhen I originally purchased the game one of the things that sold me on it was that it came with the expansions. Having played the original I knew that without them the game was pretty boring. After the most recent update the expansions went away. When I submitted a ticket I was told that getting the expansions with the original game was “a bug” that had been fixed. Just know that if you buy the game you’re going to need to spend another 4 bucks to get a decent game..Version: 2.1.5

I miss the old version :(I used to play all the time, and haven’t been able to make it through a game on this new update because it’s such an unpleasant UI. ESPECIALLY compared to the old version, which was amazing to play. The landscape mode is worse, the fact that you can’t see your own cards and the whole board at the same time, the layout is confusing, having to show/hide cards, etc. Very disappointed. I know I’m not alone in this! Have been checking back every few months to see if there’s an update and have been really surprised to see the lack of response to the overwhelming customer feedback. Hopefully this will be playable again someday....Version: 2.0.4

Great game, shame the updates keep breaking itI’ve loved this for years as a game I can hop in and out of to while away a few minutes, but frustrating that every other update locks me out of the game in progress because it can’t recognize or restore the add-on modules I purchased in a previous version. Latest update has once again broken the Restore Purchases button so I can’t play anything but new basic games. Disappointing..Version: 2.1.9

UpdateHas been a great game to play on phone but after the update the AI became super slow. The vertical board is not as easy to use as i have to tilt my phone sideway to play. Prefer to play holding my phone normally.Version: 2.0.2

Great game, needs balancingThis game is fun, well implemented and highly polished. However, "easy" us anything but; the learning curve (perhaps for those of us not familiar with the original board fame) is very steep and even "easy" AI is brutal..Version: 1.0.1

Bring back the old version!EVERYTHING about the update is a downgrade. This game went from 5 stars to 1..Version: 2.0.4

Portrait view pleaseI've played the game constantly before, but when the new update happened I'm disliking it. I'm sure I'm not the only one that does not want to play the phone sideways. There should at least be an option to play upright. The ui confirmations by default are slightly annoying and half to limit/turn off. The building placements when buying buildings need be placed differently if you switched the opponent information on the right side as well. Before, having the opponent information on the top while yours on the bottom was very good and well informed. Now you have to keep hiding the opponent ui to search for the custom building and view again to keep up with board awareness. Phone resources is another big deal. Some players don't need fancy 3D sprites to enjoy, the 2d sprites from before were well enough to keep the game momentum going without the cost of the phone's resources. Please consider these on your next release. Thank you.Version: 2.0.3

Vertical support droppedThis is a good game, but they did away with the vertical display on phone. Now you have to play two handed. I can't believe they'd change their app so fundamentally and not even give users these option to switch to the original layout..Version: 2.0.2

Was good for years......unplayable now. The change from portrait to landscape makes everything fit badly on the screen. Totally ruined one of my favourite app games. Sad day..Version: 2.0.4

A real shame...Was once my favourite iOS board game, but with the recent update the view has changed to a very frustrating forced-landscape. Gameplay is now fraught with fiddly zooming in and out of a cluttered and unappealing board. This is an issue with the iPhone display, perhaps it is fine on iPad, but it’s such an issue that I’ve gone from eagerly awaiting my next turn to eagerly awaiting all my current games to end. Hopefully this is something that will be fixed in the future..Version: 2.0.4

Terrible UIThe latest update to this game is buggy and the UI is dreadful, especially when playing on an iPhone. I have no idea why they thought the switch was a good idea..Version: 2.0.4

Frustrating UIThe app lets you play the game, and that’s great. But the user interface is surprisingly terrible, as if the author set out to make the worst UI on the iOS store. * on the game select screen, buttons are rendered *on top of* other UI elements making it impossible to read the text underneath or tap buttons that are now obscured from view * when ingame, all of the custom buildings are clustered *on top of each other* huddled in a tiny column on the right side of the screen, while giant swaths of unused screen real estate are left wide open on the left side of the screen * when a game finishes, it disappears. It doesn’t tell you who won or who lost. You have to dig into inactive games in order to find any stats about the game you just finished playing Despite the developers’ successful attempt at making the most frustratingly-difficult app on the iOS store, it does allow you to successfully play a game of Waterdeep so at least that’s something..Version: 2.1.1

Used to love the gameFirst off, I loved this game. I didn’t like the update at first, but I increased the animation speed and gave it a dozen games or so to see if I was just being resistant to change. I just can’t believe how bad they messed up the ui on the new version. Several elements that were colorblind friendly in the old app are just not in the new version. The new version is also horribly slow compared to the previous app. None of the old visual bugs were fixed, either. If you end your turn placing blocks, the worker icon still turns into that color block until it is your turn again, for example. This is still playable, but barely..Version: 2.0.4

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.Used to love this game, but after a major update it’s clunky and unplayable. Very sad.Version: 2.0.4

Back to being playableThe devs have (mercifully) fixed the issue with incredibly slow AI players, meaning this game is back to being something you can play against the computer in 15-30 minutes. Like many commenters here, I don't really understand the rationale behind the UI changes, but they're not breaking the game for me either. The underlying game itself has always been solid, but there are some weird design choices at play here..Version: 2.0.4

Avoid (until updated)WARNING - this game will not function once ios11 is installed, and Playdek have not responded at all to any inquiries. Avoid purchasing this game until confirmation that they have updated for 64 bit. (Original rating was 5 stars as the game is excellent).Version: 1.2.4

Broken...The developers no longer want you to play this game, ignoring comment after comment about the broken landscape view..Version: 2.0.4

If it isn't broken...Like so many other reviewers, I have to give the developers credit for making a practically perfect port of a great game. My family loved it (to the point that even some of the little sound effects have worked their way into our daily sound-effect-vocabulary!). However, the redesign is baffling because, as an iPad player, I have no idea what it was intended to fix, although I have acute feelings about the things it's made worse. We were quite disappointed in the changes. Would it be possible to at least allow the option to play in the "classic" format?.Version: 2.0.4

Change it back! This was one of the all time favourite games. You have ruined it. It is slower and the lack of portrait means I can’t play with one hand. Give us the option back and refine your speeds..Version: 2.0.4

Was a good game, new update has ruined thatWith this new update the app crashes as it tries to loada game. I haven't been able to play since the update. Also, I like many others find the switch to landscape to be a wrong turn. I'm very annoyed I can't play the game anymore..Version: 2.0.4

Great game, horrible presentationThis update totally overhauls the game interface and the results are disastrous. The previous version was a model of how to implement a board game for iOS; an elegant, intuitive presentation of a fun, challenging game. The new version is a jumbled, cramped mess locked into landscape mode, with sluggish, garish animations and panels popping out to cover areas of the board. The old version ran fine on my aging iPad 3 but the new version is very laggy and crashes after every game. I have played this game and its expansions regularly since their release but the new interface is such a chore that I've lost interest. It's a shame, because there's an excellent game buried under the horrible presentation..Version: 2.0.1

GlitchyGreat to be able to play online, however glitches and randomly forfeits a game regularly - cannot spot the pattern.Version: 2.0.4

Updated to hellNot only the horizontal screen orientation makes the game an absolute mess to navigate about, but abysmal loading times and performance make this version one to be avoided..Version: 2.0.4

Good game, but just stopped workingThis is an excellent game, though I suspect the interface might be a little complex for a phone (I play on an iPad). The computer AI is not great but it’s still very playable. However it has suddenly stopped working on my iPad, no updates or any changes, when I go to load a new game the app just shuts down..Version: 2.1.2

Constant crashingDo not download until they update to iOS 9.1 game now unplayable due to crashes.. Will this ever be fixed for the iPod????.Version: 1.2.4

Update killed the gameThis was a great game that I played nearly daily. The latest update is a complete overhaul, with significant changes. Positive changes: the pre-game menus are improved. Neutral changes: there are more confirmations for each move, which helps with the occasional accidental placement of workers that can't be undone, but slows the pace a lot and gets annoying fast. Negative changes: the animation speed is by default is super slow (but it can at least be adjusted to something mostly reasonable); the colours have been so desaturated it's difficult to tell quest types apart; the new board layout is much less usable than the old one, and seems to emphasize splashy gimmicks over usability; the in game UI is less clear than before and if you have things expanded to see what quests you have, you can't scroll the map to be visible from under the menu. Game breakingly bad changes: the AI is now incredibly, ridiculously, excruciatingly slow. How did this make it to release? Did anyone on the team actually play the game? I'm not sure if the orders of magnitude more time spent for turns has made the AI more challenging, because I haven't been able to force myself to complete a game since the update. Everyone on the team who released this should be ashamed of themselves. The developers for such poor AI optimization, the designers for the poorer in game visuals and degraded user experience, the project manager for releasing it in this state, the testers for... who am I kidding, there was clearly no one testing this game..Version: 2.0.2

Update sucks ballsThis game use to be amazing and so much fun! I loved it. After the latest update it sucks! Deleting it now. Maybe I’ll check it out at next update..Version: 2.0.4

Layout changeLove this game so much. But I am really irritated you can only play in landscape now. Much preferred the old layout and wish there was an option to switch back. Hardly play on the iPad anymore actually because I don’t like the layout..Version: 2.0.4

Good game, rough appThe game is challenging yet fun with obvious replay value and lots of cheap expansions. The app is quite clunky, the sound doesn’t work, the app only works in landscape and the text is too small for a 6” screen on the iPhone app, I think it would be unplayable on say an iPhone 5..Version: 2.0.4

Used to be the best iOS adaptation of a board gameThis update is so terrible, mostly because there was absolutely nothing that needed fixing. I used to think this was one of the greatest adaptations of a board game I had ever played, but the new bells and whistles they've put on here really ruins the experience. At the very least they should give us the option of bringing back the old format, otherwise i can't recommend anyone buying it..Version: 2.0.4

Still not playableNone of the recent updates have made this game playable: it lags, the UI is a mess, the inscriptions are too small to read. This game used to be so good, it’s so sad to see what was made of it :(.Version: 2.1.0

STILL Bad, read your comments,Why can't you just put this back to before you ruined it, look like your desperately trying to fix the bugs but your not listening to the ones that matter, landscape is not the way, if you want that 5star roll it back, Loved this game before I updated it hands down was 5stars ! now it's horrible to play the animations look terrible, the tokens around the outside board is still disappointing you can't even see where you are,the way you look around the game is horrible, portrait mode gone ! PLEASE PUT THIS BACK TO HOW IT WAS ! will be delete if not returned to old format, this was perfect how it was,.Version: 2.0.4

Internet game crashes every timeInterface could be better , building could be arranged in more convenient way, to make it easier to view... But major issue is a constant crash when playing internet multiplayer game ... Game crashes every time on turn 7 with message all opponents have forfeited you win ... There is something wrong with turn 7 we never managed to pass it... Please fix this issue Otherwise a very good game.Version: 2.0.4

Great game, needs update for iPhone XOn the standard-sized iPhone X and iPhone XS, the game is currently scaled for the Plus form factor, making on-screen elements uncomfortably small..Version: 2.0.4

Took my baby awayThis is the best game ever...but it has been ruined with the worst update ever. The new display is terrible as things seem so scattered rather structured on the board. The change from portrait to landscape was a bad idea. The lag timeframe turn to turn or move to move is ridiculous. It's so bad that they had to change the minimum online game time from 30 to 45 minutes each player. That is a lot of time wasted on watching cards twirl through the air. You have given me something else to do with my time. My guitar thanks you..Version: 2.0.2

Not what I expectedDoes not mention that you have to pay extra for the expansions. Game play on the iPhone XR is not the greatest experience. Forced to play landscape when the game board is better suited in portrait mode..Version: 2.0.4

Hate the forced landscape layoutAt least have the decency to allow people to choose the layout they want. I loved the portrait layout as it allowed me to hold my phone with one hand while using other to look at the board and plan my move for next turn. With landscape I constantly have to swap hands to do things so frustrating.Version: 2.0.4

How is it that I am down points in the middle of game?I have three completed quests equaling 37 points but only show 9 points in the middle of round 6? I love the game and am unsure of where to send this question to?.Version: 2.0.4

Still no fix to awful landscape modeThis used to be great when portrait mode was permitted. The horrible squashed landscape mode really has ruined the app..Version: 2.1.1

Utter rubbishDon't waste your money.Version: 1.1.1

New UI is unplayableI’m a game developer myself and I’m absolutely shocked at how such a terrible UI update was able to make it to live launch. The horizontal layout makes no sense for this game. In addition to the layout, there is just poorly executed UI. The side panel for the quests popping out after every action completely obscures the players view of the game board and requires dismissing it every turn just to keep playing. I understand a lot of hard work likely went into making this change, but a good developer needs to listen to the community. This change is bust, and should revert or at least have the option for traditional vertical layout..Version: 2.0.4

Difficult to Play After the UpdateThe game itself is great. The app used to be great as well, but is almost unplayable with the new horizontal layout. Cards and components now appear smaller. Available quests are impossible to read without tapping to enlarge, and cards played by opponents are difficult to read without slowing down the animation, which slows the game down as well. Please restore the old vertical layout, or at least make it available as an option. This was a 5-star app before this update..Version: 2.0.4

Update is brokenThis was one of my all time favourite apps before the last upgrade but this upgrade has rendered the game almost unplayable as it takes minutes (as in multiple minutes) between each turn now as the computer thinks about its moves. It used to take me maybe 15 minutes to complete a whole game and now it takes over an hour. Please revert back to the old code for opponent thinking or fix this horrible slowdown..Version: 2.0.3

Ruined the layoutHorrible update. Went from LOVING the game playing it every day to just not being interested at all. Simply too frustrating to play on an iPhone..Version: 2.0.4

So DisappointedI used to play this game 3 or 4 times a week. The update has ruined my enjoyment of it. The computer opponents take forever to make their moves. Please please fix the speed!.Version: 2.0.2

Was my go-to game...no longer playing it!I was so excited to see Lords of Waterdeep finally get updated. Then I opened it and tried playing a few rounds. I thought I was struggling because it was just new to me. But the more I played, the more I realized how terrible the new interface is. And I mean terrible to the point of taking all the wonderfulness that was LoW and making it not worth playing. At all. It was my go-to game for several years, playing almost every day. Now I don't even think about it. I was just about to delete it off my phone to make room for other stuff and thought I'll just give it another try. Terrible! Enough that I'm writing this review in a last ditch effort to beg the developers to either revert to the old interface, add a user preference to choose the interface, or at least give us users the option to download the old version. C'mon guys...the first step to healing is admitting a mistake was made. And you can read all the reviews to realize it's a huge mistake. I promise we're all very forgiving if you will just fix this!.Version: 2.0.4

I cant see i dont like itHow do i get a refund, i cant even read whats there.Version: 2.0.4

Good Game Awful UIAs I'm sure you can see from other reviews this game just got a big UI change, so lets address the problems with it. - UI is more cluttered and harder to see on smaller devices; had i not played with the old UI it would likely be fine on larger devices but still worse than the fairly clean old setup - Unfocused Controls - Now some things you have to click on and press a button to do, others you drag. Previously everything could be done both ways - opening player or ai inventory blocks a significant chunk of the screen. Previously these were things i could keep open and reference constantly without issue. Overall I can no longer recommend this game unless you have no other way to play it, don't mind having to deal with bad ui design you'll have to finnick with a lot just to see what cards you have, and have never played lords of waterdeep before. For me, this game that I played regularly all the way up to the UI change has become a nearly unplayable mess..Version: 2.0.3

Crashes a lotHave played this game both this version and the board game. I like it a lot. However since the last update on my iPad Air 2 it crashes quite frequently. Which in online play is a nuisance to say the least. Hope that a fix can be found soon..Version: 1.2.4

Unnecessary Update Ruins Game: Shock! One of my favourite games and one of the few online games worth playing has now been ruined by an awful new interface. Gameplay has gone from portrait to landscape and on an iPhone screen the icons and text are now tiny and unreadable. Animation painfully slow, even at maximum speed. Will see out the handful of active games I have running and then it's time to uninstall. Shame....Version: 2.0.1

Update ruined playability of appThe game runs much more smoothly with the latest update but the layout makes it so hard to play that I find myself playing a lot less. In the prior version, you could play the game in portrait mode on an iPad mini and view your hand and the map at the same time. Why would you make the map and all components smaller and change the layout so if you view your hand, it covers part of the board? If anything, smaller components should give you more space so there is no overlap. The latest update also removed some of the highlights on quests you have the resources for when it is time to complete them. This last comment is really user based but why add more steps to a game? It seems like for every part of every move have to hit the green button. I know with the prior game you choose and then hit select but it seems like with this update you added an extra button or steps to ever move. And I mean move, not turn so in a turn there could but like 3 extra steps. This was a great and fun mobile version of game. The update literally killed the playability of the game. Add a revert please so I can play this game again.Version: 2.0.4

Update killed this gameThis was a solid, enjoyable app that is now grindingly, agonizingly slow to play. I deleted it from my library after the update turned a good game to a snoozefest..Version: 2.0.2

Update hellThis is an amazing game. The portrait version was perfect. The update has made it almost unplayable and so slow. Please fix it for us!!!!!!! Update: you updated the app but kept it landscape. Urgh. Still completely unplayable. Please please change it back and I'll put the 1 star review back to where it should be 5 stars..Version: 2.0.4

Update no goodMe and my five buddies regularly played this game for the last 3-4 years. It's one of the few board game applications that is actually BETTER than playing it in person. All the transactions and stacking rules are automated, allowing us to play the game and not bury our heads in the rule book. Now the update gone done wrecked it. Landscape mode for this portrait shaped board game doesn't make sense. Why would you rebuild the game board?? Everything is tiny and squished together. With landscape mode I need both hands to play, where before I could play one handed on my bus ride to work. There's a hundreds of other things, that are probably just me complaining because it's different and I don't want to relearn the game board, but I do know that we used to have 4 games going and now we have two that are slowly timing out. Hope you can return to the old UI. On a positive note- I gave you 2 stars and not one because we love the chat!! We've wanted it for ever! Now we can do some serious trash talking to each other. I'll change it back to 5 stars if we get he old interface backs.Version: 2.0.3

Update destroyed playabilityThe BEST board game available on iOS destroyed by a horrendous update which has made the game so tedious in execution and awful visually in landscape. Shame on whoever is responsible. I have played hundreds of games but no more until this is amended.Version: 2.0.4

UnplayableLatest update makes the game almost unplayable. Forced landscape mode, cluttered UI, longer load times. Please give us the option to switch back..Version: 2.0.4

Unplayable on iPhoneThis went from being one of the best games on iPhone to being virtually unplayable. Before the last round of updates it was a portrait mode game that could be played with one hand (while holding a sleeping baby in the other, in my case) to a horizontal mode game that needs two hands and which has clearly been developed first and foremost for the iPad. I get it, you only want to have to manage one code base but in this case it’s not worth it because this version can’t be enjoyed on the iPhone. Please bring back the old version for iPhone. You might have to maintain two code bases but actually the iPhone version didn’t need any updates because it was a very robust, near-perfect experience..Version: 2.0.4

Update is un-playableThe new layout makes things harder to see. The right hand player info obscures the buildings along the right hand side. Yes, I know I can pull the screen over to look, but given the old version, I know I shouldn't have to. The new graphics and the card flipping flourishes make it feel like gameplay has slowed down. I was delighted with the old app; the implementation slipped into the background and let the game shine through. The new version buries the joys of the game beneath unnecessary digital tricks. It produces the same feelings as a PowerPoint full of cheesy slide transitions. I suppose, since the devs already have my money, the fact that I'm finishing the two games I have left and not planning to start another ever again won't mean much. But I'm going to go back to tabletop for LoW and look for something else to play with remote friends..Version: 2.0.3

Update broke gameAfter the most recent update I am no longer able to play on my games in progress. It states that I no longer have access to the expansions which I previously paid for. This is not great service.Version: 2.1.5

No love for iphone 6 plus?Update please....Version: 1.2.4

Played this game every day, until the new interfaceI played this game 1-2 times a day for well over a year. It all came to a grinding halt with the new interface. It’s terrible compared to the old. Multiple clicks to confirm an action and obscured bits of the screen made me stop playing. Haven’t touched it in months. Please revert to the old UI or give us an option to change it and I’ll be back ASAP. And would it have been so hard to save / port over the games played and win/loss info? I had 250+ games played and was, for months, trying to even out my win/loss record. All gone now. 5 stars when the old UI comes back.Version: 2.0.4

Updated AI is sluggishThe new UI layout is not good and it's very clunky. The latest update cripples the AI and the game runs very slow now. I'll wait 1-2mins for the AI to decide on a move. Makes it unplayable..Version: 2.0.2

New version is terribleWas a brilliant game, the new view makes it unplayable on an iPhone..Version: 2.0.4

Worst Update Ever...Can’t play the additional content unless online. Way to screw up a great gem of a game..Version: 2.0.4

SlowAfter the update the AI takes such a long time to make their moves, up to a minute per AI, that it really takes from the enjoyment.Version: 2.0.2

Continuing to wait for portraitCommunity has abandoned this game. Just a few years ago it was easy to maintain online games. Ever since the landscape update this game has plummeted in quality and active. The game itself is a portrait board. Forcing this game to be played landscape to “fit in” with other apps is nonsense. This game was fantastic, easy to play, and powerful in portrait. I download this game several times a year, attempt to play, get frustrated, and delete it. The lack of portrait mode breaks this for me. This was the perfect game to play on the train or while walking, but landscape makes that impossible. Developers pushed a minor update to fix some overlapping graphics issues I reported. However, this simply makes text and UI elements smaller. This exasperates an issue that did not exist in portrait..Version: 2.1.2

New version is awfulI'm sure if someone hasn't played the board game or the previous versions of the app. The board game is still one of my favourites which I recommend often and the previous app versions were a great interpretation of that. I can only assume the terrible landscape interface is to match the new Steam version? It's almost like good modern UIs are responsive and reflect the device being used instead of one size fits all. We had a play group which were playing a lot of games frequently, and everyone just let them end and didn’t restart them once the UI change came in. We recently started a game again to see if it was just initial hostility to change but the landscape mode of this app has just killed it. The board game was designed in portrait mode and the app used to adapt that and it worked. Trying to squeeze a portrait layout into a landscape layout doesn’t work. The developers need to face facts, if they want this game to get the appreciation and playtime it deserves they need to either return it to portrait mode, or re-layout the board so its in a landscape orientation. But then they got my money for it when the app was good so they probably don’t care if I don’t play it anymore..Version: 2.0.4

Impressively mediocreBased on professional reviews, I was expecting an exciting game of managing warriors, wizards, thieves, and clerics as they go on many quests in the D&D fantasy universe. Instead, this feels like a game of managing multicolour cubes and winning points when I collect the number of cubes listed on cards. The fantasy theme did not translate well into this app; the game might as well be about managing accountants..Version: 1.2.4

Good game, bad updateHow am I supposed to play this game if I can't even see everything?.Version: 2.0.4

New update requires even more of your money!Literally in the last round of an online game that I now cannot finish, because you’ve made an update that now requires me to pay for the expansions in order to play it. What a joke. I feel sorry for the people I was playing that game with, ‘cause now they’ll never get to beat me at it. Why have you suddenly made this terrible decision?.Version: 2.1.5

If it an't broke don't fix it.New iPhone interface is a disaster. --Text is illegibly small. -My cards obscure the board. -pinch to zoom is much slower than original tap to zoom. - small buttons take several attempts to click. I must've paid 1000 games on the old version which was a great balance of form and function. The new version is pretty much unplayable. No amount of bug fixing will cure a fundamentally broken layout. Please please please bring back the old layout on the iPhone..Version: 2.0.4

Needs UI tweaks.Great game based off of board game and updated for 64bit. However, they did an overhaul of the map, making it 3-d and changing from day to night. Sounds cool, looks cool, doesn’t work well as it is now. First, top down is still best view to play so while it’s fun to make the buildings pop up in 3-D, there is no real reason to play that way. Maybe Playdeck can use it in animations? Secondly, the cards are displayed to small both in and out of zoom. Absolutely no reason to have the card display zoom to be that small. Literally, can’t read all the text. I’m hoping they find a way to solve these issues and I think Playdek needs more UX strategy..Version: 2.0.4

Update failSince the update, not only is the game PAINFULLY slow on single player, but I also lost the expansions. Which means I need to buy them AGAIN. Avoid this game until they fix it..Version: 2.1.5

Never thought I would retire this gameThis was our family’s top board game app for a long time, many years. I was excited that they went ahead and updated it to 64 bit, but man. We played it on a 1st iPad, a 1st gen iPad mini, two iPhone 5c and now a iPhone 7 and a iPhone 7 Plus. What you did to the interface is “horrible!”. What’s worse is I can’t even read the fonts on the cards anymore on my iPhone 7 because they are so tiny and other card information is buried in the worst UI I have seen. Of course I tried loading it on my iPad mini and the lag is unplayable. Told the wife I guess we will just stick with our Agricola app which is perfect for my smaller phone screen or our old iPad and it’s 64 bit as well. Developer should take notes on it or bring back the old UI, what isn’t broke ya shouldn’t have tried to fix..Version: 2.0.4

Update ruined this.100% agree with everyone else about last year's update when they redesigned the app. It used to gorgeous, full of charm, and smooth. It was the best board game app available. But then, they ruined it with a terrible redesign. Was the app too good and cutting into sales of the retail board game? Did they want it to work on tiny, 10 year old smartphones? I can only imagine why they turned it into a clunky, grainy, and awkward new app. I tried to play it a few times, but can't without getting annoyed. Don't buy it. It isn't even worth a free download. In the meantime, I wish the old version would be rereleased as at least an iPad exclusive version..Version: 2.0.4

Update has problemsWhile the update looks better, AI is faster and some of the gameplay operation are an improvement, there are two major flaws: 1. Unless I am connected to the internet, I can’t play with the expansions. Game won’t let me start or continue games involving expansions while I am on the subway with no connectivity. 2. As noted by others, the sideways interface is nice, but the inability to see your cards or opponent’s without covering the placement spaces is a huge downgrade in interface, making each move require way more clicks than necessary. Game was great, but is only fair to good now..Version: 2.0.4

Broken Sometimes Now But Was GreatBought both DLCs and was in the middle of three games when the app started saying that I didn’t have the expansions. The “Restore Purchases” button does absolutely nothing and no update is available to fix the issue. Social profiles for PlayDek are dark. UPDATE: After force quitting the app multiple times, the game suddenly shows my expansion purchases and I’m back in action. It’s a testament to the quality of the game that I’m excited that it’s working again. I’d would give it five stars if it were more stable with regular updates but at this point, I can’t recommend it..Version: 2.0.4

Update ruins a great game.I have loved playing this game for several years, but the latest update has pretty much ruined Waterdeep for me. As others have said the updated game is slow, crashes frequently, and the expansions can not be played offline (which is a huge deal for me since I play it on the train when I commute). Do not buy this game until the developers fix the mess that they have made..Version: 2.0.4

Why change to landscape? Thanks for updating to 64-bit, I was worried iOS 11 would kill the game. But why change a perfect game? On iPhone the old portrait layout worked great and could just be played one handed. But now most cards are unreadable as too small and the icons showing how many people you have are tiny! Please restore the iPhone version back to portrait.Version: 2.0.4

Ruined by UpdateThis game was fantastic before the update but now is pretty much unplayable. On my iPhone I can no longer easily see what's going on and the text and cards are far too small. I hope they fix it and go back to how it used to be..Version: 2.0.3
