Pokémon TCG Live for Positive User Reviews

So close to 5 stars…Hey devs, I love the game. Here are a couple things that would make me call this the GOAT: - When opening packs the screen should be dominated by the card that was recently opened. It should take up the whole screen or at the least a majority of it. Aiding reading and looking at the marvelous graphics and making the hype of getting a new card that much more rewarding. - The transition between horizontal and vertical modes is broken. If I start a game horizontally then switch to vertical then the game seems zoomed in and cut off at a quadrant. Almost like the switching between modes isn’t changing the resolution and is just filling up the viewport with what it can. - Have a more clearly labeled button called “View Collection”. Right now it’s a bit unintuitive how we do that. Unintuitive but not impossible. - In general I’d asked for the graphics and text to be bigger in general across the board. I don’t care about the mat underneath or if there is not empty middle part. I want to be able to see the cards clearly and select them without issue. - On iPhone especially in horizontal mode it’s incredibly hard to select and play a card because it triggers the switch application functionality built into the OS. Maybe making the cards bigger and taller would effectively make this go away? Hope y’all are listening and actively trying to make this better. I love this card game..Version: 1.3.12

Awesome! Just wish it was easier to earn in-game currency.I love this game so much, ever since I found out it existed I've played it every single day. It's entertaining, the animations are great, the cards look really cool. But with each individual match taking around 25 minutes to complete, the rewards and experience gained are so small. Same with the rewards for leveling up, which could take hundreds of games to do. I really want my deck to look good but to buy different versions of cards I need to play multiple days on end just for the price of one new card. One thing I think would really help is if we were able to sell unwanted cards for in game currency. There's no direct tie in with in-game cards to real money, so this seems like it should be easier..Version: 1.8.1

I Love this game but…I love this game because it is very flexible and it is NOT a pay to win game. There is variety which is something that is needed in every Pokémon game. I have always loved and adored Pokémon. I watched all the shows, movies, and bought so many Pokémon cards! I feel like this is a solid game and that every one should give it a chance. My one suggestion for this game is that they should create a mode where it doesn’t take much time. I would love if they added a 10 minute game mode. Everyone I go against uses so much time! I have nothing against that but I think it will be a good idea for competitive people and people who don’t want to play with a 25 minute timer. Once again I love this game and thank you pokemon!.Version: 1.9.1

I love this game!!I absolutely love playing this game… the mechanics are great, the gameplay is great and I am thrilled with this game. It can’t get much better… the only thing I would add, is to have the individual Pokémon noises happen when you put a card down and maybe some small animation with each move used… however this may take away the “card game” vibe… I don’t know. Just a suggestion!… but I love this game how it is! Thankyou for the this amazing game.Version: 1.9.2

Stupidly AwesomeWhen I got an email saying that Tcgo was going offline and a new version was released and was put into mobile, I immediately downloaded it. And my expectations were completely blown out of the water. First they allowed to migrate my tcgo account along with my collection. I had no hiccups with the process at all. Then I was greeted by a free battle pass. Don’t mind if I do, the rewards are absolutely worth it, unlike other games the battle pass is actually rewarding. Then I discovered you could craft cards with credits. Holy crap that was incredibly well done! Finally, no clunky internet problems! This is a fantastic beta. Just a couple suggestions: first bring back trading, second if you can craft cards than you should recycle them manually, thirdly be able to fight npcs like in tcgo. Other than that I have no problems with this beta, if you have tcgo and haven’t migrated yet, do it already it’s incredibly worth it..Version: 1.3.2

These reviews are wildStarted playing this with a friend about a month ago. I had never played the pokemon tcg, and wanted to learn how to play. So far, I’m very satisfied with this app. People in these reviews keep mentioning bugs and glitches, but in the 100 games I’ve played I’ve only encountered one. The holographic cards look amazing (even better than irl), and the animations are great. My only gripe is that too much time is given to players to make certain decisions. For example: why are players allotted 30 seconds to choose their prize cards? These 30 seconds are a waste of time, especially considering that the prize cards they select are random. Might as well automatically give the player their prize cards. There is no real choice to be made. Seriously though, thats such a minor issue. Don’t let the low star-rating stop you from trying this app out. 👍.Version: 1.9.1

Mild Improvements over PTCGOBear in mind this is technically still in beta but it’s gotten a lot better since it launched. You can open all your Expanded Decks just fine in it now after you migrate everything and there are quite a lot of improvements made over PTCGO especially in terms of the economy obtaining cards. It’s been significantly streamlined and works way better. The trading feature from PTCGO is gone entirely and in its place you can just buy the cards you want straight up with the in game currencies. No more days of scrolling through pages and pages of ridiculous trade requests trying to find a reasonable offer for that one card you need. Battling is almost the exact same as it was on PTCGO. There’s more dragging things than just clicking on them now but that’s about the only difference that isn’t a graphical change. It’s great that this works natively on iPhone as well now as well..Version: 1.5.0

Game makes the tcg not funSo many bugs all the time that makes some decks unplayable. Furthermore, crafting system makes it harder for new players to craft good decks, furthermore, if you decide you want to play another tier 1 deck that you don’t have the cards too you can’t trade your cards that you no longer want, you need to spend new credits, finally it is unplayable on phone because it will burn your hand and the ui isn’t that great. Please fix this game..Version: 1.7.0

Not bad for a BETAI’ve played a plethora of TCG’s over the years and decided to try the Pokémon tcg for the first time. And I honestly have to say I’m having fun with it. There are some kinks to be ironed out, but for a start it’s not too bad for a BETA launch. • PRO: Learning the game was really smooth and would recommend for beginners who are interested, but may lack the means to or don’t want to yet spend money on physical cards. • PRO: NO MICRO-TRANSACTIONS. I hope this stays consistent throughout the games finished release, but on that same token making acquiring in-game currency a bit easier to allow people to buy packs and craft cards to upgrade/build their decks. • PRO: The UI is comforting to look at for a mobile game both in/out of matches. Though a tablet mode format would be nice to have, the portrait mode isn’t too bad. • PRO: Getting rewarded for both ranked and casual play takes the pressure off when playing online, keeping the game feeling like well…a game. Playing other games where losing in ranked can be quite punishing makes me want to step back from it a bit. • CON: Occasional Freezes and Crashes, but it is in beta so that’s to be expected. • CON: As stated before it is rather difficult to grind in-game currency to get new cards for decks and I hope this is worked on..Version: 1.3.2

Nostalgia HitThe reviews on here are harsh. I only started playing in December, after try the previous ‘online’ version a few times. Visually this is a big step up. Really like the card game, it’s a blast of nostalgia, having played the original physical card game as a kid. It is a pleasant surprise to see such a big brand app with no micro-transactions. What they really need to work on however is how hot this makes my phone (iPhone 13) and how quickly it drains the battery. I would really like to see an iPad version too..Version: 1.3.12

Amazing for new playersAlthough yes there are some bugs, this game is clearly still in beta. But this game shines at appealing to new players with strong decks and a healthy exchange system. Look forward to the future of this app!.Version: 1.3.0

AMAZINGI am a Pokémon fanatic from collecting packs at card shops to scanning codes and to be completely honest this app is amazing whatever the nay sayers At say it’s on point I miss playing on my pc it’s okay now I literally can take it anywhere I go and battle when I want and that is the best part I never have a issue with the service and if I do it’s my phone service not the apps. I enjoy having to earn the purple shards to be able to get card packs and bundles so you have to play to win and get better it’s not one of those pay to win. It’s super easy for new people to learn due to the steps it give you and the community when battling is great never have any negative interactions with the community thank you pokemon for making a solid built game Sincerely your global pokemon trainer #gottocatchthemall.Version: 1.6.0

Beginner friendlyI think this is an amazing place to start if you’re looking to get into the Pokémon TCG. It doesn’t drain my phone for one, if anything it feels I’d it takes less battery than like Pokemon go or Marvel snap (personal examples) and the game is rewarding by just playing. You can’t spend your money in the app (that I’m aware of at least) so you have to do your quests and earn the pass. The pass being the battle pass system every game has now ofc but this one at least always gives you one free deck to play with. It is pretty easy to understand because the format is so simple, they didn’t add a bunch of unnecessary stuff. So yea personally I’d say five stars, also if you don’t want friends, play a Wugtrio mil deck. Pokémon is amazing, catch ‘em all folks.Version: 1.9.1

Still in BETAThis game is still in beta, so we need to keep that in mind going into this. I don’t know why people are leaving bad reviews on something they’ll most likely fix anyway. This game is running really well for me. I’ve enjoyed every game I’ve played so far. Rewards get claimed smoothly. The game breaking for other people and getting errors might just be a them problem, like their phone, network, or something (not trying to be rude). This is the first day for global release as of writing this. There’s bound to be bugs anyway, every game has those. But for a game in beta, for me it’s working really well and to me it’s really fun. So when you’re trying this out for the first time, try to keep an open mind. You may encounter bugs, you may not. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.Version: 1.3.0

Great gameI honestly think this game is amazing. Lots of nostalgia looking at all the old Pokémon and I love that it’s fair to play as there is nowhere to buy cards with real cash. People moaning about the mechanics imo are just looking for issues. I’ve rated it 4 star not 5 as the sound effects don’t always work (for me anyway), and I also can’t seem to play since the latest update. I don’t want to miss out on my battle pass so hopefully this issue/bug will be resolved soon. Do you think there could be a deck released of the original art Pokémon 1st generation? If there isn’t already, that would be a great edition to have.Version: 1.5.0

CHANGES NEEDEDI enjoy the game a lot and I’m happy they finally have a playable version for iPhone. The core game is fun but there’s a lot of missing features. The battle pass takes a long time to level up and the rewards aren’t nearly as good as the old online system was. There’s only 2 daily challenges also with minimal rewards. More packs in the battle pass and more challenges to complete are necessary. Players don’t receive nearly enough currency to purchase packs or deals unless you save up for weeks of playing everyday. There’s no way to purchase packs without this special currency and no way to continually earn the currency either. There’s not enough ways to earn new cards and the game gets stale playing the same thing every time. The ranking system is really underwhelming, the reward increase very minimally as you progress, the tiers don’t have a big affect if any at all on your rewards, and I’m usually matched with someone over/under 2-300 points from me. There’s no contests or tournaments or special challenges to compete in. There’s also no “unlimited” deck battles just standard and expanded. I like the game but I will get bored and stop playing in a week..Version: 1.5.0

Fun way to play Pokémon TCGHaving only recently started getting into Pokémon TCG, I thought this would be a good way to learn the game. I have quickly become addicted. The ranked mode is fun to see extra progression and I love being able to scan the card from physical packs to get extra Pokémon. It can be a little buggy at time and needs a force close, but usually runs smoothly after reopening..Version: 1.8.0

I like what you’re going for, but it needs some workClicking between cards is a little bit clunky, in a match, you have to click on a separate drop down window under the card to view detailed stats, and it doesn’t list the initial retreat cost of said card.. for that you have to just look at the actual card image on the screen, which is already small.. I would get rid of the drop down window and make the text that is on the card in active or in bench smaller so that you would be able to list all of the stats as well as initial retreat cost on the close-up image instead of having to click on a drop-down window ;) also in my opinion, the tutorials don’t really give the best examples of the newer tactics to Pokémon TCG or maybe I just read something wrong lol.. and one more thing, if it is possible try to enable the game to have a landscape mode so that players can easier see their hands in game without having to scroll ;) that’s it, everything else is great to me!! awesome app.Version: 1.3.0

I love it!I have played around a thousand matches this year, and had a whole entire ton of fun [around two pounds per match]. I started playing the TCG at leagues around ten years ago, and don’t go nearly as often now. I don’t know how many matches I played before this year, but I’m guessing it doesn’t come close to a thousand. The Pokémon Trading Card Game is a great game, and the current rotation has so many delightful and interesting cards. Art is great. I’ve always loved deck building so the speed at which I can modify the decks in this game is wonderful. I love being able to play the TCG so easily when in transit or anywhere else that it’s not convenient to set up a table. I enjoy the new credits system. I think the game looks excellent but is definitely slow/choppy at times [likely technology limitation, and I wouldn’t know to what level that can be optimized] and last few sets crashes at game start maybe 1/13 games; crashes sometimes when deck building and building past 60 cards (both crashes happen obviously more often than I’d like). It is possible the crashing issues were fixed in today’s update, I do not know. I can ignore the crashing when giving the game five stars, because I’m having about two pounds of fun every single match..Version: 1.9.2

Good but battery/loss of data refresh is baaaadAs others have said, battery is probably the biggest issue here. There is no reason it should drain it that quickly (and I’m on a 14 pro Max) Suggestions for better battery performance - Toggle on/off for animations - Resolution Adjustment option Also, if I switch from Wi-Fi to LTE or if I’m out of the app for more than about 10 seconds, I may as well restart the whole app as it never recovers. Please enable - Session control server-side - ability to rejoin (even if it comes with a “turn” penalty) after 10 seconds (like CoD) Gameplay wise, really really solid BUT, as others have noted progress is definitely a grind, not a thrill or challenge. However, my biggest gripe comes in 2 forms 1. No ability to copy decks of friends made in the app 2. No search function fo find friends or history of players battled 3. No option for real-money in-app purchases Love playing again but these roadblocks are keeping it from being a truly perfect game.Version: 1.6.1

4 Stars For PotentialOverall: This game has a wild amount of potential. Very excited to be able to play Pokémon TCG on my mobile. Positives: game is currently entirely free to play. The game gives you a decent selection of starter decks (10?), so you have lots of exploring to do. Generally speaking the interface is fairly intuitive. Art is great. Good visual information design. Negatives: random crashes (assuming this will be resolved over time). There is no play history, so if you look away and then look back you will miss everything that your opp did. The game will not remain active in the background, so if you switch apps you generally need to restart the PTCGLive app, which means no switching apps during a game. Tapping on a card to take a closer look at it could be improved (it’s currently clunky during certain actions, and it will omit certain card information, like attacks, if you can’t perform that action)..Version: 1.3.2

An amazing game but…This game is a great trading card game sequel and I love logging in to all Pokémon games like this, but in my opinion I this the tgco version was better. This has a lot of good graphics and I like how this game was designed. When I carried over my data not all of my decks showed up and all of my best cards were gone (except some of them). Some new accounts that just started wouldn’t know how it feels. Instead of the classic 10 cards that you get in booster packs, why do you only get six? It doesn’t feel right. Overall I really like that you get premade decks and I like the Palkia VSTAR the best. I like the new format for the deck, discard pile, the Lost zone and the prize cards. When I play in real life it feels a bit neater. Overall this was a great game but maybe get to upgrading a bit so I can have a better experience with it. Thank you!.Version: 1.6.0

Why did you bring back the giratina deck....Pokemon tcg is amazing. It really is. But the fact they released the giratina deck again is just garbage. Every game you face the giratina deck which is a hard counter to all the other beginner decks. Making it impossible to rank up unless you want to spend $100s on irl cards, then use card codes to get more ingame pokemon. Take out the giratina deck. Im fine with buying packs. But this giratina deck is stupid. Way over powered and its ALL you see in ranked. Giratina vs giratina. And when you do face something else, they forfeit by turn 3-4 cause the deck is just insane. Gonna go back to raikou deck and just pray i dont have to join the wagon and go back to giratina. I wanna rank up but i dont wanna be one of the people who takes advantage of a broken deck. Its like aim bot, its just not fun cause its easy and theres no thought process put into it. Just rinse and repeat.Version: 1.6.0

Needs work, but a good startFirst, the graphics. Guys, it’s 2022, nothing should look fuzzy! As far as the UI, the home screens are fine, but we definitely need a place to view our collection outside of the deck editor. As for in battle, I HATE scrolling through the Pokémon’s abilities and attacks. I greatly prefer the way PTCGO displayed cards. If you implemented how PTCGO showed cards to this new app, it be much better! Obviously, the app is still very glitchy. The Battle pass often doesn’t open. It’s also really annoying to see the banned cards notification every time I open the app. This app has made this a collectible card game rather than a trading card game. Change the name or bring back trading. If you do decide to make it a collectible card game, give us the ability to “sell” cards (reverse exchange). App takes a long time to load and uses an insane amount of battery. I can only get through 3-5 matches before my battery dies on my iPhone 12 Pro. This is mission critical to improve. But overall, this app makes Pokémon much more accessible and I love being able to play. Good job giving some powerful cards from the start to help new players be competitive (or at least start them on the path to be so)..Version: 1.3.0

Most reviews are pretty accuratePokémon TCG live is okay so far, it’s very buggy still and I’m disappointed that most of my cards from before sword and shield didn’t transfer because most of them where important to my decks and now I have to make new ones. Speaking of making decks, it’s incredibly hard to make them unless you know exactly what your looking for, it’s incredibly hard to see what the cards say but that’s mostly because the screen size. Playing the game itself is pretty traditional to the original Pokémon TCG online other than the screen being small and having to read every card, and everything looks cramped and it makes it overwhelming. But it’s a fun game for any Pokémon TCG fan to just play a quick card game for cheap, and the game is still beta so I hope they continue to update it to completion..Version: 1.3.2

Functionally fun; needs polish! (hopefully coming in 1.0?)Runs surprisingly well on my iPhone 6. Despite network & player-count issues, I am having an absolute blast!! No issues with portrait orientation - and im on a dang iphone 6! My feedback primarily regards the GUI. A lot of this is presumably coming in 1.0 - i need to be able to mute player emotes. - if i click to activate my ability, i dont want to be asked if i really want to use it… thats why i clicked it! Lastly, just feels very lifeless for Pokémon; every screen just feels bland. Nothing is visually exciting when interacting with menus. Cheers! Love playing it!.Version: 1.1.20

NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE SAYSI was going to play this game months ago and was put of because of bad reviews complaining about glitches and it not being flawless… after getting some pokemon cards and wanting to redeem them i downloaded the game. This game is amazing i learnt how to play the card game through this game and the glitches people complain about are no more than just sly reviews from people whos standards are to high and critcizing unfairly. The games starts you off with multiple sets of free decks and has a battle pass system where you can unlock more packs and cards etc. also the game is 100% free to play , 100% skill based with an added flair of luck in the hands you are drawn, every game you play will be unique and it is very fun collecting all the different rare pokemon! I reccomend anyone to play this game and not to look at the negative reviews before you make a decision. Thanks pokemon for the good game!.Version: 1.9.2

There are a few issues, but it’s still a great game.I have only played the game for a few days, but it is great already. There are various starter decks for new TCG players (not me) and bad deck builders (me) to tweak and learn from. There are still a few problems to be fixed, however. There are inconvenient crashes from time to time, though they are not common enough to ruin the game. Sometimes, you cannot interact with Pokémon to check their moves or stats. And finally, the glitch that only happened to me once, but made me lose a game: after searching my deck for an item using the effect of a supporter card, I was not able to choose the item I wanted. It was in the deck, but I was not able to interact with it. Despite these problems, I definitely recommend this game. It is still in beta, so it is bound to have some inconsistencies. The worst of them will most likely be fixed soon..Version: 1.6.1

Not the best, not the worstBeen itching for a new iOS Pokémon card game ever since I got back into ptcgo during 2020 and this is a pretty decent card game on iOS, however shifting from ptcgo is somewhat difficult for a few reasons, one major one being the UI works against you sometimes. Wanna see the retreat cost when you don’t have energy on the card? Nope you gotta press the info button after pressing on it. Wanna tap to select a card to play for an ability? Nope you gotta swipe it into place. Lotta weird things that a basic game like this should already have down. Now for some things I actually like: absolutely love the master dual like start where you actually have stuff to use on things, you get a free battle pass right off the bat. Love that they’re bringing back the “micro transactions” of the old game where you really couldn’t get a decent collection or trade without getting real world Pokémon cards or if you where crafty: buying codes off of a website. Probably should mention trading, there is none, not yet at least but I don’t know if they are adding it at all but it really is going to make it difficult to get good cards without putting them up on a trading market. Overall, going to love playing Pokémon on my phone, and Pokémon, please get some good updates, also maybe make the characters not horrifying. Otherwise keep up the good work..Version: 1.3.0

I love this gameMy favourite part of Pokémon is probably opening packs and this game has a lot of free to play packs and enables you to play against other people using decks to u can build yourself. Only bad thing in my opinion is people leaving matches before they’re over.Version: 1.7.0

Dont listen to the hatersMost people criticizing this game not taking into consideration that it was released as a mobile BETA. Which usually entails a smaller selection and is generally just a soft opening for the game at large. For those who are upset about having to start from scratch, that is generally the point of most games, if everyone was able to bring in their decks after years of collecting it wouldnt be fair for players that are just starting. I understand that most of pokemon allows for you to continue your journey with the same team, but given the ranking system and the fact that its still beta it makes more sense not to overwhelm new players with a bunch of assets. One person was mad they cant bring in their old cards and felt slighted in that their old collection now feels meaningless, but you still have the physical cards which is the actual point… right? I like that this game isnt really pay to play and there are opportunities to build really interesting decks with just the starter decks and opening some boosters. As a new tcg player i can confirm its kind of annoying running into someone run some nuianced 2019 strategy with all their old cards that you cant really get in game without grinding or purchasing old boosters. But its just as fun taking them out with my Clefairy deck… With that said this game rocks, stop complaining and get to playing..Version: 1.3.1
