✓ Can’t believe they brought ad watchingIt used to be a nice game despite the constant pledges to spend money on all sorts of buffs and resources. But the recent addition to allow players to watch ads in return to rewards really put me off and I’m likely to leave the game. I know I don’t have to watch them, but some do so it will just increase the gap between players. Game developers should choose a commercial model for their games: it’s paid, or ad-based, or freemium (free to play, purchase optional). Mixing types is just too annoying..Version: 4.9
✓ Fun game, ignorant devsI’ve waited 9 months to review this game. I am currently vip lvl 11, which means I have spent quite a bit of money on this game. The first thing I would like to mention is the devs do not fix existing issues, they prefer to release new unwanted content for people to chase. Issues with the AI matching 3 and getting extra turns, player matching gems and getting no mana ( with no status effects, no - banner, the match happens you see the animation float over to the troop, but you do not get the mana.) this week was a new release mythic. I spent 600 gem keys, 2300 glory keys, and 1500 guild keys @ the highest tier and got nothing more than an epic. Additionally they will be updating to 4.7, this will in effect eliminate legendary tasks for 95% of players, hundreds if not thousands of players have told the devs they do not want this, we are ignored. Their “compromise” was an additional 40 glory keys. In closing, the devs are ignorant to players wants, they pretend to care using puppets like Salty and Kafka, who tow the company line and try to get people to believe that your leg is wet because it is raining, not because they are peeing on you. New players? Forget it. Save yourself the BS, don’t install this game..Version: 4.6.5
✓ Good game with some flawsFirst off let me say I this game is fun and I recommend anyone that enjoys RPGs, fantasy, and gem matching games to download and play it. However I it has its flaws particularly around match making and user feedback. Long story short, as a level 6 I tried the "invade" option and was matched against someone far higher than me. I didn't check the level of my opponent before blindly continuing on because in every game I've played I have safely assumed the games match making would pit me against someone similar in experience. So I lost 500+ gold in my second hour of playing. So just be careful of invading if you're new. Devs: please make it more obvious to new players that they might be matched against higher level opponents when invading. Since then I have clicked into invade again and I was matched against a level 48 when I am level 8. I see you provide a chance to skip but as someone trying things out I didn't realise I needed to be so careful - an expensive mistake. It's the only thing keeping my rating down..Version: 1.0.692

✓ Terrible since last updateI’ve played this game for a long time and enjoyed it. It’s just frustrating now since the last update. The odds are ridiculously against you now, in all game modes. For example, my best win streak in PVP mode is over 60. I have a hard time winning two in a row now. The gems fall against you and totally in favour of the AI. Until recently, frustrating would never have been how I’d describe this game. I don’t want to even play it anymore. If you enjoy a game that leaves you P.O.’ed, give it a go..Version: 4.3

✓ Once brilliant game now ruined by latest updateI’ve been playing this game for over a year and the latest update has just killed it. Battles wouldn’t load after twenty mins. Followed online advice to verify account, delete and reinstall the game and link the game. But the settings wouldn’t give me a password even after I verified the account. However on trying to link to my account after reinstalling it asked for a password which I’ve never been provided. So I’ve now lost a years progress on this game. ✓ Sadly, this game is in steep declineI’ll start by saying that if you’re a newcomer considering this game, don’t bother. If you do, don’t spend any money on it. I’ve been playing this game and enjoying it for years—it’s a fantastic concept—but unfortunately, in the past year the quality and support has dramatically declined. New features are clearly not beta tested, glaring bugs (such as missing artwork for many troops) are reported by players and simply ignored by the developers, and in the game’s forum, reps for the game rarely respond to feedback, and even when they do, it’s a one-time “we’ll look into it” message that never results in a solution. In a recurring event released today, it’s comically obvious the devs didn’t bother to remove placeholder elements in the template. I have spent a significant amount of money on this game over the years, because I do believe devs should be paid for their work, and I got real value from the game. However, that’s changed. I certainly won’t be spending anything going forward unless there’s significant improvement. In fact, things have gotten so bad I wouldn’t be surprised if the game was simply shut down soon, as it seems the company that owns it has lost interest in truly supporting it..Version: 6.9.5

When am I going to find 5 replicas of the same legendary or mythic unit? This becomes especially apparent when fighting higher level battles, in which the enemy ALL have 3 traits, which tend to magnify their already boosted stats and makes it almost impossible to beat them. ✓ Massive money wall, don’t bother.The core game never really changes but you get to a point where your opponents can one shot you and the only real way to win is to pay to upgrade or boost your troops. Shame really as I enjoy the gem matching part but if you start paying the kinds of money they want, it would put you way past the cost of say a triple-A PS5 game. ✓ GoWI’m going to start out and tell you this game is fun and very addicting to play, which is why I give it 3 out of 5 stars. There only downfall is the TEAM (guild play). It is important to be on a guild to help you through the process of resources in this game. With that being said all resources are done weekly and they reset every week. Now what’s odd with this they have trophies that your guild can accumulate every week and they are pretty useless as your guild gets nothing for these trophies, except your overall rank in guild. I’m ok with this process, but they never reset the trophies like everything else so that teams that have been playing longer than new teams you will never ever catch them. It’s the only thing that measures your guild and you can never know how really good your team can be each week because your trophies never reset. So new guilds can never get excited about their status. Plus in GW’s if your a new guild and really good, you can’t climb the brackets. Your always stuck in the back with guilds who don’t even play or have one member. The sad thing is I’ve been playing a year now and it has been brought up in forums and brought up to the developers of game and they never comment about it, or fix it. ✓ Was great, but....This game used to be incredible. Unlike most F2P match-3s, there's no energy bar, no fee just to play. You can play whenever you want, as long as you want, without worrying about running out of lives. However, I'm not sure why you'd want to, any more. The latest update has sucked the fun right out of the gameplay, by adding an AI that forces the player to rely far more on luck than on strategy, when it used to be the other way around. It's also become much more pay-to-win, but that's not nearly as irritating as the gameplay, which has been utterly destroyed. They took a fun little game and turned it into a miserable slog. Now for the most part it seems that the game is just a money grab. the over complexity of the game is ridiculous. But when I wanted to make sure I could play this on my iPhone as well, I got into their account linking “hell”. When I tried to use a different email address, I again never got an email to set up my password, but worse: next time I started the game, it started completely new. Trying to log a problem on their website and they force you to look at all other problems and you can’t even log anything new easily. The UI is blurred, hard to see, can barely see health bars, mana is confusing especially for a new player, gold trim looks terrible on troops, Mythics look bad, there is no reward to get that light blue border on making a troop mythic. Players are leaving globally as we speak. There are guilds that have open spots all over the place. Players equal profits and good customer service makes people spend. I have been in a chat with over a hundred players who are going to quit until they are heard. The new weekly event is trying to lower gem savings and is a cash grab. Everyone I have talked to will never buy gems. I have spent money where it is needed like on Dragon armor. Cramped up game play makes for a unpleasant experience. I loved this game. Also your player base is adults not 7 year olds. This will fall on deaf ears like treasure hunt did when a admin’s girlfriend/wife liked it as is so there was no change. People have 10s of thousands of treasure maps. Pay attention because attention gets paid. A fix to this update bleed would be allowing players to revert back to the old UI or keep the new one. Lycanthropy basically introduces further distress to an already highly unenjoyable experience of enemy rng... forced to sit there and watch as the gems cascade and ruin you and disrespect your investment ...which is the game’s GREAT flaw. Mortal combat moved the dizzy feature to the end compared to street fighter as a thoughtful adjustment towards interest in making a good game experience. Fatalities became iconic. Collection hype and guild involvement are your pluses. But decisions like adding in “lycanthropy” show off the blatant ignorance unfortunately. But improving your cards or classes takes a lot of resources, which DOES take some time. Which wouldn’t be an issue, except once you commit the resources, they’re spent. And this morning, I logged in to find they’ve completely overhauled one of my cards that I invested a LOT into, and it’s now ineffective with my lineup. There are hundreds of cards, all with unique special abilities. ✓ Fun game but buggy beyond all beliefI’ve been playing Gems of War for eight months. I’ve spent quite a bit of money on it too, as in over $50, maybe much more. You don’t have to… you can play it free… but there are some perks to spending money. Sadly, reliability is not one of them. The game is crappy on reliability, and I’m close to asking Apple to refund the money since the game WON’T EVEN START. And filing a ticket for support doesn’t help; they take typically several MONTHS to respond to tickets. But I did file one, a while ago, for their latest update blocking the game starting. If you sort reviews by date, you’ll see they’ve had this problem for three days. And the only response is them telling people to contact support. Which, again, won’t help because they won’t reply. They’ll fix this, in a week probably. By which time you’ve lost your daily-rewards for not logging in daily. Lest you think this is a one-time thing, no, they have regular problems where you win a bout but lose the rewards because “Your game is out of sync with the server.” They’ve been working that the whole time I’ve had the game. You can't buy troops, you have to painfully trudge through expensive quests (why do games insist on you the player having to pay gold to do a quest?!) and then you are stuck with some pretty cruddy ones. Options to upgrade are nice, but it's a random +1 stat. Invading and defending is fine, though invading is best left until you have decent troops. The game seems to want you to make IAP because the gameplay is so slow to get anywhere. ✓ Complete disadvantageI enjoyed this game up until it started to become very unfair. Stuck on this level for days now with umpteenth attempts. The issue is that the board works in a way where the skulls generate only for the AI, I only match colours that aren’t relevant to power up my allies and I can’t even target enemies who can literally take me out in one hit. I’ve tried different teams, I’ve upgraded allies, and still can’t beat it. Almost did, but then the board gave the AI skulls and I was taken out yet again. I’m guessing it wants you to spend money for better upgrades and to get more souls and whatever else you have to do to have some fairness in the game, but you can forget about that. This server error always occurs when I play treasure maps and I manage to get more than 60 moves in.... sorry please restart game! ✓ Would give negative stars if I couldIt’s takes a minimum of 60-70 matches just get what you need to fully upgrade ONE character. You have to do runs of explore and one run is 5-6 matches(5 regular one mini boss). But realistically it’s more like hundreds of matches because the game is literally always dropping exactly what the enemies need. I cannot tell you how many times I am one move away from winning just for the game to drop what the enemies need to kill me. There have been times where I literally have not got a turn for MINUTES because the game just keeps dropping the enemy team extra turns. You will almost never see turns like that for yourself. And then if you do get lucky to complete a full run you better hope to get lucky again and actually get what you need from the run. You can play for hours just doing these runs and not see a single thing you need. And you have to do this for every character so good luck actually getting better characters.Version: 6.4
✓ It passed its golden ageI am a level 1066 player in Gems of war. So I put in my hours. While this game provided lots of entertainment in the past and some aspects of it are still fun and playable. I can say confidently that it has passed its golden age and many parts of the game are no longer playable/enjoyable. The high synergy between many cards at this stage render opponent teams is too powerful to counter. There are many card combinations at the moment that will beat you in one or two turns with little or no window for your to respond - regardless of the strength of your own team. Therefore taking away all the fun that made this game great. Some serious card nerfing needs to take place because the game in now broken..Version: 4.3
✓ Too much varietyGoW, at its core, is a fun game. The number of team building options are fantastic, and the guild system does a great job rewarding those who’ve worked together within the game for a long time. The recent changes are obvious attempts at monetization that have diluted that system, though. The pets are pointless. Guild Wars are still a ton of fun, but the Raid Boss and Invasion events are dull grindfests that lack variety and encourage gem spending to progress beyond a certain plateau. That plateau comes a lot sooner if you don’t have top-tier troops for that week’s event, a more likely outcome now that the drop rates for Mythics have plummeted (except in VIP chests, I’d guess). Let guilds choose which events they want to do—if a guild wants to only play Guild Wars every week, let them do that. You can incentivize variety by allowing guilds that play the three different events type to gain more rewards, but those of us who would gladly sacrifice rewards to have more fun should be able to do so. As it is, I find myself virtually ignoring the game two out of three weeks, and I doubt that’s the outcome the devs want for dedicated players..Version: 3.4.016
✓ This game is going downhill fast.First of all with this last update I have never seen so many new players quit the game after just a few days. You are locked into a boring group of kingdom stories and have to finish them all before you can unlock the soul forge which could have been really helpful at the beginning. My niece started the game, joined my clan and we helped in every way we could and even when she hit level 100 still didn’t have a decent team to do much with and she was only halfway through the mandatory boring kingdom stories. She quit of course and is now playing Puzzles and Dragons and having a blast. This game has terrible loot chest drops, cheating AI, and with each update it goes more towards pay to win. New players don’t have a chance. People who have played from the beginning have weapons and creatures that are much harder to get now. So do yourself a favor and play a different game. This one will just make you angry. Oh also pay attention to dev responses especially the stupid one that says they tested the AI and it DOESNT cheat then they go on to say in fact IT CHEATS for the player which it does not. So they say it doesn’t cheat then admits it does. If it did cheat for the player there wouldn’t be so many AI cheating complaints. They must think we are stupid. Do not support them!.Version: 4.5

When trying to reset the links they send are all broken and when logging support they say min 12 business days wait time. It can be pretty addictive and you can have a lot of fun without ever shelling out money. Designing teams is also a lot of fun. However, they insert in app purchases in several places. It’s not just one store. And the prices seem ridiculous. They also have several currencies and resources designed to make leveling up impossible. If I look through the collections tab the delve troops are shown, but when I actually begin the delve attempt and can pick from the available troops, the troops specific to that delve are not fixable. Not to mention that there are several troops whose pictures are still not visible on mobile devices. When these are fixed I will change my rating. A scoring bug that had a massive impact on guild wars looks like it won’t get fixed for next guild wars after a four week time frame. After an initial response to say they’ll look into it, there’s just been radio silence. This the biggest of the many unacceptable bugs. Unfortunately the latest update has the app crashing quite a lot & the performance is just a lot slower. If the arena bugs out at troop select there's just no way to get past it... Not to mention the game just randomly crashing when trying to open a menu. ✓ Every new update brings in more crashesI love the game so much and putting in lots of hours but its seriously annoying when keep crashing when starting a match!!! Please resolve this soon! Its making me afraid to invade players as it keeps crashing 80% of the time now and im just keep getting minus trophies and money! ✓ Ruined by freemiumDougQuiad is right. Whilst the concept here is a nice evolution on Puzzle Quest, it's been almost completely ruined by becoming a freemium game. Every battle costs a large amount of coins, coin regeneration is incredibly slow and you just can't shake the feeling that the AI is cheating (ramping up the difficulty as described elsewhere and conveniently getting incredibly favourable gem draws on the board far too often to ascribed to random chance) in order to "encourage" you to spend on coins. I'll keep an eye on it in case the balance is adjusted but in the meantime, the original Puzzle Quest is far more fun..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Amazing but...Gems of war is my absolute favourite game on mobile…. Sorry, WAS my absolute favourite game. I’ve dumped so much money into this name without question and had no problem doing such. However…. The last couple of updates really ruined the game for me. One, if you’re playing on iPhone get ready for the game crashing after certain critical battles. There is a way around this, but not within the game program. The devs simply won’t or can’t fix it. Second, with the addition of lycanthropy the game has become stupidly unbalanced. This new gameplay feature has ruined the game in my opinion. I am a high level level experienced player. But lycanthropy has ruined the game. Almost reason enough to hang it up. I don’t see them removing or nerfing this in favour of the player also so it’s pretty much game over for me. Too bad, this game was amazing. Not so much anymore..Version: 5.6.1
✓ Almost greatA great match 3 RPG game with a lot of depth to keep you coming back. It’s not really pay to win as you can’t buy troops, you can only buy a gems to open chests which give you a chance to get a powerful troop but chances are slim to keep you rebuilding teams with what you have. Avoid PVP! Pvp ruins the game with overpowered troops like Queen Beatrix who charges herself up while attacking, while getting another go, while making more gems to have another turn. You don’t get a turn, it’s just boring. Freeze them to stop the extra turn? Nope, her trait stops that. Either her or general Goblin teams. You just don’t get to play. So boring..Version: 5.4
✓ Excessively pay to winUnless you're willing to pay, you're never going to reach the same playing field as the payers who do pay. It's not just a couple of dollars you're required to pay either, but rather $40-80 a pop... And no just once either. The game does provide you in-game resources required to advance, but it is at a ridiculously slow pace as to make it almost impossible to advance without forking over the cash. ✓ Not happy please fix!This is a great game, however since the latest update I am constantly getting connection error messages and script error messages. I just tried to open a gem chest when I get a script error message. I logged back on and the key is gone and I don't have my reward! ✓ Slow monetisation creep evidentUpdate 5.0 = :( Has become tedious and grindy and more money-grabbing since the introduction of medals and deeds. Explore mode is zero fun, and the rewards from any match are hardly worth the effort. Souls are a massive requirement for upgrading troops, but so heavily capped now it is such a drag. All my favourite modes are relegated to weekend events, in favour of awful lore events every week that scale up in difficulty too quickly to progress unless you spend gems to buy extra sigils to use several sigils per battle to artificially boost your stats. Definitely skewed towards the paying player. Sure, it’s still possible to play the game without spending real money, but progress is just snail pace. And the store prices are stupidly high for very little benefit, especially with the campaign paid tier. I don’t have a bottomless pit of money to throw away on games. If I’m spending money on a game, I want a fully loaded, full content game up front, not the next temporary buffs every few weeks. Shame, because I used to love this game; now it’s a chore, and a bad habit to be broken..Version: 5.0
✓ A good game let down by some bad programmingI have to say, this is a pretty good match-3 game. Unfortunately it's hampered by some poor programming. For both this version and the pre-xmas version I've had most of my non-story menu titles replaced with what I'm guessing are references to the character strings (examples are [open_chests], [buy_key_for], [visit_store], [your_friend_code_] complete with brackets) and just now I've had 2k of gold lost because the in-game store somehow lost sync with its online component and the purchase was failed. I can live with the intentional slowdown that comes with being a timer-based f2p title (and the stamina meter in this game is actually not too bad), but this is just the last straw. Time to move on to the next game, which will be just as disposable as its publisher will consider its customers..Version: 1.0.4
