Comixology - Comics & Manga for Negative User Reviews

Horrid appI have been using this app for years and recently downloaded it on a new device. The UI is horrid - my comics were recategorised and it is messy to find what I am after. My biggest frustration is downloading comics. I set multiple comics to download over Wi-Fi and days later nothing is downloaded (despite having a stable Wi-Fi connection). It shouldn’t this difficult to download and read comics..Version: 4.0.3

UnclearnessThe way the app lets you download/purchase comics is really unclear I wish that the developers would make it easier.Version: 3.10.5

Well doneIt’s great however I do wish that I could see the archived/deleted comics in the All section in my books considering that it’s for all comic books I’d have hoped to see them there. Ok so I can’t find the archived section on the my books section on the website..Version: 3.10.7

How to make a bad app worseComixology used to be fairly poor however hats off to the people involved in the latest version as I really think it could not get any worse after the latest update. I am kicking myself for updating as the new interface is confusing at best and frustrating for most of the time. It used to be really simple to go onto the app and see the latest releases as it was one of the first options but now it is buried down the page. You now struggle to see what you have downloaded and anything you had downloaded is gone into the grouping of the particular series. Very poor and only gets one star as there is no option for no stars.Version: 4.0

Ui redesign is a massive downgradeThe older user interface was perfect as it was, allowing you to easily keep track of what you were reading and how far in you were, the new one is an unclear mess. If that were fixed, it’d be a fine app.Version: 4.0.3

*cries*I didn’t see the review saying the app had changed to a kindle like format before I hit update. GEE I wonder why I loved the comiXology app vs kindle. The hours logged on my ipad battery attest to this fact. Think I will read my shelved comics for a while at least until I can bring myself back. Truly disappointed in this new setup. Much love for previous..Version: 4.0

So sadThis used to be a GREAT platform…. Until it was bought by Amazon. Since then it’s only gotten worse. Browsing the store is a horrible experience. Wishlists aren’t easy to find (or keep in the right place if you’re not American) All in all, this used to be a great platform. Now it flat out sucks..Version: 4.0.4

How much rubbish can you get?Sorry but nothing good about this app. Crashes often and even I can see my books in the cloud I managed to download only one issue without problems all other times I get "download error" I rebooted reinstalled I tried everything. Give me my books! I had enough. Oh by the way I use crunchyroll manga app and the Reard app for magazines without problems they doing alright! Short your mess please. Using ipad app and I know my stuff. No novice here. CK.Version: 3.6.1

Canada exists, guys.Hey, customer from Canada here. Give us a break. Absolutely ridiculous. 1 star is too much. Fix this. Enough of this crap..Version: 3.11.14

Can’t get access to all my comicsYeah so I am signed in as I can see my wish list. When trying to look at my collection, I can only see the comics I’ve recently purchased, but not the other comics I’ve purchased all together. I’m wondering what is up with that & annoyed as I prefer reading on my I-Pad instead of my I-Phone, as of the bigger screen, which I have no technical issues what so ever. Also want to suggest bringing back he option to purchase through the app, why has that change?.Version: 3.11.7

Worst update everThis update is pathetic, all the good things that made ComiXology great have been tossed aside for a copy of the kindle app. Please read all reviews since the latest update - not one user has said anything positive those reviews say it all - I’m with the guys who would have scored no stars if it were possible.Version: 4.0.1

I have a very specific problemThis app used to work great. Then the update happened. Now I get a constant “this item is not compatible with this device” message but have no way to get rid of it or find out what is causing it. It happens every time I open the app. Oh and if I was reading a book then closed the app without backing out to my library first then open the app again, I get the message and then the whole thing freezes while stuck on the title page of the last book I read and I can’t do a thing. I have to uninstall and reinstall just to get it to open properly. If this one very specific problem gets fixed then I’ll be happy with it again..Version: 4.0

Update has ruined the appThis app used to be amazing, it was so easy to find new series to read but after the update the app is practically useless. I would give no stars if that was an option.Version: 4.0

Feels like a downgrade and has a very confusing interfaceThis update is more of a downgrade. The user interface is confusing and makes me wonder if the app was even tested before the update was released. The 2 page view on landscape mode is non existent, which is essential when reading manga. The previous version was almost perfect for this option when using an iPad Pro. All you would have to do is turn your device landscape and you would get a two page view with almost no space between the artwork and it would look like a single page, as intended by the artist. I won’t be able to finish reading a series due to this interface. The smart list option is also gone, which was a great feature when trying to start reading where you left off and it even listed the books left in a series that you hadn’t finished. Please fix the 2 page view mode and have a option to fill view the entire screen. Smart lists was also a great feature and now not included in the interface..Version: 4.0

Won’t let me download ultimate Spider-ManWas working really well until I tried to download ultimate Spider-Man vol 1. It keeps acting like it’s been downloaded and when I open the book it just showed me the loading screen until I close it and then it’s like it never downloaded and I have to try and download it again. I’ve closed the app, restarted my phone, checked my connection, returning a few books I had already read and it still won’t download. I was able to download other books in the series just fine after trying to download the first. And it’s just this book too. No other books I’ve downloaded in the past few hours have had this issue. Really annoying..Version: 3.11.7

Removed ability to purchase comicsThe inconvenience is pretty massive. I loved being able to browse and buy on the app..Version: 3.10.6

Needs in app purchasingI would give 5 stars if there was in app purchasing and the ability to organise my issues in my own ordered reading lists.Version: 4.0.7

Slow and infuriatingEverything is now way slower: not just downloading but also an inexplicable wait for something to happen after downloading, even opening things that have downloaded takes a good 10 seconds. The UI used to make sense, now it makes very little as it's so hard to see what's downloaded and what hasn't; there's a filter to see what you've downloaded which unhelpfully also includes things that are still waiting to download but no filter to see what isn't downloaded. It doesn't help that the developers were somehow incapable of maintaining v3's data so now I have over 300 comics to redownload which this godforsaken new UI. The new app also forgets your progress so if you're midway through a book when you upgrade then forget about continuing where you left off. Finally, the app bizarrely leaves a preview of the last thing you opened hovering at the bottom of the screen; note this is opened, not started reading. Anything you accidentally tap on will be forever obscuring your view- there is no way to clear this, until you accidentally tap on another book, at which point that book becomes the ever present irritant at the bottom of the screen. Why oh why did I upgrade?.Version: 4.0

What???This latest update is terrible. They have taken an excellent app and made it overly simplistic and unmanageable for Australian users..Version: 4.0.3

New layout is garbageThe new layout is garbage and hard to navigate. They made it too similar to kindle’s app format which is pretty awful. You can no longer see previews for comic pages, it’s hard to view full series of comics, and you’re forced to see people’s reviews. I wish I could turn off other people’s reviews, I don’t want to see them. I want previews back. The old version of the app was much better organized and easier to navigate. I don’t understand why they had to turn it into a kindle clone. I used comixology for years and it was fine. Now I don’t want to use it anymore. It is a confusing mess. Change it back!.Version: 4.0.3

So slow it is painfulThe new “upgraded” app is so slow and unresponsive. 15 seconds just to open a comic. 5 seconds to move from one panel to the next. I didn’t think it was possible to make reading so unenjoyable. The “in progress” filter does not work. “Permanently delete” is now an option right below “remove from iPad” so I could accidentally lose a book. The wishlist within the app has icons that are too large so takes a long time to browse it. There seem to be less sales now. DRM free backups no longer an option. It is like someone sat down and tried to think of a way of making every aspect of Comixology worse..Version: 4.0

Worst update everThe new Comixology interface is not as good as the previous one it’s harder to the comics im after in my library.Version: 4.0

Terrible. Trash. Can no longer filter by series. Had my subscriptions and the ability to subscribe taken away. Have to download EVERYTHING again. This is An insult to paying customers. Not giving any incentive to continue being a customer. Only reason for one star is that the system doesn’t let me give zero. Absolutely the worst customer service I’ve seen in a long time..Version: 4.0

Bring back the old appThe new app is ridiculously bad. Hard to navigate, books don’t download and series are almost impossible to find. Absolute downgrade, would not recommend.Version: 4.0

BROKENVersion 4.0 is a buggy, broken mess. I get that relaunching the app would come with some teething issues, but if anything that would be even more reason to make sure it runs smoothly. Downloading books barely works, switching between views is super janky and READING books is barely functioning. When you’re owned by the biggest retailer on planet earth, I feel like you could put a bit more time and money into making it work, y’know?.Version: 4.0.3

What a Disappointing UpdateI typically look forward to “major” app updates, but everything about this was so unfortunate. The app constantly crashes and doesn’t show search results. The whole search process is complicated and exhausting. Just one big, long list makes it very difficult and numbing when trying to find something new to read. On top of all of this, the worst part is the integration with Kindle. It feels clunky and not comic-oriented to use the kindle reader and getting rid of the ability to view a preview directly in the description (without having to download it) is extremely disappointing. I’m not usually this guy, but bring back the old version. You cornered the market and then burned it to the ground with this update..Version: 4.0.1

Can't find anythingI found my library but can't find stuff to download. I understand taking away the in app purchases but I can't find the new releases and stuff anymore..Version: 3.6

Do not recommendUse any other comic/ e-reader than this. Please. Don’t waste your time and money..Version: 4.0.3

Very disappointed. What an absolutely brilliant idea to put comics and graphic novels all in one place. I love reading them and it’s added to my love of Star Wars. Since I found this app I’ve not been able to put my iPad down and loved every minute of it but it’s beginning to work out a little bit expensive. Due to the fact that the unlimited option is unavailable in the UK I’m having to limit my purchases when I would happily pay a monthly fee to be an unlimited member. I hope the unlimited option is soon added to the UK so I can continue buying the series that I’m reading..Version: 3.11

Useless if I have to use the websiteThe app has gone from one-stop-shop to now-I'm-stuck. I unstuck myself by changing apps..Version: 3.6

New 4.0 is now Kindle Reader for Comics…and not good.I definitely understand bugs in a new version that can only come to light when the new version sees the light, but I feel like 4.0’s shortcomings go well beyond that. The fact that less than half of my titles showed up in my library is a big part of my frustration. To add to that same frustration, when I go to borrow a title back into my library it tells me I already have it. I also cannot borrow the title through Kindle Reader due to the same reason, which was supposed to be a big highlight in the update. Also in the description of the new update it promised something akin to “faster/more reliable downloads” which isn’t the case. Let me be clear, some of these books are big files so a longer download time should be expected. However, when your titles keep getting stuck in “download limbo” and you opening them renders a blurry image that doesn’t go away after loading then I think the problem may be bigger than file size. I do not envy the developers in their task (whatever the goal may have been), but I have PAID for this service for a long time and the disruption in that isn’t sitting well with my extraneous income (or lack their of). I recommend don’t spend your money simply because of this new update, I may not be any longer..Version: 4.0

HobbledTaken in-app purchases away?????WTF??!!.Version: 3.6.5

Bring the old platform back! While reading the comic books themselves is pretty much the same, the lack of actual comic book store on the app is disappointing and frustrating. The old app was in many ways preferable..Version: 4.0.2

The update. The old app experience was 100% better. Losing the ability the subscribe to my favourite titles is a real downgrade. The new store experience is user hostile. I can’t bundle my purchases together and I have to buy individually which clogs my email. I preferred the smart list feature in the last version and tho the current sorting and filtering isn’t terrible. It isn’t as good as the last version. This how change and loss of features is making me question whether it’s worth using this service..Version: 4.0

Update Is Not An ImprovementsI loved the previous Comixology app version better. The change in reading format does not bother me but the other details are not improvements but they digressed the features that used to make Comixology great for e-reading consumers. A few major Examples: 1) No way to see what the sales are on the app 2) When looking at individual issues, it no longer shows what volumes, graphic, novels, or omnibuses they can also be found in. Reading comics is still great in this app so, Comixology is recommended for comic readers but I rated it low because if you update an app, then make sure it is a move forward and not a down grade. Whoever designed this “update” needs to be demoted and retrained in their marketing skills.Version: 4.0.2

A great app completely destroyedThe new app is a massive downgrade in every way - poorer image quality, less information density, bad UI hiding options behind menus, less book information, poorer filters and navigation. With the added bonus of deleting everything and seemingly losing thousands of pounds of your books. It is built on the wrong codebase, avoid ComiXology at all costs, they clearly don’t respect their customers to launch this..Version: 4.0.1

So DisappointingThis new version of the app is absolutely horrible. It’s slow, so far from user friendly that it’s not funny and just downright frustrating at times. I quite enjoyed the old version of the app. That was a brilliant app. I love reading comics digitally. It’s so convenient. But if this is what the experience is going to be like from now on, I’ll find someplace else to get comics..Version: 4.0.2

PurchasesI have no idea how to buy books on here anymore, and I really think that this isn't on, especially since it was so easy in the before version... Not liking this "update" very much. :/.Version: 3.6.2

The new version blows.Bring the original version back..Version: 4.0

ComiXology Is DeadComiXology saved my love of comics. Physical comics were becoming such a storage burden that I started loathing the new comics that came out each week. I was on the verge of quitting comics completely until I discovered Comixology. It had reinvigorated my love of comics… Until the most recent update. The application is now completely unusable and has me on the verge of stepping away from comics entirely. The web store for making purchases is such a mess that I haven’t made a purchase since the “upgrade.” And with the current application I wouldn’t make a purchase even if I could. The application that I had once given 5 stars is gone. Now I’m giving it a single star and that is being extremely generous. The worst part is support is now nonexistent. What used to be a great support department with rapid replies has turned into a black hole for support emails. Support responded to one of my emails shortly after the upgrade and have not responded to a single email in the weeks since then. Unfortunately I’ve purchased over 52,000 comics on Comixology which have now turned into nothing. My advice? Save yourself grief and do not download this app.Version: 4.0.1

Other Apps are better. Was good, now woefully awful. Poor strategy in removing the ability to purchase comics in-app..Version: 3.6

MAJOR downgradeThe new update is frankly horrible. You can’t access smart lists AND YOU CANT BROWSE COMICS. You can literally only read comics you already have. Frankly that’s unacceptable when in the old update you could. Please revert back to the old interface.Version: 4.0

GarbageI don’t usually write purely negative reviews, but this ‘upgraded’ app is simply awful. Downloads seem to take so much longer now, and the ‘Discovery’ section has been butchered. Rather than being a section to help people discover new comics, it’s now just a fancy name for the store front with, surprise surprise, “Included with Prime Reading” right there at the top, followed by ‘best sellers’ and ‘deals’. No more helping people get into comics. You now need to actively know which comics you want to buy, so good luck people who are looking to get into the hobby..Version: 4.0

Do not install latest updateThe latest update is a huge regression of features. I lost my 100GB of downloaded comics and lost all of my read/unread flags. Everything is unread! I cannot group by series as I did before. This is just the same as the kindle app interface, which I hated. Comixology was better before this update. I now may have to look into alternatives like I did when I transitioned from Kindle to the superior at the time Comixology..Version: 4.0

Terrible updatePLEASE return to the old version. The new one is poorer picture quality, no archive system, terrible organization options for library (why lose smart lists??), and enraging difficult in series navigation for purchases ie in order to get “series details” it starts you back to issue 1 instead of the old OBVIOUSLY superior method of jumping to your current issue number WITHIN the larger series and allowing you to scroll backwards or forwards from there. If I want to buy the single issues preceding and following the current issue I’m reading why oh WHY would I have to scroll all the way from issue 1 again? Also no Event or connected issues groupings like in the old app at least that I can find. You have made this app far more difficult to use AND far less profitable for you as I’m not going to spend 20 minutes searching for a single issue that comes next in whatever I’m reading or searching for all the event tie ins one at a time by hand. SO fewer purchases and more annoyance for me. It really worked well before. Why remove the most basic user friendly and LOGICAL aspects of the app??.Version: 4.0

New update has removed many key features.First, the idea of Comixology and digital comics is amazing and I would recommend any one who is curious to try it. My review is coming from a decade long user who is frustrated with the major overhaul of the app. Without ranting for paragraphs, the most important missing feature for me is sorting by purchase date. I also miss the smart lists section. When you have thousands of books the smart lists help you stay organized on one screen with out having to go back and forth between different sorting options. I’m sure the way this all works is fine for books, were you spend a lot of time with one book. But for comics, where you may buy a dozen or two a week and they take 15 minutes to read, and you don’t always get to read them all that week, and often you are reading multiple books that are part of a big crossover where the order matters … so, yeah, organization is vital. When you are finished with a book there isn’t any easy way to go back to the Home Screen without clicking backwards out of the book, or the path it took to get there either. And the entire mechanism for how the app sorts books you open but don’t read …. Uggg. This turned into rant..Version: 4.0

What have you done?Comics do not read or collect the same way as books because they are serialised. Merging Comixology with the Kindle app breaks collections and the reading experiencing. I’ve poured tens of thousands of dollars into comics on the platform over the last 15 years, but today I’m done..Version: 4.0.1

Poorly executed in several waysThere are some really neat features and content in this app. Sadly, many things about this app are poorly designed, poorly engineered, and poorly executed, with the result being a subpar experience for the user. * Attempting to borrow / read new books with Unlimited constantly gets the book stuck in “Borrowing...” state, requiring restarting the app * Confusing UI makes it difficult to navigate in some ways. The guided view can be really nice, but the touch system is sometimes frustrating to use. I hope the devs get rid of the double tap gesture recognizers which would make single taps feel more responsive *The Unlimited service feels like a bait and switch. They make it look like your favorite content is available to read, but only the first few episodes are. After that the unlimited service is not really providing anything and you’re expected to buy each individual book, BUT.... *there is no way to actually BUY books to read. You must buy them from the website etc A lot of potential here and I really hope they continue to work and improve things in the app.Version: 3.11.14

Absolutely terrible.I cannot access my purchased books in my library.Version: 4.0.3

Destroyed a functional appCannot find words to express how this remake has made this app unreadable for me. This was created to meet a few individual’s likes, while removing the ability to read a comic like a book. It is the most basic function expected in an app. Why??? I guess I will just delete it, because when I attempt to use it, I just get angry that I am not able to direct my attention to the comic, because of the strange contortions of the displays. I should not have to choose between read one enlarged box of a page segment, a shrunken whole page, or a number of shrunken segments. Those who created this, and those who approved it lack any common sense. I see from other reviews, my opinion is shared by many others. Perhaps the intent was to kill the app. I has for me..Version: 4.0.3

🤬 this appThis is the worst app ever! So hard to access payment. Very disappointed. Not accessible in Canada which is totally stupid. Waste of my time.Version: 3.11.7

New version is less reliable and doesn’t group series as beforeSo I knew the new version was coming but having to redownload my library is asking a lot when they could have just launched a separate app. The worst thing about the new version is that despite promising "more reliable downloads" they are in fact less reliable as after downloading around 20 volumes it wouldn’t download anymore and when I launched the app next all the volumes I had downloaded had disappeared! This is just unacceptable along with the woeful lack of sorting and grouping options anyone with a large library will feel lost. They really need to group series like they did previously as finding content in the correct reading order is tough despite the faster search options. Oh you can’t even sort by release order let alone reading order so I had to rely on third party websites to find them out. Please sort the download issues ASAP as I feel let down by the service that I have been a loyal customer of for over 10 years..Version: 4.0

Not half as bad as people sayOnce you’ve fought the interface to get to your comic, the guided view reading experience is the same as ever it was, great. It’s the library organisation that’s so lacking. And I wish they would hide the dang white bar at the bottom of the screen, like other apps do in full screen mode..Version: 4.0.4

New Amazon App is a disasterSo Amazon finally forced me to ‘upgrade’ to the new app. The new app is clunky, rushed, missing features, and evidence that Amazon has bought Comixology with zero understanding of what made Comixology the leading comics reading platform. At least I didn’t lose my existing collections, which has allegedly happened to others. Compounding the frustration, Amazon has made no efforts to adapt their wretched store so that comics buyers can easily find anything. The whole thing is a confusing mess that leaves consumers with a dramatically poorer experience. I hate Comixology for selling to Amazon almost as much as I hate Amazon for it’s shoddy treatment of us. This has ‘corporate money grab’ written all over it..Version: 4.0

Can’t view merged marvel account comics in app.Uninstall / reinstall is not a good enough solution to a problem that many people are experiencing, where are the products I have paid for? Being diverted away from the App to the website for purchases is also needlessly frustrating. If these two issues are resolved the experience and usability would be five stars, until then it’s a one..Version: 3.11.7

Update awful. Bring back OG featuresThe loss of sorting by titles is absolutely terrible. Smart lists with unread, recently purchased are essential for long time comic collectors who have thousands of comics. Time to incorporate those features again..Version: 4.0

So disappointingPlease at least tell us that every feature that we’ve grown to love over the years will be back eventually..Version: 4.0.1

Disaster of an updateThe new update to bring Comixology more in-line with the Amazon/Kindle eco system is a nightmare. Navigating a large collection like mine is much more difficult. Smart Lists and other functionalities have been removed. All my downloaded comics have been removed. Everything is noticeably slower. Strange cropping and letterboxing. Double page spreads and landscape viewing are essentially non-functional. What was a perfectly fine app has taken a massive step backwards..Version: 4.0

Abruptly incompatibleThis app has always had a few lowkey problems, but mostly functioned. As of the 4.0 update it has, apparently intentionally, blocked older devices from accessing it. Devices not supported by iOS 13-onward can't get the update, and older versions of the app can no longer sign in, instead presenting only a blue screen demanding the (incompatible) update. Since they have also removed the Comixology website and its browser reader, this means people with pre-13 devices have entirely lost access to their purchases. Speaking to Comixology custom support, I was told this is "working as intended" and the only solution they could suggest was to buy a whole new device. (Despite this one working 100% perfectly fine in all other regards.) That's their actual answer; be wasteful, throw away something that functions, pay a lot of money for an otherwise-identical newer unit, all just to regain access to comic books. Absolutely disgraceful, anti-customer and highly wasteful practices..Version: 4.0

Marmite AppLooking at the reviews for Comixology, customers either think it’s fantastic or shockingly bad. I’m afraid I have to sit with the later. I can’t deny that once I have a comic to read the app works great but then it has done that perfectly well for years. However, older versions of this app allowed you to search for comics by publisher, genre, artists, gave an age rating and, most importantly, linked trade paperbacks to the individual issues they contained or the omnibus they were included in. Where has all this gone? I do not read marvel or DC or snow angel (readers of which are probably quite happy) so how am I supposed to find a new series to start reading without these tools? Comixology/Amazon you’re losing business because I can’t find anything to buy.Version: 4.0.7

Terrible interfaceHadn’t used my DC app in a while and wanted to download a new title. I logged in expecting my usual seamless experience, however found out that it has now integrated with this travesty. In fairness my purchases transferred over. However this unlimited subscription is terrible, as well as having to come out the app and log in elsewhere to purchase anything is a nuisance. Don’t think il be using it other than to read my purchases I already had on the DC app..Version: 3.11.17

Terrible “update” from AmazonWhat can I say that hasn’t already been said, Comixology was an excellent comic reading app and Amazon took it over and took away most of it’s functionality. The app itself is … okay… but okay as an “update” from excellent is pathetic. And, as a Canadian customer I can no longe buy comics from the Comixology store and there have been no updates from Comixology on when Canadian customers will get a dedicated store. I have been a Comixology user for 10 years, I haven’t bought a comic since the “update” and I’m now looking for an alternative source for new comics. Congratulations Amazon for destroying the best comic reading experience..Version: 4.0.2

The app has become unusableI’ve purchased over 800 comics and graphic novels over the years using comixology, and while the app wasn’t great, it was usable, and I enjoyed the service provided. The updates to the app and store have made the experience extremely frustrating and difficult. It’s pretty amazing that the app and website have actually become LESS user friendly than before. I hope that the developers fix the issues and make it less difficult to navigate my own library or find the digital comics that I want to purchase. Until then, I will not be spending any more money on the app or website. Will probably cancel my Unlimited subscription that I have had for the last 5 years or so.Version: 4.0.1

WhyWhy cant i even create an account.Version: 3.11.10

A betrayal.Today’s update is a slap in the face to fans and creators alike. It undoes a decade of goodwill and innovation, and completely screws anyone outside of the U.S. It’s almost like a parody, a comically inept bootleg of the original business. Time for a new service!.Version: 4.0

Why?Listen, I get that you want to update the UI even though there was nothing wrong with it. I can even understand how you’re pushing consolidation with kindle and prioritizing getting more unlimited subscriptions over users that have bought books in the past. What I can’t understand is why you’d ever have a release that would totally wipe someone’s downloaded library. I found this out while on a plane ride, which was horrible, but even now at home I have to remember what I had downloaded and why. I use the app all the time - why was there no notification. Really poor execution and navigating tradeoffs. I expect better. UPDATE: all of the unread flagging is off, so I can’t even tell where I was in various series. This is totally unusable and unacceptable for all users that aren’t using unlimited - like me, someone who has thousands of books they’ve paid thousands of dollars for. This might legit turn me off digital comics altogether..Version: 4.0

Comics K.I.A. In merge. It would be nice if I could have my comics or at least the small fortune I spent on them back, since they’ve never come back since the merge..Version: 4.0.2

Why USA onlyHow about going world wide with the app and the website so we can see Australian price and also be able to use “Unlimited”.Version: 3.11.7

Shadow of its former selfThey broke an amazing app that worked brilliantly. They removed the store and the browsing option. You now have to dual wield a web browser and this app. It ruins the experience..Version: 3.6.1

Useless app in CanadaUseles app.Version: 4.0.7

Darn good appI love the app, much like buying ebooks, being able to store all my comics in one place is so much more convenient than having to carry a bunch of issues with me. Sure, there are problems with it but they really aren’t a deal breaker. Yes, you need an amazon or comiXology account before you get anything but it’s not much different than getting a library card really. Yes, you have to BUY most of the comics but you’d have to do that at your FLCBS anyway. Yes, you can’t do in app purchases and have to go to the comiXology web page to actually buy the comics. It’s annoying for sure but I can understand why if Apple is demanding an apparently 30% cut of the profits for doing nothing. Yes, ComiXology Unlimited is only available in the U.S. and U.K. while Canada gets screwed. I don’t know why this is the case and I really wish they’d change it. That’s pretty much the only complaint I have with the app. I’ve never had the sign in issues some people are mentioning and I use this for all my comic purchases lately. However the ability to actually download my books to my phone is kind of a pain. Load times take forever for the bigger graphic novels, even by Canadian internet standards. Even STEAM doesn’t take this long to download stuff..Version: 4.0.3

Not using everI was really looking forward to reading a new series but now, with in-app purchasing removed I cannot. "Use the website" is a useless statement when I am not old enough to have a credit card or use PayPal. How am I supposed to purchase anything now? I am now literally incapable of giving you my money and will have to find a different company in order to to read my comics. Thank you very much..Version: 3.6.5

Put it back, now!The new ComiXology update ruined what was once a preferred reading experience. The Guided View sometimes goes backwards. It used to do that a little, now it’s frequent. Or it goes slow, has lag times, then catches up real quick, so it skips several panels. This thing has gone downhill and was working fine a week ago. If I had already read my last comic book, I’d delete the app. Put it back the way it was..Version: 4.0

Wish you could shop on this app It would make things so much easierAlso please make it available on pc too.Version: 4.0.4

CANADA SCAMI saw comixology was included in a prime membership so I PAID, just to find out comixology gives the big middle finger to Canadians, on Reddit many people have emailed them and they just don’t seem to care whatsoever. Terrible. Shame on you guys, this is why people use piracy..Version: 3.11.14

Update ruined itI’ve been using this app for a few months now and it was great. It had a few annoying features like needing not being able to purchase books through the app and having to use the website instead, but other then that I really liked it. However since this latest update though the app is practically unusable..Version: 4.0

Always asking me to redownload comicI bought the Saga: Compendium. It’s always asking me to delete and redownload the comic. This is SUPER annoying as it’s a HUGE comic. Don’t recommend it because of that..Version: 4.0.7

Newest update is biggest downgradeI’ve been a user of Comixology since 2014 and enjoyed the fact that if something was misprinted then it wouldn’t be long before a book got an update to fix a page. In fact, sometimes whole graphic novels would be updated with better image quality or updated colors. With 4.0 all those updates to all of the Comixology library has been stripped. Lists of what I had downloaded most recently, bought most recently, and was in the middle of reading were all handy feature that were stripped away in the latest update. Since 2014 I downloaded a plethroa of free titles that were usually #1s to see if I liked a book. To clear things up, I would often archive the #1s I didn’t care for or archive a book that I knew I wouldn’t read again. That cleared up my library and allowed me to focus on the unread books. The newest update got rid of the archive and now only lets you permanently delete a book. Those archives books now flood my library with confusion as every book in my collection is marked unread. This update has crushed the app I once loved and had poured $1000+ into over the years. Now the app is just a dumpster fire..Version: 4.0

No longer viableThis used to be my favourite app. However about 6 months ago they abandoned their existing UI to make themselves compliant with the Kindle UI and functionality and in doing so they abandoned almost all of the features that made the app useful. And even worse - several more features were deprecated for anyone accessing the app outside of the US. They have made noises about making changes to resolve some of the issues but I haven’t seen any meaningful progress to-date and realistically don’t expect it will happen: The cost to try and provide the same functionality as before under the Amazon/Kindle framework probably isn’t viable and their overall profitability likely hasn’t dropped enough to justify any significant investment. I recommend looking at some of the apps provided by individual publishers (Dark Horse, Marvel, etc.) until a viable alternative to Comixology moves in to fill the gap..Version: 4.0.4

WHY?!???!???!?!?!?!!!?!?!So stupid, why can't u sign up not log in!?!?!!?😡😡😡😤😡😤😡☹️☹️.Version: 3.10.7

New version is badThe new version of this app is dreadful. Don’t bother using it if you’re outside of the US or the UK. None of the functionality works. There’s also no good way to sort comics by series and group them together. The “read next in series” has also been removed. Really bad experience..Version: 4.0

You can’t browse by series anymoreWhat, the actual expletive. How do you remove the ‘browse by series’ option. How on earth did the devs think that was a good idea..Version: 4.0

Bad advertisingIf you’re not going to let us access unlimited in Canada, stop telling us how good it is in app, we can’t use it..Version: 3.11.3

New Update is TrashThe latest update here from the last couple days is the worst downgrade for an app/company that I’ve ever experienced. The in-app interface and digital comic reader have been overhauled and made infinitely worse. The guided view when reading comics makes the images look borderline grainy, you have to download a whole sample to preview a book rather than just reading it on the book’s page. The comic archive where all the books you’ve purchased is now organized in such a bizarre way and for some reason they’ve added a “permanently delete” option when you select a comic so if you choose that option, you have to purchase the comic a second time…? Not to mention the site where you go to buy the comics to download on to the app has now been fully merged with Amazon’s site so searching for any one issue of a comic is a nightmare bc it’ll pull up results for non-comic items before the comic issues, plus there’s no way to filter it to only search Comixology’s database. The whole update across the board is god-awful and the worst I’ve ever seen, I only continue to use it bc I have no other option….Version: 4.0

Version 4.0 has to be a jokeI’ve been battling with this app for the last few days and the sole question I have is: Why on earth would you replace the previous version, when the new one is so clearly unfinished and lacking in so many areas? Why would you launch the app in this state, when this new version makes finding, buying and reading comics so much more difficult; its primary function? Do Marvel, DC, Image want to do less trade? Did they agree to this? It’s slow, it shows black spaces where comics in my library should be (so I have to quit and reload and the black spaces move to another set of comics instead), it downloads comics like I’m on dial-up. Bite the bullet and rollback Comixology until you get much much closer to feature parity. This app is just embarrassing in its current state..Version: 4.0

New Update removed useful featuresThe removal of the smart list is a big drawback for me. I have become an infrequent reader the last few years and the organization of such rows as “current reading” and “recently purchased” helped to remind me of things to pick back up after long periods of time away. I will occasionally buy something to read later and grouping by recently purchased as opposed to the release date helps for finding older comics I currently bought to read easier . The fact that these synced to the cloud was very convenient when switching devices, as it helped to maintain reading list continuity. The “Library” ( which seem to be what was previously “My Library” ) is not of much use to me, as I have a accumulated a large collection over many years and having everything in one place, for me, can make finding something I was reading but cannot remember the tile of difficult. Making that and “Explore” the only options seems like a huge drawback to me from the previous version. While I still go to my local comic shop monthly to check my pull box for a few series, I mostly read digital for it’s convenience. I hope that at least some of the innovative features like the smart list and others removed can find there way back into was a great comic reader..Version: 4.0

Do NOT subscribe to their “Unlimited” service.I never read comics digitally but it’s easier than buying the physical copies of them. I prefer not to buy digital because if I’m going to spend the money on a book, I would much rather have it physical. Thought I would try this out while on vacation because I really wanted to read invincible. I signed up for their “Unlimited” service. Which by the name you would assume actually let you read more than just a chunk of a series. This is a terrible business model. If you only want to buy the digital issues it’s a good reader, however this subscription service is an outright lie. Most series with the “Unlimited” tag are misleading. That conveys that the SERIES is available to read in its entirety. I decided to read Invincible, downloaded what I could (up to vol 10 of the collected editions) only to learn after blowing through those 10 volumes that I’ve only read less than half of the series and if I wanted to read the other 15 volumes I would have to shill out even more cash than I am paying. If you want comics to survive in the modern age you need to adapt to modern consumer standards. Especially for big name series that draw massive attention such as Invincible..Version: 3.11.14

Why did you do this? You took away the panel-by-panel reading, you took away DRM-free downloads, you made it so Australians can’t browse new comics in the app or subscribe to series anymore… why? You had the best comic reader in existence and you just royally screwed it up for no reason. Well done ensuring that I will never buy another comic from you..Version: 4.0

Close to a great reader but missing some key featuresI was looking forward to reading vintage X-men comics, I started with the dark Phoenix story. While the resolution is is great (better than what I experienced from the local library) the color was distractingly over bright and saturated. Researching this a bit, I learned that colorist of that era, most anything before the 90s, selected colors intended to be printed on warm gray newsprint. It’s a bit of a disservice to the original art work to not see the colors accurately. It would be a great simple feature if there was a way to adjust colors to make them more muted so they can be more accurate. The guided view feature works great. ‘Unlimited’ subscription felt deceptive as many have noted about misleading people to think an entire series would be unlimited when you see it decorated with that label, huge strike there in trust. Offline feature didn’t work for me when I tried, that was a bummer on my camping trip. The UI is not bad so if these things get addressed this would be a solid reader..Version: 3.11.16

More than sadWTF? Why is there no App Store/featured/staff picks etc in the app? It was a great app. It's now hopeless. What's the point of not being able to link from your comics to further reading in the store? Tragic..Version: 3.6.1

HORRIFIC Update! This is the first time I have ever said this: I DESPISE the latest version of the app! The previous layout had a ton of links to work through, yes, but it was arranged in a workable layout that made each section easily navigable and I could check the latest releases of single issues by a particular publisher with ease. All I wanted was a way to see an Unread status of titles from the browsing window without having to attempt a download for every single issue in a series, but Comixology made that impossible! I cannot even see the Completed status of titles I wish to return when Borrowing. Finding the latest issues of Archie titles, for example, was an additional challenge, when it would have been a matter of ease before. In short, this update was not wanted, and makes usability VASTLY more difficult..Version: 4.0.1

This app is terribleThis is such a poorly designed app. You can’t purchase comics within the app itself, only just review. Comics hang around at the bottom of the page and you cannot close them unless you open a second comic. The older version was easier to use. In fact the DC comics app was better until Comixology took over. The only reason I have this is because we are forced to download it to retain our purchases. Sort this mess out developers!.Version: 4.0

Canada doesn’t exist apparentlyCan’t even use the app if you’re Canadian. Absolutely pointless app.Version: 4.0.3

Worst. Upgrade. Ever. The in-app purchasing is gone. This app is horrible..Version: 3.6.1

New UI fail and bugsI used to really like the previous layout for the app. The screen space was well utilised and at a glance I could see series on the left and issues within a series on the right hand side: now, however, it lays series out into unnecessarily large tiles, which you must click into in order to see what issues are held within. This is very cumbersome for finding what you’re looking for. Restoring the previous list options would really improve the app. On a separate note the app responds fairly well with a large library (750+ issues downloaded), but will sometimes download black pages within issues and to resolve this the issue needs to be deleted from the iPad and redownloaded..Version: 3.11.1

OkayishThe app has major limitations, it shows all your unread comics individually in one folder, with no way to show in a single series, which makes it hard to work out which comic to read first Ina series. You have to click into a comic, then book details, then scroll through. Love to see an option that shows the comics per series, clearly showing unread or read, would make it a lot, easier to navigate. On a plus side the comics look great, and particularly beautiful on the iPad Pro. Just sort out the navigation Guys,.Version: 3.10.3

Why?It worked great and now it's just garbage. Please go back to in app purchases....Version: 3.6.2

Pathetic excuse for an appThis app was once a much more powerful mobile experience, being both a comic store and the book itself. Now it's merely a glorified PDF reader. I will not be using again, until they reinstate in-app purchases. It's a shame, this app highlighted the best things about new mobile economies and now it's dead in the water..Version: 3.6.2

You have to buyI thought that you could read for free but you have to buy every comics in order to read them. Not what I thought it was..Version: 3.10.7

Ruined by templatesJust had to download Amazon’s version in order to use the app, and after seeing the app and the comiXology page, I am very disappointed. Aside from my iPad app crashing whilst downloading my library, the UI has lost everything unique about it to basically become Kindle. No tab for smart lists, no seeing which books you’re halfway through reading, the system that works for books doesn’t work for comics, and navigating the site to find things makes me gag. Makes me weep, especially since there’s no way to move my library to a better app. Avoid if possible..Version: 4.0

Awful upgradeThe 4.0 release has completely ruined the reading experience. My downloaded library has cleared itself multiple times, navigation and reading is slow and unresponsive, and you can no longer easily move from the end of one issue to the next issue without multiple presses. Comixology released a statement praising this release as keeping the same experience - they were talking out of their arses..Version: 4.0.2

Do Not UpdateThey’ve ruined this app. What used to be an amazing app is now useless. Worse than impossible to use. All the features that used to make the reading experience brilliant and the library management features have been lost. They’ve also wiped the history. So I have no idea what I have left to read and where I left off certain titles. I will be deleting this app and not buying anymore comics here again..Version: 4.0.1

Do not buyStraight up lie do not buy.Version: 4.0.2

Poor. AvoidNew version and a huge step backwards - no longer a portal to the Comixology store as well as buggy and incapable of background downloading your library - when your pad sleeps or you move away from the app, all downloads stop. Rubbish.Version: 3.6.5

Used to be betterIt’s a pain to search for anything new in the discover section. You can’t easily search by developer or genre or anything. You can’t search by series so every search is flooded with individual volumes and issues making it hard to find anything else. It is so hard to look for anything in general on the app since there is only a limited amount of categories and a limited amount of choices for those categories. Meaning you have to go elsewhere to search for something new to read and then come back to buy it. Which can’t really be done if you are looking for books that are kindle/comiXology unlimited especially if you want a specific genre and a specific format (like manga)..Version: 4.0.7

Needs bug fixesCrazy high battery usage. This app uses more battery than Netflix does streaming Dolby Vision video. Makes no sense. Please fix the battery drain bug..Version: 3.11.7

Dumb AppI used to love this, with the in App purchases. Sent hundreds of dollars on comics, walking away from the lot it so bad. iBooks has graphic novels and comics so I'll be shopping there now!.Version: 3.6

Ruined an otherwise great appAmazons’ decisions to completely destroy ComiXology’s useful functionality and replace with their kindle reader should be enough to discourage anyone from downloading.Version: 4.0.7

Why? Just… why?TL;DR: If you are new to Comixology and are considering using it, DON’T BOTHER UNTIL THEY FIX IT. The shortest way that I can put this, is that the revamp of this app took every single screen, button and feature and made it WORSE. Comixology used to be intuitive, fast and extremely user friendly. With the recent changes that have rolled out, the app is now easily the most frustrating program on my device. 1. Downloading takes forever, when it decides to work. (This used to be faster, and you could have a queue of downloads going. Now, it can barely handle downloading one series at a time.) 2. There’s a, “Permanently Delete,“ selection right next to a commonly used button. (Which is just unacceptable) 3. The wishlist and purchase process is extremely convoluted. (That’s always been the case, but it keeps getting worse) 4. You can no longer have subscriptions; you need to individually go purchase each title separately. This app went from being extremely well designed, to hot garbage in very short order. The best thing that could be done is to roll back the changes and publicly apologize for this leap backwards..Version: 4.0.3

Terrible RegressionThis new version of Comixology is, as reflected in the reviews of so many others, an unmitigated disaster. I do not recall any other app. ever going so far in reverse from one version to an "upgraded" version. The new version has become a reader only; virtually every convenient feature that made the earlier versions of Comixolgy an excellent app. has been eliminated. The new inability to order comics as in-app purchases is the worst defect. Forget this: I am going back to paper. JUST AWFUL: no more archiving of books, no more progress lines showing how far one has progressed reading a particular book, no more list of books recently read, etc., etc. (there is, however, an irksome icon at the bottom of the screen of the last book one has read that one cannot get rid of). Bring back the old Comixology, please!!!…otherwise, I may go back to paper..Version: 4.0

App is hot garbage now.Apart from the UI regressions, I also have to keep deleting and reinstalling it because it doesn’t actually release the storage space when you delete a download..Version: 4.0.3

Sick and tired of Amazons business model. You can’t download the app on windows products. They have integrated the app into the Amazon site so you have to go through the Amazon selling pages to get into your products you have bought. Fix this or I’m switching platforms Amazon..Version: 4.0.3

Latest update is a disasterWould give zero if I could If you live outside the US (probably in as well) don’t bother they have literally removed most of the functionality from the app with the latest update. Find a company that appreciates and respects their customers..Version: 4.0

"Update" A Total Dumpster FireIf it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! I hate the new app. First update attempt failed, and the second sat so long at about 90% I was just praying I would be able to remove it for a retry—but it finally completed. I open the app and of course everything looks completely different. It takes me five minutes of fiddling with the settings to get things back to "normal," but scrolling through your comics collection is choppy enough to cause an epileptic seizure. Finally I click to open a comic—and it has to download first! ALL OF MY PREVIOUS PURCHASES WILL NEED TO BE RE-DOWNLOADED! From what I’ve already read online, the new file sizes for the same identical comics are now MUCH larger. Swiping pages in the comic feels different now, absolutely not as smooth as before but feels choppy. What a total mess this "upgrade" is..Version: 4.0

Disappointing upgradeRemoving the ability to purchase comics via the app has made it virtually useless. It even lacks any clear link to a website to purchase digital comics..Version: 3.6.2

CanadaCant use in canada.Version: 4.0.7

Pathetic, Amateurish, Broken, Hacky Excuse For an AppYou know when an actor gets older, decides to get cosmetic surgery, and ends up looking like a grotesque and inhuman mockery of their former self? This app is worse. UPDATE: Still a dumpster fire of terrible decisions and uninformed design. What an amazing leap backwards past mediocrity into incompetence. Steaming fecal garbage that continues to somehow get worse. On the plus side, I haven’t been tempted to actually spend a single penny since they released this embarrassment. What a pathetic step backward. Harder to use, poorly designed, and lacking basically every user friendly feature of the previous version. Did you lose a bet or just lose interest in your customers? This is literally the worst update I’ve ever seen. It’s like malware for your soul. Lacks a single redeemable feature and makes me never want to read a comic again. This is clown shoes, hacky, and amateurish. And those are its good points. One must assume no one on the dev team has actually ever (a) read a comic or (b) created an app, as this abortion is a crime against humanity..Version: 4.0.7

What happened?I haven't used comixology in sometime. I wanted to pick up some Spider-man books and was confused as to why I couldn't: download the stuff i had already purchased and couldn't actually buy books. This app is horrible. You cant actually buy anything, you have to go their site (so they don't have to pay 30% to apple... fair enough) but none of my collection will show up. Used to be goos, now is garbage..Version: 3.10.3

Used to be a great appThis was such a great app and the Comixology website was perfect. After the updates, it is really bad. The website is unusable. I used to purchase so many comics and now I’m frustrated by the website and I have not perched a single book in over a year. It’s quite sad. I would give this zero stars if I could..Version: 4.0.7

Everything you’ve read is true. The redesign is awful. The Feb 2022 update to comiXology has completely destroyed the user experience. Even worse than the app update is the online store for purchasing. There is no store front for Canada, so you have to painfully search for individual issues in the regular Amazon store. All of these changes feel so haphazard and without any regard to customers who have spent thousands of dollars over the years on digital comics..Version: 4.0.3

From best to worstFrom being the best iPad comic reader, the latest update has made this the worst. If you can - avoid the update. The latest ‘upgrade’ destroys a lot of functions, makes reading more difficult, deletes previously useful smart lists, even deleted my wish list, and removed a lot of good UI elements like reading progress, or the way to sort comics. The store is now useless, the quick page previews are gone (essential when buying comics), and search does not offer the right results. Completely useless. I spent hundreds of pounds on comics, and now this is the equivalent of a major water damage to my collection..Version: 4.0

Ruined my comics experienceYou've heard it time and time again. I feel in love with comics through comixology - more than with the physical books - but the app experience really is a let down now. I bought around 1700 books over about 5 years before the switch. Since then I've bought 3 or 4..Version: 4.0.7

Downgrade your comics experienceFor the past year, I've been ignoring the Comixology website's invitation to "learn how to view your comics on Kindle". So now the Comixology app *is* the Kindle reader. Subscriptions are gone, smart lists are gone, and "group by series" gathers together *most*, but not all of the issues in a series, leaving you to hunt through your library for the rest. Comixology got me back into reading comics. Comixology 4.0 is trying very hard to get me out again..Version: 4.0.1

Harder to use and slowerMuch harder to use and much slower than the previous app. Finding and searching is considerably more complex. On the plus side, i am spending much less money on comics due to the difficulty using this app..Version: 4.0.3

Sad faceAs far as I can tell there is no way to actually buy comics on here. A bit of a design floor in an app for comics..Version: 3.6.2

Missing key featuresComixology is excellent for buying and reading comics but when everything you want to buy is labelled 'Unlimited' but Unlimited isn't available in the UK it makes buying anything feel like a waste of money. It's been more than 4 years since Unlimited launched in the US and there's been no word on it here in the UK. Whether it comes down to rights issues or its just not considered a priority outside of the US, the 'Unlimited' banner on all the comics needs to be removed for non-US users..Version: 3.11.10

Useless appEverything about this is painful, especially for Canadians. This is now only useful for anything that has been bought in the past and makes the future of digital comics irrelevant. Terrible app, terrible experience, biggest waste of digital comics, which is sad because I actually enjoyed something different. Back to paper copy for everything again..Version: 4.0.2

I used to this appThis and kindle unlimited is not available in Australia however there has been so much advertisements about it. It’s really disappointing. It’s also disappointing that I have to have up to three different apps to make purchases. I’ve recently returned to purchasing paperbacks and Omnibuses from my local bookshops and comic stores. There was so much potential however after many years nothing has changed. I feel like it never will. I give two stars for all of the hope I did have when I first got this app..Version: 4.0.4

This app is worse than everIt’s as if the don’t want you to buy comix They don’t care about Canadian customers They made it so difficult to find out anything about the series your interested in. For Canadians …it’s a horrible experience. Soooooo much worse than it ever was. I literally can’t figure out how to buy comics anymore. It sends me to the USA store, then tells me to go the Canadian store. Then sends me to the Canadian app, then tells me that the app doesn’t support purchases. I’m just running around in circles. I bought a lot of comics from you guys. Now you lost a paying customer Moral of the story is. If you don’t support us, we will not support you. I’m never buying another comic from you, until you make it simple and easy. You should have never touched this app. It was much better before A new saying “ if it ain’t broken, make it worse”.Version: 4.0.3

A downgrade with version 4.0The library seems useable but previously having a section of in progress comics separate in a smart list was a better way of presenting things, like books on the bed side table rather than your entire library. The discovery is now horrendous, the simple previews were fine and better than downloading a sample that then clutters your library! It’s now not possible to locate volumes from a single issue e.g. I may want a particular issue but am thinking of buying it as part of a collection, I can’t find this out in app..Version: 4.0

FrustratedI have read digital comics for awhile going on 5-6 years and never have I been so lost and confused. But what makes this the most frustrating thing is I cannot figure out how to continue buying the newly released issues of my series all it says is ‘wish list’ and when I click the link that says ‘how do I read this’ and all it says is ‘ books you’ve purchased from comiXology are available here’ which tells me nothing. Not to add but I have to transfer over to this app because the DC app I was buying my comics from for many years is closing its app on the 28th and I’m stuck here. With just a big old wish list of books and no way to buy them without jumping though hoops..Version: 3.11.16

Such a massive downgradeThe latest update has rendered the app nigh-on unusable, it’s like they just released the beta version. Navigation is unnecessarily difficult, can’t even see how to preorder something unless it’s Marvel or DC. This is definitely going to hurt smaller publishers (wouldn’t be surprised if that was the intention). I’m switching back to physical copies until further notice - avoid at all costs..Version: 4.0

Terrible app, bad updateSince the kindle/Comixology app merger it's been horrid. Can't find anything to purchase easily, the app is utter garbage, false advertising. Highly recommend people to avoid this. It use to be an excellent app and purchasing platform and now it's effectively useless..Version: 4.0.2

Awful, now. Beyond awful. My entire library is gone. As far as the design of the new app, you can’t find anything other than a tiny, absolutely tiny, handful of “featured” issues, search brings up a confusing and completely disjointed mess of random, totally unconnected issues with no sense of flow and absolutely no comprehension of the way single-issue comics aren’t just totally separate. That’s if you are lucky. Often it brings up nothing at all. A number of books are exceedingly low-quality scans that look pirated. You are constantly invited to “download a (ultra-low-quality) sample” even when you do find manage to find a book. They seem to be pushing customers to do this, but when you try to find it on their absolutely appalling mess of a website, to buy, it usually doesn’t appear or takes literally half an hour to find. App is literally impossible to navigate now and website is appalling. Almost all titles seem to have been permanently removed. You can’t subscribe to series any more. You can’t find offers or reduced in price titles any more. You can’t search by series any more. The entire thing is a disjointed mess and looks exceedingly amateurish in every possible way. ComiXology was a brilliant app in the past, but with the new update the *only* way it could be worse is if it didn’t open at all or was full of viruses. I really can’t stress fully enough how ludicrously, staggering, jaw-dropping unprofessional this all is, now. It’s a real shame..Version: 4.0.2

Barely useful in CanadaStart the service in Canada please.Version: 4.0.6

Useful features just… goneWhere on earth is the ability to display two pages of a comic book side by side in landscape mode? I have an iPad Pro that’s easily capable of doing that, and it *was* a feature, previously, so why on earth was it removed? It makes the viewing experience noticeably sub-par for some comics, which have a massive two-page splash (e.g., a few strips in The Sandman)..Version: 4.0.3

You can’t do anything!!! 😡😣Right when you come in you have to sign in I thought you could do this all for free no paying , or signing in ! This is pointless! Immediately after I got the add I downloaded- But nooo . You can’t do anything in Canada ! It’s completely pointless ! And time wasting ! 😠.Version: 3.11.4

Buggy & FreezesIt freezes up and is buggy when turning the iPad on/off/on again. You have restart the app. Otherwise continuous reading is fine..Version: 4.0.3

Not usableSo poorly designed. No access to book information or other books of the series. The search in amazon website finds nothing, all mixed with amazon CRAP. Byebye amazon, you lost a customer to kobo!.Version: 4.0.3

Update as bad as everybody says…and worseUnbelievable decision to completely gut the app. Unanimous disappointment from fans loyal to the app for years speaks volumes..Version: 4.0.2

Does not computeDon’t get me wrong, I like this app. A lot. I love my old comics, but I do enjoy the ability to expand the art, and to see it in rgb, the way the colorists intended, over cmyk. And it’s great on vacations not stuffing a bag with comics over clothes. That said, we all now have to live the scene in “40 Year Old Virgin”, where Jonah Hill’s character is in the Ebay Store, asking to buy some silver boots, to which he’s told he must go onto eBay to bid on them, even though he’s standing there with money to pay for them. Now when we use this app, we have to then go online to the comiXology site to buy books we come across while in this app instead of the convenient way we had it before? It’s not the end of the world, it’s just extra unnecessary steps when the previous way worked so well. I hope they decide to bring back in-app purchasing..Version: 3.11.6

This app is garbageOnce upon a time this app was good. You could buy comics on it and read them. Then Jeff decided he had only made 100 billion dollars that year so changed it. And now it takes ages to even refresh when you’ve gone through the purchasing phase of comics buying on the website. Would give zero stars if I could.Version: 3.11.17

Worse new interfaceThe previous app was not perfect, not being able to purchase comics on the app is obviously absurd and so navigating to sales was not as intuitive. Now, the lists are organized in a worse way. There are no smart lists and there is no way to separate between on device and cloud books. The sorting options are fine, but it feels like there are some obvious options missing. Switching to landscape mode does not automatically fit to the correct aspect ratio and also turns it into vertical scrolling for some reason. It is a categorical failure of an update and I sincerely hope they make sweeping changes or, perhaps more simply, return the app to its previous state..Version: 4.0

When an upgrade is a downgradeComixology has been a daily part of my life for years, I've collected thousands of graphic novels and today as part of what am guessing is one of Amazon's famed cost cutting measures they've just skinned the Kindle app. Worse it's forgotten when I was up to in a couple of comics hundreds of pages in length and worse than that it's completely forgotten all the books I've read and deleted them all off my iPad so need to manually sort through them all again by hand. This is not Obsessing about Customer as they famously claim..Version: 4.0

Amazing app, just one thingThis is the perfect app for a comic fan, old or Only thing that really bums me out is that the unlimited comics option is not available in my country, but the entire app is flooded with ads for what you get with the unlimited comics which really bums me out that I can’t read. Other than that perfect app and really hope the unlimited option is available in Australia soon.Version: 3.11.14

Bad quality remainsToday (29th March 2022) I uploaded the latest upgrade for my iPad with retina display. No improvement since the catastrophic downgrade of the app in February. The picture quality remains catastrophic, even if you delete the old download of a comic and download the comic again. (Somewhere on the web it is claimed that would make a difference in the latest update) A diagonal straight line looks like a staircase!!! No comparison with how it looked in the old Comixology app. I have not used the app since February. I only looked at one or two pages and closed it in dismay. It only annoys me and makes me angry. I strongly recommend to avoid this app..Version: 4.0.2

Needlessly ComplicatedFirst, I want to say, this is a great and easy app to use for reading comics. That being said, I have two major problems with it. 1. What’s the point in paying a subscription service if you ALSO have to pay for the digital comics you’re getting? There are some free ones, but they’re all individual parts of bigger stories, or they’re just not worth reading. The stuff worth reading is always extra. 2. If you’re going to make people buy the comics they want to read as well, you should allow them to do it USING YOUR OWN APP. The fact that I ALSO have to go to the safari window to open Comixology just to buy something, then go to the app to actually read it, is ridiculous. It’s 2021 and you don’t have a “buy now” option in your app? Are you just trying to turn people away or do you just want to make everything needlessly complicated? I’m trying this app on a trial run right now, but so far, none of this is worth it. The only reason I’m even giving a second star is because the reading is actually fluid and nice when you actually get to finally read a comic..Version: 3.11.14

Change for the worseI always update apps but on this occasion I shouldn’t have. All my downloaded comics have vanished and so now I don’t know what I have left to catch up on. On mobile all comics are showing as unread. I knew about the move to kindle style app for comics, but this move has turned what was a great app that moved me away from physical comics into a one star app..Version: 4.0

Impossible to find checkout on Phone AppIf I’m not on a desktop computer and purchasing directly from the site, the comiXology app has now made it impossible to purchase comics - instead cramming them Into a wishlist without a checkout. That ONE enormous flaw is now pushing me and other users to either seek out torrents or buy hard copies. Sort it out!! Additionally, the hipster “Funko style” videos sent in emails? Don’t do that. We know how comics work, and aren’t interested hearing from Yoko, Mitch or Sully how best to read them...Version: 3.10.7

Extemely irritatingThis would have to be the most aggravating way to buy comics. Paid around $25, wont let me download or even READ it!.Version: 3.11.16

Latest update = Kindle liteThe latest update to this app has removed much loved features and I’ve yet to find any improvement made. The comic reading experience has also changed and does not feel as smooth as before. This app is now almost identical to the Kindle app and it wouldn’t surprise me if this is the first step in a journey to eventually consolidate Comixology into the Kindle app. Very disappointing..Version: 4.0.1

No longer works, don’t waste your timeIf you live in Canada, or anywhere that isn’t the US or UK, you will not be able to buy comics anymore, I used to spend a lot of money on comics through the app, but it’s impossible now, no sales anymore or anything. Can’t wait for someone to create a new app that you can buy comics at a good price from all of the studios..Version: 4.0.3

My three wishes...I really like this app but, for me, three essential features are missing. 1) I can’t purchase comics directly through the app (I understand why but that doesn’t make it less annoying). 2) I can’t permanently delete unwanted titles, I can only archive them. 3) In my library, I can’t create separate folders/sections for different publishers. If I can only have one wish, I’ll settle for number three....Version: 3.11.7

How to make a Bad app worseThis has never been a good app. Downloading was always bad, reading the comics was often laggy. Using it to buy was impossible. But now it’s even worse! I had my entire library downloaded with the old version, but after updating to the latest version it deleted my entire library, why!? And then, to really rub salt in the wound, it won’t re-download anything.? It just shows as starting to download a comic, but then never actually does. At least the old app let me use it for its purpose, not this version though, and their customer services is disgusting..Version: 4.0.2

Horrible appNot much more to say, as a Canadian the apps full options were never fully open to me but after this new update it’s horrible..Version: 4.0.3

Making it harder to enjoy comics. It might be overkill to give the app 1 star, but it cannot be stressed just how much worse the new version of this app is over the previous one. Everything that was simple and easy is now cumbersome and complicated. Features that just worked before (syncing between devices, remembering what you’ve read/what you haven’t read yet, etc) just don’t anymore. Organization is a nightmare. The old version wasn’t perfect, but it was at least specifically designed for comic book reading, and most importantly of all it just worked. This was the equivalent of seeing a perfectly functional car, and deciding that the best way to improve it was to break all the windows.Version: 4.0

Used to be great, not anymoreI used to use Comixology religiously and spent considerably on comics via their website. This app is now almost completely unrecognisable since it merged with the kindle design. I have completely stopped buying comics online now and rarely read them as a result. A huge shame but the experience is just too much of a headache.Version: 4.0.7

Missing stuffThe new app is bare bones. Not being able to group by series is a serious problem. The “smart “ stuff of the old app I can live without, but actually being aware what the app is for , serial publications would be nice. Also if this is badly formatted, it’s not my fault the edit screen in the app is black text on a dark grey background, I cannot see what I am typing..Version: 4.0.1

The worstThe original app was so easy to use but after this latest update it’s a joke. I can no longer tell which comics have been downloaded and which are still in the cloud. The whole interface is so confusing to use. When I saw the email the other day about updates coming I was worried what it would look like and worst fears are now confirmed. If your mission was to make it harder for people to use then job successful..Version: 4.0

What's with the latest version???A massive step back on the app. If you are not going to let us read what we bought. At least refund us our money back.Version: 4.0.3

Pointless appCan’t actually purchase any books through the app, can only add them to a wish list. Offers no process on how to actually read these books. What’s the point..Version: 3.11

New Version Does Literally NothingIt’s basically kindle. No ability to discover new books, can only view whatever you already purchased from Amazon. I shouldn’t have updated it 😭.Version: 4.0.2

4.0 update ruins itComixology used to have a darn good app. The library was easy to use, the store did a good job of highlighting comics and the reading interface was really good. Since version 4.0 the library is more like Kindles, which isn’t as well suited to comics. The store doesn’t seem to have near as much. But far and away the worst is the new reading view. Zoom doesn’t work. Guided view only partially works. In a lot of comics the panel view only zooms very slightly making it barely better than nothing. Landscape mode is horrible. The page is fit to the screen vertically making it tiny. And guided view doesn’t expand to fill the screen. Several of my comics show up sideways. I’ve got to lock the screen rotation in the OS and the turn the screen to read those. Even then I’ve got to remember to swipe up and down instead of left and right. I can’t believe they ever even tested this,it’s just awful. Prior to the update this was a 5 star app.Version: 4.0

AwfulSo this latest change tells me to update but it then sends me into an endless loop where I can't update nor can I access any of the thousands of comics that I have purchased. Simply dreadful. Did no one even test this before releasing it?.Version: 3.11.16

I’m heartbrokenI have over 400 titles on Comixology and the app was once my go-to platform to buy and read comics. Since the fusion with Kindle, I can no longer buy eComics through Amazon in Canada and the updated app, which wasn’t great tro begin with, is even worse. I’m heartbroken that Amazon has gutted Comixology and made it impossible to purchase comics for tablet..Version: 4.0.7

Lawsuit waiting to happenReverse every change made ASAP, this is not delivering the products we have paid for. You have removed functionality, and decreased quality. Not to mention: it doesn’t even work..Version: 4.0

Huge step backThe previous version was quite good and did everything I wanted from a comics reader app. The smart lists put things where I wanted them, and made browsing my library very easy. This new version has really cut that back, making browsing more difficult, and not being clear about what's actually downloaded and what's not. The actual reader view is mostly unchanged, which is good, but for something intended to manage weekly periodicals, this is really not great. Amazon's integration of Comixology has been largely botched and would have been better simply leaving it as it was..Version: 4.0

PoS AppMassive backwards step. Will not buy another graphic novel until in-app purchases are reinstated..Version: 3.6

Manual OrganizationI was extremely disappointed with this app. Its completely pointless since its just a copy of the kindle app. Why would anyone bother with two? I was hoping that an app specializing in comics would understand the needs of comic readers better. I’m talking about filing and categorizing. I have a large collection of DC comics, following Batman and his Bat family across different titles. Any comic reader would know how difficult it is to keep track of stories with crossovers and Rebirth and the 52 etc. The option to organize comics according to publishing date doesn’t work because you have new editions and collections etc. The current options are hopeless and i get frustrated following any story line. I was hoping this app would provide better filing options. I would have liked to be able to manually organize my comics into files, and order them within the file also manually, so that every big story has all the crossover comics in one neat pile. Another great thing would be to have the files then appear in a horizontal list, and be able to add my own notes next to it..Version: 4.0.4

New version is so much worseThe UI is very generic and unhelpful. You can’t easily browse your collection or discover new comics. You can’t even see previews or what’s been downloaded. The whole UI on iPad stretches and it’s poorly designed. The previous version was quite basic, but at least was functional. I was going to buy some new comics, but after this update I don’t think I will..Version: 4.0.1

Sadly I have to give this one star for now..I truly have no idea what’s happened to this app. The interface has started to tear and glitch, but right now the biggest sin is the download times I'm getting for these comics. I’ve downloaded a single issue book, not a collection, for over 45 minutes and it has absolutely nothing to do with my internet its the app. The bigger collection downloads are way, way worse. If you’re lucky and had a few already downloaded before things started going south then you’re in luck but if you’re excited to pick something new up, either find a different way to view it or be prepared to wait for at least an hour or more to read it. Hopefully if/when they repair that issue I’ll be happy to go up a couple stars but for now it’s borderline unusable..Version: 4.0.7

UnfriendlyThis app is unfriendly.Version: 4.0.7

Best comic reader; moderately good appThe is the best comic reader on the market by far in terms of assortment, reading technology, and support. However, when you have a large collection of books, the app becomes subpar. The main issue is how the app checks against all your owned books before displaying your locally stored comics. So, if you’re on the subway and you’re losing data and want to read, you open the app and then the app will check against your library of books. Problem is you have bad data so you can’t do that check. So you’re stuck looking at a loading wheel unable to access your books. Seems like this could be solved with either a small check against recently purchased OR if data is below a certain threshold AND a user has a certain number of books owned just abort the check and show local books. There may be a concern around privacy and DRM but if someone has a lot of books then they’ve given you a lot of money and I think it’s alright to lose a bit on privacy here to give good UX..Version: 3.11.7

Not as good as the previous version but worksNot as good as the previous version but works. A lot of quality of life features are still missing. If the pre Kindle version was a 4 to 5 star app, then this one is a 2 to 3 star app. I’m actually left wondering why it was the Comixology app that was changed and not the Kindle app.Version: 4.0.2

Lack of Landscape SupportWhile the app itself works decently, the lack of landscape support is a buzz kill for users of iPads with a keyboard attached. It is awkward to use with the Brydge 12.9..Version: 3.11.7

DisasterSo many important features chucked out the window. Comics and prose books are fundamentally different experiences, so turning Comixology into essentially a buggy clone of the Kindle app makes zero sense. Want to search for a title but only want to see series’s or trades? Tough luck — get ready to be bombarded with individual issues. Want to see who coloured or lettered a comic? Too bad — they’re all “authors’ now. That’s on top of how unbearably sluggish the navigation and reading experiences are (on an iPad Pro no less). Comixology 4.0 is a huge misstep — which is sad, because it will inevitably lead to more piracy, which means your favourite creators won’t be compensated..Version: 4.0

Epic FailThis is an updated review… and I’m so angry and done with this app. Amazon just totally destroyed this and have done zero in the last year to even make slight improvements. Searching for comics online is such a hassle, I can’t be bothered anymore. I’m looking to drop money on a bunch of new comics, but it won’t be via Comixology or Amazon. I actually wish Amazon would just put this lame duck to death, so another developer can run with a new app that results in a decent user experience. This is just all around awful. 😡😡😡.Version: 4.0.3

Poor UX all aroundWhile I share the frustration of others about not being able to purchase, I understand the rationale for not wanting to fork 30% to Apple. That is not excuse for lack of integration between the app and site (for instance a “buy” button that takes you to the purchase page for that comic) or poor guidance (what’s the use of telling me members enjoy free comics, and making me dig through the internet to understand the membership and how it relates to Prime?) The app was much much better before Amazon purchased it..Version: 3.11.7

SadThis app used to be great. I bought more comics than I ever read simply because I could. They were just one click away. Now all that is gone. The in App Store is gone and with it this customer. The app is useless to me now.Version: 3.6.1

A great app and experience ruined for no viable reasonAs a 10 year user of Comixology. I can say that the new 4.0 update has ignored anything I enjoyed about the app and my shopping experience. It has made it profoundly unpleasant in every aspect, from purchasing my comics through viewing current or previous purchases. I feel that this decision was done without the end users in mind. I moved over from hard copy to digital for space saving purposes. This new shopping update and reader have been a throughly negative experience. It has changed my comic purchasing and reading patterns. I purchase less, read less and as my story lines end, discontinuing the purchases. Maybe down the line it’ll improve but currently it’s a hard pass..Version: 4.0.2

Amazon ruined a great interface. They bought the only game in town and ripped it to shreds. Functionality reduced tenfold. No ability to browse the store (maybe in the US but not elsewhere. Huge disappointment. And I must ask: why? I can't imagine this niche-within-a-niche market was profitable enough for a behemoth of this magnitude. It is both enraging and befuddling. And it sucks. Wish zero stars was an option..Version: 4.0.7

This app is horribleI live in Canada and I would expect it to work but it’s saying I have to pay to use the app false advertising.Version: 3.11.7

Best Features GoneThe old app was much better than the “improved” version. I wonder, Did they ask comic readers to test it? It is very difficult to find what is read and unread. Like many other reviews, I used and loved the Smart List feature. Another feature that was awesome was the Next In Series feature. When you finished a comic, it would tell you the next in the series or story arc. If you owned it, you clicked to read, if not, you could wish-list it right there. In all seriousness, and this is not an over exaggeration, the new app has me on comic life support. It has already killed much of the fun of collecting and reading them. I have many unread comics, but will I buy more? Doubtful. It’s just too much work and no fun..Version: 4.0.1

No StarsUtter rubbish. All it does is show any comics you have purchased in the past to read. No Store to buy from. Guess you need to use your web browser now????.Version: 3.6.1
