Hydra 1 (Legacy version) for Negative User Reviews

Loss of exposure controlThis app is ok if you want to shoot a photo with no control over the exposure value of the shot. However for those of us who love to shoot in low light this is a complete dud. Sure it takes a slightly better photo than the stock camera, but there is no way to control the brightness of objects in your shot. The stock camera allows you to select exposure based on touching areas on the photo, but this does not work in Hydra. Much better results from other products. Big spend - no payoff..Version: 1.6.1

Rip offWill not allow access to the app unless you give location and even if you do it does not work. I want my money back and am really disappointed with these developers..Version: 1.1.1

Doesn’t live up to exceptions at all.The principle of combining multiple exposures to get a more detailed single photo is well understood but no matter how much I try on my iPhone XS images come out too blurry to claim they are perceivably better than native camera app. The whole promise of an app was that it would use the natural “shake” of a users hand to accumulate more data where in reality the algorithm is no where good enough especially compared to some other similar systems like the one used by google in their camera app. All on all while in theory it is possible to hit a perfect storm of circumstances where the images are indeed worth the effort most of the time the native camera app with tiny bit of post processing can bring better results. Would love to return this app and get my money back if that were possible..Version: 1.7

Major, we have some problemsIn every test shot, the stock camera app consistently produces better images. Indoors, outdoors, my face, and etc. The purpose of this app is to take (better) pictures I can't with the stock right? This app does not do that..Version: 1.0

IPhone 7 Plus Worse Pictures with Hydra ZoomI wanted use Hydra with the built in 2x zoom of my iPhone 7 Plus. Apparently instead of doing that, hydra removes my zoom (used the 1x zooms lens), takes its photos, then stitches together a higher res image that looks MUCH WORSE than a regular in 2x zoom image with the built in camera. Please guys! Let me use the built in 2x zoom on my phone, along with your tech to make the image sharper. Otherwise this a huge waste of money for an iPhone 7 Plus owner (or iPhone X owner)..Version: 1.4.2

It’s decentWhen doing comparisons to apples default camera there’s not very much difference, I can see a slight colour tint change that’s more accurate which is good an abit of reduced exposure depending on the lighting for a better balance but I just don’t find much difference when u can pretty much get the same results with photo editing apps, and holding the camera completely still is annoying thought it would have the ois in it as my phone has it an also the video recording on video hdr doesn’t use ois either so disappointing..Version: 1.4

Poor appI bought this app based on previous review. In HDR mode, it is impossible to take decent pictures as any little movement results in distortion due to the process involved. This would probably be good for dawn or twilight nature photos of nature but not of everyday subjects; and that too with a tripod/ stand. Very poor camera app for everyday use..Version: 1.2.1

Great app spoiled by no support for iPhone 7 zoomI would give 5 stars if the app could use iPhone 7 zoom.Version: 1.3.6

DisappointingRead some good reviews, decided to buy it, sorry I did. The photo quality just isn’t there. I have ProCamera which does a far better job at HDR and low light pictures as well as offering a lot of extra features. I’ve already deleted this app and would like a refund if I can get one..Version: 1.4.1

AverageI was really excited about this photography app. I test its functionalities and was both happy and disappointed. For all tis functionalities, I tested it against the default camera app. * Happy about the high resolution option. You do get a higher resolution picture. * Zoom is clearer with Hydra than zooming with the default camera app Disappointed: * low-light. I tried with different lighting between almost dark and somewhat light. I could’t tell the difference between Hydra and Camera app (I turned off the flash for the camera app for this test) Not sure * HDR. Maybe the way I was using it was not a good. Maybe certain conditions must be respected to give nice results. But I did not keep one single pictures that came from HDR. It was as if the contours where highly saturated and almost comic book look. I use Hisy as a remote control and it works perfectly with this app. Think I will have to give it a try in a lot more conditions and situations to learn its best use. Unfortunately it does not become my go to app for taking pictures as the default one does a pretty decent job in most situations. Note: I have an iPhone 5s.Version: 1.1

Waste of moneyThe only way this app works if it is perfectly still, no good for children pictures.Version: 1.3

Could be betterThe algorithm could be better. A small shake and some parts of the photo would be blurry....Version: 1.0

Too much noise reductionThe HDR and lowlight modes don’t make much sense on the latest iPhones 11 with iOS 13 as the built in camera app does these much better. The super zoom mode is what I care about and it works well but with some caveats. It will get you clearer higher resolution pictures than digital zoom in the built in camera app. But there’s a lot of noise reduction which results in photos where fabrics look almost smooth, paper looks fake, and the whole scene looks like a bad 3D render from a video game. For most photos this is unacceptable, but I think it could work for architecture photography, or to take pictures of far away signs and lecture slides. Textures and natural things no, smooth or abstract things yes..Version: 1.7

Not a great cameraThe settings it has are very limited, and the ones it does have are not that great. The low-light doesn’t appear any different than the normal camera, and the ‘32mp’ is doubtfully that quality. Zooming in to the max doesn’t appear any different from a normal photo..Version: 1.4.1

Wrong picture locationSomething not right with the picture location. But picture looks very good..Version: 1.0

Great app for my old iphonesIt's great to take pictures with it but i want features like a shortcut feature so I can quickly access it (edit) There was a new update and I kinda dislike it sometimes when I use the high-res or zoom setting it keeps making the image black or it while not load probably.Version: 1.8

Not for meBought this app for my iPhone se as reviews said it improved the camera performance. However I’m not experiencing that performance gain. Trying to apply for a refund but apparently apple is still processing the purchase even though funds deducted. I’m sure with dual lens iPhones gain may be seen more but this just isn’t for me..Version: 1.8.1

TrashIt doesn't store my pictures.Version: 1.0.1

App doesn’t live up to the hype...The stock app does far better at taking photos and it doesn’t crash every time you delete a photo, stick what what you have and save your money! This app is buggy and crashes every time you delete a unwanted photo!.Version: 1.8.2

TerribleAwful app, horribly over complicates taking a picture and useless if you’re taking a picture with anything moving even a millimetre in the background. Waste of money.Version: 1.4.3

Useless taking kids photoI tried it taking photos for my kids . Unless they stand still for secs, it is useless for the high-res mode taking protrait for kids.Version: 1.0

DO NOT UPDATEWorked great until the last update. Now it crashes..Version: 1.1.2

Does not worth a pennyUseless app I never seen a camera that asks access to your location and microphone and if you do not grant it the app does not start. As per others feedbacks the location does not work and I still do not get the reason behind to take a photo I need the microphone. Support does not want to understand your remarks . My opinion, do not spend your money ..Version: 1.0

Use to be good. Now ObsoleteI use to use this application a lot. I found it very useful. Best used on a tripod or a steady hand. The quality of the images were much better than the native camera app. Having said that…. I now have a iPhone12 pro running iOS 14.7 I have taken a number of photos with both this app and the native camera app and under different environments. Needless to say apart from file size, There is no distinguishable differences between the images. In fact, the image taken with Hydra was worse in places because of slight movement of the subject during the image processing stage. Thus this app is somewhat now obsolete. I would very much love this app to have some rework to get it to improve images on the more modern phones. Its a shame as this app was one of my favorites..Version: 1.8.3

Not worth the priceVery disappointed that the image quality is still rather poor. The colours are shifted too much in HDR mode. Noise is still very apparent, especially chroma noise. Cortex gives much cleaner output at nearly half the price..Version: 1.1

No iPhone 11 Pro SupportDecent app but lacking regular updates. I wish I could trigger high resolution mode on the telephoto lens. Still no iPhone 11 wide angle support..Version: 1.6.3

Not particularly usefulI don’t find that the app does measurably better than the native camera app. The idea behind the app is solid if its execution is not that great. Most of the high resolution shots end up blurry. I have used this app for many years across a number of devices and have never realized a substantial improvement in image quality..Version: 1.7.1

HydraI bought this app after reading someone else's review but was very disappointed with it when you take a picture in HDR The colours don't look right also when you take a high-resolution picture there is no difference to the ordinary picture even when you blow the picture up the black and white HDR is ok as there are no colours there if you want a really good HDR app try PRO- HDR it's much cheaper and much better.Version: 1.2.1

HorribleLiterally does nothing the basic camera app can’t do..Version: 1.4

IPhone native app works waaay better...Just used this app. Placed my iPhone 11 on a tripod to create some sample shots. Boy was I disappointed for $5 bucks. Native app takes way better photos when compared side by side. No real adjustments can be made after you shoot. Plus NOOOO TIMER that I can see to allow totally “shake free” images. A timer is critical for HDR photography. I don’t like writing undesirable reviews, but maybe this will actually help the developers to improve this..Version: 1.7.1

All in oneI don't mind paying a higher price to experiment with photo apps. This one did nothing better than the other stacker apps out there. An extra point for rolling a couple of apps into one, but you lost three expecting me to pay twice just to muck about with it on my iPad..Version: 1.4.1

Seems all right so far, but...I live on Vancouver Island, but my photos taken with Hydra tell me that I'm living in Outer Mongolia..Version: 1.0

No Sound Video! The photo parts of the app are wonderful. I used the hdr video for the first time at my son’s christmas music program. I got so excited when i got home to watch it on tv. But when i played it on my phone it had no sound even with my phone volume in full!!! I transferred the file to my mac and it still had no sound!!! So disapponting and frustrating!!! Can the developers explain this please!.Version: 1.4.1

Need manual exposure adjustmentHad this app for 2 years you still haven’t got this basic feature. Would have given you 5 stars..Version: 1.4

Tripod RequiredHaven’t used this app a ton yet, but a tripod is definitely required to see any more detail out of the zoom compared to the built in camera app. Also tried the “high-res” 32mp mode on a tripod but didn’t see any additional detailed compared to a normal 12mp shot. iPhone 11 Pro.Version: 1.6.3

Waste of money!I don't often quite reviews but I actually feel like I've been conned! I've been testing this app and I honestly cannot tell the difference between this app and the stock apple camera. "32mp" looks identical to the single 12mp on my iPhone 7. Really disappointed! Promises so much and delivers so little if anything at all! Even the low light mode actually produces more noise than the stock apple! So you're actually paying to make your photos look worse!.Version: 1.3.2

UnsuitableIt's description is a camera and photo editing app ,it's not , It can't access your photos it will access your camera, microphone and geotag. It's not a photo editor.Version: 1.4.4

Good concept poor executionGood idea but has no features at all you can't even use volume buttons to take pictures, pictures are blurry with to much grain, also has no timer it's very basic and expensive for £3.99 I'm gonna get a refund once, my invoice comes through sadly unless they update it :(.Version: 1.0.1

Only good for really, *really* still subjects.Hydra, as apps go, is designed well enough and does what it says. It combines multiple (up to 60, for the 'hi-res' setting) pictures into a composite image composed of a greater number of pixels than a standard, single iPhone shot. While static subjects - and I mean *completely still* do appear ever so slightly better resolution than the standard, the minute your subject moves more than a couple of times during the multishot process of creating the composite image, the resulting picture is pretty much ruined. Three stars feels a little generous, since the app does basically what it says, but not so amazingly well that I would use it over the standard camera app..Version: 1.0

HDR 👎Like the app but HDR is not good as the subject must be still for a few seconds for it to capture proper pictures. If not a picture is all messed up. I bought this mainly because of the multi frames for HDR, but it takes a few seconds to capture. It’s useless. An update is needed..Version: 1.5.1

Poor qualityOverall it's not really suitable to hand held use on a phone/iPad as it takes too long to take so many exposures- don't bother unless you have a tripod or similar way to fix your phone position. Obviously not good for scenes with any movement and in current state not worth the bother in my opinion. Shame..Version: 1.0

Not worth the botherThe photos are not better than the iPad camera's own HDR setting - brighter but colours are off and picture is washed out, and noisy/grainy.Version: 1.0.2

No difference vs stock appI zoomed all over the pics taken with this app and the stock camera app of the same subject, and there is no difference. Stock app pics actually look cleaner because there is no stitching with the stock app. The pictures this app takes are not any more detailed. This is no google camera for iOS. Waiting for refund..Version: 1.6.2

So so appI compared this to the stock apple camera app and a competitor that starts with C and ends in X (also an app that combines multiple photos). Hydra Pros: - works ok - easy to use interface Cons: - almost no settings at all - HDR video is not stabilized so it is not usable unless you use a gimbal or stabilize it in post production - HDR photos seem like a filter rather than tea HDR.Version: 1.5

Not as good as you think!I can’t even notice the difference with the photos i’ve taken with this app compared to the normal camera! Also you can’t even zoom in while recording a video, but what i’m mostly annoyed about is the fact that you can’t even use the flash when recording a video or taking a picture. Very disappointed with this app considering i bought it based on the good reviews and reading the description. I seriously hope that the developers read this review and make those changes to the app that i’ve discussed!.Version: 1.7

UselessAny slight movement and the results are unusable. Huge interlacing artifacts in hi-res shots, and enourmous black pixels in HDR video. Would love to love this app, but on my 5s it's aweful..Version: 1.0

Stick to the normal cameraMake sure you are aware of the limitations before purchasing..Version: 1.0

Demands access to all of your existing photos in order to take new onesThis app is trash. If you do not grant it access to your photo album — and let it see and do god-knows-what with your pictures that you have taken in other apps — then it won’t even open beyond an error screen. I want my money back..Version: 1.6.2

Good concept but...It almost works but you will need a tripod to get the best out of this app. Each shot takes 40 shots so point and shoot is out of the question unless you have steady robotic hands !.Version: 1.0.1

Can't access from camNo access to front cam , tried photos with native cam app and hydra . Does not make any significant difference ..Version: 1.3.2

DisappointedShould have been really good but similar to inbuilt camera app. HDR is better in HDR Pro.Version: 1.0

RubbishWas ok, now is terrible. The HDR algorithm is way to strong, you need some sliders to control what's happening. Take a look at how Pro HDR X do it, app is out of date for modern phones but still works far better because of the controls..Version: 1.3

Not bad. Still needs some workHi-res is pretty awesome if you have a still scene. Even if not can create some interesting effects. Problem is there are plenty of crashes and I'm running on iPhone6+.Version: 1.0.1

Save your moneyI purchased it because I saw it in the stories and I am highly disappointed. I don’t have an iPhone pro, just an X Low light pics are not any better than regular pics. Then I got “night eyes” which is FREE and ta-da! Crisp pics at low light conditions.Version: 1.7

Not able to use Bluetooth remote to take pics in the app :(When trying to take a photo for work for my outlook profile picture, I needed photo to be high definition so I downloaded this app for the purpose of taking high definition photos, but found that there is no timer option or way to allow my Bluetooth remote to take photos like my normal camera app does..Version: 1.7.1

Poor poor poorThis app is useless if you want to take pictures of anything that might move as it can capture more that 60 frames before it completes the shot. The built in camera is more usable than this and can achieve the same results..Version: 1.2.1

HydraThe pictural are most of the time, flu, it is hard to get a nice picture.Version: 1.3.2

Waste of moneyThis app takes decent pictures if you can hold you phone very still and nothing in the picture moves. If you wobble or something moves the picture is horrible..Version: 1.0

Crashes 90% of the timeIt takes about a minute to take the picture and then crashes just before it finishes. After about 10 tries I finally get it to work and it’s blurry. The blurry ones are probably from movement during the 1 minute marathon pose. Only about one in 3 pictures taken successfully are useful. But those ones that work are fantastic..Version: 1.4.1

Should not have been releasedCrashes a lot and my pictures are said to be taken in Afghanistan! The algorithm doesn't seem ready yet. I demoed it in the house and all the straight lines from the walls were blurry. Waiting for an update or else this would have been a waste of money..Version: 1.0

Blurry picturesSorry don't really like this app. Can't believe I payed so much. Takes over 40 pictures at once and merged them together. Problem is is anything moves in this time it makes it quite blurry. Tried many shots and most much worse than built in camera app..Version: 1.0

Not better than iPhone 6+ cameraI bought this as I was curious to see how it went and it was on special in the App Store. I haven't found it to be any better than the apple camera app so will be deleting it..Version: 1.0

NonsenseAs soon as I purchased this app I took a series of photos switching between Hydra and the standard camera to compare the two, and can see no visual benefit or improvement in the Hydra photos. If anything the standard camera was slightly better. I’d return this app for a refund if I could..Version: 1.4.3

GoodI found the Lo-Light camera mode usefule. It removes the noise nicely and I don't find that with other apps. So far that's what stands out for me and enough reason to keep this app..Version: 1.0.1

Not bad, not greatIt's not a bad app, but there's plenty of others that achieve the same results. The HDR mode works, but no better than other apps out there. Low light mode just removes noise, at the cost of some detail..Version: 1.0

TerribleSlow, buggy and it kept saying unable to take photo. The few photos it did take were blurry. Much better photo apps out there..Version: 1.0.1

Not what I expectedYou need a tripod to make this app work ... Otherwise it's stupid . I'd like to be refunded for this!.Version: 1.2.2

PoorVery poor , want my money back !.Version: 1.6.2

ExpensiveEarly days, so only three star so far, people have said about the zoom function but my iPhone has that, I see no difference. I tried a couple of HDR pics and on my phone they looked the same as the iPhone inbuilt app. I look forward to changing my mind and altering this review. Also £2.29 puts it 3 times too expensive..Version: 1.0

Great but...The app is good and seems to give great results, but... I have to say that I am disappointed by the HDR fonction. I was expecting more control after the picture is taken. We just have 3 choices: black and white, medium and strong! I will have to go back to Pro HDR+ to do real hdr photography with full control. I really hope for an improvement in the future for that fonction..Version: 1.5.1

Not 32mpThe 32mp mode doesn’t do anything. The pictures are only slightly larger in storage usage and the details under zoomed Inspection is almost the same the same as a native image. Devs , please use a panorama type stitch system and use the native 2x optical zoom in new iPhones to stitch together a large 32mp or so image. Not sure if the iOS is limiting the sizes of image but I would assume if these stitched final images are saved they should be at lease twice and big as the native. Also ability to save RAW perhaps ? Thanks..Version: 1.5.1

Promising video function.Only got it for low-light video and it works better than any other app I've tried - though can flicker sometimes. No manual video settings available so can't use with confidence in my professional work..Version: 1.0

BugThis app does not work with my iphone 6+ and stays on the request access screen. If you could fix thisbit would be great.Version: 1.1.1

Does not live up to claimThis app simply does not even vaguely live up to what’s being claimed. Would like money back. After testing it out I found the high res mode is a joke, a cheap parlor trick that does not seem to improve the resolution at all. You can zoom past 100% crop is all. Take a photo using the normal iPhone app, zoom 100%, now take a screenshot of that zoomed photo, go to screenshot and zoom in more...that’s what the hi res mode from this app looks like to me..Version: 1.4.3

DisappointingThis app has no customization sliders. For example, I was under the impression the low light mode would have adjustable exposure sliders, it doesn’t. The HiRes mode doesn’t seem to have any discernible difference from hdr and the IPhone X’s standard camera. I will ask for a refund as I feel a little mislead..Version: 1.4.1

Completely waste of my moneyCompletely wasted my money buying this app, I wish I could get a refund. I tried all the features on my iPhone X , and compared it to the built in camera, there is no difference, in some way, the built in camera is better. The low light, hi-res, non of them is better than the built in Camera. The built camera is way faster and no reduce in quality. The reason I bout it is because Vlogers and some tech writers said it is amazing. Maybe it is amazing for an old iPhone, not for iPhone X. If you have an iPhone X, you shouldn’t buy this app..Version: 1.5

It's okWorks great, but has to take 7 - 45 pictures without moving the camera.Version: 1.0.1

Not for me ☹️I’m sure this is a great app but I got it to take pictures of my kiddos and they will not stay put long enough for all the pics to be taken. Just wasted $5..Version: 1.6.2

Very poor - requires location to workThe app won't open unless you allow it access your location. I can't review its photo functionality because I can't open the app. I care more about privacy than metadata, and as a result I can't use an app that I have paid for. Can't believe I paid money for this. It should have been specified in the app description. Very poor decision indeed..Version: 1.0

Great app but still broken on iOS 14I’m using an iPhone X currently and while I’m soon upgrading to the 12 Pro, this app just doesn’t even take photos when I need it to. The HDR mode is horrendous too (strong is WAY too sharp on strong but too dull in ideal HDR scenarios) but the other features like Low Light, Zoom, and Hi-Res are absolutely the real deals regarding getting the most out of the app. The HDR capture on the standard camera app is even better than the HDR on this app because the HDR is just an HDR image overlapped onto an SDR set from what I can see, giving a super oversaturation..Version: 1.8.1

I want a refund!I want a refund! Its nice but I don't like it. How can I refund?.Version: 1.2.2

Very annoyedHI Keeps crashing what a waste of money.Version: 1.1.2

UselessThe picture from this app is not brilliant as it said. And the location is always wrong. I don't like it.Version: 1.0.1

Disappointing...Bought it after rave review about its pro quality ... but I find it very disappointing so far. There's no control over how the HDR effect is applied, so - in spite of taking 20-30 exposures per image - the results are clumsy and poor compared with HDR images from the Pro HDR app (which only takes two exposures). Haven't tried it on video yet ....Version: 1.0.2

Used to be my goto photo appAny time I needed to take an image that needed to be a quality picture, this was my first goto app for that. Since iOS 9 though, it's never worked and just crashes. Please developers if you're still looking after this app, fix your bugs or let us know it's been abandoned so I can remove it..Version: 1.1.2

Waste of moneyNot worth the money. The difference between photos is negligible..Version: 1.5.1
