MTG Scanner - Dragon Shield for Negative User Reviews

From great to Money HogThe original version was great. It was a bit expensive to buy each set but I could manage it since it was fair for the services. Now with the new version... I have to spend 53.99 a year just to maintain it. ( 10,000 cards ) It’s no longer worth the price. I will migrate my collection somewhere else instead. I’m sorry but if you bring back your older pricing, then I would be back. As of now, I will keep the old version until it’s no longer supported. You have lost a loyal customer and one that pushes your app to other players too..Version: 1.0.6

Not an improvement over previous appSo before dragon shield took over, you would need to purchase the database to add the latest set, usually for a couple buck. Not a big deal when only 4-5 sets come out a year. Now with their subscription model? Totally a cash grab. Not sure why it didn’t properly track my previous inventory as well...it transferred over all my cards but doesn’t give me any space? I originally had about 7000 available inventory slots and now I can’t add new cards because I am “over” my free 100 card limit. Dragon Shield - you are being way too greedy with your pricing model for what this app is designed to do, and especially because there are so many other reviews complaining about your scanner quality. I would gladly pay $3-4 per set like it originally was, but if you think people are gonna blindly sign up for subscriptions with features listed as not even available yet? Set some better expectations for what this app is and does, and price it accordingly. Love your other products and sleeve, but this is completely off the mark..Version: 2.1.3

It’s not quite there yetIn the last app, when searching for a card, you were able to see the different printings and different art for each card, but now it only shows one artwork. You’re able to see the prices of the different printings, but not what each printing looks like without going to an external site. So I’ll keep using the other app for now..Version: 1.0.3

Not worth migrating to yetLook, you don’t get to “deprecate” a functioning app with a half complete new release. This app doesn’t have basic functionality like sorting by price. This is literally the only significant feature needed, and yet its missing. It’s in the old version - why should I bother upgrading? Or do you mean to hold my collection hostage? “Coming soon” is a waste of an answer. You should not release until you have feature parity at a minimum. I’ll be looking into other solutions - getting a strong feeling this developer cares more about nickel and diming us for subscription fees instead of bringing value to our lives. Pretty sad to see since I enjoyed the older app..Version: 1.0.3

Wrong passwordCreate account > log in > wrong password > change password > log in > wrong password > change password AGAIN > log in > wrong password.Version: 3.5

Some cards can’t be scannedI scanned 2 cards what pops up lands.Version: 3.7.2

Sorting doesn’t workMine doesn’t sort by anything other than the default alphabetical order so its very hard to find thr valuable cards in the collection. Also would be extremely useful to be able to set the default “bought for” amount vs going off of current market value. When I buy boosters i have to manually edit each purchased for price to $0.33 or whatever..Version: 3.7

NighThe whole scan a card and get info is great when it gives u the right card.Version: 3.6

Needs some work - so far, wonderfulI haven’t used the original, but I needed to keep a deck list of my commander. This was super fast and easy to make my list and I found it very user friendly. There are some bugs that need some working out, but by judging on how recent this release is and being a second app, I’ll give it time and change my review later when it is fixed up!.Version: 1.0.3

Not a great app for the detail-oriented[edit: developer responded that the technology is limited to scanning the art only, so I’ve increased my rating by one star. But I guess, then, why can’t that be expanded to scan the rest of the card, to detect variants and promo stamps? Regardless, the issue of displaying mismatched thumbnail/variant name pairings needs to be addressed. And maybe the default should be regular versions of cards.] The scanner works extremely fast at pulling up the card you’re pointing it at… but it’s terrible at selecting the correct version. With Wizards printing regular, borderless, extended art, alternate art, alternate frame, and promo versions of every card nowadays, any card scanner needs to be able to detect these subtleties in order to pull up the right version of a card. Sadly, this app is unable to do this with much accuracy. It also often displays mismatched card thumbnails and card version names when scanning. And changing to a different version from what it mistakenly auto selects is cumbersome (as are many many other features in this app). Needs some work..Version: 3.6

Good collection app; some bugsOne of the better/faster collection apps. Doesn't capture sagas. Sometimes bugs out and captures everything as the same couple lands. But works like 90% of the time and the bug is easy to work around with the type feature. Would appreciate a feature where if I add cards to deck lists that I can simultaneously add to my inventory..Version: 3.5

Free before. Subscription now. Does the job.Got the app a long time ago before it was bought out by its current owners. Previously the App would let you purchase quantities of card slots so you could permanently own a certain amount of card space for your collection. However, since then they have stolen those previous purchases away from me and now only offer a subscription for stuff I already owned and payed for. If you want some kind of collection manager where you can trust the developer this is not the one. Complete scam. I want my money back. Update: have tried multiple times to get fixed by contacting developer. Still not fixed and when I try replying to any emails they do send me they don’t respond back. Update: Support managed to get me my previously purchased collection slots added to my account for me after several emails back and forth. Changed my rating from 1 to 3. Will have to wait and see how the new app feels before I decide if it deserves more..Version: 2.0.2

Over 30 hours wasted…I got into this app and loved it, the UI is great the reader is fast and the logging deck building and price management is all great. With all of this in mind I recommended this app to one of my friends with a massive collection. He gave me cards in the past to fill out my decks so I decided to do him a favor and log his cards for him. Little did I know when I logged out of my account all of my data from my account was deleted, all of the 1,000s of cards I scanned from my collection… and the best part is I did t know until I scanned in his over 22,000 cards. Over 30 hours of my life wasted lol… imagine my surprise when I went back to my account by logging out of his and onto mine on my phone to see an empty inventory, panicked I went back to his, all gone… everything.Version: 3.5

Why did you ruin a perfectly functional app?I downloaded this app a while back, and I’ve got to be honest - the functionality of this app is an absolute shambles. The old app worked seamlessly. You could type in half a card name, and without problem the app would update the search parameters, predicting which card I was looking for, saving time especially when I’m mid-game and I have to check the rules about a card. This was my most used app for ANYTHING magic related, whether I wanted to check different artwork, rules text, prices. It was fast, it was easy, and it was reliable. This replacement app is none of those things. The first thing I noticed was the updated look of the app. I thought “wow, this could be good.” As it looked tidy, clean and pretty cool, with nice formatting, But then I went to search for a card. I started typing in the card, but nothing happened. No predictive searching. So I typed in the whole card name, and a ton of card names came up, none related to the actual card I was searching for, so I had to scroll down for the card I wanted anyway. Like, why should bother typing in the card name if I have to scroll through hundreds of cards just to find the one that I wanted? Why did you change the functionality of the search engine? It was perfect! So I deleted and downloaded again just to check it wasn’t bugged. It wasn’t bugged. It’s just terrible programming. Next, I saw you got rid of the filters on the search engine? Why? It was a key tool for me to search for cards I can’t remember name of but could remember the details like the CMC or the set it came from. This makes no sense. Not only is it crap, but it also freezes very often. I’ve gone from using it all the time to never. Honestly, I still just use the old app if I’m looking for a card pre-Ikoria. Post Ikoria I just google it now. I’ve given up with how often it freezes. I can also here say the same while deck building on the app. The core problem with the app is the search engine freezing up, or not searching accurately. You can’t build a deck quickly with this happening every time I search a card. I’ve just given up on this app and gone back to Tapped Out. You had a fantastic app, and you’ve ruined it by butchering this one. Fix this issue and you’ve got a seriously useful app. But right now, you’ve got nothing..Version: 1.0.5

Terrible updateTerrible update where the devs replaced the back button with “tips” rendering the whole app unusable.Version: 3.7.4

Newer isn’t always betterThe new app just doesn’t work. But now the old app isn’t getting updates to prices. I’m not angry just really disappointed.Version: 1.0.8

Tier prices are madHighest is £240.00 a year!! The others don’t really give you value for money, especially as most of the features you pay for don’t even exist yet - all marked as “soon” Pity as seems like a good idea, but over monetisation will kill your user base..Version: 1.0.8

Recognition rate ~80%When it works it’s quick. When it doesn’t, every card is a savannah. Special art, saga and split card recognition is bad. In general quite useful..Version: 3.7.2

Seems good so far butWhy cant you tell me what my decks are worth? at this point im just gunna keep creating new folders and use those for my deck building… at least make it so i can transfer my decks to the collection but no i now have to scan twice… at this point the deck building list is pointless unless your looking for stats but even then….Version: 3.6

It’s good, but could be much betterI understand these people have to make money, but for me this would be such an amazing app if there was unlimited card storage. Sadly it only lets you have 100 cards without paying, I loved how it would tell me the prices of everything, but none of that really mattered if I could store 1/30 of my collection. Hopefully they make it unlimited, still very good for prices and price history though..Version: 2.1.3

Value tracker is bugged and don’t workPlus developers don’t reply even tho having spent money on the app to support them. Don’t buy..Version: 1.0.8

Has all the features you could want, but has a serious bugIt scans so fast it’s delightful, but when I scan a card, all cards scanned thereafter only show the first card scanned. For instance, I just scanned Dictate of Heliod; it showed the correct card and data, but then when I scanned Launch the Fleet it only brought up the information for Dictate of Heliod, and again for Deicide. I have to restart the app after every scan if I want to scan another card. Highly frustrating. The app would be able to scan faster than I could switch cards if it weren’t for this bug. Fix this one issue and definitely a 5/5 app. Great scanner in principle, but 2/5 for now..Version: 3.7.7

Cannot get pasted updates phaseI boot it up and it tells me DL some updates, which never budge.Version: 1.0.6

BugsWon’t log in after creating an account. Doesn’t recognize new cards from M21..Version: 1.0.8

Good but deck building needs a little loveThis is a great app for people that have large and actively updated collections. Data base is comprehensive and scanning is fast and accurate. The price tracking is also great, no complaints there. My only issue with the app is that I find the deck building to be a bit lacking. My biggest want is importing decks from other platforms but another feature that would be great is having decks show which cards I am lacking in my collection when I make a deck. I have a lot of cards but I still need to pick up the odd card now and again so it would be nice to know when I need something for a deck I am planning. One last minor thing, I also noticed the data base doesn’t recognize the stranger things secret lair by the stranger things names (Mike, Will, etc.). While it’s easy enough to just search the magic equivalents, it would be nice to have the card name in the app match the words on the card..Version: 3.7.3

Promising but lacks basic functionalityScanner is a good base for inventory management, but for an app with a considerable monthly subscription, there are some basic functions that are strangely absent. For instance, the ability to sort my inventory by current value or rarity - there is a “current value” option but it doesn’t sort correctly. For example, when I sort using “current value” and descending, my complete inventory currently reads 82, 46, 50, 12, 28, 35. The app appears to be more fixated on the change in a card’s value than on its actual value. It also lacks the functionality to decide what information is included when outputting inventories as a spreadsheet. I do need rarity and current selling price on my spreadsheet, but I don’t need the set ID *and* set name. Also the camera could use some work when it comes to recognizing the set icon - I had to manually adjust most of the cards I scanned. Having scanned 9000 cards, I now regret that I didn’t realize such basic information was not tracked by this app in advance, and definitely resent that I’m stuck paying a subscription while waiting to sell my collection. I cannot recommend investing any time or money into storing your own data into this app while it’s in such a broken state..Version: 2.2.2

Just make the trading scanner freeI strongly advise not getting this app as you can’t do any thing on it without spending money on more card slots. They let you put in 100 cards and that is it, which is barely a deck, let alone a collection. Also, on the old app, you could scan cards to trade but now you need some sort of “ premium, to do that. The people that make this, please just remove the in app buying because it’s just a wast of money..Version: 1.0.3

Not that intuitiveIt has taken me some time to get used to this app. I don’t find it that intuitive to use. It took some time for me to figure out how to scan and add a card for example. It wasn’t clear that I’d need to add a folder first. I like to keep track of all my cards including tokens and lands. Weirdly in the deck creator I can only put a maximum of 4 lands. I do find the app expensive and feel there should be a reduction in price as a lot of features are still absent. I look forward to seeing things get better..Version: 2.1.4

Could Be So Much MoreThe whole profit system is confusing. What if we don’t remember how much we paid for cards? There is just way too many variables in the mix, why can’t we just have an app where we add our cards and into the inventory and just use it as a database and market price catalog? Also, show the cards current value in the inventory lists page, why show what I paid for it? Most of my cards I do not know what I paid for them so showing me that info doesn’t help me. Just a bunch of $0.00 values all the way down. Ex. if I group by none, and the sort by current value in my library, why does it show the price I added when I added the cards when scanning? Why can’t it display the current value of the card in the market? I didn’t add prices that I paid for these cards.Version: 3.7.1

Unsure about this AppI’ve just downloaded this app as been recommended by friend, at this moment I’m unsure if I like it cos all the currencies is in ‘dollars’ ($) and I’ve tried to find settings to change it to GBR Pounds (£). But nothing is allowing me to change it. 🤔 No star to rate just yet..Version: 3.0.2

Not ReadyThis app is okay at best at the moment. I scanned my Gandalf the Grey (Legendary Creature - Avatar Wizard, R0322) and it keeps pulling up land cards such as Savannah and Plains. They don’t even have the same color scheme, number or anything. There is literally no similarities between the card I’m scanning and the incorrect ones pulled up, outside of being a MTG card. I understand technical errors but if you’re gonna have a “Premium” offer (which I take no part), you should most definitely have kinks like this worked out. You’re better than this Dragon Shield. MAKE YOUR APP AS FLAWLESS AS YOUR BEST SLEEVES!!.Version: 3.7.7

DissappointingIn the old app I paid for 4 care collections to find out in the new version these collections I paid for are free..Version: 1.0.4

Pluses and grand canyon minusesYes you can track your cards prices, just like every other ap like this. You can scan the card, Theoretically, I never got it to work. But the big minus in this is that let’s say you enter the card into the inventory area and then you want to say I have a deck of these cards you have to re-enter them you cannot simply move them or select them and say make this into a deck. Or if you have the card in inventory and you want to move it into the trade option you cannot simply select it and say trade and it goes into the trade menu you have to re-enter it into the trade menu. It seems to me it should be fairly easy to be able to move the cards around within the app however they do not provide that simple service and because of it it is a major drag..Version: 3.6.3

BugsWhen I started using this app it was great. I only had a few issues such as some cards not scanning, and no classes or sagas scanning but other then that it was fine. Then when I logged into my account on my iPad compared to my iPhone everything broke. On my iPhone I had a +30% but on my iPad I have a -20% the market value completely changed for all of my inventory. Developers any help?.Version: 3.6.3

Visual scanning becoming significantly worseThis app used to crush other scanning apps, especially the very picky and battery consuming TCGPlayer app. But since the acquisition by Dragon Shield, the app has become notably worse over time image scanning cards. Sure, WOTC has been absolutely dumping new cards and art onto the market at warp speed, but if you’re going to acquire a startup app for its visual scanning capabilities, you might want to continue investing money in that technology, especially when it (used to) generally destroys TCGPlayer’s own app on accuracy and battery consumption? Don’t even get me started on the unusable web app manager, that’s so bad it’s not even a feature worth discussing. Get it together Dragon Shield, you’re better than this..Version: 3.7.7
