My one gripe with the app, though, is that many of the puzzles, especially the hard ones, have ambiguous solutions. Otherwise, it would be 5 stars. Many of the harder puzzles have a variation in mind, but these variations can be accomplished with a different order of moves. The app doesn’t accept the alternative order of moves. Kind of trivial, I know, but chess is in the details haha..Version: 2.03

✓ Straight forward Chess problemsI like this a lot, but the only thing that is driving me seriously nuts, is that I'm a beginner, and I'm going through easy and I don't necessarily know what the goal of the next step is everytime. For example, I did puzzle 15 on easy, it ended with me taking the bishop, but that wasn't necessarily checkmate. Maybe I'm missing something or im such a beginner that im missing something, but this definitely scratches my chess itch without having to play a whole game. ✓ Great but with GlitchesI love it. I've bought the 400 Easy Tactics add-in and when done with that plan to buy the Intermediate add-ins. Just a couple of things: Any puzzle involving pawn promotion freezes the game in my iPod 5 (I have up to date iOS) and I'm forced to go to the next puzzle having (in the test Progress puzzles) been penalized points. The second thing: in Progress puzzles I can never isolate just one pack, I always get all the packs including the dreaded Hard puzzles even if it is unchecked..Version: 1.04

✓ Great app but some moves make no senseI’ve played a bunch of the puzzles now, and there have been a bunch of times where it says I made a move incorrectly, when in reality it was wrong. There was a time where I could have checkmated the king by sacrificing my bishop, and it said it was wrong. The correct move wasn’t even checkmate. I continued to go through the problems even after I “solved” them, and found that the king could avoid checkmate 3-5 moves later. It was pretty annoying. But the difficulty was good. Although some puzzles are rated as “easy” they are definitely not beginner, and improved my game quite a bit..Version: 1.19

On some puzzles you must assume that your opponent will make a bad move in response to your move. You can’t “properly” solve that puzzle without that assumption. I’m on puzzle #36 in the intermediate level, and I was just thinking today that I noticed this method has actually improved my game. The two-four move challenges are not daunting enough to discourage, and I find it hard to not say, “Just one more, just one more...” Each “baby-step puzzle is like a bite-sized candy. And one can spend a fair amount of time using this app and feel consistently challenged. Its navigation is perhaps not quite as fluid as it would be after some improvement. And I join others in hoping that bugs are fixed relating to scenarios when one can mate in a single move as opposed to the prescribed six, as just one of several examples. ✓ I love this gameI always played chess but I was only marginally good. I love this because the puzzles are fun to do and I am learning so much faster than I normally would have. So I bought the entire set of puzzles and I am not disappointed. Now it’s my very favourite game to play. Sometimes I get irritated as I can do some moves that will come to the same result but it says wrong… so it forces you into one action but I don’t see that as a bad thing most times..Version: 2.03

However towards the middle of the intermediate puzzles did I encounter some thought-provoking puzzles. The difficult puzzles are excellent but on some of them I found alternative ways to beat the puzzle but the app tells me that I made a wrong move. There is no one right move in chess, so maybe instead of saying wrong move the app could tell me if it leads to a strong combination or a weak one. ✓ Great concept but missing flexibilityI love the concept of solving chess puzzles but it is too restricted and won’t accept alternative solutions. If it says “mates in 3 moves” and there is more than one sequence to do so, it should slow for that. Restrict it to 3 moves, sure, but don’t say “wrong” just because the sequence isn’t the prescribed one. Relax and allow for some creative experimentation and, if successful, then allow them to then learn the prescribed solution also. Just my opinion..Version: 2.03
✓ Great app - feature requestWe have hints and analyse, which if you haven’t yet solved it will give you at the very least the first move, but what would be nice is an analyse where the player can use both sides to think about the problem. Basically it’d be nice to have an analyse version where the player doesn’t have the arrows (keeping both would be important).Version: 1.24

✓ Good but...There are at times a few ways to solve the problems yet tells you your move is wrong. Odd queen for queen sacrifices as well. Good app to a point but best to know how to play to ensure you understand you can be correct even though you’re told it’s a wrong move...sometimes.Version: 1.16

Like really free, unlike nearly every other chess app. The puzzles are good, you can solve for estimated elo ratings, and has a built in engine to analyze moves. It streams very small adds on the bottom that are out of the way. This seems like a great way to make a free app. I hope the adds pay them well!.Version: 1.19

✓ Good but some mistakes.Generally I like this app. However, there are a few mistakes. Occasionally when I can’t solve a puzzle I click on analyze to see the solution. When I try to play the solution myself, the opposing pieces make different moves than those shown in the solution.
