Darkroom: Photo & Video Editor for Negative User Reviews

Zero STAR!We ran away from Adobe and other usual suspects because of their milking $$ model = subscription! But, I guess you can run but you can’t hide! I gave this 5 well-deserved stars for many reasons and paid for each and every extras it gave us just to be fair to developers and their hard work! But, with the exception of true services, such as Apple Music, Microsoft Office 365, Netflix and other streaming services, I see absolutely no reason to pay for each and every app like these! Remember 1Password for so long they kept saying they would always keep both subscription model and 1-time pay side by side?!! Yup, they fooled us and many many other developers learned from them and drag us to this nonsense subscription model! A company like Netflix spending millions of dollars licensing or producing contents charge $10 / $20 per months, Apple Music $10 and etc ... I fail to see why I should pay to subscribe for something as easy as video / pic editors when there are hundreds and hundreds of similar apps for FREE or 1-time payout!! Ongoing development - my nose!!.Version: 4.6

Used to be goodDarkroom has been crashing frequently for many months, and at this point it is practically unusable. I am running the latest OS on a XR, which the app says it supports. This includes update 6.6.6..Version: 6.6.6

Great Integration, Limited Dynamic RangeI really love the way they have integrated Darkroom with the native Photos app, so you don’t have to go to the extra step of importing from and exporting to the Camera Roll. However, when I tried to edit photos that were previously edited with Lightroom, I couldn’t come close to matching the results and was. very disappointed. The problem was especially evident in photos that have deep shadows. It is just impossible to bring out the shadows the way you can with Lightroom. The brilliance, highlights and shadows sliders don’t have enough dynamic range to tune the image. If the developers can fix this limitation, it will be a winner. The developer has responded that they are working on improving these adjustments in a future release. I will be very interested in using the app once they do as it should make if five stars..Version: 5.3.1

Very MisleadingTo be clear, downloading the app is free. “Trying” is it free. But you can’t export anything unless you pay for the app so I feel it’s very misleading to advertise that it’s free. The developer should clearly state upfront that if you actually want to use the app - as in make edits and download the final image - that the user has to pay. I understand the premise of try before you buy but that’s wasn’t clear from what I read. I also find it odd that no matter what edits you make, even simple edits, you still can’t export the image. Most freemium apps allow some free options. That said, the app seems to have a lot of nice editing features. From a usability standpoint, sliders that have a generous margin to snap back to 0 is nice. My suggestion to the developer is to rewrite the description so it’s very clear that the app is not free..Version: 4.2.1

My go to “premium” photo editing app, ruined by greed.I’ve been using this app for my photos since basically day one. I outright purchased it as a premium app, then a few years back, they decided to backpedal on that exchange and decided to do what every other app dev is doing; turning their once premium one, time purchase app into a subscription model. It was nice of them to give us “legacy users” 2 years of free updates, and I didn’t initially mind the masks mode being unusable without subscribing. But the new color grading mode is now a big red button cluttering up the UI begging, no, demanding that we subscribe finally. I don’t even need this feature, it’s absurd that we don’t have the option to hide it if we don’t need it instead of having our workflow smudged by a constant reminder. I asked if they had a hidden feature to hide this button, and they simply said no. So here’s a 1 star review for catching up to your greed. The photo is still pretty great bedsides 🙄.Version: 6.3.1

RidiculousI cant even save my photos now without paying? bye!.Version: 4.6.5

MehExpensive and you seem to have a horrible customer service attitude from what I’ve heard won’t be recommending this “ app “.Version: 4.0.1

Good app with greater potential.I loving the design if this app. It integrates superbly with the iPad photos and makes working with images a streamlined process. The tools on offer are the expected and well implemented with a couple of more advanced tools available for a purchase. This app is still missing some key items to make it an app I can rely on though. Absolutely required is a repair tool for getting rid of those dust spots, random bird in the sky etc. Clarity and noise reduction tools are also much required. The addition of these 3 tools would make this a 5 star app for me. Local adjustments would be the icing on the cake but even without that, adding the tools identified above would make this a serious contender on the iPad..Version: 4.0.2

Good but...Really looking for an app for culling my Photos library on my mac. I use Lightroom for culling photoshoots and love that I can use those same flag/reject options in Darkroom for culling my iphone photos. However... Photos library allows me to filter just videos or just photos, and that is a feature that is lacking in Darkroom. When culling, I want to be able to do all photos or all videos, not just raw photos OR live photos OR portrait photos. Definitely an area of opportunity. Would also love to have a less expensive option to use the app for just culling. I have no intention of using it for editing and can't see spending that kind of money for just culling. I could see this being very helpful for culling but overall, it just doesn't quite meet the mark for me..Version: 6.3.9

Too many Error BugsThis app used to work seamlessly before the monthly subscription fees were implemented. It’s been laggy and shows a lot of errors since the new batch of updates..Version: 4.7.3

New features forced to use Darkroom+I used to think this app was amazing because of the lack of subscription model and simplistic raw editing capabilities. I actually purchased this app in 2018 when it was a one time payment. The devs had initially allowed those users to gain access to premium features without having to subscribe. It now seems that a subscription is needed to access all new features. At this point it just makes more sense to move back to Lightroom. The performance of this app generally is pretty slow compared to LR, as it really doesn’t like to access fuji raw files from the xt-1. The app just crashes now — even snapseed does a better job. After years of requesting better whitebalance control - it still hasn’t come. It simply doesn’t make sense to stick around if these features are paywalled behind an obviously bloated app..Version: 6.3.1

Now completely unusable stormy needsThis app just crashes whenever you try to add a subject mask which is the only reason I use it and decided to buy a licence for it. No response from the developer when I emailed either! Have tried removing the app cleaning the original install and then re-stalling but problem persists. Have had to reluctantly start using Lightroom again until this has been rectified but don’t know if I’ll switch back if this is indicative of the future experience to expect from this APP/developer..Version: 6.7.6

Broken. Just as another recent poster says, bad landscape vs portraitFor some reason, the app is not picking up the orientation on the photo taken on my iPhone 12. It rotates them 90 degrees clockwise when it shouldn’t. Then, to edit them, I turn the iPad Pro or iPhone sideways (the error is happening consistently on either device). Sometimes when switching the photo is distorted, but this whole situation really makes me worry about what is happing to the base image stored, and about the orientation of exports. in any case it’s a serious bug, and has caused me to exercise some of the other photo apps. I’ll be checking back for the fix to this, and will definitely switch back and update my rating to a 5 star when you get it straightened out. Do love the app. One big feature request—choice of sort method of “My filters” or even any and all filters, either by alphabetic sorting, or frequency of use, or recency of use..Version: 5.2.1

Ok but has flawsThe app has some really good features, could do with having gradient filters, one thing I have noticed with editing raw files is the app crashes ALOT and would be nice to be more stable, after paying for all the features as well, does not feel value for money for app that has been out for a while. I’m using an iPad Pro as well so quite disappointed in the performance of the app it’s self.Version: 4.3.7

Price is just laughableDon’t know what planet these people are currently residing, but they need to get their heads back to earth an reconsider their pricing. There are completely free apps that provide those dinky little sliders Darkroom does and more besides. Edit: Thanks for your reply, though you’re missing the point. Point is, I would have bought YOUR app if you weren’t asking such a ridiculous price for it..Version: 5.3.2

No dehaze?Very good application but, I don’t understand why there’s no dehaze..Version: 6.3.4

Very buggy and unsupported. There's no way to get support if you need it. Crashes regularly. Grinds to a halt when opening after taking multiple photos. (14 pro max ios 16 and 17) Glitches when editing multiple photos one after the other. Sometimes if you delete a photo, and then swipe left or right, it will sometimes present you with the deleted photo again and you have to swipe the opposite way to get rid of it again, and sometimes the deleted photo will persist and the cache has to be emptied and phone restart to fix it. Darkroom real problems with photos taken using Halide's coverage setting. These photos seem to make darkroom crash regularly. There's more, but they aren't interested. Cancelled my subscription. Too buggy for the price..Version: 6.6

Great App but changing to subscription based. Deleted AppOne of the very few Apps that I use to edit my Photos bu t now changing to subscription based. Sad to see the producers of this app have joined the money grab. Guess it will be another app I have to delete. Deleted the app.Version: 5.2.3

Amazing app but only available for rent/subscription.Fantastic app for effects and treatments on photos and video. Unfortunately they have removed the purchase outright option..Version: 6.3.2

It's not free like the category suggestsEven in the official website the cost of the app is pretty hidden..Version: 6.4.1

Dammit I like this app...butI’ve been using many other apps and this one really has to be the slickest and fastest way to edit photos on the iPad. The left thumbnail and right side adjustments in freaking genius! So natural to work though Lott’s of photos, favourite the ones I want and edit on the fly! Love it! But.. no brush edits in a photo app for 2018 is a little sub par, almost every photo has an element of brush edits (day lighten the face for instance or darken a part of the photo not a whole vignette) and to have that missing when taking on other established apps is disappointing. I saw that it’s on their road map and the day that drops I truly believe this will by my go to app!.Version: 4.0.1

Subscription ripoff is killing IOSSubscription ripoff OR Incredibly overpriced one time fee. This subscription model will ultimately kill Apple and its App Store. Only 5 bucks better than iOS camera editor. DELETE.Version: 6.3.1

Compatible with iPadWell, it opens, but it feels like I'm working on an original iPhone screen. I'd much rather edit on a proper big screen interface, so I guess it's back to Lightroom on the Mac. Update: apologies to the devs for commenting on an old version. Will update when I can afford a better ipad..Version: 3.8.1

Not quite there, yetAt a similar monthly subscription to Lightroom, it is lacking too many features, such as selective editing/masking. Video editing aside, the free version of Lr has all the functionality of the paid version of darkroom. I’d love for more advanced tools to be implemented to have a competitor to Adobe Lr..Version: 5.8

Nice simple editor with issues with RAW processing.Downloaded this app after a recommendation and to give it a try as a replacement for Snapseed (which doesn’t read the RAW files from my Fuji X100T). After accidentally buying all the features (had my finger on the fingerprint scanner as I happened to click on the purchase option 😅) I was set on making it my main editor on my iPad and iPhone. Unfortunately even though the app recognises the photographs as Raw files and gives all the usual editing parameters RAW photographs don’t show the true colour temperature (Kelvin) and tint values instead of just showing as a standard -100 to 100 scale. Exposure and the other options also seem much more limited in range than they should be. Does the app not have full access to the RAW data? Other than that its a nice simple way to edit with a nice set of filters. I also like how easy it is to batch edit, seeing all your photographs in a grid which you can scroll through rather than opening up files individually as you would in something like Snapseed. Would review higher if the issues with the Raw editor are resolved or fully explained..Version: 4.0.2

Cant edit Raw photosI’m not able to edit my raw photos. When I make any chances photos disappear and I’m left with a black screen. Works with JPEG..Version: 5.7.1

Cost 1.29. Then pay moreSo I paid 1.29 for this... just to find out I'd need to drop another 6$ just to use the curves feature..Version: 3.0

So forget Darkroom legacy customers?I remember when Darkroom was barely starting out, I paid for it and appreciated that they kept their promise in letting us “legacy members” still use the basic features of the program. Today I accidentally chose using a mask and went back and now I can’t even export the images I edited with their basic features. Now they’re pushing I subscribe or buy again “forever”. But what is forever? A few years back I thought my purchase was so I could edit on it “forever”, what’s going to make me believe $75 will let me edit on it forever this time? I already subscribe to Adobe so I guess I’m going back to that. Companies need to understand we can’t subscribe to them forever. A solid price to use it forever and keeping it that way would help..Version: 6.0.2

Issues with export coloursIt's a great app and I love being able to work with colours and results in all are stunning. However upon export in any format in any possible way of saving the photos they suddenly gain a nasty contrast bump and shadow are desaturated! They go from nice to disgusting and I suspect apple is reading some colour profile in the photos app. I've taken to importing the edited photo into snap seed making a 1point brightness bump and exporting it as this seems to make it look once more like it does in app! Someone needs to look at this issue as it's so subtle but makes such a huge difference that I cannot use or recommend this app..Version: 4.1.3

Great integraation. Still waiting on a few improvements.I've been a Darkroom user since the early days. It has really come along way and is an incredible tool in its current iteration! I think a ton of users will be stoked on it just the way it is. I am a working professional a still need to see a few improvements to really be able to embrace it. 1. It still tends to be buggy. 2. On my Mac the displayed image while editing is a bit blurry. When you zoom in the image clears up....but their default editing image is not sharp. 3. The presets are almost all a bit too extreme for actual work...(I have to back them down to about 50% for them to become usable.) It would be nice to see some more subtle presets. 4. The Smart Masks are great! But we need to be able to use them on non-portrait and ProRaw images. My main overall issue, is that I know bringing an image into Darkroom is going to equate to a bit of work to get my final edit the way I want. I know that I can go into Lightroom and have what I want in a few clicks...I can't say the same for Darkroom. I love Darkroom. I love what they're doing. and I really feel like they are close to something revolutionary....and theyre getting closer and closer. I'm rooting for Darkroom. I'm a big fan. Download it!!.Version: 6.3.4

Great on iOS, terrible on MacHaving loved Darkroom on my iPad, I was eager to try it out on Mac. I was surprised at the sheer amount of bugs, crashes, and general performance issues. I edited 300 wedding photos and barely made it through due to the performance. Edits don't show after having done them, huge delay when selecting multiple images, and multiple crashes. Hope they improve it over time cause at this point I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Still awesome on iOS though..Version: 6.0.6

Too expensive for what you get. Disappointed.I thought I’d give the trial a go, but found that there seemed to be quite a bit missing. Masks are limited with no means to manually tweak some of the erroneous foreground/background edges as there’s no way to paint missing parts of a mask or push/smudge parts of a portrait or depth mask that is incorrect. Also there’s no way to invert a radial mask. The website claims to be able to blur background in a portrait photo, but I was unable to find any blur function no matter how hard I tried on both iPhone and iPad. There’s some nice ui elements, but it feels like ‘half’ an app. There’s no effect like bokeh that you can mask in etc. even the presets aren’t affected by masks. I can’t justify the cost. I’d pay about ¼ the price as I could only see myself using it casually. Snapseed does so much more and has a hidden mask mode which you can apply on every single image adjusting function, filter, and effect, so that you can blend or paint that adjustment in. All those masks are adjustable from a history of operations you’ve made. Snapseed is free, so I would expect Darkroom to offer more flexibility. Darkroom does offer video processing, but for those working with photos, it seems to add to the price substantially..Version: 6.4.2

TOO MANY BUGSI have subscribed darkroom yearly, and recently found many bugs: 1. when clicking on an edited photo, it takes 3 seconds to show from original to edited version, sometimes it just stays at original version, i have to view other photos first to see this photo. 2. sometimes when i open photo in library, it jumps to the 'photo editing' interface without the actual photo being there, just blank, does not open at all. These are two major bugs i would like to report, i love the filters in this app but if i cannot get a STABLE app, i would rather give it up. thank you..Version: 6.0.6

I’d pay for it and love it to bits- if it wasn’t buggyEverything is buggy, I work with sony raw, photos forever say ‘photo loading’, the edits sometimes crash without telling you, leaving you waiting for them to appear. This is all fixed by restarting the app but to get through 100 photos now needs 5 restarts of the app. May be something to do with my 64gb iPad Pro, but I haven’t had issues with other raw photo editors. I love the app, interface and features but I just can’t work like this..Version: 5.4

No Fuji loveNice app but cannot read Fuji RAF files, such a shame...Version: 6.0.4

RAW image processing isn’t usable compared to othersThis app has the potential of being great. It has the library support and copying edits across many pictures by pasting. Overall the feature set is ok , but I noticed the biggest problem compared to other apps for RAW image processing. This app shows the RAW image file with muted colors and a white haze across the image. Adjustments that O make aren’t the same adjustments as in Lightroom or Affinity Photo, or even After Light 2. Is it the RAW image processing or the was it show the image? Ive tried many images back and forth with the other apps, and I cant get a desirable edit on Darkroom the way I get it on Lightroom or Affinity Photo. I cant get that crisp vibrant photo I want. The end result looks muted, off color, and not clear, with noise. I like the potential for the app, but it needs to update its RAW image processing algorithm to make it useable and on par with the other apps..Version: 4.1.10

CATASTROPHIQUEBonne application mais énormément de bug DOMMAGE.Version: 6.6.6

Lacking tutorials for such steep priceI am cool to spend $120 on a photo editing app. However, I would like to know if it is worth it. Since the non paid app cannot save, I don’t know why the dev wouldn’t just open the entire app. Offer newbies step by step guides on using the app to enhance different types of pictures. Now I have to search on YT to see if there r tutorials on this. Like other have said, can’t devs learn from Procreate pricing?.Version: 6.0.6

My expectations were a lot higher ☹️It barely has any effects like I edited this photo and I couldn't even tell the difference from the original. I'm not being rude or critical but in my strong opinion, literally, add more stuff. If u still don't believe me, try the app and then trust me, unless they created add more in the last minute, you'll regret getting the app. Thx 😕.Version: 5.3.1

Try before you buyFirst of all I must say that Darkroom is a really good photo app. It does its job really well working across all Apple platforms, this being my main deciding factor, having tried many others before this point. The same however, cannot be said for video processing. Its capabilities are limited to basic functions, to do any editing or sequencing you will need to purchase another app, LumaVision, which adds about 30% to the overall purchase price. However, as good as an app LumaVision may be, it does not work across all Apple platforms. I have a MacBook Pro Touch and the app store states it will not work on it. If it is offered, ALWAYS try before you buy and test it thoroughly, Caveat Emptor..Version: 6.0.9

You broke itBeen using this app for a while on my iPad mini. Worked great & I love it. But in the last 2 weeks, as soon as I open a photo, it says “loading image” in the bottom right & then the screen goes black & it crashes. Further, in the odd chance that the app doesn’t crash, the photo loads with a fade but is not exported with the same fade so there’s no ability to actually know what your edits look like until you export them, which is extremely frustrating. I’m trying to go back to a version that worked for me but can’t seem to figure that out either. It really shouldn’t be this difficult & frustrating to edit some photos..Version: 4.5.7

OverpricedJust when you thought a developer couldn’t get any greedier. I was ready to drop 60-70$ to purchase forever...to my surprise they jacked up the price to 105$... I don’t see how you can justify the price increase. There are still so many tools missing. Will definitely never buy this app. Stick to the free version and editing everything else on other apps..Version: 4.7.5

Another subscription playThose of us who bought Darkroom for about $20 are now asked to subscribe for $50 year. To buy is $99. Guy, we already bought Darkroom. Why should we give you 5x morr to finance your expensive lifestyle or trust you not to retire Darkroom? Good software with iPhone RAW. Pretty awful with DSLR images. For camera images, RAW Power is better, but interface of Darkroom is much better in iPhone. iPad is a tie..Version: 6.5.2

So over itIf you’re only gonna offer a couple of filters for free and then try to sell the rest of it, why make the app “for free”?.Version: 4.1.5

Nothing many other apps don’t doLike the title says. Nothing I have seen in this that I haven’t be able to do with many other free apps out there. These days too many apps try to get you to do an overpriced monthly subscription and honestly on a professional level this is clearly an over priced app. Compared to many apps similar to this one, in the past you would see 2.99- 10.99 one time purchase with ongoing updates. No offence to those who developed it but clearly, monthly based subscription, might as well get the adobe software that are far way better than this..Version: 4.7.3

Bait and Switch PricingApp looks great with good controls and fast to use. Image quality looks very good as well. Before downloading I saw in the in-app purchases description on App Store that it was $9.99 US to unlock everything! I was ready to jump on it. That’s an awesome price for an app of this caliber. However once open, it’s revealed that it’s actually $50, (or subscribe which is a business model I don’t support). I’m kind of upset at the false advertising. I want to support the devs and get a great iPhone editing app, but going to pass on this one. Affinity Photo, a full desktop class app, is more than 50% less, (and feature rich Procreate is a fraction of the price)! Granted they are iPad apps, but just have to bounce images to the iPad for editing. Comparing features and usability of Affinity Photo vs. Darkroom I’m disappointed with the ratio of features to asking price here... Especially after the bait and switch..Version: 4.5.4

Consistently crashing on meEither trying to crop photos, browse through photos, open, save; it crashes over and over again making it unusable for even the simplest editing. I’m even using a newer gen ipad.Version: 6.0.6

Bring legacy upgrades backLegacy upgrades appear in the iTunes purchase, however not available when attempting to upgrade the legacy version to Darkroom +. As a person who’s sick of software developers charging a subscription to already established users, I refuse to go that route. Photomator did the honourable thing and upgraded us, all legacy users with no exception for FREE. It’s time you step up, or at least reactivate the legacy upgrades, and honour existing legacy users because there is no way I will be drawn into another pricey subscription. One star.Version: 6.7.2

I am tired of paid software.Every piece of software is asking for money. Only 3.99 a month. I am up to 300 dollars for just a few bucks a month. I just want to buy an application. You have to keep the machine moving. Ever more profits. This model is not for poor people. Too many hidden costs. I just wanted to flag a photo like I could do in Lightroom 1, Lightroom 2, and then in Lightroom 4. Then they went to that model. <Sigh> I feel like I paid for this app and then when I go to use it. I gotta pay a subscription. You aren't getting my money. If I am going to pay for something, it would probably have a name like Adobe and come with more services and have extensions. It looked nice until I couldn't flag a photo. How simple is that. Don't put something in the menu and then extort people's money. It's just a couple of cents a day, a coffee a month. 😖🤮.Version: 5.5

Absolute rubbish? This isn’t a video editor at all. There’s no controls for the video apart from pause? How are you supposed to colour grade if you can’t scrub? You literally have to wait for it to go around again? Ridiculous. It’s more like a BETA test app. Buggy interface, unintuitive - just $79 - wow. There’s also no DEHAZE…👎🏻.Version: 5.8.3

$10 app with a $70 price tagI don’t know where all these developers get off charging full pc editing software prices for an app with 1/10th the features and/or use greedy Adobe style subscriptions. Everything in this app are available in free/cheaper apps that are comparable quality. What a waste..Version: 4.7.1

A beautiful app marred by bugsI used to rely a lot on Darkroom for my RAW editing but have lately needed to abandon it. Newer versions of the app have been plagued by issues with randomly crashing, not being able to switch between RAW and JPEG photos taken in its partner app Halide, or not correctly reflecting changes made in the viewfinder. This was acceptable considering the app's base functions are free, but lately photos I edit and export now look nothing like what I see in the app. At this stage I had to turn to Lightroom to actually be able to work on my photos. I can't recommend people use Darkroom for their work until these reliability issues are addressed by the developers..Version: 4.0.1

App crashes frequently and no longer integrated in Apple Camera EditThe app crashes multiple times and now charges for subscription… It’s iPhone integration has also been removed in the Dec 2022 update. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼.Version: 6.3.1

Paid subscription now?So for us who previously paid for the app now you decide to move us to a monthly paid subscription on top of what we paid? Not too sure I agree with that, even with the app being one of the best out there..Version: 4.5.7

Bait-and-switch app..Curves and Color Tools are locked. I don't appreciate it when developers lie about app specifications. It's FALSE ADVERTISING. Apple should be more strict about this. Update: thanks for updating the description and changing app tag to "in-app purchases".Version: 3.0

Changed to Subscription modelNo way am I moving to a subscription model. If I did it would be ADOBE suite & Cloud not Darkroom. They’re a rip off. There are plenty of good for purchase apps. Happy to pay but never subscription. Any serious work I do will be on my PC where i can access Lightroom CC and other non subscription programs..Version: 5.2.2

I can't keep paying for this softwareA year after reporting issues / bugs they are still in the software. In what other software that dispalys a grid of images can't you use left / right keys to navigate the images? It's like these guys do ZERO usability testing. Time to find something else..Version: 6.7.2

DisappointingFirstly, I love the interface, controls and Halide integration that this app offers. However, it is plagued by crashes and bugs. For example, switching between RAW and JPG files rarely works without exiting the app and trying again. A more major issue is the weird effect this app can have when exporting RAW photo edits, you can get a very nice image in the app, and for some reason on export it suddenly looks like you've applied every filter at once. This isn't just the Photos app not supporting RAW, Halide shows the same results when viewing in RAW. Hope this gets fixed as I don't think there's a better alternative. Certainly not considering purchasing the add-ons until this is fixed..Version: 4.0.2

Unimpressive, simplistic, devoid of any original features.. Awful, useless preset filtersSave your money. Snapseed and RAW Power are free and infinitely more powerful, original and useful for creative editing than this simplistic, highly limited and ultimately pretty pointless and useless app. Oh yes, and... The preset filters are almost hilariously woeful and quite useless for any practical purposes. So many photo apps out there, many free, but this one is a waste of your time and money. Seriously! I would ask for a refund, but we all know that is never going to happen.... Ho hum. Five stars? Not in this universe..Version: 4.2.1

Overall not badCheaper than Lightroom, and has some cool features. Downside is it crashes often, and is missing some common sense options.Version: 6.3.4

2023 - BuggyHas awesome features, missing some export functions and erase functions BUT the most annoying, editing raw photos stored on an SSD makes it incredibly buggy. This is where we are going to edit from. Example - I change the ‘Highlights’ and the image goes blurry until I exit and go back in. This is not the only issue. I am currently trying other apps now. This has HEAPS of potential though..Version: 6.3.12

Reading the reviews...I’ve just downloaded this to try it out. But let me say after reading the responses by the developers to some of the reviews I’m hesitant to put money towards the app. My question, why come across as offensive and upset whenever anyone gives you less than all stars and makes suggestions? Apple, how can you continually highlight this app when you see some of the responses by the developers? You continually suggest you aren’t a pro app, only a team of two etc. That’s fine, then I would suggest making the price less, or even free, until it’s fully ready and it might help you build a loyal following. Most would consider that price point to have a fully polished app ready to work in every way. Just don’t be offended when people who really care make suggestions. By the way I rarely review, this just really caught me by surprise. Not a good way to build loyalty with your brand. Accept the criticism and use it to get better....Version: 4.1.7

Disappointed with their directionI purchased this app years ago and found the features and UI easy to use- was a great tool to process raw images when I didn’t have a computer. They updated their app and gifted early adopters with updates. Makes sense considering I paid for the app. Opened it up today to find a message stating that I can no longer use the app unless I pay again. This is absolutely absurd. To think a developer would imagine that this is a good idea is ridiculous. Asking supporters to buy an app they already paid for a second time to continue to use it is pathetic. Unless they re-reverse their decision, I can’t recommend anyone giving these people your money- you never know when they’ll backtrack and ask for more..Version: 6.0.6

Scam Subscription....Supported this app for a long time and purchased their packs.... now they want us to pay a subscription???? Good bye darkroom... another bloated apple product..Version: 4.5.6

How much is subscriptionHow much is subscription.Version: 6.6.6

Does not work for .NEF RAW filesIt would be helpfull if the developer included a list of the the type of RAW files the app does not recognise. I purchased the full bundgle thinking that from the reviews it would be a suitable app. I contacted the developer about htis issue but never heard back..Version: 6.4.1

About the costAlways enjoyed using Darkroom over other iOS photo processing apps and finally, finally masks have been added to the toolkit to make version 6 a complete app, but that one time price of USD75 — for those of us that don’t like renting our software — is pretty steep and what hurts more is that a purchase on the Australian App Store costs just under AUD120, whereas my currency converter tells me an equivalent price should be around AUD100. Edit: the developers reached out after I wrote the above review to tell me that Apple is the one that sets the foreign pricing based on the USD price of the app. Understood, bit doesn’t change the fact that the price in AUD costs way more than full featured pro-level desktop software like Serif’s Affinity Photo. Some people will see the value in Darkroom 6. I don’t..Version: 6.0

Room for improvement... *bugs galore*This a solid app and does a great job. But it does lack a few things and other elements that are there need refining. All in all it worth the price... just. But Polarr for the same money has portrait editing, mesh warps, selection tools and overlays to mention a few. My main reason for sticking with Darkroom over Polarr is the integration with Halide. *edit* Still love this app and choose it over everything else I’ve used including Lightroom, however over the last few months I’ve noticed some horrible bugs in cropping etc. Needs a fix fast or I’ll have to say goodbye..Version: 6.0.3

Features are good but very buggyFeature wise and UI this is 5 star. Amazing. However, if you use this regularly you will deal with bugs often. Now it seems to fail loading photos until it is uninstalled and reinstalled. Any app that needs to be repeatedly reinstalled gets a 1-star..Version: 4.6.5
