Workouts++ for Negative User Reviews

Seems great until you use itThe iPhone app looks top notch and I love the extreme level of customization! However, trying to use it on the Apple Watch is useless, as the data during an exercise never updates or tracks anything, so you’re left with a generic workout with only a duration and nothing else. In the iPhone app, it will show that you did the workout, but the health data is all blank there too. This is especially odd since I enabled all possible data in the Health app for this, but it simply doesn’t work..Version: 2.0.3

Good, but...No luck with the in-app email link so trying again here. Segment data is lost - example: cross training. There is some data of very limited utility in the stats page. Calories per minute is useless. I’d rather see segment (round) summary info. Round 1, total time, total calories, avg heart rate....round 2, etc. User defined stats would be perfect..Version: 2.1.1

Buggy, but promising featuresI actually find the podcast player on the watch to work rather well and it’s incredibly useful. Navigating the list of podcasts on the phone is super buggy. It seems like a simple list so I’m not sure why it’s so hard to use. Swiping to delete doesn’t work 90% of the time. While scrolling up and down the list jumps back to where you were. I don’t understand how it shipped like this, but the watch app is so good that I am super grateful. I wish the overall design were a little more pleasing to look at, but if it weren’t so buggy to scroll the podcast list I would be happy to pay for this app. (Heck I still would in its current state)..Version: 2.0.3

No HR displayed after update to ios13I have loved this app for a long time but after upgrading to ios13 and then 13.1, the app on the Apple Watch no longer is displaying the heart rate. This is a major bug and needs an fix quickly! I tried contacting the developer through the app but no response. I will change my rating once it is fixed and working because basically in its current state it is of no use..Version: 2.2.1

GPS data doesn’t transfer from watchI have a Series 3 watch with LTE. I run without a phone. I alternate between the watch app and this one. 95% of the time the Apple Watch sends over gps data to map. Workout does it like 75% if the time. In fact, lately the apple app works all the time after some initial issues. I’ve had the watch three months. I would use one one day and the other on the next day and Apple works, workout does not. Just not consistent and reliable to use..Version: 2.1

Layout on Apple Watch is great, but....I really want to love this app. The Apple Watch layout is well designed and thoroughly flexible. For each type of workout you can see just the data you want, arranged how you like it. I’ve used it three times. The first time, while cycling, I noticed the app displayed only the elapsed time, not the distance, speed or anything else. I wrote the developer who suggested I rescind and regrant data permissions. That seemed to work. The second time I used the app was for another cycling workout. But, the workout got posted twice to Health. Same start time. Same distance. Different elapsed times. I wrote the developer but didn’t receive a reply. The third time was for a walk workout. The app only mapped half of my route. It was as if I left home but never retuned. I wrote the developer but didn’t get a reply. Because I like the looks of this app so much I will try it now and then to see if the data bugs have been squashed..Version: 2.0.1

Fantastic app with a fatal flawI don’t know if the latest update has fixed the problem I describe below. I am now bothered my an even worst problem. My most important use for this app would be the hiking workout. Unbelievably the app does not display distance traveled. I do want to be able to use this app but it sure does not seem that making it great (good) is a priority to the developer. As much as I love this app I have had to stop using it. It sometimes fails to display (record?) route data. A deal killer for me. I stand by my review below if only ... One of my favorite apps just got amazingly better. So happy that elevation is an option. And the data display on the phone is fantastic. After the last update it's even better. I wish I could give it 6 stars. With elevation as a display option and the ability to export the gps data as a gpx file it is great for hiking/backpacking. . One feature request. On outdoor walk/run after completing the activity display total elevation gain (as Apple's app does). This is way to good to be a free app..Version: 2.1.1

Good idea but buggyI like what it does but there are lots of things wrong with it. In my case for some reason the first time I used it it gave me the distance in miles and not kilometres, despite the watch settings. Then the sliders are almost impossible to adjust precisely: you put your finger on to move them and the slider jumps all over the place. Finally, despite setting notifications for distance/heart rates etc none of them worked. I did write to support about this but no reply was forthcoming so I’ve gone back to the Apple app. Shame..Version: 2.2.2

Still BrokenLatest update did nothing to resolve the issue that BPM is not displaying. My two attempts to contact the owner on this remain unanswered. Is frustrating as there’s no alternative and it was a 5 star app before the update to latest devices and operating systems seem to have broken it..Version: 2.2.2

Love, but there’s a new bugI may need to find a new app. This one has always been super easy to track workouts and use it with my watch. It would be 5 stars, however something happened recently and my heart rate no longer appears on my watch during a workout. Not sure why. The HR is working and when I look at the app after the workout it shows me the graph. Please fix!!.Version: 2.2.1

Buggy and doesn’t always workMy first workout I tried was an outdoor walk. After what I knew was about half a mile, it still hadn’t registered my distance or heart rate even after I granted it all those permissions. Restarted my watch (which takes about 5 min on Series 1) and the walk I started registered after that. Tried to use it the next day and ran into the same problem I first had with the app. After these three uses, not sure it’s worth my time..Version: 2.0.3

Just doesn't workI've tried this app twice because I like the developer, but it's absolutely failed booty times. The first time, after finishing a workout and saving the data, it just disappeared into the ether. Needless to say I was pretty mad so I deleted it right then. Once the new update came out I decided to try it again. The very first outing I checked my watch half way through a 5k and it's literally only tracking the duration! All the permissions were on, including location. It just fell today on it's face. Maybe I'll try it again in a at some point, but I doubt it..Version: 2.0.1

Kind of uglyAlso you can't say, "nah, I don't want to save that - I started it by accident", like you can with Apple's app. The Watch app is fine but the iPhone one is really quite ugly and boring when you compare it to Apple's..Version: 1.0

Lately it has been crashing and losing workoutsLately the app has been been stalling out for cardio workouts over 30 minutes and losing the data. The active calories are recorded but the workout itself and accompanying data are lost without recovery. It’s disappointing because I prefer it to the Apple app and previously worked without fail..Version: 1.0.1

Love it for what it does but wish It had more customization!Well of course I used this app when I work out… I also use my watch to track my heart rate while I meditate. And that goes in the mindfulness category to be effectively tracked in the Apple health app. This app only counts as activity. So my activity is a little bit out of balance because a lo of it’s actually mindfulness. It would be great if you could make a category we could change the ‘workout’ to mindfulness instead of just activity. Even yoga could be mindfulness or activity..Version: 2.1.1

Location tracking? In lots of ways this is a great app. But I find the location tracking to be very flakey. If you want to see your route on a map this only works intermittently. It’s a shame because otherwise this is a much better way of displaying the information on the go..Version: 2.1

Fading (5 -> 2 stars)I have used this app on the hone and watch for at least 2 years. I loved it, especially the customization of the workout. I have become disappointed with it over the last months as I realize its limitations. Workouts recorded with Workouts++ do not count toward the Activity app workout counter (for example the 7/7 workout week. The workouts dont count towards activity records. Please keep up the development..Version: 2.1.1

No Response, I want a Refund, bad appI've tried to use the app at the gym when I'm on the treadmill or cycle. The only thing that is accurate is the BPM. The calories, distance, and time do not match up with the information on the treadmill therefore I don't know which information I should go with. How do I fix this? Still waiting for a response from the developer days later. The app isn't working correctly during my outside bicycle rides either. You sure didn't have a problem with taking my money though. I want a refund!.Version: 1.0.1

Sporadic performanceI like this app ... when it works. I used it for several months but recently it just won’t start. The icon spins, big “1” appears, and then nothing. I’ve re-installed the app, turned it on and off on watch, rebooted watch multiple times. Sorry to have to say goodbye..Version: 2.2.2

Currently unreliable to record workout dataCurrently the app is unreliable and I hold out hope that it gets fixed as otherwise it’s the watch app I run the most. The most recent version of the app has crashed three times on my series 2 watch since the most recent update. After the crash the workout data was lost in two of the crashes as the app refused to load on my watch. After one of the crashes the app loaded, found my workout data and saved it however the data was incorrect and did not reflect the workout..Version: 2.1

Not recording GPX routes anymoreI have been using this app for about a month and it’s been great, but in the last week my runs are recorded with the correct time/distance but no route/map which means metrics on Strava are missing/inaccurate. I tried restarting phone and watch but still no map..Version: 2.1

Didn't workI paid $4.99 plus tax for an application that did not work as advertised. I used the app for a week on the strength circuit and wanted to track duration, heart rate and some idea of calorie burn. The only thing the so tracked was time. I got nothing but zeros under pulse and calorie readout. I tried all the settings to see if it would work but nothing changed. I have now uninstalled it..Version: 1.0.1

I love the app but.....This app was what I was looking for. The ability to set up interface quadrants to view multiple metrics. I especially loved that I could set a lower and upper limit so I could work in a zone. Here is where the low ratings come in. The sliders just don’t work. I try to set the upper limit and when I press the slider it just jumps to a random spot on the slider. I try to slide it back and the focus will jump to a random quadrant. For example I am on the bpm value (dotted line around the BPM value). I touch a slider the dotted box will just jump back to the mileage. I switch to the lower slider and the same thing happens. It’s frustrating!!!! Finally gave up and went for a run. The BPM quadrant only showed my heart rate once out of 3 runs. Just would not come up. This is the app I was looking for and would definitely up my rating if I could get it to work like the demo video..Version: 2.2.2

Looks nice but it keeps interfering with my watch faceI like the features for listening to podcasts on my watch but I am having a problem where the app keeps opening whenever I look at my watch. I keep hitting the crown to get back to my watch face and when I go to check there time 2 minutes later it displays the main screen for this app. I am going to have to remove it until this is fixed..Version: 2.0

App with potentialThis app has some true potential. It has some issues with the haptic feedback when hr above, but does notify when going below. Other issue is that will only display imperial measurements on the Apple Watch, but the phone app works well. Just a few minor fixes, and this will be a truly good app..Version: 1.0

Fantastic app one problemI love this app it is 100% flawless when it works use it for running 5ks and strength training and let me tell you it's phenomenal . It can track your heart rate to stay at a targeted BPM So you can stay on the top of your out . I can say this my go to for last 3 or months lately I have to try several times or reinstall it or I'll get an infinate loading screen which is the only downside . In which case I can't wait 10 minutes ... To start my work out ..Version: 1.0.1

Good but has a major bugWhile your are doing a HITS workout and try to lock the watch, the screen does not go back to info screen but rather stays on the settings (resume/lock) page. This behavior defeats the purpose of having customized layout since you can’t see it if you want to prevent accidental taps while working out..Version: 2.0.2

Huge potential but metrics inaccurateThis app has huge potential and would be an easy five stars if it could fix some pretty bad issues. Firstly the current pace metric is unusable. It wildly fluctuates at a much higher value than the average pace. Even though it always remains higher than average pace you can see average pace going down over time. Some maths here is not working. More worryingly the value of average pace when you finish a workout will be more than 10 seconds higher in the recorded workout. In my latest workout it even added about a minute to my total time. When I exported the workout to Garmin via rungap I could see that it just dumped a heap of time in the final split. So I have no faith in the metrics that this app shows and this is critical for this type of app. This is a real shame as the app is awesome for its configuration. If these issues can be fixed it would be my go to Apple watch app for workouts..Version: 2.1.1

Missing a couple things...I mainly got this app because the standard Apple Watch workout app was missing a couple of things. I hike A LOT. But with this app, it doesn’t track your hiking distance? I don’t understand why not. It’s a MAJOR flaw that I hope gets fixed (@ developers!!) soon because I don’t want to go back to just using the workout app. It even tracks the distance for an indoor run and outdoor walking. Why is distance not an option for hiking?? Other than that, I really like this app. It works great, doesn’t use a whole lot of battery and is almost 100% customizable which I love. I definitely recommend it but for that one MAJOR issue..Version: 2.1.1

For outdoor running this is just not goodPretty bad. The app can't track my position, when two other APS are having no trouble at all. It gets stuck on a distance, then jumps by half a kilometer in 1 second, then it gets stuck again while I'm running at a very steady constant pace, without tree coverage or anything blocking reception. I tried both miles and kilometers, it switched to kilometers seemingly randomly, and the speed monitoring is add bad as the distance. Can't use it..Version: 2.0.1

Does Not Work as AdvertisedThe app is supposed to tap based on heart rate. Does not work. Basically this app is less functional than the standard workouts app. Developer notified but no fixes. Do not buy this lemon..Version: 1.0

Non-operational appThe app seems to be outdated and doesn’t work properly any more (iOS 13 on iPhone XR). Below is the email sent to the developer 8 days ago with no reply so far: Just purchased the app, spent about a half an hour trying to set up a simple workout: 1 min rest between sets, 3 min rest between exercises and doesn’t seem it’s possible at all. I’d love to read some guide on the app functionality because it is counterintuitive at some aspects but there’s only short introductory description on your web site. Specific functionality questions: 1. Stopwatch metric: 1.1. Is there a way to add intervals of different durations (1 and 3 min) in the same workout? 1.2. The scale max is hard coded to 1:40 but I don’t understand what if anything is affected by that value at all since the stopwatch keeps going infinitely until double tap. 1.3. What are the sliders for? 2. All metrics: 2.1. Sliders at the bottom are almost impossible to operate - at least on iPhone XR. They are: - irresponsive to dragging - jumping to random position on the scale - somehow switching the scale to the first configuration field (i.e. I’ve set the first one to Stopwatch and then configure the 4th which is HR - playing with the sliders for HR constantly brings back focus on Stopwatch field and changes the scale meaning) - making fine tuning impossible, i.e. I failed setting upper HR boundary to 167 - slider jumps from 165 to 170..Version: 2.2.1

Not so goodDistance on Watch face defaults to miles intermittently instead of km. Heart rate did not display on any workouts however it was recorded. Can’t say I could recommend unless improvements are made..Version: 2.2.1

Update September ‘19Since the update, the HR and BPM indicators no longer function although show as recorded. Slightly annoying as before the app was perfect!.Version: 2.2.1

Didn’t work...I downloaded this several days ago. Used it for the first time today. Had it customized to she duration, avg pace, current pace, distance, and heart rate. 5 minutes into my run I noticed that duration was the only thing recording. Had to stop and use native activity app. Not worth it. Like the stats it can provide but for recording your workouts it doesn’t work..Version: 2.0.3

Podcast is nice but issues with GPSThere is a lot I really like about the app - it’s pretty much the only option for streaming podcasts on an LTE Apple Watch. It generally works (occasional hiccups) but on the whole a welcome addition. Unfortunately Apple doesn’t let you start podcast playing until after starting the workout though. It would be great with a few extra features like being able to set goals; and confirming when I want to end a workout. My biggest issue is that GPS doesn’t work reliably - I haven’t been able to get it to save the GPS route at all in the last several attempts..Version: 2.0.3

Yes, butVersion 2.0 works well during workouts. Allows me to listen to podcasts whether stored locally on watch or streamed. But once the workout is finished and done, the app self-launches so that every time I look at my watch I have to take action to see what time of it is rather than select my next workout. It drives me crazy and I have deleted the app from my watch until it is fixed or someone shares an undocumented solution..Version: 2.0.1

Doesn’t always save gps record...Which resulted in me losing the gps record of a recent half marathon. I’ve used Zones, Strava and the default Workouts app on the Apple Watch without problems, so maybe it’s my own fault for switching things around. Customizable layout is good, more options for alerts (different HR zones, pace, etc) would be better. Reliability however is a must. Hence the 3 stars..Version: 2.1

Good; but not some aspects missing. It’s a good app to have during workouts. But; my BPM doesn’t work during the workout; so I cannot see my BPM/HR during the workout; but it appears on my phone after I ended the workout. Everything else, so far works good. I tried to uninstall/reinstall and change the placement of the reading, but nothing seemed to work. Hopefully I can get some assistance or there’s an update pending..Version: 2.2.2

Crashes and goes into crash-restart loopOn the watch it’s been broken since the most recent update. The app crashes and goes into crash-restart loop. Before that update happened the app had lost control of the heart rate sensor. So it’s been a while since I’ve been able to use the app. The developer didn’t respond to an inquiry. It feels like the app is abandoned now..Version: 2.2.2

Not on par with Apple's native workouts app.David, Please add in milliseconds to the time. Some UI improvements are needed. I find the stats screen to be unsettling. The color scheme needs rethinking and the stats at the bottom need realignment to look centered. Currently they look to be pulled too far to the right..Version: 1.0.1

Was good but now ended developmentI reached out to the dev with ideas to make the app more useful, adding what are (to my mind) obviously missing features, including changing the time interval to see summaries for. But I was given the brush off saying the dev was no longer working on it. Now deleting it and looking for a more functional alternative..Version: 2.2.2

Update the app!I know you’re active with updating other apps (Pedometer which who really uses??). When new iOS came out this app took a dive. Multiple times it would stop recording the work out. It stopped integrating with Apples’ activity tracking. I used to love this app because I could customize what I’m seeing for visual cues on how my workout is going. Now I’m stuck with using Apple’s workout app which is terrible. Don’t download this until it’s been updated (last update was 8 months ago). IF and big IF to the developer, if you do update it, it would be great if you could integrate music control into it. If I want to skip a song I would have to back out and then go back in..Version: 2.1

Another Glich in the app.If you goto configure a new workout choice it crashes. Count downs from 1 and then will loop and goto the home screen on the watch. Annoyed that it has been this way for 3-4 months now without a new fix. I paid for that app and now i can only use the “other” setting for all workouts. Afraid if i choose something else i will have to uninstall and reinstall the app for it to “work” again..Version: 2.2.2
