BattleLore: Command for Positive User Reviews

Great funAs a fan of the board game I am so glad to see this on iOS. Wish it would save the game state, not much fun to come back to a game and have to start all over again. I also long for a totally top down view, as well as a way to highlight all units on the board. Looking forward to playing and seeing the improvements as they happen. I am also interested in seeing the Battles of Westeros battlelore board game ported to iOS..Version: 1.0

Close to great!Really enjoy the game - great conversion to digital. It would be 5-stars if they were to add async play to it. It would go from occasionally being played to opened daily for multiple games. I have several friends who will not buy until there is async play - don't let me down FFG!!.Version: 1.2

Excellent strategy gameI was so excited to see one of the boardgames in the commands and colors series ported to iOS. This is a great port and a really fun game. Those who complain about the dice rolls or difficulty need to become more familiar with how to play the game well to mitigate unlucky rolls, which is a big part of the the strategy for the boardgame itself. I hope this release leads to a port of this game's cousin, Memoir '44!.Version: 1.0

Masterpiece. This game is a steal at $10. I sold my physical copy because the setup and tear down took almost as long as the game itself. Having it on iphone/ipad is just awesome. This game is call-in-sick-for-work addictive. I’ve noticed some people who obviously don’t know how to play effectively, complaining that the dice rolls are skewed toward the AI - they are wrong. I’ve won most missions on the first try. It helps that I’m familiar with the system from the board game, but all the info is available in a very well laid out help section which can be accessed at any point during the game. This is currently the best strategy game for iOS in my opinion, and that includes X-Com, and anything from Slitherine, or Hunted Cow, etc, and I’ve played them ALL, including Uni-war, back when that was the best tbg iOS had to offer. Once you get a few missions under your belt and start to appreciate the “Command and Colors” system, this game is impossible to put down. The pace, and depth of strategy is spot on. Every single “die roll" you or your enemy makes will have you holding your breath, just like the original. Absolutely essential for strategy gamers..Version: 1.0

Great, but...Great game. I would enjoy it and play it all the time... if it were possible to save an unfinished game or with auto-save. A game can be long, half an hour or more, so I find myself most of the time not starting one because I am afraid not to have time to finish it. Consequence: I almost never play Battlelore even if I like it a lot and find the app exquisitely implemented. Please update the game to add this necessary feature!.Version: 1.2.1

Hardcore StrategyBeautiful game. Yes it's hard, but by tweaking my strategy I've been able to progress through the first four scenarios of the campaign. Well balanced, remarkably smart AI can beat you so my only complaint would be to why not let the campaign continue after a loss rather than having to wait for a win? Great job overall. Maybe my favorite war game this year. No complaints from me about unit abilities (although the enemy can devastate you) or performance on ipad 4..Version: 1.0

Missing mid mission savesI am really enjoying this game but it really needs mid mission saves and online multiplayer, other than that it is one of the best board game iOS adaptations. Really like the story mode, more board game apps need this..Version: 1.0

Proper fantasy war game!Fantasy Flight Games are one of the best producers of board and war games, and this app takes that expertise and brings it to the iPad. With both strategic and tactical elements this game has a depth beyond other great apps like Little Big War Game. The game is quite challenging too, so it will entertain for plenty time..Version: 1.0

Love the game, but needs a save buttonThese matches are long and I hate that I lose all the progress I put in, when real life needs me to stop play, I'd like to save my progress and come back later to pick up where I left off. Remember, this is mobile, flexibility and convenience is key, otherwise I won't touch it unless I know I have the time. And heaven forbid it crashes ... Otherwise, looks like a deep tactical game that has tons of replay-ability..Version: 1.0

BattleloreTerrific conversion of board game. We have had issues with multiplayer over the LAN. We keep getting disconnected. I hope this can be fixed. Urgently needs online play. It's only this that prevents this being a 5 star review..Version: 1.0

GorgeousLovely on the eye with solid tactics, unique movement system that adds greatly to it's depth. Love it....Version: 1.2.1

Great strategy title and campaignI've become a big board gamer over last couple years. Have been on the fence on whether to get battlelore board game and same for this. Finally bit bullet and got the app and love it. I suspect it might even be a bit better digitally instead of tracking all the unit types on the board game..Version: 1.2

Buy once, play foreverA great solid strategy game at last you a long long time without asking you for money every five seconds like a crackhead in need of a fix..Version: 1.2.1

Incredibly Made but Very CruelWhat an incredible digitisation of a boardgame! It runs incredibly smoothly (even on my ageing iPad 2) and is incredible to look at and use. It's technically phenomenal and really shows how digital boardgames can be done well. HOWEVER, please be aware that you will be repeatedly F'd in the A when it comes to dice rolls. Now, this may be accurate as I've not seen the dice in the original game. Perhaps the probabilities are accurate but it still doesn't hurt any less when you fire five consecutive volleys of arrows and generate zero hits (and only one flag). If you fancy yourself as a tactical genius you may relish the challenge of winning with units that just about know which end of a sword is dangerous. However, I personally have never just finished a play session with this game, it's always a quit through frustration. It's compelling right up until the final straw. Take that as you will. So, it gets four stars. It's an astounding digital implementation of a physical game but because the rolls are so brutal it's hard to say this will be a fun experience..Version: 1.0

Pas suffisamment de factionExcellent, mais il aurait été bien d'inclure plus de faction..Version: 1.0

Fun and challenging!!Picked up this premium game when it was on sale and finished the campaign over the weekend. I like turn base app games, such as panzer corp., WH quest, Xcom, civ., catan. ... Etc. got to add battlelore to my collection. This game is very fun and challenging. Some of the battles took me a while to finish. always try to take out the viper legion first. Idon't find dice cheating issue. Going to replay the game to unlock some of the battles and buy the extension to try the Uthukarmy. To me, this game is 5 stars!.Version: 1.2.1

Great game!Interesting and compellingly deep turn-based tactical combat, with excellent campaign mode. It is very challenging and even if you are making good decisions, the AI will win from time to time, but I wouldn’t say the virtual dice are rigged as some others suggest. With randomness, improbable results do occur and good strategy helps to mitigate that over time. Would be nice to see better set-up for online multiplayer - e.g. like Lords of Waterdeep, Terra Mystica or Through the Ages, but this is worth it for the single player campaign alone..Version: 1.2.2

Great gameI really like this game a lot. I thought the die rolls were shifted in favor of the computer until I looked up the probability rates of the different troops during combat (located in the manual on the title screen). Now it all makes sense to me..Version: 1.0

Oh I’m sorry, you thought you were winning?Just here to give a nice slow clap to your AI developer. *clap……. clap…… clap* When I safely nestled Baron to the backlines and prepared myself for a victory, little did I realize the little 2-man Uthuk archer would be wise enough to know he can still use the power of pinned to snatch Baron’s last 2 HP, even though the math was severely stacked up against him and there was plenty of other fresh meat around. >:) Great game, although it should be priced $199 since that’s what’ll cost you when you fling your iPhone across the room after these crushing defeats..Version: 1.2.1

Amazing title, needs some fixesI truly want to give this game the full 5 stars but one thing is holding me back. It crashes pretty consistently on my iPhone 6+ and when the app goes down there's no picking up mid-game. You have to start over. If it weren't for that I would gladly give it 5 stars. It's a lot of strategic fun and very polished when it comes to graphics, menus, and sound. Please fix the game so I can enjoy frustration free. Also, it doesn't beat you over the head with IAPs. You pay for a product and that's what you get. Thank you!.Version: 1.0

A Strategy Must BuyAbsolutely love this one. If you are into turn-based strategy this is a must buy. It even has a bit of the table top war game feel to it. I'm loving the single player campaign right now..Version: 1.2.1

Brilliant iOS portGameplay is smoother than expected on a phone, unit movements and animation are slick and well paced. Some minor changes to the command card system but overall doesn't affect play too much. Difficulty level is very good, gives a proper sense of accomplishment when victory is achieved. Multiplayer over LAN is also very smooth, hoping that online multiplayer is released soon! Overall brilliant game..Version: 1.0

Like it but ...I like it a lot but there should be a way to get expansions on the app to BattleLore..Version: 1.2.2

Makes the boardgame even better due to flavorI'm a fan of the boardgame , but was never into Terrinoh, the FFG's fantasy setting for this game. Well now i have a better 'feel' for the flavor of this world, and therefore have enhanced the boardgame experience. This game uses the tried and true Allan Moon's Commands and Colors game system, where activations, movement and combat are driven by cards. Great graphics, gret music. Awesome game..Version: 1.2.1

Bonne VersionUne belle adaption d'un bon jeux de table..Version: 1.0

Great gamePlays well and seems fair to me. I'm a player of the board game too as well as it's predecessor memoir 44. People should check the odds and probabilities in the help. For example some missile units hit much less than melee ones so this may lead to perception of unfairness. Now the game engines sorted roll out the version of memoir 44 I've been waiting for since I got an iPad many moons ago..Version: 1.0

Great AppThis is a excellent port of a fantastic board game. Works perfect on my iPad Mini. Sweet graphics and lots of replay-ability. Now I can play Battlelore even when I cannot get the physical game to the table. Fantasy Flight Games needs to port more of there board games into apps. I would love to see a port of Descent..Version: 1.0

This game is really excellent.BattleLore: Command is a fabulously designed game. The rule system is easy to pick up but has real depth. There is a good amount of content (I'm probably at 30hrs+ so far having played all paths through). The levels are always challenging but do-able, and there is a skirmish & multiplayer mode once you're done. The graphics and sounds are good. I'd definitely recommend this game..Version: 1.2.1

Fantastic game with real strategyThis game is a perfect fit for the iPad. The tabletop version is fun, but setup takes forever and there’s a lot of bookkeeping — on the iPad all that is done for you. The graphics are top notch and battles feel cinematic. If you haven’t played this before, be aware it’s a “casual” war-game, meaning a battle can take 15-30 minutes, which is lighting fast for war-games. But that offers far more depth and rewards real strategy. This is a great port. The UI can be a little confusing, but it’s not bad at all considering the complexity of the game underlying..Version: 1.0

It's Getting There! This is a fantastic port of an amazing strategy game, but there's one thing that I really hope comes with the next update: saving. At the moment, exiting the game in the middle of a mission means having to start the entire mission over. Having a save feature or an auto-save feature that would allow me to resume missions would mean the difference between a game I can play on the go and a game I have to wait until the end of the day to play. This game is too cool to have to wait to play it :).Version: 1.2

BrilliantBeautiful game, brilliant design and strategy. I am extremely impressed. Deep, but not overly complicated, like many other similar board games ported to ios that I have given up on in this genre. This is what top-notch turn-based strategy looks like, and I highly recommend this..Version: 1.0

Great game for board game loversI love tabletop war games and Fantasy Flight, so I love this app. People complaining about the game taking too long are clearly looking for a different kind of app. For iOS games it takes a long time, but for board game lovers it's what you'd expect. The balance didn't bother me, as the AI isn't the best, so it seems fair that it would have certain advantages. It's funny to me that some people think it's too hard to beat. Again, they're probably not tabletop dice game fans, as this is part of the experience for me. When so many games are dumbed-down these days, I like the potential to lose and refine my strategy. I beat the game the day I got it and continue to play. It's too bad no one plays online, but solo gamers can play both sides or the AI. I'm hoping for more content to be released!.Version: 1.2.2

Work perfect on iPad mini, still unbalancedHaving loved the boardgame, this was a must buy for me. Though I did hesitate a bit at the $10 price tag. The UI is very intuitive and really well done. Great sound, and graphics. The game is very hard though. And the "random" dice rolls still seem to favor the enemy greatly. Plus their lore powers, seem a lot more powerful than the ones you have access too. I've been playing the 3rd mission for the past 3 nights, and still can't beat it. It is definitely a trial by fire, and I'm sure I will come out of it a better player (the digital, and boardgame version) but the process can be quite frustrating. It can be quite annoying when you are constantly rolling blanks, and the enemy uses a lore power and they are rolling 5-7 dice and always hitting at least half their rolls. Still a great game, and maybe after a pit more practice and tactical thinking, I will be able to roll over the AI, but I think that will take some time. I definitely recommend it to any fan of the boardgame. They did makes some changes to the way the command cards and some powers are played, but nothing too drastic..Version: 1.1.0

An enjoyable wargameI’m really enjoying this game so far - just finished the campaign. A couple of ideas to make it even better: Add a new campaign or make the current one longer ;-) Please add an ‘undo’ button for things like moving units or choosing a target unit when playing a lore card. Btw, for those considering getting this game, some people mentioned the dice being skewed - I for one think that they’re most probably blaming the dice for something which is in fact a lack of tactical skill... the dice are just fine..Version: 1.2.2

Needs async multi user supportThis is a great game. But you can't save a game and you can't have have an async online game. If they add these missing features - it would be the best board game adoption done digitally..Version: 1.2.1

Great strategy game but...The strategy is fantastic. The command restriction brings a new approach to what's been done on iOS. My only grip this far? This is 2014 and IOS8 has been out for a while. There is no excuse to have cross device saving. Please implement the feature..Version: 1.0

Excellent game but one crazy bugA great adaptation of the board game, very slick. I haven't noticed the rolling issues experienced by others, I've been on great sprees before and so has the AI. it all seems to balance in the end and is actually random. Update: so they patched the game and it no longer crashes every time after beating a boss. now it crashes every time at the next level selection. ugh, come on guys! Since they did try to fix it and a crash before you have anything to lose is much less frustrating than at the end of a hard fought level, I'm going from 3 stars to 4. Please, please, please fix this game so I can finish it and give it 5 stars. besides the crashes it is SO good!.Version: 1.1.0

Five star gameI'm not normally into board games converted for tablets but I'm enjoying playing this one..Version: 1.2.1

Greatest tactical strategy game on iPadThis is the best tactical skirmish wargame on iPad. It is a port of a board game hence the additional randomness of battles. But it adds to the fun as the game goes on both you and the computer make miraculous and disastrous die rolls. Best analogy is imagine only playing xcom's battles but with fixed units. For those new to war games, this is like chess with dice. Though learning war game strategy may not be to everyone's liking so maybe read the rules to the physical boardgame online before jumping in.Version: 1.2.1

Gold!It doesn't get any better than this. The iPad version is BETTER than the original board game. Kudos to the designers! More please....Version: 1.0

Well worth itBattlelore 2nd edition from FFG is an amazing board game and this iOS replica is just as polished. Graphics are great, action is smooth, I just wish it had an undo button.Version: 1.2.1

Brilliant!A great version of the board game. Look forward to further expansions.Version: 1.2.1
