LEGO® Builder's Journey for Negative User Reviews

Fantastic game with terrible controlsThe game is fantastic and beautiful! But it’s ruined but the terrible touch controls. The game struggles to tell the difference between a long press or if you’re moving your finger making it frustrating to drop bricks. If this gets fixed then the game would be a solid 5/5.Version: 3.0.2

Fun Game but Poor Camera and ControlsIt’s a great idea, although some levels are very easy and others frustratingly difficult. But the big problem is the awkward camera (there’s no zoom which makes things almost impossible on some levels unless you have tiny fingers; plus for some reason the camera is limited in movement) and clumsy controls..Version: 1.0.1

Cute concept falls short of expectationsI really want to like this, however the game mechanics and control needs a lot of development before I could recommend it. It has so much potential to be a fun, relaxing and zen game but I found that placing pieces was so hit and miss and you can’t rotate the scenes into the position you would want to view it so it was anything but zen! So much so I will delete it after about 7 levels. ☹️.Version: 1.5

Could be good.. but beautifulControls are too fiddle and effort consuming. Can’t adjust view as well as you should be able to. I spent my time losing interest quickly after 3 sessions because it is let down by manipulation of blocks that gets repetitively boring after a couple of levels..Version: 1.0

Meh...Thinking it will be a great game, it’s not ! Very shot (finish in 30 mn), there are no real story.... We don’t really understand where is the pieces we can move... Why we can’t play in a sandbox mode at the end ? I wish I can construct what I want we all the pieces. I feel really frustrated. Hopefully, it’s not a paid game !!!.Version: 1.0

Great but ShortThis game is great. It starts off fairly easy and gets progressively more difficult. However it’s fairly short and can be finished in a day..Version: 1.0

Fire the UX team! This game has beautiful graphics, a positive theme etc etc. It should be a great, enjoyable game. But it’s not. The controls are borderline unusable, and then the level design requires you to take quick actions - a perfect recipe for frustration..Version: 3.0.1

Good concept. Terrible controlsThe concept of the game is good but the controls are terrible..Version: 2.0

Beautiful Game, Awful ControlsI’ve no idea how good this game is because the controls are so poor, they don’t allow you to experience it. I’m quite shocked this made it out in this state. A real shame..Version: 2.0.2

Annoying controls - style over usabilityBeautiful art style no question but the interaction to move and place with limited panning became tedious after 20 mins and maybe 10 puzzles. The shadow of the floating pieces does not help and is ultimately frustrating. Sadly despite the great looks it was a quick delete..Version: 1.0

Nasty controlNasty control.Version: 1.5

Alot to improveGreat game but hard to control, specially small bits of lego and spinning the camera angle round. I would love a freestyle lego app where we can build what ever we like with lego bricks..Version: 2.0.2

Poor controls ruin what could be an otherwise great gameI love the concept. Artistic style is perfect for Lego. Music is great. Puzzles seem like they would be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it is all RUINED by horrible controls. The camera snaps around for no good reason. You try to grab a brick but end up grabbing the one next to it which usually messes up whatever you were trying to do in the first place. This game has a ton of potential but needs a major control revamp. Too bad it will probably never be updated..Version: 1.5

Same puzzlesIv completed twice now but seen to be getting the same puzzles every time it restarts is that correct if so may as well delete if just repeats.Version: 1.5

Lovely look and feel - controls are frustratingAlso can’t zoom in or anything so if you don’t have iPad or a huge phone it is hard to play.Version: 1.0.1

Clumsy-Erratically controls.Controls are a bit annoying, its hard to get the pieces in the right place and position; I didn’t mind it, until timed levels start to show. So, in those levels, the erratically behavior of the controls make these timed levels imposible and frustrating … and on the Apple TV is even worst. Its a shame that so gorgeous graphics become unplayable by a bad level design due to the controls :( :( :( :( Update: I just installed the game in my Mcbook Pro … and the PC version (not from the Apple Arcade) looks Hundred times way more better !!! … WT*%^!!?? … Why it looks better on a poor PC, than on my “super powerful” McBook Pro???.Version: 2.0.1

Infuriating controlsGiven the tutorial you’d think the controls would feel intuitive, but when you are then presented with more complex puzzles, they become infuriating to use. Had to put the game down, could not get pieces to go where I intended them to go and kept dropping them. Had to stop playing.Version: 2.0.1

FrustratingLovely to look at, but seriously frustrating controls. Takes too long to put a piece down with a long tap, a short tap to rotate, another tap to pick up, and when pieces are close together, it doesn’t do what you want it to do. Also doesn’t allow a wide enough range of views, the camera only moves so far and it’s hard to work out what qualifies as a ‘slide’ and what is a gap. 3 stars for eye candy :).Version: 1.0.1

UnplayableFix your game so its actually possible to place the blocks, I legit feel like I'm going to break my phone because of how hard you have to press to place the damn block. Add a button on the screen so that you just click that and ohh the block is placed no issues, the “hold to place blocks” feature is broken.Version: 1.6

Clumsy ControlsPlease tune these controls. They’re awful. I literally just tried to place a block 5 times in a row but dropped it each time instead. Where is the sweet spot? There’s no visual indication, not haptic feedback, no auditory feedback. You cannot put your finger or Apple Pencil on the brick you want, you have to point above it at just the right spot … it’s ridiculous. How about making a drop button on the side so placing and dropping aren’t the same thing. How about highlighting the bricks that you will place them on based upon where your finger is. Anything? Coming from PC, are mobile gamers just ok with this level of dysfunction?.Version: 2.0.1

Controls defeats the purposeCame here to leave a review for the developer about how awful the controls are. But noticed people have been complaining about the controls for a year and developer has done nothing about. Beautiful game. Calming music. Infuriating controls. Dev pay attention to the reviews and fix the controls. Put buttons on the screen instead of tapping doing 2 different actions (pick up brick and rotate) and holding a tap not working if the brick isn’t perfectly aligned..Version: 3.0.2

Beautiful game but not great for meBeautiful fun game except it's too hard to play on a phone. It's suitable for kids, on a video game console. Also I wish it was easier to maneuver and fit in the lego pieces..Version: 1.0

Mostly fun but hard to control and followThis is a fun game but the controls are terrible. I find myself having to try 3 times per brick to place it. Furthermore down the storyline when a new mechanic is introduced sometimes I feel lost and unsure of how to continue. I have had to search how to complete certain levels as there is little user help.Version: 3.0.2

Poor controlsThis is a very nice puzzle game, cute and I liked guessing what to do in each level. However, the controls are clunky and difficult to actually get pieces where you want them, and you can’t actually rotate your view, despite it appearing as if you can (you get a bit of rotation as long as you aren’t actually trying to do anything; in other words it looks cool but is useless). Worse, I ran into a level where speed matters - a level like that, the pieces need to be easier to move and place or there should be more time. It’s very frustrating when I know what to do and how but actually getting it done is so annoying I just don’t care anymore. This game has a lot of potential. It superficially looks similar to Monument Valley but to those comparing them, this game is not even close to as good or polished..Version: 1.0

A beautiful delight, but...This game is so much of what I love... tiny little toy boxes full of possibility. The look of the game is absolutely gorgeous with tons of intricate detail, and I wish it felt half as good play. The “hold to place” mechanic is not at all intuitive (I keep trying to tap to place? or something?) and half the time I find it nonresponsive, and the camera often feels quite limiting. Doing anything with speed (I’m stuck on a mud level rn) is finicky and difficult. If just a few of the control things were tweaked I’d be raving, but as of now I just have a thumb cramp..Version: 1.0.1

A really beautiful game marred by horrible controlsI’ve played this on both the iPhone and the Apple TV 4K I started out on the Apple TV, using the Siri remote and quickly got frustrated with the overly simplified controls. So I pulled out my Xbox controller expecting the controls to improve but I was still stuck with just the A button for picking up bricks, rotating bricks AND putting down bricks. 😩 And trying to quickly and accurately place bricks where you want them, which becomes critical later in the game, is annoyingly inaccurate and inconsistent. Fortunately for it, the rest of the game is beautiful. Which encouraged my 5yr old daughter to push me to push through my frustrations with the controls to eventually finish the game (it’s very short. Maybe 2 hours playing time) on the Apple TV. After finishing it on the Apple TV I had a go on my iPhone XS, which is decidedly easier than the Apple TV’s controls but I still found that placement controls more inconsistent than I would like. If there was an update to improve the controls, this otherwise beautiful game would be a solid 5 stars. But for now it’s a 3 from me..Version: 1.6

ShortFun, moderately challenging for some levels. But way too short. Was done in an hour..Version: 1.0

Please read before downloadingI downloaded this game about a week ago and immediately knew I had to write a review. I actually first downloaded this game on my TV, and it was really hard to control, but I thought that was just because I don’t have a game controller and it was really hard to do any games with the TV remote. I decided to download it on my mobile device, so I did. The tutorial was very hard to understand and control, but I thought that was just because I was new to the game. So I dealt with it for a little while longer, but then the characters were introduced and it wasn’t getting any easier to control. In fact, it was a lot harder. So, overall, good concept, hard to control, wouldn’t recommend for people who are easily angered especially..Version: 1.6

I want to love it, BUT…The game is pretty brilliant actually, and I do enjoy it, but there are two elements that I find really annoying: 1. The inability to zoom in closer. The lighting is quite odd on several levels and it’s very difficult to see what pieces are even available. I don’t have terrible vision but I feel like my eyes are strained many times trying to see what I’m working with. 2. The inability to rotate the level 360 degrees. Many other games that remind me of this one will allow you the flip the view around however you want, which would make this more fun and less frustrating..Version: 2.0.2

The control is too awkwarkOmg the short press to pick up and long press to drop is so slow and difficult to use..Version: 1.0

Frustrating and disappointingAs a lifelong Lego fan this is a big disappointment. The game is shallow - it lacks the story of a narrative-driven game, and lacks the freedom of a sandbox game. The controls are unintuitive and frustrating. Holding anywhere on the screen places a brick, so if you’re holding a brick in order to move it around, this inevitably leads to incorrect placing. The camera is sluggish, lacking a zoom feature or any useful degree of responsiveness. The game doesn’t even open to a main menu or introduction page, it simply opens directly into the level with no context. Fortunately I downloaded this for free with a trial of the Apple Arcade. I think if I’d bought it instead I’d be kicking myself right now..Version: 2.0

PointlessPuzzles? Really it’s like being given a jigsaw without a picture, an exercise in futility. I’ve played it for 10 mins and I’m done.Version: 1.0

Magic Keyboard functionality not workingI love this game but really wanted to play it with my magic keyboard which is meant to be supported, however, it comes up with a configuration error every time I use it and only allows the use of space and aswd keys, no arrows keys which are meant to be used together with the other controls, making it unusable to play on the keyboard. Super bummed about this and it feels like a few games have similar issues. Hoping this gets fixed in iOS 16. Or developers can look into the issue. Otherwise would give 5 star..Version: 3.0.2

ControlsHorrible controls hold the screen to place and it just rotates Might be a bug, should add option for dedicated buttons.Version: 2.0.2

This is a demo, not a gameBeautiful graphics and fun gameplay, but LEGO Builder’s Journey is incredibly short! I finished the whole thing in about 30 minutes. I thought I had just finished an intro, but no, that’s the whole game..Version: 1.0

I love the idea but...Beautifully done though for me, as soon as the tutorial was finished the difficulty level ramped up considerably and instead of a relaxing game of LEGO it became a stressful exercise in frustration. Needing to move quickly against a very short timer to progress when controlling via a game controller just had me quitting the game. Ok. Update: having moved from Apple TV to mobile the controls are I think worse which just makes that timed play less fun than before. I’m removing it. There’s no fun in frustration..Version: 1.0

Pretty, fiddly trial-and-error ‘puzzle’Not a puzzle game by my definition, there’s no rules and no logic, just guess what you have to put where and get it wrong until you get it right. The most fiddly movement and placement you can imagine, all because of the camera and lighting are purely focused on making it looking good, rather than playing well. It’s so far from the precise, tactile nature of LEGO that it’s surprising the devs settled for it just looking nice, which seems the be the Apple Arcade MO.....Version: 1.0

Looks nice but…The controls are awful. Spend way to long trying to move pieces about and it becomes frustrating to play..Version: 1.6

Interesting game but need improveBasically seems like a very interesting game. But man, seriously consider improve on the way of control things please. The way to control the puzzle to confirm location and the character move is way too hard. I know long press indicate confirm, but it keep fail to confirm because my finger location seems to differ than their desired location and then they just keep failing. After a one simple step I need to confirm and I fail in three times, I come here write this review. I rather there’s a control panel or even just a simple button without a long press just ask me do you want to make it move. I know you want to keep it simple concise, but it’s really not man. Not gonna try until this issue fix. Three stars solely for good idea and pretty image..Version: 2.0

Great game, bug at 94% completeI’ve reached the 94 percent mark and I was very excited to finish the game. Unfortunately, I realize that the next level is unbeatable because of a glitch. The robot character is supposed to appear, and yet there are no characters or other interactive objects in the level level appears immediately after a level in which the father character has to submit a tray of colorful pieces. I’m not sure if anybody else has been able to beat this game but unfortunately I am stuck here. I created a second safe file that got stuck at the exact same spot. Hopefully you have better work..Version: 3.2.0

Good but not playableThe idea is is good , the graph and the legos are amazing! All good , but in the game you have to move the parts. And selecting the place where you want to move is extremely difficult . Unplayable bc of that , ruins everything when you can’t do properly the only way of interaction in the game. They should fix that by making the right path more selectable then the rest of those many possibilities .Or by making an animation (maybe shading) in where you are putting the leg into. Simply impossible to put in the right place when you have so many options..Version: 2.0.2

Worth playingGood game, you have to think in some scenario and that is good. I felt the game was short but worth my time. Great potential but are we like a bunch a beta tester here on Apple Arcade? The iPad has a good gaming future not only with a lot of games, but with more in depth games. I’m still not convinced a Switch would not be better for me....Version: 1.0

Pretty graphics. Terrible Controls.Graphics and concept similar to the far superior Monument Valley Games. Mildly entertaining but controls quickly frustrate. Unlike MV where you can use two fingers to fully rotate 3D views, LBJ uses 1 finger to do an all too limited rotation of the 3D view. Unfortunately that 1 finger “simplicity” is super frustrating because you also use 1 finger to manoeuvre the blocks, with a long press to drop a block. So if you want to get a better view but you have a piece currently in play you have to press and hold and hold and hold to drop that piece before your 1 finger switches to rotate view.... and never enough rotation range. Meanwhile the piece you were looking to place, that you had to drop, has fallen off the playing surface and you have to wait for it to reappear. This game would be 4 starts with decent controls, but it only gets 2 right now, mostly for pretty graphics..Version: 1.0

Great game - needs more levels.Fantastic game but you can finish it in an hour.....Version: 1.0

Good concept, bad savingI started out the game interested. I enjoyed it thoroughly at first, although I felt that it was rather annoying that there were no hints when you got stuck on stuff. I usually ended up getting it after a little while though. The graphics are quite good and you do get a hang of the controls after a little while. It’s an original and entertaining puzzle game, but there was one thing that ruined it for me. I had gotten to maybe the 2nd to 4th area when I turned off my iPad to do something else. When I came back my progress had been reset. I decided to keep playing and got a lot farther on. I was feeling satisfied so I again stopped playing for a few hours. When I opened the app again I was at the beginning of the mud part. I was really annoyed at this point. I decided to delete the app. Although I’d be happy to play it again with an updated saving system, having to repeatedly redo levels is not what I want to have to do..Version: 1.0

Great looking but lackingThe ability to zoom in is so lacking in this game it becomes frustrating My finger tip obscures the place I wish to place my next brick and sometimes picks the wrong brick altogether.. Why can’t we zoom in??!.Version: 1.0.1

Beautiful game undermined by poor controlsBuilders Journey is a beautiful game in every way: the minimalist scenes, thoughtful music, and overall story arc manage to provide a complex world that provides a highly engaging experience. Tragically, the experience is largely overcast by an unreliable and borderline hostile control scheme. Because of this, most levels took on a imbalance of spending a moment figure out what to do and minutes trying to make the controls accomplish what should have been a simple task. With different controls, the game would have been a pure delight. As is, however, it teeters between light-fun and rage-inducing..Version: 1.0

Can’t get past level 2I did the very first level but I have no idea how to get past the level 2 you have a four Lego brick with a flat top thing on top then you get another 4 piece we’re do I put I ? Pls right back xx never mind.Version: 1.5

More please......Great concept beautifully constructed, some nicely complex puzzles, with plenty of visual impact. Unfortunately it’s just too short! By the time you get to grips with this cute game, it’s over. I hope Lego are working on more levels?.Version: 1.0

Poor ControlsI really enjoy the game so far, but the controls are terrible! Click the piece you want to pick up, drag to move it, then click again to rotate, and hold to place- except half the time it’ll either rotate the piece again or drop it or even pick up a new piece? 🤷‍♀️ It never said WHERE to press and hold to place in the tutorial so I don’t know if there’s a special place you have to press but that control just doesn’t work. I think adding a “place” button or making it so the block will automatically fit into the closest spot in the right direction would fix the controls issue and improve the game..Version: 2.0.1

Amazing game but way too shortThe game is fun and the puzzles don’t feel too stale or repetitive from start to finish. Gameplay is fun with a good narrative and storyline. But what feels like the midway point is the end of the game. It’s like someone was planning and building a great game and then one day they just got tired and stopped. This should be ongoing at least with new levels and storylines added every week or so. It really felt like half a game, and that is the only reason I’m rating 3 stars, everything about it is phenomenal otherwise..Version: 2.0.1

Great graphics but I’m not sure whyIs this a game, a puzzle, or a demo? I am very impressed with the graphics but the gameplay isn’t clear and the goals are never mentioned. You can zoom and pan the board you’re playing, but as soon as you take your finger off of the screen, it snaps back to its original position. This make continued gameplay kind of boring and tiresome. I’m at level 3 and I need to do something, but I’m not sure what, and honestly I no longer care. There’re no hints or any incentive to play on to the next level. Again, great graphics, but the urge to return to the game is a resounding “Meh”..Version: 1.0
