TransformativeThis app has a way of taking shame out of the emotions you are feeling and helping you get practical ways to recognise what’s going on and be intentional about acting differently. I thought I knew a lot in this space but turns out there are so many handy tips I wasn’t aware of. Make your punches count!I often am reminded I still fall short. And yelling is a downfall of mine. However this app is tremendously helpful at giving my daily tools-spend 5-15 minutes a day in organized classes and levels-take quizzes it’s all off your phone and type in what you did wrong while the app generates helping you pinpoint practical tools to apply next go around. I really really love this app. I’m way more aware of what my response ought to be and I’m noticing it before it’s to late. My turn around times are much quicker now too. Great way to make CBT part of your daily lifeBrilliant app. I have had CBT with a therapist before and think this app is a great way to reinforce CBT techniques and understand your emotions day-to-day. I’ve been using the check in function each time I get anxious or frustrated. It’s really helped me understand my triggers and reactions. Would love it if I could somehow pay per check in as I don’t think I can justify the ongoing cost for too long..Version: 1.43.1

SO GRATEFUL THIS EXISTS!!!I’m diagnosed bipolar and today our couples therapist told me to work on regulating my emotions this week by identifying triggers and saying out loud when I’m disregulated. Really like it, but…I really am liking this app! But I’d really advise against the whole sassy Duolingo vibe. For an app that’s supposed to help people with anxiety, anger issues, depression, etc., I don’t think making people feel triggered or bad is the way to go. But most of the app isn’t like that, neither is most of the social media. Just sometimes, I see an ad pop up online or notifications from the app with that sassiness and it just makes me want to avoid it.. Not because I don’t like sassiness, because I do in many situations, but again, maybe not in something that is supposed to help us with mental health struggles. 😅 Otherwise, the app is great!.Version: 1.43.1

Impressed so farI found the app after seeing an ad on instagram and I was curious considering I love the gamification of duolinguo. I love how it breaks ideas we assume that we already know and helps me to set up goals that feel manageable. One critique - some text that is too long doesn’t allow for scrolling, preview, or expansion, so I have to sometimes guess the second half a sentence..Version: 1.42.2

This is really helping.I was initially sceptical about how effective this app could be with regards to actually affecting change. However, after a couple of days of engaging with it and giving the time to the initial set up, I am already feeling the benefits and can see how this may well be a very effective tool in helping me achieve my aims of understanding and managing my anger emotions. It effectively facilitates you to become your own counsellor with incredibly helpful tools to assist in reflection on your behaviour. It provides bite sized advice on how to learn about your patterns, recognise triggers and manage your response to events that might normally be challenging. Ignore the bad reviews!One of the best apps I have ever used and well worth the money. This app makes me feel empowered and comforted knowing that I am not alone, and have the ability to change my behaviour and improve myself. Please ignore the bad reviews commenting on the price, lack of free features, or inability to override the “time for a break” feature after 10-15 mins of use. The people leaving the negative, angry reviews are (in my opinion) the ones who should be seriously considering keeping and paying for the app as there’s really nothing about it worth getting angry or negative about!!! Easily digestible and applicableI was surprised that only after 5 days of using the app I was recognizing early signs of anger more easily, and applying the tools I learned to manage escalation and outbursts. You can also only do so many lessons in one day, so it helps with time management on the app. Reasons I didn’t give it 5 stars: I think it’s pricey for my budget (I am poor). I wish you could free type more in the section where you review moments of daily anger and notice what happens - sometimes the options aren’t what I experienced and aside from the description of what happened I can’t make notes..Version: 1.42.2

A Step Ahead of Other Apps!I just started using a free trial of this app, but noticed a glitch where I would end up with a blank screen at the end of lesson where a recap should have been. I really wanted to get the most out of this app, but I was worried that the bug was going to keep that from happening. I reached out to support to notify them of the bug and see if it was something that could fix before my trial ended. I’m not gonna lie, I was VERY surprised that I received a response—and it didn’t seem like some automated reply, either! They addressed the bug and noted that it would be fixed in the next update. Their customer support alone made me comfortably invest in Ahead over other behavior modification or mindfulness apps. I’m still exploring all of the resources Ahead has to offer, but so far it has helped me work through a very stressful and angsty few weeks!.Version: 1.16.0

Some bugs, great nonethelessYes, there are some bugs. Sometimes, as I have come to learn, there are things that I cannot control in life. I am confident that the developer is working on the bugs. One of the reasons I like this application, is that through its use, I not only have come to recognize my anger moments, as well as when my friends and counterparts also are in their anger moments. I don’t comment on this to them, as that is not my place to do so. I become quiet and reflect that my buddy needs some time to calm down. I am not here to fix him. I’ve come across some bugs and while my initial reaction is to respond with an annoying stance I find myself laughing at myself, it’s almost as if it was planned by the developer as another way to recognize my anger and blaming others. Incredible for brain and emotions awarenessAlthough the app isn’t as user friendly Duolingo yet, it is like having a CBT or DBT coach at your fingertips. I have been using it almost every day since getting it. A note for the developers: When I interact with the app, it’s not clear what is required in order to keep a daily streak going. I have been using the app every day for over a week, yet it only shows a 4-day streak. Another issue I imagine you’re working on is the words on the screen aren’t often completely visible. They aren’t always centered. Paragraph’s sometimes are positioned at the bottom of the screen. Certain single sentences in list form aren’t completely visible, so it is a challenge to know which choice to make since I don’t know the context. Aside from those technical issues, bravo a hundred times over for creating such a meaningful app..Version: 1.44.1

Lovely concept, but ignores a key elementI love the concept of this app, I find it useful for some parts of how I’m feeling. However, there seems to be a glaring omission here. Sadness. So many of my anxiety triggers stem from sadness and grief. Yet, when I look through all the feelings/triggers, none of them are related to that. Is sad-mad really not a concept in anger and anxiety management? Most of the time when I am angry, if I really look back and reflect, I can point to a moment that my sadness and grief overtook everything, where I realized there was nothing I could do about the sadness/grief and it spiraled into anxiety and mild anger. As I’m using the app, it’s causing me more and more frustration because I can’t drill down on any of the choices to get to that feeling. It will be really hard to convince myself to pay $80 all at once for an app that’s only useful *maybe* 50% of the time..Version: 1.42.0

LifesaverI downloaded this app as a cry for help cause of my busy schedule with a growing backlog of stress and anxiety. I’m almost a week in and I can definitely say that whenever I take a 5 mins break with this app in times of stress/panic or when I sense it coming, it really takes me out of this mental environment of distress and gives me clarity that things are fine and I’m normal. This app is life-changingHonestly, the reflection tool on this app has truly been life-changing for me. It has helped my kids work through anxieties and big emotions. It has helped me better understand the people closest to me and how I can better relate to them and understand their feelings. There are some distracting elements on the app that take away from the benefits. Helped me before the free trial endedI had an episode where I was really anxious about returning to work from maternity leave, so I went on the app and was able to address the issue and Ahead provided some techniques to help me navigate that uncertainty, and it really helped me. The same with an episode where I got angry—as I’m the type to dwell on things. I can’t help it, I’ve always been that way. Ahead allowed me to reflect on the incident and see it in a different light, and truly provided the guidance needed for me to weather that mental storm in a healthy way. Pretty cute little app to help teach good behaviorI found this app very helpful, I’m working on being less reactive and changing my communication style/identifying my feelings all at once so I thought this would help bc someone not being able to name a feeling leads to frustration and anger. I love the cited quotes and works presented here and the helpful tips being kept in the toolkit. There’s a ton of room to improve though. A simple thing like push notifications that state your calm-down habits would be one. Second quiz me on my toolkit items or even what I just learned in a section or chapter helps to reinforce the learned information, especially for me-types who are very “if I can’t see it it does not exist” to change a behavior I have to practice it but to change it I need to remember it! Also I’d love to see easier ways to plug in “reaction moments” I know it’s there but it’s too many clicks to find and enter how I responded to a specific moment. Small, but dislike how the progress button changes when you’ve filled in a blank and want to move to the next screen. I’ve really enjoyed the sweet ui and characters..Version: 1.32.1

Actually working for meI have trouble committing and sticking with things for a long period of time. I’ve downloaded tons of CBT/DBT/planning/organizing/self-help apps - the only thing I’ve ever been consistent with is DuoLingo (almost 2 years!), and so when I saw this advertised as “the Duolingo of emotions”, I was very interested and downloaded right away. It really does hit those same “accomplishment” activators and I actually plan on investing in this one once the free trial ends. The topics are useful, positive, and super interesting/engaging. There are tips and techniques I’ve never heard of and I also love the informal tone of the lessons and personality assessments. Like daily therapyI started using this App to help me control my anger. I noticed it helping almost immediately. After all the anger lessons, I find myself using the techniques to keep my cool all the time. Occasionally I still get angry but I recover quickly and have learned to apologize and repair my relationships quicker too. I’m now doing anxiety and while I needed it less, am still finding it very helpful. Considering how much therapy costs, this is a great bargain for anyone who needs emotional help. It feels like things are well researched and backed with evidence. Only one questionable resource came up, citing Healthlines, an SEO-fueled health information aggregator site. The UI is mostly very user friendly and fun. It keeps things fresh enough each day. The gamification portion is confusing because the streaks seem to show a day behind. Plus there is no indication of what moves the streak forward—a check-in, or lesson, or reflection, or anything? I’ve gotten a few “you’re about to lose your streak” emails in the day I’ve already completed an activity in the app..Version: 1.43.1

Anxiety SaverI have never written a review for an app before but this app inspired me too! It is so incredibly good for managing anxiety and panic, and other negative emotions. So often it’s hard to pull out techniques when you are in a heightened state of anxiety but the app makes it easy. It also prompts you to reflect, and being able to see that others experience the same emotions is so validating! Couldn’t recommend it enough..Version: 1.43.1

Best compared to other appsThis app is the best one I’ve used so far for learning emotional regulation. The other apps I’ve tried were the Better Me app and Headspace which I found gave me a little lecture, has breathing walk throughs, and then some nice sound scapes. This app provides all you need to do some real work with your emotions. It has prompts, a space to write and keep your thoughts organized, exercises like a tool kit to explore coping strategies, and lists all the academic sources used. If you want to be productive with managing your emotions, I highly recommend this app over the others mentioned..Version: 1.43.1

I’ve no idea if it works as well for everyone who tries but if you’re on a journey of self understanding or considering therapy but don’t have the resources I would say definitely give this a try. Great but limited, offer more free activities pleaseeWhen I first used this it was great. The articles they offered and the activities were insightful and helped me realize a few things that i need to work on myself without making me feel bad about myself. It also let me do reflections on any event and what I can work on. But I feel that the reflections part needs a place that I can add any notes to the event or things that were successful for me. I also feel that the app does a great job in recognizing in areas that i need to develop but it doesnt give me clear way on how to do it without having to pay money. The app helps in recognizing what you need to develop, but the app gives general areas of improvement that seem too general to be useful. They show case other activities but you cant look at them without paying the money for activities or other features (which is understandable). In general once you finish the three(?) free activities, you need to pay for more. The only thing left that you can really do it document events that made you angry and it gives a general list of things to do for future anger..Version: 1.25.0

Ahead is great!I started using ahead because I’d noticed I spent too much time being angry and overreacting to very minor things. I appreciate you so much for making a digestible AND engaging self-help app. 💚 I’ve downloaded and deleted a lot of apps like this but you all clearly did your research on both the content and how to effectively present it. I genuinely look forward to my little 3 min milestones. 🥹 The setup: There’s multiple Learning Journeys to choose from (Anger, Procrastination, Positivity, etc.). You complete them through micro-sessions that range between 1-5 mins each (which they call milestones). I don’t think you can do more than 2 milestones a day. Effectiveness: I’m not even halfway done with one of my journeys and already catch myself acting and thinking differently (better). There’s all kinds of aesthetics and interactions built in to help you absorb the information. Commitment level: If you’re worried about getting distracted or stepping away while using it: It seems like they’ve specifically designed it with that in mind because (a) it feels like a quick cute game (b) the process still works even if you don’t use it on a set schedule..Version: 1.44.1

Really good app, but I wish it was cheaperApp wise, it’s 5 stars. In the 7 day trial I’ve learnt so much about myself; my brain, triggers, methods to self regulate and calm myself and also how to deal with future emotions. I’m neurodivergent and my emotions and how I respond to others or situations are sometimes hard for me, or others, to understand. This app does help a lot with emotional intelligence. My only issue is the cost. I’m aware they need to make money and pay staff, but as someone on a low income, I wish the yearly or monthly subscription were cheaper so it more widely accessible to everyone regardless of their income..Version: 1.42.2

Worth the priceSo I downloaded this with low expectations, and got the five day free trial. I forgot about cancelling…and got SO MAD when I realized it automatically charged me the annual rate because I forgot to cancel. Realizing this is an app for anger management, I just did a couple of the exercises, and felt better right then and there. Well, it works. Figured I paid for it so I might as well use it. It’s been about 3 weeks now and it’s been super helpful. I’m also working on overcoming being a chronic procrastinator, and this app has been giving me practical strategies to form new (non procrastination) habits. It’s like therapy, you get out of it what you put into it. So it’s not a “quick fix,” but if you’re really committed to becoming a better version of yourself, you’ll put the strategies that work for you into practice and likely see great results over time. Great app, not free though.I just started, and finding it difficult to focus, so in a way the app is already helping me identify how far my procrastinating has developed. I like the way the information is broken down into bite-sized pieces and really helps to discover and identify personal procrastination tendencies. I wish it was a free app, I’m still on the free 7-day trial. There’s a small glitch in the app on the first level, maybe on other levels too. The information and quiz about trusting your brain to rewire itself keeps repeating (about 6-7 times), I don’t know if it is supposed to be that way to annoy people and push them to procrastinating behaviour, or if it’s a bug. Aside from that, it’s a good app, should be free or at least a 1-time payment, or an option structured more like Duolingo. I might consider a 1-time payment to have “pro” features, but not a monthly payment. This is because I have too many subscriptions to apps or digital services and it is upsetting how everything is like that now. It’s like spending what you can’t see, one barely notices how much actually comes out of the budget like this, except when it comes time to pay for groceries and there’s no money left. It’s goodThe app is a good base to build off if you’re looking to improve your mental state and understand where some unwanted emotions come from. I recommend it if you need an affordable way to digest moments that have happened or understand what is getting at you, if you want to improve. Leaving 4 stars however because the app has a number of technical issues which actually put me off a bit and make it difficult/frustrating to use at times. For example the whole duolingo style streak thing and ‘rewards’ is really janky and doesn’t make a lot of sense for this kind of self improvement app, in my opinion. If these technical issues get solved and maybe a bit more originality put into its feedback concepts, easily 5 stars and would recommend to everyone..Version: 1.43.1

Best app for rewiring an angry brain!I came across this app while scrolling Instagram. I’m an organizational psychologist, so it definitely peaked my curiosity. I’ve worked in executive leadership for over 20 years, teaching, coaching and facilitating leadership development for executives around the world. This is one of the best apps I’ve come across to help understand, manage and rewire an angry brain. It’s science-based, fun to use, completely personalized, and it helps you with the only thing that helps change behavior, which is daily habitual practice. Game changerThis app has been a game changer for me. I use it for anxiety. At the end of each mini-module is says something like “Congrats you just re-wired your brain!” During the first several days I thought “sure whatever”. But shortly after I gradually started to feel it working as I incorporated some of the strategies into my real-life stressful situations. Everyone responds differently to different tools - this one just happens to work for me. One suggestion I have to make it even better: after I completed all the modules I wanted to start over and go through all of them again. But by then they were all checked off as completed so there’s no way to “bookmark” my progress the 2nd time around. This would be a big help as repetition is key for me. Beautiful StartI just started using this last night am am enjoying the mini lesson formats. I like that I am taught and asked follow up questions. I also like that the app asks personal questions then gives options for strategies, not just one size fits all strategies for the thing you’re working on. I like that you can share a short quiz with your friends who can help the app learn more about you-anonymously. I like the Duolingo -esq interface. Great app but cost prohibitive for manyI like the app thus far but I think the pricing makes it prohibitive for many people. I wish more mental health companies/apps would take note of Balance Meditations dealing with this. They let users have full access for 1 year during the pandemic and now their annual cost is also more reasonable than other meditation apps. To help the most people, the cost needs to be accessible. Many of those struggling most are struggling financially and having to pay this much for an app doesn’t seem very helpful. Even the option to pay less would be better. I can afford it and dont mind paying full price (even a higher price if it means there’s an affordable option for others) but what I don’t like is a standard prohibitive cost. Balance has a lifelong customer after their behavior. Would love to see Ahead act in the same light.Version: 1.43.1

Best Wellness App So FarI have been trying mental health apps for the last few months and have not been able to find one that keeps me engaged, so I honestly had given up. Great app, few glitchesI did the 7 day trial. The app has great content that is scientifically proven and studied. I really enjoyed the content and felt it was helpful to me and relevant. Definitely worth a trial if you need guided sessions to manage your emotions. It will get to know you based on your answers to questions and then tailor sessions to target your problem areas. Then it will give you techniques to work on that. I wasn’t convinced to pay $59/yr. The reason is because I’m not sure the app has content for me to commit to 1 yr subscription. The app glitches sometimes and can be frustrating to manage. There’s also a few typos but those can be easily overlooked. I didn’t like that when I canceled it sent me a notification that I’d regret it lol, the shaming of cancelling isn’t necessary. It’s marketed so that you somewhat rely on the app. I get it, but I don’t appreciate preying on people’s emotions, being that this is an emotion coach app! Anyway, if they ever do a month to month plan I may try again, but a year is questionable..Version: 1.42.0
