LEGO® Boost for Negative User Reviews

Ok for younger usersCon: The app is the only way to access the building instructions. Con: the simplified coding controls are only accessible inside the building area and not in the coding only area Pro: the simplified coding works well and there are great pieces like the light sensor, motor, and tracks..Version: 1.6.3

App is confusingWe got Vernie so our six year old could start learning coding fundamentals. Unfortunately our four year old keeps breaking Vernie, which would be fine if we knew how to reassemble. Because there are no books, we have to use the app directions to rebuild. However, the app is so confusing to use that we can never find the directions. And when Vernie is rebuilt, we can hardly understand the various icon selections in the app and what they do. I wish there were words we could click on or simple directions. In my opinion it is not user friendly, and for that reason we simply don’t play with Vernie anymore. $160 toy we don’t use..Version: 1.8.0

Confusing and constrained appThis is almost a great product but the confusing constrained app and website hold it back. You can’t view instructions without unlocking levels like some kind of game; you have to find sketchy third party PDFs online because LEGO wants you go to through a clunky undocumented “experience”. You can’t experiment with blocks without connecting to Bluetooth every time. The app doesn’t seem like it trusts its customers!! it’s frustrating and confusing. with all that said the hardware is great and the block based programming is cool. Sigh..Version: 1.9.0

Lousy appBuggy, uses too much storage and user experience is poor. Overall experience is very cheap, app is not well built, and frustrating experience for my children. Lego charges a premium but has not delivered..Version: 1.4.5

Unusable on iPhone Xs maxThe position of the swipe up bar on the iPhone Xs max is on top of the coding blocks meaning every time we try and drag a block it takes us out of the app..Version: 1.7.0

Hopefully things will turn aroundMy son and I love Lego’s. We build all the time. I have spent well over an hour trying to get the instructions to build the robot back. It crashed my new phone. He was looking at it before he built the robot. Now he is on the verge of tears because the instructions are gone. This is too much money for how frustrating the experience has been. We unloaded the app and hopefully we can get the instructions back. If not it is a poor design on the creators part. There should at least be warnings you will lose instructions!! Instead of a fun gift this has been like a punishment!.Version: 1.9.2

App stopped openingThis was great and my 6 year old LOVED it until the app stopped opening. It gets to the Home Screen and freezes. We have tried several times to delete and reinstall with no luck, it still freezes at the Home Screen..Version: 1.9.6

Confusing App; get the PDFs from Lego siteThis app has the build instructions. There is no doco in the box. They should also put the colour printout of instructions in the box and/or include them as a PDF in the app, since the app is confusing or will trap you sometimes. We had to go search out the PDF on the Lego site to get access to the whole story to get past apparent dead ends in the app. The confusing part ( at least for the main robot Vernie) is that the build is in multiple stages interrupted by a test or use of controlling the robot before allowing you to see or access the build stages later. The problem: the app assumes you have completed a build "page" after you look at a page. If you look ahead at steps you havent done yet, the app assumes you did them, and moves you into the next section where you test or try the robot. You cant get back to look at the build steps you missed until you you try controlling the robot (which is illogical when you know you havent yet completed part of the build it wants you to test or play with before building more). This product needs a brief 1 pager with Text instructions in the box (not just cryptiv pictures) to give some brief context to the approach they take to the build in the app.Version: 1.4.4

I want to love this, but the app will not work.I got the LEGO Boost system for my son for Christmas. I have downloaded this app on 3 different iPads. All of which have up to date operating systems. The app will not move past the opening screen. I have emailed the LEGO Boost customer service department. After several days I finally got a response. I emailed back all the answers to the questions. Here we are a month after Christmas, customer service has not helped me with the issue, and my son is disappointed with what should have been an awesome toy..Version: 1.4.5

Problem with speaker not fixed after 5 monthsDisappointed that the problem is still not fixed after 5 months. Noise is still coming from speaker for your ears than the actual iPhone speaker. I have iPhone 12 max.Version: 1.9.5

Instability caused by “bug fix” updatesThe latest update to the app made it completely unusable. There is now a huge gray option screen every time you attempt to do any of the coding. It prevents you from actually controlling your creations. There are other reviews with this same exact issue described. Reinstalling the app doesn’t work as the developers propose. This happens on a 10.2” iPad and 2 iPhone XRs. It’s a shame that Lego doesn’t have more refined software development lifecycle processes in place, because their manufacturing is out of this world. I’d love to see the same level of quality when it comes to digital LEGO products..Version: 1.9.4

Bad AppThe Other Blocks Kn Dads iPhone Is Still On And Disappearing For Rileys Ipad Leaving Him The Color Sensor Block.Version: 1.9.0

Unusable pile of rubbishWhoever created this app should be made to use it for the rest of their lives. Bugs all over. No way back to instructions. No wonder Lego is going backwards with products like this..Version: 1.0.17

Why flatten the batteries before you build? Then once we are half way through building how to get back to the build instructions? Not that useable interface?!.Version: 1.4.5

Horrible app for the price we paid for LEGO setThe app has not worked well at all. Every time my child gets through a section of building the app either does not store where he left off and locks the level again or it brings up a settings box (but not the primary settings box for app-which is empty) that will not go away. When you try to close out the settings the last check mark takes you to the webpage and will not close to continue to next section. We paid a lot of money for the robot set, which did not come with paper instructions as a back up. The app needs to be functional..Version: 1.9.1

Update sucksThe new update sucks.Version: 1.9.0

Horrible app even worse customer serviceIt’s so irritating when you buy a toy and then it never works nor does the customer service phone number… just a pathetic joke…why is Lego so annoying..Version: 1.9.8

Please help my daughterWhen recently when we were doing the add-ons to Vernie, The game started glitching. It said please attach ________ to the robot, but it was already attached! I started pressing really hard on them… but still nothing! I tried swapping them… still nothing! Then I deleted the app and downloaded it again…but still nothing! Then I even rebuilt it,… but this time it just showed the gray box with nothing on it. Please help!!!.Version: 1.9.7

App does not workWe got lego boost for our son’s birthday and a month later still not able to play with it. He started building vernie and got stuck trying to connect to the app with Bluetooth. The app keeps asking us to wait indefinitely. We called the lego customer service they told us that they are aware of the problem and that it is being fixed so that we should wait for a week or so until a new release of the app is available and reinstall. Two weeks later still nothing , not a great birthday present so far, can somebody help?? === UPDATE ==== got help from tech support and it’s worked (thanks :-)) briefly: -use the lego powered up app to reinstall the firmware -connector to lego boost app again.Version: 1.9.7

Endless loopWe can’t get the move hub to actually work. We only get an endless loop of please wait, then turn on your move hub, then please wait again. I have called support who says it is the app problem, but they haven’t fixed it yet so we just have a paperweight now.Version: 1.9.7

Connection problem!Guys, fix the connection issue asap. We bought the toy but can’t use it..Version: 1.9.7

Touch screen problemsEvery Time I Go Into This App The Touch Screen Doesn’t Work! I tried using the application in 3 Different devices And In all of the Devices the Touch Wouldn’t Work! But As Soon As I Go Back To home Screen or on any other application, The Touch Would Be Perfectly Fine! And That made me unable to use the application.Version: 1.6.0

No instruction override and can't zoom part boxWe are using it on an older iPhone. It doesn't zoom into the box of the part you are looking for so it is WAY too small. And we can't help with the other iphone because we can't get to the instruction part of the program past the first steps..Version: 1.4.4

Sound doesn’t workThis was a birthday present for our 5 year old. So disappointing that the audio stops working. When you go onto the building step that requires the iPhone (iPhone 11 Pro) microphone it will switch to the earpiece speaker rather than the external speaker & there is no way to resolve this. Phoning Lego results in them telling you to uninstall & re-install app, making sure it’s the most up to date version & phone is updated. Makes no difference. It is an issue with the app itself which Lego needs to resolve - such a shame that Lego Boost products are widely available but are not adequately supported by the app - needs fixing ASAP please!.Version: 1.9.6

Great toy but...Okay, I got to admit this is a pretty darn cool toy but...When I was assembling it you start with bag one and then you open all of them because the frikin 2nd bag doesn't have all the pieces! You open one after the other and before you know it BOOM! All the bags are gone. You think it's no big deal but it is you can't find pieces very easily. So, please get this fixed and tell us at the beginning that your going to be opening ALL the bags..Version: 1.4.4

Critical bug preventing app to openHi Developer team, We we're loving this app and the boost system and will change our rating once this bug is fixed. The app opens and lands on a screen that says "New features have been added to this app. Please upgrade through your store." Now I'm in the App Store and there and the app doesn't indicate an update is available, it just offers the standard Open button. Please fix!.Version: 1.4.3

Difficult to useTook us an hour to get the Boost module connected. Of course, I didn’t know that was our problem, since there are so few actual words in the UI; the hieroglyphics were impenetrable, even to a lifelong Lego builder. After an hour of Googling, many resets, and 3 different devices, finally got firmware updated on the module, and we haven’t had any more connection problems so far..Version: 1.9.7

Firmware upgrade failPlease fix the firmware upgrade fail on iPhone 6S, latest IOS. i can't use the app or the Lego any more bcz I get blocked on the upgrade firmware screen (green bar gets to 100% within a few minutes, and then nothing happens/app freezes.Version: 1.4.5

Is it broken? When I program the cat to make it do stuff when I pet it, it automatically does it........Version: 1.4.5

Where are the pack instructionsIt would be better if you actually showed what packs you have to use.Version: 1.9.8

Won’t connect! We’ve tried everything but it won’t connect to the app. Tried enabling Bluetooth in app settings and iPad settings, tried changing the batteries. The light changes to blue and the app endlessly says please wait…. Help!.Version: 1.9.7

HorribleDoesn’t tell me what bag to open😡.Version: 1.9.2

Technical support says there is a known bug with version 1.9.7.The app building instructions require the Bluetooth connection to be tested halfway through building. Unfortunately the app gets an error when connecting with our iPad Air. We phoned technical support who guided us through all the possible problems and then admitted to a known connection fault with version 1.9.7. Please wait for the next app version before purchasing. We have waited over two months and are now returning the set. Good luck..Version: 1.9.7

Extremely frustrating🤬 set it up before your kid wants to playI just spent over an hour trying to troubleshoot the Bluetooth connection and my kid is in tears with frustration. After deleting and reinstalling the app didn’t solve the issue we got on Lego chat support. We rebooted iPad reconnected Bluetooth checked model of iPad and confirmed latest version. Then for half an hour we tried to force a firmware update on the move hub following confusing instructions that didn’t work and now we’re told IT will contact us tomorrow? Kid is devastated after all this waiting and waiting..Version: 1.9.7

Good idea executed poorlyDog slow and loses connection all the time. Reconnecting doesn’t always work..Version: 1.6.3

Bad bad badCan’t say much for the app, but it completely screwed up my IOS and was impossible to clear from the in memory apps by swiping. I had to reboot to return the phone to normal operation. Naturally the first thing I did was to delete it!!!.Version: 1.9.6

Great for kids but...In theory, this is a great app for kids who love lego and have a creative imagination. It allows for basic coding that will keep a kid’s interest for a long time. That said, if you ever encounter an issue with the app, it’s very difficult to problem solve on your own, and Lego’s website is not great with information about the app. Rating 3 stars because when working, it’s a great app, but when something goes wrong, it can be a very frustrating app..Version: 1.9.4

The app doesn't even work! All we get is the opening page and nothing else. Won't load, won't do anything! Waste of money and extremely disappointing..Version: 1.6.3

Pieces in bagI got this toy for Christmas which I was really happy about, but one thing that kind of irritates me, is the fact there are numbers in the bags, and the doesn’t tell us which number bag to open first, I am still currently working on it, but it is really hard, I open a bag and can’t find a piece that is in the instructions, so I have to look for one piece, so I have to search every bag, and that takes a while, and I am only in step 1 and I have to open bag 8 for one piece, so please add the number bag you need to use for each step, and it would make it way easier..Version: 1.9.6

Can’t use it on iPad AirI can’t use it with iPad Air..Version: 1.8.0

Lego boost doesn’t pair with my iPadLego application is not pairing with either my iPad or iPhone. No help is provided in the customer support website. Please help.Version: 1.9.7

Very slow on I padVery very slow on 2017 Ipad.Version: 1.9.1

10 second delayI got myself the Lego roll or coaster and I wanted to sent it up to a moter so we got the boost one. Every time the cart would go up the track by the time it got to the third wheel it stoped running. Also beacouse of the 10 second delay after each moter run you can’t have 2 carts on it on the same time. That takes away half the fun. Please respond beacouse I’m disappointed..Version: 1.9.6

Frustrating. All the latest updates but the app displays no coding tiles. My kids are heartbroken..Version: 1.9.4

The app is doesn’t work! This time is 2 time i can’t play it because is just say:”connect the interactive motor and “connect the distance sensor. But im connect it alot but the app just told that again..Version: 1.9.8

SuckssssI would go on the app and spend 20 minutes trying to connect the robot and follow the instructions and it still doesn’t work…don’t waste your money on this…🤣👎🏼.Version: 1.9.7

App is rubbishGot this for my sons 12th birthday and the app is having problems contacted Lego to confirm the app isn’t working said will be fixed in a week still nothing a lot of money wasted.Version: 1.9.7

Would be great but buggy experienceFor some odd reason the app audio reverts to the telephone ear speaker and not the loud speaker. So frustrating, can’t hear anything the robot is saying and making coding quite a non-event for my 7yo..Version: 1.9.4

I take tat backBefore I thought this game was **** but now it’s fun i finish building the robot.Version: 1.9.6

Great when workingThe system is great when it's working, but the app is very slow to load and regularly freezes. This is very frustrating. Please update the app and fix the bugs..Version: 1.9.0

Initially excellentSo this kit is fantastic and my son (7) loved it for about 30 minutes. He built the initial set and had fun instructing it to move round the kitchen floor. We then attempted one of the main builds. We started it but accidentally closed the app after a few minutes and went back in but the build instructions were nowhere to be found - the app assumed we'd build it and took us to the programming step. We could not find any way in the app to return to the build instructions. In addition, the app then started reporting that the batteries were low. They were new and only put in 30 minutes ago! In the end we had to search the internet for a PDF with the build instructions to finish building the robot which is a real shame. The other real annoyance is that you have to sync the robot before building. This is weird as you don't interact with the robot while building it, only at the end. I get LEGO want an interactive experience but please make the build instructions readily available for kids that want to build the robots at any time - if you hide the build instructions you'll have disappointed kids..Version: 1.0.16

Low battery alert but brand new!Daughter was so excited to receive this on Christmas Day and the first level worked perfectly well. Returned to it today to find a low battery alert - the batteries we first used were not new so I just went out and bought brand new ones. Still the robot tells me that it has low battery and the light on the brick is set to green. It will not connect to my iPhone! Very frustrating!!!.Version: 1.4.4

It used to work great...The Lego Boost app used to work great on my 4th gen iPad (MD514LL/A) running iOS 10.3.3, which is a supported device according to the Lego website. However, ever since the update to version 1.6.3 of the app, it crashes every time upon trying to open it. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app, and even did a complete factory reset on the iPad itself, but the app still crashes every time. The Lego Boost Creative Toolbox itself is a wonderful set, my kids love it, and fortunately we have another device that they can operate it with. But, if you are considering purchasing the set to use with a 4th gen iPad, I recommend downloading the app first to make sure that it works..Version: 1.6.3

Don’t buyNot able to connect it. Try to reboot phone, same issues. Kid is really disappointed..Version: 1.9.7

Bad programmingNo help what so ever, no explanation on what each control does???? No real programming available, it is only sequential, meaning you can’t do 2 or more thing at the same time. I think I will put my own control and program it with my IOT... this programming is pretty useless....Version: 1.8.0

Crashes lots and slow to respondVery frustrating overall. Needs some refinement to make this a decent experience.Version: 1.4.4

It doesn’t workDoesn’t work on iPad Pro 2018 11” for some reason.Version: 1.9.2

Might not be worth itI built the models and when I was at the fourth on come none the motor and connect sensor to the move hub. I did everything so I can code but the signs wouldn’t go away. I powered off my iPad, I closed the app then reopened it and I even deleted the app and reinstalled it and still the signs wouldn’t go away. I don’t know what I’m gonna do but I’ll try and fix it and it’s gonna take me another eternity.Version: 1.9.6

Audio issuesSame issue here on my iPhone where it switches to earpiece speaker and ruins programming experience. It may be when the microphone feature is activated as someone else has explained. Please sort an update!! Tried on iPhone 6s and 11 pro.Version: 1.9.6

Bad battery life and builds don’t workThe battery barely last any time at all and lots of the builds barely work. I spent hours making then trying to fix one, we thought we did then it next time it wouldn’t work again.Version: 1.6.3

Firmware problemI have been stuck on the firm ware for 30 minutes!.Version: 1.9.8

TrashIm trying to download it but it won’t stop saying “storage full no matter how many times i downloas it’s not loading.Version: 1.9.2

DisappointedI am really disappointed because of the auto builder. All the others were fun and easy to make and function. The auto builder was by far the hardest to make and by far the least working. The grabbing system is fragile, after a couple of times enjoying see it build tiny robot models it just decided to stop working. Even the motors decided to kill itself when I build the auto builder. I am disappointed but all the others were really fun..Version: 1.9.5

HorribleI spent 5h building all of the builds and the app deleted all the data.Version: 1.9.8

Robots don’t workI’ve loved this so far but the auto builder won’t work and I don’t know why I checked double checked triple checked and I can’t seem to make it work.Version: 1.8.0

Need to be updatedThe sensor blocks don’t show up FIX IT PLEASE.Version: 1.9.0

Sound isn’t working properlyThere is a bug with the app where as soon as the microphone is engaged, the sound only plays through the headphone speakers. This is an issue on my iPhone 6 and iPhoneX and the only solution is rebooting the app. It essentially means I cannot use anything that is dependent on the microphone such as the sound recognition or recording my own tracks..Version: 1.9.6

Starts from scratch after iPad sleepsGreat app but can’t continue building from where you left off after the iPad sleeps. You have to reconnect the Bluetooth, then go back through several of the initial screens again to get back to where you were in the build. Please only get the device to request connection to the motor when it actually needs to, and let the app continue from where you left off building when you open the iPad again after it sleeps. Otherwise it’s a 5 star app..Version: 1.4.4

Hi I have Vernie andWhen I try and do a action for instance forwards the green hub button goes off and I have no idea how to fix it I’ve only had this robot for one day okay thank you....😐.Version: 1.9.5

Used to be goodNow I’m trying to update the firmware but the robot keeps turning off.Version: 1.9.8

Mysterious iconsI like the Lego Boost Concept and much of it works well but many of the programming icons are mysterious. Their design often give very little clue as to what will be the result and even after trying them I am often clueless about how the action I have just witnessed relates to the graphics on the icon. Perhaps I’m a bit stupid, but I’ve searched the web for an 'explainer' of the programming icons and, so far, found nothing..Version: 1.4.4

Great to play with ,but some needs to learn how to correctly organize there LEGO sets! This toy is awesome but when I tried to esame le this toy I had to open one, then six, then three please put all of the pieces that you use FIRST in the ONE bag NOT IN BAG NUMBER TEWNTY SIX! Soooooooooooo, please correct this please so than us mothers have an easier way of putting this thing together.Version: 1.4.4
