Moody Month: Cycle Tracker for Negative User Reviews

Not sureTrialled for a week and loved the notes about how you might feel/look after yourself based on where you are at in your cycle, but a week isn’t long enough to know if I should spend $70. Would love a one month subscription option, or a cheaper option with more limited capability..Version: 3.34.1

Easy to use, but not useful like I’d hoped. The app is very attractive and easy to use. But when you go to look at your log chart, you can view a number of cycles at the same time, but it always displays them consecutively. That’s not helpful. To get an idea of what each phase of my personal cycle looks like, I need to be able to overlap all my cycles and display an average of each variable. In what part of my cycle am I more irritable? In what part of my cycle do I get more headaches? This won’t show me any of that. Instead it gives me generic wellness advice. I feel like my logging efforts have been wasted..Version: 1.14.1

Great concept - stability issuesWhy get any old period tracker, when you can get Moody month - a holistic physical and emotional tracker. It’s great for keeping tabs on the emotional rollercoaster that is lockdown. I love the features but some tabs have load time issues that mean I can’t access them. Also some of daily dose videos freeze about 3/4 way through, which can be a bit frustrating mid-practice. If these things can be resolved, I think it’s well on it’s way to being a 5 star, must-have app..Version: 1.15.3

So far, okayI just downloaded the app a few hours ago and it seems okay. I’m only using whatever comes on the non-membership platform, which seems to be everything but the videos (2 free per month? That’s pretty low considering there’s a daily program…). I found the app from recommendation inside the native health app on my phone. What I’m not clear on is whether this app syncs with apple health? If not it really should… I have years worth of cycle tracking data in the health app and don’t have an interest in entering data to both that app (which is super fast and easy via my watch) and this one. I would expect that if I log a period day on my watch (into apple health) that it would also show up in this app, but I have a feeling that will not be the case. Obviously I haven’t gotten to see how the data visualization comes out yet but I’m hoping I can stick with this long enough to see some meaningful outputs. I’m not seeing any settings for push notifications/reminders - this seems like it would be a basic feature for an app such as this. Overall I really like the concept of this app, it just feels like these basic pieces are missing..Version: 3.10.0

Please add BBT!!!This app is great - way less ‘girly’ than the others out there and has a calmer, more holistic approach and MUCH nicer design. There are a few annoying little buggy bits as others have mentioned, for example adding info to past days is convoluted. I wanted to use this app to help with cycle syncing but also with the family planning method which is not possible as BBT isn’t on here ☹️it would be the simplest add and would mean I can actually use the app to help with contraception. The search for a nice, useable app with all the info I need continues!.Version: 3.5.0

Some Wins, Some LossesI got really hyped for Moody Month because unlike a lot of period trackers, it gave you an option for “not getting a period,” which has always upset me with other apps. However, Moody Month needs some major updates if it is going to actually be as effective as other period trackers. The biggest problem is that Moody Month DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO LOG A PERIOD LONGER THAN 10 DAYS. You cannot log back to back periods to “cheat” and log more days after the 10 day limit. In addition, unlike some period trackers, it doesn’t learn your personal ovulation, PMS, and period timing to give better feedback. It assumes a constant, 28 day cycle..Version: 1.5.2

Don’t like the new premiumI think this app has great functionally but unfortunately I have ended up deleting it as the new premium option has made the layout so much less user friendly and the pop ups just make me not want to use it. It’s unfortunate. The app was good and I like using it but it want such an intrinsic part of my life that I could ignore the changes. I think it’s worth using to get to know your cycle but once you gain the knowledge the annoying premium features mean I not continue using the app..Version: 2.1.1

BEWAREAlthough I have deleted this app from all devices, I still have it on my phone and receive daily messages from Moody. No one has responded from the company to give me advice on how to remove their app completely. Should I be concerned that this is a maleware? My hunch is, yes..Version: 3.62.0

Missing Important things.First of all, I really like how the app is set up and all the things you can log, BUT it just assumes your period is the same every month. So you can’t log if you didn’t start your period that day even if the app says. This literally makes the app unusable if it’s not using important data like being a couple days late which can happen because your period isn’t exact every. single. month. and this can affect when your fertile window is. This is bad if you track your cycle to prevent pregnancy (fertility awareness). If this gets fixed I’ll definitely use this app...but for now it’s useless..Version: 1.5.3

Lacking in many waysI was excited for an app that seemed to track lots of areas of mood triggers, however, there are lots of things that just don’t allow for accurate input with this app. First is the inability to input a period longer than 10 days. Sure, that might not be considered medically normal, but when you’ve had an irregular period since age thirteen that generally lasts for 9-12 days, and frequently even longer than 12 days, it would be nice to have a health tracker allow that kind of input to help you out with those conversations with doctors that have been happening for over 20 years. Next, you can’t log any info for a missed day EXCEPT a period on the calendar. So, you can add it a day or two late, but then how does that really help track the info accurately, might as well just use a paper journal. The last real disappointment for me, and the reason I’ve decided to delete the app altogether is that when my phone was damaged and had to be replaced, ALL of my input data was lost. So, they don’t keep any of it stored at all anywhere, just on the device you’re using? What’s the point? The last backup on my phone happened within hours of needing to be replaced, and a few days after my last log of info into the app. But there is nothing saved at all. 3 months of period input and physical symptom logging, and its kaput. What a waste of time. I should have just been using the calendar on my phone the whole time. Or, like I said, a paper journal..Version: 1.5.3

Pauses music whenever I open itThis is a good app but it pauses ny music every single time I open the app, or switch to it from another app. It's infuriating because I listen to music all the time while on my phone and it's not even playing any sounds, just pausing the music. And no, there's no setting to turn this off. So every time I open the app I have to manually unpause my music..Version: 3.14.2

It was good UNTILI’ve been using moody for a couple months. I like it but it’s difficult to see your patterns. For example, I can’t see clearly what dates I hate headaches. The graph isn’t very useful, if it highlighted it in a calendar format it would work better. ALSO, basically all my logs have been lost because of the update, all the logs I added using a customised list have been lost. It shows I have a log, I click on the date and all it has is the time but not what I logged. And my customised lists are back to the basic list you get when you first download the app Pretty useless now as I wanted the app to try and see a pattern in my moods and symptoms. Gutted..Version: 1.15.0

Cannot reset passwordGot a new phone. Forgot my password. Tried the password reset and I have not gotten a reset email. And I’m not being hasty; it’s been like a week. Even went on my old phone and sent the reset from my logged in app: no reset email in sight. Not in spam, inbox: nowhere. Would love to continue using and tracking with this app, but I’m literally having to come here for a password reset. C‘mon devs. Get it together..Version: 3.34.1

Bring back previous graphs!I agree with another reviewer. This was so much better in the previous version when it wasn’t the little dots on a line, which mean very little. This app was really helping me to understand and compare symptoms of a hormone-related illness until the change, where it’s now almost impossible to do so. The ability to see symptoms between months that this app offered previously really was its USP. It was so good. Now it really does seem like a designer just wanted to make it look a certain way, rather than taking the functionality of this into account (I’m a designer myself). Every time I go back to using it now (I’ve tried a few times), I get irked. Please bring back the old graph version!.Version: 3.23.3

👌🏼I really like the app however would really like to be able to log a mood on any day not just the day you’re using the app! Sometimes I don’t get a chance to log for that day or remember something from the previous day and it would improve the app to actually be able to log these..Version: 1.3.0

Missing Many FeaturesI was very excited to try this app and see how my mood matched up to my cycle. Unfortunately this app assumes everyone has a 28 day cycle. Not me, my cycle can fluctuate from 30 to 50 days depending on when my one lazy ovary decides to work. And it needs to allow for a tracked period for more than 10 days. So many women have irregular periods, and we need an app that allows for that to be tracked. I deleted this app, but hopefully they make improvements soon..Version: 1.5.5

Yoga???I’ve just got the app and it looks great but I’m on day 1 of my period and it’s recommending a yoga headband!? I’m a yoga teacher & this isn’t recommended...some people’s views vary on doing yoga for the first few days of a period so might be worth checking your professional who gives you the yoga info for this app. Certain yoga postures will help but not a headstand on day one 🙏 nor twisting postures (FYI).Version: 1.15.2

Nice but needs workIt’s almost okay. It automatically assumes you ovulate on day 14 & while some women do, a lot do not. You can’t be a women’s health app if you can’t even get that critical amount of info correct. I had it for just a few days & I was already annoyed it ASSUMED I ovulated when I really have not. Maybe improve the app so that you can input your own data if you follow the symptothermal or fertility awareness method of birth control..Version: 1.5.2

Great interface but lacking some key thingsIMPLEMENT THESE THINGS ASAP IF YOU WANT WOMEN TO USE & LOVE YOU. I love the interface and user-friendliness about this app and have struggled to find something better. But I do think there’s some key things women need for this to be an actually useful tool 1. I agree with other reviews that there needs more termonology. I understand you’re trying to make it cute with nicknaming each phase but i think it’s important to ALSO use each official scientific term for each phase. So women can be informed and empowered and knowledgeable about what’s going on in our bodies. I also think more scientific and informative articles would be great. 2. Most importantly; I think there needs to be better reports and a way to easily see what each phase of my cycle has been like and see what symptoms often pop up throughout my cycle. This would help women a ton with being able to know their period and plan for their phases accordingly. Knowledge is power!! Viewing by symptom on the charts is cool but id prefer to be able to easily see an overview of each phase of my cycle, which symptoms often come with that and maybe what I can do to help with it :) These things would be a game changer for me and all other women and help us stick to the same app long term and especially if you’re gonna be charging premium prices for certain features ;) Be a girls girl and take this and actually implement it for women everywhere!.Version: 3.39.0

Inaccurate and harmful informationThe app is built well and has a lot of content; however, it is grossly inaccurate in places. Here are two examples. For menstrual phase, suggested yoga poses are twists and ab work. Midline twisting poses are suitable starting at day 6 in the cycle at the earliest(Rise stage according to the app) and ab work can start with a gentle progression on day 7 or 8 once the bleeding finishes and estrogen has had a chance to rise. A second example is a reoccurring theme I noticed. In the daily check-in there are constant pushes to socialize in the second half of the cycle. Women are the strongest communicators around their ovulation time. Before, they take in inputs and the second half of the cycle is reserved for clearing and reflection. Communication at all times is not only unnecessary but can be counterproductive. I deleted my account and the app and I feel deep grief for thousands of women who are exposed to this garbage posing as wellness..Version: 3.40.2

Good app and room for improvementI used the app for about a week. I did not register for an account, but did I put all my cycle data and did logs once a day at least. The articles were relevant and would have carried on using it, were it not for the fact my data got wiped out from the app one month in. Not sure this is because I did not open an account, but other similar apps do not require an account to keep the app functioning. Might go back to using it, just do not want to have yet another log in, set of daily emails, etc..Version: 1.15.1

Some very good bitsI really like the concept and the story behind how this app came to be. However, the technical elements aren’t all there. It’s taken me 3 days and only after reading a response here to figure out how to edit my period start date. Other apps are so much easier e.g by double tapping. It is not self explanatory hence the 3 stars. Also should my expected period not say expected or colour coded differently? What if I forget to amend those dates? I mean you’ve even calculated how long my cycle would be great but again inaccurate on this occasion..Version: 1.5.1

It’s good when it works! My app has stopped working and hasn’t worked properly for a few days. I clicked late period one day to delay the bleed phase and it’s just stopped working. The home page won’t load properly, I can’t access the calendar, log tidy or do anything really. The yoga videos won’t load either it’s really annoying! I’ve tried logging in and out, deleting the app and reinstalling but nothing seems to work, help!.Version: 1.16.4

Decent app BUTThe major drawback with this app is that your information isn’t stored anywhere. I just got a new iPhone and none of the symptoms I’ve been tracking can be transferred to it. The developers need to allow you to create an account or use iCloud syncing or something. What happens if you lose or damage your phone? Your data just disappears?.Version: 1.5.5

App reset itself, lost all settings and dataStarted using this and logged detailed events everyday for a week. Also spent significant time filling out some back log to see patterns. Today I opened the app and suddenly everything was gone. Like it just reset itself. My cycles and settings just went to default or as if I’m using it for the first time. Didn’t update or do anything to it. Good thing I’m only a week in, but I’ve spent a good deal of time on it. What a waste. Interface is buggy as well, time stamps would be off, UI feels clumsy. I was excited as this seemed to be one of the only apps that didn’t require email address or signing up for an account to use. But if it can’t even retain data properly on a local device.... I did like the graph it would generate for your logs so you can visually see your moods and symptoms in a graphical way. But won’t be using further..Version: 1.15.1

App Name? For such a insightful app, the name really doesn’t sit well with me. Opening up a phone to “Moody” has such negative connotations when we should be moving away from branding a woman’s cycle so negatively. We should be embracing the knowledge we gain from apps like this as they are empowering. “Moody” suggests otherwise..Version: 3.55.0

Needs but of workGreat idea! Been using for a few months. Couple thoughts tho, using high and low scales for all the symptoms and feelings doesn’t make a lot of sense. Like if I put my mood on the low end of the scale rathe than high, does that mean my mood is bad or that it’s not impacting me very much? The World category too: what does it mean to put your « work » scale on the low end versus high end? Better data collection structures would be good. Last and most importantly: this app should have more no binary presentation so it can be more queer friendly. It’s not just cis women that menstruate..Version: 2.5.2

Please go back to line graphsUsed this app a couple of years ago to track peri menopausal symptoms and it was great. I was lucky to have the symptoms stop for a while but they’ve reoccurred and now when I’ve gone back to it, you have these stupid bubbles on the tracker graph. Please go back to a line graph. I can’t see the trends clearly with these silly circles. I’m guessing some designer thought they looked cool and had no thought for functionality. I would up my rating to 5 if you went back to line but right now I’m facing talking to a doctor, begging them to take me seriously whilst showing them a nonsensical bubble picture!.Version: 3.8.0

Needs to be able to log longer periodsThis app seems perfect for what I’d like to track, however you don’t seem to be able to log a period longer than 8 or 9 days; I’m currently on day 21 and would have loved to have tracked this along with my moods and general health symptoms. If this could get implemented soon then I would definitely be interested, otherwise I’ll probably delete and go back to writing in my diary..Version: 1.5.0

Trial is too short to actually see benefitsI would love to be able to write an honest and positive review but the developers don’t really understand that to see if this works for you, you need to use it for a complete cycle. Which is 30 days. Not the 7 offered in the free trial. It just seems like such an obvious thing. I just can’t justify $40 for a year, when I can’t see its benefits yet. I would actually probably pay to try it for a month, maybe under $5; I would rather have that then a useless free week..Version: 3.34.1

Used to love this app!Moody is still one of the best period tracking apps out there, filled with loads of insightful tips and articles, great for tracking everything from your cravings to your emotional ups & downs with accuracy. BUT the new layout is absolutely awful. The in-app pop ups are incredibly annoying, the morning and evening summaries are gone, so the information is more general/less helpful, and it’s just generally more awkward and fiddly to use. Crossing my fingers that improvements are made! Also disappointed that more and more features that used to be available to everybody are being put into a premium subscription category. Not sure I’ll stick with the app if this keeps happening....Version: 2.0.0

DONT WASTE YOUR TIMEThey waste like 20-30 minutes of your life to get the entire app started, so they fool you into thinking it’s free and even give you a “forecast,” and have you rate your mood, and after all that, they ask you for $40 to continue using it. If you can’t pay, or don’t want to, don’t waste your time! It’s not a free app even though they don’t state anywhere that you have to pay for it until you have the whole thing set up.Version: 3.41.0

It used to be 5 StarsPlease can you make a free version which doesn’t look messy and cluttered which keeps trying to sell things? I loved this app, but now it just an advert for itself with cluttered pink boxes everywhere. I can’t get rid of the ads. It’s confusing, so I don’t watch any of the content incase it charges me. I love the concept, the advice and I truly understand that you need to make money, but I’d happily have fewer functions on the free version than be bombarded with ugly pink adverts. Or maybe just watch adverts once or twice a week..Version: 2.4.5

Needs workI had high hopes for this, but unfortunately, it’s not very useful. I’m wondering when they’ll add more content—it seems stagnant. It’s limited in what it can do, and doesn’t make much of an impact. If they had more helpful nutritional and science-based information about regulating / balancing hormones at different points in your cycle (and if the text size were larger), it would make all the difference..Version: 1.6.1

Was perfect til they charged for everythingThis was a wonderful app that helped “normalize” all the emotions and symptoms women suffer throughout their complete cycle. Since they added the costly membership that’s not affordable (especially during these times) you only get two free videos a month. I’d rather have ads attached to videos to be able to get the content I received before rather than only access items that I could already be doing in my Apple phone’s health app. I understand needing funding, but ladies deserve a wonderful app like this intended to be previously without the high membership fees!.Version: 2.1.1

Good idea, needs workThis app is a great idea, but lacks some execution. I can’t really track my period on here and if I have an irregular one, the app’s daily forecasts are off. Today for instance it told me I’m on the fifth day of my bleed cycle, and I haven’t even started it yet. There is a way to change the dates in the app, but I find it too inconvenient to bother. A little more ease of use would be great. Also I found that the forecasts would tell me I should be bursting with energy at a time when I’m feeling wiped out, so I wasn’t finding the app’s articles to be very useful. I know every body is different so I’m not judging too harshly on that point..Version: 1.6.1

Cycle days/ length not updatingMy days length has always been set to 5 days but for some reason it keeps setting future period predictions to 4 days and won’t change even when I update the settings so I have to manually amend each month..Version: 3.9.1

Doesn’t use correct termsI’m struggling to find a cycle tracker that uses the correct terminology for cycle phases and doesn’t stigmatize the process. While this app is helpful, I’m pretty disappointed in some of the verbiage. Calling it ‘Moody’ was a red flag right off the bat, but I’m giving it a chance. I like the daily forecast, and the ability to synchronize the moon phase. I would love to see this on a wheel as many other period apps have, as opposed to a calendar. A wheel allows one to see their entire cycle and each phase as it begins and ends. It prioritizes viewing the *cycle* as a complete process as opposed to the month. I was very disappointed to see the four cycle phases renamed as ‘Bleed’, ‘Rise’, ‘Shift’, and ‘Reflect’. The correct terms are Menstrual, Follicular, Ovulatory, and Luteal… which most women don’t know. Periods have been historically stigmatized, which has robbed us of knowledge of our cycle, and how each phase affects our minds, bodies, and emotions. Why contribute to this stigma by renaming the cycle phases? I’m currently using five different apps, and have explored countless others, searching for one that doesn’t use gimmicky terms. While this app provides a wealth of information, the presentation and lack of correct terminology is disappointing. I’m going to continue using this through my cycle and will update this review if my opinion changes through daily use..Version: 2.5.2

Great for Women but not pregnancy friendlyI enjoyed using this app for my monthly cycle and hormone needs. I enjoy the workouts, articles to read, and plans with videos. I’ve discovered that this app is not pregnancy friendly, which would have convinced me to keep paying for it. It also wasn’t as accurate at calculating ovulation for me..Version: 3.35.0
