The Body Coach Workout Planner for Negative User Reviews

Great content, app needs workThe content on this app is fantastic, but you need to “live in the app” to keep on track. No reminders, no notifications, no ability to track whether you’re on track for the day / week / month. Could do with some extra features to match the meals and workouts which are 5 star.Version: 1.63

Slow appSuch a shame this app runs so slowly as there is some great content. The more workouts and recipes you gain the slower the app goes and there are technical issues with the videos, when you turn phone landscape the video crashes and goes back to the beginning of the workout, quite frustrating.Version: 1.35

Not freeThere’s a trial period but it’s definitely a pay to use app. It advertised as free but you can’t get pass the sign up screen if you don’t sign up for a paid subscription..Version: 1.15

Decent but could be a lot betterDecent app, but a few upgrades could make this so much better and easier to use. The planner is great, but there’s no option to copy days or weeks - I tend to have a 2 week cycle that I repeat so being able to copy this would be ideal and save so much time. It would be great to have a weekly shopping list where all the ingredients you’ll need for the meals you’ve selected are collated, rather than having to go through each days meals to remember what you need. This for me would be a game changer. I also like the idea of being able to type in your own meals where there’s any your not using from the app but broadly know it’s on plan. The other big fix would be to adjust the servings so you know how much your scaling up, for example when batch cooking it would make it loads easier than having to work it out manually. To make it a truly integrated fitness app being able to link it with things like apple health, Fitbit or smart scales would be great, but not a deal breaker. I do like how you can link up all the videos to smart TVs, how the recipes stay on screen when you’re cooking rather than timing out and the general navigation. As it stands and if there were no changes I’d probably use it for the year I got on offer then cancel my subscription..Version: 1.5

Needs more for the priceI love Joe and did many of his free workouts during lockdown. I was surprised the workouts don’t progress each week but only each “cycle” of four weeks. I’d love for them to progress every week to keep motivation going rather than each four week cycle. Also, with the recipes - I’m cooking for my family but the recipes are only one serve. It would be helpful to have the option to change the number of servings, as you can with other fitness apps available here. Also please make an option to filter the recipes based on meal type - dinner, lunch, breakfast, snack. It’s a good start but I expected a bit more for the price considering Joe has such amazing content available for free on YouTube..Version: 1.10

Loved it but then..Started using it when it launched and back when Joe used to do the live workouts. Those were a huge motivator - it felt like a community was getting up early in the morning to do something together and ready to smash goals! Then in Feb - an ab challenge which was great. Then a slight burnout hit me, partly because I found HIIT 5x a week and the whole eating schedule hard to incorporate/shop for when I have to write down groceries list from a to z every week. I can see how the programme is effective - but it's not designed to account for women's needs, amongst other things. Training on HIIT all the time, 5x per week every week is exhausting, and there's significant research out there that indicates it's just not effective for women when you take into account their monthly hormonal changes. So worth having a think about adapting the programme. The app itself could use some UX improvements throughout. Too many taps before choosing a workout and/or a recipe can be the difference between someone sticking to the programme and someone dropping off. Less cognitive effort..Version: 1.18

Good appThe workout content library and live sessions are really good. The food planning is clunky and needs fine tuning. There’s no search function when doing the planning (but there is for browsing) and the search doesn’t work properly anyway (I was told to uninstall and reinstall which I’ve not done yet because I’ve heard people have access problems after that). I’d also prefer an option for an auto pick so that a weekly menu is provided. The workouts are great as you can expect from Body Coach. I wish it did better tracking from day to day as the calendar is only for the week and other than badges there is no other way to know how many you have done. Visually the app looks good but it’s still pretty clunky otherwise which is disappointing given the cost. The create your own meal is kind of pointless given its not interactive and you can’t even add CYo as an option in the weekly plan anyway. (Even as a generic I will do my own thing). The ability to export the shopping list is great option though. I’m not sure on whether the books and a piece of paper is far less hassle than dealing with the clunkiness of the app for meal planning. I wanted to love the app as so many people have been so positive about their improvements, but sorry it’s a meh 😑 for me..Version: 1.31

Great programme, poor app functionalityThis system works, if you trust it and follow it (and ignore all the people on the FB group stressing about counting calories). I feel great, am getting leaner, fitter and stronger. HOWEVER, the app itself has a couple of real flaws. First, it doesn’t actually keep a record of when you worked out and which workouts you did. I’ve used free apps where you can look back and see your workout record- none of that here, so instead I end up writing it in my diary. Second, the ‘Create your own’ tool for meals is useful as it gives so much more flexibility than following the given recipes (and is perfect if you have to account for any food intolerances) but isn’t at all interactive, it’s just a list of ingredients to choose from. So guess what, I end up writing meals on a piece of paper rather than using the planner in the app. Joe Wicks and the Body Coach company obviously have lots of different stuff going on. I don’t believe either of these (really fundamental) issues with the app are that difficult in terms of programming, and hope that they address them soon rather than expending all their efforts on the next book or the next big thing. Making these changes would, I’m sure, keep more subscribers for longer..Version: 1.56
